While the population of New Orleans is roughly 60% Black, the juvenile *arrest rate* fluctuates *between 99%-100% Black* annually here (!!) and, *almost always*, the children that are prosecuted as adults in our city's court system are Black. With these facts in mind, I feel that it is truly a Godsend that Derrick Tabb and Allison Reinhardt saw fit to found The Roots of Music in 2007 to replace the robust Middle School/ Jr. High marching band programs that formerly existed in New Orleans, prior to Katrina. It is, without question, a top priority to keep our city's students *safe and productively engaged* both after school and during the summer months. If you have some $$ to throw their way, an old instrument and/or any unused school supplies collecting dust in a closet, or even some time to donate to assist in helping a young person to experience academic success (or all of the above!), this is most certainly a worthy organization to give of whatever you are able to offer. ❤

I didn't really "go there", they are my Amazon Smile fundraising recipient!
I believe and support this organization because it's a great organization that helps school kids succeed in school, music and all round discipline! The Roots of Music is an organization that truly makes a difference in young people's lives and is pretty reward for all the adults, too! I love it when the get together to rehearse for big national parades and for Mardi Gras because we residents get an impromptu glimpse at their progress.
