Reviews of Maricopa County Animal Care and Control

My wife and I came in on August 21st, 2022, specifically to meet a cat named "Bomber." Even though it was very busy when we arrived (maybe around 12PM, not long after they opened) every staff member we spoke with or encountered was very helpful and friendly! We had already researched Bomber on the county website and he seemed like the perfect fit for us, so after a short wait, we were taken back to meet him. Bomber was the sweetest kitty, so we said we would take him right away. Roughly an hour later we were heading home with our new best buddy! The adoption process from beginning to end was smooth and quick, especially considering how busy the shelter was that day. I think the entire trip was around an hour and a half total.
We absolutely adore Bomber! He's the gentlest, most loving old man. He gets along great with our dogs, and he just seems to genuinely enjoy being around us. I work nights, so he spends his nights laying on the sofa in my office and keeping me company (and sometimes distracting me with his cute snores!)
I just wanted to say 'thank you' to the Maricopa County Shelter for helping us find our new best friend! We will definitely recommend the shelter to any friends or family looking for a new loved one to adopt.

UPDATE as of end of August!!! SUPER adoption price! "Until further notice, adoption fees are ONLY $25 for all animals older than five months, and ONLY $150 for puppies and kittens five months and younger!" AMAZING animals and staff! Both of the shelters are at critical capacity and desperately need your help to empty the shelters. If you have been thinking about getting a pet, please check out the West and the East Maricopa county animal shelters. This includes all of the kitty cat cuties as well! They are (or will be) microchipped, spayed or neutered, and all vaccinated for FREE! It is all covered in the super low adoption fee for those sweethearts ONLY $25 for most of them for you to take them home to cuddle or play with them. They also have a few goodies to give you to help you get started with your new furry friend in their new home with YOU! Please come check them out! They have super convenient hours to work around your schedule! So come make a new friend AND save a life! ❤️

We adopted Kayla baby today. 8/22/22. She is such a good little love! She had never been around any other animals before, when we introduced her to ours she was so good! She is great with my dogs and cats. We absolutely love her to pieces! The staff and volunteers were very lovely. So nice and sweet. Helped us with everything. Gave us time to really think about our decision. They were very truthful about everything. Told us about her past. How high energy she is, how many times she was brought back, her struggles and her good times. So glad they were so truthful and we were able to know exactly what we were getting into. We renamed Kayla to Kiki. We love her dearly! Thank you Maricopa county animal shelter!!

Proud to say 3 out of my 5 dogs have been adopted from MCACC. 2 german shepherds, and 1 black lab. I love them dearly and they complete our family.
Having 3 adopting experiences gives me good a view and insight on the process/ staff.
Nothing but good things to say about the adopting staff, meet and greet staff, and clinic staff.
However I do think recently there staff has become over worked and they need more vets/ staff and volunteers.
Our last dog we adopted in July came home with 9+ ticks. Which seems hard to miss that many ticks when doing her spay surgery…
Other than my opinion on them needing more staff I have no complaints. Definitely suggest adopting from the shelter.
Look online before you go, it’s nice to read there notes. It’s also nice to walk around the whole facility because one might catch your eye that you wouldn’t have considered just by a picture. These animals all deserve a loving second chance.

I adoptes Sam today from this Shelter. She's a great dog, and I'm super happy to have her around. The staff at the facility are very kind, and I feel they really care about their animals. Service could be a little faster, but no one is perfect. Thanks for such a great dog.
Sarah Picciuolo
Absolutely amazing experience adopting my dog. The workers are so efficient, helpful, and organized. Best adoption process ever. I am very happy with my new best friend and I only had to pay $25! This low adoption fee left me with more money to spoil the cutie with all the best toys, treats, dog bed, fancy harness, collar, leash, and filtered water bowl. 🥰 I am so happy. He is obsessed with his crinkly fox toy and I really feel like I hit the lottery with this dog!!! He doesn't even bark! He's such a sweetie.

Excellent facility, staff, professionalism and service! Thank you for an amazing family 🐕 during your free event in December and taking such good care of the animals awaiting adoption! We were even blessed with a free collar, leash, microchip and starter bag of food! A very organized, wonderful facility! …

This is one of the cleanest city run shelters I've been in.The volunteers are great and the most important thing is a good fit for you and the rescued pet.The entire staff we dealt with were friendly and helpful the entire time we were there. We rescued and Qmerican bull dog that was on the Orange E-list meaning he was pulled at the last minute saving his live.My only concern is that it's not a no kill shelter so get down there and adopt your new forever pet before it's to late to save them.

I just recently adopted a dog that was on the euthanized list. The handler was very informative and friendly when I had my meet and greet. I was told by staff that the dog has been in his kennel for ten days. I can just imagine how many other dogs have been stuck in there kennels and not let out. The facility is nice and clean. So many dogs need to be saved from the euthanize list so I definitely would recommend and encourage to go and save a pet
Mary Lou Thurston
We found a new dog for our family. She is such a good dog. I'm glad I was able to save her. The profile on her wasn't very good...bite risk, doesn't walk on a leash. None of it true!
Andrew D
Great staff and awesome dogs. Ours is just getting fixed and shots. We're picking her up next week. So excited!
There was no real wait and they had tons of beautiful dogs just waiting for a good home. Dogs>people!
Anna C (Besitos)
My daughter and I went to see if there was dog that we could adopt. When we got there, their was a nice lady who was trying to explain to us that their electricity had gone out back where the kennels were located, and they couldn't allow any one in at that moment. I asked her if there was a direct number to the front desk , she was very nice and was writing down the number, when this other lady came out all aggressive yelling and telling everyone who was in the lobby that they were closing down and everyone had to get out, she started shooing every out very aggressively she didn't even allow me to finish my conversation with the nice lady who was trying to write the number for me. I would go back just because we are still interested in adopting. But dang the employee attitude was not Nice AT ALL. Poor animals probably don't get a chance to be adopted with staff like that barking louder then the dogs and scaring people off with that attitude.. sheesh
Natasha Lopez
We have been cat fosters for Maricopa for years. Although we don't like the recent change in them only taking dogs, we have to say that everyone we've come across, employee or volunteer, has been terrific. They all show a dedication to caring for animals and they often go above and beyond to get the animals the help they need. We are very fortunate to be part of the Maricopa family.
Amanda Wagner
Great people, they provide outstanding services. I lost a pet and they were extremely helpful. My pet was found, then I went and adopted another family member from them. Great daily report. You can tell the staff really love their jobs.
A O
They were great, they took the time to help me find my dog. They called me and kept me updated, and help me through the process. There are tons of dogs that go through there every day, so thank you very much for all of your help. Luna is back home after 10 days. Thank you all, my fat red is back!!!
Megan Jacobson
They have a good layout for the dogs and kittens. The meet and greet process they use is a wonderful tool to introduce the animals to new people.
They lost a star because I saw animals being treated for medical conditions were kept with the general population which creates a lot of contamination risk. As people are petting the dogs in the kennels they are spreading dander, slobber and germs between dogs.
Brittany Woodall
My sweet girl is a great addition! So happy in her new home. Adoption was easy and the staff really seem to care! Great notes, history and difficulty scores found online to help you make your choice easier. I’m so happy with my beautiful new girl!
Cody Marcel-Morris
I adopted my husky, Laika from MCACC. She is the sweetest, most gorgeous and personable husky I have ever met. I do not know how she came about MCACC but it was definitely a fate moment when I met her.
This place breaks my heart.
While reading a lot of these other reviews it is important to remember where you are adopting from. It is not PetSmart or an animal hospital or a mall-style puppy mill. This is a last stop for the dogs who are being housed there and it is tragic.
A lot of people in these review raved about how the staff "just likes euthanizing dogs!" but the true reality is that only so much can be done on such a tight budget with a fixed amount of space.
I am glad I rescued my sweet girl from this horrid nightmare. Every dog deserves a home and I wish reality was different and dogs did not need to be put down for the sake of an extra bed at the shelter or because they were rejected.
Please do not judge this awful place's need to exist or the staff there based off of the notion that anyone enjoys what happens there. If it bothers you as much as it bothers me, donate or adopt a dog yourself. Do not rate this place 1-star because the poor living conditions or the fact that dogs WILL die there. Those are facts that will not change as long as people avoid this place because of it.

Adopted 2 small dogs on the 26th of September, had a great experience. The staff was great and friendly. Thank you, I love my new babies. Great job guys !
Crystal Marie
They helped us find out baby girl who ran off after being spooked by our maintenance workers. Thank you to the world's nicest couple who took care of her and helped us reunite. Thank you Eric and all the staff at both locations for bringing our girl back to us.
Amanda Schmitz
We had just been through the loss of our 13 year old dog, who had to be put to sleep due to old age and medical reasons. The people at the MCACC were so kind and helpful for finding the right dog for us. She fits in better than I could ever believe! They allow you to see the kennels, so you can wander through to meet the dogs and cats. You can tell that they take good care of all the babies.
S. M. Lyon
This is a huge facility. The people here are awesome ! New dog daily and great adoption fees! You can bring your dog for a meet and great and there are large yards and dog runs for you to interact. There are small and large .. mutts and purebreds young and old and wonderful cats too! Please check it out and find a friend today.

We drove quite a bit to adopt a turkey tester only to find out they can't be around other animals for two weeks. Great piece of info that should have been included on the site so we knew beforehand.
Lonely Mutt
I adopted my boy (Frijol) a week ago--it has been the best decision I've made these last months. He's everything I was looking for in a dog. He has helped me with my depression and paranoia.
Adoption process was very easy. Highly recommend this place, they are very professional and care for the animals at the shelter.

It is now time for YOU to meet your new family member. Much Love

Staff was excellent. Puppy did come home with Respiratory infection and have to spend extra money on vet and meds that weren't expected.

~ I'll start by saying IF YOU WANT A PUPPY BECAUSE IT'S CUTE BUT CAN'T AFFORD TO FEED YOURSELF REAL FOOD OR DON'T HAVE TIME TO TRAIN IT PROPERLY...PLEASE JUST DON'T GET ONE!! IF YOU WANT TO TRY, FOSTER-FOSTER-FOSTER... There are approximately 400 animals who need a person to love them & treat them with kindness and the return on that small investment will be MASSIVE. I couldn't begin to tell you how, but I promise that dogs who've been abandoned with a back-story only God knows will thank you for saving them every day for the rest of their lives. I refuse to review this shelter in general. I will review the fact I met a couple amazing people connected to dogs put on the E-List, I can't imagine they're paid for the lengths they'll go to save an animal, or their willingness to help families/individuals who are willing to take in an E-listed dog... they're both amazing people. Andrea & Mark are the two main people who helped save Zane's life. I'm fostering him right now, his time was up on Feb 17th, that's the day I spoke with a nice worker from the shelter who made the calls to make sure I wasn't a danger to Zane & to stop him from taking that final walk. I couldn't get there until a day later & I'm so glad I made it.... he's the most loving gentle giant & his favorite spot has become my husband <- Zane is too big for his lap so he just lays flat on top of him or stands on his lap with his front paws on his shoulders. This dog hugs a pillow while he sleeps and snores like a grizzly bear. Him & my other two wear muzzles <for now> when they're in the same area & if they need that permanently that's fine, it's not the level of inconvenience that would ever allow me to risk this big baby being put down. He's Protective of my children but not overly protective. He knows his life was saved. Foster a dog today

Adopted my kitty in November of 2021. It took about a week for him to adjust to his new home but now he's relaxed and happy. He's one of the spicy cats but has a sweet side too. He's curious, affectionate, and playful. I'm glad he is happy in my home!

I absolutely love these folks! They helped me find my "Fur Babies!" I was starting to look like a permanent fixture around the place looking for the perfect fit for my home. I literally got to know staffers on a first named basis and each time I came in I was greeted with warm and very welcoming smiles and requests to help in anyway that they could. That really made me feel welcomed.
After finding a few potentials we looked through the files and narrowed down my searches until the two that were great for our family were found.
Thank you so much M.C.A.C.C. we are family now!
Matthew Burkett
They do a great job taking care of the doggies and getting them fixed up and adopted out! I am now a volunteer there!
Laura Ramirez
Adopted our first pet. It was a great experience. Staff are so helpful and respectful.
Chris Dupree
The lady up front made the paperwork easy and she was just awesome and seemed excited for us to take our doggy home so overall it was a great experience from the one who brought us into the room to meet our doggy to the one who brought him out for us to take home #Jensenpurebreadgoodboy
Mike Rogus
These fur babies are in our lives for a short time, weather they are with us a short time or 10-15+ years dogs will always give us their undivided love 100 .
We as there owners must have patience, time and love because owning a pet is the greatest joy a person can experience like raising children.
I have adopted three dogs from the west shelter, still have two and one was just put down but I know that the two years I had Whippet I know he did enjoy his time in our lives and he was a trooper til the end .
So I ask of you if you are reading this, if you have time love and patience and if your life is stable then adopt a dog that’s going to bring you years of laughter and love.
So many to choose from!
Señorita Jacobo
We adopted a sick pup.... I called the clinic several times with questions and to seek help since the vets near me had no appointments soon enough and I was helped each time. This guy is so sweet and loving and I'm glad we were able to adopt ❤. The wait times are prolonged but that's expected during the weekends and especially if they are having a $25 adoption special!

Ihave a pittbull in is shinaman blood history dog is bout 4 months that ineed to give it away or take it to some shelther is this good place?

Our first experience here yesterday was amazing, and the staff are incredibly friendly!
They let us walk through the buildings to see all the dogs & cats (even though we were only looking for a cat, it was still nice to see the dogs💖) It got busier later in the day, but it wasn't too bad unless you're looking for a very intimate meeting. I'd suggest to ask for days & times when they aren't too busy to accommodate you. The staff we met really cared for the animals here, and were so helpful! It was a clean facility, just a little confusing, but if you asked anyone for help or directions, they'd happily help you!
We are so happy to have met & adopted this beautiful girl! She was named Coco there, but we decided to name her Lychee instead. On her profile it stated that she wasn't very sociable, and was labeled as "feral", but we met her and she was the sweetest little thing! A few people met her before us, and said she wasn't too keen about them or being picked up, and so they decided not to get her. Our meeting with her went completely differently in the best way possible. As soon as she got home, she was ready to explore, playful, affectionate, and super gentle! She's my boyfriend's first cat, and she makes a wonderful one at that.
They provide you with their paperwork, medical records, info, etc, and even guides/care instructions to take home! I'd suggest to bring your own carrier though, but they do sell cardboard carriers for $8. Overall, I highly recommend adopting/fostering with them. It was a great experience, and they do an amazing job here.

LADY BIRD 😭🥺 We adopted her oct 9 ! & it’s was during the free adoption event! SHES THE MOST SMART LOVONG DOG IVE EVER HAD! At first she was so scared & it was hard for her to open up , she run away at any loud noise & now she just loves us! I’ve always wanted a dog just like her & now I’m lucky to have her ! We call her SADIE. The people there were amazing!

Very great place to go and find yourself a beautiful dog I am so happy I went there The staff are very friendly.🙏🏽❤️ …

I adopted my second dog from the shelter. He is 10 years old and a tripod. He's the sweetest little boy. It will take time for him to decompress and get used to being in a home. He has 2 dog siblings but we are going slow with introducing them. All shelter dogs need time to decompress before introducing them to animals in your home. Please be patient.
Kailua Lee
I had a great experience at this animal shelter. I wanted to adopt a dog and did my research on which dogs I would like before I arrive there at 4pm. The front lady was nice and helped me trim down to one meet & greet with a dog from the list I created as their meet & greet ends at 4:30 and there was only enough time for one. I was able to meet & greet with Chucky from the animal shelter, a very sweet dog. I am glad he came home with me. Take advantage of their $25 adoption where they will give you a bag of Hill Science (the one they feed the sheltered dogs) and a complimentary basic wellness exam within 10 days.
P Thomas
Great place. Went there during a promotion of no adoption fees. We made an appointment, drove from Tucson, and came home with a new family member. Took a bit, but they were really busy. You could tell the animals are well taken care of there. It was nice to hear the very friendly receptionist tell the person in front of us that they didn't euthanize except for extreme circumstances. All in all a fulfilling experience and we look forward to getting to know our new fur baby.
Pedro A “FOOD JUNKIE” Castillo
I was grateful to have found my new little buddie Atom he is 6 weeks old and too cute. During this month Bilssel is sponsoring the adoption fee this includes microchipping vaccines fade or neuter they also provided a carrying. Great customer and a clean as well establishment. One the best and we'll manage humane society. Would have given you 10 Stars well managed place very impressed.

I called today with questions re renewing my dog Sophie's license. A young man named Victor assisted me. He was very patient, professional and kind. Thanks Victor, you deserve a raise! 🥳👏 …

We went on a Friday to look at adopting a new pitbull. There were so many! *heart breaking* We stumbled upon a little girl with no name. She wasn't available yet (one more day waiting for potential owners to come claim her). The front desk lady was awesomely sweet and really spot-on with the information we needed. Very clean facility and organized process. Yes, if you go at an hour till closing you're going to have to wait. In the next few days we got to adopt our pitbull. We named her Cinnamon. We introduced our two little dogs to her at their on-site dog park for meet-n-greets. She was the sweetest thing ever. The shelter did everything for us! They spayed her, chipped her, vaccinated her, and even liscenced her. The only thing we had to do was take her home. Great experience.

I adopted my pup about a week ago (Geneva at the shelter, renamed Freyja). All of the people here are very friendly and efficient, very understanding and try to make the process work best for everyone. I especially want to thank one girl there named Summer who helped us make it so our dog would come home with us. I highly recommend adopting from here!
Sabrina Watson
They really care for the animals. Most of the time it's rather cheep to adopt. We've gotten 3 dogs from them. 2 of them were free and the other was only $25.
ARRATAHS
The adoption reps were very friendly and assisted us with the information for adoption right away. Great range of dogs from large to small, we will be back!
Cynthia
Website comes in handy, they’re serious about not letting too much people in and will have you stand outside or wait in car. Some staff really should work on tones, but other than that it’s very organized here.
Valerie Taylor
Wonderful people and pets! I got my new best friend here!!! Please adopt, these animals deserve a second or even third chance!
Kennan Francis Parish
The staff at the Maricopa county animal control Center actually care about everyone and insure that the your companion will return home to you.
Los Zamarripa
We Got our puppy MaX shots here. Nice staff. We got him license here. We got our puppy from a breeder not the pound. I don't know how that part works here. Just the shots & license.
Lindia Wiseman
Customers, staff, and website have difficulty determining hours of operation, and not one of the staff would say anything. Finally able to get a volunteer to provide information. Disappointing.
However, once we were admitted, staff was pleasant and helpful. The site was clean and animals looked well taken care of. Would be nice if they acknowledged Customers and let them know that the hours had changed. Better yet, tape hours to the door.

My daughter loves coming to see the dogs .Its so sad to see how many pets are with out a home .But here they get treated so good .
MOTORCITYWESTAUTO
Its the best shelter I've ever been to. We adopted a 1 year old male mutt so our 6 month old Doberman had a companion, which she really needed. We named him Diesel, and cant believe someone else wasnt looking for him or adopted him sooner. He is completely tolerant of the puppy, and left the cats alone. He is very calm and just wants some attention, but loves to play. He has apparently never been on tile before because he does this roadrunner thing where all 4 wheels are spinning but he doesnt move right away.

Thank to Brittney for introducing us to miss Little Bo-Peep! In the couple days she has been with us, she has done nothing but THRIVED. she loves playing with all of her toys, loves walks and getting treats, and does AMAZING with our older dog. They are best friends. Bo is such a great addition to our household. I’m so happy I got her. We absolutely love her! THANK YOU ❤️❤️❤️ Britney was very knowledgeable about Bo and her history, how she acted in the facility, and her medical history. She even gave us very good advice on training and introducing her, as this is our first puppy. We absolutely adore her, I’m so happy. Thank you so much! All staff was amazing as well.

I was on a mission for months to rescue a dog but I had to be cautious since I already own an introverted big baby Lab who was used to getting all the attention. Sadly the shelter has way too many dogs and not enough workers to expect them to know much about each dog but they do care and do their absolute best under the circumstances due to being overwhelmed with dogs. The man at the front desk was very helpful and nice. The meet and greet experience was excellent. The staff were very patient with me as I made my decision. I adopted her and I renamed her “Xena” and she is a social butterfly princess! It’s been 2 months. She had kennel cough and a sinus infection when she first came home but antibiotics and a lot of rest and love cured her. The people there truly care about the dogs and they just need help to find them good homes. Please adopt and save a life!
Rae Ann Cooper
This is Titus and I just rescued him from Maricopa County Animal Care where he was taken after being found wondering around lost. He is the sweetest and I already love him. Thanks to Maricopa County Animal Care for the care you provided for him until he was adopted by me. Your staff and volunters are so kind and caring and very helpful to both the public and the animals brought to you!! Thanks again for your service and uniting me amd Titus!!
Brittany Richards
Just adopted our new pup, Jacko, on empty the shelter day, staff were so nice and helpful. He came home with everything (shots, rabies liscence, and chip)he needed plus a free vet follow up visit! As busy as the place is, they still maintain a professional and kind environment.

Came here just to get some paperwork done for a senior person's pet, so all I experienced was the front lobby. Reviewing that: it was clean, staff were very helpful, wait was short, and everything got taken care of in one trip. I really appreciated that.
Kaeleigh Lopez
The people there are always so helpful and friendly. I've gotten all my animal's from here. I would. Highly recommend adopting from here.
Terri Lape
Love free adoption day. I think we should all ho and release two , if you can. Thank you to the sponsors that pay for everything
Deb H
Went on a free adoption weekend, and the experience was great despite being so busy. The kennels were clean and the animals there seemed happy. The staff was very enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and kind. Also walked away with this handsome, loving, incredible young man.
Arizona Printshop
I got my cool German Shepherd puppy from this shelter. Super nice people, very clean. Probably the most organized, clean, friendliest shelter I have ever seen. Well worth the visit. I highly recommend it if you are looking for that cool companion.
Kim Brawn
I am so happy we went. We adopted Bruin (aka Scott). He is my girls best bud! Blu and Bruin = magic!
The Rio Salado office is a very old building and needs to be renovated or just replaced all together. The west side facility is so impressive. The staff at both locations were amazing, kind, and helpful. So impressed. I wish spaying/neuter was required by law. It is a SHAME so many pets are not in homes with forever families. PLEASE ADOPT TODAY if you can take care of a pet. Please do not go there if you aren't going to provide a safe and loving home forever. These animals go through too much! It is so sad.
Sara Osburn
I picked up my new puppy Cosmo there. Staff was very helpful and pleasant to work with in finding a new pet for my household.
josh harwell
This would be 5 star review except for the lady at the front desk being rude to not only us but many other people who came in. We waited about 45 minutes to see a dog because somehow we had been forgotten. This was not my issue since we were planning to search the kennels all day to find the right dog. We were the only ones besides administration in the lobby for probably half of that 45 minute time. The only people waiting in other words. Aftet 30 minutes of waiting I politely walked up and waited for her to finish her typing since I did not want to interrupt her work. She looked up at me in an irritated manner and says "I'm not ready to help you sir. Go stand in line." No one was in line and no one had been for perhaps 5-10 minutes. So I walked over and once I was standing there she called me over. Pure power trip. She was rude to my wife, mother, and quite a few more customers who came in.
In summary my dog I got from there was great, and the adoption process was great. However, the red headed front desk worker was very rude and condescending.
Thomas Smith
They really are doing the best they can with what they got.. Excellent place you can tell the employees really care about the animals they handle

My boyfriend and I were in there a couple times to find our pomsky a sibling and everyone was so nice and accommodating and we eventually found our newest baby. We have had her a week and life couldn't be better. 😊 …
maryann soraparu
Cleanest shelter I've ever been to. Everyone seems very caring and wants the absolute best for the animals. Adopted a puppy at 9 weeks.
mike sanchez
Dropped off four abandoned pitbull puppies at my house and picked up this beautiful dog at the time a gentleman was surrendering him. Lucky me.
Kimberly “Kim”
Was not in-and-out like I expected. Had to pay all of these fees for a dog that wasn't even registered in my name. All I wanted to do was pick up the dog that got loose from my backyard. Whoops. Anywho, gotta give the woman behind the counters credit. They are very friendly and Evelyn was a god send. I was not too happy about how long it took. I don't believe it should have taken that long to get everything done and processed. Not by a long shot. Obviously their systems are extremely out-dated. It is time for renovation here. Overall, am pleased with results (other than time issue) and am happy to have been reunited with the dog that got loose. He is now reunited with his owner. What a trouble puppy lol 😜
Tina Nicole
We like to visit the dogs and come here every couple of months.

I absolutely love this facility, although I am partial, I adopted my little senior Maltese from this location! He was extremely sick when I adopted him, but after getting a clean bill of health after my adoption at my vet, he has been thriving with his brothers and sister!

All the staff there were very helpful and friendly and did the job correctly I like to thank them and praise him highly for their job
Josue Ponce
Adopted another dog. This animal shelter was willing to work with me last minute and even allowed me to adopt after hours.

German Shepard Minerva
We were going to see Minerva the female German Shepard on Friday. We did not get the chance to do so and we went on the Saturday instead. I did not think Minerva would still be there as German Shepards are adopted quickly. She was!
We did the meet and greet rather than quick walk - by inside. Shy and thin were what I would describe her as. She was classified a stray. She was cute and picked up a toy outside to hold and play with while we were there.
We decided to take her and told the attendant we would adopt her. It took a while to get the adoption done as the printer was acting up. We accomplished the clerical function, left a nice donation as the adoption fees were paid for already, and loaded her in the back of our Escape. Pleasant ride to our home and she would look out between us quietly.
What a sweet - heart she turned out to be. She knows some commands, takes snacks nicely, will go into her crate with no effort, follows Jan all over the house, loves to fetch her two toys and a football, and is a good walker.
The stray Minerva and now Minnie has turned out to be a Cinderella. We are very happy with her. Thank you.
April 12, 2022; Minnie is doing well. She is my walking companion around Maricopa. People look at her and wonder why she was a stray. She listens to commands, has her area to use for going, and loves to fetch.

LOVED that they have soft music playing, small pools available. Was much less barking and dogs were calm. Better off here than in some backyards. PLEASE RESCUE- These Two bullies we're playing(not fighting) and then snuggled w/ each other on same tiny bed
.The A/c was out in Bldg A, I reported it to older lady employee who seemed less than concerned:( hope she reported for maintenance.
Sharon Kalin
My experience down there was awesome. One of the dog caretakers listen to me and matched me up perfectly with a wonderful dog. She's only been with me less than 24 hours but Sammy fits right into the family and it's great!
james price
Love this place and hate it at the same time because people don't know how to care for their animals but then at the same time I love this place because it gives people a chance to adopt animals that need love please adopt don't buy animals
Dylan Toczek
We were a walk in without an appt and they were able to accomdate us and we walked out with the newest member of our Family, Linux. Make sure to call and confirm if they have availability for walk ins or make an appt first
Robert Cerrone
Big facility. The staff was very helpful and knowledgable. You're gonna want to adopt all those poor animals!
Becca Nelson
Kinda had a hard time finding it but once we got there we found a great place and a special pet. We adopted Caste a surrendered female cat. she is very sweet and loving only a little over a year old. At first she was shy but settled in quickly. We renamed her Sheba because it's obvious she is a special queen.
Debbie Latter
all the pens were clean and big and roomy. It was cold to cold for me to meet and greet outside. So I'm going back tomorrow to adopt one of the dogs I picked out..Staff was very nice and heipful.
MrDmntsty1 azfiyah
Clean healthy quick and professional environment with helpful kind staff.
Michele Willis
I adopted three dogs I love them A lot cheaper than the pet store
Rachel T
Big thank you to Christine in Lost and Found. Super friendly and helpful in reuniting 3 Dachshunds we found with their owner. I could tell she truly cared and was as happy as we were.
Michele Hedrick
This is a great place for animals and very clean. Also staff is very informative with information. 👍 …
Michelle “Miiichelllle” Allen
Was there to register my dog. Had trouble doing it online. The employees were patient and kind. There was a long wait, though, due to staffing shortages and COVID. I was understanding. I appreciate the work they do at the shelter. It's a tough job.
Deborah Owens
I was checking to find out any adoption deals upcoming. I did not visit either of their shelters.
Heather M
It took a long time but I finally found a dog to adopt. I have adopted through the county before and each dog stole my heart ❤ my newest, Lucy.
Lizette Rivera
Took 2 German Shepard Puppies I found. Clean place and everyone was very kind and loving to the animals. Definitely recommend
Lyn Greene
I had to surrender a house cat. The staff was sympathetic and helpful. The price was a little steep for someone on a fixed income. I was assured my sweet girl would find a good home.
Cindy M
Skilled staff working as hard as they can to help the homeless animals. Durango Shelter has 5 star service or they strive for it.
Victor Aguilar
Good place to take a found puppy or cat they do their best to take care of animals
Shane
Great facility and friendly staff with lots of wonderful pets to adopt. My only complaint is that they wouldn't let me adopt all the animals.
Alice Skinner
Clean ,, easy to see and interact with not only the animals but with all who work there.
Caring and efficient.
Sydney S
I adopted a wonderful mixed breed here. The woman helping was so kind and caring. Great experience.
Thomas Richard
They are the most caring, thanks a million guys👍👍☑️😄🥳 …
Tonya Savage
Everyone is so nice and everything went so smoothly and easy. Would definitely adopt there again.
Jean Tah
We got all 3 of our dogs from here. They are awesome. All so loved💕💕& spoiled! …
Nessi Benally
Always love getting a member of our family here, he will continue to love us back. Welcome home Dunkin.. 🥰 …
David Gentile
They took better care under joe, sadly he made too many enemies. Now a tard is in charge.
Terri Baker
I had a very good experience at the shelter got a very cute loving dog. My disappointment came when we went to pick up the dog we learned she had a mass that they didn't tell us about they asked at that time we picked her up you still want to adopt her of course we said yes but it would have been nice to know ahead of time. Now taking her to a vet it's going to cost me $700.00 for her to have surgery. I had a good experience going there but not to thrilled that I have to dish out that kind of money right off the bat.
`Mike F
Great place to save a life. Every dog I've owned has come from here. They do a great job keeping the place clean and presentable. Lots of great pets.
Lisa Schneider
I have adopted 2 fur babies from this shelter. I am always happy to see how all the volunteers spoil the animals that are there when I visit. Don't care for dogs being in cages but it makes me feel better knowing they are being taken out and getting attention.
Jana Albany
Great dog. Very mild mannered. He's not a Husky but an Alaskan Malmute which is what I wanted. Sweet disposition.
Ryan Tucknott
Hardly have any cats. The place is designed for cats, but they only have a few. I was told they don’t really deal with cats. The facility was a little dirty. The staff didn’t greet us and wasn’t the most friendly when we were asking questions. Not horrible, but not amazing. I’m thankful for the service they provide the county.
Zac Alameda
We saved what might have been considered a lost soul. This is his second week at his new home. Who was once William we are calling him Bruce now... Or Master Wayne.
WANDA PIETRI
More should be done for these innocent creatures. Maybe a mass effort 1 week of neutering mobile units providing on site help from neighborhood to neighborhood. It would help people who would like to help strays and can't afford the price of 25 dollars per feral or strays animals. In the mean time 1000 will be killed as said humainly. It's never humaine just needful. To people who work or volunteer at these places there is I hope a special place for kind souls as yours.
Lakeshia Mosby
I'm lost my Yorkie pup last Friday and desperately trying to find him
Keep Right Except to Pass
Beyond 5 stars! Amazing people and place for poor homeless animals. I will adopt forever! Infinite thanks to all who visit and work here!
There is no economically viable way to keep so many dogs seperate and ensure no germs are transmitted. Anyone expecting perfect dogs or cats here is going to the wrong place.
Jessica House
We found a stray dog. They made the process easy.
Pluto Mercury
this is a great shelter don't get me wrong they care for the animals from what I've seen but my only problem is the day I went to pick up my lost dog (after calling beforehand) he was adopted by another owner, I'm not sure which department would be at fault for something like that and I really hope it was a one-time thing just be careful
Derinda Thiessen
We have adopted 5 dogs from Maricopa County Animal Control over the last 30 years. All have been wonderful dogs. The people who work there are all super nice. They help in anyway they can. It cost much less than pet stores, you can still find purebred. We have gotten 3 purebreds, and were very happy with our choices. Adopt don't shop, there are so many wonderful dog there, that need good homes.
Robert Ramirez
Great detail once you arrive . You sign in you look confused. No worries there's some one there to help you .
Andrea Nolker
The staff was so helpful, I couldn't believe how many people surrendered their own fur babies. I found a pup and a week later saw she was adopted.
Bertha Poah
I was afraid I would see dogs in crimped cages with no spaces but was relieved to see this:photos. The other downside is the does are not micro chipped
Amanda Fearn
My husband and I found a stray dog Sunday evening. After 5 days chilling with us and posting EVERYWHERE and returning to where we found him and canvassing, the owner never came forward. We loved caring for this dog, but we're unable to accommodate permanent housing and found the Maricopa shelter staff to be nothing but kind, loving and gave us a very thorough rundown of how to call and check up on the guy until he finds his forever home. Unlike most shelters you walk through the door and you can tell there's hope. I just want to thank all of the people that were working the front desk and the check-in booth they were just really sweet and I felt so much better knowing he was in their hands.
Ryan Webber
I found a dog on a job site that the job owner said was dumped and had no one to care for him. The job site owner was having his equipment picked up to be moved and the dog was gonna be left. So I took him and then finally was directed here to bring him. Me and him hung out all day and bonded so it was sad to leave him there but had no room for more pets. The woman at the front made me feel like I was some sort of criminal or terrible person for dropping off this dog. She said to another lady “he said he found him in the desert so we just have to believe him I guess.” All of it was a terrible experience I was still in my work uniform and work truck when I took him in. But was still made to feel like I was wrong for finding this poor guy some care.
Now for the 5 stars. Christine has been back and fourth with me on phone calls and has updated me on him. And it’s been the most heart warming news to hear he’s happy to see people and playing. I’m not sure where she works but she truly cares and has made my experience worth it. So thank you Christine, I’m not sure if you ever hear it. But we appreciate you!
Natalie S.
They seem to really care for the animals! You can tell by how they treat them, how the dogs love the staff and how clean their areas are. They also always have clean water and food! If you're interested in adopting a pet this is the place to go to. Also, their website usually have really good info about the animals behaviors, age, weight, what types of homes they'd need, etc... If you're looking for your forever pet, this is the place to go!
Jodie Hartwig
Make an appointment!! Some say you don't need one, next day you will. My one and only complaint. We found our Sweetie. Everyone was Friendly and efficient. The process was fast and easy. I would go through them again.
Shila Workman
About 2 weeks ago I had to surrender my dog it was hard to let him go but after stopping in to see him he's doing so good he looks happy and healthy.
Sandi Atkinson
Staff is helpful and friendly. Tina and Gabby were amazing. Gabby went above and beyond to help me, even though it was close/past closing. $25 adoption fees right now, if you need a new pet, this place is one place to start.
Savannah Jenkins
So clean and organized and you can tell the staff really cares about their customers and animals. They have great descriptions for all the animals so you can browse online before you go in to meet them. We came home with a handsome long-haired grey cat and we couldn't be happier.
Steven Parker
2 hrs + ,Made an appointment, didn't mean a thing. 95% most of the time the was sitting and the waiting. The volunteers were great but they were also stuck waitng for paperwork or to be told what to do and I feel for them and the animals. The actual paid employees were really nice also but really slow, typical gov operation and no management in site. Need more employees that want to work, a lot of people standing around leaning against walls. Thank God for the volunteers. Make sure you have plenty of time and even more patience.
Tina Chau
Donated blankets for the pups and I was greeted by amazing staff's and volunteers. I love it.
Rhonda Morgan
The staff is awesome. The Covid protocols are great. I liked having an appointment, not crowded, seemed super controlled, beautiful animals and I got my new little kitten for $25, not $175 from a pet store. Awesome experience.
Haleigh Taylor
Very helpful and friendly staff. Adoption process was very easy. Just took our forever friend home. We love him! Thanks MCACC!
Robert Abbott
We got our second rescue from here. We are a two dog family and we lost one in the beginning of the year and another one in the beginning of May.
Jacob Nielger
Wonderful staff and amazing facilities! We adopted a cat there around a month ago and she has completed our household. They really do their best to give these animals a comfortable experience and I’m so happy we went there. ALWAYS TRY THE SHELTER FIRST! They are the best pets!
nicole Vanus
Very clean , didn't smell. Usually in a place like this the animals look miserable but all the animals I saw today seemed pretty content. Employees were very nice & helpful, answered all my questions.
Jarren Drury
They found my dog kept him safe and helped me nueter him and get him his rabies shot microchip him and register him for a reasonable price.
Michael Davis
Great facility. Brought Martin to them after finding him as a stray. Awesome dog looking for his home!
Timm Jurincie
Clean, bright, well ventilated, lots of info on pets, and a friendly staff that seem to really enjoy working with the animals! Lots of choices for pets there too (unfortunately for them).
We brought home a beautiful white Alaskan Husky that has been a wonderful addition to our family!
Over the years, I have rescued 6 or 7 Huskies, Malamutes, and Wolf hybrids from here, and WILL do it again!
I have also gotten Huskies etc. from the various Husky rescues in the valley, until I realized that they were asking $250 to $650 for their rescued dogs, and the Maricopa Animal shelter was getting under $100 for theirs. Hmmmmm.
Nuff said.....
Christian Ayala
Helped us adopt our new furry friend, they were very organized even during COVID.
Duncan Prentice
My girlfriend and I adopted our beautiful new family member yesterday here, and it was a GREAT experience, especially considering the circumstances we are all facing currently. Summer and Sheri are who assisted us, and both were so so great. Summer was very knowledgeable of all the dogs, you can tell she truly enjoys what she is doing. She was just great. She made my girlfriend and I comfortable, but even more importantly, she made sure the animals were comfortable. Sheri at the desk is so sweet, and just made everything so smooth and simple. We are so so happy that we are able to give our new pup a home, and would HIGHLY recommend for anyone looking to give a great animal a new home, to come here!
Rosaland Collins
It was beautiful the pets looked happy staff friendly.
Betty
Everyone was amazing there. We adopted Jerry, but he came out of his shell in a day, so Scooby-Doo fits him better !! We adore our new member to the family, and his sister fur babies do too.
carlos garcia
Got the most love able dog here! Service was great.
Monty Crawford
We loved every single minute. The staff was amazing kind and educated.... We adopted two beautiful pitbulls and so happy we did. Junior and Cooper will live their best lives ever. Thank you
Karissa Comeau
These people know and love the dogs here! An impressive amount of effort is put into ensuring that you and whatever pet you choose to take home are a great match. The kennels were well-kept, especially considering that there were 600+ dogs there when we visited! We were there on a busy weekend during a huge adoption event, and found that everything was well-organized and streamlined from start to finish. Great experience, and now we have the perfect dog for our family! Thank you!
Diana Mortensen
Awesome staff and very helpful. I adopted Berlin a project dog on 8/21. The handler worked with us to explain our dogs situation. Berlin was very fearful and unsocialized. It's been 2 days since we brought him home. Berlin already walks on the leash, eats treats our of our hands and has warmed up an incredible amount. He comes right up to us and wants love and to be petted. He's awesome and super smart. Thanks guys!
Natasha Dennison
Wounded and hurt but happy he's home and safe.
David Govan Jr
I found a stray dog near my residence and needed a place to take the animal. So I looked up pet shelters and I was able to find this lovely place. They were professional, pleasant and also reassuring that this was the right decision to make for the animal. I would recommend for surrendering a pet as well as ADOPTION for a pet💯😀 …
Sinead Steverson
The shelter facility was very clean and well kept. The animals I viewed (cats) seemed happy and healthy. Their kennels were well equipped with water, food, and bedding. When I walked into one of the kennel areas, a staff member who was tending to the kennels was willing to help me look for a cat. I was shown (3) mild mannered cats before I made a decision. I ended up choosing to adopt the first cat I had been shown. She is a sweet and energetic girl whom I have renamed Oreo because of her coloring (she is a tuxedo cat). I have had her for about a week. It looks like things with my new cat will work out. We just have to get used to one another's schedules. Another point to make about the shelter is how the front desk takes the time to brief you on the animals health and other information pertaining to the animal before having you sign the adoption contract. I am satisfied with the entire adoption process. I would be willing to go back in the future to adopt another animal from the shelter.
Update as August 23, 2021: I would never dissuade anyone from adopting a shelter animal; however, I do want to ask something of the shelter. Could you please find a more accurate way to age the animals put up for adoption? I ask this because I was told my cat Oreo was a 1 year old. I took her to the vet a couple of weeks after adopting her to find out she was really between 8-10 years old. She passed away from what was suspected to be cancer on June 27, 2021. I wanted a younger adult cat at the time so I would not have to say goodbye so soon. Letting potential owners know a more accurate age of the pets you care for will help them weigh whether or not they can afford to take care of the animal. A senior pet requires more medical care sometimes. I do not regret adopting my Oreo. I am just devastated I only had the honor to care for my baby for less than (2) years. The loss of Oreo has hit me hard. Thank you for taking her in and caring for her as you did.
Christina “Chris” Ebarra
I have my new best friend but she is a handful...
Olivia Elson
I adopted my sweet pit bull from here and I’ve never been happier. The staff was super helpful when looking at dogs. We were even given trainer’s phone numbers and a few volunteers who were interested in his well being after we adopted. They are super informative of the risks of adopting so you know what can possibly happen. I will be back when I am ready for a new pet. Highly recommend.
Laura Vega
I had to bring in a stray that I took in but went unclaimed after a few weeks. She was chipped and we didnt have to pay any fees. It took about an hour! I was prepared to be there for at least 2 and a half. The staff was friendly and the check in person did a great job of managing the chaos. The smoothie and coffee truck did not disappoint either.
CindyD
I surrendered a big sweet dog found abandoned on a trail, and the staff member at intake hugged him and found out he could do tricks. She made me feel like I'd done the right thing. Everyone was very kind. I posted him on NextDoor and a lost pet Facebook group. When no owner came forward, someone who saw my posts messaged me to say she went down and adopted him! I feel like Maricopa County Animal Care and Control gave him his best chance.
Autumn G
I love how they have notes on the dogs - whether it be the behaviors/play style/interactions with others or any history available on each one. The workers/volunteers really care about the animals, every single person I talked to was really helpful with questions/ getting the dogs out to meet whichever ones you are interested in. And also with all the paperwork at the end, they make it a breeze. It took a couple visits here to find just the right one for our family, but so so worth it! If you are looking for a new pet, this is where to go, there is so many waiting for a home. <3
Rochelle Simon
This will not be your best experience. I'm not sure if it's bc we are post covid and they need more help OR if they always operate like this, but I am sure they are doing their best with the hands on deck. On weekends there are volunteers, but that's bc they are twice as busy. My family got the pup of our dreams.... we are very thankful to the staff for all they do.
Jacobo's Landscape Maintenance
Very good experience for us all, our questions where all answered and even thought we didn't get to adopt the pup we originally went for because she was on hold. We got plenty of info on other pups and returned the next day and were able to adopt ❤
Trent Hermann
We got our dog about a year ago he has been a great addition to the family. We are going back to look for a playmate for him. The service was great the kennels were clean and little smell. I recommend saving a shelter dog. Ours was /is an older dog so there was no cost to bring him home
Paulette Schnyder
Nice shelter - a little busy over the weekend due to free adoptions but could use more workers to make the process go a little faster. Also if the dogs have to be spayed or neutered before they leave, why don't they just do it in advance?
Pirate Chronicles
We were so fortunate to find a quiet, loving new member of our family. Welcome home!
Creative Minds
Loved it, except the lady Christine who felt the need to tell me how to take care of a dog as if I never had any or children for that matter. Volunteers need to remain quiet and allow customer to decide what's best for themselves not what the volunteers feel.
Kimberly Higgins
Well my son was promised a puppy when he was 10 years old by me and then I was gone for a while because I was arrested and spent way too much time in prison (for a victimless crime that AZ makes lots of money on) so now he's 16 and I still owe him a puppy. I really really wanted to get this pitbull puppy but they all sold out within the same hour they arrived... I wish there was a waiting list for certain animals because I hated going down there and seeing all those precious lives that I couldn't save because my son's picky and wants the dang puppy that I promised him when I just want to rescue all those beautiful souls! But their facility is very upscale and nice and beautiful compared to the Mesa alternative which is almost like a prison in itself because it's dingy and dark and just scary to go through. This place was beautiful and they had lots of areas for people to take the dogs out and play with them.
Stella
My small dog snuck past me, ran outside and I didn't even know she was missing for 3 hrs! Neighbor took her in for one day(didn't know dog was mine), called city animal control who transferred my dog to Maricopa County Animal Control. They ensured she received chip and vaccinations before releasing her to me. I appreciated this one-stop service since my dogs Vet is a long distance away. Workers were patient and professional in handling the process.
Michael Potocnik
Evelyn the front line guardian and intake phycologist and people calmer is the very best person for her amazingly ability to coordinate and bring peace and order.
The entire staff is so loving of the animals and compassionate toward the people for surrendering an animal. They solve the medical problems and get the critters ready for adoption. The adopting is a straight forward and fun process.
Nicholas Burns
They were friendly and helpful. They recommended chipping our dog and we agreed. When it turned out she was already chipped (she was a rescue and no one told us) they have us the info we needed to get her chip registered to us.
Pink Reine
All of the animals we saw seemed to be clean and well taken care of. I have gone to shelters that have been horribly maintained, this was not one of those. It also did not smell bad.
I am Christopher.A.M.
The people here are Saints on Earth. It's so sad for me to go through here, all the buildings just full of animals big and small and been through so much. I wonder what they've been through, the things they've witnessed and had to bear. Reasons behind their behaviors and the love they need to be consistent to help forget those scars. I ponder why these animals just desire attention from owners that a high percentage just dump them somewhere and how can humans be so heartless but humans are capable of evil and these animals are not.
We adopted One of numerous and wish the best for the rest left behind.
The Saints of Maricopa County Animal Control are just that......Saints on Earth for Pets sadly left behind.
Deborah G
Very clean facilities, friendly staff. We adopted three new family members and love each and every one of them. They all three have serious medical conditions but they told us up front at the adoption desk. It turns out our Veterinarian can treat each case and give them all a comfortable and healthy life. We asked for the ones that were "unadoptable" and we found the most precious, loving, sweet little Angel's anyone could ask for.
Gina B
Had an excellent experience finding our new friend today! Thank you to all the staff and volunteers, you guys rock!
Lia Theriault
I didn't go any further than the intake room as I was dropping off a stray, but the people I dealt with were all WONDERFUL! Caring, helpful and great with a very scared little dog. My first time there, and I was very pleasantly surprised.
Rachel 808
Great place to rescue an animal, as long as your boyfriend isn't young and attractive (see reason 3). My boyfriend and I got our DREAM dog here, and it was overall quick and easy. MOST of the staff is really friendly, which made it a positive experience. I took off stars for a few reasons. 1. You have to make an appointment b/c of everything going on which is smart. When booking the appointment, they ask you to specify which animal you want to look at (not mandatory). I put down the animals i.d, but when we got there we were told that the dog we wanted to look at was adopted the very day we made the appointment. We were happy she got adopted, but maybe we could have been notified that she was never actually available? 2. There is a 2 dog viewing limit. This in itself is not an issue, but if you strike out with the first 2. you're going home empty handes. When we asked for the first dog, we were told she had a "slight hearing impairment". Turns out she was totally deaf and the only reason we found out is because one of the workers yelled this information to us from across the way - not the people helping us. The second dog we looked at currently had kennel cough and although she was already being treated for it, we were going to have to get the rest of her treatment ourselves from a vet. We were also only told she had kennel cough AFTER they came back with her. We would not have used our final spot in the 2 dog limit situation if we had known. 3. One of the doctors/nurses/vets (whatever, she was wearing scrubs), was openly and aggressively flirting with my boyfriend. She saw him and came over to sit down at the front desk in front of a computer whithout actually doing anything. She proceeded to make inappropriate comments about his appearance directly to him, right in front of me. She continued to comment about how young and handsome he was (creepy). This was beyond unprofessional and uncomfortable for both of us. This alone would have made me leave the establishment, and give this place 1 star if the rest of the staff weren't so friendly and professional, and if we weren't already in the process of adopting our wonderful dog.
Laura Perkett Hinton
I attended an event on Friday where the shelter was trying to get as many pets adopted as possible due to overcrowding. Even though there were probably 4-5 times as many people as usual, the staff & volunteers were very friendly & extremely helpful. I was the last person there when they had already closed but they were still more than happy to finish my adoption of a very unique dog. 👍😊
Kristy Price
I think it's awesome that they offer free spay and neuter for pets. I got my dog spayed, all shots and registered for $90. Otherwise it would cost around 400 to get her taken care of. The staff was kind and explained everything to me. My dog had no problems after and is back to her normal self.
james reeds
Adopted a pretty pit bull from here today.. Princess is the sweetest dog ever!!! The staff was the best.My family and I had the best experience at this location... from the time we walked in ,and browsed around ,met princess, to the adoption paperwork,it was effortless. Adoption for us was a long process being that my 7 year old was nearly kill by a rottweiler a while back. We have been to almost every place that has dogs in the valley, all the shelters ,humane society's and this was by far the CLEANEST FACILITY OF THEM ALL. Thank you for everything 💜.
Laurie “L.Piddy” Pierce
They are super organized but patient. Plus, they are super strict with their covid guidelines: only 10 people in the main lobby at a time. The staff were incredibly sweet. I may go back to help volunteer one day soon.
Cynthia Randall
The employees were helpful and caring. Our dog was well taken care of during her stay. They even called to let us know they had received our voice messages though we had already gotten our lost dog back. I cannot say enough nice things about them.
Gabriela Ramirez
People were extremely nice, helpful, and knowledgeable. Loved the experience and I hope my new dog loves its new home. If everything work out well, hopefully next time I'll get a dog from here again.
Heather Marie
I know that government organizations usually get a bad rap, but this place is the exception. So organized... The people who work at the animal shelter genuinely love animals and care about them. And they smile and are so helpful! They even stayed open past their closing time to help out people with adoptions and the like. So nice to see. I recommend that if you are thinking about adopting an animal to come here first... there are hundreds of animals needing a home. When you adopt an animal for a nominal fee, they come spayed or neutered, have all of their shots, and are micro chipped. Even better, you get a free vet visit to use to make sure your animal is in good health! I recommend without hesitation this shelter to anyone looking to rescue an animal.
Marteal Lamb
The staff is very courteous and professional, although they don't really have a lot of cats. If you want dogs, you should be good. They are very good about health precautions, all the staff there have their masks on and they are very careful about social distancing.
Sally Suarez
We brought our girl home a week ago today; it was an organized and smooth process throughout the appointment. They were really helpful woth making sure we were well informed about each doggo we saw.
We were provided with a tag, collar, and short leash, as well as a portrait. The artist really captured her sweet eyes 😭🥰
Eloise Prevost
The Maricopa County Animal Shelter is a wonderful way to help an animal in need by adopting your next furry friend from the shelter. ❤
They spay, neuter, vaccinate, license and microchip.
With hundreds of dogs available, go online to see photos of adoptable animals at the shelter.
To see specific animals you will need to have an appointment.
Anita Tension
The only thing that sucks is having to have an appointment. And not being able to get in if u havent made one. How can u save lives if your turning away potential adopters? And the fast pass deposit should be credited to another dog if the owner decides to show up instead of it being a total loss.
Tammy Cowart
Most of the staff is very friendly and helpful. The whole building is the cleanest I have seen for having all of those animals. The only problem I see is that there needs to be a bit more organization. Not only does it take a long time to stand in line in order to be able to meet with an animal, it takes longer to actually get your new family member after the adoption paperwork is complete.
Charlie Preuit
Got my new little girl here after i rescued her. She is absolutely wonderful.
Deanna Birdsall
One of the ladies at the front desk was a mean grumpy old lady. Her customer care and service was a 0. However, the other 2 were pleasant to work with.
Gary Pratt
Nice facility, friendly staff, do yourself a favor and review a few different animals online before showing up as it will speed up the process.
Mileek Davis
My doggie had a spayed surgery complication didn’t find out till three days after adopting luckily I was able to take her back and they’re going to fix her for free. I was so worried. I’m just afraid it was done properly the first time and she was properly taken care as she should when first given it.

One of the saddest days is when you have to say goodbye to your fur baby! Our 21 year old family kitty just wore out. Cinnamon was to go to her vet on Monday but was too sick to through the weekend! Thank you Kristin for getting us in for an appointment! I cannot say enough about the wonderful, caring & awesome employees! Thank you !
Melissa Burrell
Poor Animal's but thankful for this dog pound because all 600 plus Animal's would probably not be so lucky SO PLEASE ADOPT A CAT OR DOG DON'T MILL BUY OR BE UNRESPONSIBLE AND NOT spay or neuter your pets please it saves pets lives! This pound had a special going on 25$ for all adoptions because they are at max capacity and it's clean and very friendly staff thanks for all your HELP THIS IS A LABOR OF LOVE WHAT YOU DO, AND WE APPRECIATE ALL YOU DO
Francisco Garcia
It's like any other county animal pound. The people that work there and nice and very helpful. It is organized for the most part. I did notice birds get into the buildings where the animals stay.
Roxanne Smyser
I went to the animal shelter a couple of times before I found my beloved furry friend.
The process can be time consuming due to the staff/animal ratio but they do a great job organizing their shelter considering their resources. I am forever grateful to this place because of how much I love my dog.
Shelter animals have a variety of outcomes but they provide a 30 day return policy with no questions asked if needed. Fortunately, my furry friend will never go back.
Linda Escobedo-Cruz
This is where we got our fur baby Belladona from! And she is an absolute wonderful pet! Smart , cute and friendly. I couldn't have gotten a better dog anywhere else.
Derrick Dion
The staff was extremely friendly and make sure you find a pet suitable for you. The facility was very clean and the animals seemed very well taken care of. I adopted a white German Sheppard and even night one he was a perfect fit for our family. If we decide to adopt another it will be through them. Thank you for our new addition.

I always find it bittersweet when I visit animal shelters. I'm an avid animal lover and want to rescue every animal at these places. While I know that's not realistic, I do find comfort in knowing how well the animals here are taken care of. Staff was visible and checking in on all the animals. They were walking them and getting outside time. The water bowls were full, the beds had blankets. There's your typical animal smell, but if you have a problem with that you probably shouldn't own a pet. I'll definitely be back and continue to support MCACC.
Sonja Garcia
It's always hard to leave all those fur babies without a loving lap to lay on. But im happy I was able to go and experience seeing them and possibly taking one home.
josephine romo
The staff there ate AMAZING they work so hard and are very helpful any time you need them. The fur baby's thr r well taken care of. Thank you all‼️💙💜 …
Kai Hamilton
The people here are so caring and so concerned about the welfare of animals. I adopted a pet there on December 13th and she unfortunately had a lot of trauma. She had gotten pepper sprayed by PD. Her name was Cayenne and I think they may have named her that because of her experience.I was worried about how she would be at my house and with my other dog. They required us to bring the dog in to meet her because of the trauma she had been through. Their meeting was amazing and they got a long perfectly. when she got to the house she was like a different dog. She was so comfortable and all her fears and anxieties went away. I really appreciate the people at Maricopa County animal Care and how they helped us through this process. PS. I changed her name from Cayenne to Vashti.
leah Errickson
My puppy came home with kennel cough and my other dogs got sick. My 13 yr old has pneumonia and breathing for her life. And, big vet bill already. And I got pneumonia and had to call 911 for an ambulance.
mike jacobs
I volunteer here whenever I have extra time. The volunteers that help here are some of the best. So many dogs come in and they do the best they can with what resources they have to get these dogs saved and adopted out. My latest dog actually came from here and he is by far the best dog I've ever had. So if you're looking to adopt try here first. They can have upwards of 500 dogs so finding your new best friend won't be that difficult.
Alma Leal
They're asking for money to drop off an animal! There's so many homeless dogs?
Peter Dunlap
Very clean facility. Staff was over the top friendly, helpful, and great.
Went looking for a lost pet. So helpful getting a report filed, resources available, looked for her, just great. Wasn't there, but impressed with whole experience.
Larry Frye
One of the best staff I've ever been around I will adopt my next dog there!!!!!
Frank Bunny
What a great experience. Impressive the number of helpful people that keep the shelter clean and see all pets available for adoption. Good to see a lot of people looking to adopt.
Eric Sandley
I have adopted two awesome dogs from this shelter. The staff and volunteers are very friendly and make the adoption process easy and fun. There are too many great dogs up for adoption at the shelter, I don't know why anyone would get one from a breeder. The prices are very reasonable. Adopt one today!
Cambrae Harris
This people have a great organization going here. Signed up as a volunteer and I'm excited to begin working with all these lovely animals (and people). This facility wants nothing more than to educate new pet owners and provide care to those animals. This facility is well organized and maintained. Great work guys!
Mike M
The staff here are beyond incredible. They have welcomed us on many occasions, they are always nice. If your looking for your next fur baby please be sure to stop by and take a look. Give these homeless babies a place to feel safe.

Sunday I read a craigslist ad regarding a dog named Scrappy. Senior dog who was scheduled to be put down. I called and inquired about him then drove an hour to see him for compatibility. To be completely forward, the ad didnt mention some hefty medical concerns, nor did it mention he has 4 bites on record. Also failed to mention hes not good with kids or smaller dogs, nor did the lady on the phone mention any of these things upfront... I'm going to suggest, if you have to drive a distance, ask them to be completely upfront about all concerns with the animal you're considering adopting.
That said, I did go back Monday and was set up in a room with him by ourselves. I spent a good hour and a half with him with no interruptions or nagging to hurry up. In the end adopting him was a quick 10 minute process at the front desk. They include a collar and license the dog in the process which was nice. Overall fairly pleased with the shelter.
Erin Bayless
The dog I got there seemed like she wasn't use to having water available to her. She also had been on a short leash in the pen and at first was fine with laying in her own pee. I feel.like maybe they are to short staffed for the amount of animals they have. I feel like the people there care about the animals, but maybe there aren't enough people to tend to all the animals.
Shawna Nicole
We are so grateful for MCACC! We lost our dog, Bruno, unexpectedly in March. A week later, we attended an adoption event just to look. There was one dog that caught our attention because she wasn't barking at us. We decided to meet her and it was love at first sight! She was a number, not a name. That day, she became Sigrid. The adoption process was easy but it was right before COVID protocols went into effect. We are considering adding to our family soon and will definitely be looking here.
Vanity Fair
I adopted two dogs at this shelter, each was about six months old. One for my husband and one for me. I loved them both. My beautiful Chow Chow was the love of my life and I had her for 13 years. She was the best dog, loving and smart and I don't have the words to describe my feelings for her. My husbands dog was awesome too and he lived 12 years. To ensure their health we took them directly to our own vet for clearance on their state of health. I don't like the treatment animals get at shelters, however, the shelters are overcroweded and under employed so we really can't put all our trust in the shelter's evaluation of our pets, although I believe they do what they can. It is up to each one of us as pet owners to ensure our new pets health and take it to a family vet. As in any purchase we need to take responsibility. I would only get my animals from a shelter as they are in a dreaded position and they do know you are saving their life. Best to all of you who adopt. I found my heart in this shelter.
VSONNY
Great place. as clean as can be the staff are sweethearts. Had an incident and I was treated w compassion and sympathy. I will be back to adopt another dog
krystune kaska
I had the best experience at this shelter. The staff was so friendly and helpful. We had our eyes on a couple of the dogs and they brought each dog out to meet us and one bonded so quickly with us and he has been the perfect companion since. I would recommend these guys to everyone!! Good job 👍 …
Cynthia Simpson
I went to the shelter a few times this wk. Hoping to find the right dog for our family. It was very clean. I liked that i met with the same staff member (BETH) who helped me last year with the adoption of our 8yr old male Lab. Diabetes ended up taking his life two days shy of celebrating our 1yr anniversary with our wonderful BUCK. Although I walked away with no dog this time. I'm sure we will be back soon.
Jennifer Dawn
They do an amazing job here at the shelter. The dogs arw well taken care of. They are knowledgeable about each dog.
Deborah Cruse
When I first heard that there were 400 dogs in the shelter my heart broke !!!;what a relief when I got there to see how well they look after the dogs! Very organized with about 95% adoption rate.
Getting a rescue REALLY WARMS YOUR HEART - & the babies remember, it was YOU WHO RESCUED THEM!!! Never take their eyes off of you!!!;
Unfortunately the shelter was very loud with that many dogs... maybe one day we'll build a shelter that's soundproof wouldn't THAT BE NICE!!!
Jennifer Goodman
I went to MCACC to look at dogs and found an amazing dog I adopted. During my visit, I was extremely impressed with the facilities and the volunteers. The facilities were clean and the animals had decent amounts of space to themselves. The animals also didn't appear as stressed as I've seen them at other facilities. The volunteers have so much passion for helping these animals and will go the extra mile to help an animal and incoming potential adopters. All in all, a great experience. We love our little Consuela!
Nicole Kridler
I brought my dog here and the people were very helpful and respectful of our situation. However, I was told that my dog would be evaluated by a behavior trainer and I found out that they put her down the next morning. I cant help but feel lied to. Not sure she ever even had a chance. She wasn't even there 1 day. 😢 …
Carrie Colvin
I was thrilled with how every part of my adoption was handled. I walked in an told them my kittens name, without a pause, the gal at the desk knew his details. The facility is beautifully taken care of and everyone is so friendly and helpful. Thank y'all so much for getting Joey into my home!
Cathy Sohl
Found my new best friend here last month. Staff very helpful and obviously enjoy working with animals. The staff provided detailed notes regarding his fearfulness and lack of socialization to make sure I was willing to take on his special needs. They also provided encouragement and tips on how to best help him settle in and feel safe. A staff member sat with my grandson and me in a quiet room for 15-20 minutes to do a meet and greet with Max to see if he would be a good fit for my family. He remains hypervigilant but has made huge progress and he is now my new walking buddy. I have a feeling he would have been put on the euthanasia list in the near future, because of his lack of socialization, but I'm confident that he will eventually become the dog he was meant to be. I can't say enough about the amazing, caring staff and volunteers at the west side county shelter.
Nida Stone
Rescued a great dog, staff is very friendly and helpful. This place is awesome. Thank you for helping these animals to find homes!
Alex Summers
I have to say, I’m very happy with MCACC. I had to quarantine my dog and they made sure that they did everything they could to make sure that she was taken care of. I’m especially happy with one employee, Tina who went above and beyond and helped get in touch with AZ Pet Project and find a boarding place for my dog while I look for a new place to move to. Without her help I would have had to get rid of my dog or even worse, have to put her down. I’m extremely grateful for Tina and everyone at MCACC for their understanding and help!
Sharon Lara
The staff was very friendly , Patient and knowledgeable. Christine was awesome helping me set up lost dog Report.
Audrey Kinsel
I recently adopted a bulldog named Baby from here. He was flagged for being rough but he is literally THE BIGGEST sweetheart we have ever had the pleasure to adopt! He is amazing with our 3 and 5 year olds and he is AWESOME with other dogs. He has various health issues, but it was to be expected as he is 6 years old. I am so thankful for MACC for bringing us together! The staff was very friendly and very knowledgable. The facility was clean and comfortable. Very pleasant experience all the way around.
Angela
Looking forward to seeing the strays find their forever homes.
Cierra Charbonneau
I just adopted my dog Jasper from here on the day that Bissell was funding adoptions at certain shelters. My baby is such a sweet boy. When I received his paperwork it said everything came back negative and he was ready to go. Two days later after taking him home, I found nearly 13 ticks on him. I emailed the shelter because I was very upset and disappointed that they neglected to see/treat this. They said that they really wouldn't do anything. I have the money to pay for my dog, I SPOIL him. But my concern was for his health. He was in there for nearly a month with those things and they didn't do anything about it. Besides this situation, they were great in every other aspect. This was in 2017. I wrote my review for their Tempe/Mesa shelter and am correcting it. I adopted my dog from the Maricopa West Shelter.
Nick
Please come down and adopt a dog or cat today. A lot of the cats have their fees sponsored, meaning they're completely free. Just come down and collect your new best friend. These guys are friendly, outgoing, happy animals.. and that's just the staff! The dogs and cats are in great shape and clearly well cared for here. All they need now is you!
Roo Vallejo
I've been to both locations and staff in both the west and east locations were so nice and helpful! I've gotten my emotional support dog from the east, and my service dog from the west. There's tons of dogs there, so please head to one of these places if you're looking to adopt a lost or unwanted baby :)
Brenda Straus
Nice and quick to get rabies shot for our one dog. Our regular vet wanted another office call of $65 + rabies price. Walked in paid the fee, license renewal and got shot. Out in less than a half hour.
Bing Dorst
We adopted our dog 3 years ago after visiting many facilities around the valley. We were shocked we found this one basically empty. There were only a handful of dogs left.
It turned out that they had a big donation and were able to adopt all their pit bulls the day before because it was national pit bull day. The pits were fixed and up to date with shots.
We were so impressed we had to get our dog there. So we left with a catte dog mix. We were happy overall. They mentioned his missing teeth AFTER we had signed the papers, thus the 4 stars. The people there are very nice and caring.
Allen Stolze
Great place for a large selection of breeds. Adoption is easy and straight forward, but it can take awhile if they straight crowded. You can get a bargain of dogs have been there longer than 7days or if the animal has been at shelter for a full weekend.
Jason A. Martinez
Very busy, get there at opening or before. All employees/volunteers are great. Helpful, friendly, and nice. At times lines were long but they went at a good pace.
Derrick Roberts
Picked up a great wonderful old dog of about 10 years. I know it’s not necessarily forever for me, but for him, I’m sure it means the world.
Dale Hall
How do you give doggie jail a good review? If you are there to pick up your animal it can be a good experience.
The staff are very dedicated and understanding.
Russ Cummings
Please go here before adopting from a breeder, mall pet shop, or other puppy mills. Save a faithful pet!
Tammy Antunez
Went to get my pup licensed and shots these place is amazing and very knowledgeable about everything when it comes to animals
Kaylee Day
I met my new kitty here yesterday. I am so happy with this place.
The entire building is clean and the staff is very friendly.
Before I took her home, they did an exam to make sure she was healthy. Upon finding a respiratory infection, they gave me medicine to give her. All not costing me anything.
Thank you for letting me take home my new baby!!!
Sonja Carden
We've adopted one of our dogs from MCCAC West back in 2017. The process was easy, actually too easy to if you ask me. No questions about our living situation etc. Found that very surprising...
Went there again a few weeks ago to turn in a dog that I've found wandering around in traffic. This time I was asked all kinds of questions (For example: What kind of dog is he? Is he housebroken? Is he food aggressive?) It wasn't even my dog so how am I supposed to know all this?
I know the staff doesn't have an easy job and the shelter is always full but I wish they would be more thorough when adopting out a dog.
Kate Staab
This was my first time going to this shelter. I was kinda confused when I first walked in because there were two lines of people and it was a different layout from other shelters i've been to. I asked a worker what I was supposed to do if i wanted to view the cats and she told me exactly where to go.
When i had more questions, I saw other workers/volunteers walking by and they didn't hesitate to stop and answer them.
Very helpful. Especially being able to have the one on one with the cat. They provided information right away about the cat, unlike another shelter I went to.
I would like to state that the checking out process did take a long time but i appreciate the people being upfront about how things work and information about the cat so I am still giving them 5stars.
Thank you!
Jennifer Jones
We adopted this sweet girl on Thursday. The process was fast and easy. We got to do a meet and greet before hand. Once we decided to take her the adoption process was fast and simple. So glad to have added "Miss Maybell" to our family 💖 …

We adopted BEAR at the west kennel, and he’s adorable , he even gives hugs 💜 the staff there was very helpful and the service was fast. Please Adopt and save a life 🐕 …

We recently lost our pet to cancer. It was a heart-breaking experience that was intensified at the thought of the treatment we might receive a facility referred to by many as "the pound", a phrase that could make even the heartless cringe.
My to our relief and comfort, the staff at the Maricopa County Animal Care and Control center were amazingly compassionate and sympathetic to our loss. We can not begin to express just how wonderful it was to know that someone cared.
Thank you so much for being the fantastic people that you are!
Maureen Malingkas
We were so blessed to have found and rescued Mac Keju our little maltipoo from Maricopa Animal Care and Control. They have friendly staff and the facilities are clean and one of the nicest shelters I have been to. We made an appointment online and were quickly able to be seen. When we came back to pick up Mac after the hold, it was an easy process to retrieve him and during that time they gave away free doggie pools! I recommend saving a life here!
Mike Sanchez
We adopted our pup about 2 months ago, staff was very helpful even on the wild free adoption event.
Our pup did have kennel cough after we got him home but that's not uncommon with a shelter dog. We were given a paper for a free vet examine with him so just paid the $50 or so for antibiotics and he's been great since! For the volume they receive and being a city shelter the kennels are definitely well kept.
Will actually be returning tomorrow to see if we can find our new pup a four legged friend.
To all the negative reviews remember this is a shelter that receives animals in all ways possible. That being said remember it is nearly impossible for every staff member to know everything about the animals you're looking at. The staff we worked with did genuinely care for them even if they didn't know everything about the animal.
Christina Mayfield
Their appointment protocol was seamless, and their covid-19 precautions are executed with precision. Throughout my visit each employee I encountered was very pleasant and helpful. Facility was very spacious and clean.
Lauren W.
I've gotten two dogs from here. My last dog I got here was the most expensive I've ever paid. When I looked at their site a few months later I noticed that it said puppies under six months are $150. Then why was I charged $350?? I didn't want to pay that but my husband saw the connection the puppy and I had. They couldn't even give me her breed. Saying she's a chihuahua mix with lab maybe. She does not look like your typical chihuahua (thankfully). I just don't get why it was $350. And it was on the weekend of dogs a year or older being $20.
I love both my dogs but still a bit ticked about the price especially because she ended up having kennel cough.
Roberto P
Clean and organized. So many dogs need loving. More volunteers needed. Update... After many trips and by fate I found my little princess Pebbles. After a owner returning her the day after she was adopted I found her. She is in training and has so much energy but the most loving and affectionate girl we could have. Thanks shelter for the help on letting me get her home for the day. That's all I needed to make up my mind.
teri gordon
Everyone was so nice, and professional. Ohmygoodness it didn't stink, it actually smelled pleasant! I adopted a new addition to our little family😺 …
Stephanie Joey's Girl Jiles
The place is set up nice but it was hard to find a small dog there due to the dogs being all over and not separated. They looked taken care of but the dog we brought home won't stop sneezing. She gave what ever it is to the dog I already had. She is going to her free vet visit they supply so we shall see if she is ok then.
Nick Gutermuth
I recently adopted a red husky from here and tho the staff was nice and polite. They didn't inform me of the massive tick problem he has, still waiting to see if they will accept responsibility for this and take care of it or make it my problem
Update: they gave me some antibiotics for the cough and said they treated for ticks so they should die off soon.
Jerrod Nile
The staff oh let me tell you they are some of the best animal loving and caring people ever met in my life for the way the poor animal get there they try so dang hard to make over 500 animals, every day feel loved and to me that is the single most, best thing that those poor animals need! From beds to food to the own pick of toys to play with or chew! There situation is so, so sad but! The staff does everything in their power and positions to do the best for animals and humans it's, remarkable the loyalty to the animal and themselves in general. God bless them for what they do!
Laura Reiley
I've adopted a couple of dogs from here. They do well with the resources they have and the volunteers are always helpful.
Kendy Torrex
I am so impressed that they have added little cots for the doggies to sleep on instead of that cold concrete that was giving them kennel cough. You will either leave really happy or broken hearted. The employees are extremely helpful and you can tell they absolutely care about each and every furry friend. I wish more people would come adopt these sad babies.
On Facebook someone posted a picture of the dogs in black bags after they have been put to sleep. It is the worst image I've ever seen.
Please come save these innocent pets.
Al Harbison
People were really friendly here! They take you to locate the exact pet that you're looking for. The day that I went in I was free adoption day for almost any dog they had in there. With a free adoption you also got the free tags. Also weather tags you got all the shots that the dogs needed. You also received a free microchip, so if your dogs ever got lost they be able to find where they live. They gave away free food for your pet so you would have food right away. The giveaways for the kids there as well. It was ice cream, lollipops and light up Neon strips. It was a good day they're at the shelter because a lot of pets got adopted. And now they're going to get prepared for the 4th of July when a lot of dogs run from their house because of the idiots who lights firecrackers
Alison Huynh
Staff on the floor is very patient and helpful. Front desk is stressed and in a rush. I adopted a 2-yr-old sweet parson terrier mix. He's slowly getting along with my female 10-yr-old English bull dog but we are happy to have him.
Kate McKenna
We went to look at a dog we had seen online. Very impressed with the place. It is clean & modern & the people working/volunteering there were pleasant. They obviously loved the cats & dogs.
Laurel Andrew
Clean, organized facility. Even though up this facility is very large and houses hundred and hundreds of puppies, dogs, Kittens and cats the facility is clean and the workers and staff are friendly and willing to help you find your forever pet. I was very impressed and lucky enough to find my new family pet.
Debbie Edwards
This was the first time we attend the "clear up space " I believe it was called in the Animal Control Division of Maricopa County. The facility was clean, kennels were clean and staff were so helpful. We ended up adopting two 6 year old cats and can not thank Laurie enough for making our experience ever so wonderful
Debi D
"yolanda" on her first night. She is loving it here.
Cindy Casas
After looking online at their 50+ pages I found my dog Princess. They charged me $152.00 to get her outta there and with a chip inside her. So worth the money. Because they only keep the dog for 3 days then they are put for adoption. All the people working in there are Gods angels. Because of them I now can sleep at night because I'm reunited with my dog.
Vitaly
I recently started volunteering here and got to see the backend of the care being put into maintaining the staggering number of dogs (and a few cats) which are housed here. The staff truly do care for the animals whether they are on the payroll or not (volunteers). They can always use help of any nature as well as homes for the pets. Those going through the adoption process I only suggest patience, it is well worth it (have seen several happy people with their selected furbabies).
Patricia Cross
Love the animals. Got my dog her rabies shots and registered. Pretty fast for a very busy day for them. They keep it pretty clean so none of us or our pets get sick. Adopt From here. I got great animals over the years.
Mayra Gonzalez
My family and I decided to adopt a dog we adopted a beautiful female Duchshund. We saw her since the weekends but she's was not available until Wednesday. We went early in the morning to adopt her, but we that the process was different. I think that the worked should take in consideration to ask the family to bring in there family dog to see if the will bond. Now I have to separate both dog at the moment hopefully they can bond better thought the time the week ends.
Sheala McWilliams
The people that work here are very helpful, despite having a lot of people and animals to deal with. They are very polite and had the answers to all my questions. I loved seeing all the dogs, and being able to interact with them. All in all, this is a place I’d go to adopt all my animals
Kat Jones
Clean environment, dogs all had water, the buildings housing them were not hot. Staff was very helpful in helping me find a dog I had seen online. Staff went through all reports on the dog, and the volunteer did as well, very knowledgeable.
Menchie Martinez
I thought I'm gonna lost my baby girl today but people in Maricopa County Animal Shelter are so great! They help you if you can't hardly give your pet the medication they need. They refer us to the doctor for free. Thank you and greatly appreciated
Tamara Langston
It was a great experience to see how much they help with making sure they do everything they can to reunite us with our animals. But it was very sad as well. I wanted to take all the dogs home.
Robin Sprague
Drive 2.75 hours to shelter and dig we wanted literally adopted 3 min before we got there. Not their fault. But very disappointing.
Very clean, very organized.
Blue Evolution
The holidays are the best and worst time to come. Best for the amazing deals...worst for the lines...sorry it's not a secret...but you got a healthy friend and microchipped and neutered. For dirt cheap
J Simmons
Bittersweet experience. I did not find a pup compatible with my lifestyle, but it was so very sad to see the number of unwanted cats and dogs. If people came to visit this place, they would probably think twice about buying from a breeder. There are some amazing animals here, but sadly, many abused ones.
Eddy P
I adopted a wonderful pitbull there. I'm not a huge fan of pitbulls typically but, she is so loving! I can't tell she was abused before the pound rescued her but she's rehabilitating extremely well! The staff went WAY out of their way for me to get the best dog for my needs and I LOVE how they play classical music in the kennels. Nice touch!
Oralia Maas
Animal were kept clean, feed, cages were kept ok, some cages were left open and I reported a dog who's cage was not closed yet the dog was scary, acted like he wanted to bit me, I felt very uncomfortable knowing that the dog could get out if he pushed on the gate. The dog I was interested in, I was told was on his way out had been adopted. Areas D, E, were not led enough, and dogs were barking so much I got scared and left area.
Paul Mee
Picked up a new dog for the family. Adult 8 year old female which had anxiety at the shelter. Now she has come out of her shell and plays all the time. I love shelter dogs. Faithful and they always remember who saved them!
Sandra D
Naturally a very busy establishment, however all the staff is incredbly nice & patient. You can tell they have love for all animals which is very comforting. I took my mom to adopt a dog, her experience was very pleasant. Being there seeing everyone's dedication to these furry beings made us decide to try to donate food & supplies. They have days where you can adopt for reduced prices. Spread the word please many 🐕&🐈 need rehoming.
Deightah
Very friendly staff.
The inmates here need your help, love and support.
Come let a cat own you.
Experience the extreme loyalty of a dog.
Heather Nelson
Cindy, Beth and all of the other wonderful employees & volunteers here are irreplaceable. Especially if you have to make the very difficult decision to surrender a pet.
Their expertise & compassion are priceless. It's a clean, well run facility that provides comfort and hope. I'm so grateful in my time of despair that I had the divine assistance of Cindy.
Gavin Trella
I adopted a senior Pit Bull from MCACC West In 2018. The place is not glamorous by any means but the staff was friendly, patient, and helpful. It’s obvious that they care about the animals and there are great social media pages (as shelter pets, and mcacc west adoptable dogs) that work constantly to provide outreach for the dogs.
I went in multiple times and brought a friend’s dog for a visit and the volunteers made that as easy as possible, even watching my friends dog while we checked out the sheer amount of buildings and dogs :-(
The happy ending to this is that now I have a dog that I love and I’m very thankful that she was taken care of long enough for me to find her there. I highly recommend giving consideration to the seniors (especially if you’re a busy person) and finding out how rewarding it is to give an older dog a second chance at life. It’s been a months now and I have no regrets and my dog has been nothing if not a blessing.

Friendly staff. We adopted 2 kitties. Both are doing better than their description said they would.

Wonderful, spacious kennels. Caring staff and a large meet and greet area to find your new family member. Dogs are comfortable and not overly stressed in the kennels and it has a nice, clean and bright atmosphere.
Katrina Campbell
Its clean. Staff is sort of nonchalant. We were the only ones in the waiting area, and they told us to take a number.
Anyway, web adopted a precios all black 10 year old cat. She's adorable. We're smitten with her.

Everyone was super nice and helpful. Sorry we could only adopt 1 puppy, but we already have a house ful from prior visits there. This is Casey and she is loving her new home with all 9 cats and 5 other dogs

Very kind. I wish I could donate more.

We came on a free adoption day and there was at least 500 people here to adopt either a dog or cat. It took about 5 hours to do a meet and greet and to do the adoption paperwork. We had to wait in 2 separate lines for each instance which seemed a little unorganized. They had only 2 registers to help the 500+ people check out. I guess this is what happens when you get pets for free 🙂

Staff works with animals as best as they can. Shelter is at full capacity. They however have more animals in lost and found than they do for adoption. So if your missing your pet check here for it. They keep it clean for everyone, including the animals and could use some more volunteers

We've gotten 2 of our dogs from here. I appreciate all they do!

We found a dog on the side of the road while taking our dogs to get shots, and it was time consuming, but getting the dog we found to safety was more important to me anyway. They were nice, and saw that the other dogs around kind of mad my dog react, even though she was ready to play with them, they made it safe for all the dogs just in case.

They're very kind and the place is nice 🙂 …

I found a stray dog and Maricopa county animal control came to my house and picked her up. After the dog's 72hr hold was over (to see if the owner claims the dog) I adopted the dog from their 27th ave location in Phoenix. Their facility and staff are amazing. I couldn't be happier of how the whole situation was conducted. They even delivered the dog back to me on Xmas eve as Santa and an elf. Maricopa county animal control is awesome:-)

Everyone was nice and friendly. Picked up a nice dog for my daughter.

There are over 350 dogs here. I just adopted 2 and wish i could take more. Many are so sweet and loving. There was one rude woman the first day i was there but everyone else was kind. The shelter is attended to very well.

Poor shelter was at full capacity with almost 90% of their dogs being a pit bull mix. But you do have to check them out as you can get lucky and find your forever friend. They take great care of their charges.

It is sad so many wonderful companions end up locked up in cages but I was very impressed on how the staff truly want them to find good homes and treat them with love and care until they do. Note: they have a wish list wish with Amazon so let's all help give they wonderful animals a nice bed, blanket and toy to play with while they wait for you to take them home.

We adopted Misty 3 years ago from the West Valley and Riley (Argon) from the East Valley. They both were strays and bonded so well, they are inseparable. Both are great dogs and we couldn’t be happier. They are super spoiled and love going in the pool.

Very good service we got a dog from there we love our pet ..thank you for the service !

It depends on which location you stop into. The location in Tempe is small. The kennels are especially small and the staff seemed a little standoffish.
The location in Phoenix is much nicer. The kennels are a decent size. The animals seem happier. The staff was patient and more than friendly.

We adopted our Alli from here and were treated good. I'm thankful for all they do here.

Clear the shelter event is a great way to get an amazing animal at a fair price, but i was deliberately LIED to about the condition of my dog. I was told she just had dirt in her ears when they knew it was a bad bacterial infection. If i had paid the full adoption price, i would have been beyond furious and looked at legal options

My dog was taken their after getting out. Went there to pick her up and everyone was very nice and accommodating! Which helped to alleviate my anxiety, which was high given the situation.

We got our fur baby about 3 weeks ago. He is amazing. The staff was very nice and helpful. Jordan who helped us was sweet and never made us feel rushed or pressured.

I have high regards for the shelter. I went there to drop off a big donation abase leashes collars blankets towels and so forth, they were very busy inside took me a half hour to find somebody to tell me where I can take my donations to and no one to assist me it took me six trips back and forth to my car to drop off the stuff off and nobody to talk to. But I still say thank you for the work you do

Unfortunately we had a family cat that passed away and needed to find somewhere to drop off the remains. They were very nice and was able to take the body. Only a $15 charge. That's much cheaper then any other places you will find. Thanks for having caring workers.
