We decided to try VEG for a Saturday evening cat emergency based on these reviews and had such a great experience we are compelled to add our own.
From calling them from home to driving back home with a cared for pet was 2.5 hours total. They brought us into an exam room in 5 minutes, and started treating our cat before we could get the paperwork done. We stayed with our cat the whole time, which kept us all calmer.
The center was clean and calming. The staff offered us masks (we forgot them in the car in our haste) and was quick to provide reassurance and even offered us water as we waited. Our cat needed abdominal X-rays and they allowed us to watch from the window, and one vet tech just stroked our cats head reassuring him through the whole procedure.
Pricing was fair and all available electronically. We left with a treatment plan and got a thorough follow up email the next day.
We are so grateful this office exists and we’ll definitely be back (hopefully not soon tho!)

I visited to the VEG at night time. There are a lot of staff here. Staff is very nice and enthusiastic. The check in is fast. It's really nice that you can stay with your pet all the time. The doctor is nice. The hospital is nice and clean. There are a lot of dog at the emergency but it doesn't take too long for the doctor to see my dog. I am really happy to take my dog here.

We love VEG. We have taken our cat in two instances and both times we were very pleased with the attention and treatment. The staff there is great and very friendly and I love that you can talk to vet before deciding wether to rush to emergency care or not.
I could not recommend this place enough

Wow, we had an emergent issue with our male cat. He had a urethral blockage over the weekend, which could have resulted in death. All the emergency vet services that we knew of were full, so we went here based on the recommendation of our friends at EMMAVet in Alexandria, VA. The crew here was quite simply outstanding. So professional, caring, and most of all, COMPETENT. Our little guy sailed through, even though he is quite a difficult customer when it comes to medical staff relations. Thank you VEG for your open door policy (you can hang with your pet while they are treated), and for your empathy and amazing quality of care. God forbid, we will be back!

Took our dog into VEG because he was having some emergency health issues which our family Vet couldn't make time for. Dr Pierrapaoli and her team were amazing! I have no recommendations. The clinic is run like a well oiled machine. My wife is a Ukrainian veterinarian (with US experience) and she wouldn't stop talking about how impressed she was. Great experience! Professional, knowledgeable, compassionate and understanding. Thank you Doc P!

My kitty was not doing so well when I came home after leaving him overnight, and after frantically calling my primary vet, my boyfriend and I decided to bring him here. They saw him immediately and within a few hours, had figured out his bladder was blocked, checked his blood, sedated him, and unblocked his bladder. The staff were all phenomenal and talked me through everything they were doing. They offered several options for payment and made sure my boyfriend and I understood everything they were doing to treat him. We received texts throughout his first night in the ER and updates with his status and even a picture. I could not recommend this place enough to anyone who is having a scary time with their pet. They are organized, compassionate, and very very good at what they do. Thank you Dr. D’Aurora and Dr. White for keeping us in the loop and being so wonderful with us and with our Pickle man!

I could not recommend VEG highly enough. 10 stars. There is nothing more stressful for a pet parent than being in an ER with a sick pet, and there is no place better than VEG to make you and your pet feel safe and cared for. I have been to many pet ERs in the decades living in DC, and they have been nightmares (up until we found VEG). If you want you and your pet to be treated with outmost care, professionalism, dignity, respect, and love then VEG is the right place for you. We spent about 48 hours here and saw nothing but excellent care and endless love and compassion. Most important, VEG allows you to stay with your pet the entire time (day and night). And they treat you and your pet as if you are family. Compare VEG with other ERs where you and your sick pet have to wait for six hours to talk to a vet and where the vet does not even bother to speak to you face to face and avoids any personal connection by forcing you to speak on the phone! Compare VEG with other ERs where they separate you from your pet and you don't see your pet for days and you have to make dozen calls and spend hours waiting by your phone to get any updates. Thank you VEG for being our family for 48 hours this week. I witnessed them saving many lives during these 48 hours and giving them the most excellent care and love one can wish for. I am bad with names but remember a few special angels to thank - Dr. Watson, Dr. Dlubac, Dr. Cat, nurses Danielle, Kristen, Gwynne, Alexis.

Our pup was hospitalized at VEG for 7 days with Parvo! :( Parvo is an awful virus and I hope no pup or dog has to experience it. (We brought him in after he started having diarrhea, vomiting and refused food.) Thanks to everyone at VEG, he is ALIVE and doing great at home. Caring for Parvo isn't glamorous, but those at VEG DC did everything perfectly. Really appreciated being kept up-to-date with our dog's progress day & night, with multiple pictures/videos. Their open-concept practice is a huge plus - you can walk in and visit/stay with your babies as often as you are able to. I don’t even know where to begin thanking everyone - Brittany, Jess, Amanda, Ms. Jenny, Shreya, Dr. Burchfiel, Dr. Mike, Dr. Jones, Dr. Zepp, Dr. Watson, Dr. Pietropaoli, Dr. Dlubac, and EVERYONE whose names I didn’t get, including those at the reception and who we met in passing and exchanged greetings with, but who were there to care for our pup, keep him company, give him pets/treats, clean his vomit/diarrhea/urine - everything! Would like to express our sincere and heartfelt thanks to everyone at VEG DC. We’re so grateful for, and appreciative of all do for emergency animals and what you have done for our little guy!

The absolute best experience one could ask for in any emergency situation for your pet. From my first call to get help and the simple check-in through to check-out and post-op, the process was simple and transparent. That's not to mention the incredible, friendly, and compassionate staff and doctors. Thank you Dr P and everyone at VEG for taking such great care of Pickle when he found himself ... in a pickle! Every vet practice should aspire to VEG's model and standards. You have our thanks and all the stars!

My pupper wasn’t feeling herself. I had my mom look up an emergency vet for me and she found VEG. They saw her right away. They went over everything with me so I understood the treatment and outpatient plan. The staff was extremely friendly and went above and beyond to make sure both myself and my dog were comfortable. I would highly recommend them if you are having a pet emergency. They really care about their four legged clients.
Karina Morales
Dr.Suzuki was thorough and honest with me about my dogs injury. She was efficient and compassionate I trust her with my dogs! The technicians greeted me and gave my very nervous dog some loving. I feel comfortable having my dogs under VEG’s care ❤️❤️❤️

Took my pup daisy here after another emergency clinic did not have enough staff to take care of her. It was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had and I’ve had many dogs. Super easy to check in online, the staff were friendly caring and professional and the doctors really took their time with everyone even though they had quite a few emergencies going on. Highly professional people and I would not hesitate to come back if the need arises.

THE BEST CARE! We have an older dog who has unfortunately been to too many ER visits in the last year. After having to wait in my car for 6-7 hours or being told “we are at capacity” we were pleasantly surprised to talk to a person (not being put on hold) and to be told to “come on in”. If this alone didn’t make us happy enough, the experience we had and the care we received from VEG was beyond compare. We were seen immediately to access our pups vitals, offered a snack and a drink then got to stay WITH our terrified pup until we could be seen. The level of care and diagnostic tools available onsite, and cleanliness of the facilities, and the super caring and positive attitude of EVERYONE there makes this our go to for any ER pet care in the future. Hanna, Paris, Kam, Nisha, Kristin, Miranda, Miranda, Kimberly, Brittany, Frank, and Dr. Burchfiel made us feel right at home. Although we hope you never have to experience a scary emergency with your pet…if you do..you have to come here. Thank you VEG team! You took excellent care of our family.

The team at VEG was fantastic this past Saturday when I brought my nine year old pup in with an emergency situation. I highly recommend them. They're highly skilled, compassionate, competent and kind and have all the best diagnostic tools to care for your pet.

We took our cat here after she had been lost for almost 6 weeks and then attacked by a dog. It was a very sad, difficult situation- but we couldn’t have asked for a better place to go to. The main vet, Dr. Germain, was phenomenal- kind, patient, wise and incredibly caring. It is an intense environment with quite a few animals and their anxious owners but you always felt like you and your pet were important. The techs were great - if the vet wasn’t immediately available - they were always there providing care and information.
Our cat was there 3 days and ultimately- she did not make it; it was heartbreaking for us but everything was handled with care and sincerity; we were given a separate, quiet room to say goodbye to our beloved cat. And while we walked out of there bereft - we were grateful for the care afforded to us and our cat.

Pet owners in Washington DC are so lucky to have this option available. I had my first traumatic sick pet / middle of the night experience last night (okay not THAT bad but still scary for me). After calling and speaking to a vet twice I brought Gemma in around 3am and they treated her right away and everyone made me feel so comfortable in a stressful situation. It’s SO nice to work with a business that truly stands behind everything it claims. Their kindness, professionalism, and compassion during stressful situations truly makes all the difference in the world. Massive thank you to all the staff there!

Normally don’t write reviews but this was definitly a case I had to share my experience with others. Our cat Baby had been throwing up and having diarrhea for the past week and barely eating or drinking. We knew something was wrong. We got a new kitten a week ago so her stress levels were way up but wanted to make sure it wasn’t something more serious. They took her blood and did checks to make sure and it turns out it was the stress level being too high from the new kitten invading her territory lol, but the important part is how well they took care of Baby and gave her fluids, gave us some medicine for her upset stomach and even trimmed her behind and cleaned it up due to the diarrhea getting dried up there. The staff was all very friendly, not just us but every patient there was taken care of and happy with the service and staff. I had concerns about the price and budget and they worked with us and knocked the price way down for us which I am very thankful for. Vets and pet care can get very expensive but it’s amazing to know a well known respected place like this is still willing to do this for us. I read online their slogan was to have top pet care and the most important thing is to have our pets get the help they need any means necessary, and honestly this is not just some BS nice sounding line, they actually believe in this and follow through with it. It’s a comfortable feeling knowing there’s a 24 hour ER near me that I can trust when the time calls for it. THANK YOU VEG.
Anne White
I trust Doctor Michael with my elderly German Short Haired Pointer mix. He is as gentle with the parents as he is with the animals. He is like a son to me and treats us just like family.

I brought my dog in over the weekend following a very traumatic seizure. I had initially called Friendship, our primary care vet, and they recommended VEG because of their proximity to our location. I’m very glad they did.
Pros:
- When I called VEG in a panic to explain the situation, they gave me a clear wait time over the phone and also sent checkin forms via text to help expedite the process. They were very calm and empathetic, which I appreciated in such a stressful time!
- Once we arrived, Kelsey helped triage our dog very quickly and had excellent bedside manner. Two techs also very patiently and lovingly put an IV catheter in our dog right in the waiting room so we could help keep him calm.
- The staff was very, very kind and communicative. Our doctor was extremely straightforward and did not sugarcoat anything, which I could envision upsetting some people, but we appreciated her transparency (also worth calling out that I think this was a cultural communication difference).
- If you want to, you can stay with your pet the entire time they’re hospitalized. They even let us look into the X-ray room when we had to be separated from him momentarily, and they said people sometimes camp out next to their pets’ kennels if they stay overnight.
Cons:
- We did wait for a couple of hours after the triage, but the clinic was busy with critical cases so it was understandable. And again, they were transparent upfront that there was a wait. One of the vets came out periodically to update the waiting room on timing and what to expect. They had free snacks, coffee and wifi, too.
- The team recommended our dog stay the night, which we had some hesitations about since he gets extremely anxious at the vet and all his labs/X-rays came back normal. We vocalized those concerns and the doctor told us she still would like to keep him for observation and he could be medicated for his anxiety. We agreed and then first thing in the AM, we got a call and text that he was super anxious and we should pick him up asap. Because stress can exacerbate seizures, this was a bit concerning. I wish we had weighed this more carefully and possibly received input from other vets on staff.
- The open floorplan is a good concept in theory but is stressful when critical cases are on the floor and emotions are running high. Keep in mind that even if you bring your pet in for a minor emergency, you may witness some upsetting conversations with other patients. And likewise, don’t expect privacy if you go in for a major emergency (though there are a few private rooms for more sensitive cases like euthanasias).
- Yes, it’s expensive — but as an emergency vet, that’s to be expected. It was far and away cheaper than Friendship would’ve been. Make sure to ask lots of questions about what your deposit includes. We conditionally accepted a few pieces of his treatment plan and initially signed a consent for a lower deposit, which helped put us at ease a bit.
Overall, I’m very pleased with the care we received and will definitely return if we experience another emergency. Special thanks to Kelsey, Sheila, Kam, Bryce, Sydney, Dr. E and Shep’s whole team!

The entire staff and medical team at VEG are outstanding! I have been twice now and have received phenomenal care both times. The staff is friendly, welcoming, caring, compassionate, knowledgeable and attentive. They communicate with you throughout your entire visit. You get to stay with your pet the whole time even when they are attending to them. Even when there has been a wait, they attend to you swiftly. The staff follows up with you via text after your visit to check in on you and your pet and offers ongoing support should you need it. This is the only emergency vet I will take my pet to. I cannot recommend them enough!

It is never good news to realize that your loved pet needs emergency attention. We needed to have our Labrador checked for a digestive problem and we were referred to go to VEG. We live in VA and generally look for VA services. I could not have been happier! They were the most lovely group of veterinarians and support staff. They went out of their way to make sure that our pet was comfortable and they offered us refreshments while we waited for examination, x-ray, and results. I love the open concept and they have great core values. I hope that we do not need emergency services in the future... but if we do, we will go there again and I highly recommend their service. (So does Marty!)

This place is wonderful. Our dog had very weird behavior pop up on a Saturday night and showed significant distress. I CALLED VEG and Friendship to get a sense of their wait times, and VEG was already predicting half the time so we went there. By the time we got there, our dog was totally stable and like nothing had ever happened. In those circumstances you go to the bottom of the triage queue which we totally understand. But very quickly at VEG someone assessed him, took vitals, and did intake. Not too long after we had a doctor with a plan. I love that your dog doesn’t disappear into a black hole in the back of the hospital. You’re there for the whole time. You can watch XRays happen through the door! And everyone is sitting on the floor comforting your animal. We saw lots of other patients receiving compassionate thorough care. I’ll never go back anywhere else for emergency vet needs.

Our dog was treated for a double ear infection here and we were SO grateful for the incredible care and compassion he (and we!) received. The entire staff was friendly and helpful, and it was very clear how hard they work and how much they care. We so appreciated the level of attention, compassion, and skilled care shown to our pup. The communication we received was also excellent and very clear. Cannot recommend this place enough -- thank you for all that you do!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! My cat had an emergency and I had to rush him here at 4am. They immediately took us back and started checking his vitals. They didn't have me sign in or anything. Their priority is caring for your pet first. Paperwork comes later once the crisis is addressed. They never separated me from my cat. They explained everything they were doing and they explained all my options. They were also super transparent about pricing. I'm going through financial troubles and they helped me lower the cost. They are very experienced with emergency care. Both me and my cat felt safe, comfortable, and cared for.

This group is one of the best in an emergency. Their calm, friendly demeanor helps when you are in a panic. You can tell they love animals and are VERY knowledgeable. I hope I don't have to but for any future emergencies I WILL need coming to VEG.

My dog Tula had surgery here to remove her eye. I was an absolute mess emotionally but Dr Alysha Worth was so kind to me and Tula that it helped to calm me down. The nurse Grace was incredibly skilled and compassionate with her care. Knowing she was in the very best hands meant the world to me and she is completely recovered and doing great!!!! I honestly don’t know how I would have gotten through it without their amazing skills and support. I highly recommend the care here.
Patrick W. Flynn (Patrick's Pet Care)
I've owned a pet business in DC for ten years, I am also a retired emergency medical technician, and I have interacted with dozens of veterinarians and veterinary practices (and worked in human emergency rooms), but I was particularly impressed with my experience at VEG.
A close personal friend of mine hired a pet sitter (my company does dog training and dog grooming, not pet sitting) when she went away on vacation. At one point in the middle of her trip, the pet sitter reported in an app that her cat was "acting funny" and "might be sick?" but the pet sitter did not call and my friend did not see the message in the app until the next day.
Early the next morning my friend called me and asked me to go do a personal visit to check on the cat, and when I got to her home I found the cat seizing on the bedroom floor.
I took my friend's cat to VEG and we were seen immediately. Unfortunately, the brain damage from the seizure was too severe and the cat could not be saved. However, if I ever experience a veterinary emergency, I will return to VEG based on my experience that day.
Some things I really appreciated and valued:
1) Clear, calm communication with me (and my friend who was abroad) in an emergency
2) Easy integration of technology to get the care happening quickly with check in ahead of time, and facilitate communication between VEG, me, and the cat's human (who was overseas at the time)
3) Clear, calm internal communication between members of the VEG staff (who I was observing)
4) The opportunity to be present at the bedside to watch the interventions and attempts to save the pet's life, and not have to wait in some waiting room while the life was on the line
5) The open floor plan where I could see the vital signs and monitors and tools being used real time
6) The compassionate care and empathy shown by the staff toward the sad situation
7) The clear communication about costs at each step of the way so my friend could make informed decisions
It's very sad that my cat couldn't be saved. But these people did their absolute best, and had the perfect balance of professionalism and empathy needed in an emergency.
Elizabeth Delaney Moore
This was the most efficient emergency visit I ever had. My dog was seen immediately on H Street, and the environment within the room was very calm. I sat with my dog the entire time, which decreased her nervousness, and a vet tech stayed by her side at all times making sure she was comfortable, even when she was under anesthesia and completely out of it. I appreciated that my dog was allowed to stay on the floor because she is very anxious on the metal vet tables. All the vet techs were so friendly, clear in their explanations of what was happening and what the options were, and thorough in their support. The main vet that we worked with stayed on well past the end of her shift to finish working with my dog, and I was so appreciative of her commitment and care. One of the vet techs even took it upon himself to clip my dog's nails (totally unrelated to why we visited the emergency vet) while she was sleeping.

This is truly a superior pet ER. I hope my pet never needs emergency care again, but if they do, I will absolutely choose VEG-Georgetown again.
My pet experienced a priority emergency that would have been fatal by morning. All the 24-hour animal hospitals were extremely busy that night. Nevertheless, because of the critical emergency, VEG-Georgetown began diagnosing and treating my pet within 15 minutes of us walking in. Every single person on staff was very attentive, warm, and caring. They carefully discussed the realistic outcomes and costs with me up front, performed the needed procedure adeptly, and followed through flawlessly with their treatment plan.
The fact that they were extremely busy did not diminish how attentive, focused, and caring the whole team was. Their work was so organized and accurate that it was easy to trust. I watched the team giving care, services, and love to all of the animals there. During my pet's hospitalization, I visited several times (mornings, days, and nights), and always found my pet was being loved, attended to, and kept comfortable.
I received excellent communication about my pet's status, what tests were being done and why, and what the outcomes were. The day and night shifts were always in sync, and no details ever got dropped.
The doctor's work was flawless. The outcomes were the best I could hope for. The bill was in the middle of the range they told me to expect. They even followed up with me after my pet came home to see how they were doing.
I am extremely impressed with VEG-Georgetown and with everyone on their team. And I'm grateful.

The medical staff at VEG are incredible. We are new puppy owners with little experience. Everyone was so caring and attentive to both us and our puppy and made sure we felt comfortable. They were great listeners and answered all of our questions. We left feeling at ease knowing we have these wonderful people to go to for emergencies.

We recently brought in our mini-dachshund "Boots" for a respiratory infection that had quickly turned concerning (and normal vet couldn't see her soon enough). Dr. Pietropaoli saw us right away and took care of her. After discharge we were regularly texted and asked about Boots' recovery. I wish these folks did non-emergency care, but am thankful they are always there if time is an issue. Truly, Dr. Pietropaoli and staff were remarkable and I (and Boots) highly recommend them to anyone in need of veterinary care.
Katherine Baker
All the staff provided quick, friendly, and compassionate care to my cat. We were helped back to a private room where my cat could roam around and feel more comfortable. I felt like the doctors and techs cared about her and her outcomes. We would definitely return if we have another emergency.
Timothy Scranton
I took my 9-month-old dog here this morning due to a sudden emergency and I had such an excellent experience! The process of coming in for an emergency visit was very simple: I called them, they sent me an online form to fill out with my dog's information, and then I drove over to the clinic. After sitting in the waiting room very briefly, my dog was seen and the veterinarian provided a diagnosis that was easy to understand. The staff there was extremely friendly, including the secretary, LVT's, and veterinarian. They also worked really quickly and efficiently. Based on this one encounter, it seems like the staff here really cares about the health of the pets in their facility and I 100% recommend visiting them for any pet emergencies!
Sophie Jin
I have been to VEG twice so far, and both of the experiences were amazing! Doctors are there 24 hours for walk-ins and questions through phone calls, and my cat and I just feel so secured with such easy access to doctors. And the doctors are always so caring and trying to give the best advice to put you in ease.
Kris Kim
This place is phenomenal. My dog torn a ligament and there wasn’t any available veterinary clinic so I decided to take my dog here. From check-in to check-out, all the team members treated us with great care. My dog is worse to deal with at hospital but VEG team was patient and were extremely nice to work with my dog even during x-rays. I can definitely trust VEG team to take care of my dog as they’ve shown to me that they care about their clients’ pets. Dr. Michael White was awesome.
Kim Mitchell
I love the transparency of their operation and the energy it gives to each parent and their pet. My puggle had not slept for days and had been crying. Our vet, Dr. Sara Pietropaoli, was incredible. She devised an action plan to determine what was going on with Ashburn. I love that VEG lets you know where you are in the process, and their discharge paper is detailed and clear and outlines the areas of focus. I want to thank Diana, Akira, and Kandace for their assistance while at VEG, which made it welcoming, and why I will return for future ER care. It's day four, and he is on the road to recovery. THANK YOU SO MUCH; WORDS CAN'T EXPRESS WHAT JOY YOU'VE GIVEN TO ASHBURN!

We are visiting DC from Canada and our 20yo dog was having gastro upset. Without our regular vet nearby we were grateful to have VEG to take her to for fluids and intestinal calming meds. The staff was terrific even at 5am. Thank you VEG!
Michael Perillo
After calling around four or five “emergency” vets in the Fairfax area we got in touch with VEG. We had a lot of anxiety about our pups condition. Dr. Watson and Rodney were very thorough and helped put our minds at ease. The entire team here makes you feel very welcome and they really care for the animals. This is my new go-to for all my emergency vet needs. Professional, friendly, state of the art service. Can’t recommend them enough!
Jessi S
We had to bring our dog in very late at night about a month ago and Rodney, Dr. Watson, and Shawntae were fantastic. Despite being pretty busy we were examined, treated, and out in a relatively short amount of time (much faster than I expected, anyway). Rodney answered several questions and explained each of the charges to us before they proceeded. They treated us and our dog with care even as they had to juggle several patients that night. I hope never to have to seek emergency vet care again, but would come back here if I have to. (I actually wish these were the staff I could have at my regular vet!)
Layne Emery
The veterinary emergency group is fantastic. I’ve take my dog to see them
twice now because her primary vet usually has 2-4 week wait and their emergency department is a 6-8 hour wait and not very transparent. Both times I’ve brought my dog to see the veterinary emergency groups has been so easy, they take her vitals right away and she’s typically seen within just a few minutes. Both times we’ve been done in less than two hours.I always know she is in the best care. Everyone from the front desk, the vet technicians, and vets are so kind and patient. My girl really hates the vet and shakes terribly but they take the time to try to calm her down and make her comfortable. They are also so patient with me and listen intently to her symptoms and her history. We have been to many veterinary hospitals and specialists and I can say that veterinary emergency group has been one of the best. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
Julia Ogg
Truly amazing experience. I brought my senior dog in at 2 am who was showing signs of pain and distress and was immediately welcomed in. Dr. Zepp brought a sense of ease and made us feel important even though it was a busy night. She cared for my dog without judgment and was very thorough in her care. She made sure we understood everything and brought the same level of attention and passion to all the clients in the space. The staff were fantastic, offering snacks and beverages while we waited. They were kind and chatted with us which helped to lower our anxiety. This is one of the best vet experiences I've ever had.
Hippy Chicken
I have never experienced such a warm, caring, and professional animal hospital in my life. Shelia, the receptionist was the most pleasant, and helpful front person and Dr. Watson clearly explained all procedures and aftercare for our dog. Staff was caring and attentive We came from Virginia and would travel 100 miles if we had to. Thank you VEG!
Christine Clark
My dog and I had a great experience at VEG. If she ever has another emergency, we will definitely call here first. We were at VEG for 24 hours total so my dog could get fluid therapy. They let me stay with her the whole time, and they made the experience super comfortable for both of us. At the same time, they were compassionate, caring, and professional. I highly, highly recommend VEG!
John Moore
Total transparency when I brought my dog in for an obstruction in his stomach. They walked us through all the possibilities and allowed us to be with him during the procedure. My dog was calm and felt comfortable knowing his family was right there with him during the procedure. Best emergency vet experience I have ever had.
Kendra McLauchlan
VEG is amazing. My dog had a medical emergency late at night and I was not sure where to turn. Hannah answered the phone, walked me through the process, and got us in quickly. Dr. Zepp and team gave my beloved dog the best care and gave me support when it was clear my dog was not going to make it. The facility, the people, and the whole experience made a nightmarish scenario bearable. They even sent a card a few days later. Truly, VEG helped me and my dog when we needed it most. So grateful for them.
Dannika
Absolutely incredible care. My boyfriend and I brought our newly-adopted little guy in due to blood in his stool and Dr. Watson and the entire staff was unbelievably helpful. I loved that we were able to stay with him the entire time - they even allowed us to watch his X-Ray through a window. We felt so much trust in their care of my Blue all the way through. There was so much kindness and compassion shown for both the patients and the pet parents. The lovely receptionist even brought over some drinks and snacks for us. They explained everything incredibly well. When I had a new question the next day, I called and the nurse who had helped us the night before remembered us and answered it for me.
Molly Feltner
VEG took great care of our beloved dog Boots after he suddenly became ill with kidney failure. The entire staff, from the veterinarians and vet techs to the receptionist did their best to make us and Boots as comfortable as possible. We received frequent texts and calls during his stay with updates. They did everything possible to give Boots a chance and when there was nothing left to do they helped us with the difficult decision to let Boots go. Thankfully we were able to bring him home for one last day of cuddles. VEG made a terribly sad moment in our lives a little bit more bearable.

Can't say enough good things about this place! My pup had very minor issues but needed to be seen and we couldn't get him into his usual vet. A lot of emergency clinics had such horrible reviews and I was nervous to bring him to one.
VEG was nothing but a great experience! Everyone from the receptionist, to the assistants, to the doctors were so kind and attentive. You can tell how much they care about the pets that they see there! They were communicative and transparent about the pricing, medications and procedures that were going to be used.
THANK YOU for easing my fears about emergency clinics and I will be coming to this one every time!

Review from 5/22/2022: Thank you, God and VEG team (all the wonderful doctors, nurse assistants and techs, and other emergency staff), for giving Charlotte the best emergency care services and treatments, and, especially this time, for saving her life as I almost lost her!! Most importantly, thank you Dr. Pietropaoli and Dr. Zepp, Nurses Brittany, Tati, Jess, Ali, Samara, Oscar, Victoria, and Lindsay for providing very detailed emergency care and treatments (including the blood transfusion procedure) to Charlotte for her severe GI issues (with straight bloody diarrhea). I very much appreciate everything that you have done for Charlotte! Because of you, Charlotte is alive and is on the road to recovery!!! Charlotte and I are forever grateful for your service!! Hugs to you all!!
Review from 12/2021: I went to VEG with my senior dog recently due to severe vomiting and bloody diarrhea. Throughout each process (from the check-in, examinations, hospitalization, to the discharge), I was very impressed with the thorough diagnosis and explanations, care and treatments that were provided by the VEG team (Dr. Roberts, Dr. Germaine, Nurse Anne, and other super helpful staff). Because of the VEG team, my senior dog is getting much better and is recovering well. Thank YOU, all!!

VEG thank you so much! The staff were so friendly and attentive making sure our pup was comfortable and cared for the entire visit. Staff were also very thoughtful in checking in and making sure us as owners had everything we needed as well. All thanks to VEG, we made it home to rest and recover with much more ease knowing they are there 24/7 to provide such great care.

Emergencies for your pets can be one of the most devastating experience you can have, especially if you have an exotic animal who is having an emergency in the middle of the night. I called over 20 exotic emergency hospitals with no luck for getting any help for my chinchilla and I got lucky to come across VEG who accepted to see my chinchilla right away. The team was super welcoming, kind, professional, and everyone went above and beyond to help us out. Dr. White is a gem of a doctor who has an amazing bedside manner.
Although I do hope you never have to experience an emergency for your pets, I highly recommend this place if it comes that you do.

Cannot say enough good things about the staff and care our dog Oreo received when we took him in for an emergency visit. He was having some stomach issues and pain and the staff there were very accommodating and put us both at ease. Doctor advised on the immediate tests and procedures to determine if it was truly an emergency, versus follow on items which did not need to be done until we saw how he was feeling in a few days. So that saved from over treating/more expensive testing. Very pleased and would highly recommend.

This place took such good care of my cat. We have been struggling with urinary issues for a few months and he, unfortunately, became blocked. The entire team was so quick with admitting/unblocking him. They allow you to stay for the entire procedure which I have never experienced anywhere else and truly appreciated. There are no set visiting hours so you can come see your baby whenever. Special shoutouts to Dr. D’Aurora and Dr. Burns as they were so kind and explained his condition to me perfectly. Our tech (or nurse?) Diana was amazing and made sure to update me on what was happening each step of the way. Your animal will definitely be in good care here!!

I brought my cat in for a visit because he had been super lethargic and puked up all of his dinner on a Saturday night, and so few places are open on Sunday. All of the staff I talked to were super kind and caring, from the staff member who answered my panicked phone call and sent me a check-in link via text, to the techs who were super gentle and kind with my baby both when taking his vitals and giving him fluids, and especially Dr. Shah, who listened to all of my concerns, examined my cat, recommended a course of treatment, and didn’t order tons of unnecessary tests but told me things to look out for in the next few days. I absolutely recommend VEG - they were all so kind and I could just tell how much they care for the pets we entrust to their care. Felix and I thank you all!

We used Vet Emergency Group for my dog’s emergency ear surgery. The experience was wonderful. The Vet tech and vets were knowledgeable and compassionate. The pricing was fair and it was a much better experience than any other emergency vet in the area. I highly recommend this practice!
Robin Bectel
Everyone was really great. The wait was about 3 hrs start to finish and they had to take a more severe emergency case in front of us. The waiting room was really comfortable and they had coffee and tea and water. And they were just super kind. They kept us up to date. Kept checking in on us. I would definitely go again should we need it

Have nothing but the most positive things to say about this place. They took care of our dog in a time of need and did it with love and care. Dr. P and all the vet techs were really great, as was the front desk. You can tell they love their animals there and care about what they’re doing.
Bridget Todd
I brought my cat in after mis-dosing her pain medication. I was so worried and scared about my best furry friend. I honestly cannot believe level of service I got at VEG. They are truly kind people who care about the well being of animals. After examining my cat, it was after midnight, but they cleaned out a room for her to use the liter box, offered me beverages, and told me to take as long as I like. On the way out, I saw a staffer (pink hair 'Anti social vet tech" sweatshirt) lovingly and patiently walking a pup outside in the cold as if it were their own.
5 stars for this place.

The absolute best care we've ever received for our pup! We can't recommend this place more highly for emergency treatment. We brought our golden retriever in after a sudden downturn in pneumonia, and they had him stay overnight. The vets, the technicians, the staff - they were all top-notch. Warm, compassionate, competent, consistent. It's really obvious that they're passionate about what they do here. Biggest shoutout to Jenni and Dr. White for their above and beyond treatment of our doggo Ody!! A week later since our discharge, and Dr. White still took the time to talk us through some test results and answer our questions. Would absolutely come back here should we ever need it.
Melinda Mansfield
This group got us in when 5 other ER vets told us they were full and wouldn’t take anymore animals. We were at a loss. The staff was kind, knowledgeable, friendly, caring, and you could tell they truly love animals. We couldn’t have felt more welcome and taken care of. Thank you VEG for taking us in and helping us through a crisis with all 4 of our animals.

My experiences was absolutely phenomenal. I lost hope in alot of emergency vets due to extreme wait times and terrible turn around times. I called ahead of time in which I was tended to immediately without being placed on hold. Upon arrival I was immediately greeted and taken to the back to get registered and have my pet assessed. All the staff were professional, pleasant and excited that you came into their facility for help. I was extremely relieved when I was able to stay with my pup the entire time while being walked through all procedures and tests being taken. I also received a ton of free education and general knowledge about my pups issues and future preventive measures. I’d like to shine light on Faith, Brittany, Andi and Tati for their amazing teamwork and genuine care for the patient and their owner. Also, Dr. Pietropaoli was amazing. She connected well with me and my pups needs by gaining a well known pet history and comforting all our concerns. I also really appreciate that this facility honors active military and veterans when it comes to paying for care. I would 100% recommended this facility. The staff are on the same page operating fluently and in unison and the facility it very clean and inclusive to all parties.

Absolutely love VEG!!!!! They took good care of my rabbit, I don’t know what I would have done without them. Thanks Spot 😊, Libby, Malik, Hannah you’re the best 💯🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 …

Our dog was furiously licking her paws until they were raw and we decided to put that paw into a sock to prevent her from licking overnight.
We had to take her to VEG this morning as her paw was swollen from being in the sock (my fault) and consult for the raw wound. We received attentive service as soon as we arrived at VEG and registration was a breeze.
The clinic, waiting area and treatment room was clean, organized, and calming. The vet took her time to explain the cause after the examination and suggested preventative care. We had a treatment plan within an hour and the charges were reasonable.
If you need urgent care for your pet(s), I would not hestiate to recommend VEG. Thanks.

On Labor Day weekend we were visiting family in Maryland when our dog got hurt playing. They were the only emergency vet that would take us due to our dog needing stitches. They were very busy when we got there and they immediately put my wife and I in a room. Thankfully because we were a mess and although my baby was hurt he was ready to start barking at the other animals. We were having trouble controlling his bleeding and the doctor came in not to long after informing the staff. They took such great care of our baby and we are forever grateful to VEG for saving our baby!! He is doing well now, trying to run and play like he didn’t just get internal and external stitches. Thank you again to all of the staff that helped us that night!!

One of our cats can be a little spicy at the vet, especially when she's not feeling well. Dr. Watson was tremendous with her. Despite the fact that our cat was feeling terrible, I never saw her react so well at a veterinarian. We had been turned away from another emergency pet facility that was over full. In the future, we'll be going to Veterinary Emergency Group first!

Veterinary care the way it should be!
My dog Stella cracked one of her front claws two days before Thanksgiving. It was cracked pretty badly but wasn't bleeding. I thought about taking her to the emergency vet but after doing some research on-line and because it wasn't bleeding, I put some Neosporin on it, wrapped it up and waiting till the following morning to call my regular vet. After calling my vet at 8:00 when they opened, I was told to send a picture and she would have the vet look at it when she arrived 11:00. Long story short... got the run around treatment from my regular vet and was told to keep doing what I was doing and to make an appointment. The next appointment was DEC, 7..... TWO WEEKS later. After watching my poor dog in obvious discomfort, I decided to take her to VEG on H street. My prior emergency vet experiences have all been with Friendship Animal Hospital. If you've been there, or read the reviews, you know what an Un-Friendly place it is. VEG promises to fix Emergency Vet Care, and I can honestly say they have been successful! After trying my regular vet again, and finding out they are closed on Thursdays, I called VEG, told them what was going on with my dog, they texted a link to check in via their on-line system, showed up with my dog and was quickly seen by a doctor. Everyone at VEG from the front desk to the back of the house was welcoming, helpful and obviously loves animals, you don't get that feeling at Friendship! They took great care of my dog I was able to stay with her the whole time and the whole thing took about 2 hours. I'm so glad that we finally have a choice when it comes to emergency vet care. I forgot to mention, the bill was quite reasonable, and I didn't feel like I was being ripped off In fact, I received a refund from the initial estimate. My dog and I are home and she is resting comfortably, I wish I would have taken her last week when this first happened instead of waiting on my regular vet who didn't care if she suffered for two weeks. Thank you VEG!!!

They don’t deserve 5 stars … they deserve 100
STARS ! I cannot thank VEG ENOUGH ! They are the best !!! I also want to thank one of the doctors Michael J white !!! All staffs are super nice and friendly ! I highly recommend bringing your pets here for emergencies. I brought in my puppy who had an injured leg and they took very good care of her, they also let you company your pet through the process ! They are truly AMAZING

I hope no one ever needs an emergency vet, but if you do, this place is absolutely amazing. Everyone is incredibly warm and kind. They let me stay with my little guy the whole time and explained every step of the process to me. So appreciate them and such a great addition to the neighborhood
Thomas Surgeon
I had take our Jack Russell to a vet immediately last night due to bleeding from his nose, lack of eating and drinking water. Sadly, he was laid to rest. The staff, nurses and veterinarian were unbelievably professional, compassionate, patient and cared for my Buddy with superior care. Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️

VEG Georgetown is an EXCELLENT place in what can be a scary time for pet parents. Every member of their staff is very kind, patient, and reassuring. They are super knowledgable and treat their pet patients with care as if they were their own.

Do not go to Friendship. Do not go to South Paws. Go here, to VEG. They are better than both. I have had many pets, plus I also do rescue, so I know the vet scene in DC, and VEG wins.
Here's why I like VEG better than the other two emergency places. Friendship once estimated $2,000 for a procedure, and then handed me a bill for exactly DOUBLE that amount when I picked up the dog. Yes, they have good veterinary services, but they simply **don't care** what they do to you financially. South Paws is better than Friendship, but they charged $1,600 for a cat that strained his back and was in pain. Really, $1,600? For an x-ray and some pain killers?
VEG wasn't cheap at $1,000 for sedation and biopsy, but the doctor assured me that what she estimated was what I would pay, period. No surprise bills. I am pretty certain that they figured out what the other two were doing, and deliberately chose a price point that was still spendy, but way, way, WAY better, with a saner system for getting paid (upfront).
If it was just about money, VEG would win, but they are also nicer. The front desk staff at Friendship are battle-hardened from years of being screamed at over bills (I swear I never did that), and they can be defensive and cold. Staff at South Paws are better, but they're firm and all business. Meanwhile, VEG let me stay with my pet, they were sweet to me, and they told me the price on the spot instead of doing all the treatment and then giving me a wicked surprise later.
BTW, this is only an emergency place. If you want a regular vet I recommend District Veterinary. For annual checkups, shots, etc., they are my go-to and I particularly love Dan Teich for dogs (he was a hero and came to my house once when a dog could not be moved), and Brant Hassell for cats. But if your pets, like mine, have their troubles on Sunday mornings, Friday nights, etc., never on Tuesday morning when you can get an appointment, then VEG is a dream.
VEG saw me through a rough time and I am super, super grateful.

I had to euthanize a pet a couple weeks ago very suddenly. The whole staff were nothing but patient and gracious in a really tough time. I just received a personal card with notes from each person that works there. As well as a laminated card of my fur baby’s paw prints. Very thoughtful and caring group. Definitely recommend
Rachel Scherer
brought my cat spunky in for kidney-disease related issues late one night and i was very satisfied with the care they provided for him! everyone was super nice and sympathetic which is super important to me. i was even provided a phone charger while waiting for treatment! dr. pietropaoli took care of us and she was fantastic. even checked on him via text the next day and offered to write him a new Rx when i mentioned how he was doing. hoping i don’t have to come back here anytime soon, but if i do, i know i’ll be in great hands!

I can’t say enough good things about VEG. Brought my 10 y/o cat in and he was seen promptly. Exams are in a touchdown area of sorts, which really brings peace of mind through being able to stay near your pet. Thanks to Dr. Erikson, Diana, and the rest of the team.

I took my sick cat to VEG 4 days before Christmas. He had urinary problems. The vet gave me three alternatives. 1. Surgery that could cost $4,000-$5,000. 2. A temporary treatment $470. 3. Surrender (euthanize)the cat. I must say, the vet only charged me for medication $160. From that day to Christmas eve, he didn't get better so, I decided to take him to Animal Human Society to put him down. I was told they would examine him first. I pick up my healthy cat on Friday night. Happy, frisky as ever. He will need prescription food for the rest of his life. I was told the problem could occur again but it's a crucible problem.
Thank GOD I took him to AHS.

We had a fantastic experience well as much as possible for an emergency visit. My lil dude ingested old rat poison, and we took him. He was pretty feisty, but the staff was so accommodating with his fits. He had to have a 24hr stay, but I received tons of updates, and they worked with his vet for a smooth transition. Thank you to all the doctors and vet techs who worked with my bud.

The Vet Emergency Group is an all-star team. They swiftly handled our Black Lab Charlie and provided a course of action that put me at ease. Dr. White and the staff are world-class. Thank you.
Erica Black
These guys are the best! I rushed my little pup there after a injury DEAD BROKE! and they worked with me did a small exam on him and was able to give him pain meds regardless .. definitely my number one recommendable vet
Purva Goel
Didn’t go in but called to ask about an issue my cat was having to see if it warranted an emergency visit. I was promptly connected to dr Roberts who answered my questions and helped me decide to wait and monitor his symptoms before going in. Thankful for her honest advice!!

I took my dog Sugar here today and had a wonderful experience. Dr. Brooke Watson was so nice and thorough in caring for my little girl. She was so informative, kind and calm with the situation at hand. How lucky those of us in Georgetown are to have a Veterinary Emergency Group near us! This is high caliber treatment! All the vet techs were incredible as well. The front desk people were friendly and accommodating. Sugar was at ease here and loved everyone and every dog she met. She was in good hands.

The team at VEG are outstanding by every measure. I was very happy with the compassion, care, and professionalism afforded my dog Chuy (and me). Just a great team. I can't recommend them enough.

Dr. Whaaaichael James treats our black lab on a regular basis. Exceptional bedside care for people and animals alike. Definitely not his fault that he can't grow a beard. Appears to be fluent in Spanish but no one is really sure. Kaimana Dog loves his attention and would stand behind this 5 out of 5 Paws review. Outstanding would vet again.

I had an emergency with my dehydrated 11 week old
Pup after being at Waldorf Emergency Care with no solution and after waiting 5 hours. This place was amazing!!!!!! Everyone is informative and helpful and all care about your pet the same. This is a good quality place that cares about your PETS health and well being not your MONEY like other places. I was very pleased with the techs and the doctors services and attitudes. Definitely was worth the drive. I will keep them in mind for anybody who ask.

Had to take my puppy in at 1 am for an emergency and the entire staff was so kind and we were seen and spoken with immediately upon entering. Everything was explained extremely clearly and we felt very confident with the level of care being provided for our puppy everyone was so accommodating and we were able to stay with our dog through the whole process. Rodney was particularly kind and helped to put us at ease as soon as we arrived, and Dr. Watson was very detailed in her explanations and extremely patient with questions. Definitely a five star experience

We brought our cat to VEG on the basis of a referral from our primary veterinarian after she ingested a foreign body. The care she received there was absolutely exceptional—the staff and doctors took time to talk through her case and were responsive when we had questions, the facility is sparkling and allows you to be near your animal, and the organization was upfront about pricing and left you with the feeling that they were going to try to save you money if and where they could. Best of all, of course, we left with a cat that has gotten back on her feet in no time thanks to some great surgical work. Highly, highly recommended.

This hospital was absolutely amazing. If my dogs ever need care, this will be the emergency vet we bring them to. I couldn’t have asked for better care for my hedgehog, Harold. I was very concerned about bringing him to a vet that doesn’t specialize in exotics, but the team was absolutely wonderful. So kind and compassionate to me and Harold. When they didn’t have a heat lamp or a noise free heat machine for him, they were innovative and brought us gloves filled with hot water which worked perfectly. They did everything they could to minimize his stress levels, including allowing us to sit in a quiet, dark room. They let me stay with Harold the entire time, and explained everything which really settled my anxiety. I genuinely could not have asked for better care for my pet, and I can’t thank the team enough for helping Harold. If anyone is wondering, he’s doing great now and was happily running on his wheel when we got home.
The techs were amazing (though I can’t remember their names, my apologies) and the vet, Dr. Pietropaoli was incredible. I don’t have the words to express how amazing this hospital was/is.

Today my partner and I had to put our beloved, cat, Pirate, down. He was 17 years old. The VEG clinic went beyond the expectations we had during that very difficult time. Not only was Dr.White so kind, attentive, and understanding — but the technicians were just as wonderful. Dawn was so incredibly kind to our little cat son during his final hours. This has been a really hard day, nonetheless we feel like we made the best decision at the best place with the best staff. We are so thankful to our doctor, the technicians, and the front desk staff. If you have to make a tough decision like we did — I recommend this place.

I normally don't write reviews because I feel like sometimes experiences vary depending on a lot of things. I brought my dog in and VEG gave my dog the best service I could ask for. I came in at around 10pm for an emergency and the vets were quick to get us in, run tests and examine my dog while providing me updates on everything as we went. During the time we were there the vets were making my dog feel as comfortable as possible while administering the care he needed. I cant thank the staff enough and Crock thanks you too!
evry1loveronica
My dog got an eye ulcer, the vet was so patient, professional, not rushing us at all and answered all our questions. Even though we went in for eye issue, the vet also found out about my dogs knee dislocation n informed us about it.
The front desk lady was super helpful and friendly too. A very good vibe in their tram. I recommended all my friends their clinic
The clinic was clean, everyone was so friendly from the front desk, nurses, and vet which was very comforting.
Parking could be tricky, we found a spot one block away on the street side.

I am beyond impressed with VEG! We woke up at 4:30 am to our dog panting and excessively drooling. We had been to our primary vet the day before where we were told he probably had some indigestion and an upset stomach but I knew it was something more. After being denied assistance from another emergency vet in the city, I came across VEG and was able to explain the situation directly to a vet and we were suggested to come in. The second we walked in we were immediately taken care of as far as getting assessed and checked in. The team jumped into x-rays and turns out he had aspiration pneumonia (common for his breed) and which was potentially missed by our primary vet. My partner and I were able to be with our dog during everything and could come and go as we pleased. With so many covid restrictions, it was so nice for both of us to be there. They also texted and called with updates and sent pictures. They took incredible care of our little guy and he is on the way to making a full recovery. They were also very upfront with costs and any over charges were paid back to me. It's a shame they are just emergency services because we had an amazing experience despite the stressful situation. This was truly one of the best vet experiences i have had.
Kate Okker-Edging
It's hard to imagine having a positive enough experience with an emergency vet to want to write a review, but here we are. All the staff at VEG were incredibly kind, helpful, and competent. I was able to stay with my kitty while he was treated. Even before we got there, I was able to talk to a doctor on the phone (which has not been my experience at other emergency vet facilities). Highly recommend for pet emergencies in the DC area!
Mae Bowen
Tried this new emergency vet and had a great experience! We waited a good long while as my dog was not in any critical condition, just sick and unable to see a regular vet for many weeks due to how backed up things are. Knowing that one day my dog could be the one with a true emergency, I appreciate seeing that triage in action and didn’t mind the wait because VEG made it comfortable. While other emergency vets in the area make you wait outside and not join your pet, VEG is the opposite. We sat inside in a comfortable waiting area the whole time, I went back and forth with him when he was seen by techs and the vet, and we were regularly checked on by the team. Before we arrived we were given an accurate estimate of the wait time. Folks offered to bring us water and the folks in reception came over to spend time with my dog and others as we all waited. The waiting area had a stock of treats and a coffee station is available too.
We saw Dr. Suzuki and she was wonderful! She has a great bedside manner and explained everything to me, got my dog the medicines he needed to feel better, and sent me home feeling far less worried than when we arrived.
It’s never cheap to use an urgent care option, but I wouldn’t hesitate give VEG a call again if my dog is ever sick and in need of care more quickly than our regular vet can provide. It was on par or cheaper than area emergency options and the quality of care and customer service can’t be beat.
Leigh Bailey
A trip to the emergency vet is never for a good reason but everyone at VEG made my two recent visits as pleasant as possible. Everyone was professional and friendly and seemed to really care about me and my cat. When we had to make the sad decision to end our cat's life, I felt supported and everyone was sympathetic and caring. A few days later we received a condolence card that had a handwritten message from everyone on staff, which was a lovely end to a very sad day.

I brought my dog, Ruby, in after a fight with another dog which caused her to need stitches in her ear. This place was amazing and made the process a lot less stressful. I believe Megan was the vet tech that helped us but unfortunately don't remember the name of the doctor who performed the surgery. The receptionist immediately got us into a private room (probably because of the amount of blood on myself and my dog and the fact that she was actively bleeding) but even so having the private room was extremely appreciated. We did wait quite a while for the surgery because some other cases came in that required more immediate attention, but for how much care the techs and doctors put in to our case I didn't mind (we were there from about 7pm until 12:30am) Eventually, they let us know it would likely be about an hour until she went in for surgery so my boyfriend and I got some quick food and they set up a kennel with a blanket and water for my dog to lay in. She of course didn't like being left alone so they covered the kennel which is perfect because it allowed her to get some much needed rest. I asked if they could call me when they were prepping for her surgery so I could be there to watch and right as we got back they called and we brought Ruby back in the room until they were ready to move her to the table. The surgery went very smoothly and they even asked me to be part of the process which helped keep both me and my dog calm. The surgery was quick and they talked to me throughout the process letting me know what they were doing and what the aftercare would be. Once it was over, our tech took out the intubation tube and carried her to our room where we waited until Ruby woke up from her anesthesia. I was expecting with all the medications and the need for intubation and anesthesia for the surgery that the price would be absurd, but it ended up being about $1300 which obviously is high but knowing how emergency vet visits can be this was actually on the lower end of my estimate. Especially considering how well this place handled our case I was fine with that price. Thanks so much for giving Ruby such love and care!

We took our generally high-strung 13 year old cat here today when he seemed to be struggling to urinate. They saw us quickly and were so kind and communicative. Two hours later, with X-ray, ultrasound, diagnosis, and medication, we were heading home.
The experience was perfect. Alfie was happy to be able to hang out with us while waiting for the test results, and, now that we’re home, he is much less stressed out than I would expect based on prior experience with other ERs.
While, sure, I would have preferred to spend my Tuesday morning doing something else, the staff and doctors (and atmosphere) made everything as seamless and stress-free as possible!
Gisselle Escribano
Visited here yesterday with our nauseous pup who wouldn’t stop vomiting and had no appetite. Everyone there is so kind, made sure our dog was comfortable, and allowed us to stay by his side every step of the way. We even watched him get X-rays through a window. They treat all the animals with care and love, especially when their owners are not around to comfort them during overnight stays.
If we ever need any other emergency services, we will return to VEG.
Mason Sciotti
The best vet we've been to yet. Our dog got into the bathroom trash, and they answered the phone promptly and thoroughly even late at night. We drove over and were brought right in. They treated us so well, and made us and our pup feel comfortable when we were all pretty scared. They made us feel cared for, and talked us through what was going on and how they were going to handle it. We walked out happy from an emergency vet visit! And our dog was wagging her tail in no time.
Amy Lee
This place surpassed all my expectations. I called, they were immediately responsive and kind. My dog can be a little anxious around strangers but each staff member was extremely skilled at calming and befriending him quickly. They made what could have been a very stressful event for my little guy so much easier. He left with treats and a wagging tail. When I had questions about the medication he was given two days later I was able to get answers within 10 mins by phone. Seriously so impressed with the entire experience. Thank you VEG!!!
Lisette van der Ster
This place is simply amazing, I wish I could give a million stars! Not any pet owner wants to end up at the ER but if you have to, this is the place to go. Very caring, understanding and knowledgeable staff. You can stay with your pet or look through a window if x-rays need to be done. Staff takes plenty of time for you to explain what’s going on or what needs to be done. Compared to our regular vet we didn’t feel like a number here. It’s just too bad VEG only does ER, otherwise I would’ve transferred my dog here immediately from his regular vet. These people truly care about animals and their owners. Nothing but love!

I visited VEG tonight with a cat emergency. Rosie was having difficulties urinating after I was out of town and the cat sitter *may not* have done the best job ever keeping an eye on things. This is the first time Rosie has had an urgent health issue, and it's my first time dealing with a cat emergency all by myself in a big, new city with no one close by to help me out. Needless to say I came in a crying, anxious mess but the secretaries and nurses were very kind and kept offering me tissues and water.
I left with prescriptions, a treatment plan for Rosie, and a very reasonably priced bill within 3 hours of completing my check-in paperwork. Super kind, knowledgeable, and efficient people. Thank you VEG!

My baby boy and I are forever grateful with all the Doctors, technicians and staff who took care of Samie R. Zamora from the stressful admission to the discharge, everything was a wonderful experience. As animal parents, we do not doubt a minute to take the extra drive to save our furry babies, I am glad I found VEG.
Extra kudos to Dr. Robert, Rodney, and Erin.!
The fact that we can stay with our pets, I believe plays an important part of the healing process is wonderful, there are continuous updates, I could not ask for more. Thank you.
** Hopefully very soon a Virginia VEG can be open, we need the excellent care to save lives**

We took our dog, Ruby, in after she was bitten in a dog park. She was bleeding (non-critically) a lot and the staff at VEG took her in right away and stabilized her quickly, and within a few hours she was in surgery. The whole time our vet tech, Megan, and the entire staff were exceptionally helpful and kind. The ability for us to stay at Ruby's side from start to finish and the thoughtful touch of having a coffee machine on hand for visitors made the entire experience as comfortable as could be for all of us. The cost was very reasonable, the facilities were clean and modern, and overall we left extremely thankful for the outstanding service at VEG!

No one visits the vet because they (or their pets) are having a good day. My own vet referred me to Veterinary Emergency Group last night for my special needs dog to be examined, and the experience couldn't have been better. I was able to check my dog in online before arrival, and we were ushered to a private exam room within minutes. While the vet office was busy, staff consistently poked their heads in to share updates and offer drinks/snacks. I paid my bill online before leaving, which allowed us to head out right away upon discharge. Everyone was kind, gracious, and professional. I am so relieved to have VEG in this neighborhood and can't recommend them highly enough. Thank you!

Had to take my kitty Odysseus here a couple of weeks ago when he ate some plastic. Everyone was super professional and supportive, and they took great care of him. He's doing fine now, and I couldn't be more grateful.
I want to especially thank Mikaela for helping me quickly get from and to the parking garage, and for taking such good care of my kitty while he was in her care.
This will definitely be my go-to hospital in case of any future emergencies.

Darby and Dr. Burchfiel was so amazing!! Very patient with my coco and the knowledge and information they provided me was so helpful. The facility was clean, their energy was very welcoming and they made side my coco door was nothing but comfortable. I would Definitely go back and refer all of my pet moms and dads in a heartbeat!! Thank you so much!!

I never write reviews but I wanted to share my sincere appreciation for all the employees at VEG and share our really wonderful experience during a very stressful time. We did have to wait a few hours to be seen by the doctor since there was only one on staff that night but everyone was so kind and comforting. The doctor was clearly exhausted but we never felt like for a second we were rushed or not important, she clearly walked us through everything and made sure we felt comfortable and confident when leaving. All the Vet Techs we were worked with showed so much care towards our cat and I cannot rave enough about this practice and how well we and our cat were treated.

I brought my cat in very late at night because of an issue that couldn't wait until morning. They were professional, kind, and walked me through everything that was going to happen with my cat. They worked with me on prices and did great work. Cannot recommend enough

I’m a little late posting this review, but was recently reminded how amazing VEG is after having a terrible experience at another emergency clinic.
We took our dog to VEG a few months ago in the middle of the night. From the moment we called them and even after we left, they truly demonstrated care and concern not only for our dog, but for our mental peace of mind as well. We received outstanding service here. Hopefully we don’t need to make another emergency vet visit, but if we did, this is the place we trust wholeheartedly well the well being of our dog. Here are some of the things we appreciated most:
- We were allowed to enter the clinic with our pup to make sure she wasn’t overly stressed out (but in reality, it might’ve been to make sure we weren’t overly stressed).
- They explained what they were going to do/doing several times during the visit. There was never a moment where we thought what’s happening or what are you going to do next or why are you doing that.
- The staff did everything they could to make sure our pup was as comfortable as she could be given the circumstances. They also made an effort to make sure we were comfortable too.
- The vet sent us home with amazing instructions and a lot of information.
- The vet followed up the next day to check in as well as to provide even more information about what was going on with our doggo based on additional research she had conducted after we left.

Thank God for the staff and Docter who looked at our darling Shiloh, not only were they nice but so professional and very caring to our dog Shiloh. I definitely recommend this facility to everyone. It is spotless and everyone is so sweet and helpful. Thank you for being there for us, it is most appreciated.

This place has an excellent staff and great customer service. Roberts, Kayy, Dianna, and Brittany took really good care of my dog Bear. It was definitely a pleasure meeting you guys. Me and Bear really appreciate your service.

I took my doggo there today after a bit of a dust up at the dogpark. Puncture wound. The Vet Techs and Vwts could not have been icer and more responsive. They were great with my dog and with me. So professional and caring. Thank you VEG--appreciate your entire team.

We brought our pup, piper, in feeling nervous and unsure. She has been having some GI issues and her regular vet was unavailable. Everyone here was incredibly supportive and kind. They greeted us and almost immediately assessed piper to make sure she didn't need any emergency services. After a short wait, we met with the doctor who explained everything well and was very gentle and efficient when doing the ultrasound exam. Moreover, everytime we have called with questions or concerns they are super helpful and understanding. We feel very reassured knowing there is a reliable and friendly emergency vet clinic in the area. Thank you all so much for everything!!

My cat swallowed string so I visited VEG at midnight, we had to wait a little while, as it was a bit busy, but the staff were extremely nice and caring, especially given the panicked state I was in. Eventually, they were able to induce vomiting for my cat and he threw up the string and the staff were just as excited as I was to see him throw it up and went to show it off to the rest of the staff. The staff's attitude and care towards my cat helped me feel better throughout the entire night, and even though I ended up going home at 2:30am I would recommend this place to anyone that has to make a visit for their pet.
Jeff Schumpf
Excellent experience, I was turned away from other emergency vets or told 6-8 hour wait . VEG was extremely helpful, courteous and kind to my dog Bertie.
Chloe Flowers
I work at a dog boarding facility and had to bring one of our older dogs in as he wasn't doing too well. The staff was super friendly, accommodating, had great communication. We were in and out a lot quicker than other emergency vets in the DMV area and the pup got some meds for his issues. Their client service skills are top notch, definitely the best I've seen in the DMV area when it comes to animal care. If any of my personal pets experience an emergency I know exactly where to go.
Veronica Wallace
The staff is amiable and compassionate. The service was excellent and very transparent. In my time of need they were always available. Thank you from the Wallace family 🙏🏼 …

hands down the best care your animal can get. everyone is so sweet and patient. they take wonderful care of your babies.
Brooke Sahli
I had to bring my wheaten to VEG twice and both times the entire staff was fabulous!! They were so sweet to him, professional and thorough in resolving the issue. My pup felt so much better today after heading in around 1am in the morning. Thank you to the VEG team!! :)
Faith Davenport
By far the best animal care experience I've ever had. Wait time was low, the staff was extremely caring and patient towards me and my pet, and prices were reasonable. The staff went above and beyond to help my pet, and make sure that I was comfortable during the process. Cannot recommend enough.
Katie
My cat was having trouble walking on Saturday morning, and they were able to see him right away. The entire staff was friendly and did a great job of making both me and my cat feel comfortable and easing my anxiety. They were able to diagnose the problem and overall provided great care. I highly recommend bringing your pet here for emergencies!
Aleksandra Hamanowicz
Amazing people, their attitude towards animals and people is incomparable. We got excellent care, and were always with our pet through all process. By sitting on the floor they provide a safe environment for pet ( our dog has trust issues and she let the vet pet her! That’s a first ) Highly recommended in case of pet emergency !

This location is a much needed 24/7 emergency vet for the area. We had a great experience this past weekend. I called early Saturday, was sent a check in link and told to walk over whenever we were ready. When we got there we were quickly brought back for vitals. As it's an emergency vet they do perform triage so we were asked to wait as other more urgent cases were brought in. Once we were seen, the vet was extremely personable, knowledgeable and professional and we left with everything we needed for treatment. We'll definitely be back and we're relieved to have this service within walking distance of our apartment. Highly recommend!
Kyle Baugh
Veterinary Emergency Group is by far one of the most customer focused animal clinics we have ever seen and the new Georgetown clinic stands out amongst the rest. The ability to stay with your pet all during the process reduces our stress when an emergency happens. All the staff is super friendly and professional.
Paige Plucker
Prompt service and incredibly kind staff. Since my pet's injury was relatively mild (but still very scary,) I was able to stay by her side the whole time, and I was offered water and snacks. More expensive than I would have liked, by far, but a pleasant experience overall, and I will definitely go if we have another emergency.
Alex Shaw
Went to this location as I am new to the DC area and don't have an established primary care for my dog yet. They were so incredibly kind - I don't think I've ever experienced such a nice staff at any vet clinic in my dog's 7 years of life. They were really accommodating and even kept checking on me in addition to my dog. We were taken right back and out within a couple hours. If I could make this place my regular vet, I would. It's obviously not fun having to take your pet to the animal ER, but if you have to, come to this one. Dr. Zepp + Staff were great! My dog loved every human in there.
Note: Yes, treatment is expensive (as with any emergency vet and honestly, any city vet). They made sure to be really upfront about prices before you commit to anything. Invest in pet insurance if you can!

Today ,11/27/2021, my cat was serviced at theVEG in Washington DC. They were very patient and sweet with her. Even when she started to become restless and aggressive. They also let me go into the exam room with her, which was shocking to me. Since the pandemic started, I have not been able to go in the exam room. While I understand the reason behind not having too many people in one room, my cat was stressed out going to her primary veterinarian. They gave me a list of options for recommended veterinarians in the area, as well as local low income spay/neuter clinics. While I was there I had the opportunity to listen in on the employee team huddle, which was initiated by the young lady with the long straight hair. Essentially the employees each had a turn to say something positive about one another, which really speaks to the heart and character of everyone who works there. The prices were more than I expected and I winded up having to call a family member for help. As embarrassing as that was for me they were as helpful and patient as possible. The young lady who initiated the huddle even offered to get me something from Starbucks while I waited for help.

The absolutely best care my pet and I have ever received in 23 years of pet ownership. Dr Suzuki, Dawn, and the entire team were the most caring, professional, and empathetic vet professionals I’ve ever encountered. My 3 pound dog ingested hash/roach in a public space during her first DC outing. Very sick, and me worried sick, Dr Suzuki and the team were the best from start to Bella’s discharge. Thank you for making a very traumatic experience bearable! And, most if all, making Bella feel better!!!
Natasha D
The best emergency vet experience. Dr Roberts was absolutely wonderful and all the vet techs were so kind. I came in freaking out over my older dog having possible seizures and they checked on him immediately. While we did wait due to his condition being stable, it wasn’t very long and we got to see the other work being done here. This practice is doing amazing work and I hope they stay around for a long time. Thank you to everyone for being so calm, kind and helping my older man!
Meghan McCarthy
Georgetown VEG is a wonderful group of professionals who care for your animals as though they were their own!! The staff is wonderful and treats you like family as well. Quite easy on the eyes, Dr. Mike W., who I find puts fictionalized doctors such as “McDreamy” and “McSteamy” to shame in the looks department ;), is as competent, intelligent, and gentlemanly as he is attractive and has treated both of my dogs with the utmost love and affection. There are still good ones out there, ladies!!!!
Evan Zimmerman
Not necessarily a place you want to go, but if your pet needs emergency veterinary care, I can't imagine a better place to go. Excellent and compassionate care for pets and their people.
Michael Lawrence
We brought our dog in recently and the staff simply could not have been more professional and kind, from the receptionists to the vet techs to the veterinarian. The service was prompt (probably also a factor of showing up on a weeknight) and all of our concerns were addressed quickly. Everything was explained to us and at no point was there any attempt to up-sell us on treatment options. We could not be happier with our experience there and it will be our go-to for any future pet emergencies.
Alli Penfil
I took my dog here on a Saturday morning after he began to cough up mucus with blood in it. I called before arrival and they even texted me an intake form to fill out on my way. The staff was so kind and caring to every single person that walked through the door. They drop everything to help an animal in need and genuinely care about what they do.
Juliet Woolley
came here in the middle of the night with my dog and she was throwing up badly and just not in good shape. as soon as we walked in the staff welcomed us and was ready to help. they provided water and snacks for our wait and regularly updated me on what was going on and the wait time. treated my dog so wonderfully and overall an amazing experience with the staff. we did not arrive under the best circumstances but they made us feel so comfortable and reassured leaving. emergency’s are emergency’s and you can’t always choose but if you have the luxury, go with these guys!!!
Caroline Corbett
I cannot recommended VEG enough! They only do emergency care/walk-ins and took care of my cat’s urinary emergency immediately and with so much care and attention. Thank you to Dr. Jones, Dani, Darby and Michaela, who turned a stressful situation around and got my cat feeling better right away. Much love to the VEG team.
Malik Maull
TOP NOTCH CARE!!!!! 5 Stars is not enough. The staff is extremely caring, attentive, personable, & educated. I was referred here by multiple vet clinic and they all recommended that I go here over the other pet ER's. I'm so very glad that I did. My Noah got the best care EVER!!! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Dr. Dlubac, Lindsey, & Rodney!!!!!! I will recommend you guys to every pet parent that I know.

The doctors and staff at VEG transformed a life threatening situation into a disciplined and courteous treatment that possibly saved our dog’s life. From courteous and immediate customer service, to patient and caring professional accommodation of our and our pet’s roller coaster emotional swings, VEG delivered above and beyond service. What’s a review without a PSA? Never mix dogs with grapes: ingestion can lead to renal failure and death….we were some of the fortunate owners who had a professional intervention like this in time to avoid a negative outcome!
Lowell Ganin
VEG is the ONLY emergency vet to bring your pet to in the DMV. They are the most caring, well-organized, attentive, professional vet I have ever been to and after moving throughout the country, I’ve been to dozens of vets. I wish they were more than an emergency clinic because I would use them as my primary vet.
My Story: My 12-year-old healthy large dog was having severe breathing issues out of nowhere. I brought her to another emergency clinic in the DMV where after initially being told that her vitals were fine, I was told that she was in respiratory distress and there was a good chance she was going to die that night. After being caught off guard and being told things that didn’t add up, I decided to leave and go home with the expectation that my best friend was likely going to pass.
When I got home I decided to call VEG for a 2nd opinion (this was at midnight.) I spoke directly to the vet and they recommended I bring her in. When I got to VEG there were a group of veterinarians and techs waiting for us with oxygen. What really sets VEG apart is that you can be with your pet 100% of the time. I was able to be with my dog through the entire process, from X-Rays, to nasal tubes, to sedation. I was able to stay with her the entire time. Everyone there was so kind. They even offered me snacks and drinks and I was there until 5am.
My dog hates being crated so the staff at VEG set up a pen for her and put down pads and blankets for her to lay on. They would sit with her and talk to her when she was anxious. She was diagnosed with severe pneumonia. Because of their amazing care, my dog was able to go home after only 24hrs. She was discharged at 11pm because they thought she would recover better at home. They could have taken the money for the extra night, but they wanted to do what was best for my dog.
My dog is now on the path to a full recovery at home and is doing better and better every day. The visit summary was extraordinarily detailed with every vital check, medicine administration, and Radiology report. Thank you so much to Dr. White, Dr. Zepp, and Candace for everything. Your professionalism and compassion saved my dog's life.

I was recommended this new urgent care vet by another emergency vet in Arlington (who were at maximum capacity.) I had the best experience with my senior cat. Bronte at the front desk was incredibly compassionate, patient, and gave me all the information I needed. The radiologist and nurses Trisha and Jenni were also amazing. We saw Dr. White who explained everything and answered all my questions. At no point did we feel rushed, upsold, or confused. They gave me all the information and my options. I cannot thank you all enough. Hopefully I won't have to see you again, but if another emergency pops up I'll be returning here.
Kimberly Mehlman-Orozco
Without a shadow of a doubt, this is the BEST VET in the DMV. If you love your pet, you MUST take her or him HERE. Other vets may have more reviews because they have been open longer, but it’s only a matter of time before there are THOUSANDS of five star reviews for VEG. This clinic opened only in October of 2021 and there is a reason they already have 100 five star reviews. I have no doubt they will soon become the most in-demand clinic in the area. Hopefully will open another branch in Virginia. 🤞
Seriously. If you love your pet and have an emergency and want them to live a long and healthy life, you are making a mistake if you go anywhere else. That is my honest opinion and I hope it will save you some grief. I have full faith and confidence that EVERY pet will be well cared for by these incredibly empathetic, knowledgeable, and skilled professionals.
True heroes for animals in need.
Thank you!!!! 🙏🏼
Elizabeth Sullivan
Sad I didn't know about this place earlier! When my dog got bit around her eye, they accommodated her right away, and were beyond friendly and incredible treating her. Don't wait hours upon hours at Friendship - come here! Will definitely come back if we have another emergency.
Kim Noah
I rushed both of my cats to VEG after escaping a fire in my apartment building early this morning. I cannot express enough gratitude for the amazing care my cats received. Dr. Zepp, Erika, Oscar and every other staff member went above and beyond to not only provide the best care for my cats, but also worked hard to keep me calm and relaxed. Their empathy and professionalism is the best I have ever experienced in an emergency situation. I can't thank them enough and I am so glad we have them in DC.
Jessica Tufino
This place is great. Great vets, techs, nurses and staff. They love what they do and it shows. The quick response of the vet, Dr. Watson, Rodney, their staff, as well as specialist consulting, saved my dog. Thanks from the bottom of my heart
Madeline Najera
They are truly kind and compassionate and I'm thankful for how amazing they were as they helped me with Buddy's last moments before crossing the rainbow Bridge.
Dave Fox
Helped out my puppy in the middle of the night when he was sick. So caring, attentive and gave us a reasonable diagnosis, all for a very good price. If your pet has an emergency, bring them to the amazing people here.
Martina Rosen
Best vet we ever went to. Impossible to imagine a better experience with what turned out to be a worst case scenario. Go here.
DJ Daly
Took my dog here on Christmas morning for an emergency. EVERYONE was extremely kind and caring. They took such good care of my dog and kept me informed at all times. I can’t thank them enough for their kindness and professionalism. I highly recommend.
Sidra Ahmed
This ER vet is amazing. The open floor concept is so helpful when you are brining in your pet in a stressful situation. This team is also great with follow ups. The price is a little steep but it is worth it for the quality care you get.
Laurie Ellis
We had an early morning emergency with our 16 y.o. cat. Unfortunately he did not make it through his medical emergency. We can't say enough about the kindness and care our cat (and us) received. Randolph and Penelope deserve high accolades for helping us through a very emotional decision and ensuring our beloved pet passed painlessly and peacefully.
Mary Lee Joseph
Such a great place! Took care of our dog in the kindest and most efficient manner. The staff is warm, friendly and caring. Very clean, comfortable space with an “open door” pet visiting policy. Highly recommend.

I really don’t know where to start… It was truly a blessing to witness the level of care given to my 155 pound Cane Corso, Lincoln Abraham at the Veterinary Emergency Group facility in Georgetown from Kam, Sydney, Kristian, Miranda and Dr. White. These individuals took better care of my 4 legged child than I’ve seen most humans cared for in hospitals. From the time they helped get Lincoln out of the car to his final procedure, the level of care on a scale of 1 to 10 was 100, yes 100. Lincoln absolutely loved them all. The facility was orderly and very clean. All of the staff mentioned above were patient, kind, knowledgeable and most of all professional. I didn’t leave with the best news regarding Lincoln but I left knowing he had the best care while he was there and that’s a great feeling. I recommend this facility to all pet parents! I want to say thank you again to Kam, Sydney, Kristian, Miranda and Dr. White. You all are very special.

This is the best vet experience (emergency or otherwise) that we’ve ever had. Our beagle had a fractured dewclaw that had been bleeding and causing her pain. We called VEG and were told that there would be a 2-3 hour wait, which was about what we were expecting. When we got there, they checked us in and took our dog’s vitals immediately, and then Kelsea noticed our dog’s injury might be a quick fix and went to get Dr. White to see if they’d be able to get us out of there sooner. Sure enough, they were able to handle it immediately, and we were out of there less than an hour after we arrived (on a holiday weekend after a snowstorm, no less). We really appreciated Kelsea and Dr. White identifying that this was a simple fix and taking care of it ASAP.
Though quick, this was an unavoidably painful and stressful procedure for our dog, and the staff took great care to make sure she was as comfortable as possible, even treating her on a bed on the floor instead of elevated on a metal exam table. When they noticed she was having some trouble with the cone, they gave us an extra prescription to keep her calm so she wouldn’t mess with her paw while it heals.
Huge thanks to Shreya, Kelsea, and Dr. Michael White. I hope we won’t need to be back any time soon, but I’m so happy to have found a reliable emergency vet with such a wonderful and caring staff. Everyone was friendly and sweet, and I felt like we were in great hands. I would give 10 stars if I could!
Octavia Crawford-Gordon
We are Absolutely thankful for you guys! Our Rocky came in with a serve torn nail and the safe took Amazing care of our baby. Rodney is the BEST!! We appreciate you all for all you do.
Anna Pelesh
I took my cat here after some scary GI issues and VEG took great care of her. They saw her right away and were caring, attentive, and made sure all of my questions were answered. Hopefully I won't have another emergency anytime soon, but I will take her here if I do!
Mike Dunn
Kind, considerate, professional and helpful. They did a very nice job taking care of my dog after she got into way too much chocolate for her 19 pounds to process. Nice clean facility and wonderful doctors and staff.
Nelson D
You are all amazing. We went to VEG after being turned down by every emergency vet in NOVA due to not having space. Worth the 30 min. drive into DC. Staff was amazing, empathetic and caring. While I do hope not to need their services, I will not hesitate to make the drive to visit them again. Highly recommend.
Elizabeth Baker
This emergency vet group is a great addition to the DC area, which has been lacking in emergency vet services. All of the vet techs and vets we interacted with were very caring and competent. We were in and out fairly quickly too. I definitely recommend them!
Andrea Billadeau
They just opened this week. We had a great experience, everyone we interacted with was friendly and pleasant. They made sure our dog was comfortable. While we did have to wait some, they were great at communicating. They addresses our needs and sent us home with a plan to help our dog start to feel better.
Leo
My cat had had an urinary infection that needed urgent attention, not knowing about this place, but desperate, we took him there. From the moment we walked in they helped our cat and gave him immediate care and attention that was above our expectations. We’re very happy knowing we have this place for our family cats!
Emily Hawthorne
I took my 12 week old puppy to VEG in the middle of the night. The staff was truly amazing. The vet was knowledgeable and took my concerns very seriously. The techs even gave my puppy a blanket to get comfortable. Only a little more expensive than what it would have cost to take her to her primary vet. I say 100% worth it.
Helen Hatcher
When I arrive home on January 28th, my baby Prancer breathing was very swallow and she was so lethargic, she wasn't responding to my voice, my touch nothing, so I called the ER Vets and VEG as the closes, so I had her in there first thing Saturday morning and once the triaged her and listen to her breathing, they put her in an oxygen chamber, she was struggling so hard, that helped her breathing, they drew blood and took x-ray, and I was right there beside her, Prancer had pneumonia and a party wing enlarged in her tummy, they flooded her with antibiotics and , she was suppose had stayed overnight , but it was too expensive so home she went with extra antibiotics it was has been a month and my baby is find. I will recommend them and have recommend them already...they are the best of the best.
Thank you Dr. Worth and Staff.
Piper Akol
Great office. Were really helpful and thorough when my cat had some out of character vomiting issues. Since then, they have also been helpful when I've called to see if it was necessary to bring my cat in. Everyone was very patient and caring.
Priya
Our puppy Lily was immediately triaged when we brought her in. I was allowed to go into the exam room with her and wait there during x-rays, etc. Dr. Roberts, Kam, Miranda, and Hanna were so kind and thorough. They provided excellent care- we really appreciate them!
Tanvi H
I could not recommend this place more. I took my dog in the middle of the night and we were both nervous and scared and the staff did everything in their power to make sure we were both taken care of. Yogi arrived nervous and scared and left happy and ready to play! I especially loved that I was with Yogi every step of the way. A little expensive, but compared to what you're paying at other clinics, I'd say it's worth it.
prildork
Saved our little Pippin, cannot thank all the staff enough, especially Dr Baliss, Laura, Liz, Hannah and Rodney. You all made a veryyy stressful night easier ♥️
Marek Posard
Our family cat, Oliver, was dying of cancer and his health suddenly deteriorated late into the night. Dr. Catherine Lange advised us to come in immediately and was incredibly kind and thorough in her treatment of Oliver. Sadly, we had to euthanize him given his severe decline. I was impressed by the knowledge and compassion of Dr. Lange, the kindness of VEG's staff, and the hyper focus on reducing the pain of our dear cat as they brought him to peace.
Avery Sellers
Saved my poor dog from cannabis poisoning! Thank you VEG
Meghan Widmaier
So incredibly grateful for the team at VEG. My dog was treated for an eye injury by the two vets at VEG in under an hour. Pricing was surprising low for an ER vet. Thanks for taking care of my pup!
asli carome
Erin was the smartest, kindest most compassionate tech ever. We got a devastating diagnosis and she went above and beyond to help us.
Sandra Janus
Great and urgent care for my pup who had a stomach issue. There was no wait when I arrived this morning and we got the treatment and treatment plan we needed when I couldn't get an appointment at his regular vet. Super friendly staff and great doctor.

Amazing all around - the staff is efficient, compassionate and experienced. Price was reasonable and they were completely transparent about what would happen and what it would cost.

If I could give 10 stars I would! Friendly, competent staff who clearly love animals. Special thanks to Dawn for taking such good care of our Beagle-Basset mix today!!

This location was very kind and courteous. I was a walk in emergency for my 14 year old senior cat & everyone was hands on during the process. From the front desk to the staff, it was definitely a pleasure meeting this group of miracle workers. Thank you soo much for saving my cat’s life. <3

I’m so grateful to the amazing team at VEG. I called ahead with an emergency and they prepared everything to start treatment upon my arrival. Everyone was incredibly warm and empathetic and kind. I cannot recommend them enough!!!

We had an emergency with our dog and took him to Vet Emergency Group. They were super helpful and had us in and out in less than 30 minutes. Great service and very nice people. Thank you!

Me , my family and dog Kody came to this hospital around midnight on Monday . Kody was in pretty bad shape and was seen immediately . Dr. Roberts and Dr. White both were very honest with me all while showing empathy regarding Kody’s condition . I can’t say that this specific ER is expensive because as a pet parent , going to an ER .. I expect the treatments to be expensive no matter what . What I really appreciated about this hospital was that I was with Kody through EVERYTHING . Every ER I called before coming here told me that I had to sit in the car the entire time which is a huge no for me . I also appreciated the fact that Dr . Roberts spoke on the phone with me as I was on my way to the hospital . All of the assistants and technicians worked together as a team . We were there for about 12 hours and were constantly checked on , we were given blankets , asked if we needed drinks / food . Hands down the best experience I had with customer service in general. I will say that I hope the front desk become more knowledgeable of the services they offer . Every question I had , the young lady had to go ask someone for the answer . At that point , I was ready to go home after a long night . I wish my outcome was better ( RIP Kody ) but if you are looking for quality care , don’t hesitate to come here . It’s worth every penny . Thank you to everyone that took care of Kody .
Carisa Etheridge
I visited the hospital today and it was such an great experience. Dr. Zepp, Rodney, and Meg was amazing! They helped so much and was very informative . I would recommend and come any time Prince, my dog is in need.

Took my 11 month old puppy for an emergency check and they took care of us right away. Check in was fast and the staff was super friendly and kind. It is an expensive place but it was the only veterinary that was willing to help us.

Went in on the weekend when our dog started exhibiting signs of an infection and had a very good experience. Everything from check-in to resolution was handled with care, empathy, and thoughtfulness.

Where do I even start?! Dr. Mike is the bestest doctor I

The doctors and staff were wonderful, kind and resourceful in dealing with a very frightened puppy who had ingested something she should not have. I am very grateful VEG is around the corner!

I had to put my older dog down here a few weeks ago and the doctor, nurses and entire staff were so kind and patient the whole time. It was a terrible day, but they were very comforting through the experience and I’m grateful for that.

Had a wonderful experience, the entire medical staff is amazing! Dr. Roberts answered so many questions and was so patient with me- simply incredible! She took the time to explain the estimates and did the best she could so I wouldn't leave with a large bill at the same time finding the right balance with care for my 2 year old dog.
Didn't have the best experience with the day time front desk staff member, unfortunately, super cold, short and shrugged off my queries. But the evening staff member was wonderful.
But the rest of the experience makes up for it so I definitely recommend. Thank you to the entire team there for helping us <3

Second times the charm!
Our dog went in as she was breathing heavy and was lethargic. It turns out she caught pneumonia at a Rover.
The team at VEG could not have been better. It certainly helped that it was slow, but the thoroughness of the communication. Being up front about what they knew and what they didn’t know… I couldn’t have asked for more. She ended up spending night in the potato room, and they offered it up for me to stay as well overnight. I wasn’t able to, but it was touching that it was an option.
Huge thank you to Drs Watson and Pietropaoli.
Communication was great. She’s back on Her feet.

When I picked my dogs up from boarding after the winter holidays, they were both very sick with what turned out to be the dog flu. Our regular vet couldn't see us but recommended VEG. Both of our dogs ended up with pneumonia - our sweet old lady, Molly, spent one night at VEG, and our younger doodle, Birdie, spent two nights, since she required oxygen. Everyone at VEG was kind, understanding, and supportive. They allow you to spend as much time as you want with your sick pet, which was very helpful for me, since I was a wreck. They were visibly very busy but checked in with us as much as they could. There were also snacks and coffee continuously available. They provided detailed records and invoices which was also very helpful - I had no trouble getting my dog insurance claims paid. Hopefully, my dogs will not require emergency vet care again, but if they do, I will take them to VEG Georgetown.

Visited VEG this morning for a concern about my cat having a foreign body. They were professional, kind, and reassuring. Everything was explained to me thoroughly and I got to stay with my cat through the whole experience, which I’m sure can make the staff’s job more challenging at times, but I appreciated it! Thank you VEG!

My experience with Veterinary Emergency Group on M St. NW was exceptional.
Our dog, Louie, had eaten something potentially poisonous. Our regular vet couldn't see him right away, and we were looking at 6 - 8 hours of waiting to get in at the emergency vet clinic we had used before.
But when I called VEG, they encouraged us to bring him right in.
The receptionist knew the details of Louie's case when we arrived. The staff quickly went to work on him. They made sure to explain to me what they were doing each step of the way while not sacrificing the speed of their response.
I was able to stay with Louie throughout, which was so reassuring.
The VEG staff quickly got the situation under control. When they were done, they gave me his prognosis and recommended next steps, and we were free to go.
The professionalism and kindness of the entire VEG team throughout our encounter were remarkable. I'm so thankful to them for saving Louie from a potentially terrible outcome.

We were turned away from many places we called because our pet is a bunny. The staff here was WONDERFUL and they were able to give it their best even without an “exotics” vet there that evening. I thought we had no hope, but by the next morning she was stable and we could go to our regular vet.

Our primary vet recommended we quickly head over to an emergency vet as our dog had not improved after a few days of at home care. VEG is truly such an incredible facility with incredible staff. They are so beyond kind, patient and go above and beyond to ensure you and your pet feel safe and confident in their care. This is the second time we have had to rush our pet in to VEG and both times were exceptional experiences. I always have so many questions and concerns where I’m normally dismissed or feeling rushed at the vet but they always make me feel heard. Of course it’s an emergency vet so it’s expensive but so is normal healthcare for humans so what can you do! I cannot recommend them enough. THANK YOU VEG!

Last year, my cat was suddenly ill and I rushed him to VEG. The staff and doctors were utmost professionals who were compassionate and kind, even while providing heartbreaking news. I am grateful for the team that supported Professor TamTam.

I had never heard of VEG until last night when my dog's daycare took him to an animal urgent care for ingesting 24 pills, and they referred us to VEG in Georgetown. Everyone was so nice, and you can stay with your pet all night if you want. And the best part - they even gave me a REFUND of $1,000 when it turned out they didn't need to do everything they thought they would. Jax is now home and happy. I highly recommend!

On a Sunday night our beloved rat became ill. Respiratory distress and a fluid filled cyst. I called our exotic vet but their ER vet did not have an exotic vet on staff. I tried 7 emergency vets in Maryland and no one would treat her. 2 suggested they could euthanize her. One vet suggested VEG. I called and they said bring her in! It was over a hour drive but worth it. While they are not an exotic vet they stabilized her. She had fluids and her cyst drained. Put on antibiotics and pain meds. We got her thru the night and Monday to her regular vet. I’m happy to say she is on the mend and a happy rat. I’m thankful for VEG. It’s worth using them as your ER vet. Everyone was so nice and helpful.

We have had only positive experiences with VEG. When our dog became terminally ill, they provided thorough and compassionate care. They helped us through one of the hardest experiences we've been through. We recently got a new rescue who we brought to VEG. We hit some bumps getting her medical care up to date, but VEG sorted it all out. I'd recommend this clinic to anyone.

We visited VEG on a Sunday evening after my little troublemaker lacerated his tail.
Like any stressed out cat-mom, I was a blubbering mess just coming inside the building. They calmed me down and checked us in.
My boy is a rescue and VERY skittish. He was also bleeding profusely. We were placed in a small back room when they noticed he was getting very stressed out by the environment.
We met Dr. Pietropaoli, and she was awesome. Smokey took to her pretty quickly. She was able to examine him and was very transparent about next steps, medications, procedures, and the cost. No hidden fees, no unnecessary XR. Saved us at least $500.
The first two MAs (one I believe was named Mikayla) who came in to get a catheter in did their best, but my Smokey is very strong. They tried to wrap him up like a purrito (I told him he hates that and showed them a TikTok where I tried and he escaped). They would not let me hold him citing liability reasons (like I would sue them if my cat bit me?? He would never btw). He was able to get his back legs out and tried to run away. The stress caused his tail to bleed more and now there was blood all over the floor. I took him anyway because you’re not going to stress my cat out in front of me. Anyway, that didn’t work, so they brought in the big guns. It’s also shift change at this point, so they were probably ready to go. I won’t take away any stars, because what happened next was just amazing.
The office manager and her assistant came in next. Smokey took to them quickly. They allowed me to hold him while they provided a muscle relaxant and later catheterized him. Now he’s ready to go on the floor for surgery.
The muscle relaxant was not super strong (he is a very stubborn cat!!) so they put him under to do sutures. I think this is a teaching clinic; there was a young assistant I think named Brittany? who just finished her exams and now would be monitoring Smokey’s vitals while he was unconscious. She did amazingly. Thank you for your help. While under, he was still twitching a bit. More propofol. Dr. P did 5 dissolving sutures and 3 on top. He woke up uneventfully. We were given the breakdown on his medications and care plan, and told to follow up for suture removal. He looked like he got in a fight with a street cat, but my baby was okay.
When we got home, Smokey kept taking off his cone of shame. He popped the first suture in 24 hours, and the final 2 within the first week. I was able to contact the VEG team via text message and they were able to advise.
Smokey’s tail healed incredibly and now the hair around the tail is starting to grow back.
I really can’t thank them enough for their level of care, especially knowing how naughty Smokey can be sometimes. He really did take to the staff pretty quickly all things considered. I hope we don’t have to come back, but if we do, I would like the same exact evening shift team. Y’all are machines. Thank you for taking care of my boy. I added a photo from today. You can’t even see the scar really.

VEG and their wonderful veterinarians and staff saved our dear senior hound's life. After complications from dental extractions, our girl spent three nights in-patient and went from near death to her old self again. I'm so grateful for VEG's skill and compassion. Great communication and transparency. I'm forever grateful and will be back if ever we need emergency veterinary help again.

Can't say enough great things about VEG. They are extremely patient/family-centered. They let you stay with your pet the entire time. We've used them several times in emergency situations, and even when busy, they are very communicative, helpful, and efficient. They were beyond compassionate when we had to put our dog down, and we couldn't be more appreciative. We brought our new dog in recently, and were again extremely pleased with the experience. So glad to have this great addition to the emergency vets in the DC area!
