This has been my preferred location to take my dog for all his veterinary needs in Albuquerque. My experience with Dr Martinez and the staff has always been positive. Small parking in front but plenty near by, expect a 15 Minute wait. Would recommend

Our family had our oldest pup pass away on a Saturday morning and I wasn’t sure where I could take her to have her cremation done since it was the weekend. I called VCA and they were very friendly and compassionate even over the phone and told me we could bring her by when we were ready. After we said our goodbyes we took her in and the staff up front were professional and kind while I struggled to keep it together. They made sure I was happy with the memorial package we went with and were very empathetic. The urn and paw prints turned out perfectly. Then this week we received a card in the mail signed by the individual staff all expressing their sympathy for our loss as well as a couple of her paw prints on separate cards.This was really unexpected and touched our family. While they never met Nugget when she was alive they treated her and our family with love and respect that we won’t forget. Thanks to everybody at VCA West for your kindness and compassion; it doesn’t go unnoticed.

My dogs have come here for a while now. They all see Dr. Voss. He’s a great vet. He’s always super nice and is great with my girl that is nervous. The techs are nice and great with my dogs too.

They’re currently treat my older dog Bender Oak for a knee infection that won’t heal, and possible Cushings. He loves loves loves the vet techs here, which is why I keep bringing him. The staff are also keenly aware that not all pets are well behaved. While Bender is an angel when he doesn’t feel well, they have put us in a room to keep away from reactive dogs and to keep him soothed, calm and full of kisses.

We were seen very quickly here and even though our Nyx was there for shots she had the best time...She loves the place and the people there and didn't show any real anxiety. Her tail never stopped wagging even during and after the shots.

Amazing Vet care facility! Super nice front desk people. Dr. and nurses were great. Explained everything thoroughly and answered all my questions! They also offered a healthy plan for my new puppy for shots, getting spayed, check ups, for a monthly subscription fee. Which is way better than having to pay hundreds of dollars up front. Great job guys!

It was only my third time at this location. I must say, they were COVID-19 prepared. Taking precautions like closing the waiting room and having families wait in their cars. Having the staff come to the car and notate concerns and reasons for the visit. Parking spots were numbered so you could call in your parking spot number to check in. I only wish they would've communicated ALL these changes and protocols to me during the confirmation call so I was prepared rather than getting out of my car and reading it alongside their windows. The vet tech who came to the car was great and answered all my questions. My fur baby seemed to like her too. The vet called me during her evaluation and we discussed her findings in detail, which I appreciated. She also offered to get me a brochure on what was discussed during our phone call to take home. When it came to the last woman I interacted with at checkout, I felt almost like an inconvenience when I asked questions and rushed. I didn't get the brochure so I called after I left to get the info so I could read up on it and felt I had to apologize for bothering her and explain. Maybe she was having a bad day but I don't think anyone should have to explain "why" they're asking questions regarding their fur babies care. I do plan to continue to come here because overall the visit was good. The purpose of this review is to give them feedback to help them get better at what they do.

The staff was so compassionate over the phone when I called about my dogs leg. They were able to see us right away same day, when we got there the staff was even more welcoming. You can tell they care about the well being of your pet! Don't take your pet any where else!!

I just really want to thank the staff at this location. We had to put our sweet fur baby down after 8 years and a long fight with leukemia. I truly can’t express how much love & symphony we received. From the beautiful Urn we got to the cards & our doggy’s foot prints.💖 They made this process more comforting and again we thank you so very much for treating and giving our Diamond love .

My dog was hit by a car and i took her here to see if i could do anything for her because she was in bad shape. Felt so horrible and distressed the Doc saw this comforted me, even gave me a hug and tried her very best in multiple ways to try and help my dog, and me with the best possible options. Unfortunately we couldnt and she went above and beyond. I had to put my poor girl to sleep. But she was very sweet with her and made it as peaceful as possible. Let me hold her before during and after. Wish i was there for something else. But i would definitely go back if i find another great pup.

This Dr was very compassionate towards my pet and I was very thankful. She provided great information and a good cost breakdown for various treatment options. There were two details I struggled with: 1. The entry way was under construction and the noise was anxiety inducing for my pet. No warning was given when I made the appointment about the construction. No transparency. 2. Even though we had an appointment, they were 25 mins late seeing us. I’m a very timely person, so this was disappointing.

They took care of my female Catahoula (Ani), who had irritation on her lower belly caused from skin folds. Due to COVID-19, staff came outside to car for quick evaluation of Ani. Could not enter facility, but left Ani at VCA for exam and treatment. Picked her up about 15min later. I was provided instruction on caring for Ani's condition, using provided antibacterial wipes and a 10 day antibiotic regimen. Ani's condition has cleared up, and she is no longer constantly licking the affected area. Thank you VCA staff for providing care, relief, and healing for my poor little girl - she's all better now!

No other vet besides these folks have listened to me on how we would do the check up with my extremely anxious dog. Most vets can’t even finish the exam. We got through the full exam because they listened. That day my car and dog got stolen in front of the building. The staff drove around the neighborhood looking for my dog, helped me report her missing, held all of my other animals all day and cared for them while I sorted it all out. They also comped my visit because “that would be too much stress.” They also do call backs the next day to make sure your animal is doing good. Amazing staff. Won’t go anywhere else.

I had to have my cat euthanized. They were very caring and loving at a hard time. And the vet was very thorough, and helpful about my choices and the expenses involved beforehand. Actually, the euthanizing was the most loving I had ever experienced. They had a separate darkened room with a comfortable couch where you could be with your pet for a while. Thank you, VCA. And especially veterinarian, Anna Brown!

We have taken in a rescue from an abusive situation, and had to take him to VCA west side hospital twice now during the current Pandemic restrictions. Each time they were extremely busy and under staffed so a wait is pretty normal. However they were following all social distancing protocols to the best of their ability and they truly care about the members of the family they treat. Even with how busy they are we still received a follow up call the next day to check on our pup and his condition. Thank you for all you guys have done during these times for the furry members of our families.

The front desk crew is pretty amazing and handle the large volume of clientele well and always with a smile, the doctor assistants are very knowledgeable and compassionate. All the doctors help me always make the best decisions for me and my pets, they are always available to answer any questions I have, my pets and I feel very comfortable and trustworthy in their hands. As a new pet owner, I'm really happy with the service and amenities available at VCA. They follow up a lot thought text, app and even by mail. I feel behind on my dog's shots but they even sent me a post card reminding me. They are also really great at rescheduling appointments for either later or earlier than initially set up. The staff is really kind and helpful. One thing I like in addition to the staff and customer service, is the app. I can use it to set up appointments and check records. Really great service. There app is also easy to navigate and use.

Took my dog in a few weeks back because he cut his foot pretty bad. Very professional and friendly staff. You really can tell they actually care for your pets unlike most vets in town. First consultation was free, treatment was affordable and I kept taking my dog in every few days for bandage replacements, the vet assistants took their time and helped my dog with love and care. They even drew a little ghost on his cast. (It was Halloween week) You guys are awesome. Staff would call me every once in a while to check up on him. Loved this place and I'll definitely be going back.

I always love VCA West Mesa Animal Hospital. My favorite position there is Doctor Cameron boss my fur babies get along with him tremendously well but that's only because of his demeanor with them he will stop to take the time to interact with them and talk to them and be gentle with them before he ever does any kind of an exam. He realizes the importance of your babies being like your children, and he's very focused on making the patient as well as the parents of the patient feel at ease. Although West Mesa VCA is a bit more on the expensive side it's worth the extra Buck just for the care that you receive. If I had to recommend a pet hospital this would be the 1!

This isn't the best or the worst animal hospital. It's just O.K. When caring for animals, you need to provide TLC and exceptional customer service. Here's my experience: 1) I was returning a follow-up call regarding my 8wk old puppy and I expressed my concern that he "smells" like blood. All the receptionist could say was "um..yeah..I don't know." several times. Okay miss, I need more than just a "um yeah" over and over again. 2) first time doctor visit : Felt like they just wanted me in and out quickly. I didn't feel like I was being listened to, my puppy had an injury and they just glanced at it and gave me medication. What am I paying $80 for if you're going to just do the bare minimum? There are other places that cost less and provide better care

My first time here ended up being for the worst reason possible, but all the staff I interacted with at VCA were kind, understanding, and helpful. They allowed me time to grieve before and after I had to say goodbye to my beloved cat Frasier, and informed of the process every step of the way so I knew he was being taken care of. They even sent a card of condolences and took his paw print to remember him by, truly unexpected and appreciated. Thank you Amanda, Haley, Bernadette, and all others involved in making Frasier’s last day as painless as possible.

It was our first time coming in with our 2 kitties & felt welcomed from the very minute we stepped foot in the doorway ! The receptionists were amazing and helpful . Our vet tech Jerry Clemons was exceptionally kind and well natured. He treated our cats with the most respect and was very informative. We took our Guinea Pig in with an infected foot. The staff was great and Dr. Fiorello has been awesome. They have been very helpful and have done everything we can do, within reason, to help her get better. She's still healing, but looks way better than she did. No matter what happens, the staff has been great and our Guinea Pig has been well taken care of. We are very happy with this Veterinary Hospital.

I have not had an opportunity to visit with my dog yet, but so far the service I've received at this clinic is the best I've ever gotten from a vet. The receptionists have been incredibly friendly, offered great recommendations, and shared with me some great suggestions for someone new the the ABQ area seeking veterinary services (such as, they offer a shot clinic twice a week for routine vaccinations where the standard visitation fee is waived - what a great service!). Usually receptionists are a high school age vet tech hopeful or someone's grumpy old aunt and the initial service is terrible - this was not the case here. Really nice folks. Their hours are also much more extensive than the normal 8-4 and closed for 2 hours at lunch type deal for vets. I've been really pleased and feel good about taking my dog there based on the experiences I've had so far. As for earlier reviewers...I don't know. If you've got a pet that requires a specialist and you don't take them to see a specialist, or you're new to the area and are just wandering around expecting places to accommodate you, it sounds like you're the one doing a disservice to your pet.

Every time I have gone, there has been some crazy pet owner who makes no sense and is emotionally abusing the staff. I would chalk up all bad review to be these type of people. Staff is kind and the vets are knowledgeable and efficient. Last time I went, my cat was breaking out of his carrier and they immediately gave me a waiting room. I give them a perfect score. 5/7

We recently had a pet emergency and unfortunately our dog died on the way to VCA. The staff were very helpful, accommodating and understanding of our tragedy. We were allowed ample time to say our "goodbyes" to our dear pet. They made a very sad situation comforting for us. Thank you for your service!

A little high-priced but the staff was excellent. My only complaint is the pain medication they have us giving our dog is highly controlled opioid medication that you need narcan incase of a overdose, but we were not given any information on this until we had to refill the prescription at the pharmacist.

I used the free voucher, the vet was very nice and helpful. Our dog is old and going through alot of pain, the followup phone call from a vet who was covering was very informative and kind. The only issue I had was that I wish that the price of services was given prior to performing them without us having to ask. It was a bit awkward, and although our dog means every thing to us, we have a budget to consider. The followup vet gave us cost comparisons without us asking. So overall, it was an almost perfect experience. I would definately recommend them.

Our dogs got into a really bad fight with each other yesterday evening and we rushed them to the vca hospital. Upon arrival the staff was absolutely amazing and helped us immediately. Dr. Lenberg took care of us right away and instead of pushing the surgery for our dog who was really injured until the next day she did it last night. She and two other vet techs took care of us well past time they were supposed to be working. They saved our pups and saved us thousands of dollars. We’re forever thankful for how they have helped us and continue to help us throughout this difficult time.

I have a little pomeranian who is apparently VERY allergic to red ants. At 10months old, we had to take her for emergency, life saving care. They were PROMPT at VCA. I dont think I had even hung up with the receptionist and someone was already at my door to take my baby. Well, fast forward 3 months and here we are... again... cuz she got bit on her walk again. I called VCA as we were sprinting back to the car, but was unfortunately told they were full and really couldn't take her. They referred me to an emergency vet who left us sitting in the parking lot with a dog that we weren't sure would die or not (this time we knew to give her benadryl so it wasn't quite as drastic as last time). I called VCA again... long story short, even though they were almost closed and had a very busy day, they took my baby. I've had experience with these vets before with other animals - especially cats ive gotten from Watermelon that came with worms. They have always been very caring, fairly priced, and just all around great vets. I will forever recommend them.

The team was very through and engaging. The staff impressed me enough with their patient care that I will now be using them as my primary vet.

VCA West Mesa Animal Hospital is the only place that I feel comfortable taking my animals to. I have been taking my animals to their office since we moved here in 2008. The staff has always been friendly and professional in person and over the phone. You can really tell that they care about the well being of your animals. Dr. Vass is amazing, he is one of the best vets there.

Dr. Caffey & Breanna we’re amazing today with our fear aggressively hyper Australian Shepherd. After tearing open his Saphenous vein on Friday. He tore open his stitches this morning and when we took him to this VCA. We knew right there and then he was going to be in good hands. Dr. Caffey and his team understood how much we love him and how concerned we were. They made us comfortable and kept us in the loop after his surgery. He won’t be going to any other Veterinarian - that’s for sure!💗

First of all let me start by saying VCA West Mesa is the most caring, compassionate group of people who truly cares about my animals. I have been a client for over 15 years and NEVER have had a bad experience. They receptionists have been nothing but sweet, caring individuals who go the extra mile to provide excellent service. They always offer water, coffee and magazines while I'am waiting. The doctors are excellent and caring I can't put into words my graditude towards them. Seeing the other two comments makes my blood boil. These people are probaly just grumpy, snobby indviduals who are just looking for something to complain about.

Pros: AMAZING and personable staff Cons: Dr. Caffey's active listening skills The staff at and vet techs at VCA West Mesa are wonderful, friendly people that I would recommend in a heartbeat. However, I can't say the same for Dr. Caffey. There was no greeting when he came in the exam room, and I asked specific questions that were not satisfactorily answered. When I asked about which particular brand would be recommended for food, the front desk staff was more helpful in answering my questions than he was. She actually listed some brands to try while Dr. Caffey went with the generic answer of "any dry cat food will do." Additionally, when attempting to explain how my resident and new cat appeared to be interacting and what to do about it, Dr. Caffey jumped in while I was speaking to explain how cats usually react when introduced. I'm already well aware of the typical response, and therefore my inquiry was about the oddities I noticed in their reaction to each other, not what typically happens. When I was about to ask another question, he gave his parting words and left the room before I could finish talking. Dr. Caffey appears to be a very knowledgeable man, but there's plenty of room for improvement on his listening skills. A related answer is good, but an answer that addresses the posed question would be even better. I believe this would have been a 5-star visit if I'd had the pleasure of meeting one of the other veterinarians.

Information from a member of the public was wrongfully given to a rescue organization regarding the treatment of newborn puppies. VCA West Mesa Vets gave sound advice which was NOT followed by the dog owner. The owner of the puppies tried to blame the Vets at VCA for the abusive practice. The rescue organization was impressed to find that the Veterinarians at VCA West Mesa are against cosmetic surgeries like ear cropping and tail docking. Our apologies for the misunderstanding.
