BEST TRAIL RIDE EVER! We've had good and bad experiences with trail ride venues in the past. This was truly THE BEST! James and Lauren were fabulous! They were personable and thorough with teaching our four grandchildren ages 9-12 and ourselves how to handle the horses. James was quick to praise when they got it right and gently encouraged them throughout. WE ALL LOVED IT! We're also looking at taking their parents on an adventure here. Thanks, James!

As a surprise for my husband’s birthday, I gifted him a 60 minute trail ride. When we left our house this afternoon (in Layton) it was sunny and warm, but the weather quickly changed while we were on our way to SLC. By the time we got to the barn, the rain had stopped and the weather was perfect. We were happy to have cloud coverage during our ride. When we entered the barn, we signed some waivers and then we went around the side of the barn to be given a horse. They make sure you and the horse will be a good fit (horses have different personalities just like people). Mine was notorious for stopping and snacking (did they give me my spirit animal?), but he was such a sweetheart on the trail. He listened when I pulled his reins and was such a good horse. While we were riding the trail, we saw so many deer. I don’t think I’ve seen so many deer in one sitting. The horses can get spooked by the deer, but luckily no one got spooked. Right as we got to the top of the hill, the storm behind us caught up. At first it was sprinkling…no big deal. Some of the horses didn’t like rain in their faces, so they’d turn to the side. We just had to pull their reins a little to keep them going. As we started to slightly descend, my husband’s horse was NOT having it. It wasn’t too happy about the rain and didn’t want to keep going. The trail guides were great with talking him through how to get her calmed down and moving again (not that she was acting crazy or anything, she just wasn’t having the rain and didn’t want to listen). The rain only got worse. It started coming down so hard that it was stinging my ears. At this point we all had to stop and have our horses face away from the rain because a lot of the horses didn’t want to move. We stood there for a few minutes until more help arrived. The guides hopped off of their horses and helped those who needed some extra help with their horses. My husband’s was definitely one of them (we call her Diva now). The rain calmed down once we were close to the end of the trail ride. Once we made it back to the barn, the trail guides helped us off our horses and then we headed home. We were absolutely drenched and had to use the heater on our way home. We were so drenched that we were pouring water out of our shoes when we took them off. It was absolutely crazy and never rains that much usually, but I swear my husband and I bring the rain everywhere we go. We seriously had such a great time, even while getting rained on! We would definitely do this trail ride again. It was a fantastic experience that we’ll never forget.

After 2 cancellations during the pandemic, we finally got a chance to come ride! The guides were very nice and friendly, the horses were well behaved even for total novices, and the views were spectacular. We even saw a few deer that crossed the trail right in front of us! Would definitely recommend to anyone.

This was by far one of the most breathe taking and exhilarating adventures that I have ever been on. James and his staff are true, authentic, country horse handlers. They treated the horses with the upmost respect and were very polite to us as new riders. I found value in the price and plan to do it at least once a year if not more. The only bad thing is that I fell in love with “Red” and did not want to leave. It made me realize that my dream of owning a horse may be out or reach as I see they take so much love time and care. Loved this place and would suggest you try it for yourself.

I got to meet Pegasus today he sure was a good horsey! Kinda spirited but we ended up pals. Went here for my wife's birthday and it sure was fun. Way cool to see "This is the Place" from a horse. The views of the Salt Lake Valley are just different from horseback. The guides were cool, the horses well trained and overall was an incredible experience. You won't be disappointed just go ahead and do it!

Went on the hour trail ride with my grandson and son-in-law, both first time riders and they loved it! And I wished I would have come up earlier myself and not wait for a visit from the family. Will definitely do it again! James was great, it was only the three of us so it was like a personal your. Experienced riders might find it boring, but if you've never been up here, you'll miss out on some awesome views

We went here for our anniversary and had a great time. The view is amazing! I would suggest going on a day after a storm or on a windy day so that you can have a clear view of the valley. It was a fun time, don't be afraid to ask for a pause on the trail for a photo op, he's patient with those things. Note: Bring a helmet if you need one because they are not provided. This is the only downside of this place as helmets are very important when riding horses.

We enjoyed our trail ride. It is a little more urban surroundings even though it is in a park, but still beautiful. Not too challenging for beginners. Staff were friendly.

I had the best time on this trail ride! You get great views of the valley, the horses were wonderful, and James (the owner of the company) was the best trail guide you could ask for. I would highly recommend to beginners as well as experienced riders.

What a fun outing! James, Liz and Lauren were great with our crew of city slickers. It was a nice 1 hour ride with some bits of history along the way. Awesome views and reasonably priced. An extra bonus is being able to visit the park afterwards. Try the donuts. . . A-Maz-ing! 😀 …

Don't sit on the fence about this, do it! We had a fantastic experience with Western Trail Rides at This Is The Place Heritage Park! I took my husband and 4 of our kids horseback riding for a birthday surprise. Everyone had a wonderful time. The horses were all gentle and the ride was beautiful. The wranglers were wonderful and instructive. We plan on doing this again!

Besides, we all enjoyed the comfortable saddles. I truly recommend using this horse trail ride service. Great customer service and the views are super cool! We were able to ride seeing mountain and city’s view. We are coming back again!

My husband and I came up for a sunset ride and it did not disappoint it was breathtakingly beautiful the fall colors and the view was amazing. James was so friendly and helpful and made us feel so comfortable riding. Great date night or family activity . We are going to come back in the winter time with our kids. This is a must do activity if you go to this is the place. The view is so amazing. Great conversation the whole ride felt safe the whole time we even got to see a few deer. I highly recommend going the fall colors are amazing.. really anytime of the year would be amazing

Reservations are required, and easy to get. The vista from the mountain trail is awesome. The horses are gentle and the pace is slow. The guides are informative and kind. If you must ride UTA to go there, ride RT 3.

So much fun! Beautiful sights too. The wranglers were so friendly. We got there signed a waiver and within 10 minutes we were gathered. Mounting and dismounting was pretty fast too. They also have a stool to stand on just in case your too short to get your foot in the stirrup. The ride was just the right length too. We rode around the mountain and around the park. The view of salt lake was absolutely beautiful, I would imagine it would be breathtaking in any season especially the fall with all the different colors. Jeans or workout pants and athletic shoes are perfectly fine to wear. No shorts unless you don’t mind chaffing from the buckles, stirrups and saddle.

Highly recommend Western Trail Rides. We did the hour long ride today with my 2 daughters and 2 of their friends. The horses are well trained, and the views were amazing. We actually got to see a lot of wildlife too! I felt that our safety was definitely a high priority which was reassuring.

I've done two trail rides here and both experiences were good! The views are beautiful, and the terrain is varied so you're not just plodding along a flat track. Our guide James was great and was very sweet to my young daughter.

We love this place. The first time we rode horses from them was just I and my husband and it was for his birthday. Then we took our two kids for their first time, we thought they would be nervous, but didn't great for their first time riding the bigger horses.

Fun Horseback Riding. Great staff. You show up and sign some waivers in an old fashioned barn that sets the tone. Then you are off for an hour-long walk through the foothills of Salt Lake City with a view of the valley.

Very handsome and sweet, Taylor cheerfully guided us through the wonderful hilly trails and told us such engaging stories and a lot of history all rolled into a one hour memorable ride. Wow!!
