Amazing place! My boyfriend and I adopted our goofball Leon (formerly named Charlie) from here. He’s been such a playful, silly guy! He’s well socialized with people and animals and has a blast everywhere he goes! So many people fall in love with him quickly! We are so grateful for the people that helped us find our fur baby. We met with two other dogs (both were very sweet as well) but Leon won us over. Adoption process was easy and quick. Whenever people ask where we found him, people always say wonderful thing about DHA!

I adopted an amazing dog here about a month ago. She is very sweet and loving. They could improve explaining medical info during adoption. ONE YEAR UPDATE: Sophie is a sweet girl. She loves taking walks in the woods and naps on the bed. She had Mass Cell on her leg and the shelter was amazing. Helping me treat it, now she is all clear.

I brought one of my dog's there December of 2022 and then I brought my second dog there January 2023. I was told the rates had went up an additional $5 for a wellness check that was okay since they explained it however, I never received my receipt nor did I receive a form stating what was done or what was the findings. I was told that it would be emailed to me and as of this date I have yet to receive my email. So I guess I will have to make a visit down there just to get my receipt and a printout of my dog wellness check. And another customer was correct when I went in December I was able to go in the back with my dog when I went a month later than I was not able to go in so I just wish everybody makes up their mind I always stay mask

I just wanna say thx so so much, all staff were very very welcoming soon as we walked thru the door. Everything went fast. We wanted a female adult cat but soon we enter the cats area a cat Popcorn pick us. He grabbed at my jacket and from there my son and I fell in love. I’m so thankful this was the main Chris gift my son wanted and he got it.. we are so very thankful for our new member of the family. We will love and cherish popcorn.. he is spoiled already. This is a great place if you need your dog spayed or neutered. The price is reasonable compared to vet prices. The procedure went well for my dog and pain medication was provided. The building is modern. The only suggestion I would suggest is that when animals are placed on petfinder for adoption is to please have someone keep it updated. Many time folks who are looking to adopt not only look at the DHA website but petfinder, as well when searching for pets to adopt. It should be consistent to avoid confusion and needing to search multiple sites or ask if a pet is still available.

Who doesn't want to give another chance to a precious animal? They have many dogs and cats that are great pets and have a variety of personalities. A single home owner or a family of many, im sure they would be able to find you a pet that will change your lifestyle for the better. The staff is very welcoming and are an amazing team to talk to.They offer voulenteer work and provide experience with animals. If you're looking for a pet to share your life with and give a bright future to, or if you want to help these animals find nice cozy homes, then this is a place to consider visitng and chatting with the lovely people there. I thank God and those who donate for making pet food available. Were it not for the Humane Society it would be most difficult to continue feeding my eight foster cats in my yard that have come to depend on me and I've been feeding them for eight years and until I found out about the Humane Society I paid $30 for a 25 to 33lb bag of food. Sure is nice not to always have to spend that money on pet food. Now, I can buy more groceries 😊. Thanks to the 👼🏽 angels help!!

We adopted our last dog, DJ, a mixed dog breed that we think is part Jack Russell and part Poodle about five years ago. We're his 4th and forever owner. Our other dog we adopted from a rescue. No shade on the rescue, but Delaware Humane made sure DJ was healthy, microchipped, and friendly with other dogs and cats. We paid 1/3 of the price for DJ and got so much more in terms of services. They take such good care of the cats and dogs passing through, make sure they are a good fit for your family without being over the top in pages of applications to fill out. We are so fortunate, and the animals in our community are fortunate, to have such a wonderful needed organization and resource whose goal is to find homes for cats and dogs. They are a no kill facility.

Whenever I run low on dog food they help as best as they can. Great staff. The shelter is beautiful, I loved to go in there and visit the cats and dogs while I was there. The dogs have very nice kennels that allow them to go outside. Beautiful place & beautiful people. Now you know why Biden got his shepherd there instead of that God awful SPCA that makes you feel like your going there to visit an inmate.

I live in Jersey and I traveled here for our pet. It was so worth it. They are amazing and I was amazed and so greatful for all the after care they offer for the animals. What a beautiful place n great people who are doing an amazing job for the animals who have nothing. Please keep up with the great work. And anyone who turns away due to the prices of adoption, just remember that you get what you pay for. They can't do such an amazing job if they don't have any money. And if you can't afford them then honestly you don't need to adopt. Remember that if you can't afford them at the moment of adoption then you won't be able to afford the care of the pet once home and that isn't fair to the animals So please don't adopt unless you can afford to take care of animals. They deserve that much from the human race. I mean that's why they are there in the first place, someone gave up on them.

It's a beautiful place and, I adore the way that they are with all the animals they have that they are trying to adopt out! They are wonderful staff wonderful people there they take care of all the animals there including the veterinarian make sure that all the animals are well and very healthy and happy! My experience there with my service dog is and always will be wonderful and amazing. I love the way the staff and the veterinarian takes care of not just the animals there but, each an individual dog and cat that comes there for vaccines and everything else that is needed for your pet.

Wonderfully friendly and kind people taking great care with the adoption service. We got a healthy cat during the pandemic and they left us alone in a room with the kitty for as long as we wanted to get to know her. Cat was chipped, fixed, shots included plus one free vet visit. Great experience.

What an amazing place that does great work for animals. Some things have changed slightly for the safety of the animals and employees but they are still in need and accepting donations! We have donated items from their amazon wishlist and I got confirmation that these items are truly urgent and in need and used by the animals at the site or fosters. They also take washed comforters, sheets and towels so if you are doing some end of the summer closet cleaning, keep them in mind! You do need to go to the website and fill out a form so they know what you are donating and when approximately for the safety of everyone. I am so happy to have such a great organization in our community. Thank you for all the hard work you do each day to provide for animals.

They were very friendly and the cat area was very clean. We had an appointment at 11 but still had to wait about 15 minutes to get in. Other than that no complaints. You can tell the workers/volunteers really care about the animals.

This is an outstanding facility. The staff are friendly, welcoming, and take great care of their pets. They are also straight shooters as it pertains to adoption and want the absolute best. If a certain pet isn't the right fit they will tell you and help you seek out the best match. We found the adoption process here very informative and smooth. I had to take my cat there unfortunately but when I came in at my appointment time for the medical team to exam here to see if they could help me find her a good home , I feel very comfortable. The women working there were friendly and caring , they understand the emotional toll of having to surrender an animal. Thankfully they were able to help me and take her. The cats are able to roam in a big room and they have Kitty does for them to go to an outside cage to lounge and enjoy the outdoors! They take the dogs in walks and play with them that we got to see while being there. All the animals there we saw were very healthy and happy looking which made me feel a lot better though I still miss her. They even have a separate cat play room that you can take the pet. In to get one on one time. It's definitely a great place when looking to adopt as well!!

The building is very big, very clean and even houses an outdoor enclosure for the cats to sunbathe. I was extremely distraught when dropping my cats off and the staff were very accommodating and understanding. They allowed me to go in the back and say goodbye(like 3 times!) and that’s appreciated. The lack of star came because of their failure to respond to calls or emails regarding my cats’ adoption. I just wanted to know if they had been adopted. Or if they were still available for adoption, but my calls and emails went unanswered.

Great facility. The front desk staff weren't very welcoming, brash and didn't engage in any type of conversation. The area for the cats was very nice and well kept. You can tell they are being cared for, the staff in the cat area was very nice and she knew all of the cats name.The area for dogs were rather small for people to walk around and look at the dogs. They had about 16 kennels and they all had runs to the outside.. There was no staff in the dog area to tell us about them.

This was one of the cleanest, well taken care of and largest shelters I have ever been to. The staff especially Dawn and a woman named Deme were so extremely helpful. Dawn made us feel comfortable, she walked us through the entire facility and made sure we were not over whelmed! She made sure to match us in the most sensible way to a very sweet little girl. The process wasn’t at all lengthy and she really tried to get a feel for who we were and which type of dog would best suit our as well as the dog’s needs. You can tell this staff knows their stuff and truly love the animals. They even have a pet food pantry to help those who can’t afford to feed their pets! We had an incredible experience and hope to pick up our furry friend in a few short days!

I found a cat who was extremely hurt. He couldn't walk and could barely eat. I called and they transferred me to the animal control officer on duty and he literally was there in 15 minutes. He informed me that they don't come out and pick up stray cats, but he did it anyway. From the very first phone call I made until he came and picked up the cat literally just took 25 minutes. I got lucky that day. But its really heart warming knowing there is people out there who cares and loves animals as much as I do. Thank you and God bless your hearts. Excellent job!!!!!!

Facility is clean and bright which was nice to see since many other shelters were dark and dirty. We found our fur ever pup and took him home as a foster until he was ready for adoption. Our pup displayed a few less than ideal behaviors and DHA got us resources to curb them. If you're looking for a new puppy or kitten he k them out.

I had a lot of issues getting them to get back to me for several months about the fixed and fav program, but after I finally got to the right person, they actually just emailed it to me instead of telling me they sent it and wait up to a month for it to show up. They should really offer this option for everyone to make things easier on all parties, but I'm glad they helped in the end. Thanks. My kitty is fixed and fab now 😁

Ooh, The Delaware Humane Society is Beautiful! The cats and dogs are clean and well tended to. The environment is truly as it's name states..Humane. If one would choose to volunteer just go on line to fill in application. Waiting list for them to co tact u. Also, will have training seminar to introduce methods to handle these precious creatures.

My sister-in-law recently adopted a dog here. Although we were there for a long time as the adoption process moves slow, staff was very helpful, and there was a great selection of dogs. My sister-in-law took her time visiting with three dogs in a designated room and selected "Charlie." He is a high-strung puppy but the adoption is a win-win for both parties. Nice large and clean facility. Do your homework as I was prepared for payment but it could catch some bysurprise.

DHA is great. Their staff seemed very compassionate and knowledable about the animals. Many other rescues (through no fault of their own) don't seem to know much about the animals. The application process is fairly simple. They really do try their best to match you up with the best animal for you. We looked for a dog for a good while, and DHA was the best. Their facility is top notch, and their adoption process is very simple. Would recommend to anyone!

This is a very nice facility and the organization does good for animals but could you please consider designating a room for FeLV+ cats? Feline Leukemia is not a death sentence. They live very happy lives before it effects them and some live VERY long lives.

I went in on a whim because it was national puppy day and found out that they were running a weekend adoption special. My son was looking for a dog and I brought him back. He found a redbone coonhound that is the perfect pet for him. All of our pets have been rescues and we know that sometimes they have abandonment or trust issues. The staff was very careful to make the perfect match based on our household, other pets and concerns. Skeeter was very frightened for the first few weeks and as he was shipped in from a southern kill shelter they had little information on his background. He's doing so good now and I think that they could not have recommended a better companion for my son.

My girlfriend and I were blessed to have adopted a young kitten named Eileen several months back from the DHA. The Delaware Humane Association are light years beyond any other animal shelter I've ever had the privilege of coming in contact with. They are first and foremost a no kill shelter. The quality and dignity with which the animals therein are treated becomes abundantly clear, even with a quick glance at their website. The cat rooms in particular are rather stunning. Not only are there several clean, large, and enriching rooms for the cats to spend their days in. Each room is equipped with a little tunnel that leads to a more outdoor/porch area for the cats to enjoy the sun, sounds of nature, and a little privacy. Staff members are well informed on the ins and outs of each cat's personality/history, and each room is adorned with photographs and name plates describing each and every cat. You don't get the sense that the cats are suffering, and that's a real distinction I can make between the DHA and other shelters. The cats are living dignified and happy lives while they wait for someone to take them home and love them forever. As a side note here; I know this isn't a review for the website's photographs, but the photographers they employ do a tremendous job of capturing the spirit of the animals that are available for adoption. I know this may seem trivial, but being able to see the animals that are available for adoption and being able to get a sense of their character can be a crucial deciding factor for many people who may be on the fence about visiting.

My wife and I adopted our first dog together from DHA in 2015. Everyone was knowledgeable and professional during this experience. I decided to become a volunteer there as a small thank you to DHA for their tireless efforts serving animals in need. The staff members are inspiring and compassionate. Please visit the Delaware Humane Association instead of looking for a dog or cat at a pet store. DHA has a wide variety of wonderful animals in need of good homes!

They helped me out at my toughest time in my life,my son had left his three actually 4dogs with me I got one adopted and I got evicted out of my own house that I owned because of it,I tried unsuccessfully for months for someone to help me,when I got the eviction papers it stated,if dogs r not of premise in 48 hours I will no longer be allowed back on property or to my own house ,the dogs weren't again agressisve they were well behaved one was a triple xcell pit worth 4grand I I could have given him away easy but wouldn't because he deserved to be with people who would love him not use him to make money yes he was papered his name is Kodiak,Lila Marley it broke my heart 💓 at my 11th hour save ,these people heard me crying ,called me back and took all three,I lost my house because of it,my livelyhood,etc,,,I felt great knowing they would be ok because of these beautiful people,may God bless them,when everyone else wouldn't help me ,ps I lost everything I had ,but knowing they r ok helps sincerely ,Kelly fanello

I am giving them five stars in the staff area but I was davisated when I got a phone call from them telling me my cat did not make it after surgery getting spay and Neutered I did not what to hear that I started to cry because he was the best cat we had and now he is gone now I am scared to take my other animals to the vet I am telling myself is it going to happen again plus they paid for my cat to be cremated I am still waiting for his ashes to come back it's been a whole week now since he been gone so that's my story to you guys
