Reviews of MedVet Chicago
Lori E Hile
My dog, Sophie, had a tumor in one of her parathyroid glands and had to have one of the glands removed. After it was removed, my dog would have to stay at the hospital for two nights, to have her calcium levels monitored – – and then be tested every few days for a few weeks, to make sure her levels stabilized. This is a rare condition — so we went to MedVet, which has one of the few surgeons in the state who handle this.
Sophie's surgeon, Dr. Aaron Jackson, was the best part of this whole process. He's not only one of the most experienced and knowledgeable specialty veterinary surgeons out there (patients from multiple states visit him), but he never stops learning--about advances in veterinary medicine or just other random areas of interest.
But what really sets him apart is how kind and accessible he is. He immediately puts his patients (and their owners) at ease, listening to and validating concerns while also helping to dispel them with clear explanations and solid scientific information.
And whenever I called the surgery department with a question--he'd personally call me back within an hour, and he responded to emails just as quickly. He genuinely didn't seem to mind talking through my long lists of queries ("I'd be more concerned if you didn't have any questions; carving open a body and removing a body part is not natural.").
He says what drives him most is his desire to help people, and that's immediately apparent. Thank you, Dr. Jackson, for helping save my precious Sophie.
The "nurses" at MedVet were also lovely and gave Sophie exquisite care when she had to stay overnight for two nights at the hospital.
I’m pleased to say that the surgery was a success! The tumor was removed – – and Sophie’s calcium levels have now stabilized.
I can’t speak to the emergency services at MedVet – – but my experience with the specialty surgery department was a positive one.

I was a bit skeptical about the hospital when I read a few of the reviews, however I felt completely different once I arrived, My husband and I was treated with much empathy, they were compassionate and caring every step of the way I was there to put my 17 year old pit Coco down who was very sick, needless to say this was a very hard decision for my family, Medvet helped us with all of our questions and concerns the entire staff was kind and respectful. I appreciated all they did to comfort us during such a difficult time.

MedVet is a great asset to Chicago. My Weim had an ulcerated cyst that my regular vet kept not wanting to deal with. I decided to take my momma to MedVet because the cyst kept cracking and growing. The entire staff was extremely friendly and pet-centered. A Vet Tech came and talked to me within 5 minutes upon arrival. Ten minutes later I was placed in an examination room and waited in there for nearly an hour before the vet came in. She explained the triage process which made complete sense. She had already examined my girl and developed a treatment plan. Dr. Faletti spent time answering my questions and again explained to me the triage process. She made me feel comfortable with my decisions. In a nutshell, you could tell she knew what she was talking about and I immediately developed a trust in her advice. She recommended that we wait in the waiting room because she had some more urgent patients to see and thought we would be more comfortable out there (she was right). We ended up waiting nearly 6 hours before she brought my girl back out to me to go home. Yes, a 6 hour wait was unexpected and not communicated well enough. I will say however, that I saw the cases come in while we were waiting for hours, and I definitely wanted those other pups in crisis to move to the front of the line. I was happy to wait 6 hours if it meant that the vets were helping other patients that needed it more. This place knows what they are doing and they have some of the best vets in the nation working here. Are their prices high? I don't know, but there is no value I can place on my dog and her health. Watching this staff for 6+ hours gave me a great insight into what they are doing here and exactly how well they do it. Kudos to all the staff (including the security guard). They all love animals here and it shows.

We were there twice in one night/morning. It was a wait the first time, but I've never been to an emergency vet where there wasn't a wait. The second visit my little guy was so sick and weak I carried him in wrapped in a beach towel. The reception person called back STAT and a tech came and took my dog right back.
I had to put him down... But the staff was very kind to me. They asked me to pay up front so I wouldn't have to deal with it after. I've done that, this was easier for me. They explained exactly what was going to happen, and gave me a much time as I wanted. The vet came in and did the process, telling me what she was doing each step. They offered to let me stay in the room with him afterward if I wanted. It was a horrible night but at least they were kind.

We cannot thank Medvet staff from the front desk to all the vets that worked with our girl over the weekend to get her feeling better and able to come home with us. Every phone call made us feel better and better about the situation and that you were able to take her with such short notice too. Even when you guys got busy you made sure she was comfy and checked on. She is already getting back to her normal self, wanting to chase all the chipmunks and squirrels in the yard even when we tell her not to

I'm very grateful for the good care my cats have received from the ER and specialists at MedVet.
Dr Portela is awesome. She explained to me about lymphoma and what could be expected. She noted that while Yodel's lymphoma is under control and he is responding well to medication, his diabetes is not under control and helped to facilitate an appointment with an internist. She also gave me some good tips on how to administer medicine and also showed me which enabled me to give medicine more easily. Thank you Dr Portela for the outstanding ongoing care of Yodel.
Dr Miller is wonderful and was able to recommend dry food that is good for diabetics. I'm very thankful that Dr Miller understood that Yodel likes to eat dry food and was able to suggest good dry food that he could eat (since he had a full mouth extraction, he has trouble eating some food) as well as some good wet food. With the changed diet, Yodel's numbers are lower than they've been in a while and I'm sure they will continue improving as Dr Miller adjusts the insulin etc. I'm very happy that Yodel's diabetes is coming under control again.
Dr Patel in ER was fantastic when Watson wasn't eating and was lethargic. She ran bloodwork, gave fluids and also said that she could do x-rays but they probably wouldn't reveal much. I appreciated her letting me know the various options etc. I was also impressed with the triage system and how efficient it was.
Dr King is very knowledgeable. He noted that since Watson wasn't responding as well as expected to the initial medication, he was going to add on more medicine. With the additional medicine, Watson is doing much better. I'm very grateful Dr King is providing on going care for Watson and keeping the uveitis under control.
I'm also very grateful that Dr Krug found out what was wrong with Raisin. I was sad to have found out that in addition to lymphoma, Raisin had bone cancer that was very advanced. I wasn't expecting to have had to put down Raisin so soon since the lymphoma was under control, but I am grateful for the compassionate care and finding out what was wrong with Raisin, meant he no longer had to suffer.
If you need specialist or emergency care, I highly recommend Medvet. They really care about people's pets and are fantastic at treating them. All things considered, they are very reasonably priced.

We brought our very sick, elderly cat Burberry to MedVet on Saturday night. Everything possible was done to make her comfortable, diagnose and treat her illnesses, and communicate often with us about her condition. Alas, her body was ready to call it a life and shut down, as more and more issues manifested themselves. Today we said goodbye to her, and she expired on my lap. My endless thanks especially to Dr. Wesley for unfailingly professional, compassionate care and helpful communication throughout, and to all who kept Burberry comfortable. I would not hesitate to recommend MedVet Chicago for emergency and critical vet care or any of the other services they offer.

My cat was suspected with breast cancer so we were referred by the vet to MedVet for surgery. After some thorough searches on doctors' profiles, qualifications, and specialties, I made an appointment for my cat Alissa to see Dr. Godfrey in the surgery department, and that was my best decision ever. Throughout the entire treatment, Dr. Godfrey always put Alissa's health above everything else - she scheduled the surgery as soon as she can because she doesn't want any delay to cause the cancer to spread; she went above and beyond to reduce the complexity of the procedures so Alissa doesn't have to suffer additional pain from the surgery; she is also extremely knowledgeable, meticulous, very caring - she really treats Alissa like her own cat. Last but not least, she has superb surgical technique that really helped tremendously on Alissa's speedy recovery. I can't express enough how grateful I am to Dr. Godfrey, Emma and the entire surgical team. They are the best of the best!!!

We are incredibly grateful that we were referred to MedVet. We wish we had found them on the first night of our dog's medical emergency. We were able to get an appointment within 24 hours, were admitted at our appointment time, and were discharged within 2 hours. The team in ophthalmology was warm, caring, professional and compassionate. Our options were discussed and outlined in detail, pricing was clearly explained, and all of the medication we required was provided on site. We feel fortunate that our dog is being cared for by a team with such expertise (thank you Dr. King and Gabriel) and are relieved to know that all follow up care and additional treatments/surgeries can be provided within this facility. When we had follow up concerns the team responded to our message within the hour. We appreciate their continued kindness, professionalism and attention.

We had a really positive experience today with MedVet Chicago. Obviously nobody ever wants to be here, but when you come in, you’re treated with compassion and great care for your pet. Wait times can be long, but they do a really good job of prioritizing the most urgent cases, and tonight, there were unfortunately a lot of urgent cases. My dog was treated very thoroughly and with great care and compassion. The vet did a great job explaining the diagnosis and treatment options, with all cost information up front. I would recommend MedVet to anyone who finds themselves in an emergency situation with their pet.

Thankfully, I haven't had to use an emergency vet very often. Of the few places I've been, MedVet offered exceptional customer service and care that truly made a difference. I recently had to put down my ancient, beloved rescue dog after 12 wonderful years together. Everyone from the front desk staff, to the vet tech, to the doctor were incredibly kind and helpful during a really tough time. The way they treated my pup and me felt reassuring and compassionate. I just received a handwritten sympathy card in the mail from the MedVet team. This was so touching, I felt compelled to write a review. I am very grateful I chose to go to them.

This is the best hospital I’ve ever been to, I can’t thank them enough. After my puppy was hit by a car, BluePearl in Northfield told us to euthanize her. We took her here, turns out she had very minor injuries. The costs were very transparent, we were regularly updated on the situation and a few hours later walked out with with our puppy.

First I will say they are not cheap but I will say I felt they were honest with me. I brought in my Cane Corso/ pitmix for a second opinion after being diagnosed with Mastcell cancer. The first vet we went to wanted to open him up and cut everything out immediately and he might survive a year they said. Then we took him to MedVet, they examed and gave us a couple options and cost for surgery and chemo(could not afford that) BUT... The Dr told us that he wouldn't suggest surgery. He said once they open, it will spread. We choose not to do anything. I put him on high doses of CBD oil and he's still around 4yrs later with a few new masses. I would recommend MedVet.

Staff is super courteous and diligent. The clinic was super busy the night we were there and they did a good job of managing it.
Dr. Fulton was amazing. She handled some really tough conversations with grace and didn't push us to spend unnecessarily. Her bedside manner is impeccable.
We were there for 4 hours. The waiting room was comfortable, had coffee and vending machines.

Cardiologist, Dr. Luethy and staff are amazing. I have been going to this clinic for several years, even though I live in the south suburbs. Top notch care for my dog, Madison.

I’ve interacted with nearly all departments over the last several months and all of the doctors and nurses seem very knowledgeable and caring. And everyone is good about communicating in a compassionate and relatable manner.
I brought my dog in one day because I thought she might have eaten something that she wasn’t passing but she ended up needing emergency surgery because of a whole in her diaphragm. And then she took over a week to recover after the surgery and was in the critical care the entire time, and now we’ve met with the internal medicine group several times for follow.
I can’t think the staff enough for taking care of my baby like she was there own.

Our first visit here was last year 2020 around right at the beginning of quarantine. Doby was our 9years old starting having seizures one day, they continued throughout that same day. We had to get her to the vet. This was the time when you couldn’t go in with your pet// you had to stay in the parking lot & wait until the visit was complete. MedVet nurses that day made it truly an easy process. After many doctors visit she was diagnosed with Epilepsy. We new that meant we only had a short time with her. The seizures & her anxiety really took a lot out of her by this year. She was getting sicker & sicker by the day. What are you supposed to do? Where are you supposed to go? The anxiety of having to helping our girl to rest was real. We called our vet they couldn’t see us for a few weeks. Recommend we call MEDVET. We were nervous we didn’t know what to expect. They made the process truly nothing like we ever could have expected. We had a private room to say our GOODBYEs privately, & as a family. That’s all we wanted. Our girl deserved that respect she was part of the family. As part of the service we also paid for the URN & they provide a free Paw 🐾 Print. ♥️♥️ We truly thank the nurses & especially the VET they made us feel like family. ♥️♥️ Took care of our girl

Little on pricey side but when u love your pet and it's a true emergency this is the place to go . My nano bully Mz Peaches go stung by a bee and swelled up so bad she was having a hard time breathing . They took her straight back and patched her up and now she's doing great . I'm glad they are here and I am confident in the level of care I receive here .

I was referred to MedVet by my cat’s primary care veterinarian after he had incorrect diagnoses from three other veterinarians. I had brought my cat into the ER the morning of 11/28 due to a limp tail and progressive hind legs weakness over the past 10 days (while being misdiagnosed since day one). He was admitted within an hour, saw a neurologist that afternoon, received an MRI, and was operated on to perform spinal decompression surgery for a herniated disk all within the same day. My cat was set to come home on 11/30 but he had unfortunately became anemic that morning. I am beyond thankful to Elise who was keeping a close eye on him to notice the change and get him to one of the emergency veterinarian’s for a blood transfusion that saved his life. My cat became a critical care patient where he was being very closely monitored for any changes. Over the next two days he had drastically improved and was ready to come home. I was provided several phone updates from the ER vet, neurologist, critical care vet, and various nurses during his stay. I received a comprehensive physical therapy plan with videos that could be performed at home before he was discharged. All staff members I interacted with were detailed in their explanations, let me ask a million questions, were honest about his prognosis, and didn’t minimize my cat’s declining physical abilities prior to the surgery.
Thank you to Dr. Niman and the neurology team for performing the MRI and immediately taking him into surgery, Dr. Nguyen for taking swift action in providing a life saving blood transfusion, Dr. Pearson for taking him on as a critical care case when he needed extra specialized support, nurses Elise, Danielle, Kayla, Alexander, Corina, Jasmine, and Margaret for providing me updates and pictures while he was recovering, Dr. Volbrecht for listening to my concerns about the problems my cat was experiencing and understanding the urgency, the physical rehabilitation team for putting together a really great PT plan, Yasmin for providing super detailed discharge instructions, and all of the other people behind the scenes with whom I didn’t directly interact. I am so grateful to the staff at this clinic for helping my cat. I truly feel like everyone who worked with him cared about my cat’s well being just as much as I do.

Emergency vet hospitals aren't the place that anyone wishes to visit, but when you have to, it's good to know places like this exist. We went on a Sunday morning, and although there weren't a lot of people waiting, they made it clear it may take a few hours to see a vet. I wasn't too bothered because it was clean, spacious (with a separate car waiting area), and given the complexity and sensitivity of the animals that were coming in, you could see how dedicated they were in caring for many animals who came in desperate need, and for those who unfortunately were at the end of life. The triage nurse came out and sat with me to go over the issues with my dog, and even sat on the floor with him to really show genuine care. We got into an exam room sooner than expected, and while they took him to do a full exam in the back, the vet addressed my concerns in a very kind and matter-of-fact manner, making sure I knew my options and only recommending what was really needed. Obviously it was pricier than a trip to the vet, but they alleviated my worry knowing that I could get great care for my dog.

I normally don't do reviews, but everyone who has helped me at Medvet has been really kind. Dr. Delgado and the techs took care of Louie on Memorial Day. I've never had to leave my dog in the hospital overnight/take them to the ER and it was comforting that I knew I could call and ask how he was. Most vets won't do anything without a purpose and just know they do have the best intentions. Thank you to everyone who took care of him. He's doing great at home and he sends his love!

The team at Med Vet is a shining example of everything specialists in pet care should be. From drop off to pick up, each team member who helped us was calm, kind, and caring, cheery. Dr. Schrage performed the biopsy and did not proceed with some of the scoped work as she saw it was not fitting to my cat's situation. Her knowledge of and sensitivity to these details is much appreciated. Scheduling radiation oncology as soon as possible, I have a great feeling about my experience at Med Vet and definitely recommend.

I took my cat Lola to MedVet because she was having trouble breathing. I was told there would be a 4 hour wait. But my Lola was seen right away. The vet was great and she gave me different options, but I knew that I didn't want my baby to suffer (she was FeLV positive). The room where she was euthanized was so calming and they were all so kind to her. I'm giving 3 stars because of the rude receptionist. I missed the initial call (while in the waiting room) from the vet and couldn't pronounce her name and the receptionist looked like I was annoying her. She wouldn't make eye contact with me. I could tell she didn't want to help me and to you I say you made an already horrible day worse.
But thank you to the kind vet and vet techs who helped my baby.

We visited the Opthalmologist and they were excellent. Our appointment was right on time. Tara was very personable and great with my dog. Dr King was quick but I didn't feel rushed. He explained everything well, then asked if I had any questions. I left feeling very good about the treatment plan.

Dr. Fulton and the team couldn’t have been more kind and thorough with me and my senior spitfire cat who had been seen twice at our primary vet. They kept the both of us calm, prescribed and performed effective treatment for my cats impacted bowel. Although we had to wait a few hours, I knew they were triaging more serious patients. I am so very grateful that my li’l buddy is on her way back to health.

Love this place. I've had some adventures with my puppy eating foreign objects or getting sick. I've been here for small issues but recently my pup was hospitalized which was very scary. They were awesome through it all. Very knowledgeable thoughtful and compassionate. They even let me and my kids visit our pup in the hospital. They were great. They are expensive but they are worth it.

My son and I took his cat in the early hours because she wasn't acting right. Veterinarian and nurse was very honest about our options and our decision to put her to sleep. They were very supportive and caring with us. Thx for making our decision a little easier. She will be missed

Came here Sunday night after an abscess on my dogs leg burst and decided not to wait for my own vet to open Monday, especially since there's no guarantee they can get you in quickly. I'm a bit torn as I did have to wait six hours which was frustrating, but I understand this wasn't an emergency and what were clearly more critical cases did come in. Sitting where I could see the hallway of exam rooms it did not seem like much was happening but they don't do the exam in front of you, at least for me they took my pup to a back area which seemed a bit odd to me. Front desk staff and vet were very friendly. Seems they know prices are much higher and do recommend any follow-up is done by your own vet.

The sweetest & most caring staff are here. Wonderful people. Such a lovely place when you're in a stressful situation with your fur baby.

I had the opportunity for my dog to be seen by Dr. Andrew Nguyen. They were incredible busy that evenings, but Dr. Nguyen made us feel very cared for and heard. My dog needed to be hospitalized and unfortunately they were all full that evening. Dr. Nguyen called around to other emergency hospitals and got us swiftly transferred. He even called the next day to see how my dog was doing. I would definitely return and am very grateful for the experience I had at MedVet.
Witold Moskal
Quality care even though the the wait times may be significant, i.e. 6hrs+. The clinical staff is top notch. They take really good care of the pets. I hope my pets won't need to go back there anytime soon, but if they do I will choose MedVet without a question.
James Bradach (Jameson)
I brought my cat in for breathing problems. I was devastated to learn that his condition was so advanced that euthanasia was the most humane option.
The staff were absolutely fantastic the whole time. They were extremely compassionate and understanding. While my visit was heartbreaking, I am glad I came here. They did their best to make everything as easy as possible.
Thank you, MedVet

I never leave reviews, but definitely wanted others to know about MedVet.
I unexpectedly lost my nine year old Australian Shepherd a couple days before Christmas. From start to finish, MedVet was nothing but compassionate. In that horrible situation, they took such great care of my Quinn till his last moments. They expressed their deepest sympathies and even sent a card. When I when to pick up his ashes, the presentation was so beautiful. They even had his paw print made, which I can’t even express how grateful I am for that.
MedVet showed such kindness during a horrible time. Cannot say enough good things about them.

The clinical staff here are competent and caring. Kudos to each. I trusted their recommendations. That said, nearly every single time I've had to reach out via phone to MedVet I've had an unpleasant experience. The individuals tasked with taking/transferring calls and scheduling appointments have been less than friendly and I felt like I've had to jump through hoops to get what I needed when I spoke with them. Based on my last interaction, I think I would only come back due to absolute necessity. I have used this facility intermittently over a span of nearly 10 years with different pets and this experience has been largely consistent. For me, the hassle of interacting with front-of-house staff here is no longer worth it. There are other Emergency Vet companies which are equally competent/ caring and whose front-of-house staff appear less troubled by assisting a client in need.

Our 14-year-old chihuahua, Sadie, was taken to MedVet for emergency treatment due to a heart condition she had been diagnosed with two years prior. We hadn't even checked in before the staff took her back and started working on whatever they could do to save her. They kept us informed every step of the way and provided us with every option possible. Unfortunately, no matter what could have been done by the doctors, she was not going to survive. That was in no part due to MedVet or the level of care she received, it was simply the reality of her disease and original life expectancy. We had Sadie cremated. When I went to pick up her remains, I had no idea what to expect. She was presented in a lovely carved box, and they had made a paw stamp as well with her name. I’m confident she was treated with the dignity and respect she so deserved.

I panicked after my cat ate onion laden stuffing Thanksgiving evening. He puked it all up and then refused to eat or drink anything for the next two days. I took him in to get looked at and the staff there was very calm and understanding of my concerns. The doctor explained everything very clearly and was very conscious of the financial burden everyone seems to be going through.
My cat is fine now (he just got severely dehydrated from eating so much salty food), and the facility even worked with me on paying the remainder of my bill.
Thanks everyone!

We had our first brush with emergency health issues for our 9 year old lab, and the staff was nothing short of amazing during this difficult time. While she was kept for an inpatient stay and imaging, we were kept updated and could call to check on her status anytime. Her nurses were so kind and we had no doubt they were caring for her like their own. We had no idea there were vet specialists for neurology or cardiology concerns but we’re so glad to find experts here in Chicago to provide the best care possible for our pup. We were able to transfer her from our local ER vet within 24 hours of her first seizure and had diagnostic and prophylactic treatment plans set up within 30-60 mins of arriving. We will be going back to MedVet for all future emergency and speciality needs.

Very friendly and knowledgeable staff with a massive facility that can probably tackle any pet issue ever. I’ve never seen such an offering for pets before. They seriously have a pet acupuncture program 👀
Our frenchie got into some toxic junk and then broke its knee the same week, they were able to provide quick and knowledgeable assistance in a very timely matter. Would recommend!

While the staff was nice enough and the DR very nice and helpful, the prices were outrageous. They were six times what the referring vet was going to charge (we thought it be in the best interest of my dog to go someplace with a laser capable of doing a stenosis surgery rather than the old scalpel). SIX times. $6000 for a neuter and a myriad of other items that my dog may or may not need. For that price I thought they would give him a new head!
While they do make this clear, they charge a $193 consultation fee. I suspect they charge this because they know many will not be able to afford their actual services, so they are making up for that with this “consult” fee. It feels a bit like a grift. So if you plan on visiting this place for your pet’s surgical needs be aware that they are charging a HUGE up charge for specialty services and a new facility.

Called them ahead of time. We're told the expected wait time, we waited less than 10mins. Were seen by the vet after a quick history with the nurse. Had to leave our dog overnight without issues. Great care.

The reviews complaining about the price of this place aren't exactly wrong, but they're pretty on par with most emergency animal services in the area. Both of my cats were treated for potential lily ingestion, and from the moment I walked in everyone was so, so warm and understanding.
To treat both of them aggressively would have cost $8,000, which the vet promptly assured me she wouldn't expect me to put down that kind of money. We came up with a slightly less aggressive treatment plan on an outpatient basis for the cat that we didn't suspect ate the lily and kept the one that we did suspect in the hospital overnight. I put down a $3,000 deposit and they reimbursed me $1,500 after releasing my second cat earlier than anticipated.
As a pet parent, I felt so heard, listened to, comforted and respected. The money I spent was a small price to pay for the lives and wellbeing of my fur babies. MedVet quite literally saved their lives and helped me do it in a way that didn't completely bankrupt me. They helped us all through a tremendously stressful and scary situation and we're all grateful <3

The staff was amazingly friendly. We ended up having to put down our pup unexpectedly, and not only were they compassionate, they offered us so much assistance and counseling during the entire process. I cannot think of anyone else that I would have gone to for such a sad milestone in my family's lives

Everyone was professional kind and understanding they treated all of us with compassion. Thank you so very much

We were taken in for treatment fairly quickly. Place is clean, bright, and staff was friendly, caring, and helpful. As it is an emergency 24 hour vet hospital, be prepared for pricing to be on the high side. The care given was very good.

Technicians and Dr's were wonderful people, answered all my questions and listened diligently to my concerns. The admin staff were funny, kind, and eased me through the process of checking in and out. They were responsive to my follow up calls and gave me advice on what to do next when my cat's symptoms persisted.
I waited 6 hours for my pet to be discharged because they were not paying attention when he peed, and i gave authorization for them to do a urine test to see if he has a UTI/Kidney issue.
So, they made me leave even though he was not treated, just sat in a kennel waiting. The technician Tia, (fantastic person) seemed very frustrated about missing the window for my cat, and I couldn't really tell if she was frustrated at herself or fellow staff members or just in general, but she admitted it was a frustrating situation and commiserated with me.
I had to return 2 hours later for him to receive actual treatment when his symptoms were worse. (Incurring a second fee of $200, which I hope is paying the wages of the people who looked after my cat.) They promptly took my cat in and treated him, and were able to get urine and send a sample to a lab.
Today is day 2, I will have to return for a 3rd time and hopefully something will be done to help my cat. His symptoms have continued, and no call about lab results yet.
They gave me pain meds, but the meds aren't helping at all, he is still screaming and straining.
I will update following the next visit!
Overall, nice staff, comfortable facility, and good communication with clients, albeit a bit of a mess with internal procedure.
Updated!!
I've now been to MedVet 4 times this past week.
My cat is recovering and the following 2 times I've went were pleasant, my cat was treated quickly and his meds are helping.
Dr. Moll was very thorough and answered all my questions diligently and gave me a range of treatment options with cost estimates so I would not be surprised upon check out. She recommended further treatment and discussed hypotheticals of worse case and best case scenarios.
Overall, my cat is recovering and I'm glad we came to MedVet.

The techs, nurses and front desk are incredibly helpful and friendly. Particularly loved the social worker they provided to comfort you in the waiting room. However, all of the good things were kind of overshadowed by our terrible experience with the ER vet that night, Dr. Alicea Klemas. Our dog was taken in for stomach issues and after 5 hours of tests and waiting, she ran a bunch of tests only to tell us he was dehydrated (obvious since he was in the ER for consistently throwing up) however she had not administered any fluids… She was incredibly rude and insensitive when we asked any questions and wasn’t thorough with her explanation of treatment options. She also didn’t look at his file we brought in from his primary vet and we were discharged with a medication that our primary vet has specifically asked our dog not be on… Again had a lovely experience with everyone else at MetVet and it’s a great option for 24 hour ER care and specialist treatment, but I 100% would not allow our dog to be in her care again.

This could be a very long review, but let me just say that they were incredible every step of the way in the traumatic process of putting my elderly boy doggie to sleep. I called several times beforehand and every time was provided in-depth, relevant and accurate information while at the same time being treated in the most respectful, compassionate way by the staff on the phone. This continued when we finally went in person, with everyone - from the reception staff to the counselor to the doctor - was extremely courteous, respectful and compassionate. We were immediately provided with a private room, were allowed to take all the time in the world every step of the way, received incredible supportive and informative counseling by Felicia (amazing, can't gush enough about her!) and even the doctor was amazing in that she stopped to put Oskar's little tongue back in his mouth in between the first sedative and the final one when it popped out and made him look grotesque. The cost of the service was literally half of that at my vet and not to mention the other emergency service we were considering. The flexibility of being able to go in when we felt ready (if you can ever be ready) and not doing this on someone's rigid 9-5 schedule was a great relief and comfort. Lastly, when I received Oskar's remains, the urn, the paw prints and the way they were handled by the staff were again discrete, respectful and courteous. MedVet's staff made this incredibly painful and traumatic event much easier to bear with their compassion, their support and their reasonable costs that were free of upsells or rushing. THANK YOU!

My dog broke her paw and our regular vet could not take care of this and sent us to MedVet. We were waiting for about 1-2 hours to be seen by the doctor which is understandable because there were many other pet owners waiting as well. The doctor took an X-Ray of the paw and confirmed that it was broken. We were offered couple treatments options - one was much more affordable, and the other one was quite pricey. Since the second, more expensive option was better for our dog we decided to go for it. The clinic offered us 0% financing which was extremely helpful.
We left our dog overnight at the clinic because she has her surgery scheduled first thing in the morning. We were constantly updated over the phone about how everything was going. We had to leave her for another night and the clinic staff allowed us to come in and spend the time with our baby which was very nice (that happened before the COVID).
It’s been 2 years now and my dog is doing great. She’s running and jumping and her paw doesn’t seem to bother her at all.
I’m very grateful to the clinic staff for taking care of my dog. Would recommend to anyone!

I would give MedVet Chicago 6 stars if I could for its expert and compassionate treatment of our sick puppy. Its neurology department is outstanding – responsive, clear, and friendly – and Dr. Cerda-Gonzalez and her team are rock stars.
In early August, seemly overnight, our 8 week old CocoBear started to experience difficulty walking one evening, and when it got worse in the morning (dragging her feet, general lethargy), we called our vet, who referred us to Blue Pearl in Skokie, who after our visit there referred us to MedVet Chicago.
Our pup needed a spinal tap, MRI, anesthesia, and an overnight stay at MedVet for the initial diagnosis of her condition, which turned out to be an autoimmune disorder affecting her spine. We received excellent care during that visit, and all the staff were friendly and informative. The facility seemed very clean. The discharge instructions were extremely clear. Late that week, after the last of the test results came back, Dr. Cerda-Gonzalez called and discussed her condition and treatment plan in detail with us.
Since then MedVet continues to be very responsive to our pup’s condition. I had several questions during the several weeks after our first visit, and each time I emailed them I received a phone call from a technician within 48 hours. Prescription refills have been a breeze.
Our follow up visit in September also went very well. We had a number of questions about our pup’s future, and the neurologist patiently answered all of them.
In short, we could not imagine receiving more expert, compassionate, and better care than we did at MedVet Chicago. In addition to Dr. Cerda-Gonzalez, who I would happily have treat me if I needed neurological help, special shoutouts to Melissa in Neurology and the vet assistant who met with us and our pup during each of our two visits. All were outstanding.
I have one other suggestion for everyone – GET PET INSURANCE! Having it certainly made our experience much less stressful than it otherwise would have been.

This review is for Dr. Niman (and his staff) in the neurology department.
Dr. Niman is the best veterinary neurologist in Chicago (and probably the entire Midwest). If I could give him 10 stars I would. A little background: I initially saw a neurologist at Premier Vet. The experience left me with more questions than answers, so I made an appointment with MedVet for a second opinion. As soon as I walked in the neurology department at MedVet, I knew the experience would be different.
First, Dr. Niman's assistant Emma was beyond friendly (I initially thought her name was Krystal but learned that it was Emma). Emma asked me questions about my dog, let me talk and took notes. I never felt rushed. I knew my dog was really sick, so I was pretty emotional when Emma said she had to take her to the back to be examined. She assured me that my dog would be in good hands and she was right. After the exam, Emma brought my dog to me and told me the doctor would be in to see me. I didn't have a good experience at the first neurologist, so I was not expecting much. Dr. Niman more than exceeded my expectations.
He spent A LOT of time talking to me, looking at videos of my dog (to see her progression) and explaining her condition to me. Unfortunately, it is too late for my little one. Her condition is so advanced that she will not recover. This is my first (and probably last) dog, so I am devasted. During the appointment, I was somewhere between shock and completely hysterical. Dr. Niman did not give me false hope or sugar coat what was going on. He let me know that my dog's condition was severe and explained what the future would look like. However, he delivered the awful news in a way that let me know he cared. Dr. Niman has the best beside manner of any doctor (animal or human) that I have ever seen.
After the appointment, Dr. Niman emailed me a report detailing everything we discussed, the tests we ordered and the next steps. It was by far the most comprehensive and well written report I have received from a medical professional. More importantly, it was written in a way that I (and all of my family and friends that do not have any medical training) could understand. When the test results came in, Emma gave me the news. I had a bunch of questions, so she took them down and had Dr. Niman call me. He answered them and gave me the space to decide how to proceed. Again, I cannot emphasize how awesome Dr. Niman and his staff is. Everyone in that department cares about the pets and the humans they treat. They are an exceptional group of people and I will always be grateful for the care and compassion that they have showed me during this awful time.
I found Dr. Niman too late, so there is nothing that can be done for my dog. She is dying and my heart is broken. However, if you are reading this review, you either suspect that your pet needs to see a neurologist or have been referred to one. Don't make the mistake I did. Call MedVet today and get on the schedule. The quicker you see the doctor, the better chance your pet has. Your pet deserves the best and I truly believe that Dr. Niman and his staff are the best.
I edited the review to reflect that Emma was the fantastic assistant that assisted me. But everyone on Dr. Niman's staff is awesome.

The kindness and warm welcome that the staff showed to my sweet Ozzy last night made me feel that I was in the right place. The vet that took care of him was so profesional and explained everything so clearly. Thank you so much.

the vets and staff are great. It is expensive and I understand that part. But so many pets suffer or get put down because the owner cant pay for the care they might need. I understand that as well.
They could give a prescription that you can go to Walgreens and fill for discounts instead of charging full price. They charged me 150. for 10 pills that I later bought at Walgreens for 15 dollars and quantity of 20. not even mentioning the other 3 prescriptions that I could have gotten on my own for a third what they charged me.
I am happy to pay for the skill of the medical staff but not the inflated prescription prices.

Brought my dog there the other night - the wait time was very long, but that can't be held against them because every other emergency vet in the area had similar or longer wait times. Despite how busy they were, the staff were very competent and helpful when we did speak with them, and they were very upfront about how long we could expect to wait and what our options were.
Bridget Wolff
Fantastic experience. My cats eye was injured in a tussle with our other cat over the litter box. It was a Sunday after Thanksgiving so our regular vet was booked. I was frantic since eye injuries can go from bad to worse quickly. My vet recommended calling Medvet.
Due to Covid, they took my information over the phone and the parking lot was the waiting room. The nurse calls you to drive up and pick up your pet. After a 20 min wait I received a call to discuss the diagnosis and treatment plan.
Dr. Kindra was fantastic He patiently went over the treatment plan and answered all my questions. It was a holiday weekend so they were very busy, but he took the time to ensure I had all information for my cats care. They also went over the cost of treatment so everything is upfront before they start.
Since the wait was 3 hours, they kindly suggested that I go home and they would call me. Pickup and payment was easy.
I would highly recommend taking your pet here for urgent care. They have a beautiful new facility with specialty care like: cardiology, ophthalmology, neurology etc.
Thank you to the staff and Dr. Kindra for such a caring and supportive experience, especially during the pandemic.

I just picked up my pup from Medvet and have been very happy with the medvet experience. Yes, sometimes you have to wait a bit for them to pick up the call, but if you have a little patience they will. The phones are the only form of communication right now so I'm sure they're being inundated with calls. Lines depend on the day & the issues theyre facing, I went in Thursday morning with my dog due to lethargy and vomiting. Within 30 minutes she was brought inside. I picked her up today, Friday, at 4 and the parking lot was pretty full. That's how these things go. Keep in mind, we're under covid times, you cannot be with your dog! This is just how it is to protect the staff and clients. I called every 4 to 6 hours and got to speak with the nurse taking care of Andy (i think I spoke to 3 different ones and they were all incredibly kind) and received a total of 5 calls from the vet to update me on my dog's condition. The vets were patient, gave me procedure options, told me the price points and on the one occasion I didn't hear the prices, I asked about it and was immediately told. Also, these are emergency services, they aren't cheap. Do I wish it was more affordable? Yes, but i can't say that they're overpriced for what they offer. I was paying comparable amounts for emergency services in Miami so I'm very satisfied with the experience. Most importantly, my dog is alive, home, we know what she has and how to minimize its occurrence in the future.

I am very tardy in writing this review, but I highly recommend MedVet. Also - if you are reading this review and your cat is sluggish, going in and out of their litterbox without going to the bathroom, resisting sitting on their bottom - take them in immediately! I almost waited too long.
My cat Kenny experienced a urinary blockage on a Sunday night last August, and I didn't know what was going on when he suddenly showed signs of severe illness. I called the few local emergency vets and all were reporting wait times of 8-9 hrs, most were quite dismissive. MedVet was the only one that took the time to explain the triage process to me, and to talk a little about what was going on to help me decide if it really was an emergency. Based on the symptoms they let me know it could be serious, so I packed up my little guy and brought him in.
Due to COVID restrictions, we couldn't go inside, so I called and spoke with a tech about Kenny's symptoms on arrival. Their communication was very clear at every step of the way; they let me know a vet would call me back within 10 minutes to tell me wait time based on his symptoms. I got a call back about 5 minutes later and they let me know the situation was critical and they would intake Kenny right away. They came outside to take him from me and let me know I could wait in the car while they would examine him, then they would call me to let me know when he could be treated and what to expect next. A short while later, the vet called to explain the severity of a urinary blockage (can be fatal in as short as 24 hours), gave me a quote for about how much his care would cost, which I needed to pay up front, and advised me of what would happen next.
Ultimately Kenny was in the ICU for a couple days, then had to be hospitalized for another day to make sure he could urinate on his own. I received regular phone calls advising me of his status, and I called a few times in between just to ease my mind as I was sick with worry. On top of all this, Kenny is a feisty little guy who has all his claws, so he gave the techs and vets a pretty rough time as they were trying to care for him. Yet everyone I spoke with was patient and kind, and spent the time on the phone with me that I needed to feel comfortable about the care he was receiving.
On Kenny's release, I was sent home with clear instructions about how to help him heal. Additionally, his care and hospital stay ended up costing less than the original quote, so MedVet refunded me over $100. In total, it wasn't cheap, but quality *emergency* care never is. He recovered and has been all better ever since. I'm am eternally grateful to MedVet for saving Kenny. I've attached a photo of Kenny following his recovery, as he returned to his life of leisure. He and I thank you!

I sent my dog Papi here because he likes to fight with wildlife and got a scratched cornea. He got sedation, testing and medication and his eye cleared up. As was expected it wasn't cheap as this is an emergency vet but the problem is fixed and he is back acting like a big goofy dog. Also the staff was nice and very attentive to the animals. Five stars for the staff and good service!!!

We very recently lost one of our corgis. She died fast. I called ahead to MedVet and asked if I could bring her in to make final arrangements. Told them I'd be there in a few minuts and also gave info over phont. As soon as they saw the cab pull up, out they came and took her right in. Gave some more info and left. Today, after a hospital visit, I'm picking up Dee Dee and bringing her home. What a wonderful place and the techs are people persons. Thanks MedVet

No one is excited on their way to the emergency vet, its scary. I’m really happy we ended up here on a whim when we found an open sore on our cat. Everyone was friendly to us and they were extra sweet to my cat. I fully trust that when I cannot be there with him that they are doing whats best for my pet and treating him with the best care. We hope for no more emergencies but will definitely be here first if there is one.

Excellent care for my sweet boy Wrigley - we rushed my dog in because he was having trouble breathing and couldn't stand. They quickly diagnosed him with pericardial effusion and drained the fluid. He was very close to death and they saved him. They did thorough testing after the fact and found that he had a very serious tumor in his heart that had caused it. They were kind and thorough when explaining our options. The vet who called me to give me the bad news was SO kind. I wish I remembered his name. He spent a long time answering my questions and helping me work through which option to go with as far as care. I could also hear him choking up while discussing my dog's prognosis. It really meant a lot to me that he cared that much. My dog ended up passing away due to the tumor and it was very sudden. I was panicked because he passed in the car on the way back to MedVet, and they were so helpful and kind when we arrived. They took him back to examine him and brought us to a lounge type of room with tissues. They then brought him in with his body covered by a nice blanket with his head exposed and gave us time to say goodbye. I will never forget both the care they provided for my dog during his medical crisis, and the way they handled a grieving family when he ultimately passed away.
Sarah Albanese
MedVet took excellent care of my cat in an emergency. They also communicated very clearly with me about his treatment plan and the expected cost treatment so I could make an informed decision. I really appreciate the level of care and consideration they provided to both me and my cat.

I have to say this was my first time doing this process, and honestly they handled it so well they helped me with any questions, they made sure to keep me updated, when the tragedy happened I called medvet and they right away were ready for me. I’m sad I lost my bestfriend of 10 years, but with their help they really stepped up and helped me thru the process, a couple days after I dropped her off they sent me a sympathy letter in the mail, that right there made me feel my baby girl was going to be okay. I picked up her ashes today and I have to say i am beyond happy, thank you to the staff at medvet for making this hard time a really easy process. My baby is finally home with me. Thank you thank you!

Facilities are fresh and bright, staff are very nice, wait times are long but that’s pretty typical. They were very professional and reasonable cost in the end.

MedVet Chicago was so very caring during the whole traumatic event of losing our Nightshade. Our 8 year old cat was a diabetic who helped me get over my fear of needles. He will be missed daily. Thank you MedVet everyone was so caring. The calming room we were in was so very very helpful. We said out goodbyes in a private, peaceful, quiet way.

Had a really good experience here. Pulled up, called, techs came out quickly with a stretcher for my sick dog.
They were friendly and compassionate.
Becca M
They were very kind and transparent. They bring animals back by degree of urgency. If they check your baby out and have you wait a while, take it as a good sign that it may not be as serious as you think. Very kind people that genuinely care about doing right by pets and their owners.

The best specialty / ER vet out there. Dr. Michael Luethy and all of the techs are just so amazing. They're kind, understanding, they love my grumpy old cat. It's just such a wonderful place.
Hearing my cat has heart disease was hard, but the team here assured me that her tests are great, helped me understand the condition, what exacerbates the issue, what to looks for if it worsens, and what food to eat to help her out.
Over all 10/10 for the Cardio team , they're so amazing all around!

We came in after our pup was bitten by another dog early in the morning. After initial check-in we were seen quickly. The whole visit lasted about 1.5 hours and we left feeling good with a lot of information of what to do next with our pup who left MedVet in good spirits and her wound all cleaned up.

No one likes to go to a vet hospital, but, when my little chihuahua needed help—this is where we went. They are very cautious, (ppe) kind. answered questions respectfully and have great follow-up.

Our 5 year old French Bulldog lost her ability to move her hind legs. We took her to a competitor, and they basically sent us home, stating that they couldn't guarantee that a Neurologist would be able to see her.
The next day she got worse, so we brought her to the MedVet ER. The staff got her in quickly, and Dr. Grabar sat down with us to talk us through her initial consultation. It was decided that our dog needed to see a Neurologist asap, and that they would work on getting her surgery scheduled the next day.
Dr. Niman conducted the surgery for us and he was great! He called and talked us through everything to make sure we were comfortable. He ensured our questions got answered, and he was thorough. I'm tremendously grateful for the care they provided our dog, and I would certainly recommend MedVet to any pet owner!

After 3 Urinary Blockings finally took our cat in for a PU Surgery at MedVet. Dr. Jackson did an elite job and had plenty of experience with this type of medical condition. Our cat has been thriving since the surgery. The veterinary staff was excellent. Should you ever need any sort of medical assistance for your furry friend, call MedVet first. Yes, some conditions are expensive to treat, but in the end are totally worth it.

We've unfortunately been here a lot this year, but are really impressed with their level of care and service. The ER staff have really clear triage systems and were able to quickly stabilize my dog in heart failure, and Dr. Leuthy is really knowledgeable and calming in a time of great stress. You can also call anytime and get an update from the nurses. Our other had a multi night stay this week due to eating a lot of things he shouldn't, and the staff was so caring and communicative. They let us come back and see where he was staying, and there are a ton of staff watching all the dogs so closely. Dr. Schnabl was very good with him and kept us updated and helped us navigate all our choices really well. Hope we don't have to go back anytime soon, but nice to know there's such a good option in emergencies.
Trish Kenney
The Medvet team was kind and competent in caring for our cat with an intestinal obstruction. We are so grateful for the communication and care they provided. We highly recommend and trust the vets at Medvet. Thank you Dr Heuberger, Dr Krier and all the techs and staff that cared for Nola.

Last night I rushed my sweet baby girl (6 mo old chihuahua) into medvet for immediate care. We believe she had a seizure and she couldn't walk and was very weak. After speaking with the front desk clerk. They appointed me to Dr Caleb who immediately showed lots of concern. After explaining everything to him He carefully took my baby girl in the back to check her out. I felt like she was in the best care. Because I had a million questions and Dr Caleb had a million answers. We found out she had ate
something toxic but it wasnt life threatening and he reassured me she would be just find once it wears off just take her home to get lots of rest. And he was right by noon the next day she had regain her strength and was back to normal. Thanks again Dr Caleb

I wasn't sure of taking our pet Chiquita here at first, specially since Banfield recommends them a lot and we had an awful experience with Banfield. However our experience with MedVet totally changed our mind about going to them. They took care of our beloved pet and when the time for her to leave us they made the experience less hard for us. They were very understanding and showed a lot of compassion towards her and us. This was a very sad experience because our little Chiquita had to leave us but this place has been nothing but awesome to us. Thank you MedVet for making our little girl's last moment less painful and peaceful for her. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Had to put my Beautiful Sassy down💔😭They were very nice and helpful. Thank you for helping myself and my family with the most difficult choice we ever had to make. Wish we would have known about this place sooner maybe we could have had a little more time with pur Sassy …

As a costumer; I always want to receive a quality service from the staff.
But one of the most important things is the kindness of how they treat you.
MedVet is one of those places!!!
Erica Rodriguez
Took good care of Kay. Nurses and doctors were great with her. Very transparent about costs and offered less aggressive treatment options to work with my budget. No pressure to do all suggested testing. Yes it is expensive and the wait was long. I was in and out in about 2.5 hours
Amy Velez
I was there a couple of days ago with my dog who had fallen off a bed. I waited 2 hours just to be triaged to be told that it would take between 6 to 8 hours to be seen and was given referrals to go somewhere else. I love the facility and have been there before and gotten seen within a couple of hours, but this time I was not happy.
Daniel Simone
Dr leuthy is amazing. Literal lifesaver. Came up with a treatment plan for my dog and 3 years later he's better than when he first walked in the door
Joe Majka
Great late night emergency room pet care. Fast and efficient, they will take care of you pet in order of severity. Willie had an eye issue and within hours, he was taken care of. Wait in the waiting room, please wear a mask at all time while in the building. Well with the price for a piece of mind.
Daniel Valdez
Yes it's a little pricier...than other places--and thats also relative, but I always feel comfortable and confident that my dogs are being looked after here.

This review is for INTERNAL MEDICINE at MedVet with DR. ASHLEY GOLD.
In February 2021, my husband and I were advised that our 11 year old cat, Moe, has a drippy nose that could be caused by something serious. We were referred to MedVet and a couple other specialty clinics at the time and were lucky enough to get into MedVet within 24-hours of calling, totally by chance. Other clinics were booking months out.
Upon arrival for our appointment, we texted the internal medicine desk to inform them of our arrival. A couple quick questions and Moe was taken in. Due to COVID, we could not enter (totally understandable). The vet tech, Sarah, was very friendly and helpful.
About 10-minutes later, Dr. Gold called to learn more about Moe's symptoms, share her initial thoughts, and recommend tests. She spent about 20 minutes on the phone with us discussing options. My husband was laid off due to COVID, and Dr. Gold ensured us she would do everything she could to keep costs down (which she did). While the final bill did end up being expensive, we are grateful for her efforts. Dr. Gold ran tests on Moe and we were able to pick him up that evening.
I want to say a huge THANK YOU to Dr. Gold and the internal medicine team. While all this was going on, I had a family emergency and we had to quickly relocate to the Carolinas. I kept Dr. Gold in the loop as our life changed and she followed up with immense empathy and kindness. While she had to deliver bad news (Moe has cancer), she helped us every step of the way, even when it came to getting medications shipped to us in the south and getting a referral for an oncologist in the Carolinas. Dr. Gold and the internal medicine team are very professional, caring, and empathetic. They truly care about Moe and about us. My husband and I are so thankful to have found them and would gladly recommend to anyone looking for an internal medicine specialist.

My dog was experiencing seizures for the first time and they were able to see her right away. Gave her round the clock care. They were upfront about costs, next steps, options for treatment, and recommendations. Super friendly staff that was very empathic and able to answer all of my questions. Highly recommend.

MedVet provided quality emergency care for my cat, who has a heart condition. They were helpful and caring and kept us informed of her condition while working to stabilize her. When she was released, MedVet provided excellent instructions on how to help her stay well. Thank you!

I had to take my poor sweet Boo cat here here on Monday night, after coming home from work to find him refusing food and unable to walk properly. He had already been ill for some time in spite of extensive veterinary care, and I knew he wasn't comfortable anymore. I wish I was writing this review under better circumstances, but I know the vets and staff at MedVet did their best to make my kitty feel safe and comfortable in his last moments, and helped me put my mind at ease about making the right decision. Even though it was a really hard night, I'm grateful that they were there for us when we needed them.

The dentistry service went well above and beyond for my two pups. Drop off and pick up were painless and stress free! They thoroughly communicated throughout the experience and made everything easy. They gave me complete peace of mind and I cannot thank them enough for taking such amazing care of my dogs! Thank you to the client care staff, the lovely nurses, and Dr. Saverino! Amazing care, one and all!

This is a good place. They are cheaper than premier emergency center and even have a cancer center on site for your animals. The staff was polite, the prices reasonable, the wait time not to bad. Being it's hard to find regular vets that will see you without an appointment it was worth the visit.

I vacillated between 1 star and 5 stars across my five day experience with MedVet. Ultimately go to VEG if you want to save money and have a more compassionate experience.
First Phone Call- Cold and by the book. When my dog ingested Advil they expressed no concern or compassion, simply asked if I had called poison control yet. I felt brushed off and dismissed.
After calling poison control and a day of home management, my dog was not improving so I took him in to MedVet at 3am. At such an off hour there was no wait, so things went quickly which was really nice at the time. The vet techs were extremely sweet to my little guy and made time to talk with me, but every call from Doctor Monic was very clinical and price focused. Again, it was the Vet Techs who provided me with kindness, financial aid options, and any compassion.
I elected to take my dog home for observation instead of Hospitalizing him as MedVet is extremely expensive (a grand per 24hrs higher than a local competitor). As a trade off, I had to take him in every 24 hours to re-check blood work, which I was more than willing to do. His numbers seemed to be improving, so worth the hundreds of dollars and waking up at 4am to take him in again. Again the Vet Techs prioritized me and were so nice to Topo. However by day four he seemed to be declining again and was vomiting.
Mid Day Five, I brought him in to be Hospitalized and they told me they were at capacity. I’d been waking up at 4am, bringing my dog in for blood work, shelling out hundreds of dollars, watching his every movement, only to be told on Day 5 they couldn’t help me. I understand everyone has a limit. I understand every facility only has so many rooms. I do not understand a vet tech who just takes my dog back, returns one minute later while I’m gathering my coat, and hands him back to me with a completely flat “Sorry, we’re at capacity.” Any help or compassion I got from that point on was from the Veterinary Emergency Group they suggested I call. VEG told me how to get my records transferred, VEG treated me with the level of empathy I’d expect when dealing with a crisis. MedVet didn’t totally drop the ball or suck, but I won’t be going back again.

Everyone I encounter here really cares for both my pet and myself. They are incredibly supportive, responsive, and helpful, especially in an emergency. It is expensive, but that’s to be expected from an ER vet.

I took my pet here for an emergency, so I'm sure each experience is different depending on the day. For us, the care was mostly good. He got the treatment he needed and is recovering. It was very expensive, but that's the cost of emergency medicine. I wish I'd waited and taken him to his regular vet the next day, but that's hindsight!
The downside is that it took so long that by the time he was done he was so anxious he'd caused a would on his leg from nervous licking. It would have been nice for someone to check on him, since humans aren't allowed in with pets right now (which I totally understand). My dog doesn't usually have anxiety, so this was upsetting.
The other annoyance is that the check out procedure was a bit of a mess. I had to call three separate times, was disconnected, had to talk with three different people (one for aftercare, one for payment, one to actually just bring him outside). It took almost an hour and really doesn't seem to me like it should have.
I won't go back unless we absolutely have to, but that's always the point with emergency medicine.

This review is solely based on my experience with the Cardiology Department. I had to take my little guy (dog) in to get his heart checked out. Turned out that he had to have surgery to fix his AV block. I was very nervous about what the next steps would be...but Dr.Pinkos put me at ease. He ended up having to have pacemaker surgery. I never thought I would say “my dog has a pacemaker”. I was not able to see him for 24 hours but Dr. Pinkos and the team called me to give me updates. Even after the surgery, and we were home, Dr.Pinkos called to see how he was doing a number of times.
Everyone in the Cardiology Department was so caring and helpful during this nerve-racking time.

I'm so glad I went here. My puppy was exhibiting symptoms that either could've been nothing or could've been a dangerous condition, and instead of risking it I took him to MedVet at like 1:30 AM last night. The staff were all calm, kind, and helpful -- I was very stressed at the time but I think the vet tech's name was Jeremy? They had such a wonderful disposition (especially for working the graveyard shift at a pet ER). The hospital called me frequently to keep me updated on my pup, and they always made sure to explain everything simply and thoroughly. I picked him up this morning and he's in good health, and I feel good knowing he was treated here. Yeah they're expensive, but having a dog is expensive sometimes, and it was worth it to know my pup is okay.

I had an emergency and was unable to get timely appointments anywhere so I went here at 2 am. The Dr was very informative and kind and helped us make an educated decision on behalf of our cat. Everything (costs, wait times, prognosis) was very transparent and although it was a difficult decision ultimately resulting in our decision to proceed with Euthanasia, the care and tact shown by the staff was incredible. I hope you never have to visit here, but if you do, you'll be receiving the highest quality of emergency medical care available to your pets.

This hospital is amazing! I hesitated bringing my dog into a place I wasn’t familiar with, but MedVet exceeded my expectations. I am very familiar with the medical field so it helped when I spoke to the doctors about my dog’s newly diagnosed myasthenia gravis and megaesophagus. I knew that she was well taken care of by knowledgeable professionals. They knew exactly how to treat my dog, explained everything to me (labs, diagnostic results, pathophysiology, meds, treatments) and I felt very comfortable relying on the staff for care. Nothing was hidden or sugarcoated. Yes, it does help to have a medical background to understand what is going on, but letting those know that question MedVet’s practices that in my experience, my dog received the best and appropriate treatment for her conditions.
Because of her treatment, my dog went home in 2 days after spending nights in the critical care unit and ICU. My husband and I were able to visit her with scheduled appointment times, and I was impressed with how clean everything was. Moreover, the techs are great and really care about the animals. They do not get enough credit for their excellent work, so thank you to them! We got updates whenever we asked for them so communication was a non-issue.
This is probably not commented on enough, but the discharge instructions are phenomenal. I’ve never seen anything more detailed, even for humans. I’ve never seen discharge paperwork explain the pathophysiology of a condition, the presentation of the patient, the exact meds and treatment given, detailed follow up instructions, etc. That amount of detail is incredible, so special thank you to Teresa Monroe and Anne Cohen of the critical care department for spending the time and effort in an undoubtedly time-consuming but important task.
Also, if people are upset about the cost, MedVet was always upfront about how expensive things would and could get. It’s up to the owner whether they are willing to throw a deposit down. Everything is expensive in an emergency, and of course, they would not offer care unless it is covered. On reviewing the charges and treatment nothing was a surprise, everything was discussed if it went beyond our deposit, and it was our choice whether to continue or not. There were no additional, unnecessary treatments. We did not expect care without paying. Yes, it is expensive. This is obvious.
If you made it all the way here, thank you MedVet for the excellent and above and beyond care for my pup. It’s because of the team (techs, critical care and neuro specialists) that my dog recovered so well, and helped ease my husband and my fears when things were out of our control. Highly recommend. Thank you!
Michele Schuster-Difazzio
Our dog Bella started having some scary symptoms and I took her to the local vet. After some blood work and a hard discussion our local vet suggested she needs a hospital where more intense treatment could be given to her. There local hospital was on bypass and she suggested MedVet Chicago. The draw back was we live in Yorkville, west of Aurora, so 1.5,-2 hrs each way. IT WAS WORTH IT!!! They were so thorough and the communication was WONFERFUL!!! An actual VET called you twice a day to update you, and what a relief that was when you were already worried. They were kind people and it was very clean, didn't smell like animals,!! I'm so glad my very regimented them and I would take any off my dogs there again if needed... But hopefully won't be needed😊😊😊😊

This is another review i wanted to make, but i can only edit the previous one so ill add this to the top of my last review and hope it gets seen.
2 months ago walter (my cat) had a bladder stone, which was removed by DR Shirwise. Dr Houlton (below) helped get us there and was awesome. Walters recovery was fast, after 9 days he was out of his cone when they normally say 14 days.
Walters stone occurred as he had a rare Liver shunt. later investigated and determined. He is only 1 years old.
As this doesn't normally happen in cats, doctors were baffled.
Dr Shriwise was more than confident doing the surgery. Me being a cray cat mom, i asked her if she was cool with taking this on? modestly she responded with, 'yes i did 3 last month and 1 was a cat'
She was so chilled, calm, reassuring and so understanding of the stress and expense so far. My home vet pressed on me finding a good surgeon who had experience here. it took me 30 seconds to believe in.
Dr shirwise and i have only talked about Walter but i cant say nothing but amazing things in regards to our interactions. she is truly amazing. I just want to give her a HUGE hug and express my gratitude on the way she handled me and Walter and how sincere she was. thank God she was born because she's a genius.
oh She nailed Walters surgery and i got him back 20 hours later. My Family is complete again.
Message to the owner, dont lose this Dr and give her a raise..
Thanks for hearing me out. :)
old review below.
It hard to see such a low review. But when it comes to animals we are probably more critical when it doesn’t work out? Animals can’t talk though? No human being can possibly know what’s up with an animal even when science is involved.
I have no idea if my Walter won’t return based on his incurable condition, but I will say I had the best experience. Prices are extremely high but when I break down every step of the way, it was worth it. AND cost less than quoted.
I spoke to many people, everyone was always available to talk and to explain things. And I called ALOT for 4 days straight, again there was someone to tell me about Walter. Everyone practically knew him and loved him.
Doctor Emma Houlton (hope I spelt her name right) stood out for me, because she was around him the most during critical times. I would say she picked up on something by being diligent, curious, probably on a hunch and with passion using her well educated knowledge and experience. Which ultimately saved me more medical bills, and Walters life. She backed up everything by getting 2nd and 3rd opinions and was so communicative and patient. From the vet techs (Kristen who’s awesome) to the many doctors and surgeons involved making the right decision for my boy, I and Walter would like to say a big thank you for being so great. Happy new year folks

They took such good care of my aggressive cat Takkun. Dr. Portela, Zuri and the rest of the oncology department gave me more time with my very sick cat. The emergency team made me feel so much better when we first came to MedVet unsure why our food loving cat stopped eating. As we worked with our vet his condition deteriorated rapidly so she recommended we get him into MedVet asap. When he first got there, there was an 8 hour wait but after an initial assessment they took him in right away. Things didn’t look good and I was unsure if he’d ever come home again. I was very attached to Takkun, so the 3 nights he had to stay there were very difficult for me. The emergency team made me feel so at ease as they called when they said they would to provide updates, and even sent me pictures. My vet wasn’t sure if Takkun would make it through the weekend, so for him to come home to me that Tuesday energetic and eating and playing again like nothing happened was truly a gift. I am so thankful they were able to save him. When you are frustrated waiting for your pet to be seen please know that it most likely means there’s another pet worse off than yours that needs priority. Unfortunately, Takkun had a very aggressive type of lymphoma and passed away at the end of August but I will be forever thankful to the oncology team for giving us that time together. I was in denial about what was happening and they didn’t just take care of my best friend, they took care of me too. I was able to say goodbye to my best friend knowing we did everything we could. On the day we had to say goodbye the staff took such good care of us. I could tell they really cared. I am writing this review because the negative reviews I read when we first started coming to MedVet made me so anxious. I am very glad my experience was different. Yes, it costs a lot to bring your pet here but you will see very similar prices at premier. Unfortunately these types of services are really expensive. I also wanted to mention what great customer service I received when scheduling appointments or calling in a panic. If your pet is currently a patient here, please be kind to the people that work here. They absolutely deserve kindness as they took such good care of my Takkun.

They took the time to inform us on everything when it came time to put our dog down as well as respected our final moments with him, and they were quick to give us his ashes; I'm glad they handled the whole thing with care as I was worried about the whole process.

I enjoy bringing Sunny to MedVet. They treated him as part of my family. When I needed his medication, they were there for Sunny. (=^x^=)

We brought our dog here when he was poisoned. I was initially really freaked out when, after an initial evaluation by the tech, they told me it would be up to 5 hours to treat him and that I would have to leave him there. But we didn't have anywhere else to bring him, so we did. As it turned out, they took good care of my Baby, communicated with us about his status/ condition, and the doctor ended up seeing and treating him in less time than estimated. When the doctor called me, I asked a bazillion questions; she was very patient with me and thorough in her explanations. It seems they have a well organized triage system- the wait was because there were other more critical patients to be seen. And finally, when we went to pay the bill we were pleasantly surprised at how reasonable the cost was. While we have only had this one experience here, I would definitely recommend them for any vet emergencies.

I've been to MedVet multiple times over the years. I've worked with both the cardiology team as well as the ER, and I'm very thankful to have them in my "backyard". Just this past week, I'd had to make another trip to the ER due to finding a wound on my cat. Dr. Hopping in the ER was so great with him. Despite his high anxiety tendencies, she took great care of him, gave me thorough explanations of her plan of care, and she had him in and out in under 8 hours, including a sedated procedure. I'm truly thankful for the staff at this location, and the care they provide to my pets.

Professionals through and through. My story didn't end well for my companion but it was due to her age. Their determination and expertise are on point. MedVet's motto is to treat your pet like their own and that was my experience, all the way to the end. The care they provided and updates were excellent. They are open 24 hours including holidays. Even though it was a long and sad Memorial day weekend for me it was comforting to have a place to go in an emergency any time of day. Dedicated and compassionate staff helped me shower her in treats right up to her final moments. I can't say enough how grateful I am for the work they do.

Dr. Podell and his team at MedVet/Chicago successfully treated our puppy Wrigley who had a rare and aggressive MLO tumor. While other vets were giving us no hope, Dr. Podell was the opposite. He was able to see and exam Wrigley, conduct an MRI and walk us through our options within a few days. Throughout the process he was kind, compassionate and thorough with all of the details involved. We couldn't have asked for a better doctor and surgeon. One year later, Wrigley is doing great! We cannot thank MedVet and Dr. Podell enough...truly the best ever.

Our cat, Rowan, was transferred to MedVet after experiencing a cardiopulmonary arrest during dental surgery at another facility. Due to Covid restrictions we couldn't go in the building but the docs and nurses did a great job of keeping us informed by phone. In fact they were more informative that my husband's MDs and RNs were when he was in a human hospital in 2020. Anyway, Rowan was with them for a couple of nights. Just brought her home today. She has some issues with her vision but that may improve and, in any case, she's navigating the house easily. Be aware that this is not inexpensive care. But we were aware of that upfront as they are very forthcoming with price ranges, and decided to give her the best possible shot at recovery. We weren't disappointed. Highly recommend.

My boyfriend and I took our cat to MedVet this morning (on a Saturday) and there was literally no wait time. From the receptionists, to the vet, to the vet tech, everyone was so helpful and kind. They answered all of our questions thoroughly and were able to diagnose/treat very quickly. The cost was, in my opinion, very reasonable -- especially for the high standard of care our cat received.
Thank you MedVet for helping us and hopefully the issue will be resolved once the medication starts working!!

This place was a life saver for my fur baby. Had to rush her there for emergency care. Where as the previous vet charged $4,500 for care for her. Just for her to get really sick 2 days after her check up. After all that money. They suggested we put her to sleep. And that wasn't an option for us. So we brought her to medvet. They diagnosed exactly what was wrong with her for a reasonable price. Now our baby is doing wonderful! They even called to see how she was doing a couple days later. Dr. Hoffberg tried her hardest to give her the best care possible and save us money knowing we had a huge debt from the previous vet. Instead of being put to sleep, she will live a long, healthy life supplemented with medication!

The technicians here are really amazing but the doctors not so much. My cat has been seen by the cardiologist twice now and they've never spoken to me. They are also just kind of cold and don't really seem to care about my cat. If you have another option I would recommend going somewhere else for specialty care.

Can't say enough good things about MedVet. Not my first time here and as a pet owner you never want to have to go to emergency but if you do this is the place to go. Dr. Schrage has updated me and explained my pets condition and options. Her kindness and knowledge has put me at ease in a very stressful situation and i feel confident that my boy Oliver is in good hands. Even the staff, Jasper and so many others, the people who return calls or bring your pet out after an appointment are all kind. I'm thankful for MedVet. Don't think twice about going here to seek treatment for your beloved pet.

The communication and processes here are really confusing and difficult to navigate. I took my cat Jiji to VEG Lincoln park because she was not eating or lifting her head, and they transferred me to MedVet because her condition was serious and needed specialist care. The doctor at VEG called Medvet to explain my situation and tell them I was coming so Jiji could get care immediately. When I arrived at MedVet, I called the number posted on the door. I totally understand safety procedures regarding Covid and that businesses must prioritize the health of their customers and staff in order to keep everyone healthy. For that reason, I understand that the lobby of certain businesses is closed. However, when I arrived and called, they did not seem to be aware that I was coming and took my information down 2 different times while I stood in the cold with my cat in critical condition. I also totally understand having to wait a few minutes at the hospital, that was not the issue at all. I just felt as though no one even mentioned or communicated that I would be arriving. I would have felt so much better if someone had said "Oh yes, Dr. X at VEG called, we were waiting for you." even if it meant I had to wait a bit. Shouldn't the heads up that I was coming have been passed to those answering the phone? It all worked out in the end and I felt very reassured by both the intake nurse and the vet, but at the time I wasn't sure how serious her current state was and it was frustrating to feel like they were not taking her condition seriously. I just felt that everyone was uninformed about a situation I was told was previously discussed.
When I picked Jiji up later that night, I called again. Whoever was on the phone immediately gave me my payment information without me getting the chance to see an itemized invoice of charges or ask questions about my cat. When I asked if it would be possible to see the charges beforehand, she replied "Um, before payment?" Uhhhhhh... yeah? Hello? It was super uncomfortable for me, but of course I gladly paid the charges (after finally seeing an invoice) because I do feel like Jiji received great care. It was just bizarre to feel like a vet hospital only cared about your credit card number. I saw other reviews saying this and I agree: it feels like they hold your pet and information hostage until they receive money. It made me feel super uncomfortable. The tech who brought my cat to me did explain her follow up care, so I felt that was cleared up. However, I think those things should be explained BEFORE being demanded payment in such an unprofessional manner. It would feel much more caring and professional.
I must say however, that the nurse who came into the room to talk with us and do the initial questioning to admit Jiji was so kind and thorough. She truly wanted to understand the entire history of Jiji's condition. Again, at the time I wasn't sure how critical her situation was, so when it was time for her to take her, she gave me a few moments to open Jiji's carrier and talk to her and give her some kisses. VEG had told me some pretty upsetting information regarding Jiji and I was distraught and exhausted by the time I got to MedVet, and she was so kind to me, offered me tissues and water, and asked difficult questions with such kindness and sensitivity. She is the reason for the 4 star rating, because without her I would have probably taken Jiji and left.
For anyone reading and wondering: I was able to find a hard to come by treatment for Jiji and she has improved in just 4 days! We are optimistic that she is going to recover :)

We had the unfortunate luck of having to send both our dogs here this past week. Our youngest for vomiting and bloody diarrhea and our oldest for congestive heart failure. Our youngest was taken during the day on Wednesday and we had to admit her overnight for IV fluids for dehydration. They did some bloodwork as well. This all cumulated to close to $2000. For our oldest, that night he suddenly started struggling to breathe and coughing a lot so we rushed him to MedVet at 2am and put him down about an hour later. It was about $900 for him. They were kind and helpful in explaining both of their ordeals.
My biggest complaint is that they messed up our youngest's birth year. They put 2020 instead of 2021 in her documents. She is 6 months. Not a year old. For our oldest, they put a B where a D should've been for my mom's name. My recommendation is to repeat what the client says to them to avoid simple mistakes like this. It isn't good for pet insurance claims.
Also, it is VERY pricy but as is common with vet care. I do find it annoying that they constantly talk about money and prices for treatment but I guess I get why.

My dog is treated under the optometrist there, they take great care with Cesar, he 18 years old and has serious eye problems.

I brought our
cat Cry Baby in to be euthanized today. I we were very up and I have to say everyone there was so kind and understanding. It was about us , and me and my husband saying our last goodbyes to him. He got to be comfortable in his favorite fleece blanket. Thank you for making an ugly part of life easier for us.
Tracey Mattos
They were very nice and compassionate. Very expensive though... Most people wouldn't be able to save their pet due to cost. I miss the days where actual vets cared about animals and would take them where you didn't have to go to an er vet and pay 3x as much. I called 6 vets and was turned away... Money based world

I worked as a security officer here and I love it! I hope I get another shift here soon ☺️ great staff and cuter animals

I'm lucky to have a place as great as MedVet Chicago so close by. When you have a senior pet, things can sometimes go bad quickly. I'm grateful for the location, speed, and compassion of MedVet's emergency medicine and internal medicine services for my senior cat. Thank you, MedVet!

Friendly and caring staff. I trust them with my cat, to treat her epilepsy.

I honestly had the best experience here, my little chihuahua got hit by a car and was in bad condition, called medvet and they told me to head right over. when i got there, they were already waiting for me outside. It was a little pricy but worth it my dog had to stay 3 days and they would constantly text me and send me pictures and any time i callled they had my update. My little louie is doing amazing now, probably better than before lol

I would just like to thank the staff for everything they did on the night of April 20,18. I had to put my 16 year old cat down. I was devastated and putting him down was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. His name was Pumpkin, and he was childhood companion and my baby. I will forever miss him and have him in heart . Thank you again to the staff and the doctor for giving me the time to say my goodbyes and taking care of him during his Last moments, as well as for the card I received today for my condolences. Blessings to everyone

So grateful to have MedVet here in Chicago. Our 15-year-old cat had ongoing skin issues and our primary care vet (2 YEARS and thousands of dollars later.....) finally told us she needed to see a specialist because it could be something serious caused by underlying issues. We took her to the Dermatology department at MedVet. Turns out our cat probably had skin cancer and we had no idea. Dr. Schwartz in Dermatology was incredibly thorough w/ her and gave us a straightforward plan for official diagnoses and possible treatment. She took a ton of time to explain everything to me and answer my dumb questions. At the end of the day, we made the tough decision to euthanize our precious furbaby. We took her to MedVet for her last hurrah. They were extremely compassionate and made us very comfortable. They don't burden you with a ton of decisions, make it a very simple process, and they did the courtesy of having us pay beforehand. When I put my other furbaby down a few years ago, the vet didn't consider that and the front desk person was asking me for my credit card as I sobbed on the floor with my dead cat (yes, they had him on the FLOOR without so much as a blanket when they euthanized him and I was too distraught to say anything. MedVet didn't do this, thank God, they actually care and allow your pet dignity and comfort in their last moments).
Additionally, MedVet mailed us a hand-signed card with condolences and personal notes that made me feel so much better during the grieving process. These people really care about pets and their owners. Needless to say, we are glad we took her to MedVet and not somewhere else. I recommend MedVet to anyone who is at their wits end with their pet's health issues. The specialists here are incredibly knowledgeable and the staff is compassionate.

They saved my 14month old golden retriever's life after a spay gone terribly wrong at a local vet. Incredibly thankful to everyone there, from the front desk staff and vet techs to the surgeon, radiologist, and critical care veterinarians that kept my pup alive.

Wow! The greatest vet I have been to. My poor dog has seen so many vets in the last couple years and med vet has a wonderful internal medicine dept that diagnosed her and really has solved her issues. I am so pleased with their care. I highly recommend them

MedVet took in our very sick cat with no notice around 8 at night, started the search for a diagnosis and eased our feline's immediate distress. Not cheap, but at every step MedVet was transparent about costs, and gave us the option to opt-out of any procedure we couldn't afford. Emergency pet care done right.

My dog ate a packaged of semi-sweet chocolate chips while unattended for an hour. We used the drive up service MedVet had implemented due to quarantine, and the staff was impressively organized, professional and compassionate. The vet was incredibly kind and patient when explaining treatment. I did not feel judged for this emergency and I felt comforted by her kindness.
I also used MedVet at the prior location in June 2017 when my first dog became acutely ill with a ruptured spleen, and I had to make a quick, difficult decision to extend her life with surgery, -she was 10, or euthanize. Again, the vet and staff were supportive and professional. I will continue to utilize this animal hospital in the event of an emergency.

A little ambiguous about procedure and billing up front, but honest and caring, and my dog likes them. Luckily we didn't need any serious treatment, but I felt like the bedside manner was not quite up to the high quality of care I felt like they offered.

My 3 lb dog went in for a routine dental cleaning and became very ill following the procedure. We tried receiving emergency treatment from our vet the day following his dental, but his condition continued to deteriorate. Because of his size and lack of reserves, we were growing increasingly concerned about his well-being and were unsure of what to do.
We called MedVet when it became clear he was not going to get better at home, and they had us bring him in right away. The wait was a bit painstaking but understandable given how emergency rooms typically work. When we finally received the call from one of the doctors on staff (~2.5 hrs after drop off), we were given a thorough explanation of his condition in the moment and the different treatment options for him along with an estimated cost.
It was clear from that first call with Dr. Hoffeberg that the staff cared deeply about providing quality care for my little pup. They provided us an estimate that accounted for the low end and the high end of treatment costs. Admittedly, any emergency visit is incredibly costly, so this is not the place to go if you are pinching pennies. My little pup ended up staying for three days and two nights, and in that time the staff remained incredibly communicative and responsive throughout his stay. I went full loon and called many times and each time was quickly placed on the line with someone who was providing direct care to my dog. They always gave a full update on how he was doing in that moment and gave me all the time I needed to ask questions, providing thoughtful and informative answers to each one. They told me to call whenever - even if I woke up worried at 4:00 AM and needed an update! At one point, nurse Jessi even emailed me pictures of him throughout the day to help bring me some comfort while he was away. So kind!
Both the doctors and nurses on staff clearly know their business very well. Because it seemed that there could potentially be many different causes for this condition, the staff kept me up to date as they ruled things out or had new suspected reasons. The doctor (Dr. Hoffeberg) carefully evaluated all lab results and formed different hypotheses based on the changing data. She kept me up to date with the results of the tests and ultrasound to help me understand my little buddy’s situation. He is a bit of a feisty - “spicy” as they say there - guy, but Liz, Jessi, and Dr. Hoffeberg along with everyone else were so patient and loving with him. We felt so comfortable that our tiny guy was in very competent hands. It’s difficult to know your pet is in such discomfort, but knowing he was getting high quality care from knowledgeable and caring practitioners helped us feel at ease.
I would 110% recommend this hospital to anyone who finds themselves in the unfortunate position of needing to seek emergency care for their pet. It’s clear staff is knowledgeable about the field and work their tails off to rehabilitate the animals that come in. The staff members also all have great bedside manner and can offer transparency delivered with amazing empathy. It likely won’t be cheap, but a healthy pet and peace of mind is priceless in my opinion. 😉

It was expensive and the wait was long. But they have some really good people here. Just wish these corporate owned hospitals had a bit more compassion, unlike these staff members who were all amazing!
Ketan Patel
Great service, they love the pets and have a decent waiting area.

I had a wonderful experience with MedVet. My dog was admitted for recurring seizures and received an MRI and ongoing treatment for a brain tumor. Although expensive compared to a regular vet (it is emergency care, so this is to be expected), my dogs emergency MRI was about $800 below the estimate I was given. We were also seen promptly after arriving, I only waited about 45 minutes.
Dr. Naiman and the rest of the staff were fantastic during the 10 months my dog received care at MedVet. He actually enjoyed going to his appointments! I highly recommend them.

I wanted to share our experience visiting MedVet during the COVID19 outbreak. I was really nervous because a lot of other vets I was attempting to take my dog to had us waiting in a hot car. He was bleeding so I was really nervous that that wouldn't work for the time. MedVet reassured me that he would be taken care of and the bleeding would be stopped and then he could wait his turn to have treatment. They had a system in place that let us call to see how our pet was doing while they were there. I don't know what the inside looks like or anything but my dog was very relaxed when he came out which made me think they did a good job caring for him compassionately while he was there. I definitely felt like they gave us really good treatment options and I immediately saw that my dog was feeling better when he came home. I just wanted to leave a review so fellow pet owners could know that this is a good place to go in an emergency. It was, of course, pricy, but with how vet prices are nowadays I honestly thought it would be way more than it was. For the service they provided, the cost was expected.

I took my cat for a tail amputation.
The service was very good. All staff members were welcoming and nice.
I was sometimes confused and didn’t what to do ( that was totally on me and having an hard time deciding what was the best for my pet) but I appreciate their patience and how reactive they were.
It was a long day over there, but knowing that my cat was in such good care made it easier!
Definitely recommend it for emergency !!
Moira
High quality service from everyone working there. They saved my cat and kept me well informed the entire time. I felt comforted and heard by the vets. We had to leave our cat there overnight but we’re given regular updates. They even let us say good night to him after he was settled. My entire family felt confident in their abilities. He came home a million times better and the vet even called the next day to check in. We had to call with follow up questions and the staff made us feel welcomed every time. Best emergency services in Chicago.

So thankful Med Vet is there when uou need them. ER and opthamology are fantastic.

We brought our cat, Sophie, here for an emergency examination instead of waiting 3 days for an appointment with our vet. We are so glad we did. The staff here is friendly and professional, and the veterarians who cared for her were thorough, comforting, and informative. They gave us all possible options for treatment, including costs, and took excellent care of our cat throughout her overnight stay. I wish we could bring our cat here for all of her needs, emergency or not. So thankful to have them in our community.

The actual medical care our greyhound received was very good - I trusted the vet I spoke with over the phone. She was very knowledgeable and spent lots of time walking through our greyhound’s paw injury and treatment with me. However, that said, the overall experience wasn’t good. We called a few emergency vets in our area after our greyhound’s hind left paw started bleeding after a walk. I regret NOT going to the other option (Veterinary Emergency Group in Lincoln Park), but opted for MedVet because I thought it being a bigger operation meant it would move quickly. We arrived around 6 PM and registered over the phone (no one inside due to COVID restrictions). Then we waited for a second call from a triage nurse who told us the wait was likely 2-3 hours. We immediately thought, no way, and decided to head somewhere else. Before we left, though, the nurse called me back because a new shift with more doctors had just started which meant our dog would be seen in 30 minutes by the vet and they could take her in now to check her vitals, etc.
So we sent her in. And waited. And waited. I realize they operate like a human ER, and if a more critical case comes in (which is what I’m assuming happened) then less serious injuries get bumped. But as a dog parent sitting in the car, anxious, I was disappointed that more than an hour passed when I then called to find out my dog hadn’t even been looked at yet. She’s a new adopt, and I would’ve been more comfortable with her in the car with me that whole time. I was assured we’d hear from the doctor within about 20 minutes. Another hour passed before the doctor called me. Again, the vet herself was lovely. She let me know they’d clean the wound and wrap it and our dog would be ready to go in about 30 minutes. ANOTHER HOUR PASSED. Finally, we got a call from someone who went over our aftercare (clearly just read verbatim from a printout I received with meds). Then we had to wait for yet another phone call to pay. Finally we were able to go up to the door to get our dog, who’s paw wasn’t even bandaged. At that point I was just ready to get home because it had been more than 3 hours after being told she’d see a doctor in 30 minutes.
I understand there are circumstances that aren’t controllable, but being given time estimates that were so off, and not being given regular updates leaves the owner in a tough spot. It seems like despite operating this way for a long time that they still don’t really have it down - and it shows. Overall - I’m sure they’re doing good work but the customer experience was below average for us.

Expensive but gets the job done. This place is more of a emergency. Opens 24/7. Also when you call be specific or else they will give attitude....

Back in august my dog fell ill due to medication (not prescribed by a vet). I was out for the day and my mother wanted to help my dog with some discomfort she was having and gave her dog aspirin from “well and good” (DO NOT BUY THIS OR GIVE THIS TO YOUR DOG). I had no idea what exactly was wrong as she was more lethargic, and began vomiting blood. So we took her to MedVet, where they treated her. They called us and informed us of any and all procedures that were needed. Chloe ended up needing 4 blood transfusions, as she was still losing blood, and a life saving surgery. The surgeon called and informed us they found the problem, it was an ulcer that caused a stomach bleed. Chloe never had any health problems prior until this incident. Chloe was able to come home within a couple days and we celebrated her 4th birthday! Thank you to everyone here for taking such good care of my baby and keeping me so informed. The price was high, but we understand with this being an emergency situation, which we expected. They did a great job on informing us of prices as well, through Chloe’s stay. Chloe has been home for some time and is doing spectacular ♥️

My older cat was having a medical emergency and we needed to take him in. The team there was very quick to assess my baby, and figure out what was the underlying cause of his illness. They were also very good about dealing with him even though he was not very friendly.
I am very thankful for their service and I would recommend them to anyone with a pet medical emergency.

Not sure who set up the phone system, but it is TERRIBLE and takes so long to navigate. For any missed call from a doctor that required me to call back, no extension number was ever provided and I'd have to go through 3 separate phone routings from the central phone number until I could speak to a person. There's not even a specific number that routes you directly to someone for urgent care check in, so I was standing out there in the call trying to figure out which numbers to press that would route me to the right place.
At least provide one single number specific to urgent care check-ins, or have a number to press SPECIFICALLY for urgent care. Started pressing 1 every single time so I didn't have to do that whole dance.
They also assume anyone that arrives for urgent care has a vehicle. For those that don't, they do have a trailer out back THANKFULLY!, but you have to be let in by personnel and they don't tell you that the trailer is an option upfront. My tiny dog and I were sitting outside for about 20 minutes before I could even ask about some indoor seating. I totally understand COVID precautions, but probably a better urgent care intake process would be appreciated ESPECIALLY IN CHICAGO WINTER. Or maybe a suggestion to go inside the trailer while doing the whole intake process?

We have a seven year old English bulldog. She developed an abscess at the base of her tail which burst. Around 3 a.m. on Sunday morning, we noticed it was bleeding badly. We took her to MedVet. We were greeted immediately by courteous employees. We spoke to a tech within 5 minutes of our arrival, and to a doctor within 10 minutes. Our dog was immediately taken back for the doctor to drain the abscess. It turned out the abscess was much worse than originally believed. It took the doctor over an hour to drain and clean the abscess. In the end, the bill was only $200 more than the original estimate. I was very pleased with the service. Our doctor was extremely courteous and informative, as was the tech. The facilities are clean and well equipped. I would strongly recommend MedVet for emergency car for your pet.

I took my cat to MedVet's dermatology department for a skin condition where they performed some tests. Her appointment went well and I was told her lab results could be in as early as two weeks but that it would most likely take 3-4 weeks. After two weeks had passed I sent an email asking if there were any results available because I'm just worried about my baby. I was told it was too soon, to wait another week or so. Ok, I understood that. However, a couple of hours later a technician calls with my cat's lab results explaining that she didn't know what had happened but that the results had been available days ago. That to me seems confusing and unprofessional. My vet gladly was able to take over and continue the finishing steps because I did not feel like my pet is being cared for like I wish. My pet's health is top priority and I'm glad her vet is able to provide that
Maxwell Leib
Great staff. Super attentive and did a great job communicating. Was a little surprised to have no follow up calls post discharge even though we were working in conjunction with another vet.
Helena Davis
My dog had surgery here on Nov. 24th. The staff was pleasant and treated my dog well. I even received pictures of her overnight from one of the techs. which I appreciated. Wait times are kind of long from when you check in until they come and get your pet from the car but I guess that is to be expected during these times.

My cat was vomiting and our regular vet couldn't see him for 5 days. I was concerned he would become dehydrated by then; they recommended MedVet. My cat was not critically ill so he did wait for 5hrs to be seen, but that is a normal (human) emergency room wait. I was able to go home. I did feel bad that he spent 5 hrs in his carrier, but I don't know what a better alternative would have been.
It turns out he ate a string or ribbon. He was admitted overnight. I was able to call several times to speak to his nurse to check on him. The vet explained everything and was very upfront with costs. He ended up not needing surgery, thankfully but did get 2 rounds of x-rays and blood work and an ultrasound. I was able to pick him up about 30 hrs after I dropped him off. The total cost was under the estimate. More importantly, my cat was feeling much better and back to acting like himself.
The main complaints seem to be the wait and/or being understaffed. The wait is to be expected at an emergency room. This is a level1 trauma center. If I had gone to a human ED at a level 1 trauma center with the same symptoms as my cat I would expect to wait WAY longer than 5 hours. Also, they probably are understaffed. Veterinary medicine is a highly demanding career - there is a national vet shortage.
Other reviewers complained about not seeing the actual vet treating their pet. This is to be expected at a level 1 trauma center. I work in academic medicine and it is not unusual to only see the attending physician for a few minutes.
The other main complaint seems to be about cost. They don't offer payment plans. If you're complaining that they are understaffed, who do you want to manage those payment plans? They focus on medical care - that's why the refer ppl to Care Credit which offers 6mo interest free. Which is more than enough time to receive reimbursement from your pet insurance, if you have it.
I hope to never need MedVet's services again, but if I do I will not hesitate to return.
Tricia Davis
This isn't a happy ending, but a good example of how supportive and understanding an otherwise clinical and medical type of place could be. I lost a second kitten from a bonded pair less than two weeks from her sister (they both had the same genetic heart condition). MedVet takes Care Credit, and they worked with me on the rest of the deposit that I couldn't immediately cover (who has $2,500 immediately?!). They did absolutely everything they could to save my little baby, and were incredibly empathetic and informative through the entire process. I spoke with two different vets over a period of about 27 hours, and both helped me to keep my head up through everything in different ways.
They informed me of other financial resources outside of Care Credit that I was approved for. They seem to understand that grief doesn't need the added financial burden. I can only imagine that they are stellar when it comes to pets coming out and getting to go home.
M M
Good service but SO expensive. We’ve never spent less than $1,000 here. They sort of have you over a barrel because you want your pet to be ok so you don’t have much choice. Definitely an ER-type place for serious scares and after-hours emergencies. They’ll take care of your pet if they can—and you’ll pay for it.
Danny Macias
Went to this place when our dog let us know it was his time. It was 3AM and have never been to this place. The professionalism from the person answering the phone, the staff that greeted us, and the doctor is unmatched in my experience. Under the circumstances of our visit, i have nothing but great things to say about the quality of people that work here. They took great care of my best friend and will always have a special place in our hearts. Thank you
Drew Bobby
Brought our cat in to the ER via. a walk-in. Staff was helpful and despite being busy during a pandemic we were quickly helped. The vet listened to our problem and answered all our questions about how to proceed, pros/cons, etc... Can't recommend this place enough.
Sydney Smith
Our dog became ill New Year's Eve into New Year's Day; I called MedVet once, thinking I'd bring her in immediately, and the vet tech who took my call gave me a lot of advice on taking care of her, and what to look out for if she became worse, which gave us time to consider whether or not to take our dog in. Ultimately, we did need to take her in, and Dr. Cohen was extremely responsive and helpful, and gave us a lot of information on her care. Dr. Cohen was really sensitive to balance the kind of care our dog needed with the potential total costs, which we really appreciated, and helped us make a better-informed decision than we thought we could under the emergency circumstances. Our dog is on the mend now, thanks to Dr. Cohen and the the whole MedVet team. We hope we don't have another emergency, but if we do, we will definitely be taking our dogs to MedVet.

I had to bring my best feline friend to MedVet on the Sunday before labor day due to a urinary obstruction. I pulled up in the lot and spoke to the triage nurse over the phone who took her symptoms and told me the plan. She took my baby inside within 10 minutes, saying they would take her vitals and if she was stable enough to wait- the wait would probably be long. They were very busy. (In my opinion, it is a blessing to wait..means your animal isn't gravely ill).
So I went home and cried on the couch all afternoon and evening as all worried pet owners do when their furry friends are sick. I called every 3 hours for an update, and the nurses gave me a detailed update about how she was doing which gave me a huge comfort. We had to wait a long time (like 12 hours-it was really busy) but I didn't mind because I knew she was being monitored and tended to by the nurses in the cat wing. Dr Davis called me at 3 am and kindly updated me on Rory's condition and went over prices. Long story short, I had my baby girl in my house in time for her morning sun bath on labor day- feeling A LOT better. Peeing well, not in pain. Thank god.
It was pricey but not unexpected and honestly pretty fair for emergency veterinary service. ~$400 for sedation, subq fluids, urinalysis and culture, and gabapentin.
Definitely cat friendly- my Rory was a street cat before I adopted her and pretty much only trusts me so she is not easy to examine. They only sedated her when absolutely necessary and kept her in a quiet cat wing with music :)
No emergency vet will stop you from bawling your eyes out while you wait, but at least with MedVet you know your little bubba will be well cared for. Here's to the vets and nurses that work overnight on labor day weekend so they can be there for us in our worst moments. Y'all are doing God's work. Thanks especially to Dr Davis and nurses who took care of Rory last night. <3

I took my 4-month old Doberman puppy here when he was extremely ill. I was so worried for him, but the staff made me feel he was in great hands. I was provided with frequent and honest updates throughout Reggie’s night stay. My puppy who was barely able to breathe and lethargic when I took him in was able to come home with me the very next day. I know the staff’s knowledge knowledge and quick thinking is the reason for Reggie’s miraculous recovery.

Took our pup here for some serious issue and we were impressed with the timeliness and care taken by the staff to treat our issue. The support staff was patient and the doctor was upfront and explained everything in detail such that we could make an informed decision. We especially appreciated the advice the doctor gave us instead of making us decide what to do. Her recommendation to get X-rays and blood work in order to rule out any and all causes helped make our decision easier. The cost was on the higher end of what we expected, however because of their treatment, our dog has made a full recovery.
Ashley Doherty
They have always been amazing! I have alot of pets, cats and dogs and have been here many times. They have been absolutely brilliant! Very professional and caring and thorough. They explain everything very well. I highly recommend this place if ever a pet emergency should arise. I trust them completely and so should anyone who visits. Thank you for everything you have done for me and my wee pets!
Tori Arnold
You never end up at an emergency vet for a good reason. Unfortunately, our visit did not end in happy news. We lost our sweet little dog. However, I have to say that the care we received was excellent. Felicia especially helped us through a very hard time. She was kind, compassionate and very gentle with us. Thank you MedVet for doing your best and having such exceptional staff on hand.
Micah Collins
This place saved my dog. I went to my area vet and they recommended that I put him down. I brought him here and they completely understand the urgency of the situation. They did surgery within a day of arrival and kept in touch with me throughout the process. It was very expensive and having to pay thousands of dollars up front was stressful. You get what you pay for and my beagle is doing just fine. Thank you for showing all the love and care for my beagle.
Kelli Slevin
I can’t say enough good things about my experience with Medvet Dentistry. I was extremely nervous for my 5lb Maltese to go under anesthesia and have much needed oral surgery. I cancelled the morning of my first appointment. Dr. Krug was very patient with me and my concerns. He took the time to explain the procedure to me again, even though I had cancelled at the last minute. I kept apologizing and he said, “I’m not mad, I understand.” Dr. Milloway from anesthesia then contacted me and addressed all of my concerns. The staff is very caring and knowledgeable . Angie the tech was very calming and compassionate, she didn’t mind my several phone calls post op. The staff was very professional and I’m so glad they helped my best buddy. One day after getting 15 teeth ext and a deep cleaning , he is eating and his pain seems mild. This team works together to come up with the best plan for your pet on an individual basis. Thank you so much, I know Crawford will be happy and healthy.

We're really happy we found this place for our dog. Everyone here is very attentive and kind. Especially Dr. Niman and Soraya. Thank you for taking care of our pup!

Before I begin, everyone I spoke with was absolutely wonderful and incredibly professional.
If your pet is experiencing an emergency, i.e. they'll be dead before day's end, bring them here.
If your pet has an infection that needs to be treated sooner rather than later, and you can't get them into literally any other vet in the entire Chicagoland area, be ready to wait at minimum 7 hours. At our 941am (phone record) drop off for an eye infection, I was quoted 2-3 hour wait time for stable patients (which he is). At430pm i was able to sneak him into his eye doctor at a last minute appt. During those 7 hours, my shiba was without me in holding in the back.
I'm sure they're services are worth the wait. But if you don't have an emergency case, don't expect fast service.

So I was reading a lot of bad reviews about MedVet, mostly complaining about cost. Was I happy to suddenly fork over a large sum of money I hadn’t planned on? Nope, but unexpected, sometimes large bills are a part of pet ownership. MedVet was able to quickly provide emergency service (my dog was unable to stand & in a great deal of pain), on-site testing (MRI), evaluation by a specialist (neurologist Dr. Gonzalez was wonderful) & surgery—none of which is cheap, for humans or pets. From what I understand, with spinal cord injuries, speed is key to better prognosis & having all of these resources on hand, under one roof isn’t cheap. I was bummed that I couldn’t visit him, but that’s COVID, not the clinic. Overall, I found MedVet very responsive & professional (& I’m thrilled that my dog is recovering, thanks to their care).
Moonie Hart
The vets at MedVet were incredibly kind and compassionate when dealing with me and my cat, who had gotten into lilies. They let us visit him during his multiple day stay and helped us with the process to use care credit to pay for his treatment. Hopefully we won't have to go back, but I feel confident that our pets would receive the best care if they had to.
m
Dermatologist was able to identify the cause of my dogs allergies and we were able to find an affordable solution to treat his allergies. These people love animals as much (and if not more) than you do so they will go above and beyond every time to make sure your animal gets the best care.
Jill Flanagan
This place is great, my dog got an ultrasound here. They need to make checking in for customers without cars smoother though. Literally was just standing in a hot parking lot with my dog for 20 minutes after getting yelled at by a super grumpy parking lot attendant. No one told me there was an air conditioned trailer with a bathroom at the side of the building

Dr. Tennyson and Dr. Klemas were so great and knowledgeable when both our dog and cat ended up at MedVet. They were patient with our many questions and gave us great options that would fit our family situation. We can not thank them and all the MedVet staff enough for everything they did for our pets!
Maggie Druffel
MedVet was the best option for us when my dog was clipped by a car in the middle of the night - they were able to take him in right away, and he received excellent care. We even were able to bring him back for several follow-ups, and they outperformed our primary care veterinarian in terms of communication and bandaging him. Though expensive mostly due to x-rays, I found the cost to be what I would expect in an emergency situation. Thank you so much, MedVet!!!!
Stephanie Ericson
I have taken my dog to MedVet a few times and most recently called when my dog was post-op and my regular vet was already closed. Audreana could not have been more patient, thorough, kind, and helpful (as I was sobbing). The vet overseeing the ER gave her all the information to help answer my questions and put me at ease, explaining potential next steps and what to look for. Thank you for always taking care of my pets and me!
Andrea Infante
I would recommend Chicago Med Vet because of their friendly and compassionate care for animals and pet parents. Two years ago my dog caught leptospirosis and Dr. Ashley Gold took care of my dog, pistol and stayed with him all the way through his illness, saving his life! The emergency hospitalization was absolutely outstanding and I do not know what I would have done without them. I was able to visit my dog with no issues and was comforted while we waited to see if he would pull out of this devastating disease. Dr Gold called me every morning with an update and was very comforting during this very trying period of mine and my dogs life. Two years later, I continue to see her as she rechecks my dogs kidney values and chemistry. She continues to give an amazing service to us both and continues to monitor his health. Honestly I do not know what I would’ve done without her and a great staff that provided love, care and medicine. Thank you with all my heart and a very grateful wagging tail!

They were so kind to me and my puppy. They took my puppy in, took his vitals, and talked to poison control about our situation. They didn't even charge me for the visit because he was completely fine after taking vitals. Really appreciate service like that especially in those sorts of situations.
Karen Hallman
I had to take my sick cat here as I was unable to get an appointment with my regular vet. On the way there her condition quickly deteriorated and I called them from my car. They were very kind and professional as I described what was happening. I ended up having to put her to sleep and everyone was sincerely caring. I just picked up her ashes and received the same type of treatment. Would highly recommend.

I’m not one to leave reviews but after having to unexpectedly put my cat down yesterday, I felt compelled to say how kind and compassionate the MedVet staff were. They were extremely empathetic and patient, which goes a long way when you’re dealing with something so painful. I’m sure they deal with high emotions, arduous work days, and tragedies day in and day out, so I just really appreciated their genuine spirit and the smooth system they’ve put in place to handle emergencies.
Alyssa Soren
This review is solely for the Cardiology department with a set appointment time - NOT an emergency visit. We were seen immediately, valet parking was amazing. Thorough visit and even a typed up document of all we had discussed during the session. It was pricey, but they do accept Care Credit and I think that a specialist in this case is worth the price. My older dog has a heart condition that other vets did not think he needed a prescription but his condition has worsened over the past 6 months and needed to do an ultrasound which I was quoted for $600 at another vet. MedVet charged $550.
Nessa A.
The Neurology department took care of our furbaby wonderfully. Dr. Gonzalez was very helpful in letting us know what is going on/prevention/and next steps. We were in and out in about an hour. We will definitely be back for more testing and would definitely recommend.

My sweet Lefty was scheduled to be euthanized on Friday at home but on Thursday he began having serious seizures. I arrived at MedVet sobbing with my pup shaking in a towel. Every single person at MedVet was swift, compassionate, kind and worked hard to make Lefty/I as comfortable as possible. The staff quickly gave him anti seizure meds and then brought him to me in a private room so I could be there as he left. From the person who did my phone intake and the nurse to the doctor and the tech every one of them made a terrifying and heart breaking experience more manageable. Thank you for allowing me to be with my best friend as he left me.
Natalia Kaczmarek
Expensive but very kind. Good place for stabilization but your regular vet will be better for follow-up... at least for me it was since I have ongoing issues even after stabilization. My cat may just be complicated 😅 …
Marie Dennis
My senior pug is almost 15 years old with numerous health problems and I had to take him here for answers that I could not get in my area for emergency reasons. I am very pleased to take him the extra distance to get the best diagnosis.
Amie Klujian
Dr. Gold and the internal medicine staff of caring professionals at MedVet saved my dogs life. From diagnosis to treatment plan to follow ups, my little guy has thrived under her care. We've been a patient in the internal medicine department for a bit now and my dog is enjoying a great recovery. I really owe his life to Dr. Gold and the great steps she took to understand my dog's condition and his responses to medicine as well changes in his blood and urine panels. She was there recommending each course of action along the way based on her expertise in the field, her experience and her knowledge of my dog. For me, Dr. Gold turned despair into hope; and hope into recovery. She helped my dog achieve the active life that I never thought he'd have again. I'm so grateful to Dr. Gold and her entire staff. I highly recommend the internal medicine department at MedVet.

I went in around 10:00 because my dog ate a big wad of paper towels in the street. In this case it was very fast that a vet tech came out to take her vitals and talk to me. Lily was not in distress. She explained the only thing they could potentially do is have her throw up, but that’s usually only necessary if there a lot of tampons and the doctor is just recommending observation.
They didn’t charge me anything for that!
I was shocked. I thought that walking into the door meant I didn’t know what I was doing with my wallet.
The facility is very impressive. I can’t tell you how long it would have taken if I did want to do a procedure but it seemed like folks were taken care of quickly.
Anyway, it goes to show that if it’s after hours this is a good back up.
Megan Lenzen
We came here with an emergency situation with our cavalier king charles spaniel. She was so well cared for, and they were able to squeeze her in to see a cardiologist that very same day. Excellent staff, doctors, and facility. Of course we can't go in with her due to covid protocol, which we also appreciate, but felt very good about her care while we were apart.
Ben Bloch
Concerned and thoughtful staff; when I had to bring in my cat for a potential urinary tract blockage, they put me at ease and walked me through all the potential issues and treatments. The doctor was more than patient answering my various concerns and questions, and the techs were very polite handling him in his carrier.
Less fantastic was the security guard who PULLED HIS GUN ON ME for walking around the parking lot behind the building while I was on the phone with the doctor, with his excuse being, "There have been car break-ins." Never even got an apology.
Justin Westfall
Our 5 lb pomeranian had bad teeth and needed to get them extracted. She also has a heart murmur and our normal vet was not comfortable giving her anesthesia. They referred us to the specialists at MedVet. MedVet was able to quickly accommodate an appointment. The dentist, Dr. Krug, performs these operations frequently. Despite the numerous challenges - small dog / small mouth, heart condition, extraction of all teeth - the procedure went seamlessly and we picked up our dog just 4 hours after dropping her off. I highly recommend MedVet for any dogs with unique health conditions.

Great care by Dr. Mackenzie and Dr. Gonzalez. Their team, including Josh, kept us updated on my pet's status during a difficult time.

We had to euthanize our 25 year old cat. They were very gentle with him and explained the process. The doctor talked us through every step that she was going to take and when it began talked through what she was doing. The family was heartbroken and she (doctor) stayed in the room when it was over as I sat with him for a moment and she spoke with me, there was no feeling of being rushed out,she was very calming, understanding and comforting. Everyone was so sweet and sympathetic. I am really happy that we chose to go here for his last moments.
We all love and miss you dearly Thomas...you were more than our pet..you were our family and friend...you will stay with us in our minds and hearts.

I am writing this review, a year later because I feel like this place definitely deserves a 5 star rating! About 2 years ago, my cat, Minnie, had been vomiting bile and acting very lethargic. A few days had passed and she was not improving. Not drinking water. I took her to another Vet that was actually open on Sunday's, hoping for the best but fearing for the worst. The vet, Dr. Hadzic, seemed decent enough. After a quick initial exam, they suggested an X-Ray to determine if there was any obstruction... After what felt like forever, but was only about 10 minutes, the vet cam out and told me my cat had an obstruction, needed an operation, and was high-risk. Panicked and distraught, my sisters helped me in deciding to not wait until Dr. Hadzic's next available appointment the next day, and we took Minnie to this establishment. It took a while to be seen, and I will say the staff could have been a little more warm, but honestly, with how many animal's these people see in a day and care for, bed side manner was not high on my list of expectations. They gave Minnie the care she needed, she stayed overnight and by the same time the next day, she was happier and healthier. I got some medication to take home to ensure her nausea had cleared up, and two days later I had my fully crazy, curious kitty back! If I ever have another pet emergency, I will be coming here! The price, I'm assuming, was also reasonable for treatment, an overnight stay, and an ultrasound to completely rule out any obstructions. Thank you guys!

We’ve unfortunately had to bring our kitten here twice, once for illness, and once for when she ingested a hair tie.
While both times our kitten did seem to get good healthcare, there are definitely a few areas in which MedVet can improve upon.
1. Wait times. The wait times are utterly ridiculous. We’re talking 5-8 hours average. They triage all animals coming in, so it makes complete sense that urgent animals would need to be seen first, and I understand that their current times may be exacerbated by COVID-19 procedure, but when the CHEAPEST you can get in and out when bringing your pet here is $300, you need to do better for your patients. Hire more staff, hire more DVMs.
2. Communication. It is very lacking and very disorganized, and honestly one of the most frustrating experiences about this place. We brought our kitten here most recently for ingesting a hair tie. We arrived at 2:20am. At 2:30ish they came to the parking lot to get her (COVID-19 procedure) and explained that they were going to give her a drug to induce vomiting. The tech assured us we would be called in 30-45 minutes to be informed whether or not the drug worked to make her vomit and what next steps are. My partner and I decided on staying until we heard back. Well, the thing is, we didn’t. Finally, at 4:00am, we got cold and headed home. At 7:00am, we finally received a call from the DVM who took our girl’s case. She stated that we had two options, wait for the hair tie to pass, knowing there could be serious issues with a blockage or constriction of the intestine, or go with an endoscopy to remove the hair tie. We decided on the endoscopy, knowing that due to her age, there is a higher amount of risk. Was the drug to induce vomiting ever given? Did it work but was unable to get the hair tie up? Did it not work? Honestly no clue, as we weren’t told. Anyways, the DVM assured us that the other DVM performing the endoscopy would call us before and after her procedure in the early afternoon to update us. Well, we get a call around 1:00pm that she is ready to be picked up. Very confused, we ask if the procedure had been completed, which it had. I understand this place is busy, and I understand they’ve got a lot to juggle, but pets are family. Do better and try harder when it comes to communicating with your patients’ families.
3. Price. We expected this one to be high, as it is a business, and emergency vet services tend to be high anyways. We spent $2,800 total for our girl to be seen and for the endoscopy for the hair tie situation. The quickest and most prompt communication arrived when we were called for a $2,000 deposit, which left a sour taste in our mouths. You can’t update us on our pet, but you can call quickly for a sizable deposit? At the end of the day, I get it, it’s a business, but you need to be aware treatment for your pet is not going to be cheap and it is most likely going to cost thousands of dollars.
Overall, yes, they will care for your pet, and the quality of care seemed to be okay. However, this place needs sizable improvement in more than one area of their operations.

I just took my cat here for the second time. I was 100% certain he would need an xray (possibly other tests) and was ready to pay whatever cost. Dr. Tennyson was able to make a diagnosis through a physical exam and said she did not feel any other tests were necessary. My wallet and I were extremely grateful. She was super kind over the phone, answered all my questions, and kept complimenting my cat.
They're also taking caution with COVID. They took my cat from the parking lot and I was free to leave. It took a couple hours to get a call back but that's totally expected at an emergency vet and he was not in any condition that needed immediate attention.
Ray Elle
They were very well organized during covid my dog had a bite to the eye lid and they r the only eye specialist around. We waited n the car for every step of the process. Took about 2 hrs for the overall appointment.
Lydia Bouza
I am giving 3 stars because I didnt actually have them check my cat. Because of covid19 I wouldve had to wait in the parking lot 4 hrs. The medical staff were polite, and informed me of that. They also said that if i could find another vet to see cat sooner to do so . hopefully I will never have to use them. But because of their transparency and concern for animal comfort, I would visit.
Update: thanks for the unnecessary reply. I was made well aware of the wait time. I wasn't angry about that, I understood. I took your staff member advice, which worked out better as my cat started to get extremely ill. I am glad your service exists but like any parent , truly hope i dont need it. The covid19 precautions you have in place are very reassuring.

I cant say enough good things about this place!! Dr krug is exceptionally gifted at what he does. My dog had a procedure done here a couple days ago and they followed up with me and sent me and my pup home with very detailed instructions on how to provide care for her during her healing time. Before her procedure dr krug had a detailed conversation with me about what to expect and what he needed to do. Super friendly people and very informative. Wouldn't hesitate to go back here if we ever needed to!

Like 4.25 stars. 1 complaint, see next paragraph.
They saved my dog's life from heart failure. The relief that my dog can live longer is great and another good relief of the estimated cost of 3-4000 ended up being 2200. Overnight with oxygen box, cardiology, echo, ultrasound, etc. Thank you for saving his life and my wallet.
My only and biggest complaint is that they did not even bother to cut the 4 pills that he was given. 3 of those pills were half the size of a pinky nail and then I had to cut 2 of those in half and 1 of those into quarters! With the amount spent and time that was given to him, which I am both satisfied with, I was deeply disappointed that they could not help me and my baby with cutting the pills.

My best bud developed some heart issues in the last two years. We originally took him to Purdue and had a recheck with Dr. Luthey (Cardiologist) at Medvet. What a great experience. He explained everything to us and answered all of my questions before I could even ask. Fast forward 6 months later and it was obviously time for my dog to have a dental. I was pretty nervous because of his slight heart condition and because his last dental back at my old vet in Pennsylvania was such a bad experience for him. We met with Dr. Saverino and team and they explained the planned procedure in an initial consultation as well as got everything cleared with Dr. Luthey. The day of the procedure, about an hour after I dropped my dog off I got a call from Dr. Saverino. Of course I’m worried because I’m thinking either something bad came up in his pre op blood work or something bad happened during surgery. Nope, it was just the doctor calling to give me an update, which she did 2x more during the procedure! When I picked him up he was already up and about, just a little out of it from the anesthesia. 24 hours later he already wanted to play, was eating normally and pretty much back to normal. The last time we had this procedure done at my normal vet he was noticeably in pain and it took him about 48-60 hours to get back to being his old self. Upon discharge everything was explained to me, what teeth were extracted, medication, what he should eat, etc. And the bill was lower than the low end of the estimate!
We’re really lucky to have a facility with specialist and the equipment that Medvet has here in Chicago. It’s really amazing the level of care they offer - imagine they were able to show me a sonogram (I think) of my dogs heart with the directional flow of blood color coded. It’s really incredible. The dental surgery included every aspect that is noted if you look up what your surgeon should do for a successful surgery (intubation, dedicated vet tech monitoring his vitals/anesthesia), etc.
I know some procedures may seem expensive to some, but when you compare the level of care and expertise that Medvet offers you can understand why.
Thanks for taking excellent care of my best buddy.
Al Wakefield
The nurses and doctor were very nice! They brought my dog inside quickly to get him treated. The doctor was very detailed in their diagnosis.

Thank you MedVet Chicago! We brought our 6 year old boxer mix to this emergency veterinarian following acute bouts of vomit which turned bloody in the afternoon. We realized this was a health emergency for our beloved George and knew that it was nothing to make light of. Although the wait time was long (understandably during our current pandemic conditions) we were informed by the emergency room technician that if George required immediate attention, we would be notified straightaway. Luckily Georgie's vitals were stable and so he waited patiently to be attended to. Dr. Hilton saw Georgie boy later in the evening and, through a series of phone calls, explained honestly what her findings were along with her diagnostic and treatment plans. Due to the open and honest communication and cooperation with us in deciding the best path forward, Georgie is making a rapid recovery. Thank you Dr. Hilton and MedVet Chicago for your compassion and attentive care to our beloved dog.

The ladies and gentlemen that work here have a highly demanding job. I think they do a fantastic job. It's a beautiful clean facility with highly professional employees.

I brought my pup in after he ate rat poison and realized my normal vet was closed for the day. Luckily MedVet Chicago was recommended for emergency care. The staff at MedVet Chicago was kind, patient, and professional. They acted fast when they needed to and were very straightforward about the cost. I could not have asked for a better place. I'm so grateful for their patience with me, a panicked dog mom, and there efforts with my little boy.
Diana Conley
I love MedVet Chicago. I have had to use them for three different dogs over a 20 year period. Consistent direct, compassionate, professional care every time. You will wait a long time as it is emergency treatment. Crisis pets go to head of line, as they should. It is worth the wait. New expanded facilities look great from outside. COVID 19 precautions have you waiting outside.
Haley Cleveland
Extremely thankful for my experience with medvet. I know they worked hard to help me figure out what’s going on with my pups nose. Everyone I spoke with was so kind and completely understand my needs. Will go back if I ever need to! Thank you so much
Peter Marcy
The level of compassion and care at Med Vet is unparalleled. It is expensive, but you get what you pay for. They were so kind to both us and our little Chi mix Mr. Lucky. He had emergency surgery. Communication before, during and after from the different specialist doctors involved was thorough and timely. The techs providing hourly care were EXCELLENT. If you need acute emergency care, this is the place to bring your beloved best friend

Our puppy was showing signs of bad kennel cough so we needed to get him seen right away. It was a Saturday. We got there and checked in over the phone. We were told it would be 3-4 hour wait. So we'll home and waited for them to call. All in all, it was 4+ hours to get in and out. The vet was kind and we received his medicine quickly.
Torri Fisher
Very convenient considering most places don't handle emergencies/ same day appts during Covid very well if at all. Everyone was kind, professional and efficient. The wait in my car flew by. They treated my baby with care and I receive a generous verbal discussion and writeup of the medications and next steps. The bill wasn't nearly as bad as I thought and they didn't balk when I declined a test. Overall, 5 stars.
Tinesha Hendrix
Woke up and my kitty girl had a cloudy eye. Found this hospital by chance and took her straight there. I was very nervous since I couldn’t go in due to COVID. But seeing how they handled other pets coming in made me feel better. They took great care of my girl and her eye is already starting to clear up. Would definitely recommend this emergency vet

I took my big boy Nanook in on June 28th 2021 due to a growth that was found in his abdomen by my veterinarian.
Metvet was able to diagnose what the growth was and called me and spoke with me concerning their findings.
Unfortunately the news was bad and we had to make the hard but right decision to Euthanize. The entire staff treated us with the upmost respect and they even followed up with a phone call expressing their condolences. Great medical facility glad we were able to get the right services for Nanook.

This animal ER works just like a human ER....If your vitals are stable, you will wait....I waited 6.5 hours to see the vet, and just for the vet to exam your pet, cost $250..if you need an xray, that's $350...plus the costs of meds....it's pretty expensive, but if your fur baby is sick, you have to do what you have to do.
Rebecca F
I'm going to write as honest of a review as I can. I took my cat here when he was having serious constipation. This is like a human ER for any unfamiliar - it gets busy, and some emergencies are more serious than others. It doesn't work like a store. If you wait until the last minute to take care of your furry child similar to your own health, you will have to pay the price.
I would recommend, however, that you request as much transparency as you can with pricing. You are your and your pet's advocate, so do your research and ask for what you do not know. This will ensure no surprises during a potentially difficult time.
I do wish they provided more explanation with their process and services. I felt sort of lost trying to figure out what they wanted me to say or review.
I was late going to the vet by a few months and could have saved $500-700 dollars going on time, but I put it off too long and paid the price. American ERs of any kind are expensive. If you cannot afford a $137 fee just for your pet to be looked at, do not come here. X-rays, blood work and urinalysis with the visit all cost over $800 dollars. I do feel like these fees are too pricey, but that is definitely American healthcare for you, so be prepared.

My vet sent me here for a really bad eye ulcer/infection because they are one of the few places that has an ophthalmologist. The exam room wasn't clean but the tech cleaned it right away. The Dr didn't come in, she told them how to treat it over the phone which saved me money & the treatment so far has been great. I found their prices to be reasonable. They were slow processing people & definitely need more staff on the weekends. But for diagnosis & treatment, I was satisfied. The eye doctor's office is above them & I love them. They are very thorough, caring & reasonably priced so far. My cat was in serious danger of losing her eye. It's been a long couple of weeks doing the treatment but it's been worth it. I would go there again, it just sounds like you need to know which doctors to avoid. Dr Gaerig is excellent!

I had to take my 21 year old kitty when it was her time.
Everyone was compassionate and understanding. We were treated with respect and care.
I cannot thank them enough for making a hard situation a little better.
Thanks to the staff!
They had a room for us ready, paperwork was simple and quick.
They treated my kitty as their own.
I have nothing but gratitude.
When the time is right, my next pet will be seen here for sure.
I am a veterinary dr myself, so I have a good point of reference.

Katie , is absolutely the greatest person I’ve ever met , makes you feel so cared about in a stressful situation , Thank you Katie for helping others in their time if need !!! You are the BIGGEST BLESSING

It's a good place. They helped my puppy when he had a stomach bug. I did wait six hours in my car and it was expensive, but they were the only ones open and nurses were super nice to my doggo. I'm grateful to them.

Excellent emergency veterinary Care. Saved our dogs life

Good experience. They treated my sick pup and she's doing better now. The doctor gave me options on treatment and cost, I didn't feel oversold and appreciated her honesty.

In April my dog was laying in her dog bed and all of a sudden jumped out and wouldn't put her back leg down. She wouldn't put any weight on it and was whimpering, so she was clearly in pain! Her regular vet didn't have any evening appointments and advised I go to MedVet. Based on some not stellar reviews I had seen before when toggling with the idea of bringing her here, I was nervous and scared. However, we had to go.
We signed in and they let us know that the order in which animals are treated are triage based (seems fair, even though at the time this was frustrating). We ended up waiting for 5 hours until we were seen at which point, it was determined by X-rays and evaluation that her hip socket bone had popped out and become completely dislocated. My pup had to stay overnight to be monitored and have surgery the following day to remove the bone socket.
The overnight nurse that took care of her was SOOOOO attentive and sweet! They let you in the back to say goodbye to your pup before you leave and introduce you to who will be watching over them overnight. This helped calm my nerves and is a really fantastic thing that they do for pet owners!
The next day, they called to give me an update in the morning, as well as called before she went in for surgery. The surgeon calls you before and after to provide updates and answer any questions you have (Dr. Holmes was/is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!)
They let you know when your animal will be discharged and when they can be picked up, as well as next steps for recovery and future appointments. Every single person I interacted with at Medvet was attentive, kind, and so so patient! I'm happy to report that my little yorkie has fully recovered and is walking and running like normal with zero issues post surgery or our visit(s) to MedVet. Will definitely be going here again for any future concerns or emergency appt. needs!

We were referred to Dr. King in ophthalmology after seeing two vets who could not explain the recurrent inflammation of our dogs third eyelid. Dr King was so calming to a worried pet owner, his explanations were thorough, reassured me our pup wasn’t in pain (based on testing) and wasn’t contagious with anything. He always offered a wide range of options, he explained every test, the purpose of the test and what he anticipated to rule in/rule out. He pushed conservative treatments and testing first. Dr. King called me after our first round of testing and spent at least 15 minutes on the phone with me explaining both positive and negative results, and what he would do next for treatment if it was his dog. Every visit Dr. King made sure to pause as he explained his findings and discussed plane of care to make sure I understood what he was saying and to give me time to ask any questions before he continued. He would always discuss our treatment going forward and prepare for if something were to change what he may recommend so that we knew what we were up against, could do our own research, monitor our pup appropriately and not surprised. His team was SO good to Walter, you could tell they genuinely enjoy their work and making the dogs comfortable during their visit. You can see in the picture below just what a difference Dr King made.

They seem to be exceptionally qualified to diagnose and handle complicated issues with pets.
However, you have to be aware that they offer services that are expensive and not necessarily helpful, but play people's emotions.
Example: my cat: they offered to "keep her overnight for observation" at a cost of $2,000. When they eventually identified that she had two tumors, they quoted surgery at $6-$9k.
I just cannot comprehend how they justify these prices. Be prepared to spend big money.

My very old kitty was doing really badly, two minutes after I arrived they rushed him to the small ICU in urgent care, and while he was there they spoke clearly and directly to me about possible options of treatment and of letting him go. They were upfront regarding cost benefit analysis of options. When I decided perhaps it was his time to go they brought him to me and gave me as much time as I needed to just be with him and hold him, and were so empathetic and understanding. I'd had this kitty since I was 5 and I couldn't have asked for more than what they did for him and for me.

My kitty died here because they couldn't do anything, she was already too sick. I'm glad they treated me well, and helped me with feeling better. They even offered to give me her ashes there, which takes 3 days and u pick them up. The visit was $300. The vallet lady was nice too. I'm happy with how I was treated here last Friday :)

We have been working with Dr. Aufox in the dermatology department for our rescue dogs nasty ear infection, goopy eyes, and some serious hot spots. After a strict diet plan and some great prescription ear treatment we could not be happier. Our dogs skin eyes and ears have cleared up and she hasn't been scratching. We've concluded she has some food allergies. I would highly recommend this vet, the dermatology department, and all the techs. Thanks for all you do!
Ellie Julier
Dr. Volbrecht has taken extremely thorough care of my senior dog twice, and was warm and kind while being direct and maintaining a lightness and sense of humor. We had to see the cardiologist, who is such a wonderful person. He thoroughly explained everything in person and over the phone, and was wearing the best Snoopy Christmas tie when I came to pick up (if that doesn't say trustworthy, I don't know what does.)
Yes, it's a small facility and we waited three hours to be seen on a Sunday (which is just the way it goes), but every single tech and front desk person was kind, attentive, and straightforward. They ran everything extremely smoothly amid the chaos, and dealt with stressed and high-maintenance human clients with patience and grace. Very grateful to have MedVet close by.
Scott Hesse
The staff and doctors at MedVet treated our dog very well! The doctor took us step by step through a minor procedure for which my dog had to be sedated. Very nice, caring, and professional!
Sandra Fonseca
We brought our kitty in for an abscess on his cheek. Medvet was doing curb-side check-ins during covid distancing. I'm sure all the Vets and techs were extremely exhausted with all the extra work!
They were great! Everyone we spoke to and dealt with was professional and caring. We spoke with Dr Davis who explained every step they would take to clean the abscess. She was so kind, and we felt like she truly cared about our fur-baby. We were nervous because Sebastian is 20 yrs old, but everything went fine, thanks to the Dr. Davis and her caring staff.]

Needed a 24-hour vet when my dog woke me up in pain in the middle of the night. Came here and was greeted by friendly staff, then triaged and saw the vet quickly. Thankfully, my dog did not need any additional diagnostics or procedures. The total cost of visit and medication was not much more than I'd expect for a normal daytime office visit. I hope I never need their services again, but if I do, I'll be back.
Bill Davis
The team at MedVet Chicago are first class! We had an amazingly positive experience on our multiple visits to Dr. Alyssa Pinkos. She took time to explain our dog’s medical condition, help tailor a care plan and coach us through our dog’s issues. Thanks to her extra efforts our dog had the highest quality of life, of which we are forever grateful. Highly recommend Dr. Pinkos and her cardiology team!

I went to MedVet for an emergency on a weekend. My dog Jo was not acting normal and i suspected he had bloat. I went there due to it being a 24 hour facility and they were extremely helpful. They came out to my car with a stretcher to get him into the facility, kept me posted about every single thing they were doing. Unfortunately I had to put him down due to bloat- I had already gathered that by the time we walked into the door. The staff there is amazing. they are supportive, they know how to do their jobs. While my visit there ended with my pet being put down, I still give this Veterinary hospital an A++. keep doing the amazing work that you do, workers at MedVet!
Armani A
The procedure was to call a number and they'd send a technician over after getting a brief medical history of the pet. Then they send a technician and call you within a few minutes to update you on the pet in need.
Very brief and very polite and they are very upfront of how much procedures will cost.

We brought our kitty Max here late on a Saturday night. The staff was very kind and respectful. They examined Max and spoke with us about our options. Turns out our kitty had a massive hairball lodged in his lower esophagus and needed an endoscopy to remove it. It took them twice to get it to move. Max was there for 4 days recovering. They were kind enough to cap our bill based on the original quote that was given. They gave him a kennel large enough for a big dog and jokingly called it his garden apartment. They ate their lunch with him and gave him tons of attention. They never minded us showing up or calling at anytime of the night for a progress report. Even though it was a hard time they made it so much easier for us. I truly felt like they cared and that he was in good hands. Max made a full recovery and is still his goofy self. I highly recommend them. Thank you so much for being so kind to us and Max!

The vets at Medvet really care about the pets and really are good at finding out what is wrong and know what to in an emergency. One vet called me throughout the night updating me on Sarge, my German Shepherd. I was a nervous wreck to find out he had cancer but I greatly appreciated how much they cared.
Andrea DeAngelis
Our 3 year old black lab, Mia, randomly had a seizure in the middle of the night last night. I had Med Vet’s number saved in my phone for emergencies like this one. When we arrived, Mia was acting normal again but they had a triage doctor check her vitals immediately. We waited a little over an hour for the doctor to meet with us, which seemed like forever in the middle of the night but there were some very sick other pets in there and sad owners so we understood. The doctor we saw took his time analyzing Mia and talked us through what happened. They didn’t push us to do any unnecessary tests or anything. We appreciate the hard working men and women who took care of our Mia when nothing else was open. Thank you so much!

The whole parking-calling-dropping off-leaving-calling-parking-calling-paying-calling-picking up thing was a little bit annoying but honestly it was better than any experience at an emergency vet prior to this. It was nice not to have to stick around in the waiting room, and though it's definitely more expensive than the regular vet it ended up costing up being less than I feared it would.

MedVet has quite literally saved both of my dog’s lives on two different occasions- an asthma stricken puppy and an HBE ridden 3 year old. The follow up and attention are both top notch; friendly, understanding and helpful staff from both reception and doctors. When my Frank was up for release, they did not try and prey upon me in my fragile state to keep him another day for the money as they were concerned about his health first and foremost. You can’t put a price on a life— even if it’s a pet. Thanks, MedVet.

We brought our dog Ruki in for an emergency after a disastrous vet visit where he was misdiagnosed and we are so thankful to the MedVet staff! They were very busy but were clear, calm and communicative the entire time- never rushing us off the phone and compassionately responding to all of our questions at length. They gave us a realistic timeline, updated us every step of the way and provided us with advice for financing the unexpected expenses. Ruki had to stay overnight so they could stabilize him and run some tests. In order to do so we had to put down a deposit for care. When all was said and done he got great care and we got a little money back from our deposit. We went home with very clear instructions for aftercare and suggestions for preventative care going forward. They saved his life and we are soso grateful. Thank you!!

Wonderful service! They were so kind and were very thorough in explaining care for my dog.
My dog had a procedure done with Dr. Saverino in dentistry and I am beyond pleased. Her and the team went above and beyond!

I recently had a pet diagnosed with aggressive cancer and she was seen here for 6 weeks before I had to put her down. They were so attentive and empathetic I would recommend them to anyone. It was the hardest decision I've had to make and they really helped me come to peace with the decision.

This is months late !! My father lives in Chicago with our dog that we found on the street and raised together. I am a veterinary nurse living in Pennsylvania working at an emergency and specialty hospital so when our dog Stout had a foreign body it was very difficult for me being so far and unable to help. A criticalist at my hospital told me to send him to MedVet and they were AMAZING — I wish that I could remember the name of the receptionist because she handled me and my father so well. I was the difficult family member in the veterinary field and my father was the client that left the parking lot while waiting to be seen through ER (COVID protocols had everyone waiting outside). Stout was admitted and when I called at 4am for an update the nurse was kind, understanding, and not offended by my asking specific questions about his treatments. I cannot say enough good things. They made everything so easy and even the discharge nurse went above and beyond by going over everything with me and then again with my father. She was a saint. Thank you all!!

My pitbull ate something that had him terribly sick the professionals at this place were great. I left knowing all my options. And my boy was good in 2 days.

Emergency vet visits are never fun, but the staff was very friendly, and kept us up to date with everything that was going on with our cat while he was there over night

Today we had to put our beloved Norwegian Forest cat to sleep. I called to confirm that this facility was open on Easter Sunday. (Our family vet is in the suburbs and closed on the weekends). I spoke with a lovely, compassionate woman. It took us awhile to say our goodbyes at home—so when we finally arrived at MedVet the waiting room was quite full. One of the receptionists at the front desk recognized me as the caller from earlier in the morning. She immediately placed me and our cat in a room. A nurse entered the room and asked permission to take Wilson back to the exam room to insert an IV. As it turns out, Wilson was so near death that they could not insert the IV. A vet came into the room to explain the situation. He passed away within minutes of arriving at MedVet. We opted for cremation services. We were handled with great and tender care. The cost was extremely reasonable. We could opt for payment today or to wait until we picked up Wilson’s ashes. Thank you, MedVet for being there when our family needed you!

I had to bring my pup in in the evening hours over a holiday weekend when my regular vet was closed, it wasnt a life or death matter, and I will spare you the details, but he needed to be seen rather quickly because the problem could have escalated and I wasnt comfortable waiting to see my vet. We were in and out in about an hour, which, I think, is great for an emergency room visit! We only needed a vet tech, and aside from emergency instances, we were seen in the order that we arrived. The tech was super helpful, answered all of our questions, and was really kind. I also take my dog to the same facility for his cardiology appointments and I have nothing but praise for Dr. Luethy, his staff, and the reception team at MedVet!

They saw my dog quickly (compared to other wait times I was quoted in the area), kept me up to date, was up front about costs, and while expensive (because what emergency vet on a Saturday night isn’t?!) I thought the price seemed fair.

Had to get an emergency ultrasound for my boy cat and they were able to find time and call us back same day. It didn't work out for poor Robbie but the staff was very patient understanding and kind.

I brought my cat, Morty, in at 3:30 a.m.--during Covid--for ingestion of a foreign object. They were the only 24-hour emergency room facility in our area, so I was not expecting much. With this is mind, I was absolutely blown away by the prompt, professional, and kind service we received from everyone. Within 15-20 minutes of dropping Morty off at the front door, Dr. Hilton called with a detailed assessment and multiple options for us to consider (we opted for xrays after discussion and realized the blockage had moved to small intestines). She was extremely knowledgeable and patient, answering all of our many questions. I cannot express enough the comfort and trust I felt with her as a clinician. The prices are high, as one would expect at an emergency facility, ultimately resulting in us taking Morty to a facility closer to home for the procedure. As a result, the entire time he was at the other facility, I was second guessing the decision to remove him from the care of MedVet. Our situation worked out, and Morty is as good as can be. However, in light of our experience, I’m not sure I would encourage seeking outside care if you have the means. They had great communication, were highly skilled, professional, and gave the feel of your neighborhood vet. I very much appreciate the care they gave and the experience as a whole. Even the billing department was reasonable and kind... enough said ;)
Edit: I feel that i must add that the quote was actually higher than the actual cost. i think this is an important piece of info when dealing with an emergency facility. YES you dont have other options, but NO this facility is not trying to bleed you dry. Im surprised they were honest, knowing full well that we would have pay whatever they quoted for the estimate. We were quoted $500 more than we actually paid- i don't think this situation is posted enough!

Compassionate and caring practice. They deal with people during difficult times and in particular with our malamute that had inoperable brain tumors. They handled grave news with compassion and gave us as much time as we needed to say goodbye.

I brought my cat in to this hospital when her condition was worrying me. A nurse triaged her right away and we were immediately brought into the exam room. A doctor came in shortly after to examine my cat and when she discovered how critical my cat was, she whisked the cat into the back to start an IV and do blood work. I wasn't there for more than 15 minutes before my cat's treatment began.
After some tests, the vet told me that my cat was not responding to treatment and what was likely wrong. The prognosis was not good. Through tears I asked her what I should do, and she told me that I could treat or euthanize. The vet didn't push either way, so I asked her what she would do, and she told me honestly that if it were here cat, she would euthanize.
Although I am heartbroken that it was necessary for me to attend this hospital, every person I met with and talked to was overwhelmingly kind, supportive and comforting. I had the room for as long as I wanted, and they even helped me out when the bill came. I don't know how this place has such bad reviews, but I can't thank everyone here enough for how they took care of me and my cat.

First, let me say Dr Johnson (the surgeon) was extremely nice and gave us his time and attention in a very grave situation. I so appreciate his coming back when he was leaving for the day to help us understand the situation.
Why then 3 stars? I was referred there by my Vet to obtain an ultrasound and a blood transfusion for my dog. When we got there a little after 5 p.m. we were told no ultrasound technician was on staff overnight. How can this be? This is an emergency hospital how can they not have the appropriate staff?
We are in mourning for our loving kind sweet boy.

I just wanted to thank The workers who helped me out with my dog hunter Samano on February 16th 2021 @2:40 in the morning. I also wanted to thank the doctor who worked with hunter that night. He was very truthful and supportive on my decision with hunter. I love how much thought and effort was put into my dogs ashes with the paw print and vase ❤️ .
Much love from the Samano’s
Thank you.

Mostly great. I picked up my cat around 6 am and the nurse who delivered her to me didn’t know anything about her situation to answer my questions which was frustrating. Everything other than that was great.

We brought our dog in at about midnight on a Saturday for a toe with an abscess that had ruptured. Not emergent, but needed to be taken care of before our regular vet appointment on Monday. Took about an hour to get him into a room and checked out, and then about an hour to examine/clean wound/medicate.
We went into it thinking it would be an awful experience, but everyone was kind, the vet took time to talk to us, and we left with a much smaller bill than anticipated.

Met vet was great. The staff was friendly and took necessary precaution to keep us and my furr baby safe. I would definitely recommend and hopefully we never have to go back but would if needed.

This was my first time ever going to this place. I had to unfortunately had to put my baby boy down. Im happy i had to do it there. The ladys were so nice and understanding. Everytime I talked to someone super nice. I cant remember the doctors name but she was awesome. She didnt try to take advantage of getting money she was up front about everything. I got his ashes and a paw print, and the ashes were cheaper then the place I had to put one other dog down. If I have another emergency. I will definitely come back to this place

Took care of our dog incredibly well. At time of emergency doing lookups and this looked and seemed best bet to take our dog under the circumstances at the time. Overall was the wisest choice for us

The wait was too long for them to see my dog who I brought in because blood was gushing out. The doctor and the nurse/vet tech were compassionate and empathetic.

I brought my cat in around 3am with resperitory distress. I was immediately brought back to a room and she was immediately seen by a tech and the doctor shortly after. Although I ultimately decided to euthanize, I was offered a number of options. Throughout the process the entire staff was kind and caring. Even after she was gone the doctor still lifted her body tenderly, which was a respect I truly appreciated.

I brought you elderly cat here when she had sudden symptoms of what was diagnosed as Stage 4 kidney failure. I was a mess, and they were so understanding and patient with me... and after 2 days of aggressive fluid therapy, we were allowed to take her home!
A year later, after daily IV therapy and close veterinary monitoring, she had a series of seizures. We took her back and we're told very patiently after an exam that she was not going to pull through, and the kindest thing was to give her peace. It was devastating but they gave us options and honest recommendations... I couldn't have asked for better treatment in that fragile situation.
I truly believe these vets do everything they can for the animals they treat and give equal respect to their humans. All our pets will be entrusted to them, and we're grateful to know they're there if/when we need them again.
