I'll admit, my dog is my pride and joy, but when my regular vet quoted a price of 700-900 for a simple neuter, my jaw dropped. A surgery I know as a prior vet tech to take only a few minutes. I was nervous and skeptical to take him to the Humane Society for a much more affordable neuter. I pictured a horrendous event in my own mind due to the desensitization of sheer number of procedures.Neutering also was not my choice due to it's negative impacts on a dogs extended health, longevity, and systemic impacts. But since every puppy care and dog sport facility forces it for their own convenience, I knew I had no choice. But honestly, the experience has been a good one, considering my unwillingness. They were friendly, and at least in my view, caring. They used a scrotal incision rather than the pre-scrotal which seems to be both less stressful and quicker to heal for my pup. We're 4 days post op and things are well. He's back to his normal self and his surgery site looks clean and well on it's way to healed.

They did my dogs neutere. They did a great job. But one young lady in the front was so very unhelpful. However the other lady that was there , was very nice ,and knowledgeable. Need more like her.

I recently had 4 cats fixed here and everything was superb!! They really cared for my animals. 3 spays and 1 neuter. The incisions are healing without an issue. They even called the next morning to check in on them! I only had to wait 2 weeks for an appt, which is short compared to everything else around! I feel relief not having 3 cats in heat every couple of weeks and keeping them separated from the male!! Thank you!!! I will be making an appt for my doggo next!

If you come to Chincoteague and miss staying at the Channel Bass Inn, you have really missed out. The lodgings are lovely. Many Antiques and beautiful English China. The food is spectacular. Breakfasts are a must. The main attraction is really the hospitality. Both Barbara and David go well out of their way to make sure your stay is comfortable. We chose them because they are pet friendly and believe me they are. They doted on our new rescue, Layla. We enjoyed shopping, kayaking and biking on the island. We will certainly be back.

I adopted our new kitty, Harry from the Chesapeake Humane Society 5/22/19. Everyone was just terrific and friendly. We were able to go back and hang out with the kitties and interact with them while we were introduced to our Harry. The animals all looked happy and well taken care of. When I first moved to Virginia I was looking to adopt another cat and gave the Chesapeake Humane Society a try! The experience was phenomenal! The room that the cats are in allows you to interact with them and get to know them before making a decision. After successfully adopting one we ended up adopting another from them a year later. We even went on to foster through CHS which was a fantastic experience in itself! I highly recommend coming here if you are looking to adopt or if you are interested in fostering! I added pictures of my two babies formerly known as Lyric and Salazar, thank you to the fosters that took care of them until they came to their forever home!

My dog Maximus saw Dr Bagg today for his vaccines, bloodwork, and exam. While he's been going there all of his life, this was the first time he'd met most of the new staff. He was very happy to see everyone and they were great with him. He's been known to not the easiest to work with, but he took it all in stride today, never growled once. Stray cat that I've been feeding since winter...itself a kitten.It had a litter of 5. The took the rescued kittens and assured me that the kittens would be adopted. The people at military hwy were great in receiving and documenting while examining the litter. It's a worthwhile service provided to Chesapeake citizens as a lot of irresponsible people do not provide food and shelter for pets they think are cute while totally disregarding the needs of animals. GOOD JOB CHESAPEAKE.

OMG!!!! I am crying as I type this message. They are amazing here!!!! These are tears of joy right now!!! My 1 year old Shi Tzu was diagnosed with pyrometra by an emergency vet facility at 9 am… they told me That she needed emergency surgery in order to survive because the infection was extremely bad. This was after I had already paid them $800 for the visit, bloodwork and an exam. I called Chesapeake Humane Society…Beth answered the phone and was amazing, she was a breath of fresh air. I was extremely upset you could barely understand me because I was crying hysterically because I thought I was about to lose my baby. I explained to Beth what was going on and told her that if my dog did not get spayed she would die. Beth talk to the doctor and they were able to get me right in!! they told me to bring her right now. We got there at about noon I just received a call at 1:30 that my dog is out of surgery and is doing amazing! I literally cannot hold my tears of happiness back I broke down again on the phone with Beth and thanked them so much!!! I am forever grateful for the team at Chesapeake Humane Society!

Their staff is undoubtedly professional, yet they know how to make you feel comfortable when talking about major surgeries your fur babies are going through. Their prices are affordable, and the pet care was amazing. Nothing but great things from them, they even called the next day to make sure the pets were doing okay.

We utilize the vaccine clinics here and the staff is just amazing. Friendly!!! Appointment is required with Covid restrictions in place. They picked up my pups from the car, took them in and brought them back out to me. The pups were happy, my wallet was happy. Win, win.

Our dog got spayed at the Chesapeake humane society last week and it went great. The staff were nice and reassuring. Her incision is healing well. But, A few days ago she came down with a cough, took her to the vet and turns out she has kennel cough. Assuming she picked it up here as she has not been out since way before her spay. Now all of our animals in the house have kennel cough. Cheers to another $200+ in vet bills and medicine!

My corgi had surgery and extensive dental work done here and I couldn't be more pleased. The doctor and her staff are doing exceptional work and I am grateful for how they took care of my Buddy. Lastly and also important to mention is that their prices for services are significantly lower than all of the local veterinary businesses.

Last week I had the Good fortune of taking my Maltese to the Humane Society Clinic for a dental cleaning. From the first encounter I knew I was a Place that loved animals. The Place was spotless, and smelled fresh as a Daisy even with the free coming cat room. They took my little Guy back to surgery at 7:30 am and I had him back at 11:15 am. He had dad an extraction and they had even given him pain meds. The front Desk folks are so pleasant and welcoming they put me at ease right away. The day after the cleaning they even called to check on my Boy. I don't know what more any one could ask. I am so grateful that they offer quality care at a reasonable price as I am on a fixed income. Thank you Doesn't seem to be enough to say for their excellent care. I don't know where some of these people are going but it certainly is not this Humane Society. Thanks again for every thing to those who cared for Stanley.

It’s great they offer low cost vaccines, but they should really allow you to go back with your pets while they receive the vaccines. Most animals will feel anxiety and be scared going into a strange room without their owner... My dog did not want to follow the vet tech and then was scared once the restrained him and their response was to charge me an added $20 aggressive dog fee. Ive never had issues with my dog if I go to the exam room with him. They lack compassion and understanding for the dogs individual needs.

They take excellent care of the animals. Mine went in for a dental cleaning this morning. They ran blood work prior to sedation and found elevated liver enzymes. Their going to do further testing prior to doing the procedure and will update me on her condition. I had no clue, checked into symptoms of this, she hasn't displayed any of them. She's just a 7 year old pitbull, .very friendly and playful. I appreciate the care they take and for being kept in the loop of her progress throughout the day.

I have been coming here for years with many different dogs. The customer service is amazing and the vet techs/vet are wonderful. I have had three rescues over 15 years and they have received excellent care from day one. I read the other reviews and I understand their concerns about not being able to go back with their dogs when they are treated. That would be nice and at a regular vet where space is at a premium and you pay more to have that space singled out for you it is made available but in a setting where the entire city is being serviced it is not feasible to accommodate each owner and their emotional needs while providing a community service. The Vet Techs do try to reassure you. I know because I am a helicopter Pet Mom - Yup that's me. The services are amazing and the Vets that volunteer their time are tops in the HR area. Please come and use theur services and maybe contribute a few extra dollars to help a animal buddy receive medical treatment. Much Love!!!

Had dog & cats spayed/neutered & vaccinated there. Staff is nice & they keep it clean. They have seating outside & inside. A big potty area & a doggy doo clean up station. My only complaint, which isn't really on them, but the grass had a lot of stickers in it that hurt my puppy's tender paws one time, so just be careful of that.

We adopted our dog from a rural animal control facility. They do not vaccinate or spay/neuter before adopting pets out. A friend of mine referred me to the care clinic. She had her barn cats spayed/neutered. The clinic has been great. The front desk staff are friendly and helpful. I had a surgical appointment within a week, the check in process was smooth, the surgical update and check out were just as easy. I am glad the clinic was available so that I may rescue a pet from a shelter, be a responsible pet owner and save a few dollars in the process. I recommend them to everyone!

Have had several pets spayed/neutered at the humane society. They are phenomenal! Despite the wait to get an appointment sometimes, once you drove off your pet to be treated, they are kind, patient and very kind! Highly recommended !

Super nice people. Went there to adopt a cat named snookems (now named gracie), after losing our 17yr old cat. Talked me right in to adopting a unique orange cat with a black spot on her head (now named chloe) since they were apparently friends. Real glad we did, they are great cats, well behaved, yet playful. Their cat room i very well maintained, clean, and the cats look very well cared for. As you can see from the pics, these 2 are quite at home here lol. Gave me a free xtra cat carrier, since we had only planned to get the grey one, to take the orange one, some xtra food as well. Highly recommend this place.

This facility is an amazing place with a tremendous staff and unbeatable prices. We have had all of our pets treated here including vaccines, spaying/neutering and micro-chipping. If you don't mind waiting in line for vaccines, the price and the care provided can't be beat.

Whispers of our Forgotten Animal Rescue

Our rescue has been using Chesapeake Humane Society for all our spay/neuter/microchip/hernia repair/dental. As you can imagine, we have entire litters going in at once sometimes and the staff is always friendly, knowledgeable and work hard to get the animals in on a timely basis. In at 7:30 and we have been called as early as 11am to pick up our animals at 12:00 noon. We have never been treated with anything but respect and we have never seen an unhappy pet owner either. We have many choices of where we could take our animals and even though we are based out of North Carolina, we drive the 45 minutes because we trust Chesapeake Humane Society with our animals. We wholeheartedly recommend CHS to our family, friends and adopters and we take our own personal pets to them as well. If you care about the health and welfare of your animal(s), get your spay/neuter/microchip/dental and hernia repairs done by them. Need heart worm/flea/tick/parasite medications? They have them there. Need shots? Try one of their clinics. I know they have them on Friday and Saturdays for sure and possibly other days as well. Simply go online and check out their schedule. We won't ever go anywhere else.

Love this place, they always take care of my dog like their own. Very professional and helpful. Although there was a boxer who kept growling and attacking dogs (3) they shouldve handled it and done something about it. My dog has been a victim to it and its no joke. They should def be more strict when it comes to that. But would recommend this place to anyone! Just get there early!

Visited this facility back in January. Very accommodating staff. Very clean and no urine smell from litterboxes. Unfortunately did not see a specific cat that was on my checklist even though the were in a colony room it was play friendly for the cats. Will go back again.

The staff was very friendly, the place itself was clean and it looked like they had a good handle on new customers coming in with their animals. A few downsides were that the wait is incredibly long for vaccines because of the amount of people that come in during fridays and saturdays for walk ins. I was willing to wait the 2 1/2 hours for my cat to be seen. This location is very dog friendly but not cat friendly at all. My cat was in a small carrier for the entire 2 1/2 hours and was constantly being sniffed and prodded at by curious dogs. He was patient at first but as time wore on the cat became anxious. Our cat was called back and a few minutes later the woman handling the animals told us that she was unable to get our cat the vaccine only because she was unable to coax him out of the cage and he was scared and scratching. I think this situation could have been handled better, we werent even able to help because we werent allowed in the back. For this long of a wait, I think the staff could have tried harder or allowed us to help with the cat. Hes very calm and well mannered and was only upset because of the long wait and noises.

Chesapeake Humane Society is just absolutely amazing. The staff and vets there are so helpful, patient, and loving. The rates they offer for care and products are unbelievable. My fur babies have been seen there since they were pups and kittens. The building is clean, the mobile center is convenient, and the prices are so affordable. Chesapeake Humane Society has nothing, but wonderful praises from our family. Thank yall so much!!!

They were able to schedule my cats appointment to get a rabies vaccine and while there they also brushed out my cats matted hair that I couldn't get out. Reasonable price. $20 appointment and $20 for the vaccine

My puppy was spayed today at CHS. I have lived in Chesapeake for 15 years and have always been appreciative of the work done by the Chesapeake Humane Society. The staff is caring and works hard to offer affordable services to pet owners in our community. As of today, CHS has spayed four dogs and a cat in 15 years. Brought my 4.5 month old pup, Delta, here to be spayed and I have to say I was very pleased! The staff was so kind to her and when we returned to pick her up post-op, she walked out with tail wagging. The incision is small, clean, and there's no redness or swelling at all. A day later, Delta is her regular spunky self and shows no signs of being in surgery the day before. Not sure who these other negative Nancy's leaving bad reviews are but I was 100% satisfied & impressed with my experience at CHS! Thanks to everyone who made our Delta's hospital/surgery experience as stress-less a possible. :)

Very helpful. Very nice. My cat and dog have both been spade (spaded? Spadddeddd??) Here. Both had extremely easy recoveries, with zero complications. Neither animal even seemed to notice their scar/wound.

The only problem was we called them after we left and no one answered the phone for over 2 hours and then when they opened back up we never got a call returning our voicemail until almost three days later. We ended up finding a cat from another shelter that worked well with our family due to lack of response.

Adopted Emily our Aussie from here they were very nice and had the animals best care in mind! As far as kill shelters it's a part of life due to overbreeding and people "$buying" their accessories not pets! Vets can be expensive and this clinic has made it possible to keep our daughter UTD on shots and care. Which we have adopted all pets be it a stray or a love buddy from the humane society! They are helping all they can!!

I took my friend Kathy there to see if they could help her service dog but they referred her to some other vets in the area. He needed things done that they couldn't do there. I went there years ago to have my puppy spayed and micro chopped. You have to make appointment because of the virus.
