Amazing staff and service. Our poor pup got neutered in the morning and then rubbed his stitches on the ground, causing some bleeding. We went to the VCA emergency room at 7:30pm and were immediately taken care of. The vet techs took great care of my dog and made him feel comfortable (even though he had a traumatizing day). We got peace of mind and poor Harlan at least got some treats and love from the staff!

I cant say enough about my experience at Veterinary Specialists emergency hospital. My dog was hospitalized there for 3 days with a very serious illness. Every single person I was in contact with throughout that time both by phone and in person was kind, compassionate, professional and knowledgeable. Although my Jake is gone, I am comforted knowing that everyone who cared for him in his last days was kind and gentle and truly cared about him. Thank you so much 💗💗💗

Our Husky got out last night and when we found her she unfortunately got tangled up with a porcupine. It was awful. My Husband brought her at 4am, they were friendly, compassionate and very informative. Our dog had to be sedated for the quills to be removed and prescribed antibiotics. It was quick and we thought the bill would break us. But it was affordable, especially considering it is an ER! If anything ever were to happen to your pet, don’t hesitate to bring them here.

The most compassionate and caring staff I have seen. They give you all the time you need with your pet after the difficult decision of euthanizing. They listen to your concerns and show respect during the whole process while speaking so sweetly to your fur baby. I will continue to use them in the future for my veterinary needs 100%.

Had an amazing visit with Dr Schwartz and Nick earlier today. They did a great job keeping dog calm, and a fantastic job bandaging her up. They took the time to make sure I understood everything and that Maple was truly cared for. I'd highly recommend you go here!

I am so thankful for West Hartford VCA Emergency vet service. We just had an incident with our cat this weekend and he had a pretty bad infection on his tail and I discovered it on Saturday night and felt my only option was to go to the emergency veterinarian. Our town’s only emergency 24-hour vet closed last year so I needed to find another. It was a long wait (which they advised me beforehand) but my cat was examined and treated, the news was better than I had anticipated, and they sent me home with recommendations and all the necessary medicines. He’s doing well and healing up. The staff was really kind and caring with our cat and with me. I would highly recommend this veterinary service. As with any emergency room, be aware that you may have a long wait time. They work hard and what they do means so much. I’m so grateful for everything they do to care for our pets.

I came here to write about my own personal experience, but now that I have read the reviews before mine, I believe I need to state that the review previous to mine made by a young girl named Klaudia is incorrect. I was in the waiting room while her and a young man came in, loudly, proclaiming their dog had ingested a tampon. The waiting room at this ER was nice and quiet, however this couple made sure all eyes were on them. The staff immediately came out to look at their dog, which looked to be fine and alert, and explained they would be giving it a medication to induce vomiting. They took the dog and about 30 min later came out to let them know they dog had purged the item and was doing well. The rude man then starts to try and be clever and ask if they will have to wait 3 hours to get their dog. The staff member says they need to monitor the dog for side effects and do the discharge paperwork, and then they can leave. While waiting, the couple seems to be blind to the dog that came in unable to breathe, the dog that had to be wheeled in on a stretcher, the dog which was experiencing seizures, and a dog that was bleeding while being swiftly taken into the back with a stab wound. They began to berate the staff for taking too long, all while all of these extreme emergency cases walked right by them. Demanding the doctor stop caring for the severe emergency cases because they wanted to be on their way. They sat in that waiting room laughing, giggling, taking selfies, insulting the staff, without any concern for anyone else but themselves. I hope this couple never had to sit in an ER waiting for news on their dog, hoping they don't have make a hard decision, while an entitled couple laugh and berate the staff who is working to save lives.

Took my 5 month old puppy to the ER last night. Can’t say enough about how kind everyone there was! From Matthew who took my initial call, to the women who checked me in to the Tech, Judith, everyone was extremely helpful and compassionate. Thank you Vet Specialists!

Brought my 5 month old tuxedo kitty Luigi in on Dec 31st because he wasn't eating and drinking. Staff was wonderful and very compassionate and immediately found he was suffering from an intestinal parasite causing the issue. After a sub q injection of fluids, anti neusea injection and oral meds for 5 days, my Luigi is back to his normal playful self eating, drinking, playing and wanting all kinds of snuggles! Oh and he's back to chasing around his brother and sister too! Thank you so much for taking such good care of my baby!

Such a nice place they are very passionate and compassionate there. We just had to put my cat down. The whole time they were there for us walking us step through step and they let you take your time with the animal. I have nothing but complements for them. I think everyone should use this hosptial

VCA saved our dog’s life. Within an hour I was able to bring our Dane in , have X-rays done and a diagnosis. She received around the clock care and we were able to feel better because they gave us frequent updates without even asking. I actually have a veterinary office across the street from my house and called them begging and crying for help as my husband was out of town and I can only transport our dog in his truck. They turned me away. Thank God someone gave me VCA’s number. They did not hesitate and with that they saved our 2 year olds life. Everyone there is a super star. All the front desk crew ,all of the techs, Dr. Jennetti , Malcolm . Their confidence and care is unsurpassed. I could never put a dollar sign on our dogs life - anyone who is leaving poor reviews saying they are expensive is ridiculous-you get what you pay for and VCA is top tier care .

This is the most wonderful place anyone could take their pet! I consulted with Dr. Kenneth Knaak on recommendation from another pet owner and I couldn't be more grateful to her for sending me in this direction. Dr. Knaak and the entire staff I dealt with are highly knowledgeable -- but of equal importance, the care and compassion they show to both my family dog as well as me as the owner is something I have not experienced in a very long time. With a beloved pet who is like family, the "curbside drop off" I had experienced prior to going to Dr. Knaak the last few months was very difficult. Not here, first a highly qualified assistant came out with her records and took a comprehensive intake of all my concerns and chatted with me on them, then Dr. Knaak HIMSELF came out to my vehicle to discuss his concerns about my golden retriever's condition, confirm the diagnosis and explain the likely prognosis. He suggested the least invasive diagnostics to keep the pet from undergoing unnecessary testing. The minute I met Dr. Knaak, I could tell from his eyes that he didn't want to deliver the news to me about Lexi's situation. He was complimentary about how well I had been managing her megaesophagus for the past 6 weeks and gave me guidance on how to continue to care for my pet to keep her comfortable during this final chapter in her life. He even walked Lexi out to the car - not an assistant. If you need top notch care and compassion, don't go any further. This is the place you need to be. Dr. Knaak is the "Marcus Welby" of Pet Doctors in my opinion. Thank you all for your kindness and professionalism...

I have never in my life been so moved by the loving care I was given at this hospital and especially Dr Norkus. My baby got sick and had to be put down in a matter of 24 hours. I was hysterical. They rushed her inside and took the best care for her comfort and with me. I was given plenty of time alone with my Lucy to say goodbye. He was so loving and caring as well as the rest of the staff. I was absolutely devastated and they were the only one's to send me a sympathy card! Hand written! If your fur baby is sick or is at the end of their life, this is where you want to bring them! THANK YOU Dr. Norkus and everyone else there who handled us with such care!!!

Dr Uman and every one else in the Emergency Department are amazing , I had a very sick dog(Echo) and was traveling the next day, had to leave her in the hospital the night before I left, they took care of her and Dr Uman took all my calls while I was away, making sure both Echo and myself were ok, just the best people!!! thank you guys!!!

I was so pleased to have found VCA Veterinary Specialists of CT! I took my cat to see them a few weeks ago and he was properly diagnosed. I was kept abreast of any possible procedures and costs associated with getting to the cause of his issue, and fortunately it turned out to not be a huge issue. I was educated on what I could do if the problem ever arose again and prevention. I saw that they take most urgent cases first, which is what should happen. They post this on their door and it is nice to know that if I ever do have a bigger problem, that my cat will be bumped up in order. Dr. Yelton and Stacey were terrific and patiently answered my questions. Thank you for a great experience, for getting my cat back to normal quickly, and for your followup phone call.

Everyone here was so nice and did everything they could to make the process of emergency pet care as fast as possible which is so impressive given that pet hospitals are being faced with such high patient volumes. Dr. Usechak is AWESOME!! SO smart and kind! He took the time to lay all of the options for our pup's care and explained them so well so we could make informed choices. He was even able to describe primary literature off the top of his head to explain the efficacy behind a treatment modality - which is a great way to make a pharmacist love you 😁 So thankful for the care we received here!

Our huskimo Beau punctured a battery, so we called the Veterinary Specialist of CT. They told us to bring him in to be checked out. The vet tech Sue who had 30+ years of pet treatment experience came out to the waiting room to give him a quick check. After preliminary analysis she told us there were no visible burns,so the veterinarian visit was unnecessary. She saved us $125. Amazing service!!

So impressed with Dr. Muro and the staff at VCA in West Hartford. She explained everything to me slowly, allowed me to ask questions and then answered it again a couple days later after the shock wore off. All the time, being patient and understanding my reaction to the news. When I made the decision to have my dogs toe amputated, we were scared. Not sure if he would be able to walk on that foot without pain. They did an amazing job! He came out of the vets happy...his toe was cut off, yes on meds but he was my happy dog. Not once, in the two weeks did he yelp in pain from his surgery. We did what we were asked...no jumping, keep foot dry etc. He went back to have the stitches out and it took only 5 minutes. His surgical site looks amazing. He is doing great. Thank you to the staff at VCA in West Hartford. Thank you Dr. Muro for being sensitive and patient and for loving my dog as much as I do.

I had to bring my pug to the ER this past Friday for issues with breathing. While I understand how some people can get frustrated when they have to wait at the ER, there is a sign right out front with the triage process. I was so grateful that they have this in place because my pug was having issues breathing and needed to be seen asap, which is exactly what they did for us. My pug had issues a few years ago and I brought him here for a second opinion and ended up having them do the surgery. I immediately switched everything from our prior vet over to this group because of how amazing they were/are. The service provided at this vet is phenomenal. It is so obvious how much they truly love every animal that comes in, but they treat every human that comes with the animal with nothing but respect and compassion. I am so grateful for everything the entire team does there and cannot speak more highly of every person there. If you want the comfort of knowing your fur baby is in the best care possible, bring them to CT Vet Specialists!

Wow! I walked in through a referral for an orthopedic surgeon consult fully expecting to only be offered an expensive all out solution. Instead, I met with a Dr who listened, fully explained everything that was going on in terms I understood, and was cognizant of the expense then gave me options to care for my dog that were reasonable. It was obvious she cared for my dog's well being as well as how that affects me. She took the time to provide an itemized quote for all options and explained each one clearly. I highly recommend this practice.

Waited 8 hours (!!!) to be seen. Why give them 5 stars, then? Because they triage their emergency visits. That means my cat (who was sick, but absolutely not in danger of dying) kept being pushed to the back of the line. In the meantime, three other pet owners came in with dogs that had to be euthanized. Folks with sicker pets went first. I went from being ticked off at spending a full night waiting for my turn, to being awed by the compassion and professionalism shown to those who needed more than Archie (my beloved and VERY dumb orange cat) needed. I would never hesitate to use them in a genuine emergency, because I know I’d get the same straight-to-the-front-of-the-line care. When it finally was our turn, we were thanked profusely for waiting so long, and given excellent attention. Also, the hot cocoa in the waiting room is top notch. :)

I brought my 15 year old baby girl here. Her legs were failing and she could no longer get around. I knew it was time. The staff here were so kind with both me and my girl. It’s never easy saying goodbye to a loved animal. The entire team was exceptional and so compassionate when I had to bring my dog in to the emergency room and make the horrible decision to euthanize. They made sure that I was making an informed decision, and gave me as much time as I needed during his final moments. I picked up his ashes today and also received paw prints and some of his fur, and some seeds to plant in his memory. Their kindness and compassion are so so appreciated.

This place was amazing! We are from out of town and were visiting family 3 days after our puppy had gotten spayed. Our puppy ended up opening her incision and part of her omentum (covering over the intestines) was protruding through the incision. We called and they told us to come in right away. They were waiting for us when we arrived and took our puppy right back. Dr. Emily Harten was amazing, she came out and told us what her diagnosis was and ultimately the surgery that she would need. She answered all of our questions and concerns. She called us at 2:30am once our puppy came out of surgery and provided us as well with an update later in the morning. We were so lucky to have such a wonderful place and doctor to bring our puppy. Thank you VCA and Dr. Harten!

We recently had to go through a painful and sudden goodbye to our four year old pointer who died from aggressive lymphoma. He was such a wonderful member of the family whom we loved and cherished. From the emergency visit to his crossing over the rainbow bridge, he was treated with care, compassion and concern by the staff of the hospital. Dr. Knaak was wonderful. He cared about the pet and the people too.

Vet Spec has been wonderful for us. We brought our husky here for vomiting and they were with us every step of the way. Matt, Nicki, Stacy and the entire veterinary team bent over backwards to help us until the end. Dr. Knaak is a fantastic internal medicine doctor, he never gave up and made sure to take the time to talk to us about our pup. In the end, Vet Spec was extremely compassionate and helped us through the toughest decision we have ever had to make. They care deeply about your pet, deeply about their owners, knew me by car and first name, and will do everything they can to help. I can’t recommend Vet Spec enough, they were amazing to us. Thank you, Vet Spec, for everything you did and tried, for never giving up on us and helping us through every step; i cannot thank them enough. If I ever need something, I will return here but hopefully not too soon.

Our cat started presenting with signs of a urinary block and we were met with nothing but responsiveness and kindness from the staff. Unfortunately it was a block and our cat had to stay in hospital for 2 days to clear it. Now he has been home for about two weeks and is doing very well. The doctors we spoke with took the time to educate us about what happened and how to try to prevent future blocks. The staff also VERY patiently answered any questions I had (or status update requests) while our cat was in their hospital getting treatments. I had nothing but a good experience. Thank you for helping our Remy recover. We are so grateful. The staff was excellent.

Our dog met with a porcupine at 5am this morning. We tried one emergency vet that told us they aren’t taking any patients at this time. After calling Veterinary Specialists of CT’s emergency line, they let us know we could come down. We arrived at 6:10am, checked in and our boy was taken in by 6:20. The vet, Dr. Deborah Lindsay was very compassionate and took the time to explain everything to us that would be involved to have the quills removed. By 7am, she came out with an update that all went well and he is just waking up from the sedation. At 7:40am, we had our big boy back with us, still groggy from the sedation and pain meds, but doing well. We are grateful for the care and attention the entire staff took, especially Dr. Lindsay with the step by step updates and status checks. Knowing how busy all veterinary offices are, this facility and care team were excellent.

I called VCA at 530 AM on a Saturday because our dog was vomiting during the night. I spoke with Gina who was very kind, listened, and gave me some good preliminary advice. She told me to bring him in if it didn’t stop. It didn’t stop. We brought him in and were greeted by Jacob. He was kind and down to earth, and so good natured while cleaning up after our dog got sick 3 more times on their floor. We offered to clean it up, but he said that was part of his job and did it with a smile. Our dog was seen promptly by Dr. Norkus, who was warm, calm, professional, kind, and knowledgeable. We discussed the options and he kept us updated along the way. Given that it’s an animal hospital and it was a Saturday, I knew he was busy, yet he patiently answered my questions. Our beautiful baby is now back at home resting. I can’t say enough about the care he was given. I don’t often write reviews, but made it a priority to write this one. It’s upsetting when your baby is sick, and so comforting to interact with people who care. Thank you so much.

I came here in an emergency situation with my 11yr old beagle. The staff was friendly and made the experience as comfortable as possible during covid with me not being able to go inside, with my dog in critical condition. They were able to stabilize her and keep me updated as I sat in my car. Anytime I called in for an update I was able to get one and spoke to the actual vet most of the time. They called me multiple times with updates and any questions they had. They allowed me to see her in a side room where I was able to get a feel for how she was doing and talk to the vet about what my options were. My dog went from critical condition to almost 100% her normal self in about 24 hours. She did have to spend the night and I'm grateful with how well they treated her.

Last week I rushed my dog in because he was having non stop seizures. Unfortunately his heart gave out on the way there (only by a few minutes) . They tried to get it going again with CPR but could only get him into AFIB. They were very straight forward on my options and let me know either way he would not leave the hospital.I chose to let him go as living on life support just to live a few more days is cruel. They were very supportive of our loss and allowed us as much time as we needed saying goodbye. I picked up his ashes last night and they made me paw prints and even gave me a small container with his fur. Kindnesses during one of the hardest days of my life was greatly appreciated. I had to euthanize my beloved cat, Macduff, never thinking this would be the outcome of my visit...he had a very poor prognosis. I brought my 4 month old puppy to the ER after my regular vet didn't have a doctor on in the ER that night!! The puppy was having trouble breathing after getting something in her nose. The staff at this facility were incredible! Courteous, compassionate and professional every step of the way! We were so impressed with the quality of their services that we are considering leaving our current practice for theirs. I highly recommend them for not only your pet's care, but also for your peace of mind.

Brought my dog here on emergency. Yes, the wait times were a bit extended; but they were busy and there’s a technician shortage right now as well. They were friendly, efficient, and I have no complaints. No one wants to go to the ER, but if I need to go back they’re a good option.

I have always been happy with VCA in the past. But not this time, My dog has been inside there 10 1/2 hours. Other when I spoke to the doctor (6 1/2 hours) after my dog has been here, no one has called me ONCE. I have had to call myself. I am frustrated. I know there are emergencies. But I honestly feel like my dog is just not important nor am I.

The staff is amazing, my little puppy ate the squeaker out of a toy and I brought him in for help. The staff was so kind while I was so upset and was very thorough when explaining everything to me. I ended up having to leave my boy there over night and I felt like he was in really great hands. I called so many times to check up on him because I was so anxious but the staff never made me feel like I was calling too much, they continued to just explain to me how he was doing and answered all my questions. I felt like both doctors I dealt with were very experienced and truly loved the animals they were working with. I felt like he was being attended to, paid attention to and given love the entire time he was there and that my emotions were even being calmed when I talked to them. Last night I had to bring my ailing, older cat in as an emergency euthanasia. They were amazingly kind and caring during their multiple clients they were tending to. I had never used this emergency clinic prior and had such a favorable experience I am considering bringing my animals to their general practice. About a month ago I lost my 15 year old cat in a tragic accident. It was a sunday afternoon and I was alone when it happened. I googled emergency vets in the area and came across Veterinary specialists and called them, they were so understanding and said yes bring her here, come right in when you get here, so I somehow pulled myself together to transport her to them and they were so good. They took care of me immediately and gave me as much time as I needed to say goodbye to her. I literally do not know if I could have gotten through that day without their kindness. The fee I was charged for cremation was very reasonable, and when I picked up her remains I was so surprised at how nice it was with the vase, paw print, small bottle of her beautiful grey hair, and flower seeds to plant in remembrance. They also sent me a card, and notified my regular vet who also sent a card. I miss her to pieces, but am so thankful for the kindness they showed on that day and will recommend them for emergency services to anyone I know going forward.

Service was fast and friendly; much appreciated given that hubby and I were both frantic (I was also 41 weeks pregnant...). The consultation was in-depth and provided us with the right level of information, both clinical and financial, to a make our own decision about next steps. Just had the best experience ever at a veterinary hospital in our entire lives. Every time it’s stressful and worry about the expenses. They took us right in and Judith was the best person we dealt with EVER. She was absolutely amazing, knowledgeable and extremely helpful. This was a scary situation for our dog, while also during COVID and being 9 months pregnant and Judith made us feel calm and great the whole time and confident leaving. This place is out of the way for us but doesn’t matter from now on we will be going there in case of an emergency.

I brought my dog for an appointment this past saturday and was honestly impressed from start to finish, with a few employees even going above an beyond to help. When we arrived, we called the number on the sign in front of our parking spot and the check-in went very smoothly, they asked a few covid-related questions and double-checked why we were here. There was a bit of a wait before we received a call back from the technician Eric, but I expected a bit of a wait on a busy Saturday. Eric was thorough in asking questions about how Pepper was doing and what she needed done before he hung up and came out to the car to meet us and bring Pepper inside. I admit I was nervous at not being able to come in with her as I know even though she is sweet and loveable, my Pepper is a bit of a handful. When she was done they brought her right back outside to me. Dr. Damon came out to our car and went over everything that was done during the appointment and asked all of our questions. Unfortunately, my other dog, who was with us at the time, decided this would be a great time to have an accident in the car. Dr. Damon did not miss a beat and went to get me items to help clean the mess up. I also want to give a big shout out to the assistant, Lilly, who came out to help hold Pepper while my partner held my other dog and I cleaned the car. Lilly crouched down and quickly calmed my normally very excitable dog Pepper. She also helped by bringing in all of the dirty cleaning supplies when I was finished. I know that going to the vet can be stressful at any time, especially now when you can't go in with them anymore, yet I was very pleased as an owner to see how thorough, caring, and professional the staff at VCA Veterinary specialists was during my appointment. I cannot recommend them enough.

For one of the worst experiences of my life, they made it the best it could possibly be. I rescued my dog Cap (Cappuccino) who had to be brought to the vet within 24 hours of getting him. Unfortunately he had canine distemper, which is untreatable, and had to be euthanized 3 days later. Dr. Usechak and Dr. Gargamelli, as well as the rest of the staff, could not have been more pleasant, helpful and compassionate. They cried with me when I said goodbye to Cap. They followed up with me after he had passed. They sent me a card with personal notes from staff in it. The staff I spoke with on the phone and met with outside were very helpful and knowledgeable, I definitely felt very comfortable with my dog in their care. If your pet has fur, five stars. If it does not, like my ball pythons I had that recently passed, go to New Haven for urgent care. They do not have proper testing or equipment for diagnosing and treating serious illnesses. I may have been able to save them if the VCA was not listed as a "qualified" exotic animal care unit for reptiles. As far as your "fur-babies" go, five stars. They have a wonderful, committed staff that will take care of them as you would expect to be done.

We've been taking our dogs here for years. Every vet we've seen is great both in their knowledge and their patient care. Just wanted to update my review. We had to say goodbye to one of our fur babies about a month ago and the staff was excellent through the entire process. We opted to have our baby cremated and when her ashes were returned, there was a lovely paw print imprint included. About a week ago, our other fur baby went in for a wellness visit. She was incredibly nervous being there even though that's never the case. I'm guessing it was related to her losing her sister and us coming home smelling like the vet. Dr. Zee and her technician were great with her and worked around her nerves. They learned that we recently had to say goodbye to one fur baby and were genuinely compassionate about it. Just a few days later, in the mail, we received a handwritten note from them saying they were sorry for our loss. When I shared the note with my husband, he said, "See, that's the kind of vet I'd drive 30 miles for even if we moved." We really do love Vet Specs and the love and care our dogs always receive. Thank yall!

They had him back to us in 48hrs in great shape. Although expensive, they did save his life, hoping insurance can help us with that but overall a great experience!

They are very attentive to your pet and listen to everything you have to say even if you're upset. We brought our cat who was experiencing strange symptoms which later turned out to be nasal/brain lymphoma. The only complaint I have is that they couldn't do a head x-ray for him that night but I think that had more to do with him needing to be sedated for that. Overall they were excellent, not too pricey, and even though we didn't get a final diagnosis that night they helped us feel like we were doing something when our baby was in distress.

This is the second time I have been to Vet Specialists of CT. I live in NH at 2 different times my dogs had to have MRI's. I had checked from Maine to CT for costs. Vet Specialists by far were much more reasonable in costs. They were very quick to get me as both times it was an emergency. The front desk, vet techs and staff were all so wonderful, caring and compassionate. The vets are great, very good with both my dogs - gentle and caring. They did a great job with each exam and explained everything to me. Ken with MRI is goes out of his way to help you out. It was a little difficult trying to get an emergency MRI when coming from NH to CT. He worked with office staff to get me an appt right away. He explains everything and very caring about your situation. I lived closer they would be my veterinary clinic for all my pets. You will not be disappointed!!

We took our dog here on a Monday night with an ear hematoma and the wait time wasn’t bad considering the current situation with the pandemic. We only waited for about an hour and a half, and that was because our dog’s problem wasn’t too urgent (they take them in based on how urgent the problem is) and the receptionist called to check in about an hour into the wait. Dr Halley, Jordyn, and the rest of the VCA team did such a great job with communicating to us while our dog Lola was in the vet hospital, letting us know about how long it would take and what to expect, and they did an amazing job fixing up her ear which is currently healing now. They did a great job with explaining her medications, and letting us know everything that we needed before we took her home. Great job!!

The veterinary doctor there tried to save my best friends life but it was not to be. I gave them $ 4,000 dollars to start the surgery. The total bill was less and even in my grief they refused to give about $ 700.00 I had due. I told them to choke on it and left. One of the worst days of my life. The doctor was kind, understanding and did his upmost to save her life. The people who own the hospital are petty, greedy and cold. I will never forget nor forgive them what they put me through. The doctors get the 4 stars. Don't trust anyone else.

Dr. Uman and Nancy are the absolute best! They were both so understanding and caring throughout my baby boy Duke's sickness this Summer. Despite all our best efforts he wasn't able to beat it. Due to covid the wait time is a few hours but no different if you were to go to a emergency room. It was explained in detail why my dog lost his hearing. At 4:55 am in the morning, our 10 week old rambunctious playful pup decides he is going to chase our cat sliding on the hardwood floors into the couch leg. No big deal right? Except for the blood curdling SCREAMS of agony that then ensued. We hopped into the car & drove to the closest 24 hour emergency vet which was Veterinary Specialists of CT. They were WONDERFUL! Calm, caring, careful & very loving to our injured & scared pup. Come to find out, he had a greenstick fracture to his tibia which doesn't require surgery but a splint thankfully. I'm so thankful for them & the care my baby Percy received today! I have been to another 24 hour emergency vet years ago (CVC?) in West Hartford & my experience was NIGHT & DAY better at Veterinary Specialists. Cost wise, it was certainly not inexpensive to say the least but money simply doesn't matter when you have an animal in distress & pain & its hours before your regular vet opens - what matters is immediate, professional care in a clean & loving environment. That is exactly what I received & I could not be happier! Thanks guys!

The next night my cat was having trouble breathing and then I had to rush her to the Hospital side. They were absolutely amazing the staff is caring and kind. For pets who loathe going to the vet, Dr Furphy is EXCEPTIONAL. Other vets there are not, for whatever reason. Yes it is costly for pet care, but I think that's generally true of vets. You get what you pay for.... The staff out front work hard and have a huge demand from fur parents like myself and for the most part, handle it quite well.(I can be a handful.... Lol) Wait times have been better during COVID, in my opinion, than before COVID. Not sure why that's so, but it's a good thing. They are an efficient crew and I appreciate them.

I unfortunately had to bring my sweet boy in at the beginning of October. He had passed away during the night and this office was my open arms. They made paperwork very quick and efficient while we were able to say goodbye. It is now the end of January and they still had his baked little pawprint that I didn't know they took! In my opinion a busy practice with an emergency center for animals would have looked over the pawprint that had been there for MONTHS! So almost 4 months after we said our goodbyes I got to pick it up. They also gave me a tiny jar with some hair clippings inside which took me by absolute surprise! So grateful for the care and compassion of Dr. Yelton & Dr. Usechak. Nearly two years ago now, I had to bring my 7y/o German Shepherd, Sara, in for an emergency. A gentleman I’d later learn was Dr. Usechak actually held the door for me as I carried in my weak, barely-60lb girl and I knew the outlook wasn’t good. The staff at the reception desk that night triaged and took Sara back right away (she was yellow & couldn’t walk) and Dr. Yelton performed the necessary testing and confirmed what I had feared — despite aggressive treatment at her regular vet, she was in severe organ failure. I was prepared for this as her prognosis was guarded to begin with — sudden severe illness that had not responded to any treatment over the past 3-4 days. However, no one can prepare for this. Sara was treated with compassion by Dr. Yelton and the techs that night. I got a call update (no good news, but she was resting comfortably, which meant the world to me) before shift change. When Sara’s case was transferred to Dr. Usechak then next morning, I got the dreaded call that she was still not responding to treatment. I chose to euthanize her and was able to be present in a spacious but quiet room with a comfy quilt for my weak pup. I was given alone time to call Sara’s “dad” (who was working out of state) so he could say goodbye via video chat. I got a message from Dr. Usechak even weeks later, about some testing we’d decided to continue despite her passing, in an effort to understand what happened to her. I’d had one nagging question for him, which I called back with the intention to say “just let him know he can call whenever there is time. There is no rush.” He was available basically immediately. I am beyond grateful for what they provided me, and having a 24-hour facility I can trust is priceless. I hope I never again have to use an emergency service for a pet... but if I do, I will bring them here.

The receptionist on the other hand very cold piss poor hygiene , didn't acknowledge you, made it feel like we were intruding on her time, kind of rude when she spoke to you, with a place that has veterinarian specialist on the front of it you would think that they would be better receptionist included first impressions are very important .. so as for the vet we give it a B .... As for front-end service we give it an F . Never once said there's coffee or water while we waited for 3 hours as our dog was being treated never once did she lifts her head from the computer to acknowledge anything .. very disappointed 😠 1 * forfor custo service ... The pain was so severe that our primary care provider had recommended referral to a specialist, which is how we found Dr. March. When we first went to Dr. March, Will could not move without screaming in pain. Dr. March expertly and gently examined him, then patiently explained his diagnosis and treatment options. He never rushed, and never pushed us to make a decision we were uncomfortable with. It was clear that he obviously cared deeply about the outcome for our family member. We decided on a treatment plan we were all comfortable with. I am happy to report Will has made a full recovery! Dr. March has been there every step of the way, calling to check on him often, and is as happy as we are with the results! This place is the “Mayo Clinic” for animals! I spent 2 years and thousands of dollars with 4 other vets and hospitals and a neurologist in New York and Vermont, they all could not figure out what was wrong with my Dachshund. I got 3 different vague diagnoses that were not correct. Dr Muro at West Hartford VCA was so thorough. She did tests, consulted with specialists and did not stop until she found out what was wrong with my dog. Dr Muro and Dr Knack are SUPERSTARS. It was worth the 2 hour drive from NYC. And Ken the radiologist is amazing as well. I highly recommend this animal hospital with all my heart and soul.

I brought my cat (Vlad) here for a surgery a few months ago and surgeon Dr Janet Welch was awesome. My cat had presumably gotten hit by a car, and had a dislocated hind leg. The emergency vet I saw at a different vet had attempted to pop his leg back into his hip, but she concluded he would need surgery to fix it. I brought my cat into Veternary Specialists and Dr Welch examined him and exlained to me the surgery he would need. She was also very friendly and comforting. On the day of the surgery she called before, during, and immediately after surgery. It was great to be updated at those times as I was worried about my cat. The surgery went great and now my cat is perfectly healed, without even a limp. Thank you Dr Janet Welch

If we did not bring our dog in when we did he would have been paralyzed permanently. It is time to move on to a new veterinary practice. After just moving to the area we gave Vetspecs a try for six months. I will keep it simple and to the point - In my opinion the communication and personal touch aspects of this facility are not what we are used to for the care for our dog. I am not saying the veterinarians are not technically capable but the facility seems to be run on more of a corporate mindset with a high fee structure.

Dr. Gustafson (known as Dr. Gus) has been the best vet my dog has seen in a lifetime where he's had four or five? My dog is very, very old -- at least 17, maybe 18 -- and maybe nine months ago had a bad mouth infection (he's gotten too old to have teeth cleanings). I thought it was the end. My little dog was drooling blood and clearly in a bad way. Dr. Gus asked if he was still eating, and when I said yes, he said let's try an antibiotic shot. It cleared it right up, and he has had many good days since then, even running many days! I think many vets would have suggested it was time to put a 16 to 17 year old dog down. I highly recommend Dr. Gus.

Honest, competent staff. The majority of Veterinarians are Tufts educated. For serious pet ailments, this is the place to go. I was recommended by the Vernon VCA to come here for an overnight stay for my cat. The lab results came back negative meaning my cat recovered from his infection so I took my cat home the same day. I recommend this office to owners with pets in need of urgent care.

Dr. March is just a fantastic contact to have for active/athletic dogs. Extremely knowledgeable, very patient making sure the diagnosis and rehabilitation are fully understood and executed, and works in the digital world via email and YouTube. Very rarely would I give a full 5 start rating, but this was a pretty easy decision. He's just that good and cares for our dogs that much.

Doc was good, price higher than told, was told 2400 ended up almost 2800, woman that answered phone a wee bit on the snoty side too the point I hung on her 2x. We all have stressful days, but if you unable to mind your tongue then find another, this is the 2nd bad experience and the last. I appreciate the Doc for what he has done, but I just can't do this place again.

Was recommended to this location for a orthopedic examination for a potential CCL partial tear, Dr. Welch determined through a thorough evaluation that it was indeed a partial tear and recommended TPLO surgery. While we were apprehensive at first, Dr. Welch and the staff at Vet Specs answered every question in detail even the dumbest of questions. We're currently Day 5 post operation and we're happy with the way both our dog and we were treated, fairly, kindly, honestly and most importantly with care and compassion.
