We feel so fortunate that we found Ark Vet. As first time dog owners, we have a lot of questions. Whenever we call Ark up, we are greeted with compassion and knowledge. There's been many times when our pup has an issue and our questions or concerns are answered over the phone without needing a visit. When we do visit, every single person is incredibly friendly and even with a scared dog, she still enjoys seeing everyone. I highly recommend Ark to anyone, especially first time dog owners, and I will continue to bring my dog and any future pet here.

I’ve only had wonderful experiences here. I moved to town with a puppy, was referred and have been extremely happy. I always feel 100% safe with everyone there. After a few visits my dog was neutered and I was extremely nervous after past experiences but the vet called after with a very personal and thorough report and he healed beautifully. They saw us through an episode when looked like Otto was out for the count, but rallied at the last, treating his thyroid. Ark Veterinary Hospital has been a terrific veterinary home for our pets - dogs and cats alike. The staff has gone above and beyond to meet their needs, from parking lot visits to unexpected acute care needs to answering questions over the phone. The support staff is mostly knowledgeable and willing to help and the veterinarians are great and hard working. Nicole is incredible at her job and seems to keep the place running smoothly! We have worked mainly with Drs. Kellner and Koenitzer over the years through many surgeries, injuries and healthy visits too.

We have 3 dogs of different sizes, ages, & temperaments. We have brought them in for a variety of visits from annual check ups to teeth cleaning and other significant care. One dog does not like vets or other new people, so she is very challenging, but the Ark Vet staff are very responsive with us to work with her. She has had great care from Ark.

I just recently took my two young berners to establish care at Ark and I was instantly relieved in the decision to switch vet offices. Everyone I spoke to was so nice and I was able to get an appointment within a week for both dogs (at the same time, as new patients)! I had been having issues at my previous vet when buying the dogs’ prescriptions through Chewy (previous vet made it difficult to purchase these elsewhere) and Ark assured me that they work directly with Chewy so none of those issues would carry over. They even gave me a free months supply of the dogs’ prescriptions to ensure a seamless transition. I usually leave the vet feeling a little defeated but I did not have that at Ark and I’m truly so grateful for their amazing service to my pups and me!

We have used Ark veterinary Hospital for the last 25 years. The care has always been kind, knowledgeable and compassionate. Dylan was seen there earlier this week for routine check up and vaccines. Since we are not able to be with him during the exam due to COVID restrictions it was very helpful to hear from them and read the detailed report. I have nothing but good things to say about Ark. They are some of the kindest and most supportive vets and staff I have had the pleasure of meeting. They are always not only patient with my pups but happy to see them and even remember them even though trey have hundreds of other patients! Dr. Solow has since retired and now we see Dr. Kellner, who is incredible! He recently operated on my dog and has been nothing short of amazing during the whole experience. I moved to VT last year during the pandemic, so I have never actually been inside the office, but I'm grateful to have found The Ark. Not long after I moved here, one of my dogs got very sick and died within weeks of a horrible, fast-growing cancer. The vets at The Ark were really wonderful during this situation. They spent a lot of time on the phone with me, explaining his illness and answering all my questions; they were compassionate and kind; and they did everything they could to help my dog and make him more comfortable. I couldn't have asked for more from them during this very difficult time. I've since brought my other pets to The Ark for routine care as well as illnesses and injuries, and have been very happy with the care they received as well as the professionalism of the vets and support staff.

We were traveling out of state in VT, and our dog had a badly lacerated foot which needed periodic care. We feel very fortunate to have discovered Ark Veterinary in Shelburne. From our first call to their clinic, their staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, and made being a new patient easy. The veterinarian was caring, down to earth and straight talking. Their costs were reasonable and no one did any up-selling. In fact, during a follow-up visit we were only charged a few dollars for bandaging, no doctor fee! The tech’s at Ark were cheerful and genuinely happy to care for our dog. They are handling COVID protocols with grace and efficiency. What a blessing to know that, when we return to VT, our dog has a home-away-from-home at Ark.

I do not have enough kind words to say about Ark. When our sweet kitten became extremely ill over the holidays, we were in a bind because our regular vet didn't have space. Ark immediately squeezed him into their busy schedule and cared diligently for him and us as if we were their own patients. When he sadly passed away from FIP, they sent us flowers. We immediately came to them when we adopted our puppy Honey a few months later. Every part of the staff exudes kindness, warmth, and extensive knowledge about the health and wellbeing of animals. We've since moved back to NYC, but love them so much that we want to time our visits back to Vermont to coincide with Honey's yearly check up hahaha. I have been with this practice for a long time (I believe I am patient #26), and I have stayed this long because of the consistently high quality and extremely kind veterinary care my pets (and I) have received. Unlike many vet clinics, everyone at the office likes people as well as pets. They will recommend preventative testing on a certain schedule, but no one judges if you choose to skip some of it. As my pets have aged or gotten sick, Dr. Bill Kellner has always given kind and practical advice. He has never suggested crazy cancer treatment that wouldn't work but has suggested it if he thought it made sense. I've always been told the odds and the impact on my pet's quality of life, and no one makes you feel badly for talking about costs. Once, when Bill suspected cancer, he insisted on a test to confirm rather than simply treating, because he wasn't sure enough of the results based on the X-ray. We did a stomach biopsy, and my cat had an extreme form of ulcers. She was medicated and lived 8 more years--to age 18! I mention this because the testing proved to be absolutely necessary. My cat was treated, her life improved, and she lived a long time. People complain about costs for all vets, but I've found that they make practical decisions at Ark. In that case, yes, we paid for an X-ray and a biopsy--but the X-ray might have ruled it out and was the less expensive and less invasive option, so it was the right place to start. I have dogs and cats and they love both. We have seen the younger vets now, Dr. Sarah Smets and Dr. Andrew Koenitzer, and both are kind and thorough.

I'm very thankful for the quick acceptance of my baby Harpoon. She had an ear infection for 3 days I tried over counter didn't realize it was so bad. When we called 4 places they all said over a week wait then I called ARK They had us in first thing next morning and she's doing 70% better now. Ty you all so much. After several disappointing visits to other vets, we asked a neighbor where she took her dog. Without any hesitation, she answered The Ark veterinary hospital in Shelburne. Travelling the few extra miles (we live in Burlington) was well worth it! Drs. Kellnor and Sole as well as the rest of the staff were great with our dog. They all took the time to allow our dog to feel comfortable with them and earned lots of love from the healthful doggie treats they gave her. They took the time to listen to my concerns and answer any questions I have, petwise. They send postcards with reminders for when to set up appts. and which shots she'll be receiving. For the first time in the 7 years that we have had our rescue dog, Mike, he has not had blleeding gums and terrible breath after the latest issue of severe pain in mouth. 6 years ago Dr. Kellener said antibiotics would not help, but Nicole solved the problem with a round of antibiotics. Thank you. As you know, he can not have anesthesia due to heart problems.

Modern Nature

The folks at Ark have taken care of Mika since birth (9+ years) and JoJo since we adopted (4+ years). Every step of the way they have been there providing best quality healthcare and in the few (whew!) times we had immediate needs. Our girls love going into the office and the ladies out front know them by name. I can't imagine a better resource for my dogs and believe me, I'd never settle for less for my girls! 🐶🐕

Dr. Bill Kellner and all of the staff at Ark are amazing. There are not enough superlatives to describe this practice - by far the best veterinary clinic in Chittenden County and beyond. Eight years ago a close friend recommended Dr. Kellner. At the time, my then two-year-old dog had begun experiencing severe orthopedic issues. These issues were misdiagnosed/incompletely addressed by other local clinics, with less than ideal outcomes. As soon as he began seeing Bill and was properly diagnosed/provided a treatment plan that was effective, the improvement in his mobility and comfort was remarkable. I attribute my now nearly eleven-year-old, large mixed breed dog's life to the care and treatment he has received at Ark. Whether you are just looking for an excellent vet with a lovely, top-notch facility for routine care or if you're like me and have a companion animal with a condition (or host of them) that requires a knowledgeable, experienced vet who works tirelessly to try to find the very best outcome possible, who will genuinely treat your animal with the compassion and care he would give to his own, then it's the place to go. All of my animals go to Ark. I wouldn't take them anywhere else. As an aside: my friend who recommended Ark moved out of state. He lamented he can't find the same quality of care in his new stomping grounds that he took for granted here. He scheduled a routine care exam with Dr. Kellner during his vacation, driving four hours just to take his pup to Ark. Mind you there was nothing pressing, he just wanted to be satisfied she would receive a proper semi-annual physical exam while she got her shots. If that's not a testament, I don't know what is.

Sadly, the 'generic' medicine needed was priced at 2 x the cost of the same medicine at Wallmart ($60 vs $28) . Treatment: CBC comp Internal Profile $160 + Radiograph Sedation $90 + Radiographic Study Extremity $176 + Prob Oriented Exam $65 = $533. Treatment has been efficaciousfor our dog. In the future I will ask estimated costs and I will inquire at other veterinary practices.
