This might be the best animal hospital ever. I took my kitty in when she was very sick, I was clear I was not ready to put her to sleep. They gave her a dose of pain killers. Recommend I hospitalize her, I declined and they showed me how to take care of her at home. She passed away about an hour after we got her home, but she wasn’t in pain and her sisters were able to say goodbye. I took her back to them for to creamate her. They made it very easy and my husband picked her up today, she’s in a beautiful wood box and a copy of her paw prints. What really stood out I got a card that everyone at the practice wrote a sweet little paragraph saying sweet things. It brought me to tears and I’m so grateful to the staff for making this horrible time a little easier. Thank you Haven! You’re amazing people 😽

Showed up a little early and they got my cat in right away, was there for a reasonable amount of time, barely had to wait.. had results back very quick. They were sooo nice, and super caring with my cat. A little pricey but understandable. Always had a quote before doing anything so you weren’t shocked with a bill after they did testing and etc. highly recommend

The place took care of my daughter's rabbit very well. It was initially determined by my daughter that she would need a flush on the rabbits eyes and it was later determined by the animal doctor that it would need just penicillin shots. The office was honest regarding what happened and could have charged us more and gotten away with it but they were honest and we appreciate it.

Extremely nice staff. They are very caring and always call the next day to make sure everything is good. We recently left a message to cancel an appointment because we were taking our dog to get his leg fixed so did not need the follow up appointment. They called me just to make sure that cancelling our appointment meant he was getting in for the care he needed. They were excited to hear we got him in for his surgery.

Not only was this vet the ONLY one in the area to make an attempt to help my sick cat when she needed same-day care and emergency vets were “too booked”/sending us away, they were calming, kind and completely thorough. The doctor spent a full hour looking into my cat’s needs and helping us to get her back on track to health. This is a place that very clearly actually cares about the animals it’s helping. Loved it here! My new doggo got a super bad ear infection and they were able to get us in same day being new patients. Fixed my boy right up and gave us so much information on every question I asked. This was our first visit to Haven Animal Hospital and we were very please. The office staff was very friendly & efficient. Our wait time was short and the room we were in was extremely clean. The assistant was great with Willie, even got on the floor. Dr Hilferty was very through and explained very test he was going to do, plus the cost. When necessary, we will definitely return.

Just wanted to post an awesome experience I had with Haven Animal Hospital. I just moved to GH a couple of months ago and hadn't found a vet locally yet. Yesterday afternoon my little yorkie dog had ingested something toxic and was going down hill fast. I brought her to the vet closest to where we live and were turned away - told we had to go all the way to GR for emergency care. I didn't think she was going to make it that long so we stopped at River Haven and they were AWESOME - the techs, receptionist and especially Dr. Hilferty immediately tended to her. They called back this morning just to check on her too ❤️ Can't wait to take all our furbabes there 😊

This is the vet office I have been taking my 2 youngest doggos to and it’s been nothing but great. I enjoy how they work so hard to fit you in and stay on top of their cancellation list! Recently, I was visiting friends from out of state with our beloved dog 14 year old Max. Unfortunately, he started getting sick on a Sunday and then got worse overnight. I was lucky enough to get the only appointment available on Monday morning at 9:00 am. The kind woman scheduled me, and explained I could not go in for the initial exam due to Covid restrictions but they would take good care of Max. Caleb came out, explained everything and took Max in. After Dr. Hilferty finished his exam, he called me. It was not good news. My worst fears were realized. I went in to spend some time with Max before he went to play with all of the other pups on the other side of the rainbow. I cannot tell you how caring and thoughtful the entire staff was there. They didn't know me or Max, yet they treated us like family. I miss my Max so much, but am so thankful I came to the right place. Much love to all of you at Haven Animal Hospital and especially Dr. Hilferty.

Besides the heartworm test, flu shot & offering insurance it was good visit. Good customer service but the racketeering needs to stop. If a medication your selling works then there's no reason to charge me to test to see if it worked? If I don't get flu shot why does my dog need one? Insurance??? Not after what auto owners done to me. I can insure my dog will get better help with my own wallet.

I absolutely ❤️ LOVE ❤️ this pet hospital, the staff are AMAZING!!!! They actually care about your animals!!!! Even if their busy, they'll still try to work yu in, work around income, making bills more affordable!!! And, they get on the ground, and on their level, not up high .... anything to accommodate yu they will!! My babies have been going there for a few years now! So, I definitely know!!!! They have helped me in emergency situations, down to just regular shots, I wouldn't go anywhere else!!!!! I have went to multiple vet clinics in Michigan, and by far, hands down, the best 👌 ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ their staff act understanding, and listen. And ACTUALLY help you!!!!!!! My dog was hurt badly!! Ripped off his entire dew claw, and because he was JUST seen, a few days ago.... they worked with me thru emails, and helping my boy with antibiotics that he needed!!!!!! I can't say enough GOOD about this place.... it should be called heaven... because that's how easy, and nice, respectful, everyone is!!!! My dogs actually get excited to go, even if I have to stay in the car!And, dogs don't lie!! Lol❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I came to Haven Animal Hospital because I was unable to get my dogs in anywhere else. I’ve been impressed with their care since day one. They are always kind, always ready to answer your questions, and they are very good at getting to the root of your pets problems. To the people saying they nickel and dime you, it’s costly, etc…Yes, veterinary care is expensive, but they do not pressure you into anything. You are ALWAYS given the choice to decline anything, and they always make sure you know the cost before you are charged AND they will make sure you are 100% sure that you are comfortable with your options. You are not FORCED to spend your money. I have a 9 year old golden retriever that has a constant sore on his paw. Every vet I’ve been too has chalked it up to allergies/irritation and sent me on my way. Haven offered me other options that eventually led to his diagnosis of what turned out to be some gnarly arthritis. Now with proper treatment my boy is running around like a brand new pup after all this time and enjoying his senior years!

The wait time between arriving in the parking lot and our animal being taken inside is extremely reasonable. The cost of services is great and I have never been surprised by any of our bills (including neutering!). Every interaction I have had with staff: from calling into the office or talking with technicians and doctors has always been pleasant and enjoyable. I've never been given the impression that my business is not valued. I highly recommend Haven Animal Hospital.

Amazing amazing amazing! My cat Buddy just spent 3 days here following an emergency urinary blockage surgery. Dr. Hilferty and the team at Haven Animal Hospital saved my boy and for that I will always be grateful. My experience was better than any with my vet that I’ve been with for years. Where do I start - Haven Animal Hospital is a game changer in veterinarian excellency. The past month has been more than difficult for my dog and I. My dog and I were attacked twice by my neighbors dog. The second time my dog had a bite at the jugular. They saw us as a new client within 2 hours of the phone call. I spoke with a vet , nurse, and was explained exact charge for each treatment without asking [every time] before proceeding. Weeks later a very very bloody stool. I was seen within AN HOUR of calling them. Diagnosed within 45 minutes. Treated within an hour. Sent home within 1.5 hours. I could not believe it - the treatment, diagnoses, etc was all broken down to me and a pamphlet was sent home as well. A bacterial infection that she could have had since a puppy - which could be a leading factor in many issues she has had. Follow up calls, voicemails, and emails. Just a beautiful company, wellrounded employees, and modern facility. Absolutely the best veterinarian I have experienced in West Michigan from Grand Rapids to Muskegon. I can not recommend this company enough, truly. I feel confident taking my dog here and referring others here as an emergency vet / or primary.

Haven Animal Hospital is great! Let me start by saying that they figured out/fixed my older dog’s stomach issues that he’s had since he was a puppy. I’ve been to so many vets about it and none of the food or solutions they suggested ever worked. Since going here and following their recommendations, my dog hasn’t had the issue. An issue he’s had for 7 years; I couldn’t be more grateful they helped get it worked out. Both my dogs actually go here, my new puppy has been getting his shots here, and my older dog also just had some lumps removed and all went great! I’ve lived in a lot of places and seen a lot of vets, this is by far my favorite. If I ever move again I’ll be disappointed about having to find another vet.

Haven Animal Hospital is Amazing! All the staff are super friendly and care about my pups. They call my babies by their names and truly show love towards them. One of my pups has special needs, and the Dr took time to review him to assure he is on the right track. The Dr called the next day as a follow up. That was amazing! This was our first visit to Haven Animal Hospital. Our sweet boy, Mr Roper had had a seizure and we needed to get him in to see what was going on right away! They were able to get him in the day I called! They explained everything, they followed safe COVID protocols and were very informative throughout his visit while I waiting in the car. He is extremely nervous going to the vet/groomer etc. so I asked to put a muzzle on him myself. I did this so that the vet would feel safe and that my sweet boy who doesn't bite but acts/looks as though he will when he is nervous would feel safe. I saw on the other reviews that an owner was upset with using a muzzle however I think safety of the animal and the ones caring for the animal is so important. And when everyone is less stressed and feels safe I'm confident that the appointment will go much better for everyone. The vet took time to explain everything and walk me through scenarios and possible explanations of what may be going on. I so appreciated the time and attention and follow up after. I would love to bring Mr. Roper back here for his next check up! Thank you!

My dog had an accident and got severely hurt on her head. After calling almost every emergency vet in town and in Grand Rapids, I contacted haven animal hospital. They were so nice, and got my dog in to see them within an hour with no appointment, even tho they were getting ready to close. They treated her so well, and made sure she was really okay to come home. I love the staff, and the veterinarian was so communicative with what needed to be done with my dog. It was a positive experience with the exception of I would of liked the receptionist who bought the bag to the car with my cat’s medication in it (there were a few different kinds) to have reviewed them with me instead of just handing me the bag. It would be nice to have received a printed explanation or an email of her exam and what the treatment on her specifically was, medications prescribed, etc.. Appreciated the follow up phone call the next day

They were so very AMAZING with our newest fur baby addition. We had rescued a kitten that someone driving in front of us had thrown out their car window while moving from at a stop sign. We HAD to pick her up. Nobody in muskegon county could see her within a reasonable amount of time. We called Haven Animal Hospital and they squeezed us in the morning I called! My pup needed a vaccine for an event we went to, ur vet could not get him in but I called Haven Animal hospital and they got him in very quickly and he was able to attend his sibling reunion. The staff was wonderful and he went with the staff member with no issues. The doctor was very professional when he called me to let me know how my dogs check up went and asked if I had any questions? I think we will make Haven Animal Hospital our regular veterinarian.

I've been taking my pets to Haven Animal Hospital for nearly a quarter century. Why? First and foremost because I trust they're getting the best care possible. Dr. Bytwerk and staff will settle for nothing less. Beyond that, any information I need is always delivered clearly so I am comfortable that I am making informed choices when needed. In addition the staff is friendly and the vibe I get when I'm in the office is that it is a great place to work and , to me, that reflects well on the management. Every encounter I've had with every employee has been positive and caring. On three occasions where my visit was , sadly, to put down an elderly pet companion. I got a distinct vibe that the team at Haven Animal Hospital was almost as sad as I was and that empathy helped me on some difficult days. Over the years, I've made the occasional random visits to other vets just to see what's out there. They were fine but never quite felt like home the way Haven Animal Hospital does. For me, they're the best.

Haven Animal Hospital wasn't my primary vet. My previous vet wasn't able to get my dog in, and we needed to get him up to date for boarding. It was all due to COVID our original vet had to reschedule his appointment. After getting recommendations from friends, we sought out Haven Animal Hospital, and had a great experience. I had to wait 20 minutes past my appointment time but they were very apologetic. Once my dog was back in the office staff kept in constant contact with me. They provided prompt updates, explained the reasoning behind the testing they wanted to perform, and the pricing of the tests before performing them. Very professional and friendly staff. Before adopting our English Lab in 2016 we researched all of the vets in town and The Haven Animal Hospital was so overjoyed to meet our puppy (Pete) and we instantly felt so comfortable with them and confident in their abilities! Getting a puppy can be stressful when it comes to all of their shots and puppy treatments, but everyone at The Haven Animal Hospital was so kind! They recognize him in public and ask us how he is doing and they always treat him as if he were their own. All the staff, Dr.H and Dr. Olson are the only 2 I've met but they are both beyond words! Dr. Olson saw one of cats in Dec when are old Dr wouldn't/couldn't see us. She was so kind and compassionate. Kitty ended up needing surgery and was all good after that! We had a kitty that had been to 7 other Dr's. When Dr.H saw her he nailed it right away with 1 test! 2 of many reason we've fallen in with Haven Animal Hospital. All our animals are treated like family from the front desk to the techs to the Dr's. The kindness and respectful way they all are with the clients is what we all wish for.

The staff at Haven Animal Hospital are amazing! My cat became very ill over night. The vet clinic we normally go to was not able to see us utill 2:30pm. Haven was willing to see us even after many vet clinics had turned us down because we were not a "regular". I called at about 8:40am and they were able to see us at 9am. The staff was very understanding when I came in with a very ill cat and 4 younger children in tow. They have a small play area for kids. Sadly our cat didn't make it. The cat belonged to my Autistic child. He wanted to have his cat cremated and put in a container with a flower. I had asked the staff what size flower pot I should get so I could have it ready. The staff told me not to worry that they would take care of it. Needless to say, Haven Animal Hospital will now be caring for our animals.

This is a kind, compassionate, available vet clinic. We've lived around the country different places, and we certainly hold this one in high esteem. We have two dogs now, costly as you can image, but the care they get is superb. I'm writing a review in order for the consumer to understand an issue that we recently had, and how disappointed we are in Haven's lack of communication. My husband went ahead w/ getting a RX from them. Once home we looked over the bill and saw how costly the meds were we went on line and found them cheaper w/ Chewy. He immediately called them and the receptionist (who has worked there for 6 years) told him to bring it in and we could return it. Mind you, if it were $30-40 more w/ the local business we would have kept it...however, the same med was $95 cheaper per dog, almost $200 difference. The reviews suggested that the medication was legit, the real deal, etc. When he tried to return it, they wouldn't accept it because of a federal law. We understand their limitations, HOWEVER they have the responsibility to inform the consumer and let us know these things. We aren't proficient on federal laws, and only asked that they comply with what we were told. Since we were told we could return it, I ordered it on line and now we have double the medicine w/ over $600 on our credit card bill. They were apologetic, but refused to see that their long time employee caused us a huge expensive mistake.

With a unique situation for a rescue that had an encounter with a porcupine, the doctor got us in right away in the morning and were extremely reasonable and helpful to make the best decisions possible for Blue. Excellent place to take your pets. I have been bringing my cat/cats here for over ten years and have been very satisfied with Dr. Bytwerk and her staff. They seem to really care about my pets. The only problem--they are a little pricey. When my cat needed her teeth cleaned, I went elsewhere; the difference in price here was such a big difference than other area facilities. Last summer I had to put my cat to sleep (I had Angel for 16 years). They were so kind. They gave her a shot first to make her sleepy before the final step. This was so much easier to handle. They take a form of your pets paws to give you a plaque to hang on your wall. Afterward, they whole staff sent a card with a note from each employee. I wholly recommend Haven Animal Hospital for your choice to take care of your beloved pet.

We lived in Grand Haven for about a year and finding a vet for our two dogs was a top priority. Our dog, Tasha, began seeing Dr. B and it was fantastic right from the start. Unfortunately, over Christmas in 2014, Tasha broke her leg. We were terrified she would need to be put down, but she, thankfully, had surgery to repair the break at an emergency clinic in Grand Rapids. Haven Animal Hospital was invaluable in her post-surgical care. Every time I would come in, all the girls at the desk knew Tasha and helped her feel comfortable. Dr. B was enormously supportive in helping us choose the right care and recovery plan for her, and we never felt concerned about Tasha's health--they were extremely patient with us. Our other dog, Ruth Ann, was also a patient and she was treated just perfectly. I think what I love most about Haven is their intimate and close treatment of all their animals and how much they are wiling to go above and beyond to ensure the owners and the animals are at ease. When we moved to Grand Rapids, it was sad to say goodbye to Haven. They are truly at the top of their game! I would heartily recommend them to any pet owner in the Lakeshore area. They are fantastic!

When Minion stopped eating, we knew something was up. Haven Animal Hospital worked with us to figure out what the problem was -- without making us go in debt. When I brought Minion in for her dental cleaning, (her teeth were the problem) everything was explained clearly, and each cost was laid out ahead of time. I got an update call on my phone, and when I went to pick her up, the vet went through all the x-rays with me, explaining everything. I appreciate the knowledgeable and caring staff. My dog was hit by a car and was cut up pretty badly on her legs and had a dislocated hip. The vets stitched her up but were worried she might lose a toe on her back leg. Their skill saved the toe and it is healing nicely. The dislocated hip will require surgery to repair it but they elected to wait until her other wounds healed up some. Surgery is scheduled for later this week. The vets and the staff are very gifted and caring people that are willing to help and gave my girl the very best of care. I highly recommend them! UPDATE: Indra had her hip surgery done by Dr. Hilferty the week before Thanksgiving. She is taking short walks already and is so happy to be outside. A vet tech hand fed her during recovery and sat with her. That's typical of the compassionate care my dogs have received at Haven. I am very greatful for them. Thank you, Haven!

They treat my dog with care. They come out to the car and she is barking at them but they still not afraid of her biting. The doctor calls in what his plans are for my dog. They are so friendly.Also they helped my daughter with her dog who had another dog attached. They told us that she will be ok to drive to Grand Rapids for a surgery.

We love Haven Animal Hospital! A while back we had to take our cat Sadie there because she became ill and my favorite part about our visit is that they give you a itemized list of how much every thing will cost before they do any treatments and they never make you feel pressured to do it all. Just today we took our newest fur baby Maple to get checked up and make sure every thing was good to go with her. All I have to say about today’s visit is we love doctor Gray! I know many of us have pets and hope to find the best care available. But, I can not recommend Haven Animal Hospital enough! We had an unfortunate accident yesterday afternoon, and were turned away from every single local veterinarian clinic in the area because they were closing soon (it was 4:30) or they didn't have any appointments available. Their suggestion was I go to an animal emergency in Grand Rapids during rush hour, also during construction season. Our suffering, dying pet in the car, was turned away because it was time to go home.. Thank goodness for Haven Animal hospital!. They called us in route to check on the status of our pet, and immediately brought her back when we arrived. Every single staff member was compassionate and understanding and helped us through a very difficult time. We will never see anyone else. Compassion is worth every penny, and I know these guy's actually care about our pets.

We had a scare and my 10 year old dog was acting as if she had serious issues or a possible fracture in her rear paw. I had never been to Haven Animal Hospital and they were absolute life savers. They have a great staff and new facility and were able to take my 10 year old through a day of tests with light medication to confirm she would be ok after some rest. I am a long time dog owner and have moved around quite a bit, but I would not hesitate to put Haven Animal Hospital amongst the best Animal Hospitals I have been to.

Dog had a lot of scabs from excessive scratching and i didn't see any fleas prior to bringing him in. They were a little behind schedule but nothing too crazy. They came out to the car, grabbed our dog, and brought him in to be evaluated. Not too long later, i received a call telling us the diagnosis. There was a $50 exam fee then the meds that they prescribed. $35 for .082 of dexamethasone 4mg, $31.26 for 3 milbeguard dog 51-100lb, $61 for heartworm test, $67.46 for 1 bravecto 44-88lb dog 1000mg and $44.90 for 10 cefpodoxime 200mg tabs for a total of $289.62. I don't know if that's a fair price or not, but i do believe in transparent pricing. Very nice and professional staff. If you bring your furry friend here, i do whole heartily believe that he/she will be in great hands

My experience with Haven Animal Hospital has been EXCELLENT. Yes, medical care and diagnosing an illness is expensive - but that's true for pets and people alike. As consumers, we have to remember that our vets must provide professional care, medication, purchase or use expensive diagnostic tools and also keep up with ongoing medical education, not to mention pay salaries, rent and so forth. I was referred to this animal hospital by my sister, who has been going to this practice for 20-some years - basically two generations of cats. The staff is caring and professional and Dr. B is highly competent. My German Shepherd CoCo received excellent care and careful screening to diagnose her condition. My dog got the best I could hope for. I highly recommend this vet.

That's when I took her to Haven animal Hospital and she got the care and treatment she needed. 6 months later, my cat was gravely ill from conditions she contracted after going missing outside for 3 days. About 6 years ago, my cat's abdomen blew up like a balloon. The vet I had at that time said that they couldn't see her until Monday. That was Thursday morning. After calling a couple places, Haven said that they would see her right away. Unfortunately, she had abdominal cancer. We took her home for the night so that everyone could say goodbye, then took her back to Haven the next morning to be put to sleep. Everyone at Haven was so wonderful, that, when I got another cat 4 years ago, there was no question where I was going to take her. I have always been extremely happy with her care.
