Great vets and great people! My rat had an ulcerated tumor that needed surgery, Dr. Sarah made sure to do it that day and treated my Rosie with love and respect. Rosie tore open her stitches the next day and Dr. Sarah came in on her day off to help. The vet tech texted me personally to check in on Rosie! These are wonderful vets who care about all animals no matter how small.

I have been taking both of my cats here for years, and I have always had nothing but great experiences. All of the vets always make sure to take the time to explain everything in detail and answer any questions that I may have which I really appreciate. All of the staff are incredibly kind and are all very gentle with my kitties. Also, I feel like it is all very affordable.

Took my dog here for a teeth cleaning and extraction per his regular Vets recommendation. Their prices for the cleaning started at $250 and up depending on extractions/extra dental procedures needed. I did call another place that did dental cleanings (their price was much higher) and they required you become a patient with them and pre procedure testing as where Good Shephard did not. Now it was offered at Good Shephard but my dog just had blood work 2 weeks prior at our regular Vets office. I was a bit confused as to his drop off as when you drive into the parking lot there are number parking spaces that state the lobby was closed and you needed to call upon arrival. I called the number listed and got a answering machine 3 times and then was put on hold for 10 minutes. I hung up and called a 5th time and was told I could just come in. There is sufficient parking spots which was nice. There were about 6 other dogs there when we went in and 2 "house" cats that were roaming around. When I made his appointment they were booking a few weeks out but really not a bad wait. His appointment was at 8am and I picked him up about 6 hours later. I had no idea he would have to be there that long if I hadn't of called to check on his progress. He did receive anesthesia in order to have his teeth worked on and he was given pain medication. If you will be waiting for your pet due to your home being far away, there are alot of places nearby to visit. Department stores, grocery stores and restaurants. Should we need further dental care we will return to Good Shephard Veterinary Hospital.

I would give this vet even more than 5 stars if I could. They have gone above and beyond to keep my 13-year-old baby as comfortable as possible with her arthritis. They treat her like a queen every time we drop her off for her laser therapy treatments. The vet tech has even brought the laser therapy machine outside if she’s not up for walking. If she can’t walk well, someone will carry her inside (and she’s 70 lb heavy) if she needs to be checked for anything. I can’t thank this vet hospital enough for the compassion, empathy, and kindness they’ve shown towards my dog and my family.

I have had a lot of bad experiences with vets in Kanawha county. Some of my worst experiences have been at Avalon and Valley West. A friend of mine suggested Good Sheppard and to be honest I wasn't hopeful, but my cat needed an updated rabies and some blood work done to rule out liver and kidney issues because his fur suddenly went from grey to brownish color. I was impressed. The wait was longer than expected but through them still having to not let humans inside and running back and forth that's to be expected, and it was a Friday too. They listened to me. And the vet even didn't have answers for the fur color change but took the time to do a bit of research as she could to maybe find out why and explained what information she came across. That's what impressed me the most. Most vets would have said how his blood work came back fine so no worries. I trust people not willing to always check the easy answer boxes and are willing to look deeper. I trust my cat is healthy and maybe it is one of the issues discussed for his sudden color change, but isn't harmful. I don't drive, but I'm willing to pay people to transport me here to avoid ever having to go to Valley West or Avalon ever again.

My Vet was a very thoughtful and awesome lady. I had to put down my cat that was in her upper teens. She belonged to my friend who past away, I took her after that. But the cat was so old and went blind. It was time for her to go, was having a hard time. It was the rt thing to do. My vet explained everything. My mind is in a fog when it came to her name. Tall lady with glasses. Very nice, because of her.. From here on out. My cats I had since they was babies will be seeing her soon. I will recommend ppl to go there, just like I was recommend on a fb post.

She and her whole staff are always professional and caring people for all of the fuzzy family I have had over the years. Dr Curry and Dr. Blanton are amazing too. Jody is a great groomer, and the entire staff are just super. I refer all my friends to Good Shepherd for amazing quality and loving care. I love how many times, Dr. Sarah gives my pets a kiss on the head as she completes her exam. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!!!

This was our first visit here with our new baby Dream. She was so sick, her brother passed away Saturday at the ER vet and she was showing the same signs. Sadly, she did not make it. The staff here is so amazing, and they seem like they actually care about not just the babies that are brought in, but their fur parents too.

There was an accident involving my rat, and she needed emergency surgery on a Saturday. I called several places, and I got the usual responses, "...a rat... really?" I'm glad I found Good Shepherd. They managed to get us in and perform the surgery on my rat. The staff was completely understanding, and absolutely wonderful. Our Daisy is alive because of the quick response and attentive care of the Good Shepherd staff.

We took my wife's guinea pig here, even though this is not our regular vet. They were completely booked, but still found time to squeeze us in, as it was an emergency. If it wasn't for Dr. Sarah, we wouldn't have known Cameron had cancer. She gave us all the time we needed to make our decision, explained everything she was doing to make the transition easier for him, and gave us plenty of time to gather ourselves before we took him home, even though it was after hours at that point. We're very thankful for Dr. Sarah and the entire staff for caring so much about little Cameron, even though he wasn't their regular patient.

I have two dogs, mainly made up of Australian Shepherd but they have lab in them too, both very spoiled and high maintenance.. however one is very high strung and has a lot of anxiety mixed with dog aggression Good Shepherd is the only place I have ever boarded them that didn’t make me feel like they were a burden. I felt at ease leaving them there mainly because it’s a vets office, so if the one got aggressive they would know how to handle it. Giving 4 stars because well they didn’t give me their toys back but that’s also my fault bc I didn’t check their bag, and two because they got kennel cough which I understand ISN’T their fault it happens I get it, however it wasn’t until they started coughing four days into staying that they called me and asked permission to admit meds did they tell me they had “string of the virus run through the kennel recently” I feel like that should be something that is told up front, but it’s a lesson for me to start asking the question. Great place I love them, very kind staff, very clean building, waiting room is pretty homey to be a vets office, likes them so much I’ve considered switching vets.

I have taken my kitties to Good Shepherd for almost 15 years now and would not take them anywhere else. I was referred by a friend when the place I had been going could not diagnose my kitty after several visits over several weeks. After one visit with Dr. Stephenson my baby was diagnosed and a day later she was out of surgery and on her way to recovery. Every time I have been to Good Shepherd the staff has been caring and the doctors knowledgeable and willing to go above and beyond, always putting my kitty's best interests first.

Dr. Blanton was great with my fur baby Pixie. She called me several times with very detailed updates, took the time to actually talk to us, explain everything to us. Unfortunately the time came I had to put my baby down, I couldn’t let her suffer any longer. Dr. Blanton did everything she could to save her. I did see some reviews about the prices here but, honestly from everything they did for my baby I don’t think it was overpriced in the least. I appreciate the kindness and compassion from her and the staff during this extremely difficult time. I would recommend Dr. Blanton to all my friends and family. My puppy got parvo and I thought I was going to lose my baby. The vets here not only took excellent care of my puppy (she was back to normal and back home in less than a day) but also took care of her wreck of a mother (me). You can tell they love what they do and love your pets like their own.

Brought my hedgehog here as an emergency, he was deathly sick and they are the only office I could find that took hedgehogs. They were able to help me with the financial side of things and let me pay most of it, with the promise I paid them the rest payday. Even though I couldnt afford the whole thing, she made sure he got treated regardless! I thank these people from the bottom of my heart! UPDATE Went and the ferrit almost died from a distemper shot but raced him back and they did help him didn't charge me and were great! I have taken my animals to Good Shepherd Veterinary Hospital for the last 10 years. The compassion that not only myself but my animals have been shown is outstanding. I have never worried once about leaving my animal in their care. I understand many of these reviews are from people who have never actually been to the vet but are spouting off hatred based upon one very unfortunate situation. Please do not let the hatred ruin the reputation of a truly awesome group of people who work hard day in and day out to provide the best care for your animals. Anytime I have had questions someone has been there to answer them and give me all the info I need. Having Dr. Stephenson hug me with tears in her eyes after having to put my 15 year old dog to sleep....that does not display a cold heartless doctor like people are suggesting. There are always two sides to every story, please remember that.

The staff and the doctors when out of there way for my dog and I: not having patients at the time of my appointment,allowing me to take my time and say goodbye, and talking me threw everything. I have taken Peppy to Dr. Sarah since she opened her clinic in Kanawha City. Peppy has also seen Dr. Paul. They are the very best, caring people. The entire staff knew and treated Peppy like he was their own dog. Clint and Lori have also kept Peppy when we went out of town. (He didn't like to stay in a kennel) He just passed away at age 15. I LOVE this vet hospital! Dr. Sarah really knows her stuff, and the staff is fantastic. I was recommended by a friend, and wondered why she would drive from Nitro to Kanawha City to have her pet seen here, and now I know. When I first visited with Dr. Sarah before I even asked her any questions she quickly pin-pointed everything I had on my mind concerning Leia (my cute BT mix) and was very patient in answering questions. On the second time I visited, Leia was fixed, and amazingly had her cherry eye tacked down in one try. The prices may be a little pricey, but I found them to be very reasonable, especially for the work on Leia's cherry eye-- I thought I would be spending a lot more and ended up paying only a fraction of that. I love this vet office and I only hope I can find one this great whenever I move out-of-state. :)

With isolation and social distancing they still were prompt and has systems in place to assure quality care was given. They called when they needed information, brought the paperwork to the car and that was it. Very simple and effective.

All I want to say is WOW! Dr. Sarah and Dr. Blanton both have save 2 of our dogs’ lives... first off, back in 2015, our Yorkie mix Klyde had gotten hit by the mailman and got a terrible diaphragmatic hernia. Dr. Blanton and Dr. Sarah both worked for HOURS to save klydes life. Here we are going on 3 years later and Klyde is as healthy and happy as can be! Today, 1/17/18 our Mini Schnauzer Wynston had a bunch of crud built up in his urethra and it was completely blocked. Dr. Stephenson saved his life. She went in and flushed out his bladder, removed all the bladder stones and took great care of him. The knowledge and expertise of this practice is amazing. I highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone. Whether it be just a check up or the dreaded emergency surgeries we’ve had on both of our dogs, I trust them with everything. They really make you feel like family. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!
