This tour was EXCELLENT!! Definitely one of the highlights of our stay in NYC! Greg was fun and lively. He was also very knowledgeable about the Greenwich Village area. The tastings on our Italian food tour were AWESOME! We took the tour on my brother's birthday and Greg certainly made sure to make him feel special! I'm a college adjunct at the University of Texas at Austin's NYC campus and teach a course about urban communication. As part of the learning experience, I wanted to give students a field trip. After contacting Greg Marro, I knew that I'd made the perfect selection of a guide. He asked for the syllabus and worked to make sure the tour was educational, relevant to the course subject matter -- and yet still fun. Greg more than delivered. He wove the idea of both musical spaces as a place for urban communication -- but also, through family stories and historical sites, stressed the importance of dialogue over coffee. It was genius, really. The students loved the tour -- Greg is a riveting storyteller. I'll definitely use Greg Walks NYC for future semesters!

Had a great time at Greg Walks NYC. The area itself is charming with lots of great places to nosh- Greg takes you to the best ones. He is very gregarious with lots of great NY stories and history. Greg is a wealth of knowledge. He took us on a tour by ourselves, yes that's right, he didn't cancel the tour because he only had one booking. For me this tour was far more about learning about the oppression of the lgbtqia+ community than it was about the food. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and we would definitely recommend it.

Maybe I'm biased as Italian food is my absolute favourite, but the places that Greg took us to were amazing. My mum felt like she was back in Italy (where she is from)! We got a taste of everything from savoury to sweet to coffee, and everything we ate was delicious. Greg was super friendly and knowledgable, giving us an incredible tour around Greenwich. He has picked some amazing places to visit and has a great relationship with all of the shop owners and locals which was lovely to see. We never felt under time pressure, as we were given plenty of time to sit down and enjoy our food whilst chatting to Greg. There wasn't too much walking either, so suitable for those looking for a more relaxing walking tour. You definitely won't leave hungry and I cannot recommend it enough.

His tour of the Italians of Greenwich is a better deep dive into the “Real New York” with a touch of family history. We were lucky to go on a tour with a lifelong friend of his and their family along with him bumping into friends and neighbors he has known for years. Was the food great that we were able to sample? Yes, but the best part was Greg. My wife and I don’t feel as if we went on a tour with a guide. It felt like we went on a day trip with a person we knew for years. Both my wife and I are leaving NY with a new found friend and recommend him as the best tour you can get. YOU NEED TO BOOK WITH GREG and get the experience. Thank you Greg for the memories.

If you've seen all the touristy things and want to learn more about the "real" NY, then take his "Italians of Greenwich Village Food Tour"! Greg is an enthusiastic, engaging tour guide because of his long-time family connection to the neighborhood. It's almost like you are some out-of-town friends (only 5 were in our tour) that he's showing around the neighborhood, tasting authentic Italian foods along the way (some of which are from "hole-in-the-wall" places you would have walked right by) while explaining the area's history. Based on how fun this was, I would heartily recommend "Greg Walks NYC" tour company.

Delicious! Greg chose a wonderful variety of sweets for our tour including some excellent renditions of classic treats (gelato, cupcakes) and some sweets we'd never tried before including Brazilian treats and Taiwanese coconut buns (my personal favorite). He was a great guide and we (family of 3 including teenage son) enjoyed exploring the areas around Bleeker street with him and learning about the area. We were looking for a food tour that would let us experience the variety of great foods in NYC (more than just the pizza and bagel tours) and this totally fit the bill!

I recently went on the Pierogi Walk with Greg. I was nothing short of gobsmacked!!! I have been a denizen of Greenwich Village for more than 35 years and frequently attend cultural events in the city. This tour is hands down one of the 10 most exciting things I have ever done. It far, far exceeded all my expectations. Greg's research is exhaustive and he weaves it into the most engaging, exhilarating and hilarious narrative. The food is delicious and the venues are thrilling. Basically the tour is like going on the Cyclone at Coney Island! That thrilling! I used to live in New York and go back regularly for the Holidays. This past Holiday wanted to do something different with my friends so a friend who I was traveling with recommended a walking tour. I kinda laughed considering how long I had lived in NY and never did a walking tour. My friend found Greg Walks NY on google and wanted to try it. I was a bit reluctant , but decided to do it. We arrived and Greg met all 4 of us and took us on a 2 hour tour of The Village and even sang to us.. I was surprised at how much I learned and not a skeptic of walking tours anymore. Greg was really entertaining.. I never write reviews but thought I would because of the experience we had. Great fun.

Mesmerizing tour... Greg is not only an expert on the general history of his neighorhood, but he highlights SoHo spots that are milestones in American music history, such as Cafe Wha?, where the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, and a very young Bruce Springsteen played. And don't worry if you are not a music historian... Greg provides wonderful commentary and music samples so that you are never lost! This tour is spontaneous, interactive, and loads of fun, as Greg's expertise comes from his love of the area and his own family history. The tour also includes the former site of the Cafe San Remo, which was owned by his family! This place really blew me away,as its regulars included Gore Vidal, William Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg, Dylan Thomas, Frank O'Hara, and Miles Davis, among others... a real thrill! The stroll down Minetta Lane and Greg's tales of the Beat Generation are not to be missed! He will even show you famous street corners and play songs and show pictures related to their historical significance (and he sings, which is really fun)! Greg's pictures also set this tour apart... he has fascinating photos from years ago of many spots on the tour. He really shows you how the neighborhood has evolved. All in all, this was one of the most entertaining experiences that I have had in New York... and I am a regular visitor! Not only do you learn about the area's Italian heritage, musical history, and literary significance, you also get meatballs at the end! Do yourself a favor and immerse yourself in some Soho history with this fantastic tour!

Greg Walks gave an amazing tour of the vestiges of Italian culture remaining in the West Village. As a 40 year inhabitant of the city, I was skeptical that this tour would teach me anything I didn't know. Boy, was I gobsmacked! His knowledge of NY history, from colonial times to present, combined with his jocular style make this an excellent afternoon. Oh, and the bites along the way are just as good. GO GO GO !

Wonderfully F-U-N food tour with the engaging and knowledgeable “Walking Greg Marro” replete with yummy pierogis, scrumptious kielbasa, luscious NY egg creams and ‘cawfee’ (or tea, if preferred)!! Learned much about the Yiddish roots of the neighborhood and its rock n’ roll/disco past all the while enjoying the camaraderie of my fellow travelers, sharing stories, laughs and delicious treats along the way. We had a very enjoyable tour with Greg. The stories, the humour were all good, and the places Greg took us to, fantastic. We came away with lasagne and when Greg heard we only had a microwave to reheat he went and got some microwave dishes for us and have us some excellent tips how to better reheat. The lasagne was delicious and I'd have it again. Greg stopped briefly to chat with some fellow locals. It was clear he was well known and respected in the area.
