My pet needed urgent care and my primary vet recommended Upstate Vet. You were able to see my furbaby within one business day! The staff (in person and over the phone) have been absolutely delightful. Upstate Vet is easy to find, has adequate parking and a very short wait time after arrival and for pick up. The doctor was prompt in calling me about my pet's well-being. She fully explained the procedure and answered all my questions with patience and kindness. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience during a stressful time!

They saw Shelby the same day that he was referred. He received a blood transfusion quickly, was monitored overnight and sent home with necessary medications to get him through his illness. His vet was thorough, explained everything very well in a way that I could understand, and were as concerned about him as his family was. I'm very grateful for everything they've done for him and I know that no matter what his prognosis looks like moving forward, they will be available to assist however they can. As someone who has lost a pet to sudden illness before, knowing that is incredibly comforting. I'm glad that Shelby's primary vet referred him to this practice. They were compassionate, concerned, present and communicative during a stressful time for Shelby and me.

The only thing I don't like, is not having a waiting are outside of the curbside service. I 100% understand why, it's just a little inconvenient. BUT! The staff and the service are fantastic! Everyone was patient and understanding, and treated me and my dog, Nova, like family. The techs and the docs explained everything that was going on and really helped me feel at ease about everything. 10/10 will recommend them to everyone! Communicated everything. The text option is awesome!

Dr. Blankenship did an amazing job handling one of the hardest experiences of our lives: our dog being diagnosed with cancer. She was realistic and helpful, and she made us feel like we were her only priority (even though I'm sure she was busy with a million other things). The whole staff, including techs from multiple departments and front desk staff, were all super kind and considerate during an extremely hard time for us. Our baby lost his battle today, but they did everything they could to make his life as comfortable as possible. Thank you all ❤️

The doctors and staff here are so very kind! You can tell they truly care about making sure your pet is being taken care of, which is the most important to us. We spoke a lot with Anna during our visit and she was very friendly & personable and showed so much love and compassion for our dog. I've only had one experience, which was a consult, so I don't know what the pet treatment is like and can't say if recommend based on my experience. More than likely, it's awesome, because I had a really good experience today. I would recommend for specialty treatment based on the fact that this practice was recommended from my veterinarian, whom I really like (Evergreen Vet Hospital). Also, the consultation was excellent and fair - and what I mean by that was the veterinarian took the info provided, assessed my cat, and had a talk with me about options. That was excellent. On the fairness side (in a good way!) - not all the things I wanted to hear (i.e., my cats eye surgery may not fix his tears and might not be worth going through surgery - though not a bad thing, kitty is comfortable and it's not going to cost $$$) and a lot to consider, but I really appreciate her honesty and recognizing what's best for my pet versus an answer that favors my hopes to solve a problem that's apparently not really a problem.

Very organized, staff very helpful, wonderful service. The over all price was a shock, but felt she would receive excellent care. Loved Dr Christ, he was so helpful in explaining everything including bringing a model so you could visually see what he was talking about. He also was able to check and get the ultrasound done that day so I did not have to drive back as I was coming from TN. Called and received a copy of the ultrasound right away.

The doctors are really nice and they did a great job doing surgery on my dog. It was insanely expensive but he's worth it. If your animal is getting older and has some real problems, take them here and feel at ease. I was soooo worried all day but they gave me my boy back, new and improved. If I could give 10 stars, I would. The entire staff is not only efficient, they are knowledgeable and compassionate. They have taken such amazing care of my sweet cat during her chemo treatments. Dr. George takes time out of her busy day to call and update me on progress and next steps, and the vet techs are always friendly and shower my girl with attention. They never act too busy to answer or ask questions to gather needed information. My cat Giselle is family, and they treat her as such. Highly recommend! ❤️

After many years and thousands of dollars at our primary vet, we were finally referred to an internist at upstate vet. After a few tests Dr. Brunson had accurately diagnosed my 11 year old dog with atypical Addison's decease. He prescribed meds and within a month I had a different dog. He is happier, more energetic, moving like he’s a few years younger, healthier weight and he stopped shedding! He shed his whole life, like a lot, a lot. I wish i was referred to upstate vet 4 years ago when we first started running tests. So thankful for the team!

Also, I was impressed with the surgeon taking the time to understand Honey as an individual. The staff and Veterinarian were extremely interested in the health of my dog, Beatle Juice. Never have I visited a Vet clinic that extended the courtesies of this entire staff. The Vet tech came out to my vehicle soon after I notified the clinic that I had arrived (text from parking spot). She first walked me through what the Vet planned to do with my dog prior to his entry, which made the process flow very efficiently. Every Vet (and doctor for that matter) would have dragged this process out for several visits. Not Upstate! The Vet did the consult, blood work, ultrasound, and aspiration of my dog's liver in ONE VISIT?! Who does this anymore? That saved me time, and absolutely saved me money. Doctors alway have a consult, then send you for blood work, then go back to get another consult with perhaps further testing, then if anything found, further testing, etc. I love this veterinarian staff. I left at 1:00 PM on a Friday, and the Vet called me at 6:00 PM with the cytology results to inform me my dog does not have cancer. What doctor does that? I'm lucky to get a call a month after my test from a human doctor. I wish this staff cared for humans, too. But I am totally happy my dog gets to benefit from them. Cared for my dog and informed me of what they thought was going in with my dog's health. The vet tech also trimmed his nails, she took such great care of him!

We came up from Florida to our place in North Carolina in a rush, to avoid Hurricane Ian. Cooper, my 17 year old chihuahua has been recently diagnosed with glaucoma and needed to have his eye pressures checked. Dr Blankenship and her team worked us in right away. Dr. Blankenship even went as far as to contact Cooper's ophthalmologist in Florida with her exam results. We are confident that Cooper is in great hands. Thank you, Upstate Vet.

Ours was a sad time since my cousin's kitty was very ill. We were treated with compassion and understanding. We were a little early for the appointment and the signs indicated we should park in a numbered space and call in. We waited for a little while and sick baby was taken inside. After an initial exam, a veterinarian came out to the car to update us. Since the kitty needed fluids and an ultrasound, we were sent home and updated by phone. Everyone was wonderful.

Upstate is a large specialty vet which you don’t go to unless your pet has a significant problem and is referred to by your regular vet. They’re quite expensive, but very good and the doctor we worked with is exceptionally caring. Our follow up visit was free which was a pleasant surprise.

This place is tops. Our dog was well cared for and the doctor and vet techs were loving and knowledgeable and really put our skittish dog, and US, at ease. While their price seemed to be right in the range of what I expected and I did have a positive experience with the doctor that performed my surgery, there are some customer service issues that have left me with some distrust. My doctor seemed very responsive in the beginning and squeezed me in for an unscheduled follow up visit and the techs overall seemed very invested in my pup's health and recovery. However, when my pup got a low grade incision infection I had to pay for the antibiotic. I was expressly told that all medications would be covered- there was no mention of additional charges if more meds were needed. There were 3x I called to speak with the doctor or a tech for questions about her recovery, and only one of those phone calls was returned. Additionally, I have yet to speak to the actual doctor since the day of her surgery, even though I have clearly requested this over the phone, in voicemail and also in person at her follow up visits. As my time rolls on in this long healing process, I do feel as though there is a level of frustration I am being met with from the techs for asking more involved questions about long term bone health and joint support. I was told to simply return to the hospital if there is an issue five years from now. It is as if my thoroughness is an inconvenience to the professionals at times. The hospital does seem very, very busy. And that is not an excuse for missing phone calls or the doctor not taking 5 minutes to return a phone call- nor do I feel that I am asking for more than what the doctor told me expect before I cut the check. Perhaps COVID precautions have played a role in the patients not getting any face to face time with the doctor, and again that is something that can be fixed easily. And I would encourage all the techs to really practice empathy when dealing with clients- perhaps to do some training around active listening and empathy skills. I would also recommend telling the clients to expect additional costs for medication if more is needed, prior to the surgery scheduling. I hope this feedback is helpful to both the hospital and future patients.

I would like to say that the vets I have encountered at this practice are absolutely wonderful and have served my many many pets very well. I must say though as I see the owner reads these reviews. I brought a pet in a few weeks ago and the girl that came out to get my pet from the car was one of the rudest people I have ever encountered. I was on the phone with my realtor at the time as I am buying and selling. After the blue haired girl had taken my pet my realtor said “my god who was that ? She was so rude”. She was so rude in her attitude and words that it was almost funny. Please young lady you don’t know what people have going on in their lives. You should never be rude but particularly when you are representing a wonderful establishment like this.

My poor "Gage" suffered a broken leg and was referred from another Emergency hospital to Upstate Vet who was able to see him the very next day (after he had been splinted and given pain meds) and was able to get him scheduled for surgery the very next day (2 days post injury). My experience with Upstate Vet has been great. I was referred to them by my regular vet. First, they were able to do a foreign body removal with an endoscopy and we avoided surgery. Second, the veterinary dentist did a few extractions. All of the vets I have talked to have been professional and helpful with answering all of my questions. Although they are expensive because they are specialists and have equipment that other vets in town do not, I would still recommend them. The quality of care has been wonderful.

This is a true animal HOSPITAL! We reluctantly decided to have a section of our cat's lung removed. We were reluctant because we thought he would suffer too much and might be better off being put to sleep. We were wrong! The surgery went well, but the after care was amazing. In the end, he hardly suffered at all due to the judicious use of various post-op medications and the stout way in which his wounds were closed. We thought we were smart, educated pet owners. However, the services provided by UV and the quality of their staff were eye-opening. DO NOT make a decision to euthanize without speaking to UV. In my opinion, Upstate Vets is a far better choice in the TN/NC/SC area than the University of Tennessee veterinary department. It is no more expensive, either.

Our dog managed to break his femur while playing in our back yard. Of course it was a Saturday and we had to visit an emergency clinic, but UVS got us in Monday morning for Dr. Krebs to schedule the surgery. Our elderly Teacup Chihuahua, Moochie, had a cough and then suddenly began having issues urinating. A trip to our vet revealed that she had a hernia that was trapping her bladder so that she couldn't go. We were referred to Upstate Vets by our vet, who highly recommended them. Everyone that we met at the office was so friendly and concerned for our little girl. Dr Krebs was extremely knowledgeable and explained everything to us, from what was wrong with Moochie to exactly how he was going to fix it and how to care for her once she was home. Watching him interact with our dog, it is obvious that Dr. Krebs cares deeply about the animals that he treats. Dr Krebs called himself to update us once the surgery was over and we got a second update when Moochie was completely recovered from the anesthesia and again the next morning. She is recovering wonderfully and I couldn't have asked for a better team to take care of her. But the most telling thing in my opinion, was Moochie's demeanor when we picked her up to bring her home. She was happy to see us, but was also very calm and content with the staff, so I know that she was treated very well the whole time that she was there. I highly recommend this vet to anyone and everyone, they are very knowledgeable and experienced, as well as compassionate and caring to the animals that they treat. Your fur babies are in good hands with this team!

Our dog suddenly developed a very large tumor seemingly over night -- think half a lime size right under the skin on her right hip. We thought it was a snake or spider bite. Naturally, we took her to our regular vet, who, upon inspection believed it was a tumor. We had a biopsy performed that showed a very low grade cancer. Due to the large size, out vet recommended Upstate Veterinary Specialists as our vet determined that the large size would require reconstructive surgery (skin graft) a specialist should perform. So, off to Upstate. They determined we should try to reduce the tumor, first with steroids. One week later, the tumor was size was halved. Alas, still too large to avoid some level of reconstruction, they called the "skin flap" method. That would involve a series of incisions to pull/tug skin to cover the tumor area. So, they then recommended a single dose of chemo, injected right into the tumor. We were told that chemo in dogs was much less disruptive to a canine's systems than in humans. Except for drinking copious amounts of water, neither the steroids or chemo had any side effects. The chemo reduced the size of the tumor small enough to avoid need for any reconstruction. We brought her in the morning, and, picked her up the next day. The removed tumor and margin area were sent to the lab to ensure all the cancer cells were removed -- result confirmed success. All in all, the surgery recovery went without any hitches. The 8" incision healed over quickly, and, a week later no more head cone. We were able to restart incision after 10 days. From start to finish, the staff, medical technicians and doctors were professional, courteous, and straight forward. The final invoice was a little less than the original estimate. We highly recommend Upstate.
