I absolutely LOVE this place. Lots of expert here to help you. Great for any beginner sinking their teeth into photography. Unlike other chain stores and Amazon, this place is a fantastic resource for the professional when they need something, they can see, touch, that won't break after the first use! The selection is constantly updating to the latest gear, and even through the pandemic, you can STILL hold a camera and take a few test shots. Again, I love this place and I hope it's here to stay for years to come!

Is one thing to search the web, read reviews and view a camera which interests you on line. Quite another to put it in your hands, feel it, see if it fits while having a professional explain ins and outs. I'm a professional photographer and have been going here for years. I have purchased both new and used equipment from the store, and lots of it. I have also purchased many accessories from here as well. They have always been polite, courteous, and helpful. Whenever a odd odd or technical question, they have always attempted to answer it or find someone who might know. In the few cases they didn't have what I needed, they were up front that I'm better off just shopping at a well-known online camera Superstore instead for that item. I appreciated the honesty. I've been here many times and will continue to shop here. They've always been helpful, whether it's been on a large purchase or a small purchase, new or used equipment. They also have a photo lab one block over which does excellent work, and they also have a rental department which has some great gear to rent. Also, if you rent the gear and then decide you like it and want to buy it (within the week I think), then the cost of the rental is applied to your purchase. Overall, it's the best camera store in Portland bar none and they have saved my rear multiple times.

A photographe's candy store. I used to love coming here. Though much of the product is now available online and often cheaper elsewhere it’s good to get a good feel for the gear. So, Pro Photo have supplemented with excellent customer service to secure in-house sales? Ha. Right. Many of the staff are about as helpful as a mannequin in a thrift store. To be fair, all the staff know their stuff. It's just that many are unapproachable and seem more interested in clocking out than being present. Jen and Jim are pretty much the exception. I seek them out if I need anything and get excellent customer service and end up preferring to purchase from them rather than buy online.

Never had a bad experience at this fine establishment. The staff obviously knows their stuff, are always friendly, and patient as I've watched them interact with absolute beginners many times. The selection is great, and even the used section is well stocked. I have gone out of my way to spend my dollars here many times, despite maybe slightly better prices online. I'm very thankful a place like this exists where I live.

Good selection of new gear, and pretty knowledgeable staff. The service here can be pretty hit and miss especially when they are busy, and their selection of used gear has really gone down over the years. They have lots of on-site events and an amazing selection of gear that you can rent for pretty reasonable prices. It's locally owned and the owners are good people, which is a huge plus. They have the best selection of lighting and bags on hand in Oregon.

Helpful, knowledgeable staff. Good inventory of new & used cameras & lenses. I have purchased two "prosumer" D SLR's and a few accessories here. The staff are always patient while answering questions or dealing with concerns. Usually carry a good inventory of ink for my printer as well. Recommended to you, the amateur or pro photographer. Update: they seem to have selectively moved away from some accessories and brands, then reorganized the store to more effectively display their inventory. Another plus for me is being able to find a local supplier for Moab print paper for my inkjet printer.

Rob Williamson at Pro Photo Supply was hands down one of the best salesman of any products I've ever met. I had a ton of questions, which he answered and never made me feel stupid for asking. He got out every demo model I asked for, took notes for me, looked up pricing and specs I asked for, and even brought me a drink of water. Truly outstanding customer service. As far as the actual store, they had a huge selection and price match, no reason to shop anywhere else. I would rather buy local than online, especially with expensive photography equipment!

Great service. Traded my canon in for a Sony here and bought some Zeiss lenses. Excellent customer oriented policies for return and exchange. Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is I went there for a camera bag, but was $160 there but only $120 on amazon. I like supporting the local shop, but not when they are that far off as a percentage.

One of the last camera stores in the area that actually has knowledgeable staff and used inventory. Many shops in the area will sell an okay selection and be able to read off the specs, but this place has everything you could want and then some. The sales people are willing to help, and you can find just about anything you need here. The used selection is also incredible, offering steep discounts if you don't mind an older model.

Hands down the best photo rental crew in the game! I have been renting from Pro Photo on a very regular basis (almost every weekend) for around 2 years now. I have never had an issue with any gear and in my experience all of the employees have been extremely approachable and genuinely interested in helping me out. I am a concert photographer so from time to time I will get asked to work the day of events. Unfortunately, that was the case this past weekend.. I was called at noon, on Friday before the eclipse to shoot a concert on Saturday. I immediately called Pro Photo knowing my chances of reserving the gear in need was slim. Tim picked up my call and started looking gear up for me. I knew that most of there inventory was already rented out (because of the eclipse) but I had a few lenses I didn't feel confident working without. After talking a bit more with Tim I ended up reserving most of the gear I wanted, as well as 2 lenses I hadn't even considered before. The photos of the event turned out better than imagined, I was happy, and my client was happy. Win, win, win!! Honestly not sure where my career would be without this company and the wonderful people they employ. I see you all on a weekly basis but I just wanted to give a HUGE shout out to the whole rental department. You guys (and girls) are the best!!

Not to mention very well stocked and fairly reasonably priced both new and used equipment. I was visiting from Extreme south Texas and needed a bracket for my Manfrotto tripod and they had it.

Great local photo joint for all my camera, printing and gear needs. The also have a rental selection which is a really good deal. Can rent a lens for the daily price on Thursday for the WHOLE weekend. That's a crazy deal. Picked up a second hand lens here too for a decent price. They also have regular talks with photographers which are fun to attend and learn at.

The staff their were so great they let me take both lens outside to test them out, which was wonderful. Update pandemic days: They’ve upped their game and usually make an effort to help everyone in the store now. I see employees actually go to customers and I’ve had several pleasant visits since. I’m upping this review two stars and if they become poopoo heads again I’ll takem away again so there! Really challenging to shop here, it’s not like any stores you’re used to. Only a couple of employees are helpful and those folks will make your experience perfect and you’ll leave smiling. On the other hand the other employees may well be working for someone else, because I can’t get one to help me. I’m writing this review in the parking lot, after yet another trip where I tried and failed to get an employee to help me spend money. Off to B&H it is! Thing is I actually *drove* here you’d assume they might help me. Only shop here if you absolutely have to have the item. One trip will be great (I had one in June!) then the next one will leave you feeling pointless and empty handed. Dunno what’s the deal!

Walked into the store for a trade in after discussing it over the phone. There was some initial confusion about who had given me a quote, but to their credit, they actually paid me more than they estimated over the phone. The rest of the transaction went extremely smooth. The salesperson knew what they were talking about, and were more interested in making sure the customer knew what they wanted instead of pushing them towards expensive equipment. Will definitely be back if I need to get something else

Last week, my purchase experience at Pro Photo Supply began with mediocrity with the first store sales person, but then we were turned over to another sales person, Simon, who was incredible. I had such a great experience today! I had called in 2 days ago about my broken Canon 6D. After listening to what was wrong, she said they don't do repairs but would help me ship it to Canon and would look at it plus reset it just to see if that works. When I explained I wanted to rent just to be covered for my wedding that Saturday she transferred me to their rental department and they were awesome too. Today I brought it in (went to the print location accidentally and he nicely directed me to the correct location) and she took her time checking out my camera. After reseting it - it worked!!! It was an intermittent issue though, so she used it with different lenses etc. and gave it time to act up again but it never did. She showed me how to reset it, gave me instructions if it happens again to provide proof to Canon and answered other questions I had! Gear and technology can frustrate me so much, so I really appreciate their help and patience.

I recently got a great deal on a camera there - a Canon T6 Rebel bundle, which comes with two lenses and a carry case - and surprisingly, I paid less than what the big box stores were charging for the same thing. What's more, they threw in a free 32GB SD card, a coupon for a free hour of instruction for how to use my camera, and a coupon for $25 in free prints. Last but not least, if you check their website, you'll see they carry an impressive collection of quality used equipment at excellent prices, all in good condition. This will be my go to place for photography equipment and supplies from now on.

I usually don't write reviews but I was pretty disappointed with this place.I'm fairly new to photography and I went in to find my first DSLR. I had been looking at two cameras, the D3200 and the D5200. I wanted to find out if the difference in price was really worth it, plus I wanted to get my hands on the camera and see how it felt. Well after standing at the counter for a while a guy walked up and asked if I needed anything. He was really soft-spoken and hard to hear in the busy store, but I told him I wanted to look at those cameras. He walked off and grabbed two of them for me and set them down on the counter. As I was picking them up I asked him which one he would recommend for a beginner and he gave me the info but wasn't really helpful about it, he just seemed super bored that I was there. Then when I said I would have to think about it he sort of rolled his eyes and took the cameras back. I'm assuming this is because they work on commission? Who knows.. It wasn't a bad experience but I was hoping to get to talk to someone who was enthusiastic about photography. The rest of the store is nice, they have a pretty big selection. I got to drool over some Leica cameras which was fun. Anyway, long story short; good selection, decent prices, average/sub-par service.

When the repair looked to be taking abnormally longer than usual, she hooked me up with a rental pro bono. And their print shop does an outstanding job on custom canvas conversions plus they work with you on any (or none) framing you might want. All this, and they rent out equipment, too - try them!!

I've rented from Pro Photo a couple times in the past, and had no issues. I recently rented a full lighting kit that included two umbrellas, two stands, one speedlight (I had another at home) and a Pocket Wizard for communicating between my camera and the detached flash. 5 minutes before closing, Tim, from the rental department, set everything up with me and explained very well how to use it. As it turns out, the Pocket Wizard didn't operate once go-time hit and I needed it. I tried various trouble-shoots, but none worked. When I took it back I explained as much to him (lucky me, he was there when I returned) and after examining the Wizard he gave me a full refund. He then sent me an email apologizing once again for the hassle, and informed me that he had put a note on my account there to allow me to rent my next lighting kit from them at a solid discount. Great service. :)

If you live in Portland, are a photographer of any level and haven't heard of PPS, you should change that immediately. Support our guys locally, they have what you need. I accidentally had left my battery charger at home when I went to the Northwest on vacation, and was worried that I'd lose power for my Nikon D-SLR before the end of my trip. Instead of trying to sell me a new charger, they offered to charge my back-up battery for free. I left it that night and picked it up the next morning. That is the type of service and customer care that you don't get from the big-box stores.
