I did two of these tours in Downtown and Little Italy and China Town with Lori and John. Both tours were fun, informative, and had some really good stories about NYC people. I recommend everyone to take Free Tours by Foot when you will visit NYC.
Fräulein Sonnenschein
It was a wonderful tour through Brooklyn heights and the Brooklyn bridge with John. We truly can recommend it and we would do it again if we are in New York for another great vacation. We loved the story’s about Brooklyn heights and the Brooklyn bridge.

This was our 3rd NYC tour with this company. Can't recommend them and their guides enough. Yesterday we enjoyed the Brooklyn Bridge, Brooklyn Heights, and DUMBO tour with Kyle. He is very knowledgeable and personable.
SLJ Chapter Leader
Kyle was a great tour guide. He was personable and interesting. I went with my in laws who were visiting from out of town, but as a New Yorker, I learned a lot too. Such a great way to see a neighborhood. I'll definitely take another.
Claire Ross
Great sunset tour of Brooklyn bridge and dumbo with John on Sunday, it was absolutely pouring rain at the start but John reassured us that he would give us the full tour regardless of the weather for turning up and that is exactly what he did, we had a great time and thankfully just as we were crossing the Brooklyn bridge the rain stopped and didn’t return for the remainder of the tour. Will definitely recommend to our friends or family.
Carlos De Sousa
Amazing tour given by the tour guide John Gallagher. His knowledge of New York is extensive and he was able to provide a couple of surprises along the way you won't get from other tours. Highly recommend the Christmas light tour.
Emily Lunnon
We did two walking tours this week and LOVED both of them! John’s twilight Brooklyn Bridge and Brooklyn heights tour was magical and the stories totally fascinating. It’s clear he loves his city! Kyle’s Central Park tour was also awesome with such an amazing range of history and great humour with every stop! For any part of the city, FreeTours delivers. Highly recommend!!
Sandra Maxwell
Outstanding! Took the Lower East Side food tour with Jon and it was interesting, fun and delicious. Jon is a fantastic tour guide, you will not be disappointed!!!
Adzuira Musule
The tour was amazing. John Gallagher is very knowledgeable and very friendly. He took us to many points of interest in the Brooklyn area. He has a great sense of humor and had a good pacing. 100% recommended.

We took Harlem with Altovise, Central Park all in one 3 hours tour with Kyle, NYC Downtown with Nick and Brooklyn Bride, Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO with John, last week and had a great time 👍 We visited all iconic places and some others secret ones. Altovise, Kyle, Nick and John gave us lots of interesting information about the city. Such nice and fun lady and guys and guides. The ☔️ was no big deal and we enjoyed anyway 😍 We recommend 100% 👍🍎🗽🚖🇱🇷❤️

I had a wonderful time on both of my Free Tours by Foot! I took the Chinatown/Little Italy food tour with Kathleen and the East Village food tour with Jon. Both were phenomenal. I got a lot of historical information and delicious food on both tours. They give you the inside tips on the best food and bring the city to life. They know the back story to all the beautiful and interesting buildings/parks/locales. You'd just walk past these things unknowingly most likely otherwise. Both Kathleen and Jon demonstrated impeccable planning and coordination to order and get the food, along with providing an interesting tour. I definitely couldn't do both as well as they do! I paid $20 for the tours. These are very hard working people and that felt like a great deal to me, comparatively. From asking around this felt like a fair amount compared to what others were going to pay. One older couple told me they have taken Free Tours By Foot for many years and they've all always been amazing. Do it!

Took part in the Harlem tour with Lady Altovise. She was so knowledgeable, friendly and very clearly passionate about the tour and neighborhood. We learned so much about the rich cultural history of Harlem and the difficult but inspiring past. Highly recommend. This was one of my highlights being a repeat visitor to New York City. Cannot say enough good things.
Melany Cattaini
Having John as our tour guide was one of my best experiences in NYC. Crossing the Brooklyn Bridge and walking along the neighborhood while learning about its history and fun facts it was wonderful. I highly recommend to take this tour with him!
david kelly
My family took a paid tour of the Christmas lights in Dyker Heights. It was money well spent. We were lucky enough to have a superlative guide in Aline. She was knowledgable, witty and always willing to take a pic for you. I highly recommend any of these tours.
Andy C
Did the All In One Central Park tour which was amazing! Tour guide Kyle was very friendly and informative and showed us areas of the park we wouldn’t normally go to, plus all the beautiful, classic areas. Would highly recommend and it’s a really great way to explore NYC!
Jami Wermuth
I did the Brooklyn Bridge tour with John. It was a great tour. Lots of good information and amazing views. Highly recommend.
Sarah Safeer
We did the Free Tours by Foot East Village food and walking tour with Jon. It was amazing! Jon did a great job of combining history, food, and comedy in the 2.5 hour tour.
Donna Hudson
We took the walking tour of Brooklyn Bridge, DUMBO & Brooklyn Heights on October 14 with Renae & it was great. She is a wonderful guide & is very knowledgeable of history & architecture. This is the 3rd tour we have taken with her & have enjoyed them all.
We Also took the Greenwich Village food tour with Lori & had so much fun. Lori included the history of the area as well as the history of the food/restaurants. It gave me a chance to sample foods I had never tried before. She was very knowledgeable & interesting.
Nicole True
Lower East Side Food tour! You gotta go. Jon is an excellent guide. Learn history and eat delicious food like knishes, pickled mango, bagel with lox, and fried dumplings! Also check out the Brooklyn Bushwick Street Art tour with Mar. He breaks down the history of graffiti and walks through the mural district. Five stars for both. Highly recommend!
Radka Todorova
We booked the Midtown Manhattan Free Walking Tour by Foot for Thursday night. Our guide, "wandaful" Wanda, was amazing! Fun, informative, full of knowledge for NYC, she led our group with a passion. The 2-hr tour started at Grand Central Terminal and ended at the Rockefeller Center. It was one of the highlights of our 3-day trip to NYC. Check out their scheduled free tour walks early, as they book out quickly. Highly recommend!
Jenny Bankie
Great tour! I was concerned 6 hours would be tiring, but it went by fast! Would recommend as a intro to NYC. Covered many lower Manhattan disticts and a variety of history. May take other tours if time allows. Re: New York One Day Tour with Kyle
Ponnatcha K
I joined 3 tours with Kyle, Lori and John and it was amazing. The guides are very knowledgeable and passionate. They have so many things to tell about this city. It's the best thing I did in NYC. There are so many tours you can join. I joined Soho & Chinatown, Chelsea & High Line and Manhattan Night Walk. I totally recommend them. They are the best and they give you the liberty to pay whatever you feel like, for high value experience.

We had fabulous tour in Soho, Little Italy and Chinatown today with John Gallagher. John was funny, warm, very informative, carrying...We could not asked for a better guide. We will definitely look John up, next time we visit the city.
Nashtradamus
Had an amazing tour of Grand Central Station - John was lovely and so inclusive and welcoming. He has a wealth of knowledge and was funny! Well worth the time. Thanks John
Ryan Treanor
Amazing walking tours. Had the opportunity to complete three tours, Downtown Manhattan, Greenwich Village and Brooklyn Bridge/ DUMBO.
I was guided on all three by Renee who was excellent.
She had great local knowledge and interesting stories which you would never know by just looking up areas online.
Highly recommend when you want to add that local insight when exploring New York!!
Chellee Brown
We took two tours with John during our visit to NYC and both were major highlights of our trip! I highly recommend the twilight tour across the Brooklyn bridge into Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO. John had it timed perfectly so we hit an amazing view of Manhattan right as the sun was setting. Can’t wait to tour some other areas on our next visit!
Patrick M. Moakley
My brother and I took the Brooklyn bridge tour with John. He was extremely knowledgeable, warm and resourceful. Overall fantastic! I can’t wait to go on a new journey with him!
Stacey Kennington
Took 9/11 tour with guide John Gallagher. Having taken this tour 5 years ago with a different guide, it was great to get some different information or stories. The Memorial area continues to build and expand and these guides keep up on their information. John keep a good pace, not too fast and we ended just in time for the last entry to the Museum. He had also provided us in advance with info of free entrance on Mondays, but also how hard it is to get that ticket. Nice tour, I recommend it.
Amy Lister
We took this tour in the evening; it made for a great date night night in the middle of a family vacation. Watching the sunset over the skyline after walking the Brooklyn Bridge and hearing the history of the area was a wonderful experience. John was a perfect guide and gave spot on suggestions for food/cocktails at nearby spots to end the night when the tour concluded. This was definetly worth the time and somrthing not to miss if you want to get an authentic view/experience of this part of the city.
MIK
Kyle is simply wonderful. Loved that he recommends places. We came back to Chinatown, it was good. The time, the places, the stories are just perfect. We were lucky to have a cloudy day, otherwise it would've been very hot. Thanks Kyle, you really ace at this.
chritina
Excellent New York 1 day tour and Twilight Brooklyn, Brooklyn Heights and Dumbo!!! Very much worth it and enjoyed every minute of both tours! Our guides Garrett and John were both excellent and provided many historical facts of New York, Manhattan, Brooklyn and USA! John also went the extra mile and provided some extra information of location and places via email after the tour which was so helpful and much appreciated!!! A tour by true New Yorkers who know the city and the American history very well!! Both are so talented and lovely!! Highly recommended!! We hope to visit again New York and do more tours with you!!!
David Wright
This is our second Free Tour by Foot, and another wildly excellent success. Kyle was so great, speaking to our group like we were friends out for a walk, patiently taking questions, digging into the history and development of Central Park, and sharing stories with enthusiasm and passion. I would be ALL IN on another foot tour, and definitely another one with Kyle. He did mention he offers a 4-hour and even a 6-hour tour (!!!). I should look into that.
Lisa G
Amazing tour experience with Kyle - super engaging, full of insights and well planned routes (there was a guy in our group who was doing same tour for the second time
Iol - this tells something about how good this tour is!) I will definitely go back and very grateful for the superb experience.
Sniffer P
We recently went on the Brooklyn Bridge Twilight walk with our Tour Guide John Gallagher. This was a wonderful walk with a very knowledgeable guide who told us all about the history of the bridge and the suburb of Brooklyn Heights. Fantastic views as the sun sets of the Manhattan skyline. Would definitely recommend this tour. John really made the experience a very informative and fun tour. Well done !
Wendy
John was fantastic! This tour of Soho, Little Italy and Chinatown was by far the best part of our weekend visit to NYC. All the wonderful bits of information along with some great personal stories made it truly memorable. John took the time to get to know each participant between stops where he then would address the group as a whole. He had it all down to a science.... The 2+ hours flew by. Many thanks John!
Ginny Frisky (Carmen)
That was an amazing tour. Our guide John Gallagher really loves his city, showed us all the nice and interesting places. Plus he had so many good suggestions for eating, visiting etc. He even sent us an email with all the tipps afterwards.
The tour was so interesting, I learned so many interesting facts, but I never felt like it was too much. It was an amazing tour (Brooklyn Bridge/ Dumbo) I would recommend very strongly!
Sheri Young
What a fantastic experience! We just completed the Twilight Brooklyn walking tour with John Gallagher. We're locals and have done many tours over the years and this was probably one of the best. We learned a LOT, and not the typical touristy stiff either. John was attentive and personable and followed up with group photos and tips for restaurants and more. Don't miss this tour!
Abby Hartman
I could have spent a whole day touring with John Gallagher! His knowledge and history of New York City is exceptional. John has a knack for captivating his audience with stories that will make your Big Apple experience a truly memorable one. My recent tour with him was of Little Italy, SoHo, and China Town but I also had John as my tour guide on another Big Apple tour a few years ago, and it was just as enthralling. I have always been impressed by Free Tours by Foot; seeking them out in all corners of the world. New Orleans, Paris, Berlin, SanFrancisco to mention a few. I highly recommend you book a tour with them; their talented tour guides will not disappoint.
Sherie Green
Great tour with Kyle Learning all about Soho, little Italy, and Chinatown! His recommendations for food after were spot on
Efrat Wechsler
We did 2 tours with John. Was great. Super interesting and enjoyable. We highly recommend.
Cecilia Carisio
I had the 2h tour of soho little Italy and china town with John and it was great. He has the best suggestions and brought us to very nice spots. Bring cash, they do not accept cards for the offer.
Elizabeth McDermid
What a great way to see Brooklyn Bridge, Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO. John (Gallagher) was out guide and was fab. Very knowledgable and patient. Had a great tour and the history was so interesting. He also gave tips on where to eat (for reasonable cost that was good quality). His recommendations did not disappoint. After tour we stayed in DUMBO for lunch at Julianna’s, 19 Old Fulton Street. Pizza was delicious. Then crossed road to Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory! Again not disappointed. I would recommend going on this tour as we found out so much information. I had read website and it said to give what you think tour was worth. It recommends between $7 and $10. There were 3 of us I group. We gave $40 as it was well worth it. I have another 4 tours booked with this company! John has set the bar. I look forward to them and hope they are just as good. This was our first full day in NYC and it kicked off to a great start. Thank you John.
Chris Sampson
First trip to NYC took the Harlem Tour and Lower east side Food Tour. Harlem is a very colorful tour! The Guide Derrick was very knowledgeable about the area, history and places of interest. The community is predominately black so walking the streets on the Harlem tour made us stand out a tad bit. But overall the tour is a great way to explore Harlem. Food choices on the Lower East Side food tour was not very fulfilling or appetizing we had pickles, bagels, ice cream, and something that resembled potstickers. Will try the Greenwich village food tour next time
Lorenzo Matterhorn
Fantastic tour with Kyle, a fantastic guy! Highly recommend it to people who want to get to know details about Lower Manhattan and its history.
Jess Andrews
Our tour guide, Josh, was like the most interesting and knowledgeable history teacher you've ever met. Josh mentioned that he had been leading groups for the Brooklyn bridge DUMBO Brooklyn heights tour for about 10 years. That experience was apparent. I definitely recommend this tour for amazing views and engaging facts and tidbits. This one doesn't disappoint!
Carrie Brayall
Had an amazing Twilight Brooklyn Bridge, Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO tour with John Gallagher. Brooklyn Heights is an enchanting neighbourhood rich with history. The sunset and moonlight views mixed with John’s knowledge of the history behind the views made for a wonderful tour. Highly recommended!
Izabella Anuszewska
Very thought inspiring walk through 9/11 related venues.
John Gallagher - great guide, who walked us through the places and offered very interesting narrative.
Nyasha Franklin
Jon gave us an amazing tour! My family and I ventured downtown from Harlem to take Jon's food walking tour, and we were so happy with all the things we tried and the history we learned. Thank you Jon for an amazing experience!
Stephan Marketsmueller
We did the Brooklyn Bridge Twilight Tour with John. Amazing Stories and beautiful views. Keep in mind that the Tour Start changes with the Time of the year 😉 …
Avni Piro
Highly recommend the twilight Brooklyn tour. We had our guide John who was fantastic and informative!! What a great evening!!
Pat Donehower
I enjoyed the walking tour of SOHO Little Italy and Chinatown with Kyle in mid July. He added such interesting info about the history of each area and architecture- so fascinating that the tour 2 hrs fly by. He made sure to stop our group in shady spots while he talked hence even in hot, sunny weather- it was delightful. I look forward to doing more walking tours with Kyle and his colleagues on future trips to NYC.
monica thapar
Lisa was a great guide and she explained landmark very thorough. Loved the tour and the city too😊 …
Ioanna Chrysospathi
We joined John Gallagher for the Twilight Brooklyn Bridge, Brooklyn Heights and Dumbo tour and it was definitely the best thing we did in NYC. John is very fun and knowledgeable and the tour is carefully designed to see the best of the area, and at the same time learn so many interesting facts about the history of the city. We particularly enjoyed the Brooklyn Heights part. And of course the views at night are breathtaking! Highly recommended to anyone visiting or living in New York. Many thanks, John!
Stephanie Koch
We made the Brooklyn Bridge, Brooklyn Heights and Dumbo-Tour with John and it was fantastic!
Sara Reichman
We took the brooklyn bridge afternoon tour with John. It was great. The guide is excellent, full of sympathetic knowledge and cares for everyone. We saw the sunset from beautiful spots. Highly recommended!
Ana Maria Sanin Escobar
The tours of free tours by foot are a must, in 2 hours you get to know the best places, the history behind everything, things that if you do it by yourself you’ll never know, Kyle was very nice and funny and Renee very passionate for history.
Georgina Bernal-Garcia
My husband and I have visited NYC before (we did the “tourist things”.) This time we wanted to enjoy more of the very diverse and interesting neighborhoods. We took several tours with this company and they were all great. All the guides are knowledgeable and fun. Highly recommend spending your time in NYC with them!! Thank you!!!
Elin Weng
Kyle is AMAZING. I live in NYC for 5 years and still enjoy the tour every minute. I walked the tour with a 1.5 year old baby in the stroller, Kyle is very considerate during the tour towards us. My baby daughter kept clapping and laughing when Kyle was talking and she enjoyed the tour as well
deberdoo1969
John Gallagher was our guide taking us over the Brooklyn Bridge through Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO. He was so informative and provided so many interesting and entertaining stories beyond the typical “historical facts”. I learned so much. He also gave a lot of other helpful tips for those of us visiting this great city. I highly recommend doing his tour. Thanks John!
Pete Barley
John Gallagher led our Thanksgiving Day tour of Soho, Little Italy and Chinatown. John was fantastic and shared great knowledge of the areas, the people and the history. If you get a chance to take a Tours by Foot in NYC and John is your guide, expect a great time and tour.
Martin Ball
Did the NYC Christmas lights with John Gallagher on Sat 10th, it was a great informative tour - got to see lots a great spots and interesting information information about the city and John was a great host!!
Marlie Wasserman
Garrett Shore's tour of Central Park was the highlight of our five-day stay in NYC. He entertained and educated us. My husband's a historian and I write historical fiction set in NYC--we were both impressed that Garrett got the facts straight, while eliminating excessive detail and conveying the main points. Our friends are annoyed because we haven't stopped talking about this wonderful tour.
Megan Gray
Took a Holiday Lights tour with John as leader on Christmas Day. John did a wonderful job! We were literally running late as our dinner plans had been delayed, and John waited as we ran up the sidewalk to join the group. He provided the details, dates, times, and history of the area that one might expect...but also some excellent anecdotes, stories, and fun. John also incorporated a few places to stop and keep warm along the way, as this was one of the coldest days of the season for New York (historically cold, actually), in the single digits - and surprised us with a stop at the Peninsula Hotel for some of the most beautiful holiday decorations in the city. Great views of the Macy's storefront windows, Rockefeller Center, Saks Fifth Avenue light show, The Plaza Hotel, and more.
John provided us photos from a few stops and a list of recommended restaurants, too, via email after our tour. A very good tour that I would recommend.
It is also important that I acknowledge the tour company as it donates to Toys for Tots (deposit fee) and provides tours rain or shine - not always pleasant weather but understanding the schedule of the client. These are important factors when deciding where one might book their time, and I can't recommend Free Tours by Foot more! Thank you for comprehensive guidance and some valuable recommendations of a local. Bravo to John, and to Free Tours by Foot!
Sandra Crews
We took the 9:30 AM Brooklyn Bridge/Brooklyn Heights/DUMBO Tour on October 26, 2022 with John Joseph Gallagher. It was very informative and John was a very knowledgeable and entertaining guide! My husband, daughter, and I really enjoyed our tour!
We also did your 2:00 PM on October 27, 2022 of Greenwich Village/High Line/Chelsea tour with Joey Hannah. He really knows the history of the area and told many entertaining stories. We appreciated learning about the area!
Lei Sun
I took 5pm Brooklyn bridge tour. Our tour guide John was great to lead this big group on this tour. I enjoyed it thoroughly. He even took a big group picture at the end of the tour and emailed us back the picture and a list of restaurants/attractions nearby he recommended. Great service.
Galit Elias
We did the ChinaTown-SOHO-Little Italy tour with John.
He was professional and gave us lots of interesting information about the city and neighborhoods we visited. He was very kind and combined lots of humor in the tour, and gave each of us attention.
Highly recommended.
Andrew Newbold
We had a great time on the Central Park tour with Kyle. He was very welcoming and knowledgeable. His passion for the history and stories of the park really shows as he takes you through the tour. One lady in our group was a local who had been in the park 'hundreds of times' and saw places she had never seen before. Definitely recommend this tour to anyone wanting to learn some history while enjoying the beauty of the park!
4J’s Trust Family
We weren’t really sure what to expect on the Brooklyn Bridge tour, but John exceeded our expectations on this tour. It was wonderful. We really enjoyed our time and look forward to doing another tour with John on a return visit! Highly recommend.
Gal Fisher
I did the SoHo, Little Italy, Chinatown tour with John Gallagher earlier this month. It was very interesting, he showed us the coolest bakeries and joints, gave us local tips and provided a lot of color about the history and life in the different neighborhoods we visited. He even carried a bag with umbrellas for all of us even though there was a marginal chance to rain (which it did so the umbrellas were crucial!). Thanks for a great tour John!
Sean Power
I did the central park tour with Kyle. It was amazing. I would recommend this to anyone who is visiting New York.
Kyle is the man 👍 …
Nikisha Harewood
Recently did the Central Park Walking Tour with Kyle! He was an awesome & knowledgeable tour guide, who kept us all engaged throughout the 4.5 hr tour. He even went the extra mile showing historical pics! My mom & I really enjoyed it! 10/10 would recommend!

We joined John Gallagher, our very charming and informative guide from Free Walking Tours when we visited New York. He led an excellent guided tour of Brooklyn Bridge, Brooklyn Heights and Dumbo. We learned so much about the hidden gems of the area along the way. John is such a font of knowledge and if you are visiting New York, you really can’t afford to miss this tour and the wonderful John. Thank you very much.

Juliette Peters
Highly recommend the Grand Central walking tour. So much history and great views of this building inside and out plus surrounding buildings. John G was excellent. Learned so much in the time spent on the tour. Can't say enough good things.
Alejandra González
Forget Broadway. Book a tour with Garret and you will fulfill your need of world’s top performing acts.
On our first day in NY we said ‘Well, maybe it would be a good idea to book a random tour to know a little bit more about midtown’. But it was like a pringle’s first bite: you feel that you will never be able to stop.
In our 8 days trip we booked 3 tours with Garret, each one longer than the last and even better.
Garret, don't forget us. We will never forget you.
Marcel
The walking tour through SoHo, Little Italy and Chinatown led by John Gallagher was amazing! Think there is no better chance to get interesting facts & insights about NYC!
Great experience and highly recommended!

Amazing tour with Jon! We had a group of 7 and arrived a bit late due to subway delays but Jon helped us find the group fast. He was informative, funny and helpful. We had to make a reservation and prepay because we were such a large group and it is definitely worth it.

I joined 8 different tours while visiting to NYC: Brooklyn w/ Kyle, Soho w/ Kyle, Greenwich w/ Lori, Rockfeller w/ Meredith, Harlem w/ Altovise, Bushwick Graffiti w/ Mar, Grand Central Terminal w/ John, and Lower Manhattan w/ Renee. I want to give them all 5 stars. All tour guides were very informative, friendly, and helpful. Many information from different tours was overlapped, but it was fun to connect them in a big picture like a puzzle. Plus, it was good to hear NYC history from people with different view points. My friend loved the Graffiti tour. Mar shared his experience and deep thoughts as a local artist. Listening from locals with the 1st hand experience is precious. In this sense, I really loved Altovise's Harlem tour and Lori's Greenwich tours. Meredith, John, and Renee also provided passionate explanations and took a group picture while taking the tours and send them to us right away. Those were awesome souvenirs from the tours. I really appreciate them. The Brooklyn tour with Kyle also was very good.
Bethany B
I had the wonderful experience of taking the 4-hour (I think?) tour with Kyle in early December. I had been to NYC before but not gotten to see a lot of places outside of midtown Manhattan. I love walking tours in general but had never done one this long, so I was a bit worried how that would go. In the end it felt much shorter than it was. Kyle was fantastic - very knowledgeable and easy to keep up with. He was patient despite some in the group being pretty slow. He knew where all the good food and bathroom stops were. He engaged with locals when they wanted to in an interesting and respectful way that added to our experience. I had a truly great time on this tour, I learned a lot and got to see a lot, and would absolutely do it again.
Jacksonville is still waiting to host you, Kyle. Come on down. ;)
Anthony Friedman
This was fantastic. John was a great guide, shared many interesting stories, had many great recommendations for other places/restaurants, and we got to see a ton of lights in various places. Once you take this tour, you will definitely be in the Christmas spirit. It was one of the highlights of our trip, and I recommend it to anyone who will be in the city during this time of year. A+!
Molly Aalyson
We had a blast on the Holiday Lights Tour with John Gallagher. He managed to keep 20 people together and moving along through the holiday crowds while entertaining us and sharing tips about other things to do and places to eat in NYC. A great experience for New Yorkers and out-of-towners alike.
Inbal Ovadia

What better could be spent on New Year’s Day! Weather beautiful & clear & despite the crowds John led the way with his colorful wrapping paper “wand.” The Holiday Light tour was fabulous & John knew extensive info.past & present re: sights & lights🥳👍🏻👏 Thank you & will definitely take more of your tours😊 …

Thanks Jon to bring this great experience for our family! ❤️❤️❤️

Even though it was a bit rainy the tour was just super interesting and vibes were great!
Kyle even gave us some recommendations for restaurants in the area and it was just authentic and perfect!
Strongly recommend, go with Kyle, great time guaranteed!

Great, great, GREAT tour. It IS a WALK. 3+ hours on your feet, but well worth it. 1/2 or less is crossing the bridge, the rest criss-crossing the Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO area. John the guide is VERY knowledgeable and informative. I highly recommend this activity as part of any visit to NYC.
Tharindu Weerasooriya
I went on two tours by them. First was the tour with John (Downtown Manhattan) and then food tour with Lori. Both are organised back to back and ending + starting close to each other. (We are all for a budget as broke students)
John was so much fun! He is knowledgeable and knows a lot about the city (while living here for more or less is entire life). We started at Wall Street and then explored around the city. It is bit of a walk and I’d strongly encourage not bringing any heavy luggage/bag. You get to enjoy much of different cultures of New York. You get bit of food experiences at China town and little Italy.
Lori, this food tour is such a foodie experience. Lori has these connections with restaurants so we get samples of their most popular dishes. It is prepared all together neatly and such a great experience. We had pizza to falafel and then after couple of more meals, ended with desert. The two hours just go super fast! We were in for a day and had so much of great experiences and would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting in.
Silvia Nishant Smith
Definitely a highlight of our trip. So easy to schedule, know what to expect, find the meeting place, and enjoy! We had a great food tour that included a half-dozen stops with a wide range of food options (and our guide was great about disclosing dietary needs like vegan, gluten-free, or anything else), and great history in between. Our guide was Jon and he was great to be with, and gave us recommendations for other restaurants and attractions for the rest of our trip, too! Easily one of the best values on our trip.

We loved Free Tours by the Foot! We did Greenwich Village with Renee, Midtown with Garrett, Central Park with Kyle, and Brooklyn with Onel. Every single tour was fantastic! They each had so much knowledge and energy. Can’t recommend enough!
Bill Schwieterman
Grand Central Terminal Tour: JOHN GALLAGHER--our guide, gave a fantastic ~ 2 hour tour yesterday! Informative, pleasant (not too much walking), fun, and enjoyable. What I liked most was John's weaving the history of GCT into the history of New York City. I have a new appreciation of the beauty and history of this magnificent edifice, and highly recommend this tour, especially if done by John!
Vrinda Dube
Took two tours in NYC - Brooklyn with John and Downtown Manhattan with Nick. Both yours were really well done - engaging, funny, and insightful. The guides were passionate about the stories they told and it was a great way to spend a few hours getting to know the city better! Highly recommended :)
Cynthia Kohn
John do d a wonderful job on the Grand Central Station tour. I learned so many secrets and facts about Grand Central! This is a must do tour!!
Lauri Clark
Great holiday lights tour! John was an awesome tour guide and we used all his “tips and tricks” to NYC while we were there!
Neela Kaushik
Listen to the most interesting stories that make NY so special, from John Gallagher. He keeps it informative, fun and engaging. It was the coldest night this season yet our family -we decided to go on the 'Christmas Lights Tour' with John Gallagher... We are glad we did. Highly recommend tours by him.
Margaret Flannery
What a fun experience we had with our tour of Grand Central Terminal on Sunday Dec 4 2022. John Joseph Gallagher was excellent. He made GCT come alive with his stories. Would definitely take another tour with him as well as your company. Looking forward to booking more tours in the future.
Gil Wolfe
John Gallagher was entertaining and full of information about Grand Central and Manhattan Island in general. Enjoyed the 2 hour tour with him.
Brenda Beehler
John was an excellent tour guide. He was very knowledgeable, personable, helpful, fun and easy to follow. I would recommend this as a must do in New York City.
Fraser Brown
We took 3 tours while visiting New York City and loved them all. Each guide was terrific - so many intriguing stories!
Mark Vita
We did the Midtown walking tour of NYC on a recent visit. Kyle, our guide, was excellent, very knowledgeable and informative. And it is hard to beat the value for the money (free, with an option to pay whatever you think it was worth). I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting NYC.
Natalie Maritz
My fiancé and I took two tours while in NYC this weekend. The first was the Holiday Lights in Manhattan with John Gallagher - this man was very informative and had a wealth of knowledge about anything and everything. He cared a lot about keeping the group engaged and being able to relate to what he was teaching us. 100% would recommend a tour with him.
Next was the Harlem tour with Ryan Council, so much great info packed into these two hours. At one point a Harlemite themselves stood at a street corner while Ryan talked about an important historical figure and as we crossed the street she applauded him. That’s how I felt the entire tour. He was so passionate and knowledgeable about Harlem that learning all he spoke about was really exciting. I’d definitely recommend this tour to anyone staying in Manhattan or even just anyone visiting or living in NY.

Free Tours by Foot never gives any disappointing tours. I've already taken so many great tours with them. It's great way to learn about the cities you're visiting and make new friends. The tour guides are always competent, knowledgeable, friendly, and can give many great advices on what to check out and great food places. I've taken tours with John, Daryl, Kyle, and Aline in NYC and Joseph and Jenn in Philadelphia. There are several others that I do not remember the name since I've taken many many tours in the year 2022 but shout out to them too!
Rob Maxwell
This tour is fantastic! Kyle led us on the NYC Soho/Little Italy/Chinatown tour and provided lots of interesting insight into the areas. My family of 5 loved it and learned a lot, the details and history of these areas was so fun to learn. Thank you Kyle!
Jeryd Dykson
Took the Central Park tour with Kyle. The heat was brutal but Kyle was upbeat, informative, friendly and interesting.
We liked the tour so much we signed up for another, Brooklyn with John. John was such an interesting character, passionate about the tour and the area and eager to share his knowledge.
We had such a good experience again that we signed up for yet another tour, Soho/Chinatown/Little Italy with Kyle again. Awesome again, and I appreciate he shows some photos, helping visualize some of the historic items being discussed.
All of the tours were great, I learned a lot about the city I would never have known. Slight regret we didn't get to do more tours but the guides were great and I will definitely look at this company for more tours in the future.
No bs about hidden fees either, tours are totally free, they are upfront about tips being optional but greatly appreciated and they were well deserved for each one.
Dominika Olszewska
Absolutely recommend! My boyfriend and I took 3 tours with them during our 10-day stay in NY. We especially enjoyed the Twilight Brooklyn, Brooklyn Heights & DUMBO tour with John Gallagher (hi, John!!) and the All-in-one Central Park with Garrett! The guides are knowledgeable and fun, while the tours are interesting and well-planned. And the email communication prior to the tour is clear.
Georgia Sorrell
We had a fantastic walking tour of Soho, Little Italy and Chinatown with John G. He was a fountain of knowledge, and a great character. I highly recommend this tour. Thanks John!
Тагирова Мадина
The tours are so great, that I took 4 of them during my trip to NYC! A wonderful opportunity to know more about history, architecture, culture, and interesting facts about a city you visit. I will definitely attend other tours provided by this company during my next travels. Onel Alfaro (Downtown Wall Street, 9/11, Chinatown, Little Italy, SoHo 3 hour Tour), Garrett (Central Park Lower Section), Mary (Greenwich Village Ghost Tour), and John Joseph Gallagher (Twilight Brooklyn Bridge, Brooklyn Heights & DUMBO 2 Hour Tour) are excellent guides. I enjoyed all 4 tours. Highly recommend.
Leslie Hudson
Jon was absolutely amazing!! We saw so much more than they even advertise. I would rate this tour more than 5 stars if I could.
Maria DiMeglio
It was an amazing tour. John had so much knowledge and understanding and was a lot of fun. I am legally blind. And he tried to make it as descriptive as possible for me. And did a wonderful job. I just want to thank him and the organization I will be back to do more tours
Valentina Santamaria
We did two walking tour with them and both were amazing.
Brooklyn Bridge/ Dumbo Brooklyn Heights Tour with John was great. He is really friendly and gave us loads of information about Brooklyn area. Highly recommend to do it in the evening time as you can take great pics.
SoHo, Little Italy, Chinatown with Kyle was also really good as he told us the secrets of these areas of Manhattan. He was very knowledgeable and explained everything in a fun way!
Laura Santos
I took the central park in one day. My guide was Garrett. It was amazing, the guide was great, and absolutely hilarious 😂😂 I signed for a walking tour and it ended up being half a stand up comedy show. We learned a lot while laughing and walking. The tour was in central park, but we got to learn a lot about the city itself.
We also did the Brooklyn bridge with John. It was also incredible. He knows a lot about the city. The was he shows Brooklyn is amazing, I learned a lot. All along the tour he was telling stories about the city and curious facts about it. His story telling skills are great.
And finally we made the SOHO, Little Italy and Chinatown with Joy. It was also really good. Along the way he thought us a lot about the city and made great recommendations about places to visiting and restaurants.
Do yourself a favor a take this tours!!!
Best tour ever, totally recommend it.
Mark Kashper
The tour of Brooklyn was great and John Gallagher is an awesome guide. We enjoyed it thoroughly. We will definitely recommend it very highly to our family and friends.
Linda Kerry
Went on 2 tours with the company. Firstly the twilight Brooklyn and Dumbo tour with John. Such beautiful scenery and very interesting and knowledgeable guide who made everyone feel welcome. Next day we did the soho, little Italy and Chinatown tour with Kyle. Another really knowledgeable friendly and informative guide. The tours were one of the highlights of our trip to New York. Highly recommended!
Nancy Melissa Martínez Zúñiga
John Gallagher was our guide, he was AMAZING; He knew so much about the history behind Brooklyn + gave us amazing tips + gave us very interesting random facts about Brooklyn. We also got to see this amazing sunset with the city lights behind it, it just cannot be described. His dinner recommendations were amazing as well, he was certainly a tour highlight too! I am looking forward to come again and take whatever tour he is offering ☺️
Storfeth Lair
Our tour of SoHo, Little Italy and Chinatown was great! Kyle was awesome , with a good sense of humour, details that we didn’t know and some useful tips as well! Definitely recommend the tour !
Teresa Groom
Very enjoyable tour of Grand Central. Second tour with John Gallagher who is knowledgeable and personable with each group. He gave a lot of information about NYC that was helpful for the rest of our trip.
Natalie Miller
We did the Brooklyn Bridge Twilight tour this evening! It was a fabulous (albeit a little chilly!) evening! Our guide John was marvellous - a very knowledgable and friendly guy who has a real passion for the history of the city! John took us to some off the track places and ended with some of the best sunset views of Manhattan you could wish for! I will certainly be doing more Free Tours by Foot and would highly recommend anyone taking the Brooklyn Bridge Twilight Tour with John!
Marva Palgi
I love to take walking tours and I do it a lot all around the world.
I did three free walking tour in New York and one with a different company.
I have to say this : Kyle is one of the best guides I have ever met. He is so nice and knowledgeable, you can ask him anything. He is a great storyteller so the tour is interesting and fun to be in.
Everything he talks about is so interesting and easy to understand even with all the dates and the different time periods.
One of the tours we did was in central park. Kyle talked for 4.5 hours and I am telling you I could have listened to him 4.5 hours more!
I really recommend Kyle he is just the perfect tour guide.
geoandsal
We had a great tour with John Gallagher, the tour was Brooklyn Bridge and Dumbo. John knew everything!! He had great little stories and was extremely Helpful in suggesting other things to do and see. for us after the tour was over. This was our favorite guided tour of the week. We did 3 tours altogether 2 sights and 1 food tour.
I think if you are allowed to ask for a specific guide pick John!
Kudos to the entire Free tours by foot team! We were not disappointed at all.
We would recommend them to everyone.
Regards,
George and Sally
Samuele Mini
We did two tours in two days and they were both perfect!
The first one with Jon was an incredible East Side Food Tour, where he combined some amazing food samples with notions of history. You will discover some places that you will never discover otherwise, with some incredible surprises that will leave you speechless. And Jon is not only competent about the history but he is also one of the kindest human being I have ever met!
The second one was a tour of Harlem with Lady Altovise: also a great experience where you will discover a lot about this part of NYC, its history and its people. Lady Altovise is also a volcano of positive energy and a star in the neighbourhood, you will see many people stopping just to say hello to her!
Freyja Pétursdóttir
We went on the Harlem walking tour with Lady Altovise. She is an amazing tour guide!! She is so fun, a great storyteller and knows everything about Harlem and its history. I learned so much and after the tour I had written a long list of books, films and TV shows to watch that Lady Altovise recommended to learn more about Harlem's history and/or notable people from Harlem.
I really recommend this tour to anyone who visits NYC, it was definitely one of the top 3 things I did on my trip.
Daniel Golub
I took the Brooklyn Bridge, Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO Tour on Saturday, October 15th with tour guide Aline Naroditsky. Although I'm a native born and bred New Yorker, I haven't spent much time in Brooklyn Heights or DUMBO, or even crossed the Brooklyn Bridge on foot, so I was highly interested in going on this tour and seeing what I could learn. Aline taught me a lot about the history of the bridge and neighborhoods around it, going back from the 17th century to current times. She was articulate, well spoken, detail oriented, and organized. I appreciated that she used an iPad to show the tour group pictures and sketches of the neighborhoods, and the people who engineered and built the bridge. Aline projected her voice loud enough for all 30 of us to hear, and was able to effortlessly keep everyone engaged for the whole 3 hours of the tour. She made sure to engage everyone in her tour and answer any questions that they had about the places that we visited, as well as provide recommendations for places to see and where to eat. She even helped us with our photo ops on the Brooklyn Bridge by being our personal photographer! She made sure not to lose anyone in the tour group, which is very easy to do with everyone else walking around. I feel like I learned a lot, and have added some places on my list to visit and see for myself and with friends. I would definitely recommend having Aline as a tour guide if you want to learn more about the city and what makes it special!
Janine Smith
We had a great time on Jon's East Village Food tour! He is very organized, knowledgeable about the local history, and is part stand-up comedian. All of the places we visited had delicious food and some had history to learn about. We were ages 18 to 60, and it was one of all of our favorite experiences from our 4-day stay in the City. We will undoubtedly try another tour when we visit again!
Amit Aharoni
We’ve taken Kyle for the Brooklyn bridge and Brooklyn heights tour. He was very friendly and informative, seemed excited about telling the stories of New York City. He gave us nice lunch options at the end with a little bit of history. Accepted credit/mobile payment as a tip.
Anastasia Tymoshenko
We did three walking tours

We met John by the Brooklyn trip and...omg he was brilliant! Very interresting and funny stories, a lot of historical facts what we loved. This trip was one of our best decision in NYC, so if you are thinking to book one just do it right now! Thank you John!
Jessica Phillips
Went on a wonderful sunset tour of the Brooklyn Bridge, Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO! So interesting and informative, even for long-time NYC residents like my husband and I. We were celebrating our anniversary and wanted to do something fun, educational, and low-cost. Free Tours by Foot is just the thing! Our tour guide John was so kind and had many interesting stories to share about the people who built the bridge and the social justice work that was happening in Brooklyn during the 19th century. Would definitely recommend this tour!
Anna Weinstein
My family and I had the pleasure of a Brooklyn bridge , heights dumbo twilight tour with John.
John was extremely informative, and engaging. I learned many new facts about Brooklyn history, as well as updates on recent developments. John also gave us extra time on the tour. John really seems to enjoy his role as NY tour guide. We highly recommend Free Tours by foot, and ask for John.

On September 23, 2022, I had the opportunity to participate in the "New York One Day Tour", which lasted 6 hours. Kyle was our guide. I highly recommend taking this tour. The guide was wonderful, he told a lot, he willingly cooperated with the group. The route is not tiring and the 6 hours have passed very quickly. I had the opportunity to see and learn a lot of interesting things about New York
I would recommend to anyone and the guide Kyle.
Joanne Tyler
We did the Twilight walk over Brooklyn Bridge and DUMBO walking tour with John. He was so knowledgeable and interesting. He clearly loves his city. We saw wonderful sunset and nighttime views. Highly recommend.

My wife and I took the tour of the Brooklyn Bridge and DUMBO. John Gallagher was our guide. We loved that he arrived at the meeting point early. John gave a wonderful tour, adding numerous tid bits of history and present day anecdotes. John is highly knowledgeable and readily answered the many questions he was asked. Combining his knowledge and very pleasant nature made the tour a great experience for us. Thank you John!
Breanne Rodriguez
We had a wonderful time in NYC, especially on our FTBF tours. We did 3 tours while in the city. All the tours were wonderful and given by friendly locals. Everything they shared was interesting and informative. FTBF offers a lot of different tours of the city, it was hard to just pick a few.
The tours we did and enjoyed were:
-Grand Central Terminal with John Gallagher
-Greenwich Village Food Tour with Lori
-Midtown Manhattan with Kyle
Manju Mathew
Booked a guided tour of the portion of Central Park by Kyle. The booking process on the website was very straightforward. This was my first time with this company so I wasn't sure what to expect. I received timely and detailed emails from the company and then my guide Kyle on the pertinent details of the day tour. Kyle was very knowledgeable with many interesting tidbits of the history of the site. He carried the tour very well and we as a group had a lovely and lively time during a winter walk in Central Park. I would 100% recommend Kyle's tour of Central Park and the company as a whole.
Bonita Wong

One of the best tours i ever did with a tourguide named John! He was amazing, told us so many interesting stories and there was also a possibility to go to a italien cafe and a chinese dumpling place on the way!
Santosh Prabhu
We did the day long tour of NYC with Kyle. Kyle was an awesome guide - well-informed and you could see that he was someone who had done his research. He had planned it really well and showed us a lot of NYC during our time together. He had great tips to share with us to better enjoy our time in NYC. Even though it was 6 hours long, he continued to hold our attention and we did not get bored at any point. He took good care of the group and made sure he did not lose anybody at any point in time. Definitely recommend this tour with Kyle!

I had the best experience with John’s Brooklyn bridge tour! It was my mother’s first time in New York and we got to cover so much from our to do list with just this 1 tour! I could tell he had a lot of experience and was very personable. We made frequent stops to allow for photo opportunities as well as to gather the group and make sure no one got lost

My friend and I took the East Village food tour with Jon and we were blown away by how great it was! Jon was so friendly, knowledgeable, and considerate throughout the whole process. You can absolutely tell how much time, thought, and consideration he put into planning this tour out. It was an amazing way to spend 2.5 hours in the city. I would highly recommend this company and his tour specifically!!

We did several tours with Free Tours by Foot in NYC (Brooklyn Bridge, Brooklyn Heights and Dumbo + All-in-One Central Park + SoHo, Little Italy & Chinatown + ), Chicago (Loop and Millennium Park + Chicago Riverwalk & History) and LA (Hollywood Tour) and we loved!!!
Super great tour guides.
Best way to know more about the cities and have some tips where to eat, etc.
Lauren Byrd
John Gallagher is a treasure! If you have a chance to take any of his tours in NYC, go for it! We took his SOHO tour recently and learned so much about the interesting history and culture of the areas. John is a skillful storyteller, and his theatrical experience shines throughout his tour. This particular tour covered about 1.5 miles, and it was easy for any level of fitness.
Julie Rudkowski
Edited review after more tours..
We are in New York City for the year and have done 5 free walking tours.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM.
First of all, it’s pay what you like with an optional $3 booking fee- aka very affordable.
We have done the following:
1. Harlem tour with Derrick. 100% recommend. Harlem is rich with culture & history and the 2 hours flew by. Great tour to take to get out of the touristy New York.
2. Brooklyn tour (4pm start). We took this tour with John. He is highly knowledgeable and it was a great way to see a bit of Brooklyn. upside/ downside depending how you see it was that it was supposed 2 hours and it ended being 3 hours.
3. Soho food tour with Mary. The only reason I don’t recommend this tour is because I much prefer paying upfront and the tour guide gathering the food for the group. Lots of time waiting around for people to order the food, etc. Mary was highly knowledgeable, although difficult to hear and felt at times we were crowding the sidewalks.
4. Greenwhich village Halloween tour with Mary. Obviously no longer applicable but looking forward to doing the Christmas lights tour!
5.NYC all day tour with Kyle. I can’t believe it’s pay what you can. The tour FLEW by. We went all over lower Manhattan. It was incredible. A great way to see New York City if you are short on time.
Looking forward to taking more tours by this amazing company. As students, we are so happy we can afford it!!
Karen Dunning
Joined the NYC Greenwich Village tour with Renee and had a fabulous afternoon. She is extremely approachable and knowledgeable. She sets a nice pace and keeps things interesting. Obviously does her homework as she had up-to-date anecdotes as well as historical info. Hope to book another tour with her when we return to NYC.
Mark Judd
We did three tours.
Brooklyn Bridge with Katie.
Central Park with Kyle.
Ghosts of Broadway with Mary.
The guides are top notch and all the tours were fantastic, fun and informative.
Our needs were met with bathroom and water breaks where appropriate.
We saw and learned things we never would have if we were just wandering on our own.
Shlomo Sanders
We took the Grand Central Station tour with John Gallagher It was great! Ly with such a tour and guide can you learn interesting and I intimate things about the Grand Central Station. John is highl recommended.

This was an interesting tour and
KYLE was a friendly and well-informed tour guide - even despite some cold weather it was a very nice experience and I'm glad I found them.
Sandrine Imhof
the food tour by foot in lower east side with Jon was an amazing experience that we can definitely recommend! Jon is a very enthusiastic, funny tour guide that knows the best eating places and is happy to share tips for foodie places all over Manhatten. We also loved his attitude when it comes to reduce food waste👏 …
Carolyn Romeril
Recently returned from New York. I can highly recommend the East Village Food Tour led by Jon N who is a really informative guide. You are able to taste food made by communities who have made East Village their home as well as learn about the history of the district.
Tohar Rigler
we had a tour last week with John Gallagher that made the tour sooo special, he makes you love NYC like he does, and teach us things we never heard before
Vadim Z
SoHo, Little Italy, Chinatown: Very entertaining tour, it covers wide area and, as expected, is packed with information about rich history of these NYC neighborhoods. The guide Aline was brilliant expertly mixing historical info with fun facts. She flawlessly handled our relatively large group so that no one felt left behind.
Definitely would recommend the tour to both, the city visitors and the locals.
Daniel Engels
I went on two tours with this company. The Soho, Chinatown and Little Italy Tour with Kyle and the Brooklyn Bridge, Dumbo and Brooklyn Heights Tour with Onel. Both guides are very knowledgeable and made the tour a great experience, that I definitely recommend.

On October 26, 2022 my wife, my daughter, and I attended a tour of the Brooklyn Bridge, Brooklyn Heights, and DUMBO area conducted by John Gallagher. The next day we visited Greenwich Village, High Line, and Chelsea on a tour conducted by Joey Hannah. Both of these tours were very interesting, and the guides provided many details of the areas in an informative and entertaining manner.
Jody Sabet
We did the lower manhattan tour with Renee this morning, I’m here to tell you that this is by far the best use of 2 hours in NYC. I have been coming to NYC as a flight attendant-and on family vacations and conventions -for almost 40 years, yet never knew the history of the buildings, streets and landmarks that I have been walking past all these years! Renee made the experience interesting entertaining as well as thought provoking! She knows her history, has engaging stories, and knows how to keep a large group organized and on schedule. I highly recommend this tour, and especially Renee, and I’m looking forward to taking the remaining tours this company offers.
Diana Nunes
We were a group of 4 and all of us enjoyed the tour around Grand Central with John. He was very knowledgeable. Totally recommend!
Kirk Eisenbeis
We took the Greenwich Village and Lower Manhattan tours in September with guide Renée, and both were outstanding. I have become a big fan of neighborhood tours as a way to get a deeper introduction to a city's culture.

Definitely recommend this!! I went on the Harlem Renaissance tour and Lady Altovise was amazing! She really brought everything to live, great personality and person. It was educating and interesting as well as fun. If you are in doubt, don't, just go!

I took the walking tour in New York with guide Nick. Started in the financial district, including the 9-11 Memorial and the Oculus, then Chinatown, Little Italy and Soho. A little over 3 hours. It was GREAT! Nick did an excellent job, it was a good pace (not too fast or slow) and super interesting. Highly recommend.
Olof Thompson
Very nice tour with John over Brooklyn bridge and hieghts yesterday. Good for adults and children both (we have 2 kids, 10&14, and several younger came along as well). Well told stories of the history of the area and the people who built it. Strong recommendation!

Fantastic tour. Kyle (the tour guide) was very knowledgeable and friendly. We stopped at multiple points of interest in Soho, little Italy and Chinatown and it really brings the city to life. So much better than exploring on your own - would recommend to anyone !

Elena Kliss
The SoHo, Little Italy and Chinatown tour led by Aline Naroditsky was very informative, fun, full of wonderful discoveries (under our feet, above our heads, and all around us), warmth, and New York state of mind!
Highly recommend to tourists and locals who want to get to know NYC!
Chris Sarantis
I’ve been on five tours in New York by Mar, Tyler-Marie, Rene, John and Kyle and all five were absolutely incredible. They all brought so much passion and character to the vastly different areas of the city with just the right amount of historical and geographical context. I would highly recommend!
Lucia Galli

Daniel Álvarez del Castillo
I went on a tour on the High line with Meredith Smyth, it exceed my expectations! Meredith told us a lot of stories and facts about the high line and the buildings we passed on the tour.
Karen Nugent
I went on the walking tour of Harlem with Bill--who was very knowledgeable and quite amusing. I liked that he focused on the positives about Harlem, yet hit a few touchy subjects (such as the "stop and frisk" mural). Bill seemed to know the neighborhood well, to the point where some folks greeted him by name. He gave great recommendations on clubs - my main interest - and restaurants. His history of the early jazz clubs was amazing. He said he's an actor and I hope to see him perform one day! Outstanding, I would highly recommend this tour. (In case anyone is wondering, we never were harassed or felt threatened at all.)
Sara Gilbert
John was a most knowledgeable guide. He shared his love and enthusiasm for NYC with us with insight and humor as we walked across the Brooklyn Bridge to learn about Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO. We'll go on more tours with him!!
Tiffini Theisen
The Brooklyn Bridge tour with Dumbo and Brooklyn Heights neighborhoods at the end was well paced and informative. Even my friend who has lived in Brooklyn for 4 years got a lot out of it.
Michele Camardella
Jon’s East Village Food Tour was fun, informative, and delicious. A nice combination of food and history. Jon was very knowledgeable and has organized the tour so that it’s affordable, but you definitely get to
enjoy a nice variety of foods. Some of the stops are quite well known, some are not, but they were all worth a visit.
Mark Pabst
I took the Greenwich Village, Meat Packing, and Hiline tour for 3 hours. Our guide Lori was excellent and it was evident she did her homework on the history of the different areas. The tour was not just informative but educational.
As with similar tours in other cities I tip $10/hr.
marie-claire o'neil
Great tour with John Gallagher. Good pace, friendly, and so much information! Loved it.
Laura R
We thoroughly enjoyed the tour that Meredith gave us of the Dark Side of the Highline- thank you Meredith for sharing your enthusiasm and knowledge of NYC and the Highline!!
Tharun Adithya
We had a great tour of Grand Central with John in the Grand Central Terminal Tour. I learnt so much about the history of the building and New York in general! Would absolutely recommend.
Michael McClintock
Jon’s food tour around LES was interesting and fun, to both a tourist and someone living in NYC. I will definitely be recommending to friends and looking at other tours to do in the future.
hanna shental
We took a tour with Cliff Cohen to SOHO, Little Italy and China Town, and enjoyed every minute!
Cliff was very interesting, showed us cool places. He is very articulate and a real professional.
Giacomo Trevisan
I participated on Sunday 5 January 2020 in the "Manhattan Street Art Tour 2pm (ENGLISH)" in New York City. The experience was excellent and I was thrilled: the guide was very prepared and truly passionate of the places and his city. So many information and a new look on the walls of neighborhoods that risk going unnoticed.
Thanks for this opportunity: I hope to have soon a new chance to follow your tours, also in other cities; and I will recommend to do the same to all my traveling friends.
Ronit Reit
I just love Free Tours by Foot!
They have a wide variety of tours and each is more interesting than the other.
I live in NY and whenever I have free time I schedule a tour and get to know the city better. Their food tours and street art tours are absolutely terrific and most important affordable.
John B
My wife and I did a street art and graffiti tour of Bushwick/Williamsburg. We were running late due to a mix up with our taxi but our guide was kind enough to hold up the group. He was great!
As we walked through the streets the amount of amazing street art in this area was enthralling. Our guide made it all the more interesting by putting each piece in context artistically and culturally. His knowledge was extensive and captivating.
If you have an interest in art this tour is a must.
Bernadette Bay
We really enjoyed our Free Tours by Foot in NYC. We had a very professional guide(John) on our tour of Soho, Little Italy and Chinatown. It was so interesting and a view of real NYC and immigrants past and present. Not your normal boring city tour and I would definitely do more Free Tours by Foot both in NYC and other cities.
adriana fazzina
Jon is a great tour guide, very interesting explanations, tour and food! I strongly recommend the tour!
Emilia Wang
I had the 3 hour manhattan walking tour that starts from wall streets and ends in Soho. Our tour guide is Jon and he has a lot of knowledge and stories for sharing. The history background about NYC is well explained and I have learned a lot of new knowledge about this major city. Thank you and I will definitely do more tours 👍 …
Mary Gaudreau
I went on the Street Art Tour last week with Greg. He was really knowledge because he is an artist himself. It was a great tour for anyone who enjoys art and you will definitely come out with some new knowledge (especially if you knew very little going into it).
Kayla Loschky
3 hour Brooklyn Bridge, Brooklyn Heights, DUMBO tour with Jon!
Jon was full of information about the city and various buildings we saw during our 3 hour walking tour around Brooklyn. I was really impressed with his professionalism, attention to the group dynamics, and his ability to talk with everyone. This is a great company that offers tours for free, but you really should tip the tour guide! You simply book what you want on the site, get an email telling you where to meet up, and then you follow the tour guide around! I really enjoyed following Jon around and not having to think about directions or how I was going to get to the next place. It was very informative and we covered a lot of ground in our 3 hour tour! Group photo included - I didn't know a soul and had such a great time!
Nora Nel
Had the best walking tour last night. Twilight Manhattan Bridge Tour. We were told fascinating facts and stories. Timed exactly right for the prettiest sunset ever! Thank you Johan Gallagher!
Yad Banga
Thank you John for the great SOHO tour and being brave by getting wet with us in the pouring rain!! As they say " The show must go on!!"..The rain actually made it more interesting!!
Aviad Tamir
Took the Downtown Manhattan 3 hours with Nick. Time and money well-spent. Nick is very knowledgeable and nice person with great sense of humor.
Recommend!
Mona Halawi
Booking the tour was super easy, there’s a variety of dates, times and routes.
Immediately you receive a very well explained email as to who’s meeting you, where and what time with all additional necessary information for a smooth gathering.
We got there, were quickly checked-in and welcomed and head out on the tour.
We learned some amazing things about NYC, all told to us in a very interesting and fun narrative.
John was particularly joyful, funny and was able to grab our attention during the entire tour!
I booked 2 more tours with this company for the upcoming 10 days and I’m sure it’ll be as awesome!
Kristina Suzim
We really enjoyed the Rockefeller Center tour with Meredith and the Grand Central one with John! Highly recommend!!!!
Alexey Larionov
Much enjoyed the twilight Brooklyn walk with our incredible guide John. Never got to see the city from that angle, literally and figuratively speaking. Thanks John!
May Su
We enjoyed the Free tour by foot guide, Kyle was very professional and we liked how he presented the view with interesting stories behind the view. I would recommend my friends to do the tour with their company. The way they do made visitors feel very comfortable to follow their tour.
Juan J. Moreno
We took the 3 hours downtown tour with John, amazing guide, fun, enthusiastic. Highly recommended.
Maxim Wolf
Absolutely brilliant and by far the best way to explore New York. We have been on six of their tours: The alternative New York Tour with Kathleen was a great introduction to NYC's history and we have discovered some awesome places in the East Village. We followed up with a lower Manhattan tour with Renee - the walking encyclopaedia of NY! Next were the Grand Central Terminal Tour and All-Day Manhattan tour with John -both of John's tours were good fun and full of hidden gems. The Manhattan by-night tour with Wanda took us all the way up to mid-Manhattan, the Rockefeller Centre and Central Park. Speaking of which - the Central Park day tour with Garrett was an absolute delight, be prepared though: you better know your classic song texts to be able to joke around with Garrett- I enjoyed it. Further North - Ryan took us around Harlem, it's history and sights (and, now this is a contagious point: to the best pizza place in NYC, although our other host: John will disagree). Finally, we enjoyed fantastic views of Manhattan, Brooklyn and the East River on a Brooklyn Bridge Tour led by Onel.
You can tell - we did a lot, every tour was different, the guides are different and I would not want to have missed any of the tours! Thank you very much!
Denise Lorka
Amazing tour. Very interesting and informative. Can’t wait to do another when we are back in the city.
Sonia Reavis
John Gallagher was an excellent tour guide as we did the twilight Brooklyn Bridge tour. He told us the history of the bridge and the different Brooklyn neighborhoods we walked through. He was an excellent storyteller.
Deb MacC
Great Tour on evening of October 21, 2021, NYC. John did a nice job of being personal and knowledgeable about the City, history, architecture and interesting details of fact and gossip. For me it was fun, informative and orienting to locations and to ride the subway. Great Job, thank you John.
Susan Heath
We really enjoyed the SoHo, Little Italy and Chinatown tour with Kyle!! My teens say it was one of the highlights of our 5 days in NYC. I also learned so much and thoroughly enjoyed the tour as someone who lived and worked in Manhattan for 6 years but never explored as much as I should have. It was the perfect amount of history, sightseeing and food recommendations. We followed up with a personal food tour of the places that he recommended which made the day even better. Thank you Kyle for a great day exploring NYC!
Felisa Wood
We really enjoyed our All Day New York Tour with Kyle. He was a wonderful guide. He was informative and entertaining. We would definitely recommend this true for an overview of lower Manhattan.
Fiona Williams
Onel was an awesome tour guide!! Despite the rainy weather my family and I enjoyed our walking tour. Onel was informative on Brooklyn history, food, people, and culture. He made excellent recommendations on places to eat in the area and free activities to enjoy. Onel made a 3 hour walk tour feel like a breeze. He was funny and accommodating. Great views of the Brooklyn Bridge and the Empire State Building. I would definitely recommend this tour. Its a must do tour on your NYC visit!
Tessanella DeFrisco
Wow this is the fifth tour I’ve taken with this company and have enjoyed them all! The pic is from John’s Gran Central Terminal tour, but I’ve really enjoyed Renee’s Lower Manhattan and Greenwich Village, the Brooklyn Street Art and Graffiti, and the Lower East Food Tour! I think Greenwich was my favorite.
Honestly if you have anyone visiting from out of town, make a reservation with this walking tour company. It is so fun and gives excellent context to appreciating the city you’re in!
Thank you Free Tours By Foot!!
Sara Durkacs
Great tour of Graffiti & Street Art for locals and tourists alike. Our knowledgable guide, Mar (an artist himself) shared with the group the history of Graffiti & the neighborhood and how this shared past became a haven for street art. Learned about the different styles of graffiti. Fun to visit the "art zones" of The Bushwick Collective and others. Many woman street artists' work is on view now. Go see it before it disappears! Loads of international artist, too! Free tour, tip as you wish at the end. Meeting point, the Chocolate Room, sells delicious vegan treats.
Alexandra Constantin
Thoroughly enjoyed the 2 hour Central Park tour with Kyle yesterday. It was welcoming, fun, entertaining and well paced and he managed to keep us fully engaged in spite of the scorching heat! Would repeat.
Stacey Wild
Kyle was our guide for the NYC in 1-day tour this past week, and he was excellent! He's a true historian and storyteller who was able to help us a gain a full understanding of the history of Manhattan from the time of early settlement to the present - all while walking through different neighborhoods. Kyle also took time to make sure everyone in the group was comfortable (It was a hot day!), and he provided personal recommendations to us for places to eat and other sights to see. With all that said, I would not recommend this tour unless you have several days to spend in the city and are only able to spend a single day touring. This is a 6.5 hour tour, and it gets tiring. If I had to do it again, I'd have taken the 2 tours separately on different days.
Gustavo Carneiro
Awesome tours! I’ve made 3 tours, Ghosts of Greenwich Village with Mary, AIO Central Park with Kyle and Downtown Manhattan with Nick. All of them were awesome and with rich content about the city and the places, that only with that type of tour we can discover! Special thanks to Kyle, the 4 hours spent walking in the Central Park worth every minute!!
Lee Hoehn
Loved visiting Soho, Little Italy, Chinatown with our tour guide, Kyle. He has a way of bringing history to life with interesting details and his very engaging and lively presentation, always a touch of humor. I'd sign up for any tour that Kyle is leading as it promises to be a fun and informative 2-3 hours. And, on one of the hottest of days, very much appreciated that he was sure to keep us in the shade!
Wojciech Kruk
We had a lovely time with John visiting Little Italy, Chinatown and Soho. John is a great guide who knows his city well and keeps the good mood among the group members. He also gave us cool tips about other places worth visiting in NYC.
Lior Erez
Went to the Soho-Chinatown tour with Kyle, very interesting and fun experience! I learned lots of new things. Great for a first visit in my and also if you’ve been here already!
Thank you Kyle you’re the best
Merav Hecht
We took Kyle's 4.5 hours tour of Central Park and it was amazing. Kyle is an incredible guide, not only he is very knowledgeable but he is also fun and attentive to all the participants. Time flew by quickly and we had such a good time. As we saw Kyle we realized that in the past we did another tour with Kyle, the Brooklyn Bridge and DUMBO, and it was a wonderful experience as well!
kathleen suriano
My family and i went on a food tour with Jon. He was very energetic, fun and informative. (even in a major thunderstorm!) He was the highlight of our NYC trip. would recommend!!
Sarah Allen
I took a Free Tour by Foot in midtown NYC with Kyle as my guide. My daughter and I enjoyed it so much we came back the next morning for his SOHO, Little Italy, Chinatown tour. It is nice to walk around without having to worry about directions or traffic while learning interesting facts regarding the history and architecture around me. Kyle was professional and friendly. He was engaging with each group on the tours while also allowing those who preferred to remain aloof to keep to themselves.
Tiffany Gahrs
My husband and I participated in the Free Tours by foot lower east side food tour. It was amazing! Jon took us to all of the best places we probably never would have found on our own. Jon's passion for food and history really shines through as he gives the tour! He also gives amazing suggestions on sharing meals so you can make it through the whole tour without being full. We literally got a little taste of everything amazing about the lower east side! We will definitely be back to do more food tours with Jon! Highly recommend come hungry and ready to hear some amazing history!
KAREN VAN KENNEN
My husband, my 14 year old grandson and I took the walking tour of SoHo, Little Italy and. Chinatown on June 24th w/ John Gallagher, and we all thought it was the highlight of our trip to the city. We live in Boston and come down 2 or 3 times a year and have been bringing our grandson down for 4 or 5 years, and we’ve traveled extensively, so we are not newbies to NYC or to travel and we think he may be the best guide we’ve ever had.
He was very personable and related many, many interesting facts and figures about each section we visited, including historical info, stuff about famous (and infamous) residents and architectural tidbits.
We’ve already recommended him to some of our friends and look forward to taking a tour from him again - even the same one!
AAA+++ for John!
Heather G
Our family did the Soho, Little Italy, China Town tour with John Gallagher. John was so personable, funny and had interesting anecdotes to share with the group. We really had a great day with him. The kids loved the extra stops for gelato and dumplings. We saw things we never would have seen on our own. I recommend highly.
Mario Gavijon
We did the Brooklyn Bridge, Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO walking tour with Josh. It really was great. Josh was very knowledgeable and made the tour very interesting and enjoyable. I highly recommend this tour even if you've been to NYC before.
Gordon Harris
We had the pleasure of the Harlem Tour led by Lady Altavice yesterday. This is our third free tour by foot, and they have all been fantastic! We learned a lot about the history and culture of Harlem, and what a vibrant place it is today. Lady's energy, passion, and involvement with the community allowed her to really convey aspects of life in Harlem past and present in a most authentic and wonderful way. THANK YOU!
Julie Land
My family of 6 did the Central Park Bike tour with Jon. We all enjoyed it very much! It was the perfect blend of the history of the park and fun facts. Jon was an excellent guide! He is so knowledgeable and eager for you to share his love of the city. He also helped us with a lunch recommendation and a Chinatown recommendation, both of which were delicious.
Rachel Smith
We really enjoyed our tour of Midtown Manhattan with Kyle. He was enjoyable and full of NYC history and fun facts. It was a great way to start our trip. Thanks Kyle!
Sina Kresse

My husband and I took the Central Park All in One Tour with Kyle. The tour was fantastic. We loved it!!! Kyle provided so much interesting information. He was very humorous and showed us wonderful pictures which really added to the tour. The weather was very warm and he always tried to be in the shade and check if everyone was ok. He went at a great pace and we really learned so much. Highly recommend!
Myrna Barrera
A great tour of the Brooklyn community! We definitely enjoyed Onel and all the knowledge and humor he brought to the tour. As a Brooklyn native he brought a personal touch to the tour. I'd recommend this tour to anyone who wants to get a general knowledge of the Brooklyn's history and get inside knowledge of one of the best views of Manhattan.
Marcus Graham
We took the Lower Manhattan walking tour with Renée and had a fantastic time! Renée was amazingly knowledgeable and incredibly engaging throughout. We thoroughly enjoyed her good humour and willingness to share personal anecdotes. The tour covered Battery Park, the Financial District and the 911 memorial site. Definitely worthwhile!

We did the tour today of mid town that was lead by Kyle. We had a wonderful experience. Kyle is a fountain of information and a pro at making it fun to learn about. We are family of four representing three generations and we all enjoyed the tour thoroughly.
Tali Perzov
I want to thank Kyle for amazing tour in Soho, china town and little Italy. Kyle is amazing tour guide, real professional, funny and his energy is so good - this tour felt like 10 minutes while it was two hours - time passed so quickly. Thank you Kyle for the amazing, interesting and informative tour.
Shravya Bollam
John Gallagher was a wonderful tour guide . We really liked their tour of Brooklyn and highly recommend it.
Nina Bryk
Renee was a fantastic guide for Lower Manhattan! She knew where to find the shade in every stop on our hot day and provided great humor with her historical tour. We really appreciated being shown around by a local expert. This was a highlight to our two day trip to NYC.
Terri Bumgardner
We completed two of your tours this week (Lower Manhattan with Rene & Twilight Brooklyn with John). Learned so much we didn't know & saw sights we had never seen before. Thank you, Rene & John for making our NYC stay even more enjoyable!
Esther Arden
Took the LES food tour yesterday with Jon. Can't recommend it enough. Great mix of info and food. He organized it so well, and collected small amounts of money -- optional, based on your preferences -- for future stops, wasting no time. I loved all the food: knish, sorbet, empanadas, dumplings (pork n veg), pickles, and desserts. Noted the places to go back to. So worth it for 2 hours out. I paid the booking fee and gave him a tip. Jon kept the group in cool spots on a sunny day, ensured businesses and the general public were not obstructed. He did a lot of leg work in between ordering our empanadas and dumplings and going over to get them while we waited very briefly enjoying another treat. The sequence was so well planned. Thank you, Jon.
Kimberly Morrison
Really enjoyed the Free Tours by Foot "SoHo, Little Italy and Chinatown Tour" led by Renee Rewiski. Renee did a great job of sharing lots of great stories and interesting facts about the three neighborhoods we visited. Highly recommend!
Mark Hurst
My walking tour of Greenwich Village could NOT have been better! Renee Rewiski's command of the city, her knowledge of the history, and her ability to present information and respond to questions was excellent! I would recommend her tour to anyone interested in knowing all of the "little secrets," the history, and the culture of New York City.
Francisco
Super Tour! We visited Brooklyn and the guide explained everything about the neighborhood. He took the time to answer our questions. Totally recommended!!!!

We had an amazing experience on Central Park walking tour with our guide Kyle. The tour was very enjoyable and our guide was absolutely great! Would 100% recommend this tour to everyone visiting New York!!!
Lauren T
We did the high line after dark your with Meredith and it was great! It was less about ghosts than it was the history of Greenwich village but it was still an amazing way to see around a part of New York at night :)
Barnabas Guyatt
Was a great tour of Brooklyn- John was really knowledgable, friendly and funny. Some great tips for restaurants and things to do to get to know NYC too!

We took the downtown Manhattan tour with Nick and enjoyed every minute of it.
The guide was funny, interesting and so nice and friendly.
The route was good and we saw and learned a lot of new and interesting things.
There were breaks and stops for restrooms and snacks so it was very convenient.
I highly recommend it!

The Lower East Side Food Tour with Jon was incredible. Only wished I could take another one of his tours. Jon is next-level organized. We made a day of it - a Tenement Museum tour in the morning and the afternoon tour. Learn about the immigrants who built NYC
Andrew Telesco
Did the World Trade site and Brooklyn Bridge night tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable about both and the city in general.
Vanshika Garg
I had a great time with Free tours by Foot. I went on 3 tours- Midtown Manhattan with Wanda, Greenwich food tour with Lori and Twilight Brooklyn tour with John. All of them were great but the one with Wanda was truly spectacular. She has an infectious energy which will make you fall in love in with the city. Also, she gave us lot of good tips and tricks for navigating through the city.
Lucía Pinilla Sanzo
John Joseph was every moment very exited about the tour. He was always taking everyone into account and worrying about people who were kind of late or lost. He loves Brooklyn and now we love it too.
Thanks John!
Jeff Millstein
The Lower East Side Food tour given by Jon was excellent. Jon's knowledge of the area was impressive and the variety of food establishments he took us to was superb.
Deborah Grayson Riegel
Had an AMAZING tour of Greenwich Village with Renee today. Despite being a sixth-generation NYC native, I learned so much from her. She gives excellent descriptions, tells wonderful stories, and (most importantly) keeps everyone safe and moving in this busy city. I would take any tour with Renee again!
Igor Zubkov
We are frequent users of “free tours by foot”.
Always great!
Last time we toured Soho/Little Italy/China town with John…

Free Tours by Foot New York should be the first thing you do in Manhattan. Our tour guide John did an amazing job sharing the history of the city and some great personal experiences from his decades on the island. His tips and recommendations for restaurants, must see attractions, and travel were used daily during our visit, and ultimately saved us time and money.
Kevin Fisanotti

We enjoyed the tour with John Gallagher through Soho, little italy and Chinatown. He knew lots of special details about these districts and the people who lived there and still live there. It was a very interesting tour over the Brooklyn bridge to Brooklyn with John Gallagher. We really enjoyed it, he told us stories about the buildings and the people there, with a lot of details. We really enjoyed it. Thank you very much
John.

John Gallagher is a truly amazing guide, I thought this might be good but I was honestly blown away. John knows his stuff, lots of history and anecdotes but by the end of the tour he has managed to create a sense of camaraderie with everyone in the tour such that you feel like you’re going to miss them! Can’t recommend John highly enough.
Anja Bühler
We did several tours around NYC with free tours by foot. While all of them were very good, we especially enjoyed the Central Park tour with Kyle and the Harlem tour with Lady Altovise.

Camille Bucklin
My 16 year old daughter and I took this tour with Jon our last full day in NYC and had a wonderful time. Jon was a wonderful guide and handled all of our questions as well as other guests like a pro. We tried many delicious bites but I think one of our favorite items was the pickled watermelon rind lemonade - it's worth a try. The tour was full of tidbits of information and stories you would never know unless you did a deep dive into the history of the neighborhood but you don't have to because Jon did all the research for us!

Did the mid town Manhattan and Grand Central tours with John, very informative and entertaining tours, lots of interesting facts, figures and suggestions for places to eat and see. John gave us a lesson in how to use the metro which was really helpful. Would highly recommend these tours, great way to learn about the city.

We recently did the Brooklyn Bridge/Brooklyn Heights/DUMBO Tour with Onel. It was wonderful. Lots of fun facts, good pace, and mix of walking and standing, with lots of interesting sites explained. It was over 3 hours so we had a bathroom break and a snack break at a cute grocery market in Brooklyn Heights. Would highly recommend.

This is the 3rd tour I have taken with the company and the first with Jon N as the tour guide. This was the Sunday night 9/11 Memorial and Brooklyn Bridge tour. Jon was outstanding in his knowledge of the events and construction of the new World Trade Center. I remember the day clearly and have been to the memorial site 3 times, but there were younger people on this tour that could have been hearing this information for the first time. Jon explained at the beginning of the tour that he would be very open and honest about what happened and he did an excellent job in dealing with a difficult series of events. At the end of the tour, Jon stayed to take pictures. I should have taken him up of his offer to help us get back to the proper subway station because I did get lost and wandered around before finding a station with an A or C train. My error, not Jon's!

We took 1) The NYC Lower Manhattan Tour with RENEE; and 2) The NYC Lower East Side Foot Tour with JON.
Both tours (quite different between each other) were quite interesting and an excellent way of getting to know the neighbourhoods of NYC. Both guides, with their different styles and approaches, provided very interesting information and tips for visiting NYC. I would highly recommend this kind of tours for any visitor.

All the stops were also delicious - take Jon’s suggestions, he knows what’s best. (Aka the pickled mangoes and the bagel with lox.. delicious!!!!)

I've taken a handful of tours by FTBF. They provide great customer service and a wide variety of tours. All of their tour guides are knowledgeable, friendly and provide great informational tours. One tour guide, Jon, was exceptional. He is quite possibly one of the best tour guides I've toured with. He ensured all of the people signed up for the tour are accounted for and welcomed at the start of the tour. He always speaks clearly, loudly and excitedly. His tours are very fun and informational. You could ask him any question about NYC and it's almost guaranteed he'll know the answer. I highly reccomend taking any tour by Jon. Definitely reccomend FTBF as well.
Raquel
We took the SoHo/Little Italy/Chinatown tour with Kyle and we had an amazing time!

We had a great tour with John. It was very interesting to hear about Soho, little italy and China town. John is a good entertainer. It's easy to listen to him, even if you are Not a native speaker (for example as a German). What I do like is that he tooks plenty of time and that he is interesstet in each group member. And the group was not too big.

I joined the SoHo& Little Italy & Chinatown tour in a beautiful Saturday morning with John, and on Sunday Dumbo& Brooklyn Bridge & Brooklyn Heights tour with Onel. I had such an amazing time and absolutely had so much fun in both the tours and learned a lot about the city! It is so amazing to have a local take you around, because it just feels natural, and they know a lot. John is such a friendly gentleman, he gave us so many information about the locations, both historical and current, and the best of all he made the tour so fun! Same absolutely goes for Onel, this gentleman took us on a 3 hour tour starting from from the bridge to Brooklyn, he was absolutely a true source of information about Brooklyn, and the city in general. And again, such a friendly person, it was an amazing 3 hour we got to experience the city, and had absolutely so much fun! If you are in NYC, I'd definitely recommend attending these tours

I participated in a few tours during my visit to NY and the experience was excellent!
On the Brooklyn Bridge tour I was guided by Onel, who gave us a local's point of view of the area. It was amazing.
Garrett introduced us to Midtown Manhattan. A very intense tour (like the area itself), full of historical information and fun facts about the city.
The tour of SoHo, Little Italy and p
All the experiences were fantastic and the guides (Onel, Garrett and Kyle) made all the difference in our trip to NY. Furthermore, the communication with Free Tours By Foot, from the reservation to the contact with the guides was very clear and professional.
I highly recommend the services provided by this company.

Kyle was a great guide, he was very knowledgeable and made the tour fun! He also had great food recommendations, we tried the restaurant he recommended in Chinatown and it was great! The 6 hour tour covered a lot of lower Manhattan and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to walk around Manhattan and learn about the city!

This past weekend we took the SoHo, Chinatown and Little Italy tour with guide John Gallagher. I had done this tour a few years back with another guide, but this one really stood out. John was very easy to interact with and a most enjoyable guide! He shared a side of this area that was heartfelt, personal and funny too!
Thank you John for a great tour!! We truly loved the food recommendations, hidden spot for great dumplings and your passion for a GREAT city!
If you are in NYC, don't pass up this tour - you can't go wrong with John!

We actually had 3 tours with them in New York. The long one day NYC tour, Brooklyn & DUMBO at twilight as well as a Central Park tour. We had Kyle and John as our tour guides and they were absolutely amazing! The booking of the tours is easy, detailed description and information was always provided in time and the guides were kind, entertaining and very knowledgeable. We loved all of our tours and heard stories you could never get from any other source, just locals. Great value for your money, I can only recommend them.
Arlene Shodrock
We had a great tour of Central Park with Kyle. He was very knowledgeable about the park and told lots of interesting stories. He also showed pictures on his tablet to help us get a feel for the construction and history of the park. The weather forecast was iffy, but we were able to complete the tour with just a short rain break. I recommend Kyle as a tour guide.
Christine Chin
We had a great tour with Kyle today. He made the 6 hour tour of NYC go by really fast by telling us some much history and information about the places we saw. It was quite interesting. We learned a lot today. Kyle was wonderful - always considerate of our needs as well as always asking for questions or concerns. Kyle is the best!!

Visiting NYC for the first time, we went on the Soho/Little Italy/Chinatown tour with Kyle and had a great experience. Really knowledgeable and conversational, he gave us a mix of the historical context and local's recommendations that proved invaluable for the rest of our trip (seriously, good dumpling recommendation). Would definitely suggest you take one of these tours!
Natalia Foix
Great Christmas lights tour with John! Strongly recommend ☺️
Karla dos Santos
We had the chance to do two of these tours while in NY this spring (2022), coincidentally we manage to do both tours (Lower Manhattan and Central Park) with the same tour guide, Kyle.
Kyle was super knowledgeable and friendly, in both tours he shared a lot of the history of the places we visited and that deepened our understanding and appreciation for the places we were seeing.
My husband and I loved the tours, definitely doing other ones when back in NYC.
Janette Owen
We enjoyed a brilliant tour with John of Brooklyn Bridge, DUMBO and Brooklyn Heights. John was fascinating to listen to with many interesting facts about the bridge, buildings and the communities we visited. He is a mine of historical information and peppered the walk with humorous snippets about events, places and celebrity inhabitants. We would definitely recommend this tour and we will book another of this company’s walks when we next visit from the UK. Thanks John!
Jonas S.
We did the "Midtown Manhatten" and the "SoHo, Little Italy and Chinatown" Tour during our stay in New York. And I would definitly recommend both tours. We got a lot of interesting facts about the history of the areas and also a lot of tips on what to see, do and eat while we are here. And our guides Garrett and Kyle did an amazing job, recommend everyone to join at least one of this tours.

I really enjoyed my one day tour in NY. Our guide Kyle was superb! He showed us all this great places in downtown new york and gave us personal added value with cool stories. His knowledge is incredible and his passion to history is contagious.
Take into account that this is a 6 hours long tour, be ready to walk 😁 feel like a real new yorker
Paul Brown
Brooklyn Bridge and Brooklyn Heights/DUMBO tour with John Gallagher was fantastic! Guide was knowledgeable and friendly; he determined what tips everyone on the tour wanted to know and gave us useful information throughout. Also wonderful historical stories - just the right amount of info, walking, bathroom break, etc. And pre-tour, the directions for all the logistics (where/when/how to communicate last minute with tour-guide) was superclear. After the tour he even gave us individual directions for how best to get to where we were going after the tour.
C. Serene
Kyle was phenomenal!! He was so knowledgeable, passionate and amazing - we had a blast on his tour listening to all the stories and research he had consolidated for us. The tour was amazing, full of stories and interesting facts we never knew about America. If I could give this 10 stars, I would!!
Ariel Ben-Dror
We had a Brooklyn bridge free walking tour with John Joseph Gallagher, and it was very interesting to learn all the stuff about the bridge and the history oh Brooklyn. John was knowledgeable and very helpful.

We had a fantastic time on the Soho/Little Italy/ChinaTown tour with Kyle. He was informative and amusing and very friendly. The tour was not too far of a walking distance, and at the end Kyle recommended some great places to eat. Overall a great walking tour!

We came to New York this past week on Vacation. I called the Tour company on Friday morning and asked if they could by chance arrange a last minute tour for my family of 4(including a 17 and 20 year old) that day. They accommodated us within minutes. John Gallagher was our tour guide of Brooklyn. It was the best 2-3 hours of our trip. John is so knowledgable and incredibly fun to be around. We could have stayed on this tour all day.
If you are in New York, look them up and definitely ask for John. I just wish we had time to do all of their tours
Rachael Watkins
Took the food tour with Jon and it was fantastic! Amazing food, friendly and knowledgeable guide. Highly recommend :)
Kellye Patterson

Amazing tour offered daily. I had done:
- Downtown tour with Rene: very well prepared and informative local guide, vocal, straightforward and charming lady
- East village with Jon: animated and knowledgeable about the neighbourhood. Paired a great selection of local snacks with history and movie scenes
- Soho, little Italy and Chinatown with Taylor: architecture style introduction along with local political climate change updates, brief about each community’s history. She did a fantastic job with her assertiveness ans genuine curiosity about people she’s interacting with
Really recommend to all types of travellers in NYC.

Jon was amazing! We did two food tours. He was very educated and we did a lot (and I do mean a lot) more places than those listed. There was a perfect combination of food and history. Highly recommend!

We were fortunate to get John Joseph Gallagher as our tour guide of Grand Central Terminal. He is extremely knowledgeable, entertaining and fun. He made the history of the terminal relevant, he has an in-depth understanding of the period, architecture and people. Highly recommend him and bet he is as great on his other tours. Will use him again for sure!
Nancy Reichman
My cousin Jodi and I took the Grand Central Station tour this morning with John Joseph, who was an excellent and very personable and knowledgeable tour guide. It was a really fun and enriching experience! He struck the right balance between providing detailed information and being entertaining. He made us feel like a group without being in our face about it, which was a nice bonus. I would highly recommend any tour with this guide.
Małgorzata Topolińska

I had the pleasure of joining John on two tours (Grand Central tour and Brooklyn tour). On both occasions I had a wonderful experience. John is a great guide with delightful anecdotes! In addition to the tour, he provided helpful recommendations to find my way around the city. By far the best way to discover the city!
Tanya Lossing
We took the tour of Grand Central Terminal with John. He was very well informed and had a great presentation. We also appreciated the extra recommendations about what to see and where to eat in New York City.
Dvir Koenigstein
We took the Bushwick graffiti tour which was very interesting. We got to see and learn about the art of graffiti: from sharpie scribble on walls, through cute little stickers, all the way to amazing breathtaking murals. The tour was not too lengthy nor a significant walking distance. Kids may also enjoy the colorful art and stories. This is an outdoor tour so dress appropriately. Restrooms were available near the starting point (at a coffee shop). We appreciated the "pay as you wish" attitude. Booking online may cost you 3$ per ticket if you want to "secure your spot". after registration you get an email with all of the tour details and a picture of the guide. If street art isn't your thing, check out their website as they offer many other tours on a daily basis.
Jennifer Hall
My wife and I took the Greenwich Village Tour with Renee and she was phenomenal.. so full of knowledge!! We are still talking about, it telling everyone how they should go take a tour!! We cannot wait to take another one!!

We took three tours with FTBF: the Lower East Side Food Tour with Jon, the Harlem Tour with Ryan, and the Downtown Manhatten Tour with Nick. All tours and guides were amazing, and each had a unique charming quality. Jon was super friendly and knowledgeable about Lower East Side food and history. What's better than learning about a place while enjoying its most delicious treats? Ryan gave us more Black American History facts than I ever remember hearing. He showed us important (and beautiful) spots in Harlem, many of which are steeped in history. Nick's tour was full of interesting facts. He took the time to adjust the tour to our group's interests, including getting snacks and delicacy food items about which Nick knew a lot, too. His knowledge of all random information and tidbits of NYC was impressive. All three guides were incredible speakers, competent and informed guides, and incredibly polite and helpful people with whom I'd retake any tour in a heartbeat! Thanks, Jon, Ryan, and Nick!
Tova Fisch
We went on a Free Tours by Foot HARLEM with Ryan this morning. What a great experience! Ryan made this tour come to life with his knowledge and personality. So much history presented in a way that really keeps you enthralled.
Thank you Ryan.

We took the Brooklyn Heights tour with John Gallagher as our guide. Although only a small group of 6 people, John did a fantastic job as our guide. He was funny and very engaging throughout and extremely knowledgeable about the area and wider topics. I've done well over a dozen waking tours including in New York but would highly recommend this one. We had a fantastic day.

I tried quite a few tours with that company and I loved all of them! Jon, Nick, and Katie did a great job leading the tours and show the beauty of NYC. So far my favorite tours are food tours by Jon because every tour gets better if you have chance to try delicious New York treats. LOL. We if to be serious I loved those food tours because I’m always confused about choosing a good spot for food in NYC so it’s amazing then you can try great samples of so many dishes and listen all those historical facts 💚❤️🧡💛 Loved it! Highly recommend!

I can't recommend the Grand Central tour highly enough. I've lived in NYC all my life, and been to Grand Central more times than I can count. And I still learned a ton. I've taken many tours all over the world, and John Joseph Gallagher is one of the two best tour guides I've ever had.

Best tour in NY! Just been in a FTBT tour with Kyle in Central Park last Monday. The tour exceeded my expectations and more. Kyle was funny, had really good facts about the park to share with us tourists and took us to all of the hidden (and familiar) gems this park has to offer. Do yourself a favor and don’t miss this tour with him!
Heidi Knecht-Seegers
