Doctors Townsend and O’Grady and their staff have taken care of my dogs from their first vet visits as puppies, to their final visits to cross the rainbow bridge. 14 years of visits, and every last one a positive experience. Barbour Lane has been nothing but fantastic caring for Moose and making us feel informed and reassured any time he is in their care. They have worked him in when appointments are all booked. Makayla and Dr. Townsend were so good to my cat. Dr. Townsend quickly diagnosed him with a flea allergy. After a couple of shots and a flea treatment, my fur baby is well on his way to recovery. I’ve been going to Dr Townsend for thirty years. He and the staff at Barbour Lane Animal hospital truly care about your pet. We recently used their groomer for a sweet doggie we rescued. Mickey was all smiles after his spa day. Dr Townsend even checked how Mickey was doing on his new eye drops. Don’t get me wrong. I’m generally pleased with this practice. Sophie’s appt on Friday seemed rushed with very little time with Dr Townsend. Negative results on T3 and urinalysis were my expectations and turned out to be very expensive. Unless she shows symptoms or decline, the next appointment will just be for routine exam and rabies shot. By the way, I would prefer to personally see the rabies injection. Thanks for asking

We are here from out of town. Our dog was not feeling well, for a week. I called, and they were able to get us in that day ( on a holiday weekend) no less! I was extremely happy with the staff ! They did a wonderful job to make our dog feel better.

UPDATE (2022): In the interim between reviews we sadly lost one kitty. They were super kind throughout & it was reinforcement that this was a great vet clinic. Both vets are great & seem highly invested in our pets health. Highly, highly, *highly* recommend. :) (2018): We're new in town and Barbour Lane Animal Hospital made the transition easy. They filled our pup's prescription without us even being patients there yet, handling all the details of calling our previous vet to get the Rx, etc. (And the price of the meds was nearly HALF of what we paid at our old vet!!) Because of that experience I decided to take our kitty in to address some behavioral issues. The doctor (can't recall her name) was very attentive, asked lots of questions, and didn't immediately jump to medicating our kitty, instead suggesting several environmental and homopathic interventions. Only after confirming that we had tried all the non-medication techniques did she suggest trying an ssri, but only after confirming that there wasn't an underlying problem by doing bloodwork. Excellent care. We 3 other pets and will definitely be using this as our vet!

They were able to get my fur baby in quickly, diagnosed her and sent her home with the medications she needed. She’s now on her way to recovering at home. The whole team was very nice and professional. I will definitely be coming back.

Originally took my senior cat to am emergency vet they wanted $5000 for surgery to save our fur baby's life contacted barbour lane as a new client he agreed to see our senior cat and preform the life saving surgery the same day last minute for $2000 which included all medications afterwards and 4 follow up visits 2 of which she required even more medication and never asked for another penny. Ofcourse we had to pay only half upfront the rest when she was ready to be picked up. The vet was professional but also took the time to explain things and came across very nurturing toword our cat. he truly saved her life that day. Even though its a bit of a drive for us from home this will be who we use for all our animals going forward. Highly recommend giving them a try they arent a franchise, individually owned and seem to genuinely care for the animals they treat while offering reassurance to the pets owners in a stressful and emotional time. the staff there is also friendly and very helpful as well.

Both the tech and vet were both caring and patient with Gumbo. Even though they were busy they tried to get Gumbo as comfortable as Possible. Gumbo Has a hematoma on her left ear that they drained to provide relief until they could Do surgery on Tuesday.

We use to live near Barbour Lane Animal Hospital and since leaving the area we have not been able to find a place we feel comfortable with leaving our precious boxer/mix whos a rescue we adopted some years ago. We are very protective about where we board him because we know him so well, he lets us know that this hospital took great care of him the five days we were away. My family has been going to Barbour Lane for 20+ years. Both vets are excellent, but we especially love Dr. Townsend and appreciate his ability get to the root of the issue quickly and confidently. While they may be a little pricier than other vets I’ve used in the past, when you factor in the necessity for less visits due to accurately diagnosing issue the first time, I’m sure we’re actually saving money. They’ve saved the lives of my dogs in surgery and they’ve been there to gently ease the passing of my seniors at the end. I couldn’t imagine trusting my four-legged family to anyone else.

Currently, we have a 14 1/2 year old Golden REtriever that I believe would not be with us unless the expert care she is receiving. We have also lost several pets and the caring way we were all treated made the situation easier even though I hated the outcome. I have recommended BLAH to everyone! Dr O’Grady and Dr Townsend are wonderful! They been my vet for all my fur babies for over 25 years. I was there this week with Lucy who is 14 years old and woke up hardly able to walk. Dr O’Grady took her time to figure out where Lucy’s pain was coming from and it wasn’t an easy task as Lucy is a very stoic dog and wouldn’t give Dr O’Grady any signs of discomfort. I’m so grateful that Dr O’Grady didn’t give up and found that it was Lucy’s neck that was causing her the pain. Anti inflammatory prescription and rest has been a Godsend and Lucy is doing great! Thank you for taking time to care for all my fur babies over the years ❤️

This establishment has always been available for all of my fur baby’s needs. Especially, if you need something last minute. They saved my dog’s life when he got into my medicine and ingested a few muscles relaxers. He was literally getting cold, almost leaving this world. I rushed him up there and they saved his life. I moved here from near Chicago and went based on a recommendation from the owner of Poe’s Pet Depot and have never been disappointed in the 7 years I have been going here! After review owner reached out directly to apologize and confirm that they have discussed with staff to ensure this situation is rectified. Also, the other groomer hurt my dog and Barbour Lane Animal Hospital gracefully worked him in on Saturday when there were not any open appointments. They took great care of him and both the drop off and pick up went smoothly and quickly. It was clear that they heard my concern and made an effort to address it....following is the original review: So they called on Saturday making sure we were coming on Monday morning. No problem. I arrived at 8:08 and called. I am in spot 5. After 30 minutes of them taking pets that arrived after me I left. 8:38. I had two employees look out and see me and just went back inside. If I were the owner I would be embarrassed. When your business is not unique, all you have is customer service. I have an appointment elsewhere on Wednesday.

We brought in a cat that we presumed was abandoned after he began showing up around our home a couple months ago. We were able to capture him one morning, and the staff at Barbour Lane Animal Hospital graciously worked us in without an appointment to get him checked out immediately. Dr. O’Grady, along with VetTech Allison checked him over and gave him the appropriate treatments and vaccinations. Everyone was kind, courteous and professional. We really appreciate the care and concern shown for both us and the cat, who now has a better chance for a long and happy life as someone’s loving pet in sharp contrast to the life he was facing on his own as a feral.

She went from being 2 miles from my home , to being 17 miles but I would follow her anywhere and that’s what I did. My parents take their dog to Barbour Lane Animal Hospital - and so, when I had an issue with my cat and was concerned whether I needed to bring her in, I called Barbour Lane Animal Hospital. Dr. Townsend actually got on the phone to speak with me about my concerns! He was kind, helpful and informed. I am NOT their customer and have never paid them a dollar, yet he was willing to advise me on the issue with my cat. As a matter of fact, I moved to the highlands for a decade but could not find a vet that made me feel as confident so, I was very willing to drive the extra miles to see them. The staff have been a strong support to Drs O’Grady and Townsend. They go out of their way in helping me provide a healthy environment for my dogs. I've been taking animals here for a little over ten years. They have an immense love for the animals that come into their care. Both Dr. O'Grady and Dr. Townsend are extremely good vets. I've been to other vets all over Louisville over time with others for their pets as well as emergency situations and each time I regretted not going back to Barbour lane. We live in Fairdale now and drive to the east end to have our pets seen by them. The staff is very nice as well and you can tell everyone there loves their job and wants to be there helping animals. I took our GSD Luna to Barbour Lane for X-Rays of her hips and elbows for OFA evaluation. This requires particularly precise positioning in order to get proper alignment of the hips, etc. Dr. Townsend and his team produced excellent radiographs with perfect positioning. I will be recommending Barbour Lane to our Dog Sport Club members as well as all IGP clubs and kennels. To those of you who are wanting/needing Hip and Elbow evaluations from OFA, you know how important it is to find the right Vet who takes the time to understand the requirements of the OFA and how important the positioning is to determine an accurate evaluation. We will not Breed our GSD if she does not have good hips. It's all about improving the breed.

They are fantastic. At 5:30pm today, I called Barbour Ln Animal Hospital about an emergency issue with my dog. I've never been there, no appointment and they said to come in. Within 15 minutes of arrival they recommended to operate on my dog. This is also one hour before they close. So at 7pm they are done with the operation, but due to the anesthesia my dog couldn't walk. So the vet and staff stayed and hour after closing to make sure our dog was ok and helped load him into the car. Extremely helpful, reasonably priced and would recommend them to anyone. We're new in town and Barbour Lane Animal Hospital made the transition easy. They filled our pup's prescription without us even being patients there yet, handling all the details of calling our previous vet to get the Rx, etc. (And the price of the meds was nearly HALF of what we paid at our old vet!!) Because of that experience I decided to take our kitty in to address some behavioral issues. The doctor (can't recall her name) was very attentive, asked lots of questions, and didn't immediately jump to medicating our kitty, instead suggesting several environmental and homopathic interventions. Only after confirming that we had tried all the non-medication techniques did she suggest trying an ssri, but only after confirming that there wasn't an underlying problem by doing bloodwork. Excellent care. We 3 other pets and will definitely be using this as our vet!
