My (now) husband and myself had the most amazing sunset sail wedding aboard the Timberwind. The crew were all amazing, organized, helpful, and so pleasant/chill to be around. We are not local to the Portland area but the Portland Schooner Co. made it so easy to plan a small wedding with them taking care of nearly all needs over phone and email. We were married by the captain of the boat, very convenient for us to have that as an option. This is a great fun experience for anyone of all ages, a great way to see Portland, and was just a fun experience for our wedding guest. It's BYOB for beer and wine, you can cater food if you would like. The crew have plenty of recommendations they will provide to you . Some companies can deliver to the boat for you. Highly recommend this company for events.
Bonus: we got to spend our wedding with the sweetest 3 month old resident puppy of the boat.

We were looking for something a bit more interesting than your usual boat tour. Plus we were disinterested in diesel fumes.
It's an excellent 2hr experience. Who doesn't like a Schooner?! Plus these ships were originally used for racing in the great lakes. The tour itself doesn't really include a prescripted city/bay history or anything but the crew had lots to say about the ships and was willing to answer any questions we had. They were all a very friendly and happy bunch. You can also participate in the sailing if you'd like.
Highly recommended!!

Booked a sunset sail and it was amazing!! The crew were friendly and knowledgeable. We made it all the way out to Portland Head Light to get pictures and then ventured back to port. Great for anniversary, birthday, or just for fun! Highly recommend!
Kayla Bush
The crew were very friendly and informative and the views were lovely. The only true disappointment was we sailed the same route back and forth for the entire 2 hour tour. I see other reviews that said they sailed to the headlight so we were hoping for some different sights. I know I'm not versed in sailing so there might have been something preventing them from sailing a certain direction, but it would have been nice to have them tell us that. It got a little boring sailing in circles.

Had a pleasant sunset ride on a beautiful evening (bring a sweater for the wind and dresses definitely not recommended). If you’re a regular sailor (or boats person) I would recommend a different trip- this was definitely more of a relax and unwind and take in the views trip which was perfect for my husband and I on our weekend away. Staff was very friendly. Make sure to bring cups/ bottle openers (staff did have bottle openers) if you bring drinks on board. I think it would be too difficult to eat food (unless handheld) on the boat- but we definitely enjoyed our wine in our wine tumblers! A perfect & relaxing way to end our long weekend trip. Thanks!

My husband and I went on a sunset cruise. Staff was amazing, you could tell they were all like brothers and made a point to talk with everyone on board. Sailing was very smooth. Only giving four stars because we didn’t go by any lighthouses or see any. wildlife. Maybe I was confused but was hoping we would be going by some lighthouses. We went the opposite direction of all the scenic places. However we did witness a beautiful sunset.

We had a LOVELY day with the crew, boat and weather. Crew was so very welcoming and kind throughout. They are dog friendly and truly welcomed our pup aboard. Would (and will!) recommend to everyone and anyone. Can’t wait to go back!
Ioana Constantinescu
What an amazing experience! I do not know anything about sailing or boats but man, these people make you want to know everything about it. Beautiful sunset ride, great crew. Here's an awesome photograph of the captain.
Wendy Schrodt
Had a wonderful time. I would highly recommend this activity. The sunset sail did not disappoint. The crew was kind and courteous and even let us help with certain things

As we casually walked along the pier, catching a view of the gigantic cruise ship anchored nearby, we stumbled upon this sailing adventure. And we just happen to be right on time for the next trip. We ended up cruising at 9 knots (close to 10), and had such a blast… I absolutely recommend that you try this when visiting Portland, and may the wind and wave be ever in your favor.
Scott Sones
The boat is in clean condition, crew was friendly, and we were allowed to help haul up the main sail and fore sail. That involvement (fully voluntary) was appreciated. The harbor views were stunning and we went out into the Atlantic before rounding Ram Island and making our way back into the bay. Great experience.
Kiran R
We chartered Hearts Desire and because of heavy winds, were moved to the Baghera. Captain Greg and the 2 crew members were awesome. They were super knowledgeable, friendly, and made sure we all had a blast. Would 100% recommend!
Junwoo Lim
A very pleasant, relaxing & smooth ride for first-timers/children. Not going out of the bay, so don't expect more sporty sailing. The ship is about the right size. Large enough to sail smoothly and small enough to watch the crew working up close (and you may be asked to help them).
Sunset cruise was wonderful. Sun setting behind the Portland harbor is very picturesque. Out in ocean, temperature is a bit lower (+wind); recommend a windbreaker or a hoody.
Penelope
My daughter (6) and I loved this!!!! It was the most fun I have had in awhile. We saw seals, New England dolphins light houses! The boat was amazing and the crew was just as amazing. We will be coming back!!!
Jay Allen
For the money probably hard to beat the experience.
The Good:
Real working sailboat. Does motor for probably first 20 mins of your trip and last 20 mins tho.
Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I really enjoyed how personable they were sharing their lives as well as willing to debate what constitutes a sandwich. Cheaper than many of the alternative charters.
The Meh:
You stay within the bay and islands. You are not really going to experience open water, which is a shame.
The Bad:
None.
Mette Rose Halfer
We had a great time. The crew were so nice and helpful. I was worth every penny
Debby Herbel
The Captain & crew were awesome. We loved every second of our journey. You can choose to participate in the experience and that's even better!
Vivek Raut
One of the best experience for sailing in Portland. Captn Rob n his crew was fantastic. They offer cruise ferry service all day long which is usually 2 hours long. Service is great, all the crew is helpful n answered all the questions we had. Overall a great experience in sea ⛵️
Bonnie Fay
Not much to this. The captain makes some safety remarks before shoving off, but then unless you go back and engage him in conversation says nothing else as far as what we are passing by or any tourist info. The 2 crew members stay busy the entire trip and couldn't really take time to talk. But, it was a beautiful day on the water and you could bring your own drinks or food. So, if you just want the experience of being on a sailboat then this will be fine. It is billed as a sunset cruise but it is from 6-8pm and the subway not even set yet when we docked.
Troy Johnson
I can't say enough good things about our experience. From Annie who helped us pick the right vessel for our trip, to Michelle who called to update us on the marine forecast and suggest an earlier trip to maximize our comfort, to Captain Jessica and her crew of Allie, Tiffany, and Finn (on his fourth day!) that made us so welcome. Thank you for an amazing day on the water. Smooth sailing and fair winds!
Dylan DiGeronimo
An awesome time, especially around sunset. Crew’s great too, highly recommend. Make sure to help hoist the sails!
Jill G
This was such a fun boat ride. This was my first time on a sailboat. The crew was awesome. I even got to help raise the sails. They were very fun and engaging. The weather was perfect for sailing. Very relaxing experience. A must do if you ever get the chance. I will definitely do this again! Thank you for the fun and memorable evening!
JeFF Stumpo
My wife, our ten-year-old, and I went on a sunset sail on the Timberwind this past weekend. The sailing was smooth, the sights gorgeous, and the crew wonderful to interact with for all of us. Our family could easily make this an annual event (and more than that, if the ten-year-old has anything to say about it).
Cora Miller
We had the most amazing sunset adventure. Four words... safe, comfortable, professional and so much fun. Eachone of us was treated as a special guest by the crew and staff, beginning with the ticket inquiry. Every accommodation was made and smiles were as bright as the sun... We highly recommednd this amazing adventure! Wonderful photo opportunities all evening.
Saisie Moore
The Portland Schooner Co team made the booking and planning process seamless ahead of our private wedding charter. We had a wonderful sailing experience aboard the Bagheera — the boat and bay are beautiful and the crew were welcoming and professional. A great experience!
Rob S
This is a must if you visiting Portland. The trip is amazing, spectacular views and you get the chance to sail on a classic schooner.
We sailed on beautifully maintained schooner built in 1924. One the line handlers, Tris, talked through the sites we passed - Peaks Island, Little Diamond Island, two different forts, 3 light houses, with detail - as well as explaining some the work that makes sailing this kind of classic ship amazing.
Truly a fantastic trip that is very family or couple friendly!
Nicole Thomas
Had an absolutely amazing time sailing around Casco Bay. The whole crew not only incredibly professional but very friendly and answered any and all questions we had not only about the boat but the sites in the bay as well. Cannot recommend highly enough.
Shelly Streett
The crew can't control the wind but it was still worth the sail. This isn't a guided tour but you still get plenty of local knowledge.
Pack some sunscreen.
Annemarie Toolan
I absolutely 10/10 recommend the sunset sail. The scenery was breathe taking and crew was great!
Aaron Waid
Just Amazing if you are interested in wooden boats or sailing ⛵️ this is a must do!!!
Debbie Boyce
Even though the weather wasn't the best for a sunset sail, it was still fantastic! The captain and his crew were knowledgeable and funny. I would highly recommend this experience!
Lucinda Brinks
Thoroughly enjoyed the calm bay waters, the friendly and informative crew, and the gorgeous weather and views.
Andrea Schnur
These people are awesome. Unfortunately, we missed our scheduled tour because our cruise ship came in late. They were generous enough to schedule a later one for us and a few others that missed the original time also.
Mike Ortiz
This was the highlight to our trip to Maine. The captain and crew were friendly and fun. The sunset views are breathe taking. They take you out for a couple hours around Castro bay and you see so many beautiful sights from light houses to islands.
James Tinson
Perfect afternoon date. Did the two hour sunset cruise - crew were all engaging and fun, and full of facts and stories. Would gladly do again.
Danielle Hansen
This was absolutely wonderful!!! We went on a perfect day, little windy, little crisp, and party cloudy. You are allowed to being your own food and drink. We brought cheese, crackers, stemware and some sparkling juice. Others brought a whole cheese spread on little cutting boards with wine. This was not narrated by the 3 crew members that were on board, however, they all were happy to share their knowledge when asked. My husband helped them pull up the sails and he really enjoyed being able to help set the sails. The sailboat we were in was from the 1920s and was very charming. All the boats in this company ore on the national historical registry, so every one of them is quant and charming.
It was peaceful and fun! We rode to the most photographed lighthouse in Maine and back again. Perfect excursion that didn't take up my entire day and still allowed me to shop later. If you want a more relaxed, quiet, entertaining experience. This is for you!! I will definitely use this company again when I return.
Tatiana Laibinis
I loved everything about this tour! The crew all worked so well together and they seemed genuinely happy to be there with us. Even though it was cold, they had wool blankets to keep us warm. They were happy to answer any and all questions from the life on the ship, to marine life in the area, and even history about the areas you could see from the ship. I loved the BYOB idea and we brought our own snacks and beer. This was an excursion we will never forget.
Galen Goforth
Wonderful experience for the whole family. My wife, 3 kids ages 4-10, and I did a sunset cruise. The crew were fun but not invasive and the atmosphere was on point. I would highly recommend
Cora Miller
My husband and I did the sunset sail in late October. It was a chilly 32 by the time the sun went down, but it was totally worth it! We enjoyed that this wasn't a tour so we could just sit back and enjoy the peacefulness of sailing. We were still able to ask questions to the crew if we had any and they were very knowledgeable and friendly. Since it was so late in the year, there were only 10 passengers and 3 crew members so we were able to move around quite a bit and explore different areas of the sailboat. We loved our cruise and would absolutely recommend anyone to do it!
Sarah T
It was nice, I would recommend trying a different company. The seating on their boats is not great and a lot of people. I enjoyed it but didn't think the price matched the value.
Alyssa Ellis
Fantastic experience! We went on their first oyster and wine sail. The crew was very friendly, and the event people (wine and oyster rep) were great as well. All working people wore masks and passengers were socially distanced from each other. Gently of wine and oysters.
It was beautiful and peaceful and I would definitely recommend this company and event.
B
We had a fantastic time during our sunet sail on the Wendameen. The sights were beautiful, and both the captain and the crew were incredibly knowable, friendly, and helpful. From explaining the history of the schooner and the area, to making local recommendations and helping with photos, we felt welcomed, respected, and safe the entire time.
Leslie Ozer
What a wonderful experience. Great boat crew, absolutely breathtaking boat and a view we just can't get enough of! Took the sunset cruise (6-8pm). Would DEFINITELY do this again!
Autumn Kerbow
What a wonderful experience! The views were beautiful and the crew were amazing. I want to thank Tiffany for being so wonderful!
Ashley Brown
Wonderful afternoon sail with Nate and Sam at Portland Schooner. Even though it was particularly hot & humid out today, the crew were so pleasant and answered all my questions. Thanks for a great time, and I’ll definitely be back for another sail!
Brett Lewis
We took a sail around Casco Bay on a beautiful schooner, the Timberwind. What a fun 2 hour sail. The captain and crew were extremely friendly and made the trip very enjoyable.
Jennifer McVeigh
We sailed the high seas on a gorgeous night with an attentive staff and family, 100% recommend. Communication - Excellent, Hospitality - Excellent. Move to Spring Point Marina - loved for ease of parking and proximity to home. Thank you for a fabulous voyage.
E.M.H.
My family and I enjoyed our Portland Schooner experience. We received a courtesy call to remind us about our boarding time and where to go. Our crew was welcome and glad to answer any inquiries we had. Remy was awesome! What a great and relaxing way to celebrate our visit to Portland. If you come in October like we did, make sure you dress warmly so the chilly wind of Casco Bay doesn't affect you too much. There is a bathroom onboard if needed, which the crew shows you how to operate (its a bit different from your average bathroom, it's on a schooner after all). Blankets are provided if necessary. Portland Schooner Co. is highly recommended. Thank you P.S.C.
Doug M
Great crew, beautiful boat. But despite the moderate breeze, the captain showed a strange reluctance to raise the sail all the way. We saw another sloop from the same company that didn’t raise its foresail at all. If you really want to go sailing, look elsewhere.
Kate Korobka
1st time on a sail boat and it won't be our last!
Me and my husband really enjoyed sunset sail tour
Bruce Melvin
Absolutely must do in Portland! Take good food/ drink and leave the rest to Captain and crew.
Sunset cruise was fabulous.
Brant Caraberis
Great sail today with Kyle and Max. Went with my family - kids and grand parents. We had an excellent time. Beautiful boat and beautiful views of the harbor and islands. Highly recommend!
Ginger Pietrzak
We chartered a private sail boat for 5 of us with Portland Schooner. The captain was really nice, but we literally sailed in a circle seeing over and over the same sites. It was very disappointing. I wouldn’t book with them again.
Tara Konieczko
I work at a retirement community and every year we charter the Wendameen for our residents and wait list members. The boat ride is always special, and the crew are so helpful to our group. Our annual trip this year (2022), the captain Kyle took them on a fantastic route around Casco Bay. Thanks to all of the crew for providing a memorable experience!
Mike Doherty
A very pleasant ride around Casco Bay. One is allowed to bring their own (adult) beverages for the two hour cruise. The ship's crew is very friendly and will discuss the sites and their significance, if asked.
Veronica Taylor
Had a great time on the sail. Definitely make sure you're prepared with hat, sunscreen, and water.
John
Great trip and experience. Captain Rob and his crew were great and entertaining. Highly suggest this cool experience to sail on a schooner
Scott Treggiari
A great experience. Nice people, knowledgeable Captain and crew. Impressive to watch them work.
Emily M.
We had such a great time last fall sailing with the Portland Schooner Co we decided to get married on the Wendameen last weekend!
The company was great to work with leading up to the big day and our guests had a fantastic time once we set sail. Would recommend to anyone visiting for the weekend and/or wants to host a memorable event for friends and family.
Dylan Brown
Amazing boat ride. Very comfortable boat. Very smooth ride and the captain and crew told great stories
Gord Ross
Kyle and his crew were excellent. Great sailing and bad jokes made for an superb afternoon. Highly recommend
Jon Del Duca
Great bunch of folks today 10/27. Ended up being 51 degrees and a good amount of sunshine! The crew was very knowledgeable and personal - not a narrative tour but they are forthcoming with information and are both responsive and knowledgeable about anything we were curious about. They also got us involved with raising the sails which made it more interactive and fun. We brought aboard lobster roll and seafood chowder from Gilbert’s Chowder House and a few beers. Great value and a great sail showcasing several islands, forts, and 3 different lighthouses. Highly recommend!
Jennifer Galvan
My partner and I went on our first sailboat cruise with captain Shaun and his hard working crew. It was such an amazing experience; fun and relaxing. The tour wasn't your usual tourist tour, it was more of if we had any questions we could ask. The crew was very knowledgeable they did have the answers to our questions and were great conversationalists. We were welcomed by friendly staff members prior to boarding and Karen, who works with the company and helped guide us to the boat because we couldn't find our way. Once on the boat, it was all smooth sailing from there. Captain Shaun added in a sweet touch by allowing us to help put up the sails. After our help was no longer needed, we enjoyed our snacks and toasted with a smooth glass of wine.
Eric Hammer
This was the highlight of my Portland vacation!
I booked the Friday night sunset tour (6-8pm) and it was worth every penny. We lucked out with incredible weather and calm water, and it enhanced the experience a great deal.
The boat was probably half full (h/t Covid) which was to our benefit; much more room to sit/lay, relax, take pictures, etc.
We got to watch the crew lift the sails and tie the lines right in front of us. Very cool! They were incredibly kind and knowledgeable too
It was not a narrated boat tour, which was great. We sailed out onto the water and pretty much just chilled on the water for almost 2 hours. The crew were happy to answer any questions, but it was more about taking in the breathtaking views, taking awesome photos, and drinking wine.
Oh yeah, it’s BYOB. Bring a bottle of wine and a jacket/blanket for when the sun goes down.
Could not recommend this more.
Lynsey Rau
They were very kind, patient (we basically had to sprint to the dock when it took forever to find parking) and very accomodating. We had a wonderful experience during the sunset cruise and had great seats right next to our captain. He was engaging, educational and very down to earth. Two big thumbs up!
Whitney Luther
We had a great time on the Timberwind. The crew was wonderful and chatted with our very curious 4yo. They do a really nice job of communicating with you before departure - which ship you’re going to be on, which dock its on. We loved it.
Ryan Capul
It was fantastic going on this sail. Capt. Shakespeare was funny and entertaining, his crew was very informative and keep a positive mood. The views and sights were great. I forgot about my seasickness, but other than that, it was a very enjoyable sail.
Alison O’Kane
Absolutely LOVED this Excursion. The company has a fleet of 3 Schooners that have all been beautifully maintained and are a pleasure to be on. We took the Wendameen which I believe is the largest in the fleet, but after asking a very helpful employee via email, the boat you ride on is chosen the day of (depending on size of parties etc.) Speaking of their team, the crew on board were both very friendly and professional, answering any and all questions about the location/boat all while running around and doing whatever needed to be done to maintain the speed and direction of the boat (looked difficult but they did everything with ease.)
Additionally, you’re able to bring food/drinks on the ride and the sights around the Portland shore are unbelievable. I would highly recommend making this a stop on your trip in Portland!
Bradley Dubois
Such a cool experience at the sunset cruise. Be sure to bring rain coats and blankets even in warm days! That and snacks and beer!
ashley
A perfect New England experience....a leisure sail enjoy the views. Be sure to bring wine & snacks!
Scott DePanfilis
What a blast! A great day and super crew! Thanks Tom!
Derek Laverne
GREAT TIME! The employees were so Informative and friendly. Very laid back crew. They even let myself and a few others help out. It was very tough but super fun. I highly recommend doing this. The breeze from the ocean, the smooth flow of the boat along the current and the information they give you while you're out on the water. It's super fun. Family event, a date, just for fun, do it 👍👍👍
Laura Saldarini
We signed on for a beer tasting (Funky Bow!) and lobster roll sunset cruise....it was amazing! Captain and crew were warm, engaging and helpful. Would definitely do this again!
Steve T
Had a very fun time sailing on the Bagheera while we were visiting Portland Maine. Very knowledgeable/friendly crew, and reasonably priced. You can bring your own snacks/beverages on board.
Mick Hilleary
The best afternoon ever, it’s a very comfortable ride and the crew and the captain are amazing don’t miss an opportunity to take this ride it’s a once in a lifetime experience!
Roger Bailey
My girlfriend and I had never been on a schooner before. We decided it might be fun, and it was! The trip takes you out into the bay. The winds were light, so it was a very pleasant ride out. Dark clouds appeared over Portland, so the captain decided to head back. The winds picked up, and the boat really started to move, which was fun. The crew decided to "burn the sails" as a precaution so that nobody would get hurt by a swinging boom. We got a bit wet from the rain, but that is part of the great experience that is the open ocean (even though we never left the bay). We will definitely go again. It was a fabulous time!
Saul Goodman
Amazing sail. A must do in Portland, Explore the rich history of Casco Bay.
Ashley Bishop
Great experience. Being on a boat with history is way better than these massive bench seat ferry’s that do boat tours. This is much better suited for couples and more experienced travelers looking to talk to other travelers and not hear an intercom narration of the view.
We did the sunset tour and it was fantastic.
Def check the weather first. Sails are dependent on weather, which people seem to forget. Your experience will be impacted by sun, wind, and rain.
Leslie G
Beautiful ships, great staff and a wonderful way to sail away on a vacation stay. ❤️
Christina Burnell
I’ve had my heart on sailing with Portland Schooner Company for months now. We set a date and it couldn’t have been a better night. It was perfectly windy for an exciting sail but also sunny and warm. The crew was entertaining and friendly, and the ship itself (Wendameen) was gorgeous. I’m ready to book again, already!
Lucinda Brinks
A gorgeous day. Crew was informative and helpful. The bay was so calm.
Carolyn Harris
Great time, very nice crew and a great relaxing cruise
Nina Dintzis
We had a great sunset sail on a Sunday evening. We got tickets same day but it may have been easier since it’s during Covid and it was a Sunday. They didn’t overcrowd the boat - again probably because of Covid. It was NOT an “informative” tour - it was simply a sail enjoying the sights, which was perfect. This ride was just two hours of enjoying the sites.
Watching the crew work was amazing - they are a well oiled machine and very organized. The whole ship was just propelled by the sails and we had a great wind the whole ride.
You can also take your own drinks and food on for the trip.
The crew wore masks the entire ride and had hand sanitizer on board.
We would definitely recommend this company and would ride again.
Brian Miles
Great experience! Captain Rob and his crew were great to spend 2 hours with! Some extra wind would have been nice but that was nothing they could control. I'll definitely go back
Ashley Brock
Such an amazing experience!!!! Absolutely must do this in Portland. We took a bottle of wine, a jacket, and loved the views and history of the boat. Even made some friends on board. Would do again and highly recommended. And the staff was super patient with me when I couldn't find the location. Be sure to get there early to find parking :)
Mallory M
My partner and I did the sunset cruise, and we would definitely do it again! The dock was relatively easy to find from the parking garage and boarding was super easy. Once onboard we got comfy and they did a quick but informative introduction of crew and review of safety measures. They do encourage tipping, but I thought they approached it in a direct but casual manner.
The sun didn't actually set until about 1.5 hours into our 2 hour cruise, but watching it from the water was wonderful. It's BYOB so it was super relaxing and affordable. There were families, friend groups and couples onboard with a few who were visiting from out of the country.
I couldn't have asked for a better introduction to sailing!
Henry Aro
Awesome tours and cruise in Casco Bay. Enjoyable, low key informative and just beautiful views. Weather was clear and slightly breezy in the 70s. Perfect sailing weather.
Bob Danek
Had an excellent time sailing with my wife and daughter. The crew was great. We even saw a couple of seals and some sturgeon jumping in the bay. All in all it was a very relaxing couple of hours on the water.
j k
So special to see the July 4th fireworks! Great bigger scale Portland fireworks than I expected! I recommend to watch the fireworks from the Schooner boat.
They provided hot(rather warm) coffee and delicious blueberry pie.
Emily Shamburger
My crew enjoyed a gorgeous afternoon on this antique boat. The captain and crew were friendly but not all up in your business, which I really liked--no long, overbearing safety talk or loudspeaker ruining your sail. If you wanna tug on some lines, they'll let you. You see the Portland head lighthouse and a couple of others. We saw some seals on the way out of the harbor. Bought tickets for 4 people the day of without any problem. We were thinking about riding the ferry over to Peaks, and still would have done that if we had time, but if you've only got time for one boat excursion, this one is well-worth the price tag.
aimee coffin
Relaxing and interesting sail on Bagheera! My husband got to raise the sail AND sail the schooner! Watch for seals poking their cute heads up. Crew was great and informative!
Steve Wellmann
Great boat and crew. We had a fabulous time
William Haynes
Great crew/staff but if the wind isn't blowing a steady 10 -12 knots then don't book your trip. Our vessel had no power (2 of three vessels operated do have engines and can power themselves out of dead wind areas) and basically our trip was straight out about one nautical mile and then straight back to the point that they used a small power boat to push the schooner to the dock. No close pass by any landmarks. I know Portland Schooner Company can't control the wind but I honestly walked off the dock thinking what a waste of my money and limited time.
Lara Mayer
Went on a sunset sail on the Bagheera and it couldn't have been more perfect. Weather was great and it was a weekday evening so it wasn't crowded at all, we got a nice view of the bay, forts and lighthouses. The captain and Kayla and Kaylie were just the right combination of friendly and professional. The boat itself is beautiful and impeccably kept. It was the perfect way to wrap up our visit to Maine!
Chelsea Donahue
My sister and I took a sunset cruise on the Bagheera with my 9 year old daughter. It was a first for all of us and we could not have had a more amazing time. The crew was delightful and happy to allow my daughter into the cockpit to learn about the wheel, phrases they use to work the sails, about the gps system and she helped them steer for almost the entire trip. I am so glad we decided to do this and we will absolutely be back next summer. Thank you guys so much! You made my daughters summer for sure.
Genie Tricarico
We did the sunset cruise on July 24th what a nice time we had. The winds were great, the views were ok because of foggy conditions. The crew did a fantastic job Emma and Haley are two hard working girls!
Vincent Harr
A great ride. We went for about 2 hours, and the crew was friendly and informative. We were there while they had two of their older schooners in port as well, and got to ride on one a hundred years old, and in amazing shape.
Bring your own food and drinks. Though some of the local guides say they have a bar onboard, that might only be one of the ships. Ours certainly didn't, no that that detracted anything from the ride.
C Helfrich
It was a lovely ride in the middle of a pandemic. Happy birthday to me.
Vlad Sokolovsky
First time doing this and it was an awesome, unforgettable experience. The crew was very nice, they asked for volunteers to help put the sails up which was cool. The weather was perfect and the views were amazing!
Katie Nall Clark
We bought tickets for the 2 hour sailboat ride. Everyone else who purchased tickets for that time cancelled. Instead of telling us we had to join a different sail time with other people, we had a private sailboat ride. EXCELLENT experience and staff. Can't say enough nice things! Thanks, Portland Schooner Co! :)
Lynn Savage
We had such a wonderful time sailing on the ocean with Portland Schooner Co. everyone was so informative and knowledable. Our Air B and B host recommended it and I’ve recommended it to friends. It is a must do when in the Portland area.
Daniel Peterson
Sunset cruise was the best way to spend a sunny summer evening in Portland!! Tremendous views and fresh sea air! Highly accommodating crew. BYOB and snacks is highly recommended!
Frederick Writt
Absolutely delightful experience! Being a hi-functioning paraplegic, I was a bit apprehensive about getting aboard unscathed. My fears turned out to be totally unfounded, as the skipper (a Mighty Sailing Man) and crew (brave and sure) made every accommodation, and I boarded with ease and was safely nestled in the abundant cockpit.
Once the hearty crew hoisted the sails, we caught the light southwesterly breeze, and the Wendemeer slid out of Portland Harbor into Casco Bay like a hot knife through warm butter.
Once it became known that it was my wife's birthday, the wine and chocolate were broken out, as were the cameras. All in all, a wonderful experience. We'll definitely go again, soon!
Allison Howard
We were able to book a sail same-day and had an awesome crew. A wonderful way to see Maine, particularly on a hot day.
Stephen Carmona
We had a wonderful life experience on the schooner cruising the bay. The crew was incredibly professional. We visited during the Covid-19 (situation). Kudos to Amanda the captain and her crew.
Eddie Camara
Great day out on the boat and the bay, the crew were fantastic and very easy to talk to. They answered several questions about the boat, sailing, as well as the islands in the bay.
Would totally recomend this as a great way to spend a couple of hours.
Enjoy !!!

Oct is way too cold. And shipmates had nothing to say about the Portland area unless asked. Very short explanation of what to expect and only because of safety issues. Otherwise it was great!

Very fun experience. Inexpensive day trip. Walk for exercise, rent a golf cart, or bring your car and drove around the island.
Walking gives the best experience.
