Our chicken coop was broken into and our Turken chicken had her wing damaged and was bitten. I can positively say that it was worth the 2 hour drive with three kids. I honestly was shocked at how much kindness and care they gave to what others would think was just as a silly $2 chicken. They were honest, thorough, and caring. They were also so kind to my children as well. I WILL recommend this clinic to everyone!

Took my two bunnies to this place and the staff are so kind, caring, and accommodating. They gave them their breakfast veggies since it was a drop off visit, and continued to give me over the phone or text advice anytime I had a concern. Not changing my vet anytime soon, would 10/10 recommend!

Love this place! Best vet I've ever patronized. Staff is friendly and water + coffee is always offered. Decent availability, great facilities, competent vets, techs, and reception. I'm always asked which vet I'd prefer and it's awesome how many cat friendly certified vets are on staff. They also send regular (but not annoyingly so) reminders about services due.

This clinic has been so kind to us for 3 years. Each interaction is personable and informational. But more importantly, they were there for us when we lost one of our furry family members. Not only did we get a condolences card that was signed individually, but we also received a remembrance gift. The littlest of gestures makes a world of difference and they understand that. As a new cockatiel owner(and overall bird owner), taking my young 6 month old to the vet for a simple checkup was very stressful to say the least. Birds like my Arnie do not like to be handled, and scream and whine while being forced to do so, so I prepared on being hated and despised by my avian friend afterwards. The vet I worked with was Dr. Ball, and he and his assistants were very careful and kind to Arnie. The visit overall was painless for my new bird (though he would certainly argue differently, lol). Now I can rest easy knowing Arnie is set up for a long and prosperous life ahead of him, and his nails will no longer destroy my hands, at least for the time being. After I got him home, he seemed pretty weary and on the defensive, but as soon as I put my hand out with some millet spray, he calmed down immediately and even wanted some head scritches. Needless to say, I was extremely relieved! Thank you Ankeny Animal & Avian for the very deft touch and excellent service!

I took my hamster to be seen and they are so wonderful. They are so knowledgeable about small animals and give wonderful care. They have sent me follow up texts after the care to check in on my little guy. I cannot recommend them enough. They are absolutely wonderful! The clinic is so clean and their staff was so nice!

I took in a pair of rats and within 2 weeks one began to roll around her tank. Ankeny was the only place they was able to take her in that day. It turned out she'd had a stroke and she wasn't going to have a good quality of life even if she came out if it. They gently walked me through the process and now her ashes are in a butterfly garden. They gave me a momento box with a tail imprint and her tiny back paws. It was sad to lose her, but they helped her pass quickly so she's no longer suffering. I greatly appreciated that they charged me only the fee to put her down. Highly recommend this place to anyone with small animals.

I am extremely impressed! After a delay in getting back to us on some test results (it happens) we received a call back today to apologize for the oversight and delay. They had already taken care of our doodle and got him all fixed up. And yet they still called to make sure we were satisfied and to make things right. Not many will do this so we will make sure we tell everyone who is looking for a vet about the great care from this clinic!

The staff are bringing back “customer service”. They all are very nice and a few of them laugh at my sad attempts at a joke. All the rooms are big and some have a small couch, which I prefer. If they were closer to me, I’d take all 17 of my cats to be treated there. Keep up the great work.

One of my dogs is very challenging and has some issues with unfamiliar people...it was so nice to go into a clinic that was understanding, patient, and worked together to set my dog up for success. I was able to advocate for my dog and participate in their care. It was done in a way to create a positive experience for all. They are wonderful and I LOVE their Fear Free procedures!!! Diesel also gives them a paw up ☺️

I was house sitting for a friend. While they were gone, their dog eat part of a quilt and I was so worried about her. I called Ankeny Animal & Avain Clinic to find out what I needed to look for. They were so helpful and reassuring, I did everything they said and watched the dog carefully. The entire staff was knowledgeable and very kind through our whole process. Especially Chassi, she helped us out by volunteering her personal time to help my wife give medicine while I was gone to do military training. Sadly our Rabbit Sampson did not make it, but we are grateful to the entire staff, and especially Chassi for the extra time we got to spend with her. Thank you all.

I watched Nova grow from a small chick to a beautiful adult, he was always an amazing and caring rooster. I am very thankful for the kindness and compassion I was given when we had to euthanize him due to paralysis. I could not have asked for better care.

First visit here, as I moved to Ankeny recently and wanted to find a vet closer than Des Moines, where previous excellent vet was. Staff really helpful, professional, very service-oriented. Had my Corgi mix in for GI tract issues, they did thorough exam, got lab results to me next day, and even comped my girl a bag of special treats for sensitive dog stomachs. Fees reasonable, happy to put my pup's care in their hands. Highly recommend on this initial experience.

My gerbil, Gabe, wasn’t chewing his chew toys like he normally does and he was rubbing his mouth a lot as if it was hurting him. Dr. Barnes and her assistant, Heidi, were great with him. After an examination in which they were gentle but thorough with my gerbil, Dr. Barnes was able to notify me of a wiggly tooth Gabe had. While we made plans to have X-rays done and the tooth pulled for the next day, Dr. Barnes made sure Gabe was sent home with oral pain medication so that he didn’t have to suffer through the night waiting for his appointment the following day. I really appreciated that and it was clear that same night when the medicine kicked in, he was feeling so much better. Dr. Barnes and Heidi really seemed to care about helping my little guy feel better. They were so friendly and absolutely great with my gerbil. They seemed to be truly sympathetic about his pain and my worries over him. When I came in the next day to drop Gabe off, two young women at the welcome desk greeted me and took him in. I didn’t catch their names but they were also very friendly and nice. Later that day I received the call that the X-rays showed it was a fractured tooth and that the vets were able to quickly and easily pull it while my gerbil was under anesthesia. It’s always risky to put such a small animal under, but they said he did great and called me when he woke up. When I picked him up, I was expecting to see a very groggy looking gerbil. But instead he was active and looked like he felt so much better having that fractured tooth out. On the car ride home he even started chewing and destroying the chew toys in his carrier! I was so happy and relieved. I also received a text and email from Ankeny Animal and Avian Clinic asking about how he was doing. The people working there really care about the well being of your pet. It has been just over a week since Gabe has had his tooth pulled and he is totally back to his playful, happy, destructive little self. I couldn’t be happier or more grateful with the service we received at Ankeny Animal and Avian Clinic. I would highly recommend Dr. Barnes for anyone with a pocket pet. She understands that it’s not “just a gerbil”. :) Thank you Dr. Barnes, Heidi, and everyone that worked with Gabe that day, for being his tooth-fairies. 🦷🧚‍♀️🧚🧚‍♂️❤️ P.S. His tooth grew back just fine and perfectly healthy!

We've been taking our dogs here since our first one was a puppy...and she's now nearly 7. The staff (at every level) is amazing. They are friendly and attentive and truly get to know us and our pets. Their goal is to create a fear-free atmosphere for pets and it works...our dogs love going there. Our most recent visit was due to figuring out the best way to help our lab with his allergies. Dr. Warren and Vet Tech Whitney are a dream team...even at the end of the day, they didn't rush us and made sure we had what we needed. Highly recommend.

I was extremely impressed with my first visit at this vet's office. Everyone there was so friendly and helpful. I had to take my 30-year old cockatiel because of a bad eye. One assisted me with questions about pet toys and other ideas for entertaining my dogs while I waited for my bird to be seen. They are so caring! Dr. Gigler is so thorough and treated Kirby so gentle. Her nurse was also top notch! I think her name was Sara. I was so happy I went to see her. I wish they were closer to Oskaloosa!

MOST AMAZING VET EXPERIENCE!! I brought my 1 year old bunny to this vet today for the first time and was very impressed! My rabbit has been having upper respiratory issues for the past week and we went to a different vet when these issues first arose. I wasn’t entirely impressed with the last vet I visited, so I transitioned to this one and it is it BEST decision I’ve made concerning my bunny! We were seen by Dr. Terri Argotsinger, and she was very gentle and patient with my spunky little bunny. She sat on the floor with us and thoroughly examined my bunny and talked me through everything. She was very personable and easy to talk to, and she answered my many questions! I can’t say enough good things about this place and my experience today!

RAVING ABOUT THIS CLINIC! Wow. I cannot say enough wonderful things about our first visit with Ankeny Animal & Avian Clinic. From the very start, Allie helped get my pups scheduled (same week!) and was such a kind and friendly voice on the other end of the phone. I was caught off guard, but SO impressed when she asked, “Are your pups okay with being seen by a male Vet?” THAT’S how thoughtful and concerned this office is with the care they provide. I was so relieved to hear that they even thought to ask! I remember thinking, “If everyone is like this, this will be a great fit.” Better yet, they took appts, so we didn’t have to wait for a walk-in, which is beneficial for our busy schedules and my anxious doggies. I received a text reminder and instructions for arriving for their appt. Once I called, I was impressed to hear no waiting in a lobby with other pets for a room to open. For my Dane, this is huge as other animals and distractions exacerbate her high anxiety. Typically, it takes about 2 minutes of being in an office before we can feel the harsh stares and judgement from staff because of how fearful our Dane is. This was not the case at all. Their team was cheery and gracious and excited to see our dynamic duo make their grand entrance. Their office was under construction, but well kept and VERY clean. They had calming music playing and led us to a spacious exam room for my pom and great dane to be seen together. That’s where the magic began- let me just say, that Miss Bailey and her trainee are absolute GOLD standard vet techs, by far THE BEST I have ever encountered. As mentioned, my sweet Great Dane is a peach, but a nervous girl and getting to the vet is always traumatic for her. The techs were beyond accommodating, sweet natured, and acutely observant of my Danes reactions to noise, volume, and other cues. I even heard Bailey kindly ask someone in the other room to refrain from closing cabinet doors too loudly because she saw that it startled my big girl. I’m actually in tears with how kind, gentle and patient they were with her and how quickly my Dane sensed this and was put at ease. We have NEVER experienced anything like this before. Dr. Ball was amazing as well, very attentive and thorough with both of our dogs medical Hx, addressing all of our questions and concerns. Furthermore, he gave us recommendations without the gimmick and pressure of buying from the office. He really helped educate us to make the best decisions for our doggies to keep them safe and healthy in their new environment. Everyone referred to them as our “kiddos,” if we didn’t need confirmation by now that they ARE in fact, animal people… our kind of people. Our pups were quick to sniff out that the staff here lead with care and compassion and were quick to offer their bellies for a scratch (again, huge win for a girl who shakes with her tail tucked in the corner on every office visit with previous clinics). Another tech came in to help out with my pom’s anal glands and she too, was so pleasant and happy despite doing a job I know others would shy away from. She was genuinely happy to help our little guy out and knew how important her service was in helping him stay comfortable. Their pricing was really affordable, but even if it wasn’t, we would still come back for the absolute top-notch quality care that our dogs received. As soon as we got in the truck, my husband said, “Well, we found our vet office!” Can’t thank this team enough for making our pups’ vet visit such a pleasant one and for really treating them with the love and kindness they had not received from other offices. A million thank yous, a million kudos! I know my puppies are looking forward to visiting again!

We've got a senior cat, who has been lightly limping. We brought her in and we found out that she's got the start of arthritis. The staff were so cordial and knew immediately what to do. This is why they are our primary veterinarian and this is why they are the best!!

The Ankeny Animal &Avian clinic was the only vet clinic that would see our sick cat (a new patient) the same day when I called at least 4 others. The vet's there are knowledgeable and my cat is a very nervous,anxious and gets extremely stressed at vet's, he was very calm there with the light music , cat friendly atmosphere.

Really great staff, and Dr. Terry and Dr. Sprague (I think, I may be spelling her name incorrectly) were great as well! Glad to have vets knowledgeable about rabbit care to keep my two bunnies nice and healthy! I was nervous about their recovery after their spay surgery and the staff and vet were very supportive and helpful. They also have a gorgeous housecat in the clinic named Iris (see photo).

My wife and I brought our mini doodles to Ankeny Animal & Avian Clinic and were incredibly impressed. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The rooms were very clean and we felt that our pets were in great hands the whole time. One of our dogs has really short legs and a long body. We were with another vet for years and they never mentioned any preventive joint care for our pup. On our first visit, the vet recommended starting it now to prevent future issues. We cannot recommend this place enough and will definitely make Ankeny & Avian Animal Clinic our primary care provider!

Overall the staff is extremely friendly. 3 stars because the cross-eyed female doctor is pretty rude, impatient, and hardly allows you to speak without cutting you off and ignoring your questions. If you don't end up with her you and your animal will likely have a good experience

I needed to find an avian vet for my parakeet. I couldn't have asked for better than Dr. Warren! She gave me some great pointers in adding nutrition to her diet, especially during her first big molt. Kelsey, the tech was also really helpful and they both made me and my bird feel really relaxed and comfortable. So glad to find a great avian vet!!

I really liked how easy it was to get an appointment and how friendly the staff were. My cat, Macie, had to have periodontal surgery and I was VERY grateful and impressed by how communicative they were! I received clear pre/post-op instructions, they called me multiple times with updates, and then texted me a photo of Macie in recovery once she was awake. They made the experience a million times less stressful. That being said, there are a few things they could work on: - Whenever Macie would get her claws trimmed, it was very difficult because the techs wouldn't just scruff her, which I requested multiple times knowing that it was the best method for her. They would try to wrap her in a blanket and pull at her paws, which did not work well, and it was more stressful and took much longer than necessary to get it done. - When Macie had to get blood work done, they tried to get it from her arm, rather than her neck. This resulted in her getting a big hematoma and I had to tell them to pull the needle out as it was just getting bigger. There are definitely easier and safer methods for drawing blood. - I've found that the upcharge on prices for prescriptions and services is pretty substantial. I was charged around $20 for one strip of eye dye (to check for scratches) which only costs a couple cents retail. I also had asked to be told the extra cost for services and procedures during my visits, but that wasn't done and an $80 exam (which is already double the price other clinics charge) turned into a $180 visit. After I raised my concerns, $80 was taken off, but it shouldn't have been necessary. - The last thing is small, but bothered me. The techs and vets speak VERY loudly when in the exam room. When you have a scared animal, the last thing you want is someone walking in essentially shouting. I would definitely suggest that the staff at Ankeny Animal & Avian Clinic work on the way they interact with the animals. Overall, I would recommend this clinic. There are just a few things they could work on.

We took my Green Cheek Conure in for a wellness. The vet was so sweet and informative. She was everything you wanted for an exotic vet. She was able to give us amazing advice to keep our baby happy and healthy. The vet tech handled my small bird with care and was perfect as he tried to escape from their exam. We felt comfortable and informed at every step; from making the appointment to leaving after the exam. We will definitely be back!

I loved our first visit here! It’s a wonderful clinic with incredibly kind staff on all levels and experienced exotic doctors. Everyone is accommodating and the clinic is super clean. They go out of their way to do the little things for you that really add up and make the experience stand out. Dr. Stearns did great with my ratties and getting a yucky tooth taken care of, and answered all the questions I had for her :) We’ll definitely be coming back again!

They are amazing and care about each animal so much! The staff love my puppy and give her a bunch of treats. Very professional and take care of all your dogs problems. You can tell these people really care and love their job. They also give free water and coffee in their office!

Short summary at the end! I have a 5-year old cat with chronic eosinophilic granuloma. He has been to see many vets over his life for this problem. - just to give you an idea of my experience with vets. First, the room was lovely. It had a cat-tree in it and a rug. These things helped my very nervous little guy feel better. They took their time to allow my baby to get comfortable in the room. They spent some time with him themselves before doing anything just so he'd be more comfortable with them. They gave him lots of treats to help him see that this is a good place to be. - Their care and concern for their patient's comfort was PHENOMENAL. Truly, every staff member who interacted with my cat cared about his comfort and well-being. The examination was great. They were gentle while examining him, but also thorough. My guy was comfortable enough with it that they took the time to show me what the inside of his mouth was looking like - something he doesn't even let me look at. Of the handful of vets I've taken him to, these are the first ones that suggested he would benefit from a teeth cleaning and they are absolutely right in that suggestion. When they gave him his vaccine they had to poke him twice (he pulled away for the first one, not out of discomfort or pain, he just felt like stretching) and he didn't care about either needle insertion. They had him distracted with treats, so he didn't care. Eventually it was checkout time which was a breeze. They gave me a "new customer welcome" bag with a few goodies in it for both me and my cat. They made sure his prescribed medicine made it in the bag. I was also pleased with the price. For a thorough medical examination, two vaccines, and some medication the total came out to be around $125. This is comparatively similar to prices at the other vets we've been to, perhaps even cheaper, but these guys added so much more value than the other vets (not that the others were bad, but they weren't THIS good). In short - they provided excellent care for a great price. I trust them with my baby, and that isn't something I give out to anybody.

We had never been to this amazing facility before. Due to the fact that our vet clinic wasn’t able to get us in, we chose Ankeny Animal clinic. We are so glad we did. Our Yellow Lab had taken a turn for the worse. When I called they said to come right in. We did. We felt like the most important people and animal in the building. They took amazing care of Thor and us. We did have to put him to sleep but the care and professionalism of the entire clinic was exceptional. We will actually be changing the care of our other fur baby to Ankeny Animal clinic. Thank you for all you did for us. We are so grateful.

I brought in my new puppy who was not in great shape when I got him. Ankeny Animal&Avian Clinic staff were incredible with my Maverick. They were so patient, very kind, and informed me on how to make sure he is taken care of the right way. My puppy is in such better shape and can actually be a puppy thanks to the staff here. I have never been so impressed by a vet clinic, or their staff, before. They pride themselves on being a "fear free" clinic and live up to that standard. My dog is very nervous to get her nails clipped, so two staff members sat down with her to get her accustomed to their nail clippers and shower her with rewards. They didn't push her too hard, and made great progress with her. I very much look forward to getting my dog spayed in April. I have total confidence in the clinic and their staff. The atmosphere alone is so welcoming that it left me a bit speechless, and the care is so top notch, I told my dog she gets better healthcare than I do. (She didn't laugh.) Plus, they offer laser spays! No big swollen cuts to dread. I've had laser surgery myself and the healing was a breeze, AND they offer cool laser therapy immediately after surgery, to even further prevent swelling. I wouldn't hesitate for a second to recommend these guys to any pet parent. When I move out of state in a few months time, I hope I can find another high quality clinic to take my dog to! Gonna miss these guys.

Dr. Terri is so wonderful that we followed her from where she previously lived. They do great with keeping pets as calm and fear free as possible so my pets do well when dropped off even though they have had issues for previous vets. They also were very kind and empathetic when we had to put one of my cats down due to cancer. They helped us calm down over our loss, they didn't rush us even though it was closing time, and you can always tell they really care for the animals and are always understanding when one of my pets misbehave (urinating when placed in the crate, attempting to jump up/hide/run away, or hissing/barking). They completely understand when animals are scared and owners are just doing the best they can and they offer different choices that respect the family's needs.

They did a great job with our dog. We took her in just for a check up and to update her vaccines and they were awesome. My dog didn't even notice the pokes from the needles cause she was focused on the treats they were giving her. The whole appointment took less than 20 minutes and we were only in close contact with the vet and the vet tech. They are taking a lot of precautions with Covid. Great vet!

I have taken my ShihPoo here and my Shihranian Puppy and in my experience the staff is nice but the Vet’s are on the serious side. They don’t seem to like people in general. I’m just another crazy dog parent. I asked to have my puppy weighed without a harness on and the Vet seemed angry about it. Not sure how much longer I will take my fur babies here. My dogs are welcome but I’m not treated very well.

We have been using Ankeny Animal and Avian Clinic for a few years. They are always very caring and thoughtful. You can tell they truly love animals. Our bunny had tummy troubles and even though they didn't have appointments that day, they let us drop him off and then were able to see him right away. I really appreciate them working pets in.

We started taking our dog to see Dr Gigler for his behavioral issues/anxiety a few years ago, and have continued to use her as needed as his needs have evolved. She has always been responsive and changed to fit our challenges as best she can. She has not hesitated to consult other vets if needed and if something is beyond her expertise. The entire vet practice is friendly and always helpful. This is an excellent place to get veterinary care. We brought our senior dog in and we found out she needed to be put down and the vet was so sweet through the entire difficult process. She was even shedding tears with us. Its not easy to deliver that news but I am glad we were at this clinic, they made it as comforting as it could've been. They even sent us a Christmas ornament at the end of the year with her picture for our tree, it was above and beyond anywhere else I have ever been. When you go in for routine checkups it is easy to schedule and they send score card follow ups after the appointment. If I need to call to get a rabies certificate or any records they send it right over. Highly highly recommended!

One of the best vet places I've ever been to (and I've been to a lot). Dr. Gigler examined my cat, and she was so gentle and patient with him. He's a scared kitty when he goes to the vet, and she and Emily (the tech) got on the floor with him and let him hide as much as he could while they examined him. They're even making a note that he likes to hide for the next time I visit, to make it easier. Dr. Gigler really knew her stuff, and took a lot of time to listen to my concerns, and give me some suggestions as to what could be going on, as well as the next steps to take. We have lived in many different places and have been to a lot of vets and Ankeny Animal & Avian Clinic is by far one of the best, if not the best we have been to. I initially spoke with Olivia over the phone and told her my concerns with our dog and she was very sweet, listened to everything I had to say, and never rushed me. Dr. Barnes stayed 40 min. after closing one night during our dog's exam and called me later on that night to talk about blood work. You could tell she genuinely cared about figuring out what was going on with her. After one of our dog's procedures, Dr. Warren called and explained everything to me in depth, answered every question I had, and reassured me they would do whatever they needed to to get our dog feeling better. Before every appointment and procedure I was given estimates before proceeding and every person we worked with treated our dog as if she was their own. I couldn't recommend them more!

I’ve been taking Bentley here since he was 4 months. He’s always been a “problematic” little dog, and the staff has always greeted him with smiles and happiness. For 2 years they’ve always welcomed him with open arms, knowing full well they won’t get a break while he’s there. I recently got some pretty bad news regarding his health, more specifically his kidneys. Things escalated pretty quickly, and I had to make the decision to put my buddy down. I cant say enough great things about this place. I moved to Iowa and before I had a chance to find a new vet my dog hurt her leg and didn’t know where to go. I’m glad I picked Ankeny Animal & Avian Clinic. Honestly it’s the best animal clinic I have been to. From start to finish the staff was kind, caring and understanding. I felt comfortable leaving my dog alone with them because I knew she was in good hands. If you don’t go to Ankeny Animal & Avian Clinic then you’re missing out on the towns best Clinic. -The atmosphere is very clean and uplifting. A nice area to sit and wait while your pet is getting taken care of. -Free Coffee, tea and snacks. While not critical , I think it says something about their level of customer service. It feels like they care about us here. Just from being a first time customer I received a goodie bag filled with treats for my pup and a few things for me. -Prices are very fair and the staff is transparent about all charges before they are incurred. I never felt like they try to upsell me on things my dog doesn’t need. Thank you, keep up the great work!

We have had such a positive experience with taking our cat to Ankeny Animal and Avian Clinic. They are thorough, caring, and truly seem to care about our cat's health. They listen to our concerns and provide realistic solutions to the health concerns. We are specifically having our cat treated for feline diabetes and high blood pressure and the experience for both has been excellent. For those with cats, you will appreciate that they have a separate entrance for cats and don't require you to sit in a waiting room with dogs while your cat freaks out (like mine does). Friendly staff, service ranges depending on who you are working with. I have never left there feeling great about my visit with our well-behaved dog, especially after the visit where they cut nails too short, making them bleed and brought her out to the front area smearing some blood on the floor and at front desk were trying to stop the bleeding. They seem to go excessively above and beyond to care for your dog, which is fine if you have a deep pocketbook. I never came out of there with less than $100 bill and ultimately had to find a vet that was both good AND halfway affordable.

Paws down the best experience at at vets office. They are so friendly and accommodating to you and your pet. They do a very good thorough exam of our dog. She had a bump on her nose the vet told us all the things it could be and where we could start for treatment. They gave our baby girl treats and loves to make her feel more comfortable. Our 17 lb. dog was attacked by a 100 lb. dog on a Sunday, when our regular vet's office is closed. So we called Ankeny Animal and Avian Clinic and the veterinarian met us there right away. What excellent, thorough treatment our little dog received! We're so thankful. The vet assessed the bite wounds, and explained exactly why some wounds were less of a concern. Also, the vet listened to our dog internally, and checked his ribs and legs, one of which is tender. The worst bite was treated with three staples, and we received clear instructions about administering an antibiotic and pain med. necessary. The vet also helped us understand what to expect the days after, and if we needed to stay home from work the next day to monitor him. This could have been much worse, and we and our dog received kindness, along with the veterinary care. Kudos to Ankeny Animal and Avian Clinic.

Just took in my three pet fancy rats for a wellness check and for treatment of an eye infection. I was referred from the ISU small animal hospital and I can honestly say it was the best veterinarian experience I have ever had. The veterinarian and her assistant were extremely thorough in checking every individual rat and they seemed very knowledgable of rat care. No one seemed to be fearful at all of my rats, even after I said that one tends to bite. I went in expecting the visit to be expensive, especially because two needed medication, but I felt that the price was very justifiable (and much better than ISU) even just for the level of care that my rats received. 100% recommend this clinic for pet fancy rats.

I came to this clinic as an emergency due to my cats paws . Come to find out that his declaw surgery went extremely wrong an my cats paws were rotting away. I was devastated to hear how much my cat was in pain. This clinic worked well around my schedule and they have great affordable prices given the treatment that was required. There were months of laser treatments and pain killers an check in’s. Thanks to them an their great staff my cats paws have recovered an we did not have to amputate. I am truly grateful to the doctors and staff who helped heal my poor cat. They really care and get to know your pet on a personal level which I absolutely love .

My first visit was this past Saturday and I was immediately greeted by extremely kind and helpful staff who seem to really care about their clients, patents and their work! The waiting room was very clean and had a nice divide between the K9 and Feline waiting area. The exam room had a big cat tree in it and toys so that my cat could explore for a bit and get more comfortable before the vet came in which I loved! They even took a picture of my guy and gave it to me on a laminated business card! The vet, Dr. Gigler was incredibly kind and easy to talk to and did a great job handling my cat. Review for the dog behavioral training. After an incident with my large dog and a smaller dog it was recommended that I work with a behavioral trainer to be sure the incident wouldn't happen again. Emily Blythe was a magic worker! We worked with her for 10 weeks (2- 5 weeks sessions) and the difference in my dog is incredible. She is better able to control her impulses, she follows instruction quickly, and she is better behaved overall. I highly recommend this service if your dog has impulse control, aggression, or just needs to be taught a few manners.

Everyone at Ankeny Animal & Avian Clinic treats our pets like family when we visit. They have always been wonderful and in particular I would recommend Emily, their behavior consultant. She is fantastic and we can't thank her enough for all the progress she helped us make with our dog Rufus. He has some fear-based reactivity and we were at our wit's end trying to keep him and strangers safe - including people we passed on the street and guests in our home. Emily taught us so much about understanding cues Rufus was giving us that we weren't previously picking up on, and structuring situations to set him up for success. In the time since our sessions, we have continued working on the things we learned from Emily and Rufus has made such big strides in his behavior. He and we are so much happier now! We will definitely hire her again and would recommend her to anyone looking for help with their dog's behavior, or even just to improve their communication and relationship with their pet.

Such a great clinic to take your beloved fur babies to! The staff is awesome and so very caring. I've taken my dog to get her nails trimmed a few times, for a yearly check up, and just the other day for her very first dental cleaning. I was called after the procedure was done and told that she did great, and even got a picture of her texted to me after she was awake! A member of the staff explained how everything went, gave me a little packet with before and after pictures, and let me know how sweet my puppy girl was. I also got a goodie bag with a bandana, food sample, greenie, and toothbrush and paste! The staff even called me the next day to check how she was doing. I would definitely recommend bringing your pets here, so glad I tried this place first once I moved to Ankeny. I cannot say enough good things!

After using another vet in Ankeny for some time, I began to look elsewhere when I heard the rave reviews about Ankeny Animal and Avian Clinic. They aren’t wrong. Every vet and technician that I have met are friendly and helpful, always greeting me with a smile and kind word. Dr. Faulkner has always been so patient with my skitterish dog. The vets and technicians really do enact a “fear free” practice. When I have brought my cat in they were gentle and calm with her, giving her space when she needed it and talking to her in a soothing voice. What really sealed the deal for me about this practice was my visit yesterday with Dr. Argotsinger (and I believe the technician Emily). I brought my ferret in and was treated with empathy during the entire visit. My baby ended up needing to be put to sleep, and Dr. Argotsinger assured me several times that it was the best decision. She could tell that I felt guilty and spoke to me honestly but kindly. During the entire process she gave me the time I needed, walked me through what was happening, and treated my pet in the most tender and compassionate way I have ever encountered at a clinic. As long as I live near Ankeny Animal and Avian I will never go to another vet.

Honestly shocked at any negative reviews on here. The clinic and all of their staff are amazing. They have taken very good care of all four of pups. They've been through us with a parvovirus battle and a laryngeal paralysis surgery and many other things. The entire staff stayed late with our Max so we could take Bo home before heading off to the emergency room. After our parvo battle with our puppy survivor Bo, I would never think of going anywhere else.

They have cat rooms with soft music to soothe the kitties. They also have treats and have a cat pheromone dispenser to help calm my cats. However this time around my sister took her dog in and they were adamant that what was wrong was a flea allergic reaction. This dog doesn't have fleas. It took some arguing and prompting to even get this vet to do a skin test. Once the test results came back we found out she had a severe skin infection. The vet proscribed pain meds and flea meds. The infection never went away and has only gotten worse. This is the best pet clinic I've ever been to, but this particular vet would not listen to the pet owner.

They even called in another vet just to see my dog. I was crying and not able to give them much info over the phone, but all the staff were very nice and helped my dog right away. It's not the cheapest place in Ankeny to go, but I won't go anywhere else now. My dog's check ups are thorough, more than 5 minutes, and all their staff can answer my questions. The Animal Behaviorist at the AAAC is fantastic. We have a very reactive dog that would not have done well in a group setting. Emily realized this and set up private training (for us as much as Bandit) that allowed him to be successful. Always patient, she took the time to explain what was going on in our dog’s brain, why the strategies would help, and provided feedback to help us master the skills. When we started, Bandit would lose his mind if another dog came within 50 yards. After 5 customized sessions, he was able to approach within 8 feet of another dog without reacting. Emily gets our highest recommendation.

We have been going to Doc Faulkner and our extended family at Ankeny Animal and Aviary for about 15 years. They have been there for the best of times and the hardest. We have had eight rescued Doberman Pinschers over the years. Docs amazing surgical skills has saved two of our girls. He helped us understand when it was time to say goodbye to my boy. The wonderful staff treats everyone like family (the good kind). Dr Barnes is a great diagnostic vet adding years to our dobies lives. Dr Gigler is an excellent vet too. But the best thing about Ankeny Animal and Aviary Clinic is the fact that they truly care about the health and lives of our "families" and seem to put that above all else. I have two Dobie girls over eleven and one over seven. One of our boys lived past thirteen. Bless them all. You couldn't find a better veterinarian or clinic.

Our dog had a terrible case of diarrhea and vomiting recently and we rushed her to an urgent care clinic. After the urgent care visit it was recommended that we get an ultrasound if her symptoms worsened. The urgent care didn’t have enough availability to get an ultrasound done soon and so I reached out to Ankeny Animal and Avian Clinic with an urgent request for an ultrasound. Even though we are currently out of state and do not use this clinic since we live in Arkansas, they immediately accommodated our ask and asked us to bring her in first thing in the morning. Once we reached the clinic, the front desk staff was attentive and amazing. They took detailed notes about our dogs issue and gave me a sense of what the total bill could look like! After we dropped our dog off, the doctor (I think it was Dr.Terri) called me and discussed my various options to help figure out what’s wrong with our dogs digestion and also gave me a detailed explanation of what we would be able to infer versus not at that time. I really really appreciated her detailed explanation as we are extremely paranoid parents and just having her expert and detailed information really helped us understand the state of the state and what the different treatments could be based on what she finds. She also immediately called me after the ultrasound with results and next steps. Just an awesome clinic and a great doctor. Would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a vet.
