We absolutely loved this tour with Jonathan Weiss for so many reasons. Not only was it informative and lively, but we were in a small group and could ask questions (and we asked A LOT of questions, so thanks for your patience) to really get to know the history and legends of the French quarter. Our guide enabled us to see the city in a different light and appreciate its rich history and the blending of cultures that makes it such a diverse city. I actually did not come here for the ghost tour. We were on another tour about the history of New Orleans and stopped at this bar on Pirates alley. Unfortunately, from all of the partying the night before, I was a bit hungover and could not partake in what I found out to be an absinthe bar. Yes, the Elixir that you hear about that can cause mild hallucinogen properties. This bar specializes in just that. So, I decided before we were leaving on our last day to go back to the bar so I can partake in this magic elixir. I was not disappointed. I only had one shot but could immediately feel the difference compared to drinking your usual alcoholic shot. It was quite delicious and surprisingly tolerable on the palate. The sugar cube they add to it gives it some sweetness and still allows for that licorice type flavor to hit your tongue. The waitress suggested to take small sips of pineapple juice after each sip of elixir to clean the pallet and therefore being able to enjoy the flavor each and every time you took a sip. I highly suggest trying this place and having at least one drink to be able to say you've tried it. You won't regret it! I love New Orleans!❤👍👌

The knowledge of New Orleans past and present history was shared by Jonathan in a most interesting, entertaining and informational way all along the walking tour. Context and meaning to what would otherwise be overlooked or unknown to a tourist/visitor to New Orleans was the true value of what Jonathan educated and informed on his tour. Jonathan was an amazing puzzle piece to our NOLA stay. His storytelling technique is amazing and he knows exactly how to interact but teach without it feeling like a lecture. He is beyond knowledgeable and probably could answer any question you had about the history or current state of New Orleans. Opt for a private tour, we did with our group of 9 and it is SO worth it. My sister went back for a second tour with just her boyfriend and she said it was spectacular.

DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME ON THE CATTLE CALL TOURS!!!! Go with Johnathon! You will NOT regret it! He takes you off the beaten path, in your small group of 5-10 and is SO knowledgeable! I’ve been on many tours in many places all over the world and Jonathon by far is the best guide I’ve ever had! Don’t expect the quick version of the story! He’s gong to tell you all the details and paint the picture so you see and feel old New Orleans. Originally, I went on the Saturday night 8:15 Vampire Tour. I loved it so much I went back on Sunday afternoon at 5:00 for dark history! Let me also note, I went to both by myself and not for one second did I feel alone! You are so pulled in to his story telling that you never want to leave! Thanks so much Johnathon got a great experience and being a kindred spirit! See you soon!

Make sure you have good walking shoes! Our tour guide Gabby was fun and very knowledgeable. While we were walking to these locations she would point other little points of interest which was great! She made sure we stayed together and that we were safe throughout the tour. It's a great tour of the French Quarters' haunted sites.

You will walk and stand a lot, see some really interesting parts of the French Quarter, and learn a different side of New Orleans. My friends and I were recently in New Orleans for my wife's 40th birthday and we inadvertently took Jonathan Weiss' tour, and it was GREAT! I say "inadvertently" because we thought we were joining the tour we had paid for but happened to accidentally join Jonathan's tour. Even after he found out what had happened, he was extremely gracious and invited us to remain with his tour. We are so glad we did! He was very knowledgeable and a truly engaging storyteller. He is extremely well versed in the history of New Orleans and the French Quarter. If you are looking for a fun and entertaining tour of the French Quarter, look no further. Last week when visiting New Orleans, I went on Jonathan Weiss' Ghost Tour. Jonathan was our tour guide, and he was great! My family and I went on the Dark History tour and WOW were we blown away!! The tour flew by and we wished it went on for another hour or two. Jonathan is an incredible storyteller and will give you chills, but you want to keep listening. He is so knowledgeable about New Orleans and the deep history it holds. Jonathan is an extraordinary communicator with the history of the locations toured. Throughout the tour you can visually picture what is being described to the point where you can hear and feel what those went through during those times. Cannot recommend booking with JWT enough! Our tour was led by Johnathan himself. Not only is he an expert on the history of New Orleans but clearly a beloved member of the community (he was greeted by friends at nearly every stop). He brought to life dark and terrifying stories of the past while also shedding light on the humanity of the people who lived it. As a die-hard history nerd, this was a treat! Bonus: He'll also point you in the right direction to enjoy locally owned restaurants and shops during your visit :)

Really friendly and personable guy. We booked our tour months ahead online after reading all the great reviews online. . If you use Google maps the starting point for our tour was very easy to find. We started in pirate alley I believe. He Knows alot about the area and all its cool stories. We learned a great amount about restaurants, cool places to check out, and a large amount of the interesting history in this beautiful city. About the middle of the tour we took a 10 min break to get some drinks at a cool historic local bar that used to be a blacksmithing shop. Highly recommend this tour. Had a wonderful time listening to this man get excited about the city he loves.

He is thorough in his history and charismatic in his character. You can tell that he has a genuine love for the French Quarter and its history that you cannot help but share in the end. His anecdotes and stories that he passes down to his guests are captivating to say the least. The grisly details of colonial life as well as the ghost stories that well up from the harsh living conditions are illustrated for us to soak in. Be sure to take advantage of all of the tales that he can share! Make sure he tells you what guests of previous tours have experienced while on his tour. Definitely a must do when in New Orleans. This was our first visit to NOLA and it was amazing! We did the ghost tour and Jonathan was nothing short of AWESOME! This man knows his history of the city and keeps your attention THE WHOLE TIME. Having done 3 guided walking tours while on a short stay in NOLA, I’m confident to say that Jonathan Weiss Tours are the best in the city. The tour guide, Doug, was incredibly knowledgeable and fun. We had the privilege of meeting Jonathan on the tour also, which only added to the experience because of his obvious in-depth knowledge of all things New Orleans. We've been on Jonathan's tours twice already, and loved them both equally! Jonathan is a hypnotic storyteller and quite knowledgeable, but he also knows how to read the crowd and adjust to keep everyone engaged. We had our wedding party in town so we booked a couple of private tours with Jonathan and everyone enjoyed the stories. It was extremely (and unexpectedly) freezing on the day of our tour, but most of our party braved it and it was 100% worth it.

We went on the Dark History Tour of New Orleans with Jonathan Weiss as the tour guide. The tour was very informative and engaging. Our kids ages 11-17 attended this tour and they thought it was amazing. They got to ask lots of questions. Jonathan was very patient and answered all of their questions. He did not mind at all! It was a little early in the day at 5pm (ugh traffic) but it actually gave us time to go eat afterward and enjoy the nightlife of the French quarter before we headed home. I highly recommend this tour for a dark history lesson!

We went on the ghost tour and it was absolutely outstanding. I've been on other haunted tours of the Quarter given by guides who moved to the French Quarter a few years before becoming a tour guide, and anyone with Google and a map could give that tour. THIS tour was nothing like the ones I had gone on before. Our guide was a NOLA native with unique stories and locations and had a genuine interest and respect for the spirit world and the history of New Orleans. I booked the Dark History tour based on a recommendation from a friend and it was a good tour. It was the first tour that I participated in when I arrived in NOLA and Jonathan provided a good overview of NOLA history. I also appreciated the recommendations on where to go and eat. Although for some people the pace might have been on the faster side, for a New Yorker like me the pace was normal. If I had the time, I would book another tour.

Wow, Johnathan puts on one amazing tour! I take a tour in almost every city I visit, and Jonathan proved to be the best in the business! He is a great story teller, and will keep your attention for the whole two hours. He was patient, and answered all of our questions. Jonathan's tours are AWESOME guys! I understand most of the negative reviews are on scheduling and communication. I also had a bit of extra communication needed to book the tour, with my Groupon, but Jonathan gives his phone number and I was able to just text him! He sent back responses and told us where to meet. Extra steps, yes, but it is just one dude and what I'm guessing is his wife doing all of this, so understandable. The tour itself was cool as heck. At first Jonathan seems a bit....odd....maybe even creepy. He does talk fast and has quite the Nahlins draawl, but all of that REALLY adds to this night time tour! His whole demeanor is certainly "different" but he would tell you he IS New Orleans, so buckle up, buttercup! The tour is CHOCK full of info, history, stories, creepiness and Jonathan is funny as hell. By the end of the tour we literally hugged Jonathan. We will take ALL of his other tours next time we are in the area.

My friend and I went on Jonathan's ghost tour in New Orleans! It did not disappoint! I had such a great time. Not only did I get to hear about all the ghost stories, but I learned a lot of history about the city itself. We took several tours on our weekend in NOLA and Jonathan's Vampire walking tour was by far the best money we spent all weekend. It is spooky and entertaining because there are no theatrics involved. He just presents the facts of the history to you without elaboration because the history is creepy enough. The dark history tour is also worth your time. I went on the Dead Frenchmen walking tour with Doug as my tour guide. I’ve been on some French Quarter tours in the past and this was way better. Doug was knowledgeable and enthusiastic and his stories were deeply rooted in history. Being outside of the Quarter, you get to see sights and hear stories that are quite different than the typical walking tour. This was by far the best walking tour I have ever been on. He has an awesome way of sharing stories about the different sites we stopped at that provide a great deal of historical detail without feeling like you're sitting through a lecture class. Several locals said "Hello" to him along the way which we also thought was great (it was good to know the person giving us the tour was an actual member of the community). We did the Dark History Tour of Dead French Men with Doug. We met Doug at a local bar and he walked us through destinations throughout Nola and told us spooky stories. The stories were packed with history and Doug really knew his stuff. We also enjoyed that the tour didn’t take place on Bourbon, instead we got to see a different part of the city a few blocks over which was less crowded. Doug was informative, entertaining and passionate about his work. He answered any questions along the way, and allowed as many drink stops as we wanted. This is a family friendly tour! My wife and i went on a dark history tour with Jonathan and it was a great experience. It was a Friday afternoon tour so there was just us and two more people which i thought was great! It felt really relaxing and friendly. Jonathan’s knowledge of the history of Now Orleans is outstanding. We enjoyed every second of it. The tour was supposed to be 1 hr and 45 min long but it went a bit over two hours. Not only that he tells you historical details that you din’t know but Jonathan will also recommend places where you can get great food, enjoy the live music...etc. I wish we had the time to take the vampire tour with him as this topic was not really covered but I’m sure next time we visit NOLA we will get to experience this as well. I originally booked the Dark History tour with Jonathan, and then, feeling spunky, booked the Vampire tour as well. After the Dark History tour, I knew I wanted to book as many tours as I could with Jonathan on my visit, so I booked the Ghost tour also. Y'all. He KNOWS his STUFF. Jonathan is completely enamored with the city of New Orleans, and it shows. This is not a man who read a book and told you what he read. He has studied these things, he knows the locals, he can recommend the best po'boy shop in the Quarter, and oftentimes, stops to give additional tidbits of information he knows along the way (he pointed out unique architecture on one block during one tour that had nothing to do with vampires but shows how much he loves the city). I have traveled to New Orleans several times and taken tours on every visit, and these were hands down the best ones I've taken, even if I knew the information in them, Jonathan was able to tell them in a way that totally captured attention. You will not be disappointed by his tours!

Jonathan is a wealth of knowledge! We thoroughly enjoyed our our Dark Tour! He warns you up front that there is a LOT of information that he tries to condense down into the 1.5-2 hour tour, so he talks somewhat quickly, but it's because he is passionate about his city and wants to share it all! His information and stories are great and come full circle by the end of each site that you visit. His tour was full of Pirates, Criminals, French and Spanish. He touches a bit on VooDoo, but not much, and there is a hint of blood drinkers. By far our favorite night tour we did. The smaller group size is also a plus over the bigger tour companies that are pushed. THIS IS THE TOUR YOU WANT! I don't think you can go wrong with any of his tours! We will 100% use Jonathan Weiss for another tour if pass back through again.

I had a wonderful time on the tour this past Sunday 11/11/18. This was my first time visiting the city of New Orleans and I HAD to go on a ghost tour. We picked Jonathan Weiss because it had great reviews. I don't necessarily believe in ghosts, but Jonathan Weiss may have made me a believer. If ghosts aren't really your thing, Jonathan still does an incredible job explaining the history of the haunted places you visit so you are still able to fully enjoy the tour. He is a natural and gifted storyteller and he does a great job of keeping everyone engaged and interested. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to go on ghost or dark history or ghost tour of the city. He may even give one of your friends advice on a recent hat purchase if you're lucky. For anyone going on this tour, I would suggest going to the bathroom right before the tour begins if you feel like you need to go at all. The tour runs around 2 hours, I think, and there is a bathroom stop in the middle, but you're not going to want to miss a second of the tour because of your bladder. On top of that, Jonathan is highly charismatic and his theatrical flair makes his tour a memorable experience. As a side note, I'm a huge scaredy cat and horror movies and ghost stories terrify me, but Jonathan's tour on the dark side of New Orleans mixed the city's fascinating history achieved the perfect balance between curious tales and horror. We learned about Jonathan Weiss Tours from friends who had had a fabulous experience on their trip to New Orleans so booking the Dark Side of History Tour with JWT was at the very top of our wish list for our trip to NOLA for Memorial Day weekend 2021. New Orleans is one of my favorite cities and I decided to do a "tourist" type thing with a friend who is a local and both of us were so impressed and had so much fun on Jonathan's tour! So much in fact, that this last year I took my mom on one of his tours again. The tour was just as great the second time and with Jonathan being a local, you learn from an inside view about the city and history from someone that loves his city!

We were in NOLA for French Quarter Fest and were able to do our ghost tour on the last night 04/15/18. We were not disappointed! I had done my research before booking, and while another tour may have been advertised as the most "popular" tour, I went with my gut and booked Jonathan's. I am SO happy I did. It wasn't a HUGE group outing, and I never had any trouble seeing or hearing Jonathan while he spoke, which I had been worried about, because I am a very short person. While walking the city during the days before our tour I had noticed the massive crowds on some of the other company's tours. Jonathan's tours and group were just the right size. I had my 11 year old daughter with me who is a huge Originals and Vampire Diaries fan, and she was so excited to learn that Jonathan had been on an episode. That was the icing on the cake for her! For me, it was learning new and interesting things about the french quarter that I hadn't heard before. That in itself impressed me! I am an avid reader and thought I had read nearly every story of the quarter, but every life and death Jonathan told us about was not one I knew about. I was very enchanted and charmed by Jonathan, he can definitely pull you in while telling you about the lives of those who lived and died in the city. I was not only impressed with the way Jonathan presented himself and spoke to our group, but also his expansive knowledge. He always took the time to stop and ask if we had any questions. Once the tour was over, he took the time to personally thank everyone who joined him that night. Now that is some authentic New Orleans hospitality! I would definitely VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND taking this tour! When we return I plan on doing the Dark History tour and Vampire tour! I honestly can't wait. Thank you Johnathan for the awesome tour! We did two different tours with Jonathan and both were fantastic. The Vampire Tour is not campy, or sparkly. It's extremely interesting and based on things that actually happened in the French Quarter. We did the Ghost Tour with 2 teenage boys, they listened the whole time and never complained that they were bored. That is quite a feat in itself. Jonathan's knowledge of the historic is amazing, and he's a wonderful storyteller. I would definitely recommend Jonathan's tours over all the others available in the French Quarter.

For 2 hours, we meandered through the French Market, Esplanade, Bourbon and ending on Frenchmen Street as he told many stories of dark history and hauntings in this area of the French Quarter. Each time we visit New Orleans, we take Jonathan's tours. We do this because we very much enjoy listening to his highly elaborate descriptions of the darker side of life and events which occurred in old New Orleans. We have taken other tours but they simply cannot measure up to the level of knowledge of history and the paranormal that Jonathan has amassed from years of experiences, research and tales related to him by people who lived through some of the times he relates during his tours. So if it's vampires, ghosts or other things that go bump in the night about which you are interested, don't bother with the other tour companies who prattle on with diluted rote taken from Jonathan's tours; spend your hard earned cash where you will get the most information and entertainment. By the way, some of the newer companies have been started up very recently by people who have moved to New Orleans from other states and have no idea what they're talking, nor the level of experience and knowledge Jonathan has amassed. Take his tours and discover why he has been used as a consultant for so many movies and television shows; why he is the choice of celebrities when they want the best tour available.

Great Information, amazing tour Jonathon was a phenomenal guide. It was my first time in New Orleans and I wanted to learn about the history. We took the Dark History tour which was a good mix of historical information and gruesome crime. Jonathon's information was incredible, we learned so much from him. He was able to answer all of our questions and took into consideration the interests of our particular group. We saw a lot of the French Quarter in a new way, and went home with a lot of neat stories to tell. There was a break about halfway through at a bar so you could get something to drink or sit down for a few minutes. I would recommend dressing comfortably to walk around outside for a few hours as well. If I ever go back to New Orleans, I would take another one of his tours.

Arranged a tour on short notice for my Niece's birthday and communication was fantastic to help us create an amazing memorable experience. From the sparkle in his eyes when Jonathan crafted his tales that invoked vivid images of the past, you could tell he was passionate about his art. Make no mistake, it was art. His historic chronicles became no longer just words, he truly breathed life into death . . . LOTS of death. His Dark History and Ghost tours were certainly the highpoints of our visit to NOLA. Finding someone similar to Jonathan in every city traveled to would be an absolute gem of a vacation. He makes sure you are informed and feel comfortable every step of the way. No shrill ghost stories and hard to hear speeches as you walk around a block, but rather well spoken and thought out stories plucked from time and given in a stand still setting. We knew that we wanted to do some sort of walking tour, but did not want to end up on something that was cheesy or over the top. If what you are looking for is a tour based on actual dark happenings in New Orleans this is the tour for you. As Jonathan says in the beginning of his tour he has a lot of knowledge to get out and a short time to do it, as such his talking pace is anything but slow. However, everyone in our group got accustomed to it after about 5min. He definitely has a unique style, which I could see not being everyone's cup of tea, but we all thoroughly enjoyed it. He invites you to ask questions and seemed to actually enjoy some of the more difficult ones we asked him. Despite the pouring rain we all learned a lot and had quite a bit of fun. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting New Orleans.

I wasn't sure what tour to take in the French quarter since there was so many but after doing some research and finding out Keegan Michael Key and Jordan Peele took this tour (even Method Man whaaaat!?) My husband and I booked the Dark History Tour with Jonathan Weiss and was able to purchase tickets through Groupon for ~$13. Finding the meeting location was confusing at first, because instructions tell you to go to 622 Pirate's Alley, but the building was locked and no other signs were there. We weren't able to phone anyone for help, but shortly found out that a guide was waiting with a sign some steps away. We left for the tour at 5:04PM (the tour was scheduled for 5:00PM) and it lasted about 2 hours. Our tour guide was Natalie and she did an amazing job at immersing the group in her stories. She went over some Voodoo History and talked about the famous Marie Laveau (which was so interesting!), Jean Lafitte and the legend of his buried treasure, and much more. She was very friendly and knowledgeable as she's currently studying the history of NOLA as a PhD graduate student. I went on another tour one night later and it definitely was nothing compared to this one. Only reason why I'm giving 4-stars is because I had hoped we would get Jonathan Weiss as our tour guide since I've read so many cool things about him. Fun Fact: Jonathan Weiss was a consultant (and acted as a consultant) for Vampire Diaries and for The Originals!

Jonathan is jammed packed with amazing information. I took his vampire tour back in 2003,2004 and again in 2008. Each one was unique and different. He's seriously the best tour guide in new Orleans.

My husband and I decided to go with the “Dark History” tour during our cross country trip from California, and it was everything I expected plus more. If you’re interested in having an AUTHENTIC experience with an expert tour guide that has historical ties to the city, Weiss is your guy! We were in proximity of a few larger tour guide companies and the experience just does not compare.. I learned so much information, and although it is a lot to process he does his best to make sure he covers main points in the allotted time. You will be mind blown after 2 hours on this tour. Even if you think you have a good grasp on the history of this ancient city, you’ll realize you ain’t seen nothin yet! Do yourself a favor and book your tour with this genuine expert.

My daughter and I went to NoLa for her birthday and it was her first time visiting. I had been before and done ghost tours, cemetery tours, etc and had line up three tours for our trip. The first one was an absolute JOKE with being told to download a bs app on our phones to detect ghosts 🙄 and the second was guided very quickly and rehearsed through the cemetery. We saved the BEST for last and that was with Jonathan Weiss! We were enthralled and hung on every word of his stories that drew you in with his gifted storytelling. It was not rushed at all and we had a stop off for a bathroom and drink break as well. The next time I’m there I will only do his tour! Can’t wait to check out the vampire tour next.
