Reviews of Chicago Animal Care and Control
Brittany Diedrich
CACC is underrated for all the work they do for the city animals especially as an open intake. Volunteering and fostering dogs out of here has been the most rewarding. I don’t think people realize how many great dogs (of all different breeds) come through CACC along with a lot of other cats and small animals. Check out Safe Humane to do group volunteering or sign up to walk dogs so much help is needed!!

I was able to find my baby girl during an adoption event. When you walk in the place is clean and doesn't smell. The place could use more volunteers so the animals can walk everyday and possibly have more human interaction. Everyone who was working the day of the event was wonderful and knew a lot about the animals up for adoption. The match making in my case I think was perfect. I am big on rescuing animals so this place was perfect.

I love the work that they are doing here. I know it's based on volunteers. I wish there was more volunteers to help out. The animals here are so loved unfortunately there's sooo many of them! I wish I lived closer to help. We adopted our puppy Sage from here. I looked on their Facebook page and their website to find her. The website needs a to be updated a little bit and more details for bringing in an animal for a meet and greet. It's inconvenient for no one to answer phones but I've seen how busy it gets. However once it was our turn to meet the pups and finalize adoption it was very smooth sailing. I was actually emailing someone for a week to make sure everything would be set when we went back to visit and adopt. Definitely reach out with email if you have any questions. But again they're doing amazing work. I love the love they give their animals. I love how they help train the pups on basic commands also. They work with them on leash training as well!!!

Love my short haired girl cat 5 months old. She was well kept. Her behavior is awesome. She eat well, play with her toys run jump. Healthy. I will be going to try and get her brother today. My Turkish Van boy cat really enjoy her. ❤️❤️❤️

I just gave them the perfect little baby I named him Leo the lady that came and got him was so nice and gentle with him I hope to see that he got adopted in these reviews I really wish I could have kept my sweet little baby but I hope he gets the best home

I love this place more than words could explain. In 2019 my boy was stolen from me, he was found and brought to this place. I finally got him back after 6 months without him. 1 week ago I adopted a new baby boy from CACC and I couldn't be any happier. I'm a proud pitty momma!!!

I just want to say that the supervisor Del Rio (I can't exactly emember his name) was helpful, kind, patient and understanding when I came in to get more info on a bite incident notice. He told me everything I needed to do before my court date because I did not received a first notice, only a final notice with a court date. I called animal control after I received the letter and wasn't getting any clear instructions on what to do. The Supervisor was the only friendly one there and the only helpful one. We appreciate people like him in the field.

I was leery of bringing my cat son here for adoption after reading the reviews however I was surprised by how helpful the staff was. The security officer was only doing her job with telling me the correct hrs to surrender a pet (I was 4hrs too early). However she did suggest that I speak to a supervisor. I told her there was no need the rules are the rules, but she suggested I do because I might can be accommodated. The supervisor came and I expressed how the security officer did her duty of informing me of the correct time but that the process of giving my baby up for adoption and dealing with a grandmother that is hospitalized was weighing heavy on me. She made an exception and received my Boxer Baby and I was grateful. The security officer made me feel better, the supervisor made a tough decision for me, and the intake clerk expressed empathy and was kind. I now pray that Boxer is adopted into a loving home and that he is treated well while staying there.

I dropped of a female Tortie cat yesterday, I was very emotional just because I love cats a lot but I cant afford to take in a 3rd pregnant cat. I just wanted the best for her:( But I know this place will meet her needs and I feel more at ease that she is there. This Place is amazing i know they have compassion towards animals. Good job Guys! Thanks for everything 💕
K Elizabeth
I was there training to be a dog walker. Some many loving animals.....they just want some love. Everyone should try volunteering.

Tip - Make sure that all family members are present to adopt - and need permission from your landlord.
While this place does need some improvements, I adopted my best friend from this place and I encourage anyone looking for a companion to consider an animal in need from here.
My pups was an owner surrender and it must have broken their heart because this little guy is a dream. He needed a little coaching and training but now I can't imagine life without him!
Easy parking on the side or on the street.

I was taking my cat here to find her a new home I'm moving and they don't accept cats upon my arrival, they told me that they couldn't take my cat in, and I have to make a appointment and come back later I didn't like that at all, then they also suggested if I wanted too leave her, they will put her down!!!!! Like kill her!!! I was in tears so, I made a appointment to bring her back..smh

We adopted our first doggie from here on June first, 2022!!!! Woohoohooha!!!

Went here to adopt a cat after the one I had died. Staff was very kind & polite! The cats were all cool. But I got a kitten. He is a very active kitten. It has been 6 months of joy with my new friend. Awesome shelter

I attended the free adoption event and found my dream pup. The staff are very busy but you can tell that the volunteers make sure each dog gets attention. The parking was scarce. I like that they have a lost pet database.

Had the best adoption experience here. Worked with Jeanine, who had an impressive and honest relationship with the animals available for adoption. She helped us find a cat who was the perfect fit for my older brother - they've bonded so quickly and well over the last week or so. In a world of uncertainty and worry with the pandemic, CACC did a great job bringing some happiness to my family and a safe and loving home to another cat. And not to mention, Jeanine gifted the adopted cat with so many thoughtful gifts and a box - all included with the $65 adoption fee. Setting up the adoption did not take too much of a hassle, just a bit of a wait because it was the holidays.
Christine Litrenta
This place was clean and organized. We strongly recommend anyone come here when looking for a pet. We came here to get my mother a new kitty friend. Krista in the cat room was extremely patient with us, and Jeannie at the main information desk was very patient, helpful, and knowledgeable. Mom adopted a cat named Celia that she renamed Ginger. She and Ginger have been together for like five days now and they are already deeply in love 🤩

Oh man! Be prepared to spend some time there, but a really wonderful place to find a pet. We've adopted a beautiful young Pitbull female named Sheba. The sweetest dog in the world and enough energy to run a small town, LOL. Later on, we plan to go back and adopt some kitty cats. My youngest granddaughter must have kitty cats. She will love Sheba
along with her sister, but kitty cats are a necessity, LOL. I'm glad I'm retired because it's going to be busy. The volunteers at this establishment must be commended because this is something that they don't have to do, they are there because they want to be. Go there and support this organization, adopt one of God's creatures. You're saving a life and doing good work bringing happiness to your home.

I was very glad they was able to take a puppy from me give him surgery and then find him a forever home,❤️ Thanks. They was also able to take in his two sisters and find them their forever home ❤️ Thanks.

VOLUNTEERS VOLUNTEERS VOLUNTEERS ! This place would be nothing without them. Best ppl ever. Such a tremendous support system. I would have never been able to save this boy's life without them and he would've never found his soulmate.
S.Candy Mayfield
They found our Red-Nose Pitbull on my birthday!!! She is still healing from being spayed! But overall she was found and taken care of in excellent condition at CACC! THANK YOU ALL!!
Michael Boyadjian
There are so many wonderful volunteers here and everyone is incredibly professional. The cats and dogs are treated well and CACC accepts surrenders from people that can't take care of their pet.
My wife and I rescued an adorable, gentle pup after having the opportunity to meet him. Every dog we saw was worthy of rescuing. CACC posts videos of the dogs on YouTube as well, giving you an idea of how the dog behaves as well as interacts with other dogs and people. I highly suggest you check out the videos before visiting.
Entering the area where adoptable dogs are kept can be a little jarring. Naturally, there is a lot of barking and other intense sensory experiences, but that should be expected when there are that many dogs in one place. Consider that before bringing children or sensitive people to the area.
The adoption process was straightforward and didn't take long. The fee is very low and reasonable compared to other places that offer adoption, and CACC works hard to find good homes for the animals. We spent probably no more than a couple of hours there between meeting a couple of dogs we were interested in, submitting our application, and being screened for adoption. We walked out with a folder of papers offering a brief history of the dog's history at the shelter and general guidance on caring for the dog.
Then we went home with our new family member and we couldn't be happier.

After 3 weeks lost my beloved Pit bull was found by CAC. I am waiting for him now in reception.
Triveo Raggs
Staff was really nice I had to give my cat to them I really hate i couldn't find anyone to take him 😑 I love my baby and miss him so much. …
Hector Aquino
The service here is great. I found a stray dog and took him there. Pretty easy process
Dushaun Jr
I work there and enjoy the dogs and the staff is helpful and friendly, good vibe.
Martha Daniel
The staff is great, they clearly care for the animals in their care. They provide food, shelter and vetenarian support including shots and a good dose of love and affection. Please consider CACC when you are considering adopting a cat or dog. These creatures need a loving home. CACC has the difficult task of caring for these lost and discarded animals
They do an amazing job and the volunteer staff is an inspiration to all animal lovers. We adopted Abigail last month at a clear the shelter event. She is beautiful and a great addition to our family.
Quintus Puckett
Very wonderful staff met my needs upon arrival selection is well for your family needs
Thanks for everything 😊 …

What can I say they are professional people who care about animals! They love what they do!!!
Alexander Patterson Jr
My daughter and I dropped off 5 stray cats that we found. The facility was not very hard to find. The staff were very professional and we saw perfect examples how they handle positive and negative interactions from customers. My hats off to them for their Stellar customer service skills.
Alissa Anderson
I'm so grateful to this rescue for helping me adopt my two sweet kitties! I toured the facility and met some of the cats with Denise, who was so kind and helpful, and obviously had a lot of love for the animals there. The facility is nice, and didn't seem overly crowded. I would highly recommend adopting from CACC! I'm forever glad that I did.

I found a dog laying in the street, so after taking her to the police station to see if she had a chip (she didn't), I took her to Chicago Animal Care and Control. They took her in, provided me with her identification number to keep track of her. Within a short period of time, they had tended to her injured paws and bandaged them up, given her a bath, named her, and completed a short video of her so she could be found or adopted.
Aside for how long it took a staff to let me into the back of the facility to drop the dog off, the process was pretty seamless. I love the work that this facility does for animals.
Anna K Cobos
Adopted a beautiful pit here during Thanksgiving! Staff was very welcoming and helpful. They helped me choose the best pet for my home and I was not disappointed. Almost took home a cat, but then decided not to since I was content with my choice! The volunteers there also told me how to properly train my dog which was very helpful! They really know their stuff. I cannot thank them enough for helping me become a better owner and I thank them very much for all the great tips they gave me. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for a wonderful pet in need of a good home!
Keisha Denise
Very clean place people was very nice also they did a call up about the other strays I told them about around my alley way thanks for helping JACK'S the cat I brought in today
Christina Heaver
It was great got my cat Tommy Lee. Got him when he was 6 months. He is going to be 2 1/2 years old on Feb. 12,2019

Heart breaking, I found these 2 beautiful pups and I couldn't keep them in my home because of my dogs but they had a fun afternoon before I took them to the pound
Morgan Lucas
THIS place is wonderful!!! Very caring staff. Their mission is the safety and well being of the animals 1000%. The volunteers are angels too. Please donate to CACC!!!!! Food..blankets..treats..money...etc.

Appointments are needed, easy to schedule and replies are within days.
We scheduled an appointment to adopt a kitten the following week!
Thanks to all the workers and volunteers!!!

Great place to take a lost or found animal

-Please consider adopting from here. Dogs are only put down because CACC lacks space. Yes there's a lot of pit bulls but due to a lot of neighbors Back Yard Breeding these dogs for security without limitations or care. Pitbulls are NOT AN AGGRESSIVE BREED. That is a myth! A dog's behavior is dependent on the owner. Any problem can be trained out of them.
You cant donate money but you Can Donate old blankets, toys, toilet paper, sanitizer, food, dog beds. Volunteering helps the dogs feel loved vs being in a cage all day.
-Don't bring your animals here. They may be put down due to lack of space. Take them to a NO Kill shelter like the Anti Cruelty Society. They're very easy to work with
-I love the advertising efforts of the cacc team to get homes for the abandoned babies. I dropped off one of the first strays we rescue here
CONS
-I do just wish the state would regulate the program more. Some of the staff members are rude as with most government facilities. But fortunately I've noticed a few that love their job
The state shouldnt make it so easy for any person to put any dog down. The only time a dog should be put down is if it has some sort of illness that is causing constant pain.
-When you call CACC to rescue an animal,
-It's very difficult to get ahold of someone
-When they arrive, they would never dare get their fragile fingers dirty
-FIX YOUR RESPONSE TEAM. It definitely is doesn't help animal welfare

Courtney was very friendly and professional and helped me a great deal with information and resources about and for my dog.

All the staff there is Amazing. You can tell that they really love their jobs!!

I have an amazing experience with adopting a female pit named Luna. I worked with Olivia and Sia and they were both amazing! They helped me get everything set up even though I was 2000 miles away in California with the Marines. Once I got home I drove out and everything was already set for if I took Luna home. The process was very simple and everyone was amazing! Would highly recommend!
Christin Good
Great staff and awesome adoptable pets. Please go save a life 🙏 …

I adopted my Oliver back in July of 2017. He's very sweet. I had a great experience there. The woman who helped me adopt him was very friendly. I wish I could remember her name. The staff has always been friendly to me anytime I interacted with them. I was there all day and left with a new little buddy for me and a companion for my other dog. I'm sorry those who had a bad experience there didn't get treated better. As for the volunteers, same thing. They've always been very helpful and answer as many questions as possible. I'd rescue another pup from there if I could afford 3 because sadly it is a kill shelter. As far as giving the animals human food like I read in another review. I've never seen anything other than dog kibble being given to their dogs.
MARIANNE WILSON-REDMAN
Review meant for Harmony house for cats, not Animal Care and Control: I brought my 14 year old sick cat in to place her up for adoption and was willing to pay a fee. The lady who answered the door was under the mistaken impression I wanted to "trade" her in exchange for a "free" cat from her shelter. I admit my wrong doing in that I shouldn't have brought my cat without calling first, but it was it an embarassing assumption that my husband and I was looking for a "free hand out". Second, the staff would not even let my husband and I into the facility! We brought an extra person with unannounced, but he was a necessity..a department of human services worker who drives my senior citizen places as he cannot drive. The staff who answered the door was very rude but at the same time, I give her (the staff member who answered the door) credit for referring me to care and animal control where I was able to put my 14 year old cat down as she was very sick and in bad shape. I appreciate her and her staff's opinion regarding this and give them credit for this. I want to say thank you to them and sorry at the same time for whatever bad impression we may have caused.

Looking for Lost animals. They will take you around to check if your animals is there
Diana Southern Norman
They're doing a lot for the less fortunate animals of Chicago. I was surprised by how nice their setup is, considering the quantity of dogs they have here. So many loving faces ready to be adopted! If you're considering getting a pet, definitely come have a look to see if there's a good fit for you here. Rescue dogs are always the most loving! (They have a lot of cats here, too.)
Lesa Nycole
We adopted a cat and so in love with her. I'm going back to adopt another cat and a pit... they all deserve love. Anyone that feels they should be put down, someone should put you down... If you dont like animals JUST SAY THAT!
Veronica Lopez
Everyone was great and compassionate as I was in tears dropping my baby off. But due to circumstance I had to give my baby up. I would like to say thanks to the staff from the first e mail to my drop off appointment they made me feel better. Thanking them and yes I'm still in tears but I feel better leaving him with them and Tiger is great friendly loving pet for anyone. Thanks again CACC
Oneta Sampson
The City of Chicago has got to do more on financing the Department. There are not enough people to do the great work the few who show up every day ,who perform a selfless job...to care for animals and help people better understand the animals they have! Great job Animal Care and Control.
Gaspar Gutierrez
We got our new fur baby from here. We paid no adoption fees due to the June-July event. I believe we got extremely lucky with our girl as she is very well behaved. There's a bunch good looking dogs, mainly bully breeds, exhibiting great potential. Volunteers allow you to spend a little but of time with the dog of your choosing in an outside cage type deal and see how he/she behaves with you and your family. Don't try and calling this place, it's all voice recorded with general info. Bring your ID to see the dogs. This place is great and do their best with what they have, volunteers help make this place well.
Sandra Amorz
They didnt refuse taking the dog in,! They were very nice and kind!!!the dog was Chipped do they would be able to find the owners!
Joy Adams
The amount of care these officersgive to the animals are Amazing. The facility was clean and well kept no smells it anything. Animals are safe and cared for,and my dog and I were reunited. Very professional experience
Latheda Johnson
I found a dog and brought him here in hopes that he will be reunited with his owner. Yet if he doesn't I plan on adopting him. Fair and a win win for the dog.
MELISSA MANNING
Very nice staff. Prices seemed fairly affordable. Animals were clean, well fed and not super frantic in their large cages. I wish I could had the money to adopt at least three dogs but it was around Christmas so I just wanted to see what it was like there and was inspired to come back with money to adopt a dog.
Tenisha
The volunteers here are amazing. I got my first dog from a pet store but never again after I found out they supported puppy mills. I was able to get our new addition from here and they were so helpful and nice. If I get another dog it would be from here.
lil tallboy 1
I love animal control there all so nice but they take for ever to get here there was a cat bleeding and they took 3 hours I know they don't have a lot of officers but still they should start hiring people
Jenny T
CACC has the most caring and hardworking people in Animal care and rescue that I’ve ever met. Thank you for all that you do!
RECONCILIATION E. H.
CACC helps animals in need. Volunteers are great. Their programs are awesome. This place has the best adoption fee in the city for only $65¡
JASMINE “Jaz” SANTILLANES
I know this place gets a bad rap but my experience was enjoyable. I went in because I saw some cats on the page that looked like my missing cat. None of them were her but I met a beautiful all black puffy girl cat who I could not leave there. She was and still is the sweetest cat I have ever met. We love her very much.
Donna Moreland
Loved this place! Staff friendly, answered questions, and so kind. And can't beat free parking. We took a kitten we found in the backyard there, that was still nursing. Gave us the paperwork to keep up the status on her & to be able to adopt when she's ready if we want!
Nicole
I am forever grateful for uniting me with the most wonderful rescue Pit Bull, Benjamin!
Pat DeLacluyse
Adopted a 2 year old Bully Breed. Process was simple and straightforward. Volunteer Linda allowed me sufficient time to interact with the dog so I knew the fit was right. Regular staff was friendly and helpful and the dogs looked to be well cared for. Both of us couldn't be happier.
Joanna Estrella
We have been debating about adopting a pet and happen to pop in to check out the shelter. The volunteers there a WONDERFUL. Not only do they really care about helping with all the animals there but they want to make sure you are paired with the right pet. We ended up adopting a shy little cat, who has opened up and has been a great additional to our family. If you are thinking of adopting, stop by! The adoption fee is extremely reasonable.
Marie-Sharrane DeCarlo Anderson
This is a great shelter from which to adopt animals. The employees are kind. Be sure to have identification for anyone who is viewing animals eighteen & older. You'll have to sign in before seeing the animals. It is always a good idea to fill out an adoption form prior to visit and bring with you. This is just in case you find a pet that you'll want to take home. You can just add the animal's identification number to your application. Bring the identification card with you to the front so you can be interviewed and the reviewer can have the animal's information during that process. The fee is $65 which includes spayed/neutered, microchip not a GPS chip, and being vaccinated. You will need to register pet if you live in Chicago. That fee has to be paid to Chi Town. Best of luck!
Gina Sanderson
It's tough place to go but seems MUCH better run than it was before. I help rescue dogs so come here to pick up the dogs. Employees are super nice and genuinely seem to value the lives of the animals. Adopt. Don't shop!
Susan Ani
I go to this agency to pull cats and dogs for a local rescue nonprofit organization. I have found the lobby area to be very clean (not easy to maintain with all those animals), and the staff very professional and compassionate.
D Turner
This place is a catch 22. Dogs and cats die here. If you need to surrender your dog or cat try a rescue. If they aren't adopted or pulled from a rescue their put to sleep. They have wonderful volunteers and need more. The dog don't get walked everyday unless they have enough volunteers to do it. If you can adopt here great. It's also good to adopt at a no kill shelter so that they can pull other animals from CACC. Just know what this place is all about. They are not a vets office. They have to take an animal of surrendered. When space runs out. Their time is up. Adopt don't shop. Please volunteer or foster.
Jose Rosas
I'm a regular customer today they helped me to pay my parking ticket very helpful
Constance Smoot
Took my dog (puppy) there because I was at my wits end and this staff was helpful. I'm so grateful I went there because they helped us to stay together as a family
Mark Bernhard
My dog passed away and I stopped in to drop off all of her toys. Super nice friendly people doing a very needed job.
Karin Reichensperger
Quick and easy to pick up a cat for a rescue organization. The employees were nice and provided all the details on the animal being picked up. Still easy to deal with and always nice.
Brian Dressel
I went with my kids to get adopt a cat here awhile back. Walked out with two, as one of the volunteers said it would be sad to let them be apart as they were siblings. She had their best interests at heart. Best cats I've ever had and they were buddies until one passed on. Going back to get a dog soon.
Jaime Sotelo
I rescued my Major from this facility back in September. Best dog me and my wife could of chosen to save. It took him a while to trust us because he was so scared but we welcomed him with amazing arms and patience. The only reason I'm giving it a 4 star is because I tried adopting 2 times before hand and they kept refusing. The third time was the charm and even though majors paper work said no kids under 8 he's so loving and caring with my daughter that's 5yrs old. I know I cant never fully trust a dog around her and he's constantly under supervision by me or my wife major is always watching over her.
Rosalyn
Great! Supervisor Del Rio was able to explain everything to us and what to do regarding a spotting of a coyote in our residential area.
Jeff Lee
Nice walking in. Lots of poor animals there. Don't think it's very clean. They don't have a schedule to walk the dogs just volunteers whenever they get there. Treatment not sure. But adoption is way lower then any rescue shelter. So that was my buying point.
Erin Landwehr
I read all of the reviews on here before I went, and I expected it to be some horrible place with employ from hell. The lady in the front who checks you in was very nice, she looked like she had a long day but I was polite and greeted her and she was polite back, she told me where to go to see the dogs and the volunteer in that room was very Nice. I met 2 dogs both of which won my heart but I'm favoring the one who is a bit older, all the dogs looked to be in good health, however they were all very loud which is understandable because some have been there for quite a while and get anxious when people enter the room. They all wanted a bit of attention so I let all of them sniff my hand when I walked by their kennels which made them quiet down a bit. To anyone who reads these reviews and decides not to come here because of the bad ones, those people might not have been very nice or polite to the staff so in return, the staff was not pleasant back. After all, they work in a noisy place filled with animals all day long if I worked there I wouldn't want someone being rude to me, especially if they are there to adopt an animal that I have been caring for. Also this is an animal shelter, there were a ton of kennels (most of which had animals in them) and not very many volunteers when I visited, they have a lot to do when they are there. Just be patient and polite.
Gloria Medina
Today is nov 23rd. Veautiful six flags lights
Raven Campbell
The volunteers here are really uninformed. There shoud be more knowledgeable informed personnel working here. I support the mission and how they treat the animals. The desk personnel are inviting and very nice. The staff working in the pet rooms really serve no purpose but to open pet cages. I was coming to surrender a kitten and a woman jumped up from the bench insisting all the cats had diseases. She was a weirdo, aside from that; there are a lot of sweet large dogs here that deserve great homes.
Brenda Molina
There was an employee who wanted to tell me I was wrong recognizing my own dog on a post online and tried to tell me to go home because my dog wasn't there! I was going through so much looking for dogs that ran out that for her to just give up and not look through 1 more room left me feeling even worse at her lack of compassion. But I was straight up with her and told her not to try to tell me I'm wrong and that I don't know my own 10 year old dog with a bright yellow coat. I told another employee I crossed and she told her too "well check the last room why are you arguing it's one more room." We walked back and I instantly saw him with his little yellow coat. Besides that, it seems the people there care and haven't desensitized to all the sad and scared little animals that go through there.
BETH ANDERSON
This place is AMAZING! The entire staff that we encountered we're pleasant, kind, knowledgeable and passionate. The care and love that they give the animals in their care is refreshing. The adoption process went smoothly and our newest four legged family member is adjusting well. Thank you so much for everything you do!
Lisa Nolan
We adopted our baby girl a wolves game 3 years ago. She was very scared of everything and everyone but she warmed up into such a good girl. She loves her family, her large yard and brother's she's a sweetheart.
Mimi Renell
I adopted a chihuahua from cacc and the process was very smooth. Im so grateful for my little buddy because he is so sweet and well behaved. I lost my dog Max last year and was really grieving. But eventually we got Major (who had a different name) and he is a joy.
Lourdes (LaLulis17)
We stopped in right before Thanksgiving and they had an Adoption Event, several rooms filled with dogs available for adoption. The facility is well kept, staffed by lots of volunteers that walk the dogs. It can be a little intimidating to walk thru the rooms as the dogs loudly howl, growl and bark at you. Many of them (most of them I'd say) are pitbulls or of a mixed pit breed. They do allow you to do one-on-one meet with the dogs to see how the dog acts around you without the intimidating cage. We did NOT adopt, but it was very helpful to see the list of requirements, see the type and size of dogs available and just overall get a view of the place. I walked away not adopting, but with the feeling that I can contribute by volunteering one day.

The staff could have been more attentive and actually work with us to find the dog we wanted. FYI: They don't let you see the dogs or cats til noon. Seriously, they won't even let you sit down in the building til noon. They pretty much just have big dogs if you're looking to adopt. So if you like big dogs, definitely take them away from this place. The smell of the rooms where they keep the dogs is unbearable and all the dogs seem miserable there. We wanted a small dog, so we'll be looking elsewhere for a more humane shelter.
Angela Purnell-Singh
We wanted to adopt a companion for our older Male dog. We were allowed to bring him down, and he was introduced to a few female dogs. The staff was very patient and helped navigate the introductions. Our dog chose a wonderfully sweet little bully mix girl. I encourage everyone wanting to adopt a pet to go through this organization. It was the best decision to adopt through CACC.
michael flynn
I picked up a Golden Retriever mix today for As Good As Gold. The CACC people were real helpful and cared deeply for the dog I picked up. It was a very efficient process.
Follow-up - I fostered this dog for a month and adopted him yesterday. His name is now Newton. He is a real sweet boy who is getting more comfortable and confident by the day.

My cat has been missing & a friend noticed a CACC listing that somewhat matched my cat. I contacted CACC by e-mail & they very quickly confirmed that the look alike was not my missing fur baby. I appreciate knowing that the unhappy kitty in the cage is not the fellow I lost, although I certainly wish it was!!!
Thank you CACC for your quick resppnse!!!

I was really disappointed. I follow you guys on Facebook as well as your adoptable pets page. From viewing your posts, you claim you are at max capacity and beg people to adopt/donate. I’ve even donated when you were out of wet cat food for the cats. I brought my 2 kids and husband there today to hopefully adopt a cat as a family pet and was saddened to find that only 2 were up for adoption. They were a companion pair and had already had someone viewing them. When asking a person as to why there were not more cats, a woman said she would be right back to see if there were any more available. Sadly, there weren’t. I just feel sad that there are all these poor animals waiting to be adopted but how can they be when they aren’t being shown during view times? Although we didn’t find a fur baby to add to our family, I have to give credit to how cleanly everything was. We viewed the dogs up for adoption, just to see, and they all looked well taken care of and their cages were very clean.

This place is immaculate!
They take great care of the animals.
We adopted a dog, the staff could not have been more caring through the process. The fee is ridiculously low.
He is neutered, had all shots, heartworm treatment and he is chipped. They also made a name tag for him.
Please check this place out and give a cat or dog their forever home💙
Cherie Cordero
I have gone to this facility on 2 occasions.
10 years apart and for two very different reasons.
Each time I was impressed with the professional activities going on there.
This facility is making sure animals are treated with respect as well the people who care for animals!
Juanita Williams
Easy process. I did the application online. I went in and looked at the kittens and was given a date that I could come back and pick him up. On that date, I went back and picked up my kitten, I was in and out within 30 mins.
Noey D
My sister and I found a kitten in a parking lot. Cold and abandoned I thought it was dead. I picked it up and started towards home. We called everyone and everyplace we knew. We were advised to take the kitten to city anmial care and control. I would have given 5 stars but when I filled out the paper work I was asked if the kitten was a "Chicago" kitten. I was questioned about which parking lot he was found and was told he is a "Cicero" kitten. I found a kitten I didn't care to survey if he was found within city limits. He would have died. I'm Chicagian trying to save a kitten and thats all that needs to be known.
Let me add that everything afterwards went very well.
Jena Gardner
I want to express my immense gratitude to the FCACC team for their compassion and unwavering commitment to Chicago’s homeless pets and especially for connecting me with my sweet shadow, silly sidekick, and emotional support feline responsible for getting me through 2020- Lando! FCACC rescued Lando not once, but three times. First as a stray scooped up by the kind folks at animal control and then again after being returned by two separate adopters, due to no fault of his own. I am so very thankful to FCACC for their continued insistence on his safe retrieval and I firmly believe the stability and gentle care provided by their remarkable volunteers sheltered Lando from what could have been a series of very traumatizing events for any kitty. Thanks again, FCACC, for giving my best friend the second (and third!) chance he deserved and giving me the opportunity to be his forever home!
Vera N
This is a local animal shelter. I was there with my coworkers doing volunteering work. They have a LOT of animals and they do need a lot of help because of that. They accept help with food, blankets, cleaning supplies, money and most importantly with volunteers spending time with dogs, feeding them, walking etc. These dogs badly need people to help them to like humans again and feel loved. Stuff members doing their best, but need more people. They have a big play ground outside.
Carla Mas
They do an excellent job taking care of the dogs but you won't find anything but pitbulls.
The Volunteers ARE AMAZING!
Thank you guys.
I gave them 3 stars because "PARTNER Shelters" are making profit from CACC, they take the small and medium dogs and they give them for adoption on their locations but in the CACC you would pay only $65 and in their shelters the offer the dogs at $250-$350
I saw a lot of small dogs but they told me i couldn't adopted one of them because they were chosen to be TRANSFERRED to the partner shelters.
Heather Sintic
Great experience. I volunteer with Chicagoland Bully Breed Rescue. We put a hold on a stray dog and had a 10am appointment. 10 minutes in and out!
Aria Sullivan
Amazing staff, very caring. Not to mention you get a id number to check on any animal dropped off. But truly an amazing place and staff. Way better than animal welfare hands down.
Michael K
Lost dogs ,strays and just pups that need adoption. Great place to find your new best friend. People are great lots of help. Take time to show you and explain the process. Thanks for all you do
Mercedes Biddle
Had to take one of my cats there when he suddenly passed away. The people were kind & were concerned about my feelings. I've also gone to look at the animals in the adoption center & to help my son try to locate his lost cat. The people we talked to were nice & concerned about our issues.
Christopher Lorenzi
we got a puppy from there, she lasted 15 years and was a great dog. she passed away 2 weeks ago. we decided to donate all her leftover food and treats and beds.
Terry Tarter-Donato
Adopted the best dog ever! Inexpensive adoption fee. Junior came neutered, chipped, vaccinated and licensed. Great staff. Adoption questioner was not too intrusive but asked the right qiestions. Please consider them for adopting your next pet
Kristina Brown
Let's just say I do not recommend losing a pet during a pandemic. But if you do, save yourself the hassle and make an appointment online or phone or whatever. I didn't know to do this like so many others to see if your pet has been found here. Nevertheless they did what they could somewhat...
Craigory Holland
Every cat (and every dog) deserves a home. If you can take good care of an animal, please take one home from CACC. Or any other shelter. Adopt, and for the love God don't shop. There's a shelter pet waiting to meet you.
Jamel Gillespie
I was told that it would be a while before we bonded, and he would run and hide. Well Mr. Hubert came in a made himself at home. I picked him up a day ago.
❤❤❤❤
Don Tank
I love it, so many animals to choose from but we need more volunteers. I would but I work to much. I'm getting a dog from there soon. the systems they have in place, keep people in order and I love order. PLUS it's free adoption right now so go get an animal!
Stephanie Owens
I found my best friend at the CACC. Flex was a little 4 month old kitty sitting in the stainless steel cage, all scared and curled up. As soon as I picked him up, I knew he needed & deserved a good home, love, and protection. I got him for free that day, the CACC had an event where he was already nuetered & all that good stuff he was take home ready! I was astonished that I could adopt a precious baby kitten in good health for freeeeeeee!!!! We went home and bonded the next few days and he is the most funny, personable, dogcat I have ever met! He is one of a kind and I love him with my entire heart. I am SO extremely thankful that the CACC gave me a great opportunity to be a cat mom 💓🤩
Sunshine Davis-Ray
It's a shelter. If you want a pitbull, come here. They only adopted pitbulls or bully type breeds, because all the other dogs are for rescues to resell them at higher cost. That means those dogs sit longer on hold for a rescue to pull them. It is cruel to force those dog to wait (great for the rescue resale shops). It's another form of dog flipping. They split bonded pairs. They work well for the rescues. Beyond those facts, we need these places. Workers normally love their job and the animals there. I love how progressive shelter have become with yard time and videos of dogs that are available on FB.
Nita S
A pit-bull killed my poodle and the investigators here have gone above and beyond any expectations. We communicated back and forth for two years after the attack and they are still working to get the pit bull owner to comply with the guidelines to become a responsible dog owner.
grant zukowski
Amazing organization that helps animals
Jerome Davis
Wonderful customer experience beautiful staff willing to take out the time to explain everything to you and make sure that you happy and get you home with a nice loving pet
Irena Sromek
I adopted a dog that was here for over 100 days. They have long term dogs here who need a chance. He's turned into a pretty awesome dog who learned many tricks along the way. They were honest about his behavior traits, which we work on. If you have an opportunity to adopt, check out the long termers first.
Tab ord
Not much to see. 99% of the dogs are pitbulls. They are more likely to give the better breeds to rescue groups and friends of the shelter. Maybe 10 cats total. Hard to find anybody to help. Small parking lot. Not worth the trip
LadyDee Speaking Wisdom
I visited their website and what a wonderful opportunity they give you to find your perfect family pet to love and give a forever home all at one flat adoption fee for ALL pets. I can't wait to find my new addition to the family.
Sheronda Jackson
I adopted a 6 month old male pit bull mix breed puppy on 12/31/19. It has been a trying and rewarding experience, with all of the nipping, chewing and housebreaking; my Neeko is finally housebroken and is obeying simple commands.
OKema Lewis
I am praying that they are not bad people I had to leave my son;s dog there a week ago after trying to keep her for two years since his death. She has been through so much. An organization outside said they were going to try and find her a home, I am going back to day to visit and see if she is OK someone has been trying to adopt her and I pray nothing has happened to her. Praying for my LEXI ......
Jody M Santos
It was a little cold but they were very kind people
steve duran
Found our beloved cat. Take your time as you'll love every single one as you see them. They melt your heart instantly. Staff is awesome also very attentive and helpful.
Barbara Walker
A great place to get a pet from, please adopt, these animals deserve to be in a living home.
tinmakeup
I love volunteering here! The dogs are all so special and unique and it is really rewarding to help them find their way into loving forever homes.
Josh Seaney
Most animal control centers get a bad rap. This place worked so hard for us today for hours to help us find a dog that was a good match with our current dog. Thank you very much for your help.
Flor LaReina Munoz (#Heinequeen)
Got a new dog, had him 5 days before he escaped 😭 he spent a week in doggo jail, but he came back fixed and vaccinated. Overall a win …
Jeff Epperly
I found everyone one CACC to be caring and professional in spite of having what must be the most difficult jobs in animal care and control. I adopted a dog from there and he is now healthy, happy and is bouncing around like he was never abused at all after much love and assurance.
Monique
The staff was warm and friendly EXCEPT FOR THE SECURITY GUARD!! She needs a new attitude or a new job. She's very lucky i didnt have a phone to record her because the way she talks to people is unacceptable.
Anthony Bernal
The staff their work very hard to help you find your pet. If they have your animal they will reunite you with them and work with you to not have that happen again very professional they do good work.
anthony frank
We came there to rescue an animal and found our perfect dog, Shawna, last july. The staff was great and helpful in selecting what we were looking for. Getting another pit soon. A great place!!!
Keith Alexander
Five stars for the work being done there. My experience was dropping off a feral kitten that was roaming around. The processing of the intake kitten was fast and easy.
Maximus Squirehogg
I called Chicago Animal Care & Control today via 311 on a Sunday at noon. We had a babby bunny trapped in our patio pit. Certainly not an emergency in terms of society, but it was urgent for this bunny. I honestly did not expect them to respond. But only a few hours after a called, a very kind officer arrived and within minutes he gently captured and released the tiny bunny. In a huge city on a Sunday, I was very impressed with the 311 service and with the exceptional animal control officer. This truly is a city that works, and I am proud to call Chicago my home. Thank you!
Gail Longmire
Nice and friendly people very caring about a little animals they are truly a blessing
Jacky Pacheco
Email them for an appointment it just takes a few days to hear back from them but it was so worth it! So happy with our new member of the family❤
Ivana Brzoska Loza
People don't understand all the work that goes into rescuing these animals, maybe if you volunteer and see how much effort it takes. My husband has been an animal control officer for 16 yrs here and goes out everyday saves animals, picks up strays, gives citations, educates the public. CACC is not perfect no shelter is. But we are all trying to help the animals of Chicago. Thank you for the officers that go out every day into dangerous neighborhoods at times to help these animals from ignorant people.
Cassie Vail
Instead of CONSTANTLY complaining, many of you need to help these animals. They need volunteers more than anything and the volunteers are who help get these animals out of this high kill shelter and into a rescue or their forever home. Just did my first step to volunteer and I'm excited to help where its needed.
Karol Mcdonald
Thank u all for taking care of my Dakota.
tg 80 man
Its always hard parting with your pet who is family i had to give up my dog who i could no longer keep the staff made us feel safe in doing so they will try and find a home for her as long as she isnt aggressive. I was relieved in knowing that.
Geri Krawczyk
Had a hard time getting through for them to answer the phone but finally got to come in at 130 people were extremely friendly and kind like they cared thumbs up
Oshun Walk
Whatever reason we've decided to surrender our pets..the staff was great & they made you & your pet feel so welcomed..I've never seen my cat so relaxed to be around strangers..she was ill & i couldn't keep her with moving to new place im sure Kou will be adopted great family cat she chooses her families like she did with us..Amazed of how many ppl we're in there at evening time for adopting new pet members to families..Very clean facility.
debbie outlaw
Well if its good or bad the main thing is too get the animals out GET THEM OUT if you go there and you are looking, pick one and GET OUT. SO DO WHAT YOU CAN DO. P.S. I worked 2 years in a shelter( not this one) AND I KNOW WE CAN'T TAKE THEM ALL HOME so yea it is very hard work, and those who work with animals shelters. PSS if you SEE it RECORD IT WITH UR PHONE that will get rid of some very bad staff. thank you
Laura Zidek
They have the most wonderful and caring people working and volunteering their time here! I have gotten two amazing dogs from this facility over the last five years!
Juan lopez
Had to take my dog to get euthinized, the staff was understanding and after spending a lot of money at the vet, they only charge $10 fee for euthanizing!!!
Rene
We got our wonderful dog here. Staff was super friendly. The entire time we were there was great. Very happy with the dog too!
Delilah
The lady at the front desk was nice. Gave me the information i needed. But im still waiting to hear back for them on adopting a cat.

Jennie Ramirez
Not very friendly and helpful, I would’ve had to take it to them, but I don’t think they had any room anyway
jody benson
We got oue second Dog from Dogs are Deserving Rescue and they work closely with the CACC. If CACC was not around, many pets would suffer more and/or be left to die! Get a dog from here so many need rescuing and we love our dog from CACC!
Karina Moreno-Fowler
Very helpful. They found my dog that was missing for two years and someone was trying to pick her up and they called me ASAP. Glad to have my dog back.
Jesus Martinez
You can walk and play with the dog, low cost to adopt as well as neutered. Has all shots for a great beginning with man's best friend.
claudia hyzny
Great facility that takes in so many unwanted family pets. They offer reduced vaccines and other services. So many reputable rescues come daily to save lives.
Maya Germain
My cat is sooo adorable, she was over 6 months so she was free.
Bri
Susan is the real MVP. They need more resources though, Rahm. People who recklessly breed their cats and dogs fill this place and Susan fights extremely hard to prevent all of these animals from being euthenized while also trying to educate the public and provide reduced cost veterinary services in order to prevent capacity issues. They're good dogs, Rahm.
Anthony Hall
We went to have our trinty put to sleep because of a mass that can cause cancer and the lady there gave use a place that can help with the bill because the animal hospital said it would cost 2000 or more and we could not afford it and now its a wait we took here yesterday so now just 🙏 she will be ok. …
Louis N
Very friendly and accommodating.
Jose R. Morales
Had to take my friends dog there. They were kind and compassionate.
If you're looking for any pets come here.
Dionte Harris
If you can take the smell of the animal in the back. My wife went to adopt a dog.
Mother of Chihuahuas
They do the best that they can with the very limited resources that they have. The volunteers there are amazing and do everything that they are able to do to get these furbabies back home, adopted or rescued.
Vanessa Galeano
Great place, just make sure, during covid, to make an appointment and I think you have to be pre approved to adopt too.
Rose O'Hare
THe volunteers are amazing here and truly care about the dogs in their care. They do whatever they can to get them rescued. I truly respect and admire every volunteer at CACC.
Sharon Bjyrd
Lots of pit bulls being brought in and no real way to keep the animals apart. We had to wait our turn outside. Luckily it was a beautiful day.
Chico Che
😊 I love this place for my pets health and well-being very sincere people to trust them with your loved pets …
TD
Nice and well-kept place. Just not much of a variety of dogs and cats. Although I understand they may not have much control over the animals that come to them.
Teresa Nawrocki
Very nice facility. Knowing all of the staff is there to help sweet cats and dogs, they all are true angels❤
Kim Smith
I found no problems with this facility. Everyone was great. We love animals. And any that we can't help. We take them here. Great staff!!
Judy Johnsen
They do a lot of great work, many animals for adoption. They only offer a few cats at a time for adoption, so they don't get sick, from stress, from the frequent pages, dogs barking, etc.
Gina McKenzie

Aracely Hernandez (Chely)
Love my dog I got from them! He was an owner surrender and Im blessed he has some training. Im upset though that he has lice. :(
Chrystiana Jones
The only complaint I have was the rudeness of the security guard in front. Other than that, it is a place that has a good mission for animals that I support very much.
Rosie Jakubik
The volunteers here do try very hard to get all animals adopted.. If people would be more responsible and get there animal's spayed & neutered there would be no need for all this to take place.. Adopt & Rescue ..And be a volunteer.
Terry Daniels
Great place to find pets who will appreciate it if you take them home. Have been going there for over 40 years.
Nick Wolf
I found a stranded husky once and took him to this place. They were fast and caring and provided me with a follow-up number so I can get updates.

Cubbie Blue
I would recommend coming to ACC to adopt a bet over PAWAS or other no kill shelters. The sad truth is that ACC is a kill shelter so by adopting from them, you are truly saving a life!
