My 2 year old golden retriever lucky got the best care I could possibly ask for. The entire staff was very attentive , explained everything thoroughly. Unfortunately we came in for a sick visit but everyone made the friendly giant feel comfortable and happy again. I would highly recommend this location for urgent vet care. They practice great covid protocols and also kept me updated through out his visit while I remained near by!

Highly recommend EMMA Vet. I called them Saturday evening to make an appointment on Sunday morning as my regular vet is closed on weekends and my dog needed to see a vet ASAP. Everyone was very nice and my greyhound received excellent care. They provide a good follow up after my greyhounds visit to check on the progress of her injury. The veterinarian and veterinarian assistant were highly competent.

We decided to start using EMMAvet for our newly adopted dog due to their convenient location and referral from another local vet that couldn’t accommodate new patients. We took him for a wellness checkup, so we cannot comment on illness or wellness services, but we had no complaints regarding our first visit. We arrived for our appointment and were taken into a room within just a few minutes. Our dog, Otto, was taken into the back for his exam and didn’t seem nervous at all. All of the vets and employees were friendly, professional, and made Otto very comfortable! Dr. Gardiner was very thorough and answered all of our questions. We will definitely be going back and are even considering switching to this vet for our cat.

I have experienced more then 7 different Vets/Emergency Rooms and honest to god I’ve never seen this amount of care and compassion come from anyone. Jessie is the best, even though they were too busy to take me in, she stayed on the phone with me to make sure everything is okay and helped me take care of my puppy in the mean time. She knew they were too busy and it’s not like they were about to make money from me, regardless she helped me much more then I can ever help her. Then she went and called the vets around the area (that have no association with them) to see if she can get him in ASAP. She honestly did not have to do all of that every single place I called said “ hey sorry were backed up I’ll put u on the list, bye” but she went above and beyond and for that I’m forever grateful. Those selfless acts is what separates her from the rest.Thanks Jessie again. <3 This is Leroy, he is 1 year old and 4 pounds.

A great place for urgent pet care when your regular vet is unavailable. Reasonable rates and hours. Transmitted results to our vet quickly and followed up with us after the visit. We're repeat customers and trust them to make the right decisions about our dogs.

My dog ate mouse poison and I needed to take him to an emergency vet immediately since it was after hours and my regular vet was closed. The staff here are wonderful. They took my dog back right away and proceeded to pump his stomach while I talked to poison control. The vet techs came out regularly to update me on what was going on and to let me know that my dog was going to be ok (so thankful). I really appreciate the attention, communication, and level of care that my dog received during our visit here. I highly recommend EMMAvet for any emergency/urgent care vet needs.

Cinnamon loves her vet. And her human does too. We switched to Emmavet after a frustrating experience at another vet. I love that they both know her and love her. They listen to me and approach her care in a way that brings me peace of mind. I love that they always check in on her a day or two after an acute care visit to be sure she's improving and offer a line of communication for any concern without coming back in. Very available and responsive. And being an urgent care facility is always a plus with a Golden that occasionally gets into something she shouldn't. :)

Because my cat had not been eating normally for a few days I sought an emergency vet that could see him right away and EMMAvet came through, to my everlasting gratitude. The whole staff, from the person who answered the phone and instructed me clearly on procedure, to the person who received my cat at the door, to the thorough and professional care of Dr. Wootton, treated me and my cat with respect, care and attention. I watched also as attendants received other animals with gentle affection. I have decided to continue to bring my cat to this wonderful practice. I am glad to have found them.

Such good care of our pups. My last visit was with Beau after he had a cut to lower eyelid. Got us in that evening and everyone in the office was wonderful. Had a previous visit with our 2 older dogs - they both had upper respiratory infections. After we took one in, and said we had another at home experiencing the same, they squeezed her in for treatment same day. Definitely recommend and would return.

The service at EMMAvet is like no other. Until now, I have never had a vet reach out frequently to see how our cat is doing after our visit. The staff cares! Our Pancakes is almost 18 and has several medical issues. Dr. Wooten is very attentive, listens to us, and always appropriately responds to our needs. We travel from Southern MD for the best vet we have ever had!

My doctor doesn’t get me in at the last minute, my doctor doesn’t tell me how cute I am, my doctor doesn’t scratch behind my ears or pet me to calm me down, my doctor doesn’t take time to explain anything or answer all my questions, my doctor doesn’t give me treats, my doctor doesn’t have a Keurig machine or really nice office staff. My dog has a way better doctor than I do.

Saved our dog’s life. The team took our dog in late at night, when they didn’t have to, and literally saved our dog’s life. The vet explained the pros and cons of our options and answered all our questions. The entire staff was incredibly kind. And they went above and beyond to set us up with an overnight hospital, calling around to see who would take our dog for the night, which saved us from an incredible amount of stress and delaying our dog’s treatment. This will be my go to vet moving forward.

Brought my puppy to be looked at because he had a cough and was not himself and our regular vet couldn’t see him for several days. Dr Nolan came out to the car and diagnosed the issue, thoroughly explained all options, what follow up care was needed and how to dispense the medication. Super friendly and attentive. We had a dire situation with our furbaby, and EMMAvet was there to get us through it. The doctor and staff were polite and friendly, and the facility had a nice comfortable design. The services were excellent, and the price was lower than expected. We had to call back a few times after being discharged as additional symptoms presented themselves, and the staff remained patient and willing to assist. If you have an emergency, I highly recommend contacting EMMAvet.

EMMAvet provided exceptional care when I needed urgent care for my dog. They called me back in the window they gave me earlier in the day. From the front desk, to the nurse, and Dr. Nolan, all were professional and caring. I will be switching to EMMAvet for my dog’s primary care.

I was referred to EMMAVet for my dogs eye issue. They give you a window between 3 pm and 9 pm for a call back to bring your pet in. I was called at 8:30 and given the option to come in as first client the next day, which I chose. They are still practicing COVID precautions, so you have to wait in your car after dropping off your pet. The Dr was great, she called me to talk about the issue and noticed another issue I wasn’t aware of. Before we left they set up another appointment to recheck, we were going out of town and I explained I was having difficulty getting an appointment with our regular vet. They rechecked her, the Dr called with an update and instructions for further care. I would recommend them for emergencies, just have patience’s, you are seen according to importance of your pets issue.

We are so very happy with EMMAvet. We began using this clinic for after-hours / weekend issues a few years ago, and when they expanded we made the big switch so they're our primary care vet too. We are VERY experienced vet clients and I'm the happiest I've ever been in terms of feeling our pets are in good hands. Right now it seems most vet practices are having trouble retaining staff, and the stress seeps into the client experience. That does not seem to be happening here, and instead the vibe is calm/professional. Feeling really lucky to have this place nearby!

EMMAvet is a truly great vet. I see Dr. Wooten for my cat, and she is the best. My cat has had terrible skin issues for years and Dr. Wooten finally helped me figure out what it was - she tested my kitty for allergies. We've been working closely to find the right treatment since. Ive never had to wait more than a week or two for an appt. And the emergency vet is great too which I've also had to use. They always send detailed vet notes and a detailed invoice to your email. And if you have questions, you can email back and they will actually respond. Highly recommend EMMAvet for your pet!

Oh my goodness! This place is awesome. Staff is friendly and helpful. They don't take advantage of you by doing unnecessary test that lead to exorbitant cost. Affordable prices. My vet sent me to Emmavet because they didn't have any appointments available. This will be the place I go when my regular vet is not available. My 13 year dog is eating again and is on the way to recovering from his illness.

Everyone was wonderful taking care of Kolby! I really love that they called the next day to check on him! The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is the cost. It was going to cost me ~$1000 for labs and and a scan; and unfortunately they don’t accept any pet insurance. Otherwise the quality of care was amazing.

I am in Alexandria visiting family from out of town. One of our dogs has been having an ongoing issue that became worse the day we left. Our vet back home thought it necessary to seek medical intervention for Teddy before our return home next week. EMMAvet was excellent!! They added us to their list for the evening and called us at home when it was time to come in. The vet tech and Dr. Nolan were thorough and patient. We took my mom’s cat Bonnie to EMMAVet recently after noticing a problem with her eye. We were referred to their urgent care practice by our regular vet. Everyone at EMMAVet was exceptionally supportive, friendly, and calming. The exam was thorough and Dr Nolan carefully explained her diagnostics very carefully and calmly. She provided clear follow up instructions and recommendations for next steps. The nurses and other staff took the time to take vitals. They put both the cat and humans at ease (a tall order on both counts). We would recommend anyone take their pet their for care.

I highly recommend this place in an emergency. Or if you need to establish new care. Next time we have an issue, I will not hesitate to be back. Such a wonderful clinic. My dog Tess was very ill with a stomach bug and I don’t know I needed to make an appointment before showing up but they were so kind to fit me in despite it being just a couple hours before close. They gave her such great care and by the next day she was doing SIGNIFICANTLY better as was I for finally getting some sleep and worry relieved. I had taken my other dog to another emergency vet for the same thing and they didn’t do half the things for him as Emmmavet did. It’s definitely our go-to place from now on!

EMMAVet exceeded my expectations when it came to an urgent care for pets. As a first time kitten owner, we were very on edge about what was normal versus not and ultimately brought our kitten in twice in two weeks for care for her worms. Each time, EMMAVet was understanding, prompt, organized and purely amazing. It’s never fun to have to bring a pet to urgent care but I can truly say that they made me dread the experience a lot less. Because of their system, I was astonished by the lack of wait times and their promptness as you arrive. Along with that, the report they send post visit is super helpful and it is such a nice touch that they follow up the next day and a few days after. It really makes you feel like they care and it made the whole experience from start to finish both times a million times better. Do not hesitate to come here- they are AMAZING

My first encounter with EMMAVet was during an emergency. Like all other facilities they were fully booked. However, EmmaVet was thoughtful and offered me an option. I called back at the start of their shift and they accommodated me that evening with my GSD. I love that they are caring, professional, and transparent. They really do care about your pet’s health. I had a great experience EMMAvet when I had a sick kitty. I called the vet I had used previously, but they couldn't get me in for 4 days. I called EMMAvet and they were able to get me into their urgent care that night. I love that they call you when they are ready to see you so you are not sitting in the waiting room for hours. My kitty did need to be seen that night as her medical condition required immediate intervention. The doctor and staff were kind and explained what needed to happen. I also got a follow up email the next day to see if I had any further questions. I plan to switch both cats to their practice.

5 stars for Dr. Wootton who took special care of our senior cat. She helped us make a make a choice between humane euthanasia and surgery without pressuring us either way. We're glad we chose surgery, which went very smoothly. Our cat is now back home with us and loving her pain meds!

Peanut is a Beautiful Yorkie who is now 13. We started seeing Dr Garnier as soon as EmmaVet added hours for regular Vet visits. For the first time I feel confident that this Vet and everyone there genuinely cares about Mr Peanut. Lately he needs to be seen more often but he remains calm. The most caring, kindest, and empathetic vet! I took my little girl here for an ear hematoma that we had been trying to solve for over a month with another vet. From the moment I came into EmmaVet I knew that the entire staff really loved and cared for animals to include mine. The doctor came in quickly to diagnose and resolved my babies issues with surgery immediately. Since then, the staff has been checking up on us daily and even let me come in to learn how to do a head wrap for no extra cost. I feel welcomed and loved at EmmaVet as does my pet. A compassionate and caring Veterinarian Hospital. Sadly, we had to put our 16 year Border Collie/Sheltie mix to sleep this past week. Our regular vet wasn't available so we opted to use EMMAvet since we have used them in the past. Convenient and timely for urgent care! We brought our dog in for a suspected UTI when of course our regular vet had no openings. Their system is great - they call you when you’re next in line, so you don’t have to wait too long there! I called them at 2pm to ask about services, they told me I could expect a call back between 3:00 and 9:30pm depending on the other pets they were triaging. They called me back at 4:30 to say I could come in, we got there soon after 5, and were out of there around 6:30! Did a urinalysis and gave us antibiotics. Really well-run and convenient for emergencies. Friendly staff who answered all our questions. Of course they upcharge for prescriptions like all vets do, but the prices otherwise were not bad I thought ($150 for the vet consult, $130 for the lab - antibiotics were $130 which was the only part that could’ve been avoided I think, but we’re all there because we want the prescriptions urgently right so it’s always a bit of a pickle!) Great spot for doggie emergencies!

Primary Vet is in Florida, called Tex's former local SoMd Vet for sick appt, no can do for several weeks for 'established patient'. Referred to this practice in NoVa as opposed to the local emergency vet which I consider a last resort having used them previously. Am SO pleased with EMMAvet. Urgent care practice model is brilliant, staff very competent and empathetic. Patient portal is user friendly. Prices are very reasonable compared to Florida, which surprised me. Snowbirding is simple with my dog's electronic medical record from Florida being accessible on their app. Now I have a back up provider here, can get a second opinion on Tex's patellar subluxation which I understand is a Boston thing, and will no doubt progress. I was looking for academic center but this is the first place that offers rehab.

I could not more highly recommend a place to take of/care for, my fur-babies than EMMAVETS. Everyone there was professional, yet very caring, for each one of my two dogs when I needed immediate care for them. When I could not get in to see my regular vet for several days, even though my dog was extremely ill, I turned to EMMAVETS and my dog was seen immediately. The vets are VERY knowledgeable (and VERY caring) and saved my dog’s life. On another occasion, after spending months going to my regular vet for my dog’s eye problem, with no results, I took him to EMMAVETS, where he was diagnosed with a serious condition. We then were immediately referred to a specialist. That referral may very well save some or all of his eyesight. Bottom line, I am sooo grateful to EMMAVETS on so many levels and highly recommend them to everyone who has his/her own fur-babies!

Dr. Garner is amazing. The staff is friendly and professional. My only complaint is that they will charge you more than double for medication if you buy it from them. A pill for my puppy that I could’ve bought online put $2.55 they charged me $5.71 per pill. When I reached out to ask the reason for the price of the pill, all I got was that there was dispensing fee. I think that is ridiculous and abusive. If the doctor prescribes any medication, ask them for a prescription and buy it online.

Our dog ate our guac (which had tons of onions) so we rushed him to Emmavet and they were so good with us and our puppy. They got all the guac out and even called the place we got the guac from to determine how much onion they used and if there were any other ingredients they should be made aware of. Emmavet was thorough, kind, and saved our puppy from a potentially deadly situation.

I have been a dog owner for over 40 years. This was the best vet experience I have ever had. I have a small, fearful Shiba Inu, so vet visits are traumatic. Everyone on the staff from the reception to the vet made this a calm, trauma free visit, and gave me several suggestions to help going forward. This practice is fabulous!!

I live in DC and there were no vet offices with last minute availability, so I was referred to EMMAvet. I was able to get my dog in and seen with loving techs/receptionists/vets. Everyone was so wonderful and understanding. They took some more urgent cases before me which I didn’t mind because I would want them to do the same for my dog! They respected social distancing and it was a very pleasant experience overall. My only advice would be to ask if you should leave and come back or wait in case it takes a while or if something else comes up! Thank you for taking care of my sweet puppy.

I switched to EMMAvet from a different vet in the area and I am SO glad I did! Everyone is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They never make me feel like I'm a bother and are always checking in to follow up post appointment. Dr Gardiner is incredible and has helped my dog and I get to the root of her allergies when the previous vet didn't seem to care and just kept pushing Benedryl. We also had a spay surgery that went flawlessly. We are moving to Montgomery County but will stay with EMMAvet as our primary vet because they are worth it!

This is the second time I used EMMAvet - the first time, they saved my cat's life by diagnosing a linear foreign body, then calling around to get him an appointment at an overnight ER vet to have it removed. The second time, it wasn't an emergency appointment, they did a check-up on a sick semi-feral cat I'm caring for, and they were once again fantastic! They were a) incredibly kind to this scared, sick semi-feral cat, and b) were very compassionate to me and walked me through the treatment as well as reassuring me how carefully they handled him to make sure he wasn't more scared than he was. Mixed feelings on this review. The staff were courteous and they addressed the needs of our dog. We also waited over 4 hours to be seen and we kept being told that they were sorry and it would be 10 more minutes. We would have dropped our dog off and picked it up later if we knew it would be 4 plus hours. Another thing was the pricing, to shave a small section of our dog's leg they labeled it as large shaving and charged us around $125. I believe this was an excessive charge. Also we got wipes for the dog that cost $20 on Chewy but we were charged $50. I can understand a 25% mark-up but over 50%.....questionable. I would like to rule this out as a bad experience and we caught them at a busy time but the pricing still is highly questionable. ** Adjusted my review based on the response from the owner

Staff are all so friendly and helpful in how to use their services. Appointments can usually be booked fairly quickly. Wait times have been minimal. And the veterinarians are very thorough in providing information about your animal's visit and any necessary follow-up. Needed a vet on the weekend to evaluate my dog's hacking cough. After getting a complete runaround from my now former vet practice - a supposedly open 24 hours vet hospital - I found Emma vet, who not only actually answered the phone without putting me on hold for 20 minutes, but were nice, helpful and gave me an appointment on a sunday. Found them only seeking urgent care, but now switching to them as my regular vet. Very minimal experience, but it couldn't have gone better.

Really loved this vet from the first time we met them for urgent care after our dog was referred to a neurologist but the first neurology appointment wasn’t for seven weeks. We went to EMMAvet for urgent care and they were very knowledgeable and caring. We will be back for sure. Friends, neighbors, and even our UberPet driver have since told me that they are considering leaving their current vets in the Del Ray area and heading to EMMAvet for primary care after learning of EMMAvet through their urgent care services. EMMAvet is the place to go when your pet has an emergency. When our 14 year-old Maltese was seriously ill, EMMAVet staff provided first class service by listening to our concerns, showing compassion, responding to our question, and arranging for Dr. Jarvinen to see Bella without having to wait on-site for hours. The physical exam, medical labs, and pharmacy were all completed on-site. Dr. Jarvinen listened carefully to our questions and concerns, and provided us with a detailed recovery plan for Bella that has paid off; Bella is up on her feet again and back to her self. On the July 4, 2022 holiday, I needed a vet for my sick dog. I called 4 Veterinary 24 hour hospitals that told me they were full and could not see my dog. I called Emma Vet Urgent Care and thankfully they told me come right over. Dr Nolan and her staff were great! They are a kind and caring group. Dr Nolan determined and treated the cause of my dog's pain. He was released to me with 4 prescriptions that had detailed instructions on their use. I also received a discharge summary which was very helpful. My dog will need to see his regular vet in 2 weeks for a recheck evaluation. Dr Nolan sent me a clinical summary so his vet can see the results of the tests that were done.

I had an excellent experience with EMMAvet. Their practice is extremely COVID safe. Everyone I spoke with was very friendly. Before they did anything in addition to the physical, they called me and let me know the cost so I could give informed consent. My kitty came out calmer than when she went in, which I think speaks to the quality of the folks working there. Oh and the visit was super quick, in and out within the hour. My only complaint is I wish they offered payment plans for the bills like some human hospitals do.

I arrived a bit early before opening on Sunday. This was my first visit. Sign on the door instructed me to set up an account and sign in online, first. This was a bit of a challenge given I was holding my dog in one hand and there was no place to sit. A staff member came out and let us know there would be a slight delay, Even tho I had arrived first, another person who had pre registered was (appropriately) taken back first ,so do sign in before going. Consider even making an account in case you ever have to go in an emergency. (My dog's problem was concerning but not an emergency). Due to construction, owner's were not allowed inside. That was disappointing but understood as not the norm. The vet called me after she finished examining my dog, got some more information from me and clearly discussed her evaluation and plan. The staff came out with the needs and went over the instructions which were also clearly printed on the label . I then got a complete summary sent to me by email (complete for an owner, not the report your vet would get). The fee was very reasonable;: $150 for the visit and the rest for meds was fine.It was nice not to have to pick things up at the drugstore.(note: they do not take checks or cash if I recall) . Then i got a follow up email the next day to see how we were doing. I don't even get that fro my regular vet! My only beef is that I had to register my dog as the wrong breed as her AKC recognized breed was not on their list despite having some weird and bogus "breeds "listed. I know this is just a programming glitch but grrrr. All I can say is this type of facility is a godsend for pets in our area,when you really don't want to wait for your vet to open especially now when they are SO booked, I can't always get in quickly.

We took our sweet baby King for an EMR checkup after work. His nose was stuffy and he kept sneezing. We thought it was a side effect from his shots/vaccinations. We waited around the area for almost two hours. The doctor called us with updates and information about his condition and medications. After one day on his meds, he’s back to his silly self. It’s hard finding an appointment with our veterinarian. The hours at EmmaVet are convenient and the doctors are very informative. We also received an email checking on how King is doing. Went in with a puppy who hadn’t eaten in days, had vomiting and was lethargic. Waited 4 hours to be seen and sent home basically being told that they don’t know what’s wrong. He wasn’t eating hours after coming home, so I tried to call and they immediately put me on hold. After being on hold for like 10 minutes I just hung up. I don’t know if it’s lack of staff or what, but I’m just really disappointed that my puppy was just pushed to the bottom of the line, and was crying while waiting for hours to be seen. Only reason I posted 3 stars is because the one vet that seems to be working seemed slammed.

As others have posted, my cat had a semi-urgent issue and no other vets in the area would fit her in for weeks. Even the local emergency clinics told me they weren't taking walk-ins. EMMAVet staff were polite, recognized the urgency, and helped me get an appointment the day I called. Dr. Fyres treated my cat and was very thorough in explaining the issue and the treatment. I had never heard of this clinic before this happened but I will definitely go back if/when I have another urgent issue. I am so impressed with and appreciative of the way my situation was handled. We had to use them for an emergency, and they were very professional and accommodating. Prices were good, considering emergency fees aren't cheap so I felt it was reasonable and a good value. Both the office staff and vet answered all of my questions and had time for me. I still prefer to use another office closer to me as I have been there for over two years, but if we moved closer or needed their services for an emergency I would not hesitate to use them. I fully recommend them for anyone looking for a great vet!

This place is wonderful. It is by far the cleanest, best smelling, and nicest vet office I have ever been to. The staff is amazing and the quality of care was off the charts. My 14 yr old Yorkie Toto was suffering and was in respiratory distress, so it was time to end his suffering. They were very sweet and professional during this tough time. The couches and rooms are very nice and comfortable which truly helped during his passing. The Vet Doc was truly amazing, and I can’t thank her enough. ❤️

This is the place to go when your dogs get sick but your regular vet can't squeeze them in "for 3-5 weeks." It's not the cheapest place in the world (I paid $350 for my dog to be seen for diarrhea-- he was given a fluid injection and a take-home antibiotic and probiotic)... BUT they are extremely fast, professional, and thorough. I left feeling like it was the best $350 I'd ever spent because I knew they fixed my pup up. Would recommend!

I took my pup in to EMMAVet yesterday after he was having severe GI problems all day. The staff gave me a heads up on the wait time but had him in and out in 30 minutes! The cost was absolutely on par with any other urgent care in the area - but that’s why you get insurance! Above all else though I’ve never been to a vets office full of staff who so clearly LOVE dogs. Everyone went above and beyond to make sure my dog was healthy and happy!

I was referred by NOVA Cat Clinic, who was all booked up for after-hours appointments. EMMAvet was able to see my kitty quickly, were polite, and provided excellent care. While the clinic is a bit of a drive, I'd absolutely return for emergency care. The reviewers who bash EMMAvet for price gouging are uninformed. Veterinarians incur substantial costs and many of the services people complain about (bloodwork, for instance) have fixed fees the veterinarian cannot control. I'm happy to pay for quality treatment.

Dr.Fires was extremely kind and responsive. Most of the front desk staff were also kind. However 1-2 people I spoke with on the phone were very diminishing and invalidating. I was made to feel pretty silly for being concerned about by cat with comments such as “oh… that’s all? That’s not that bad” and “we have an actual emergency coming In”. That said, I was also treated with kindness by other staff so I don’t want to diminish their kind words, and promptness. At the end of the night, the staff was very apologetic for the wait and was reassuring me it wouldn’t be too much longer. I was very very thankful for their help. Overall my visit was about 5 hours. I appreciated Dr.Fires explaining bloodwork and being very detail oriented.

Wonderful vet. I would switch my cat's care to them in a heartbeat if they were a primary care vet. Having never been to an urgent care vet before, I wasn't sure what to expect but from the time I dropped my kitty Salem off they were kind and professional. EMMAvet was incredible. I brought my dog in for a UTI. I had been turned away at a couple hospitals due to their wait times and scheduled close time approaching and was feeling stressed that my dog would get worse because I couldn’t get her to a dr. The staff were all very nice and communicative. We ended up having to wait a little longer than expected, due to multiple critical cases coming in at the same time or shortly after our arrival. But I never once felt like my dog was being ignored. In fact - I called to check on her while I was in the parking lot (they did not know I was there) and Kathy said she would happily check on my dog if I’d like. I wondered if she was just saying that, but I watched her physically get up and check. EMMAvet is the real deal! Rest assured that if you bring your pets here, they’ll receive top notch care and they’ll go above and beyond to make sure your pet is not alone -You can tell the staff is full of animal lovers! I spoke with Dr. Fires after my dog’s exam, she answered all my questions and gave me great instructions for going home. She did not rush me through her findings and thanked me for my patience. 15/10 would highly recommend this place. Thank you Kathy, Mika and Dr. Fires! I appreciate you all so much!!

I have been so impressed with this veterinarian and her team! We regretfully had to visit this week, but came home with a recovered Gracie. From the atmosphere when you enter it is very homey and comfortable. Gennifer and Mia, the receptionists are caring and efficient. The vet tech Courtney was very caring in handling Gracie as she had many tests and procedures to perform to assess her condition. She was assisted by Michelle who too was talking with Gracie and always trying to keep her calm. Dr. Jarvinen was very focused, experienced and caring of Gracie, as well as our needs as I was quite upset. I appreciated her ability to share truthful information so we knew what our options were. She referred us to the Regional Vet Medical Center for an additional ultrasound, which we scheduled for two days later. The results were sent to the Emma Vet clinic and Dr. Jarvinen called to follow up with me today. I have not had a great deal of experience with 24 hour ER clinics for animals, but have heard horror stories. I am very confident that if you visit this clinic you and your pet will have a wonderful experience. They genuinely care! I'd rate them a 10 if I could!

The monetary value in an urgent care place might provide over an emergency service is not worth how long it takes to see someone. There is no point in pre registration. And reciting "you received an email about how these aren't appointments" isn't helpful or considerate and there wasn't any apparent priority of severity of injury or need. Pets with a hurt toenail were brought in before my dog who was bleeding in her eyes. Waited 1.5 hours to be called in, another 45 minutes for an update, and we're now over 2 hours past the update and after closing time and I still don't have my dog back. The stars are for friendliness of staff and I feel like the vet maybe actually cared about my dog. I guess the area just needs more vet support because I have yet to find anywhere that can meet any reasonable standards for time to be seen.

They took him in and called me after the exam. Turns out my babu has syncope which is why he was passing from from his heart murmur. Just left EMMAvet for my sweet puppy with diarrhea and a possible UTI. Really thrilled with Dr. Fires and the wonderful Kathy at the front desk as well as all of the amazing techs behind the scenes that I’m certain kept Beverly’s visit relaxing and calm. Beyond everyone’s kindness and care, I felt like treatment was great and Dr. Fires really listened to what I had to say about Bev and then went into her recommendations. Covid restrictions are in place (which is great! Thank you to the EMMAvet team for prioritizing your staff’s safety!) but I don’t feel like any information or touch points were lost in the mix. Kathy explained all the meds I was sent home with very well (it is a lot of meds, props to Kathy!) and I was also emailed a copy of discharge instructions along with a receipt - love the paperless aspect. Pricing was super fair for the area and ultimately I feel like EMMAvet valued my time, my words, and my dog’s health. Not sure there’s anything else more important than that :).

My dog was attacked by another dog and was in bad shape, so we just rushed her to the only place that would take her not even thinking about price..once everything was over we had a bill that we COULDN'T afford but we already agreed it would be up to the owner of the other dog to pay or at least help. Long story short they worked with us while we came to an agreement with the other dogs owner on a price and we really appreciate it, as well as all the help with our dog. My dog was sick, and I was so worried, but my regular vet was closed. So I called EMMAvet. I got a great feeling from the moment the phone was answered. The receptionist (?) was very friendly and explained what to expect upon arrival due to the current COVID restrictions. She also instructed me on how to register on the site, and schedule Lilli's first appointment (which was only 30 minutes from the time of my call, which is just enough time for me to get there from Arlington). I couldn't go in with her due to social distancing, so I was very worried. However, that was unnecessary, because shortly after the vet tech took her inside, I received a phone call from Ms. Wendy. I can not speak highly enough of this urgent care facility!! My 13 year old dog was having severe bowel issues. I suspected it was a flare up of her pancreatitis, which had become more urgent as she stopped eating and drinking. This is a condition she has struggled with for most of her life, so I recognized the symptoms. I went to an urgent care Vet in Annandale, but they were over crowded, and weren’t willing to consider any of the normal diagnostics or treatments I suggested (ie: stool samples, IV fluids). After being told she needed $1,000 in xrays to “figure out what was going on” I decided to get another opinion. I AM SO GLAD I DID. Emma Vet did a full diagnostic, and came up with a much more reasonable approach. They held her for monitoring, rather than rushing to send us home. After 6 hours of fluids and a little TLC she is well on her way to recovery. I am SO grateful to have found a vet that was willing to listen to my previous experiences with flare ups, rather than just running up an expensive bill of un necessary tests.

I rushed my elderly 9 pound Maltese to EMMAvet early one evening after he ingested human heart medication. I called ahead and when I arrived they had already talked with poison control. He was there until slightly after their closing time of 11 p.m. when I was able to take him home. It's taken me awhile to jump on and leave a review. I took my little guy Milo in a few months ago because he had an infection that needed attention. My regular vet was closed so I brought him in. The veterinary nurses were wonderful and so was the doc. Considering how uncomfortable my dog was, he was so calm with them. They presented options for his care, gave me thorough instructions, and followed up the next day. It's great having this option in our community for emergencies that arise in the evening. This urgent care vet is nothing short of FANTASTIC. Every single staff member was so caring and thoughtful to me, the facility is spotless and they diagnosed and began treating my pup within 30 minutes of arriving. They provided such a thorough overview when I picked my girl back up and all of her needed medications were organized in syringes and ready to go. I have yet to find this level and quality of care in NoVa. I didn't have to think twice about any of that and could focus on caring for her. Yes, some of the reviews said its expensive but I didnt find their prices any more than the normal going rate for vet care in this area, especially when you consider you can walk in without an appointment and be taken care of right away. I wish I could take my puppy there for everything because they really made us both feel taken care of. I will surely be going there for any urgent care type needs every time!

I've been taking companion animals to vets for nearly 2 decades. I don't often trust medical personnel. In my experience, human and animal health alike--most doctors give information with confidence and assuredness as though it is fact, and end up being wrong about the information they provided. You don't know me, but the people who do know that it speaks volumes that I'm giving any medically-oriented place a perfect score. Dr. Katie Malehorn is one of 2 vets I'd ever recommend (the other is in Blacksburg, VA). Her compassion and empathy is beyond comparison. If you have a question, and she believes she knows the answer--she tells you. Then, she checks her resources, verifies the answer, and gives you the information that explains the answer. She doesn't tell you something is true without double-checking herself, and she has (and uses) resources to explain why something is true. This is true of all of the staff members I've interacted with here--the vet techs, the assistants, the personnel who answer the phones and direct calls. My first experience here was with an 18 year old dog. She ended up passing from chronic kidney disease. It was, and still is, an incredibly painful experience. This place, and their wonderful staff, made it a little more bearable. The compassion is unmatched. My most recent experience was with a puppy and a kitten. The puppy came from a home that has been neglecting to care for an outbreak of mange. Needless to say, it was incredibly overwhelming and chaotic. They gave me the confidence and know-how to calmly help my babies heal. It's an urgent care facility, so it's a little pricey--it's also 100% worth it. With everything I've got, I recommend this facility. Thank you guys for helping me through the darkest of days, and for helping me take care of my babies. You're the best <3

I brought my 1.5 year old in yesterday because he was having some scary medical issues. The vet met us outside, maintaining social distancing and masks were worn by all of us. She really put in effort to make my already nervous guy comfortable and happy to be there. This place is expensive. That being said, they took great care of my roommate's cat after an accidental burn. I arrived at 1:05pm and was able to be seen immediately. The staff was very compassionate with the cat and had great bedside manner. I was quite upset and they helped to alleviate some stress. They called a few times after the surgery to check on the cat. I would get a vet opinion if the issue is minor, but this was a great place for an urgent situation and still hundreds less than an ER visit.

Excellent and top notch urgent care. Professional and efficient staff and vets. From the time we called to the time we completed our visit, staff was great. Courtney answered the phone quickly and professionally when we called to learn more about the practice. She responded to our question(s), including "Do you have an x-ray machine on site", and they do. Our provider, Pew, has a good bedside manner and made me feel confident of her expertise, technical knowledge, and diagnostic capabilities/ equipment of the practice. Again, they have a x-ray machine (first time I've ever seen my dog's x-rays) and most lab work can be done on-site. Fecal testing, however, had to be sent off-site. The patient is our Brittany Spaniel, male, six years old (and turns out he is ok, no issue with blockage). There are a couple reviews that mentioned cost. We went in on a Sunday with no appointment and were seen very quickly. I considered this an emergency visit-and expected the associated fees with this type of emergency care. Yes, it was not inexpensive but I thought it worth the price paid and a value. There are alternative practices for routine examinations, so cost compare if you have the time. EMMAvet staff was clear on pricing and recommendations. But do walk through each item before agreeing to diagnostic or treatment to avoid sticker shock. The x-rays and diagnostic, for example, were $300. But, they were done on-site and made a quick, same day evaluation possible. The consultation/ exam was $105. They walked us through the x-ray, lab results, evaluation, and treatment/prescription. The x-rays and lab work were forwarded to our primary veterinary (Ft. Hunt Veterinary). After all being said and done, we are glad we have this facility available and open on weekends. Two thumbs up.

Even when they were jam-packed late at night, they took our calls and updated us on his condition. My cat had an aural hematoma about a month ago and he wasn't eating or drinking, and was hiding. I was probably over reacting, but I was very worried about him. I must have called about 6-7 different vets to try to get him to be seen. Some vets tried giving me an appointment one month away, which clearly wasn't feasible as he wasn't eating or drinking. When I called EMMAVet, they were busy, but when I described the symptoms they realized he had to been earlier rather than later and worked around to have him seen that day. While I'm sure my cat is not a fan of this place, I sure am. He's back to his old self of sleeping, eating, and biting my wife when she doesn't give him pets, or gives him pets the wrong way.

I came to them almost 15 min to 8 pm with my cat Midnight who had a bad upper respiratory infection.I didn’t want to give up on finding help for my buddy even if it was late I just couldn’t have him having another night feeling ill. I am so impressed by the level of care we received. On a Saturday we had an emergency with our cat. We were referred here and from the second we called we were treated so well. We took our cat in right away, we received a call from Dr Wendy 30 mins later and within 2 hours my cat was released. I truly don’t have the words to express how grateful I was to find EMMAvet. I had to make an emergency late night visit with my elderly dog, Clare, when my regular vet was closed. She had not been in good health so I was pretty sure this was going to be the vet visit that I had been dreading. I was upset that we had to go to an office that we had never been to before, but I couldn’t be more pleased with the experience we had. Both the vet tech and Dr Jarvinen went far above and beyond and made one of the most difficult days of my life much more bearable. It sounds weird to say but I think back and smile knowing that they gave my dog the happiest final moments- they gave her a giant bowl of ice cream and a chocolate cupcake. I don’t think Clare could have dreamed of anything better. The care and attention we were given was exceptional. Our pup had congestive heart failure. We managed to keep him going with medications for almost 2 years. The time came and I called our vet in Woodbridge, which where we lived for 27 years and it was after hours, they said take him to a emergency vet. I called EMMAvet and they said to just bring him in and we did. Both my husband and I were devastated, in tears. It was time to let him go. The Vet and the staff were absolutely wonderful. They gave us privacy and as much time as we needed to say goodbye. They were all, amazing. That was in February. Now, we’ve decided to adopt another pup and I will be taking him straight to EMMAvets, with no reservations what so ever. I trust them.

We are first time puppy parents and our doggo came inside from roughhousing with some other puppies. We noticed what looked like a bubble on his left eye and we were concerned he had torn his cornea during play. The bubble was slightly opaque and didn't clear or move from the center of his eye. So of course I looked up emergency vet care and called EMMAvet. Spoke to a super nice woman on the phone who took our info and said they'd put him in the system. Packed the doggie into the car and drove down, and we met by another very pleasant and helpful person at the front counter. They got us into an exam room right away and ... Of course. OF COURSE his eye was perfectly fine between when we took him out of the car and when we got into the room. It was a stubborn piece of *lint* and we were ridiculously overreacting new per parents. Neither the vet nor the registration employee made us feel dumb for wasting their time, and since we didn't even make it to the exam they were kind enough to not charge us either. They spent some time loving on our puppy and feeding him treats and sent us on our way. It turned a scary experience which could have become frustrating into one that was mildly embassaring but pleasant. I hope I never need to go back but if something happens I absolutely would take my dog to them. 11/10.

Great service and was seen really fast. However, I felt like I was leaving a little ripped off. Took my dog in for some sort of eye conjunctivitis and before I left, they asked if I would like her nails trimmed and thought it would be maybe $5-10 and since I just moved here I don’t have my nail trimmers so I agreed. When my almost 17 year old Shih Tzu started experiencing some type of unexplainable pain and letting out cries that could only be described as horrific 3 weeks ago, this place was the ONLY place that was open on a Sunday. The downside was that, after registering online and making a same-day emergency appointment, I still had to wait about 2.5 hours in my car in 100 degree heat. I don't consider this their fault, but more the fault of ALL the other Vets that decided it was a good idea to completely CLOSE on Sundays, due to "pandemic", as if nobody's pet gets sick or hurt on Sundays. That is SILLY! When I took my Kay-T down there, I could tell by his condition that it was probably the last time I would see him alive. He was almost 17 which is quite a LONG time. I KNEW my dog was suffering in a way I'd never seen before, and I just wanted SOMEBODY to help him, and EmmaVet was the ONLY place with the good sense to be open on Sundays. They followed good safety protocols when I dropped off my puppy - masks, face shields, social distancing, etc. A few minutes later, I received a call from the doctor telling me Kay-T was dying, in very bad pain, and suffering and needed to be Euthanized. I agreed. Despite my heartbreak, the folks at EmmaVet were so kind, caring, and professional. They even mailed me a sympathy card signed by all the staff after my Kay-T was put to sleep with personal notes and words of encouragement. I had him cremated, and they did a very beautiful and respectful job of returning his remains to me - much nicer that what I expected. The care and love for pets and pet owners really shines through on their work, and while I hope no pet owner has to lose their pet the way I did, I highly recommend this place if your pet has an emergency or needs physical therapy. I am grateful for the love and care they showed my Kay-T in his final moments on earth, for them being open and available when we needed them, and for the respect and compassion they showed me. This is a very good vet.

Everyone was so compassionate when I called in to euthanize my beloved elderly pitbull Phoenix. They asked if I could wait as another family was saying goodbye and they wanted us to have the comfy room rather than an exam room for her passing, which I was so thankful for. They brought in a dog bed and I had as much time to get myself and Phoenix into a relaxed state, or what’s possible in these circumstances and as much time afterwards to cry and say goodbye. I knew she had cancer so I quit my job and we hit the road last October 2020 picking a different state to live in each month and making memories. I had finally decided Virginia would be our new home and after a month in Winchester we got into Alexandria May 2nd. I was hit with an immense sense of guilt for uprooting her from Texas to die in a strange place surrounded by strangers. Thank you for your kindness and the calm, quiet privacy to say goodbye to the greatest love I’ve ever had for the last 13 years.

They only take walk ins, think of this place like a human urgent care. Took my child err I mean cat because he was having bowel problems. Our pup had been bitten by another dog, and originally we had thought it was something small. A few days later, while my husband and I were out of town with our pup, we agreed we should take him to a local emergency vet to check him out to make sure it wasn't any worse than we saw. I was very nervous to take him to a different vet, but it was the best decision I ever made. The bite ended up being much worse than what we had thought. Dr. Nolan, and the rest of the staff were beyond amazing in making sure not only my boy received all necessary medical treatment, but that I was okay while sobbing in their office. They explained everything in great length, and made sure I understood what was wrong, and what the healing process would look like. I am only sad that they are so far away that I can't make them my permanent vet location for all of our animals. Thank you from my husband, myself, and Cheddar for taking such wonderful care of us! We will forever be grateful.

I’m new to the area and didn’t have a primary vet established but EMMAVet was there and saw my dog within an hour of my call! They discussed everything with me before and after his evaluation and was able to schedule his (much needed) surgery for the next morning. Every staff member I had contact with was patient, kind, and helpful and I’ve received multiple calls and emails to check on him pre and post surgery. My panic driven visit to EMMAVet Urgent Care made the decision to establish them as my primary veterinarian an easy one!
