I went there for the first time last year. It can be a long wait but I was very happy with the service from the staff and the vet. They don't try to do unnecessary treatments. My cat was suffering from allergies and was fine within days. Just took him back the other day for the same issue....a year later. Nothing but great service from staff and vet. I can tell my cat feels much better. His allergies are calming down. They are definitely my vet of choice!

I went there this past week on the recommendation of my sister. I was able to get my cat in very quickly, which I was unsure of with the walk-in hours. Once there, I unfortunately got the news no pet owner ever wants to get. The doctor was sympathetic, yet direct. He didn’t try to sell me some expensive treatment. He laid out my options but was Frank about what everything meant for my boy. He was very, very patient with my daughter and I during this process (she has special needs and kept getting sensory overloads, I was panicking and calling my family- we were a hot mess). My daughter even said she saw the vet tearing up as our boy drifted off to eternal sleep. I will forever be thankful for the patience, kindness;, and honesty of the staff. And once I get my next senior rescue, this will be their regular vet.

My pets have gone to Mattatuck since I first adopted from ARF in 1980!! Since then, there's been multiple dogs,cats, a rabbit, several guinee pigs, gerbils and hamsters....We are in our late 50's and on our last 2 guinee pigs and 15 yr old labordoodle...nothing is better than Mattatuck, for our update shots and elder pet care. Use them they have proven an asset to our pet community.

Took our cat here, I love that you dont need an appointment if you need yo go & there open you can go. My roommate was the second person in line in the morning he was in & out. The prices were amazing...they were what they should be, every other local vet I've been too has been outrageous to the point I couldn't afford all the recommendations. Staff is friendly & on point...Highly Recommend!

Was NOT impressed with the older vet. I had to ask him to do an exam at n my sick dog. They did no blood work. Come to find out going there was a waste of my time and money!!! My girl was in crisis and in kidney failure!! She could have died if I had listened to him!!! I will NOT be going back there. Here is Molly!! She is slowly getting better!!

One of the cheapest vets around BUT hours are very limited and I feel as though they don't take the actual time to check out the animal to find the cause for the issue. They seem to send most pets home with antibiotics with no other testing.

Dr. Turgeon is one of the best veterinarians in the area. He is thorough and gentle even with the largest animal such as my 150 lb. Saint Bernard. Expect a long wait on the days when he's working, he's a favorite. Wouldn't trust my animals to anyone else!

Really good prices, and nursing staff is great. HOWEVER, the actual Vet himself is extremely apathetic and still implements outdated practice. My pets are my family, and it would just be nice if the doctor also treated them with care and a gentler hand.

First let me say this. If you don't want to wait 45mins like me, show up 30mins before they open lol. They work on First come first served. That being said. My rednose pitbull gave birth to 9 pups, 2 died. I'm very new to breeding so I really know nothing. But they were so kind and helped me out so much. After the vet checked my pups and I went to front desk, they didn't charge me anything. Instead, the vet gave me 2 syringes and told me to go get milk from the local pet store etc and feed them. So I did that and now my 2 boys aren't crying/wining as much. Honestly speaking. Only time will tell if what info I learned will work. But so far so good.

I took my 6 month old German Shepherd yesterday was his first vet visit since I got him I know this place is a little dated but it was clean the staff was very good at their jobs the Doctor Who examined and gave shots to kunig was a little hesitant because kunig growled but he handled it professionally but cautiously. The cost was super reasonable compared to going to a private veterinarian. The doctor was very knowledgeable and gave some great advice I was a little worried after reading some of the reviews but we had a great experience The whole process was very efficient and I will take him back to be fixed in 6 months highly recommend this place

A Uber driver told me about how great this place was and I have to agree with him, they were great! I just needed to fill my cat’s prescription of urinary S/O food and thyroid meds. I walked in around 6:09 pm, was called into the room at about 6:20 and was walking out the door by 6:40. We were in and out in no time. The staff was really nice and the vet is such a sweet man. I Just knew I would have to kick out around $300 just for this visit but I was pleasantly surprised that I only had to pay for his food and meds, not the visit itself. Very thankful for this place!

Very affordable, worth the wait. Have gone twice, first trip took 3 pets to get updated. The office was very efficient and practical. The second visit was a scary visit for us, they took us right in and we were back on the road in no time.

I am here visiting my kids in an RV for 3 weeks a one of dogs needed his glands cleaned. I went there 1/2 hr before they opened with my dog and the gal said they could take me in at 10. I was very happy to get in let alone in half hour. The receptionist was very nice & the Vet was equally friendly and thorough. I would highly recommend them.

Ive been going here for a few years now. I like that they are low cost, and feel like ive been given good care. Sometimes the doctor seems a little quiet, but will give more information if you ask for it. My cat passed the other day and the office staff was very professional and friendly in handling the matter and made me feel a tiny bit better about handling this terrible experience. I will continue to use this vet.

I've been bringing my dog here for years. Dr. Turgeon is incredible! However, I cannot get past how incredibly rude the receptionist is. Every time I go there, I feel she talks down to me and always has a snarky attitude. Today's visit left me so upset! A few reviews here say that she is friendly, and that's got me very confused because all the people I know and the other dog owners I speak to while waiting to be called in say the same thing. If it wasn't for Dr. Turgeon, I'd be going elsewhere.

What a great place! Very relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. The Dr. and his staff were all very caring and informative. They didn't rush and they gave much attention. I have to say the prices were the most reasonable I've ever seen and I'm 67 years old. You don't have to make an appointment...you just go and wait your turn, which was fine. No one else could see our cat for a week.

I've been going there for over 30 years. Never once felt like I was being taken advantage of during my times of extreme stress. My animals have always been taken care of like I would want any of my family members to be cared for. Great staff and compassionate and knowledgeable doctors. Oh, and their prices are not ridiculous. Yesterday, was a very tough day for my fiancé and I, we went there to bring our cat, that had bone cancer under her jaw. Nothing could be done at that point, and we could no longer see her suffering anymore, so we made a decision to bring her here. The vet tech was so wonderful that she even got emotional and teary-eyed with us, and they were there for us, the other vet tech came in to check on us, and she even gave my cat a kiss on the head. We couldn’t see her be put down because it would be too painful, so she said she would be for her and console her. Which made us feel so much better, The veterinarian,She was so nice, and she gave us 15 minutes alone in the room to spend time with her. And she told us she would be very gentle with her, I’m so blessed and thankful that they treated our beautiful cat is such a gentle and beautiful manner,I know she was in great hands.

I've only been here twice and the second time was today October 23rd 2020 to put to sleep my dog who has been sick with cancer Both times different people helped me, couldn't have asked for a better experience kind considerate and compassionate. I read bad reviews about mattatuck. the people who wrote those reviews probably need to have bad reviews written about them I can't see any of these people not being nice and accommodating so to the doctor's and their assistants thank you so much for making this day as easy as possible

Excellent animal hospital. I've only dealt with Dr. Turgeon, and he's really a great vet. He's very matter-of-fact and makes your options very clear to your. He's not overly optimistic, nor is he doom and gloom. He also recommends expensive procedures only as a last-ditch option (he understands limited income). I've taken my cat to him several times this past week and every time he's been nothing short of a pleasure to work with. He hasn't strong-armed / bullied me or made me feel guilty about any of my decisions. Also, the hospital, itself, is super-convenient because they accept walk-ins. Matter of fact, they ONLY accept walk-ins, which can be a good or bad thing. If you can get there while everybody else is at work, you'll be helped almost immediately. Not only that, but they have weekend hours, as well, that aren't billed as emergency. Their pricing is also very competitive. When I went, it was $10 penicillin injection, $10 anti-nausea injection, $15 stool sample analysis, $130 for full blood panel. I have made Mattatuck Animal Hospital my first choice for care of my cats.

The care my dog receives here is amazing. Dr.T explains everything and truly cares about your pet and you! I recently moved about 40 minutes away, tried a vet near me and absolutely hated them.... we make the ride back just so my dog can remain in great care! Theres something to be said when the vet calls and checks up himself and calls back asap when I have questions! By far the best place for my family!

My experience overall is great. One of the girls at the front desk gave great customer service to me! I would come back again. The only doctor I do not recommend seeing is Dr. Lewis. We brought our cat here on Sunday and she could’ve gave us the results of the blood test first before putting other shots. Not only that, but she was rude. Gave disrespectful comments like “I don’t do billing” and “I’m sure I’ll see your cat again.” Even took pictures with that second comment. Who does that? Don’t see her!

Best Vet hospital in Waterbury!!! I took my maxie here yesterday with a bad reaction to frontline medicine. My poor baby was miserable, itching, weird movements, not eating and barely drinking for 3 days after calling many places they wouldn't take him without an appointment. They all told me to take him to an emergency Vet hospital. I called the emergency Vet and the lady right away told me that it would be $150 just for being there plus treatment. Thank God I found this place. They gave my maxie treatment and shots for way less then $150 for stepping foot at the emergency place!! By the time I got home he was already feeling better an hour later he was eating and drinking again Thank you so much Mattatuck!!! You guys are great and super friendly.

As Veterinarian hospital's are usually expensive this one is less money than most. It's no frills, they don't use a computer & everything is hand written. You don't make appointment's you show up during office hours, first come first serve. Dr. Tugeon is really nice listens to your questions.

A great animal vet. My cat wasn't doing to we'll and I had to bring her in. The wait wasn't long and the doctor gave me step by step instructions on what to do and how to treat my cat. The hospital also gave us an estimate of the visit over the phone, and when we got here the bill was reasonable. Good staff, and reasonably priced. You can't beat it.

Dr Turgeon is excellent. He is always very thorough. Tells you the recommendations for vaccinations, but isn’t overly pushy for testing or non required vaccines. A dog we adopted who was from the south ended up being heartworm positive, and Dr Turgeon explained the treatment, even called on the phone to answer all our questions. The receptionist and staff are always very friendly. I had to bring one of our dogs today during the “COVID pandemic”, the staff is doing an excellent job treating patients during these crazy times.

We have brought many animals in to Mattatuck Animal Hospital. We foster dogs for several rescues and have our own pack of dogs and several cats. The staff at Mattatuck has always been wonderful to all of our animals and their prices are extremely reasonable. It is a no-frills walk-in only vet. Like another reviewer said, they lay out all of the options and costs for procedures and let the pet owner decide how they want to proceed. No guilt if finances don't allow for the highest dollar services that may or may not help. They give the pet owner the information to make the cost to benefit analysis for their best friend. It is walk-ins only except for surgery which can be very convenient or can make for a longer wait depending on the time you go. They have excellent hours for typical working people, with later nights and weekend hours that are not billed higher than the less convenient day time hours.

We have been going to Mattatuck for over 20 years. The care has always been great. The cost is very reasonable too. There are several Doctors on staff and we have seen them all. Dr Meyer is very no nonsense and is great for a quick visit for shots or a general checkup. For more involved issues Drs Petrario or Turgeon are very informative. This is an older practice with a common sense approach to animal care. They have walk-in hours 5 days a week 3 times a day and mornings only on weekends. This is not an emergency vet service, so if you have a critical care issue call before you show up. I have seen people bring in a dog who has clearly been ill for a long time and has never been seen before and they are upset when there is not an instant diagnosis. I have coordinated care between an emergency clinic for advanced testing and this office for follow up care and have been happy with the services from both.

My 9 mo old puppy was struggling to walk and didn't want to do anything except lay down. We brought her here and they were great with her. They listened to our concerns and tested her for Lyme and she tested positive for Lyme disease and elichriosis. We are hoping the medicine starts working asap and she gets back to her old self soon.

This place saved my cat's life. He developed stones and could not urinate. I was told by three other vets to put him down if I could not afford the $7,000 of treatment that was necessary. One of the vets was appalled at the thought of putting him down because his condition was treatable with a diet change and a fountain to increase water intake. They kept him over night, unblocked him and gave him some take home meds. It's been almost a year and he's perfectly healthy and most importantly alive. I have recommended this office over and over again.

I needed a rabies shot on myon 06/30 ,mydog so he coukd visit my husband before he died....NOT 1 vet would see my dog out of at least 25, not even my own!! Mattatuck said bring him in at 6 and we will see him. My husband got to see his dog before he passed away at 2:30 the next morning!!! Thank you Mattatuck...THANK YOU

Mattatuck has helped me with my cats over the years. So thankful for Mattatuck! After my cat was very sick in the middle of the night and a horrible experience at the VCA in Cheshire, I brought my cat here (they were closed at 1AM when my cat was sick). He formed crystals in his bladder and was in a lot of pain. My cat stayed at Mattatuck for a day and a half and has been so much better! He is now on prescription medication, which seems to be helping. After being told that I may need to put my cat down or pay thousands of dollars by the VCA--I am SO HAPPY that I have Mattatuck. For a mere $350, my cat was able to stay at the hospital have his catheter, prescription medication, and prescription food and most important my happy, loving cat again. Thank you Mattatuck!

My Detroit was treated very well the staff was compassionate, caring, respectful. Unfortunately we had to lay Detroit to rest and the staff shared in our pain. One vet barely talks and gives absolutely no answers or anything unless you ask him first. Literally the visit would be completely silent if you don't say something first..and you're lucky to get more then a "yes" or "no" other vets are awesome though!
