Reviews of Italian Market Visitor Center
Popular name for the South 9th Street Curb Market, an area of South Philadelphia featuring many grocery shops, cafes, restaurants, bakeries, cheese shops, butcher shops, etc., many with an Italian influence. Good place to buy fresh groceries at a very good price. All shops are family run and staff are friendly. Became famous with the movie Rocky as the character lived in the area and run on that street. Go to the visitors center to get info about the area and buy souvenirs.
An interesting place to visit. Both eye popping and sketchy. A must visit during the day. Emphasis on day time.
Loved the italian market
Super awesome lil' spot right in the heart of the Italian neighborhood. Everything you'd imagine from the sweet lil Italian ladies, kindness, love and humor like no where else. Definitely worth a stop in, buy yourself a cute keepsake and support these beautiful people and culture.
Very friendly, excellent quality. Will definitely return!
Wonderful market with lots of colorful store front stalls and stores selling everything from meat, seafood, produce, cheese, sausage, spices, kitchen accoutrements, live poultry, etc. There are a couple of wonderful cafes too. The stalls are covered so if it’s raining you won’t get wet. Parking is limited but not too hard to find.
From produce to quality meats and fish. Great prices on quality products also appreciation for the customer these vendors care about quality its not a super store where the people waiting on you cash their 8hr a day check with no care for service. Your dealing directly with the owners in most cases, you get great service so you will return for future business
This is more about the entire Italian market than just the visitors center. Absolutely a "must" for any foodie visiting Philly. The shops are great with locally produced delicacies. From breads to salami to pasta, meats and even seafood the market street was a fantastic walk, ending in Pat's and Genos steaks. I had to squeeze this in in a Monday, and many great places were closed, so I plan to revisit on a Tuesday, or Wednesday, and cook all my finds.
It is like a little synopsis of the Italian market. Great advice for a new time visitor, information about the history, interesting and detailed stories about the shops. Have been going every couple of months for over 20 years. I love the Italian market!!!!❤!
Great prices and variety for seafood, meats, fruits and veggies! Plus I think of the movie Rocky as he is running thru the 9th street market area waving at the vendors as they shout their hellos. Once I was lucky to see a crew actually filming a guy jogging like in the movie.
Great place to learn about the IM (Italian Market) and it's history. Also to find local info on local eateries and events. Also great merchandise to buy for tourist and locals alike. This is where you should start if you visit the market. Get the history and grab a map. Also a great little boutique for souvenirs and local merchandise.
I came to view this area from the "Rocky" movies, but haven't actually bought anything.
My husband and I both love to cook. We frequent the Italian Market for specialty items (gouda cheeses, olives and special oils). Yes, you can get these items elsewhere, but spice it up a bit with the extra flavor. My husband is the pasta maker in our house and loves the variety. Additionally, there are seafood markets and meat markets that will give you cuts the way you like em. Tried bone marrow from one of the shops and the hubby said that it lived up to the hype. On a warm spring/summer day, just take a walk through the shops, check out the fruit and veggie stands, grab at bite at one the many restaurants (try Sabrina's on Christian St) and then get your fish/meat/breads/Olive oils for later in that evening. Don't forget the wine!
Love love love the Italian market. You'll find everything you could need for a large home cooked meal or a small gourmet meal. From end to end you'll find everything you need and lots of things you didn't think you need, but too good to pass by.
Love to shop at the Italian Market. We always get our food buy the bulk. It ranges from fruit, vegetables, seafood, to meats. Great place to shop.
Definitely with the trip, I drive 90+ mins!
Fresh produce, an unbeatable selection of cheeses, handmade pasta and my favorite bakery outside of NY (Sarcone's). Throw in good pizza, cheesesteak and authentic Italian restaurants and you've got a great shopping trip. CLOSED MONDAY! Check if you're going to a specific location, some open 7 days.
Lose a star for a lack of parking during busy times.
Canelli Brothers "the house of pork" & "the House of Chicken" (which is right next door) is the best meat stores in Philadelphia their cuts are Supreme their own seasoning and preservative of natural papaya juice is uncanning and helps your meat stay fresher longer in the freezer I really enjoyed my rump roast that I made the other day that I received from them and their prices are very reasonable I would suggest that when you go down to the Italian market you checked out this business
This small actual visitor center sits in a storefront directly across from the Frank Rizzo mural. Has a bathroom and a variety of souvenirs for purchase. Friendly staff and is air-conditioned to provide relief on those sweltering summer days.
Outstanding market, good prices on poultry, beef, sausage, fish, olive oil, grated cheese, fresh ingredients for homemade lasagna, freshly baked breads, cappuccino, kitchen supplies, cheese's, olives, pasta, basalmic vinagers, spices, and you can sit outside and have a cheesesteaks, tripe, pork & sharp provalone and watch the crowd.
This is the real, spicy Italian food! Always fresh and tasty products and warm atmosphere. Finally something which brings variety, opposite to the boring American stores!
This place is amazing, my husband and I got there to check around and walked out with two big bags full of delicious cheese, sausages and fresh vegetables and fruits. It's worth to go if you're in Philly
The first time I walked through this area it was during dusk and it seemed very scary...like I really didn't belong there. Everything was closed down and I really didn't know what it was. The second time I went by it was a bustling place with fresh produce everywhere.
The underappreciated culinary center of Philly. Best place to buy produce in all of Philadelphia. You can find anything you need for any meal, any time of year within blocks, this includes, Italian, Vietnamese, Mexican, Chinese.
Nice place to visit, and visitor center lady was so nice. We did a food tour. Should try tomato pie at Sarcone's bakery.
The food shopping is not what it was when I was younger, but the atmosphere is still there and Fantes, the Spice shop and the restaurants make it worth the trip. Go and meander, you will love it.
I can see why everyone loves this place. Good food to eat there or great grocery selections to take home and do yourself.
This place is great. The woman working was very helpful with lots of knowledge about the surrounding shops and we got some cool Philadelphia coasters for our apartment.
One of the original open air produce markets still left! The Italian specialty stores and butcher shops alone make it worth it to shop here.
I spend 2 years in Italy and believe me this is one of the few markets where you can find authentic Italian goods. It is not close to my house but it's worth the drive.
They are always so nice here and have fun souvenirs. They have a public restroom which I appreciate so, so much especially since many places as the market don't.
Italian market is like going back in time. The sights and the smells (good and bad) expect to want to eat and bring home some good food, make sure you go early the vendors leave in the afternoon!!
If you like to cook the Italian market is a absolute must. The Freshess of Fruit and Meats are incredible.
Great to go shopping for meats desserts pasta and the best sandwiches at GEORGES. WINDOW SERVICE TOO BEST MEATBALL SANDWICH IN PHILLY!!! Claudios for cheese yummy !!!
Competitive prices. Quality fruits and veggies. There are plenty of vendors, so take your time finding the best quality for the best price.
Italian market is AMAZING. I visit it at least 2 a week. The visitor center is a little touristy, but they offer nice information.
A very cool shop with some cool Italian gifts and a wonderful lady works here. I'll be back.
They have tours gifts and it's like a rest stop cute place and the people r so nice
My favorite store is Dibruno Brothers. The best cheese, olives, dried sausages with a large selection of imported olive oils and vinegars.
The woman working was so kind, helpful and accommodating. She recommended Ralph's which was amazing!
Good is the market. Get that fruit and vegetables, stock up on meats. Prices are what you want year round.
The Italian market has everything you need food wise and things to make food and lots of good food and coffee to buy right there
I love this little place! it has a nice Italian feel to it and can help you find what you need on the street.
This place is much smaller than I expected but it's a convenient pit spot if you need to use the bathroom.
Great prices on produce, meats, fish. Outside Market atmosphere. Everything Italian!
Great place to go both dor tourists and locals. The restaurants there are very authentic as well.
The lady inside was real friendly and helpful. She suggested where to eat and visit, and they were great!
The italiam market was fun and exciting. You can find just about anything you are looking for and every vendor was friendly.

It's not Christmas without a trip to the Italian market. Claudios, diBrunos,Talluttos and Espositos are all regular stops.
Got to visit during the festival...it was one of the highlights of our trip. Authentic italian food throughout several blocks.
A busy street full of permanent produce and food vendors. Very fun! Markets like this are very rare in the US.
Where else would you find everything you need for the perfect taste of Italy! Reminds me of my Brooklyn beginnings!
Great place to shop fresh produces but also to buy Italian specialties and to just wander and buy literature.
The Spice Store!! So many ways to get good eats going...can't beat this place with a stick!
Make sure to stop in the Visitors Center while visiting the Italian Market. Best gifts and Best staff!
It really is a street market and not some hipster popup fad. I was very happy to have gone there.
I have purchased meats, poultry seafood and veggies in the community for 30 + years.. Great place.
Where great food and history combine. Some of the movie Rocky was filmed there.
It's still good, but it used to be great. A lot has changed since Rocky Balboa ran through the market.

WONDERFUL♡♡♡♡

The 'Italy Market' is considered a landmark in Philadelphia, so visit it. Unfortunately we could not feel Italian flair. But is still a worthwhile walk from the train station combined with other sights.
