Reviews of Cajun Encounters Tours
The most amazing, entertaining tour we’ve done so far. Our tour guide Emmit was great. He kept the tour engaging with his comical style facts. I definitely recommend and the sunset views are picturesque. So worth the humidity and the alligators are insane to see. I would do it again if given the chance. Staff is very pleasant and courteous in the gift shop. Everyone was all around fabulous.
From the minute we boarded the shuttle, our driver Steve had us laughing. Steve also did a wonderful job detailing the history of New Orleans and the French Quarter, as well as the other surrounding areas en route to the swamp. He did so in a way that was informative and entertaining, which suited even the youngest of passengers.
Once there, the gift shop was very nice, offering souvenirs and drinks/snacks for purchase. The boat assignment and lineup were very organized, and it was not long before boarding began.
We took the smaller boat tour, which suited our wants, as it was much more intimate. Captain Desi was the best! Not only was Desi very knowledgeable about alligators and Honey Swamp, but his deep background in conservation efforts and ecology, which provided for many answered questions and anecdotes, shined through the entire tour. We toured two different areas- one deep in the swamp, the other on the river, and we saw nearly 10 alligators, a wild boar and raccoon up close and personal, endangered turtles, several types of beautiful birds, and plenty of plant life. The tour was very interesting and fun, and it’s a must if you want to get out in nature or love and appreciate animals. Steve and Desi, you guys both provided a 5-star experience, from start to finish! Thank you!!
We have been booking swamp tours with Cajun Encounters for 10 years. We love their tours so much that we book specially with them every time we are in town. We have done both where they pick us up or we drive to the location it just depends on if we have plans after the tour and want the flexibility to drive to dinner or have other plans. Tours start on time so get there early and check in to get your wristband. Every single boat tour is different and your captain is sure to provide you with a lot of information and history of the area. Our most current visit was 6/10/22 with captain Scott D. He was an amazing guide and went above and beyond to provide the best experience on this trip. We saw 4-5 different bird species, visited the wishing well tree, saw a large boar that he fed right in front of us and we saw countless gators, on top of all the beautiful views the swamp offers. Scott D., even went on the hunt to find my favorite gator which is one that has a broken jaw. The highlight of this trip was a gator getting very close to a family of raccoons trying to see if he could catch one. I highly recommend this adventure and hope you and your family/friends book with them and enjoy it as much as we do!
This tour was a BLAST! My group and I had so much fun here. I went with a large group and we were completely accommodated for our size. The wait to get on the boat was minimal and the overall tour was the perfect amount of time for the price. We got to see loads of wildlife (lots being really large gators) that were closer to you than any zoo could give to you. On top of that my group’s Captain, Captain Walker, was hilarious and extremely knowledgeable of anything and everything there. Overall, this was a very fun experience for me and my group.
An absolute must see when visiting NOLA!!! Captain Eddie was not only a great “driver and very knowledgeable, but he had an AWESOME sense of humor! We got to see some beautiful scenery and “met” the local wildlife! Never a dull moment the entire time we were on the water. The whole staff was very down to earth and run a smooth operation. On a personal note…when the engine is turned off, you gain a whole new appreciation for the quiet and beauty of the swamp. It allows you to stop time and just be! We will definitely be returning!!!
Our tour was exceptional! From start to finish,, the pickup was on time and the bus driver Dwayne kept us entertained and informed the entire ride. Our boat guide John Katz was the best! He was a pleasure to listen to with info , history, humor and an ability to call out the creatures from their hiding spots. He clearly loves his job and does it well. I highly recommend this trip and the team at Cajun Encounters!
My husband and I went on the City and Cemetery tour. Our diver, Karen, was very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. We found this tour to be a great way to see the highlights of the city in a comfortable, stress free manor.
Our second tour was the Swamp tour. Our captain, Desi, was also very knowledgeable. His easy going manner and willingness to answer questions helped make the trip fun. He was very willing to accommodate us when we spotted wild life and wanted to take pictures.
Also, our bus driver, Rene, was great.
Cool tour! This was my first time seeing an alligator in person so the bar was not very high. Most of the gators we saw were pretty small. The boats were a little rickety but the guides are confident and familiar with the waters. The website discourages bug repellent because they move fast but there were plenty of times we sat around and I ended up w several bites (from bugs not gators). We saw a few birds, giant spiders, several small gators and a couple that were bigger. The swamp raccoons were really cute. After seeing the gators the boat speeds through the swamp and you get the privilege of seeing the surrounding boat houses….it goes pretty fast so it’s not a total waste.
I booked this tour because I was told I would be able to touch an alligator but after the tour was through, our guide said he was not trained to hold them. I ended up waiting around for 15 minutes after the tour until one of the ladies in the office volunteered to do it. I’m not sure where she was initially. However, they were really nice about it and let us hold them. Pretty cool experience! Make sure someone is there that can help if you want that experience. There was no additional cost. I can’t say how the other tours compare…
We did the Swamp Tour through Cajun Encounters and it was amazing! We had Captain Pat and he was a fantastic tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and I learned so much about the swamps. He was fun and made everyone feel very comfortable. I couldn't have asked for a better guide! During the swamp tour, we were lucky enough to see some of the wildlife! I highly recommend this activity during your stay!
Cajun Encounters Swamp Tour was awesome! Captain Desi was very knowledgeable and has a great personality. He pointed out animals in the swamp that I would not have found on my own. The information on the plants was very intriguing. I learned a lot on the tour. The bus driver Steve was great. Fun personality and kept us entertained on the trip with a lot of history and stories. I would highly recommend this tour.
The swamp tour was great! We chose the transfer bus and it was a great surprise that our driver, Derek, gave us an impromptu city guided tour and recommended tons of restaurants in New Orleans, all of which we tried were fantastic! The swamp tour was awesome, it was cold for alligators but we saw raccoons and hogs. Our captain was super cool, unfortunately I forgot his name but he is a super laid back southern guy with long hair and baseball cap. In one sentence he's explaining the temperature dependence of alligator egg germination, in the other he's joking about marrying his sister :D he would totally deserve the monthly prize, I hope the company can recognize him based on this.
Great tour with Captain Barry! Enjoyed his local knowledge and he ensured that everyone got a chance to see the wildlife. We were lucky enough to see plenty of alligators, birds, turtles, and raccoons. The tour was well organized and I would suggest this company based not only on that but also on the fact that the snacks they fed the alligators were more natural than marshmallows, etc.
My sons & I took the 8:00 gator tour and really enjoyed it! Capt. Everett was great & entertained us with his jokes. We saw lots of little gators and a few big guys, too! Worthwhile experience! Glad we booked the early tour before it got too hot. We also had the greatest bus driver/guide ever, Dwayne! Made the ride out to the swamps very entertaining!
We took the small boat tour with Captain Desi. He was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot about the swamp, the river and the wildlife. We thought the extra money to be on the smaller boat was well worth it. Our bus ride there was comfortable and our driver was great. We chose to get picked up near the French Quarter instead of trying to rent a car. So glad we did this! My husband was reluctant, but was really glad he went.
We took this tour around mid-June and fortunately scorching sun allowed us to enjoy the tour. It was great experience and we saw more than enough Alligators and few interesting birds. Enjoyed our boat captain Zander’s commentary and he had answers to all the questions. Delightful man and wonderful driver.
If you are looking for swamp tour then my vote goes to Cajun encounters!!
This tour was awesome and the whole experience was so convenient! From the online booking, to the kind customer service woman who was able to reschedule my partner and I 24 hours before the tour we wanted, to the super convenient hotel pickup and drop off, and finally the tour itself—cannot recommend this company enough! Captain Jacob was so knowledge and personable, making the tour a really fun experience. And we saw everything from alligators to snakes to turtles to raccoons to different kinds of birds, and more! You simply can’t leave NOLA without doing this.
Awesome swamp tour! I was thoroughly pleased with our guide, and I was entranced by the beauty of the bayou and it’s’ creatures. The communication from the time of booking was a plus for me, text alerts for the time of my tour, texts with directions, and while I was there it was easy to find out where I was supposed to go. Stress free!! Great gift shop and easy parking! Plenty of restrooms and life jackets supplied for kids.
From start to finish, we really enjoyed our tour! Our bus driver (Dan?) did a great job educating us on the history of the area we were driving through. We heard some really interesting history on Katrina and the aftermath, something that we had missed on other tours in the area. Our boat driver Barry was also really knowledgeable about the swamp! It was honestly such a great learning experience, plus the swamp and marshes were absolutely beautiful! Highly recommend!
I highly recommend the swamp tour! Our guide, Emmett, was very personable and knowledgeable and brought humor with his presentation. He was great at catching all the wildlife, including all the hidden snakes. He would go out of his way to be sure all on the boat had a good view of all the animals we spotted. Our bus driver to Cajun Encounters, Steve, was also great! He was very knowledgeable in the history of New Orleans and brought some entertainment, while driving safely!Definitely a great way to spend a day in New Orleans!
Cajun encounters is highly recommended if you are visiting NOLA with kids or even if you love wild life and nature! We spotted so many animals from our boat - alligators, squirrels, turtle and so much more. The boat tour was very entertaining. They even offer blankets to keep yourself warm. Our Captain MR. John Katz was a very entertaining personality. He patiently answered my 9 year old inquisitive son’s all questions 😊. Our bus ride from hotel to the swamp was also very smooth and pleasant. Everything completed in timely smooth manner.
It was a wonderful tour, Daune “the rock” our bus driver was the best. He was funny and knowledgeable on all things. My boat ride was beautiful and fun. Saw lots of gators and wild life. Our boat tour guild was great too. Worth the money.
My wife and I decided to spend New Year’s in New Orleans. We booked a swamp tour on a whim and I’m really glad we did. Captain Walker took us out to Honey Island Swamp. He was extremely knowledgeable, personable, and funny. It felt like we were being shown around by a friend we’ve had for decades. It was definitely one of the highlights of our trip and I don’t think I could recommend it more highly. If you want to see a different, more natural side of Louisiana….PLEASE do yourself a favor and book a tour with Cajun Encounters and Captain Walker.
Amazing experience with Captain Pat! He was incredibly knowledgeable about the swamp, its residents and their lifestyle and the animals that live in and around the water. He was funny, friendly and we enjoyed the time we spent with him. We got to see a couple gators, lots of turtles, snakes, birds and other wildlife.
Our driver Emicka was funny, entertaining and she gave us some insight on life in New Orleans before and after the hurricane. The bus ride itself was its own little tour worth every minute.
Thanks to everyone involved for such a great experience.
The experience was awesome our guide was Eddie and he was honestly the best! He talked the entire ride gave us so much knowledge in regards to New Orleans and the swamp. He did his best to find alligators and crocodiles even though it’s hibernation season. He really made the trip. Our bus driver was also amazing I wish I could remember his name because he did awesome he was driving bus 51 on 2/14/22 and explained the process so we did not feel lost. He even gave us history on our drive to the swamp.
We took a tour last week. It was very well ran and organized. You can opt for the NOLA bus pick up which we did. You do need to wait a little for the bus depending on where your pick up point is but no big deal. Grab yourself a daiquiri while you wait.
The bus was comfy and our driver BamBam was informative and fun.
We took the small boat tour which in my opinion was definitely worth the extra money. There was no roof on the boat and less people.
Our guide Will was great. Very knowledgeable about the landscape and animals living in the swamp. Since it was winter time we didn’t see any big gators but saw some smaller ones, a snake, a giant bird I forge the name of and my favorite - Raccoon! Overall a great time and would do again.
We had so much fun on the swamp tour!! John was our captain and he was very knowledgeable and ready to answer any questions. John made sure we saw a variety of the wildlife. He was very personable and made this experience a great memory. I would definitely recommend this tour
Great day out in the swamps! Really worth the money and our coach driver Derrick was excellent, funny, informative and had a nice personal touch with some great restaurant and local recommendations. Same goes for our boat driver, Captain Pat, really informative and fun, great local personal stories. Got to see loads of alligators and racoons! 100% recommend.
We had a great time on the small boat swamp tour with Captain Sony. He has great spying eyes and pointed out everything the swamp had to offer. I think he even made up a few things to delight me on our travels. The gators came right up to the boat. Captain Sony had lots of funny quips and entertaining stories. I’m so glad we were on the small boat tour. It felt like a private booking. Highly recommend.
Great time on the swamp tour from Cajun Encounters! Informative and engaging bus driver Derek and Captain Sam made the experience so much fun! We got up close and personal with alligators, turtles and raccoons. Personal anecdotes, science and comedy all rolled into one. We were lucky with picture perfect weather as well. On time and clean bus with excellent driving. Definitely a must do on a trip to New Orleans
This was a fun experience! Captain Scott did a great job giving us the history of the area as well as helping spot some of wildlife thay we would have missed otherwise. We got to see the alligators, turtles, and even wild hog! My little one loved being able to see them so close! We would definitely recommend this tour to others!
We had the afternoon tour. We chose pickup option. Luckily after hours of rain the skies cleared up in time for our tour. Our bus driver Joy was on time, gracious and gave us great Infor about hurricane Katrina on the way there.
Our captain was Captain Walker. He gave us a fantastic tour with lot of information, and we all out questions and kept us entertained with jokes.
We saw gators, egrets and raccoons.
Would recommend this company for swamp tours!
Great experience.
Captain Zander took us on a great tour of the swamp and rivers. He’s very professional and yet you feel like you’ve known him forever. The tour was very comfortable, you’re in a shaded boat, and most of the time there’s a breeze. In addition to the beautiful scenery, there’s a bunch of wildlife to see as well.
Highly recommended.
My husband and I had the best time on the Honey Island Swamp tour. We learned so much about New Orleans from our bus driver, Dwayne, before we even got to the swamp.
Captain Pat was really funny and an amazing tour guide on our boat. He had so many great facts and a brilliant knowledge of the swamps and all the wildlife living there, he made the whole experience so much fun and really interesting.
I can’t recommend this tour highly enough!
This was one of my highlights of ANY vacation I’ve ever done.
Zip lining and mud-bogging in the Dominican? This beats that. Climbing castles in Spain? Close, but ALSO beats that. Hiking the Canadian Rockies? This was less sweaty AND my legs didn’t hurt so bad, so of course this beats that.
First- the pickup service. Convenient locations from the French quarter, and clean/ not in some creepy dark alley. Where we were picked up is also a prime location for some of the local “loiterers”, but nothing too bad.
The bus to pick everyone up was huge- tons of space, comfortable, and air conditioned. Our driver Jerry made the 40 minute drive feel like nothing with the sightseeing he gave us on the way!
Next- the check in process. We arrived in a bus of 40+ other people, yet stood in line for only a few minutes. The team here have this process down to a T and everything was smooth! The store inside has beverages, snacks, and souvenirs.
Now the fun part- the actually tour and captain Sunny. When the 40+ people were all sorted into their groups I saw what must have been the group that paid for the more expensive tour, and I cursed under my breath telling my husband we should have done that (I don’t like people, and would have preferred a smaller group experience). Captain Sonny soon changed my mind! The boat was large enough for the group to fit comfortably, covered from the sun (and snakes), and he steered the whole thing as effortlessly as he walks. The tour was about 2 hours total (9:30-11:30) but I could have spent all day out there learning about all of the different swamp plants you can eat, honey, and watching all of the alligators who might as well be pets at this point swim up for some treats. Sonny was funny, safe, and the man deserves a raise. Or four.
Only downside of the experience is we didn’t get to see any swamp pigs- probably because the gator’s already ate them all.
Thanks for such a great trip, Sonny and team!
We went on the Swamp tour today at 2:45 with Captain Scott and he was fantastic! Clearly knew his way through the swamp/bayou, and really took time to explain wildlife and plants, slowed down for so many things so everyone had an opportunity to see. It was educational and fun. He said he worked as a game warden prior to this and his knowledge about Louisiana swamp was wonderful. We had two adults and three kids ages 17, 13, 13 and we all loved it. Highly recommend it!! It has been unseasonably warm in NOLA and we saw lots of alligators on logs sunning themselves today which was a special treat. Cajun Encounters was very organized with so many boats going out at once—they used color coded bands so it was easy to know who was going on which group. From start to finish it was very well done—highly recommend Cajun Encounters and Captain Scott!
Swamp tour at sunset. Our guide Zander was great! He was funny and informative. He even managed to find us a swamp hog! Not what we expected at all. There were gators, frogs, and water fowl too. The kids enjoyed it too.
We had so much fun on our tour with Desi! He was so informative, you can tell he really enjoys his job. As a lover of animals and nature this was the highlight of my trip to New Orleans! Highly recommend for a fun day activity. Our pick up driver Rene was also amazing and funny!
Loved our Tour of the Bayou with Capt. Sonny! Couldn’t have gotten a better tour guide! Loved the entire trip with him, the factual and funny sides of it. Would love to come back for another trip! Also understand that you aren’t always guaranteed to see a ton of animals… it is a swamp tour, not a zoo. Also take into account of the time of year… hotter=more animals by water.
Had a blast on our Swamp tour with this company!! Captain Walker shared a lot of knowledge and this wasn't just offered talk but able to answer many questions that were sent his way. He cracked a lot of jokes and made the tour fun and enjoyable. I even cracked a few of my own and he said "oh man! You're giving me some new material!!" Made me want to come be a swamp tour captain because of the banter!! Definitely check them out of you are visiting New Orleans. They offered pick at at multiple locations near where we were staying before getting us to the Honey Island swamp for our tour! On another note, we lost a Pandora bracelet and had no idea where it happened. Took a chance and called them and they had it!! They offered to ship it back to our Home I'm Atlanta, but later they sent it with one of their Drivers Steve the following day and we met him at one of the pick up spots to retrieve it! All in all! Great experience and customer service was above and beyond. Special thanks to Steve our driver for his banter and history lesson and Captain Walker for all described above! 👏 👏👏👏
This experience was one for the books. It started with a great bus pick up from Dwayne. He was so funny and took time to point out important landmarks and provide history as we left New Orleans. The. Captain Desi, who drove our boat, was so knowledgeable from his years of being a conservation officer and it served us well. We got to learn so much about the ecosystem in the swamp and the history of how things arrived here in the americas. What we enjoyed most about the tour was that it didn’t feel disruptive to the animals. We just witnessing a system in motion but not disturbing it. The ride was relaxing and thrilling all in one. Highly recommend.
My family and I did the swamp tour and we had a blast! Everything was perfect, from making reservations all the way to the gift shop at the end. We had Captain Pat! He was funny and very informative! We saw alligators, turtles, raccoons and wild boar! It was amazing! And the items in the gift shop are priced very fair! All in all, a wonderful company!
Amazing touring company! My family accidentally went to the wrong location to be picked up and the bus driver waited for us! Great communication and easy contact when calling the company. Aly, who helped us realize we were in the wrong pick up spot, was so friendly!! It was amazing service from start to finish. Dwayne our driver was amazing and funny and made the 45 minute bus ride so quick and entertaining, and he provided us with some information along the way of Louisiana history and geography. Our captain, Zander, was a great tour guide along the swamp. He was very knowledgeable and his Louisiana authenticity made me feel like I was not on a “tourist attraction.” He’s a local and it showed! Definitely recommend asking for him! Got to see alligators as well as other wildlife. Boat ride was easy and smooth, I typically get sea sick but I felt fine! I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Thank you to all! Will be back! :)
This place is amazing. Captain Wil (in the attached picture) is super fun and knowledgeable about the entire swamp tour area. He is entertaining and knows how to engage all his boat members. The trip and history about the alligators, racoons, plants and trees is just amazing. I think he was the best tour guide I have ever had in all my tourism trips. Highly recommend this place and to take the boat ride.
My husband and I booked both a cemetery and city bus tour as well as a swamp tour.
Our bus tour guide, Karen, was a delight, very knowledgeable and funny. I recommend doing this early on in your trip to get some good history and the lay of the land so you can decide where you want to spend your time.
Our swamp tour guide Will, was also incredibly knowledgeable and charming and we had an excellent time. We also had a great bus driver, Dwayne.
We had a wonderful experience with our tour. Captain Barry was very personable and extremely knowledgeable! Even though it was very hot and a 12:30pm tour, we saw alligators, turtles, raccoons, numerous varieties of birds and plants, fishing spiders, and several iconic locations from movies. We would definitely book this tour again!!
Our guides name was Zander and he gave an OUTSTANDING tour! He stopped at nearly every twist and turn and gave us a thorough explanation on the ecosystem within the Honey Island Swamp. His passion for what he does shows, and his knowledge on the bayou was endless. Absolutely an incredible, unforgettable experience. 100% would recommend.
Took a buss tour around the city today it wasn't quite 3 hours but it was a lot of fun. See if you can get Renée as a driver/ tour guide. He was a great driver ( very safe) and grew up around here knows a lot about the area. 10/10 would take his tour again. The company has the tour set up so you can get out and see one of the graveyards and takes you to a local Distillery. Both places you can get out and walk around. Love way to get a feel for the city on our 1st night in town.
Captain Zander was awesome!! Great swamp tour seeing multiple wildlife including alligators, birds, raccoons, turtles and wild pigs. Captain Zander was so informative being raised in the area(he has a great sense of humor also). Would highly recommend this tour. It has been the highlight of our trip!!
The venue is excellent, and CAPTAIN JESSUP was so knowledgeable and well- versed in the ways of the wildlife, and the many species of flora. He shared so much history of the swamp, the Native People who lived there, and those who settled in the area. He even shared some of his experiences growing up on the swamp, which served to enrich our experience. Our bus driver, Jerry, even pointed out places of historical interest along the route from New Orleans to the swamp, which I truly appreciated. I will gladly recommend Cajun Encounters in the future, and look forward to returning one day!
A great way to experience swamp and marsh while in southern Louisiana. Pickup was convenient while staying at the Marriott on Canal in New Orleans. Friendly staff. Captain Wade was a wonderful guide who really knew the area and obviously cared deeply for the environment and critters. It was also a nice way to see some of the area outside New Orleans on the drive to the swamp. Only downside was I had thought about also doing a city tour but I couldn't get the website to give me the discounted 2 tour price.
We took a swamp tour, enjoyed it very much. Our boat captain, Will, was funny, friendly, positive, and knowledgeable — and according to my girlfriend very handsome :-D
We learned a lot and had a good time. Decent value, well-organized.
Great tour from start to finish! Our bus driver Joy was great and told us a lot about the city as we were driving out to the swamp. Captain Emmett was so engaging and knowledgeable, answering any questions we all had and was very witty. I would highly recommend this tour.
We did the VIP tour with Sonny yesterday. Highly recommend. He loves his job and you can tell. Saw lots of gators and turtles and a bald eagle. Very cool riding through the swamp. It is a very well run and organized operation.
This was SO much fun! Our tour guide was the best! He told us so many fun facts about alligators & Honey Island Swamp. We even got to hold a baby gator! I most definitely recommend adding this to your trip if you're heading to New Orleans because it was worth every penny.
From start to finish amazing adventure.
Ketchup was a great guide, so fun, so knowledgeable, and showed us so many amazing creatures. He kept the tour entertaining and it was a blast. Tip: Smaller boat was way worth it for smaller tour and animal interaction.
Jerry the bus driver was super nice and friendly. He was very knowledgeable as well.
The transport was very luxurious. The bus was super comfortable, clean and relaxing.
Overall, best trip and definitely a good choice.
Had a lot of fun on our first ever swap tour. Captain Wil was as knowledgeable about the flora and fauna as he was funny. Enjoyed the little tid bits he told us about the swamp and guy can make you laugh for sure!! The weather was perfect, tour started on time, boats were comfortable. Overall a great experience!! Definitely recommend when in NOLA!
Wow! This tour was incredible & our tour guide Jerry was the best! He was super informative, friendly & funny. There was never a dull moment and we got to view all sorts of wild life; Alligators galore! The cutest raccoons, herons, etc. Definitely worth the drive!
Capt. Walker was a great guide who was very informative, entertaining and very willing to answer any questions people had. The tour felt like a good value for the cost of the ticket, especially including transportation from the city. Glad we settled on Cajun
The swamp tour was fantastic! Our guide Desi was super knowledgeable about the area and the entire ecosystem. We walked away not only seeing tons of awesome wildlife (lots of up close gators, a giant boar, a family of raccoons, plenty of birds, and turtles), but also with a wealth of super interesting information about all of them, animal conservation and the history of the river and swamp. We were very fortunate to have Desi as our guide--request him if you can! Thank you Desi, and Cajun Encounters!!
We had the best tour with Desi yesterday. We saw lots of gators, turtles, birds, a raccoon and a wild boar, among lots of other fish and plants. He was also very knowledgeable and we learned a lot. We were picked up and dropped off at a hotel near ours which was very convenient. We would recommend the small boat tour it was excellent and there was only my husband, myself, and 3 other people on the boat. It was well worth the money.
Captain Pat was an excellent tour guide. He was funny and informative. He also took us to some great spots to see some amazing wildlife. We must’ve seen like 20 alligators of various sizes. We also saw raccoons, fish, and various plant species. Definitely a spot you should check out if you’re coming to New Orleans.
Captain Barry was a fantastic tour guide! He showed us numerous alligators, turtles, raccoons, snakes & birds. He even turned the boat both ways in order to give everyone a chance to take a good picture. Captain Barry was extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife as well as their habitats and conservation of the land. It was well worth the trip! We loved it!
Cajun Encounters Swamp Tour was Awesome! Captain Zander was Great! He was funny and very knowledgeable about the animals and plants. He pointed out all the wildlife and made sure everyone had a chance to see and take pictures. We really enjoyed our tour!
Had an amazing morning on the river with Cajun encounters! Our guide Zander made the experience unique and entertaining. His experience growing up and living on the water truly made his knowledge unmatched. We appreciated his insight about the many beings that live on the swamp, humans and critters included. He made us feel comfortable to ask questions and made sure we all felt safe and entertained on the water. We learned so much from him and had a great time looking at alligators, egrets, turtles, and raccoons while we did it!
We had an AMAZING time!!! The tour was wonderful. We saw raccoons, wild boar, birds and of course alligators! We saw about 6-7 alligators. Captain Michael was awesome. He knew so much about the river and the history and was able to inform us of all the life on the bayou. I definitely recommend this tour!
Great tour on Saturday with Captain Zander! Man, he really has acquired a great Cajun accent being from California….🤣🤣🤣. We finally found his ex wife - Kevin Bacon (the Wild Boar). He was very informative and definitely knowledgeable! Knows several people around and seems like they all like him. Got to see a Huge Catfish that someone that lives on the river caught. They hollered at him to back up so we could see it! Highly recommend getting him as your captain, but if not I’m sure you will have a great experience! My son even got to hold an alligator! And something else we appreciated, the prices for water and snacks were priced very reasonable! Thank you!
Dwayne "the rock" Brown was an awesome bus driver. Very informative and entertaining to listen to while just being an all around charming guy. Our kayaking guide was capt Sam and I cannot speak highly enough of him. Sam was such a great guide and my friend and I learned so much about the swamp. Sam helped us spot so many cool sights and was an absolute pleasure to talk to in general about anything and everything; a real down to earth guy. I can't wait to look him up next time we're back in NOLA.
Wade was our VIP tour guide and he was excellent! He was incredibly excited to teach us about the wildlife and flora of the swamp! He found us a great spot to take pictures of the Gators and feed them some biscuits! We saw turtles, snake, egrets and even a cute racoon! I would highly recommend Wade and the VIP tour option!
Walker gave us an awesome swamp tour… he went out of his way to find animals, point out different features and habitats as well as history. We had people from teen aged to adults and everyone had a great time. We really like George Cooney! Thanks for a great trip and we will definitely recommend you to all of our friends and family that come through
The tour was amazing!! Our driver Steve was very informative and Garry was a very entertaining captain. We went on another tour and this one beat it by far!! I also respect that the team has complete respect and love for the creatures in the swamp and it shows.
The swamp was beautiful, peaceful and Zander was an amazing guide. You can tell his heart is with Pearl River. He shared a lot of cool things with us about the lands; there were gators galore and some beautiful birds. Nice welcome breeze on the boat was a great reprieve from the Nola humidity.
I’ve been to Louisiana 30 or so times and have never done a swamp tour— would highly recommend it and especially this company to anyone. Thanks Zander and crew!
Fantastic and a must-do when visiting NOLA. My husband and I did a swamp tour in early December and utterly enjoyed every minute of it, including the bus ride from the city. Our bus driver was Derek and he did a phenomenal job telling us about the city, its past and present, the devastation caused by hurricane Katrina and its far-reaching effects, and he also gave us some great restaurant tips. The swamp tour itself was not only fun but also very informative. Captain Desi cares greatly about the environment and he made some excellent points about invasive species. He was also great about slowing down and stopping so that everyone could get a better look at and take pictures of the birds, animals, and reptiles we encountered on our way. We saw a great number of turtles, 5-6 alligators, a family of about 10 racoons plus some lone ones here and there, and lots of herons. Highly recommend.
We had an amazing tour lead by a local, Zander! We were fortunate to see Lola the alligator, Kevin Bacon the wild boar and several other smaller alligators. The entire experience was well worth the price to see the Louisiana swamp! Definitely recommend.
When in Louisiana, you just HAVE to do a swamp tour at least once. We’re so glad we booked one. We saw lots of gators and other wildlife and had an absolute BLAST!!! Our kiddos are young (2 and 4) and started to get restless towards the end, but our tour guide, Todd, tried his best to engage with them even handing them a large snail shell to hold and look at while also keeping the other guests engaged!! He was awesome and super knowledgeable about the history of the animals and plants along many other things. The other staff was very friendly and social. We had a great time and 100% would recommend Cajun Encounters to anyone!!!
Everything was well organized and fun on our swamp tour. Dwayne the bus driver drove safely while providing information about the area on the ride to the swamp. John R safely drove the boat while providing funny, informative information about the swamp. You can tell he knows his stuff. Overall such a fun outing worth the time and money.
Fantastic experience in the swamp. I got the package that included transportation. Fran was a great driver; she arrived promptly and gave us great history of the city on the ride there.
We were quickly transported to the boats after checkin. Pat was an amazing captain; very knowledgeable and hilarious! Ask for him when you go. We were able to see several gators up close during the 9:30 am tour.
The tour with captain Jessep was awesome. He showed us all sorts of animals and plants with lots of information about them. Very entertaining with up close experiences with the wildlife. He also gave great local food recommendations and places to visit. We loved our Cajun encounter trip.
My wife and I went on the VIP swamp tour.
Our tour guide Captain John Katz was exceptionally excellent, very friendly knowledgeable and interactive with us. He gave us an unforgettable experience and shared with us his love to the area and wild life.
The tour takes approximately 2 hours with continuous excitement.
Highly recommended
Zero complaints and a highly organized, informative and exciting experience. This was honestly my favorite part of New Orleans. I was thoroughly unimpressed with Bourbon St and found it quite unbearable but that may be because my party days have been long over. Highly recommend this for those who are more into nature and wildlife. We saw over 25 alligators on our route and Captain Walker was hilarious (mildly offensive at times but nothing intolerable) and extremely knowledgeable!
Emicka our bus driver was fabulous, told us about the neighbourhoods as we drove out of the city and was so funny too. Our boat captain Gary grew up on the river and was really knowledgeable. The boats used have been changed to be less environmentally destructive and the guides don't interfere with the wildlife too much. Pick up and drop off couldn't have gone smoother. Would definitely recommend.
We had an amazing time on our first ever swamp tour with Captain Pat! The scenery was amazing, the information he provided about the history and area was so great, and the wildlife he was able to show us was so exciting!!! Not too mention he was very funny and kept us laughing. We even got to see a Nutria!! Highly recommend Cajun Encounters, ask for Captain Pat if you can!!
Zander was so genuine and really knew the area. He was a great guide and I felt like we were getting a full tour from someone super knowledgeable, which I loved! The boat was great- very smooth and wonderful ride. We saw lots of gators and other animals, including turtles, raccoons and beautiful egret birds. Also, Daniel the bus driver was fantastic at giving us a really thorough tour on the way to the swamp- I learned a lot about the area around New Orleans, and about Hurricane Katrina and it’s effects. I’m SO happy I took this tour! Highly recommended!
A great experience! Everybody I really knowledgeable! We got picked up in town with a nice coach and our bus driver (Dwayne) gave some great insights of New Orleans during the trip! Our captain Ketchup was great! Would definitely recommend!
Loved the tour- captain Zander was very knowledgeable and fun. We saw a lot of animals- alligators, birds, turtles, raccoons…etc. highly recommended. The bus driver Steve was very fun to ride with, shared a lot of New Orleans history and sorry about wetland.
This adventure stared out with great stories and history about New Orleans and this was all while on the bus! Driver Steve had us laughing and made the short trip out of the city fun.
Getting to the gift shop, check in was simple and clear. I even stepped out of my comfort zone by holding a baby alligator! Such a perfect photo opportunity.
Set out on the water about noon and saw animals before we left the dock! Captain Zander shared stories of his experiences on the water and how he grew up on the bayou; that knowledge was incredibly cool and made the trip exciting and personable. Saw so many alligators, learned about the tides, and had fun during the whole thing. I would very much recommend this trip to anyone!
Had a great time on the swamp tour with Captain Zander. He was charming and very knowledgeable about the Pearl River and the swamp, as he grew up and still lives there. It was a beautiful day on the water. We saw red eared turtles, snowy egrets, great blue herons, a pair of cute raccoons and plenty of alligators. The alligators ranged in age and size from small to one one that Captain Zander estimated to be 60 years old! The process from purchasing places on the tour, taking the bus to Honey Island, and getting on our boat was all smoothly and professionally done. I highly recommend this company, this tour and this captain.
On a side note we took the boat with about 20 people, they offered smaller boats, but we didn’t choose that option. I was glad we made that choice…the smaller boats were unshaded and it was a very sunny day!
Great tour today with the charming and funny Captain Everett! He was very knowledgeable and I was sooo happy to get so many plants and birds identified. We were also super lucky to see a big ole alligator along w a smaller one Sunni g on a log! Our driver, Joy, was also really great and sang a cool version of happy birthday for my sister! All in all, a most excellent adventure!!!
Fantastic Tour. We did the Small boat tour with Captain Everett and it was amazing. He was very knowledgeable and very entertaining. He went out of the way to give us the cruise we were looking for. He made sure we had blankets as it was cool. Despite the fact it was early February he was still able to find a gator and we got to see a good amount of other wildlife.
We had a great swamp tour with captain Will. He is very knowledgeable, funny and personable. Will shared many interesting facts about local flora and fauna and made sure we saw as much wild life as possible. Thank you Will for giving us such a good experience!
We “The Tennessee Girls” had the best time on our two hour swamp tour. We took the VIP small boat tour and it was perfect. Captain Sonny was amazing and made sure to show us everything he could. We saw several alligators, birds, snakes, etc… this is a must do activity when in New Orleans.
What a great experience with Captain Zander! He was knowledgeable about the area, made sure we got to see a lot of things from birds, plant life, raccoons, and of course gators! The boat tour was a great way for city folk to see the bayou and swamp.
I’m normally against tours . But let me tell you , you don’t wanna forgo this ones. We had the pleasure of having Sonny as a swamp tour guide. He has the Knowledge of the bayou and all the creatures and other wildlife who inhabits but most important , it’s his personality. The southern charm was nice that it made the two hours fly by. I would recommend doing the round trip pickup from there you’ll receive a historical look into Louisiana , landmarks and all. My friends and I enjoyed ourselves and it’s most definitely a bang for your buck.
This was our first time in Lousiana! My wife and I really wanted to do a swamp tour. We found Cajun Encounters online and they had a great price point compared to other tours! And man are we happy we chose this tour! For our tour we had Captain Michael and he was an absolute blast to have. Great sense of humour, knowledge and leadership. He took the time to connect with the passengers (my wife and I being from Canada, he really enjoyed making jokes about the heat haha). We felt safe the entire tour! Would recommend these guys over and over again! We got some great shots too!!
Rob was great with history and where and what to see when he booked the tour. The swamp tour was wonderful and had the best boat captain, Jessup, he was informative and made the trip extra special with stories, history and a lot of humor.
We really enjoyed our swamp tour! Our guide, Will took us on a great & informative trip through the swamps. The racoons were adorable. My kids especially loved holding the baby gator at the end of the tour in the gift shop!
We had a wonderful tour, and saw a variety of creatures (alligators, birds, snakes, raccoons, turtles). It was worth it to pay for the smaller boat to have the individual attention and be able to get closer to the animals and birds. Desi was very well informed and a wonderful source of information about the plant and animal life we saw. He answered a broad spectrum of questions and on when he didn’t know an answer, he said so, and told us what he did know about it, which I appreciated.
What an amazing experience! Xander was the absolute best tour guide. He was so energetic & lively. I was lucky enough to see a handful of alligators & he was kind enough to continue turning the boat around so everyone had a chance to view them. He also taught us about the different plants (ouch sawgrass!) & the birds, turtles & George the raccoon. His daughter was gracious enough to create him a book that displays all the wildlife in the area. Such a a proud papa! I really appreciated his character. Absolutely loved the tour. Would recommend 10/10 ❤️
This tour was the best swamp tour I could ever imagine. From the start of the bus ride with our driver Dwayane, to our Boat Capt Scot, this was more then I had hoped for. We saw alligators, a wild boar, raccoons, frogs, turtles, and all kinds of swampy things. Highly recommend and next time I’m I. The area I will do this tour again.
This was not what I expected for the ghost bus tour. That being said it was still fun and really interesting. If your looking to be scared, this is not for you but if you like good ghost stories and history you'll like it. Great tour guide, he was a lot of fun. Can't remember his name but he was great. If you are American horror story: coven fans, you get to take a picture outside of the house gates (Buckner mansion) and get to see the cementary they did spells in.
If you like the spooky vibes, I recommend doing the night tour. Our tour guide Zander was amazing. He made sure that we see as much of the wild life as possible and moved the boat so that each side gets too see the animals up close.
My wife and I visited New Orleans for the first time last week. We had the pleasure of taking Capt. Zander’s tour and I was able to get some of the most incredible pictures I’ve ever taken as a photographer. The tour was informative, exciting, and unique. Captain Zander was eager to answer questions and happy to talk with each one of us before, during, and after the tour. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone looking for an exciting afternoon on the bayou!
Our captain Luca was incredible kept the tour fun and informative. He is such a people person who you can tell is passionate about and loves their job. It was awesome to get out of the city and enjoy the serenity of nature. There weren’t too many gators but that isn’t their fault. The almost 2 hour tour flew by. The next time I come down I am definitely doing this again.
This tour is amazing!!! Our tour guide Michael was so informative and very funny! We got to see so much wildlife …raccoons, MANY gators, birds and so much of the beautiful swamp. The tour is a little over 2 hours, it is definitely worth it! You also get a chance to hold a baby gator!
Enjoyed touring the Honey Swamp on yesterday!! Our tour guide Jessep was the BEST! He was very kind, funny, respectful of the wildlife and knowledgeable of the place that he obviously loves!!! The ladies in the gift shop were the sweetest!!! Clean facility! I highly recommend!! My family and I had a blast!
We enjoyed our visit with Cajun Encounters. This was a great trip, from our NOLA stay.
Emmettt was our boat tour guide, he did an awesome job with keeping the guests well informed and safe. We do like when a tour guide interacts with the guests, and also shares personal experiences too. That made the visit extra comforting and educational for our kiddos. We do recommend a visit, if you can!!
Daniel our driver was great, shared a lot of special stories about New Orleans and specifically about places we drove through on the way to the swamp. He was super nice and funny.
The swamp tour with Captain Everest was very educational and informative with a funny "delivery" ☺️
Cajun Encounters tours was great! Captain Will was engaging, friendly, informative and answered everyones questions. Dwayne our bus driver was funny, friendly and provided very interesting history. He even engaged us in history games which made the ride fun!
Our group had a marvelous tour. Our driver was entertaining and kind on our trip to the swamp. Emicka is a safe driver and delivered us out and back through a thunderstorm. After the weather improve our Caption JD was so informative and I was able to take wonderful pictures and video of the swamp. We say snail eggs, vegetation unique to the swamp and many reptiles and bird. We saw over a dozen alligators, turtles, egrets, and herons. I highly recommend this tour.
My first time in Louisiana and I found Cajun Encounters on Expedia, I booked because of the reviews, and I was not disappointed. FAR from it! Dwayne was our bus driver, he was great. But the real star was our boat guide, Captain Walker. What a great experience! Thorough knowledge of the area, great jokes, he had answers to all of our questions, and plenty of personal anecdotes. I just got here from CA yesterday and this already feels like a high point of our trip! We saw yellow bellied sliders, gators, egrets, nutra rat, other birds that the names escape me, but we saw a little bit of everything. Our boat was covered, online it says some might be uncovered, so bring sunscreen because the sun would’ve been brutal without the cover. Our tour was slated for 10:15 AM, we left on the bus at 10:15, got to the grounds around 11, and disembarked on our boat around 12:15. We were on the boat for around 2 hours. This is about a 5 hour excursion counting bus transportation to and from the French Quarter, boat tour, load and unload etc! I LOVED IT! Highly recommend Cajun Encounters especially with Captain Walker!
My sister and I thoroughly enjoyed our swamp tour!
Our guide Scott D was great and very informative and great at spotting
Gators and other critters! I would definitely recommend
A must see when visiting New Orleans.
Capt. Desi was a great guide. We did the small boat tour and we were able to go in the smaller waterways and saw baby birds and honey bee nests in some of the older trees. Capt. Desi was extremely knowledgeable about conservation and endangered species, pointing out multiple endangered species on our tour. We saw everything we came to see and saw other things we were not expecting. Great experience!
This was my first time visiting NOLA and I am so glad that I took a swamp tour with Cajun Encounters! Captain Zander, who grew up on the same river we toured, is so knowledgable of the wildlife and ecology. Don't be shy about asking him questions! If you plan on chatting with him throughout the tour, try to get on the boat first and sit behind him. Zander's candidness and expertise took the trip to a whole new level. He is a wonderful tour guide and the swamp is absolutely gorgeous. Highly recommend!
Very cool tour. Our guide Desi was friendly, knowledgeable, and very informative. He took time to explain all the wildlife we saw, which included gators, boars, and raccoons. And the vegetation was beautiful. Definitely worth checking out!
We had a great kayak tour in the swamps with our guide Captain Sambo. We saw many alligators in the water and we felt very safe the whole time. Sambo gave us so much interesting information about animals and plants in the bayou, he could answer all of our questions. Even we know now how to cook Gumbo from the plants in the swamps ;-D. It was an entertaining, relaxed time in the bayou with Sambo, we enjoyed it so much. We highly recommend to book it, it was memorable and we will never forget!!
We took the city tour and absolutely loved it! Derek was very informative and made the trip very enjoyable! We also went on the swamp tour and had a blast. We had Sonny as our tour guide and he was super funny and made the ride very entertaining!
We went on the evening swamp tour with Captain Zander. It was a great time! The captain was charming, funny, and very knowledgeable being a local. The river and swamp themselves were gorgeous at night, and when he cut the engine it really was so peaceful just to float down and listen to the wildlife. We did have some fun gator sightings, bullfrogs, and a gorgeous night sky with heat lightning. I would definitely recommend the experience! Remember to bring bug spray on the night tour to maybe save yourself from a few bites. I wouldn't knock a swamp tour of all things for the bugs but just come prepared.
I loved all of it! Swamp tour from Captain Patrick to all the Plantation tours to even the bus ride from René! He was chill and helpful whenever I wasn’t sure I got on the right bus. I want to go again when I come back to New Orleans. I really like the Ghost Tour as well, it kept my attention.
Cajun Swamp Tours was a great experience and our tour guide Desi was very thoughtful and informative as was Steve (our bus driver). The tour communications and signup was easy. Only constructive feedback would be that the timing of things could have been clearer. We did the 10:45 tour and it said we’d be back by 2:45 when we actually arrived closer to 3:30.
I went with my 89 year old mum (who is practically blind) and my 24 year old son. It was one of the coldest days in January but from start to finish we were impressed with the coach driver Larry ‘BamBam’ and his coach. He was telling us interesting facts about the places we passed and should go see. The actual swamp tour was led by Captain Walker whose knowledge was immense and his commentary was entertaining. This really engaged mum and allowed her to get as much out of it as we did.
Excellent tour and well recommended and good value
Jessup as our tour guide on the VIP Swamp Tour was the whole package. Informative, funny, and all around nice guy. Our safety was never a concern and he made our experience memorable and fully enjoyable. He was very knowledgeable about the animal and plant life in the swamp. He pointed out so many things we would have missed had it not been for his keen awareness of the environment. This is a guy who truly loves what he does and it shows. Highly recommend! Will do this again some day. Thank you Captain Jessup and Cajun Encounters! Well done!
Scott was our guide today August 4th. 2022. We had a wonderful time! He is full of knowledge and great personality. He really enjoys his time sharing his bit of the world with others. The scenery and wildlife he shared with us made the time fly! A very enjoyable time had with Cajun Encounters from start to finish
Dewayne our bus driver really was wonderful as well.
Nice tour. We took an evening swamp tour and the whole experience was good and very informative. Though we could not spot many Alligators, except for one with it’s eyes and snout, we saw white and blue Egrets, Raccoons and snakes. The swamp itself was very beautiful in the evening. Overall the guide -‘ Will ‘ provided lots of info with a touch of some humor.
I did the swamp tour through Cajun Encounters and it was excellent. If you’re looking for a fun and family friendly activity, this is a great choice. I’m sure all of the boar captains are great, but if you’re interested in getting the best education on the local ecology and geography, then you have to request to be in Desi’s boat. He’s a local that was also an environmental conservation officer so he really knows his stuff! We saw some small to medium sized alligators, apparently there is a big boy in that area that is sometimes seen. That would have been exciting but remember, these are wild animals. We also so a big fat wild boar, several turtles, a raccoon, and different bird species. Next time I have family or friends in town, I will absolutely be taking them on this tour and requesting Desi’s boat.
I had an amazing time with Cajun Encounters, it started with Dwayne… THEE BEST bus/ tour driver. He kept us entertained the entire way to the swamp, with interesting facts about New Orleans and it’s history and cracked plenty of jokes and kept me laughing. I ended up leaving my bag on the bus on the way back to the hotel and he made it a priority to get my bag back to me. He saved the day! I felt safe the whole way and never questioned his driving. 10/10!
Then Captin Pat, took us on the swamp tour and I had a blast! He was great, kept us entertained and made sure both sides of the boat were able to see the gators and all the other animals and sights! He was very knowledgeable about the swamps and I learned a lot. Super fun, had a great time!
We(myself, husband and MIL) took the City and Cemetery Tour June 1st in the afternoon with Derek. He was personable and engaging, we loved his commentary. The tour gives you a great bit of why the city is set up the way it is and a nice splash of a history lesson with it. Thank you Derek!
Cajun encounters was great. Met all of my expectations! There was a lots of wildlife to see and it was really quite beautiful. The staff is really nice, funny, and knowledgeable. Jesup was our tour guide and I hope he wins the cooler.
Went on the city bus tour with Steve, we was great! We got to see so much that we wouldn’t have seen otherwise. Steve was fun and funny, great history lessons throughout the tour. Highly recommended 5 stars
We had such a great time on our swamp tour. Our driver picked us up exactly where they said they would and he made the 40 min bus ride there so fun. The way he explained the city and the history was so interesting. He was filled with knowledge and humor, which made for a fun ride
When we got to the swamp, everything was so organized! After checking in we were promptly led to our boat. Our driver, John K was the best. He took us out into the bayou and got us to see all
The cool critters and answered all the questions and told the funniest stories. I highly recommend this trip!
I'm so glad I picked this tour over the others I looked into! Our guide, Captain Dustin was kind, funny and very knowledgeable. I loved his voice. He also did a great job steering the boat so that both sides could get the good views of the gators, birds, racoons and everything. We went in January and didn't expect to see many gators because of the cold, but we took the noon tour and they were coming out to catch some sun, it was perfect timing. The swamp part of the tour was awesome, it looked like the Princess and the Frog, and there's a tree Capt Dustin pointed out which apparently was used as inspiration for Mama Odie's house. So cool. I also liked that this tour doesn't have baby gators for you to hold. Wild animals shouldn't be handled by a bunch of people all day, imo. Also, the guides feed the gators protein pellets instead of marshmallows, which I saw other tours do, and which are not a healthy treat for the gators. All in all, we had a wonderful time. I was wary about the swamp Tour because I'm afraid of open water but it turned out to be my favorite part of our trip to NOLA.
We had such a good tour with our guide Will. Saw alligators, really cute raccoons and some good snakes. Will was super knowledgeable and the tour was fantastic. The bus journey from downtown New Orleans was also really interesting with great commentary from Steve.
We had the best time on our Swamp Tour with Captain Wade! I learned so much about the local wildlife and Captain Wade made sure we got to see as much as possible.
Our bus driver was Renee and what a treat he was! He shared some great history on the way to the swamp and was so friendly. Overall, great experience from pick up to drop off. Highly recommend!
Was not expecting to see so much wildlife, especially the number of alligators and other surprises that we were blessed to see. Captain Barry was very knowledgeable and easy to work with and led a wonderful experience for the whole family. Highly recommend.
We had such a great time on the swamp tour! Captain Jessep was phenomenal. He was informative, funny, and great at interacting with our group and answering all our questions. The dock was clean and all the staff were friendly.
Oh and if Derek is your driver to and from, follow his food recommendations.
Eddie was the best tour captain! Personable, knowledgeable and also very funny. We saw an alligator (40 degree weather - most are hibernating), nutria, and raccoons. He also provided a lot of information about plants and regional history.
Captain Zander was awesome. He was engaging and spoke with the knowledge of someone who lives on the river. He handled the boat with skill. I've taken many boat tours in many far away places and his ability to maneuver the boat for the best possible photo was highly impressive. I'm US Navy retired, and as a boat captain Zander was top notch. Thanks Cpt Zander for a great tour.
Our swamp tour guide was Zander, and it was an amazing experience! Getting to be close up with the wildlife was awesome, and Zander had a lot of insider knowledge on the swamp. We even got to see King Lola (the biggest gator in the area) and a friendly hog named Kevin. Cajun Encounters is super responsible to the environment, going out of their way to protect the alligators in their swamp. My family and I had such a lovely time!
We did the swamp tour Christmas week and was one of our favorite parts of our New Orleans trip.
On the way to the swamp our bus driver Derek gave the whole bus a short history lesson about everything going on in the city and surrounding areas - fun and informational. Quite enjoyed the ride.
As for the swamp tour itself - its winter and no gators, but still worth seeing. 3 of the boats were full, so it was just the 2 of us and Jeesup - almost a VIP experience. Great time all around!
This swamp tour is amazing especially when your Captain is Zander. We saw several families of raccoons, a wild pig, and of course gators. If you're on the fence about where to go, this is it. The bus ride to and from our hotel was very comfortable as well.
First time visiting 'NOLA'. My husband and I decided to do a city tour to get a lay of the land. This tour was
AMAZING!!! We thoroughly enjoyed Derrick (Sorry if I misspelled the name, I’m not good remembering names) as our tour guide. He was knowledgeable and kept our group engaged, informed, and entertained
throughout the tour. We saw a good chunk of the city of New Orleans from an air conditioned bus and
got out and toured a cemetery and even got
to stop at Cafe Du Monde for beignets and
coffee. All in all, I highly recommend this tour
if you are visiting New Orleans and/or just
want to learn more about it. Hopefully you will get Derrick as your your guide.
Karen was a delight! She drove us to the plantations and provided us facts on the drive out and assured every group knew where they were headed and what time to be back. Very kind, patient and light humor. You can tell she's passionate and enjoys her work.
Didn’t get to see alligators given the rainy weather, but I couldn’t care less. Captain Sam makes this a must take tour. He’s the best guide I’ve ever listened to. Extremely knowledgeable and with the precise timing of a seasoned stand-up comedian. The swamp is beautiful, as well as the raccoons we saw, but the stories this dude Captain Sam tells are alone worth the admission price.
The airboat tour was one of the best things I did during my trip to NOLA!! Worth every penny we spent, which wasn't even much ($64 each) We paid extra for pick up and it was well worth it since it ended up being quite a bit of a bus ride (45 min). The bus was probably more worth it than driving yourself or getting an uber/lyft. It was clean, more comfy than typical buses, had AC & charger ports. The driver Dawonda was very friendly and shared some info along the way to keep us entertained. Once we arrived, everything was easy to find. Patrick our Airboat tour guide was fun and witty! He did his best to keep us entertained and shared lots of information of the wildlife and swamp areas. It was about a 2 - 2.5 ride. Which is wonderful for the price you pay. Boat was fun too! Seen Blue Heron, turtles, alligators and raccoons close up. The swamps were beautiful and peaceful. Lastly, Zander at the shop was welcoming and let us hold the baby gator. Overall, wonderful experience and highly recommend this excursion to anyone!!
My partner, my 1 year old and I did the swamp tours with Evert and it was super fun. My child loved seeing the gators and the racoons. It was informative and fantastic. Highly recommend doing this, we lived being on the water and learning all about the swamp and everything in it. Our guide was funny and knowledgeable about everything.
We also did the bus tour with Karen this is a must due when you first get to the city just so you have a better understanding of how the city is laid out and what places to go. The bus with super comfy and was amazing.
Everyone was super helpful, informative and kind from booking to going on the actual tours. We recommend them fully!
Definitely a great experience. We had Xander for our captain and he was awesome.
He made sure to keep us entertained and interested the whole trip.
Would definitely recommend.
Absolutely amazing experience! The bus was on time and our tour guide Steve was funny. We did both, Laura and Oak tour; Jesse at the Laura plantation took us back in time and was very informative.
At the Oak our tour guide Dave was very helpful and friendly. You will not be disappointed 💞
Went on the swamp tour today. It was amazing, I definitely recommend it.
Our driver Emicka made the drive great. She was funny and informative 🤣
And our tour guide Emmett was awesome. I'm still not 100% sure everything was factual, but he could have done nothing but lie and I'd have believed him and enjoyed it.
If nothing else, I'll remember the screaming chickens. Kudos to both Emicka and Emmett
Captain Mike was fantastic, we had a great time and saw so much. Shuttle service made this super easy for us to get to - shout out Dwayne for making our ride informative and fun. 10/10 would recommend!
My family and I came from Austin, TX and we truly enjoyed every minute of this swamp tour. From the gift shop to the clean toilets to the tour itself, it was so organized and professionally done! We also LOVED our tour guide, Wil Daniels. He was knowledgeable, funny and a great boat captain! Thanks Cajun Encounter!
Nice facility, they have it down so all is a smooth experience. Boats were nice, capt Walker was great. Saw a bunch of gators, even a 10’ long one. Walker was very interactive, had great jokes and kept things interesting the entire time. Just the boat ride was nice, I’d do it again!
Absolutely amazing experience! Driver Steve picked everyone up and got us safely to and from the swamp, while sharing jokes and bits of history about NOLA. Our tour guide, captian Pat, was equally entertaining and so knowledgeable about the swamp and animals living in it. 11/10 would go back for more!
Went for a swamp tour with family & friends. Loved everything about it. Our guide Captain Barry was fun and knowledgeable. Most of all enjoyed cruising the river in the rain! Would definitely recommend this tour.
This was a fantastic tour, and if you happen to get captain Barry, I feel you may have lucked out. He was extremely knowledgeable as he’s lived on the bayou his entire life, and could tell his knowledge came from experience, not a book. It felt like a tour from a true local! Couldn’t have asked for more.
Captain Will gave us a great tour - it was pretty cool out so we didn’t expect to see many gators. We ended up finding one baby gator and lots of snakes 😂 but had a great time learning about the honey island swamp and Pearl river all the same! …
We loved our Cajun Encounter! Saw lots of wildlife and learned a lot about the swamp! Capt Barry a local native was hilarious and very knowledgeable! He answered all our questions:) Really enjoyed his tour! Give ‘‘em the cooler!
I did a swamp tour with Captain Zander. He was an awesome guide, and he was especially knowledgeable about the area because he lives and grew up there. He really wanted to make sure we had a nice experience. The tour lasted a little over one hour 45 minutes, which I feel was a good amount of time. I like that the boats are covered.
First time doing a swamp tour, absolutely recommend this experience to everyone! We had such fun on the boat with Captain Emmett. His knowledge and stories made the trip very enjoyable. We laughed the whole trip!
This tour was amazing! We saw plenty of wildlife and captain Scott shared a ton of Swamp and New Orleans history! It’s definitely worth every penny! Pick up, check in a drop off was super easy and convenient! For sure going again!
We had the best swamp tour with Captain Wade today. He was amazing at explaining everything about the swamp and animals and was so very friendly. We saw many alligators (some huge ones!), raccoons, birds, turtles, snakes, spiders, irises....
The entire experience was seamless and well worth the visit. Captain Wade was the BEST!! Thank you!
Took a swamp tour with Captain Frank and had a great experience. Saw tons of gators and learned a lot from the tour. The swamp was beautiful, highly recommend this trip if you’re visiting the city.
Great , great , great place! This is a must do anytime you're in New Orleans. Our boat captain Emmitt was great! Very informative! Made it fun and absolutely felt safe. Our bus driver forgot his name that pick us up ( bus #1) made the trip well worth it. Glad we decided to go with the pick up options. He also gave us some very good information about the different areas and he was very nice and helpful!!! I must say this was by far my best time here! Will definitely be back!!!!!!
It was an amazing experience! My family and I love it! And we loved our swamp tour captain! Captain John Katz (crooked fingers 😆) thank you again John! We will visit again soon and until then try not to lose any fingers! …
We took our tour on one of the coldest days New Orleans had seen this winter. Due to this we didn't get to see any reptiles. But our captain Will made the best of the tour. Very informative and upbeat. Great job!
We had the best time with Cajun Encounters. We had no idea we’d learn so much on the bus ride there, but we did! Our driver was so fun and gave us so much history about the city on our ride out.
On the water, Captain Walker was awesome! So knowledgeable and fun. We got to see all the most beautiful spots on the swamp and learn about the wildlife and plant life. Our captain was able to point out everything we wanted to see, (and made sure we got all the best pictures) answer any question we had, and made us laugh the whole time. Could not recommend this experience more!
Had a great time, despite no alligator sightings, totally worth it. Bus driver Duane was fun and informative. Captain JD was great! Highly recommend the VIP tour on the smaller boat.
Use this company and request Captain Zander! He made the tour a true swampy adventure! His engaging personality and humor combined with his authentic roots can’t be topped. I mean the dude lives right there on the river. Find the wildlife in the photos below. We saw a TON!
Really enjoyed our time going out on a swamp tour with Jessel. His awesome makes it super entertaining and is able to spot all kinds of wildlife. The transportation is super convenient and the bus is super comfy. Loved coming out today with them.
We had a small intimate ride with Captain Jessep!! He Couldn’t have been more knowledgeable, more interesting, more intriguing, or more personable!! A captain with a good eye, good energy, and alot of good information. All around good experience! The trip was peaceful, majestic, and exciting! captain jessep and the tour will be a high point of my trip to NOLA!! Don’t miss it and spring for the more personal experience, so well worth !
We booked the Walking Ghost Tour with cajun encounters bc they had a great deal and love ghost stories. Our tour guide was Mikko, he was very entertaining and amusing. He showed us around the French Quarter and his stories gave me chills! He definitely loves what he does and makes it enjoyable for the whole group. At the end of the tour Mikko gave us recommendations on where to eat and listen to live music. I would defined recommend book your tours with Cajun Encounters because their staff will not disappoint.
Our tour started with pick up from the French Quarter, and our bus driver Emicka(sp?), was hilarious! She was on time and courteous, gave us some background information on various things we drove by, and got everyone pumped up for the boat tour.
It was a very easy check in process and you get to the tour site with more than enough time to use the restroom, check in and browse the gift shop.
Our boat captain was Desi, and he was wonderful. Prior to being a tour captain, Desi was a conservation officer. I thought it was really neat to go on the tour with someone who has so many years of on the ground experience in the bayou. We saw tons of wild life: alligators, a few families of raccoons, egrets, blue herons, and boars to name a few. Desi was really great about making sure everyone saw the various animals, as well as giving us some background on type of plants as well. He also gave us an insight into those who live in the bayou, with first hand experience.
Would absolutely 5/5 recommend for your trip to the area!
Daniel started us off right with a great bus tour on the way to the swamp. Funny, interesting, and still informative about the areas, bridges, cemeteries, and roads we we traversed. Also, some great celebrity stories that really let us know: we were at the best swamp tour company in town!
Then the pièce de résistance: the swamp tour. Xander was not only an excellent boat captain (not a ship!) while we were flying through that river to cool off, but he also had a great eye for the wildlife. Many of his friends came to visit: little raccoons, barred owl, blue heron, great egret, and gators galore. He pointed out the bubble gum snail eggs, elephant ears, lillies, and a variety of trees - explaining the invasives and stories behind flora and fauna. Though he was disappointed about his wild hog buddy (Kevin Bacon) being out on maternity leave - we had an excellent time and saw plenty!
Thanks y'all for being a highlight to our trip to NOLA.
Captain Zander was the best! He was very knowledgeable. He was entertaining, educational and funny. He maneuvered the swamp boat into very narrow passages and we were able to see plenty of gators. Recommended for any age.
Loved this tour! We caught a ride with Emika who was a superb bus driver. Very friendly and made the ride very fun. Once we got there Xander took us into the swamp and knew a lot about the plant and animal life. He was a great boat driver and guide. Overall great experience and would recommend booking this tour!
Captain Zander was AMAZING. He really took his time and showed us the wild life and the alligators in the area. He was also entertaining!! Would definitely book him again!!
Our Tour was incredible. Our Guide Desi was so kind and friendly. Knowledge and patient. We saw sooo much. Was allowed to take photos and even backed up to get plenty of gator shots. First time I saw natural Lotus flowers a very sacred flower 🌼.
Our Bus driver Duyane "The Rock" was the Best driver I've had and we travel a lot. Just Love his commentary!
Satisfied and happy...
Flaviur & Desi
Fantastic experience! We had an amazing time, from our pickup by Dwayne (the rock) who was our tour guide through the city and out to the tour. Our boat captain was captain Zander and he has lived and worked on this river his whole life, and it showed! He had stories and shared his experiences with us throughout the tour, it really made the whole experience having someone who knew the river. Would recommend to anyone who wants a real experience in the Louisiana swamps!
Went on the swamp tour yesterday with captain Zander as our guide. He was very knowledgeable and entertaining! He knew the swamp and the people who live there. It was a great tour and I highly recommend it!
Fun day exploring the river and swamp with Zander, our guide at Cajun Encounters. He was incredible. Zander was very knowledgeable about the river, swamp, gators, birds, plants, trees, raccoons, the damage left by Katrina and Ida, the people who lived on the river, etc. Why did he know so much...he lived on the river and had tales of his family and growing up there. He was very interesting. He was a great guide.
Our bus driver, Steve, was also informative and funny. The too, made it a wonderful experience.
If I had one complain, Zander recommended Coterie. My family went on Zander's and another couple’s recommendation and had a horrible evening. It’s obvious the restaurant is connected to Cajun Encounters. The manager on duty was everything that defines poor management and customer service. See my review on Coterie restaurant here and on YELP. I honestly cannot blame Zander. He was probably doing what he was instructed.
Our bus driver Dwayne and Captain Ally (pardon if I misspelled his name) were magnificent! Captain Ally told was very informative and answered all of our questions with ease. High five to Dwayne and Captain Ally!! This tour is a must!
Everything with this trip was a good. From providing transportation to and from, amazing tour guides with a very good sense of humor and knowledgeable of what they do. I definitely enjoyed my trip only bad side which wasn’t fault of the company was the weather for my tour wasn’t favorable because it was cold so we didn’t get to see a lotta Alligators only 2 and bunch of Turtles and one Racoon lol. And oh yeah the different typa birds lol.
What a fun and entertaining experience! I thought this just be a slow boat ride but was so much more!
Derrick was our driver and made the 40 min drive New Orleans a breeze. He gave a wondering history of things along the way which was so interesting. I’ve been to Nola several times and learned so many new things from him.
Eddie was our boat guide and made us laugh the entire time. He cracked so many jokes and we loved the running jokes of the wild pigs/hogs out there, aka Kevin…Kevin Bacon….Peppa Pig….Chris-p Bacon. Ahhh, this was such a blast. We got to really get up close and personal with the alligators, raccoons, turtles, and it was an experience. He shared so many things and made me feel like I was in an episode of Swamp People!
Do this tour! You won’t be disappointed!!
Had a lot of fun!!!! Patt was the captain of our tour boat. He was amazing explaining everything to us about the flora and fauna of the swamps. Saw tons of aligators, a bunch of raccoons, pigs, turtles, birds. Great experience, must try if you are in New Orleans!!!
Captain Walker kept us entertained, educated and safe! He was so informative, enjoyed his job and what he does. He has respect for the eco system and that was apparent in his tour. I'd highly recommend that you ask for Captain Walker.
The transportation from Dan was efficient on time, and provided a very interesting tour on the way to the swamp.
We did the nighttime swamp tour with Captain Zander who was incredibly knowledgeable, funny, engaging and interesting. He explained so much about the local area, animals and history. He also got us as close as possible to the alligators, ensured everyone had the opportunity to take photos and ask questions, which he answered easily. Have also booked a daytime tour, and will definitely be requesting Captain Zander again! Could not fault any part of the experience.
Emmett was wonderful:). He literally knew everything. We could have just sat around and talked to him all day. He was so funny too. He found all the wildlife for us to experience and had historical stories to tie to the tour too. I hope his wife and sister are still doing well;).
Will gave us a great tour today! We saw lots of wildlife and shared some awesome facts about the swamp. The boat is covered, so we weren't hot. Highly recommended tour!
We took the 1:15 tour with Zander and had an amazing time. The tour was around 2 hrs long but it was super informative and enjoyable. We saw different kinds of animals besides the crocodiles. I totally recommend Canjun Encounters for your next tour.
Just did the Honey Island Swamp Tour this morning. It was AWESOME! Our guide, Jessep, was great - very funny and informative, great about making sure we saw everything there was to see, answered everybody’s questions, and stayed safe. We got to see some gators, raccoons, eagles, herons, egrets, and nutria. I’ll definitely be back when it’s a little warmer and again to try the sunset tour.
Our trip with Captain Wade was tremendous. He worked very hard to show us the animals of the swamp. We saw at least 15 alligators right next to our boat. He also was very knowledgeable about the fauna and history of the area. I would recommend this trip for anyone who wants to get a great swamp encounter.
We took the swamps tour with Captain Zander in the small boat and it was great. He grew up in the area and knows a lot of small details on the flora, fauna and history of the swamps. We got to see many alligators, birds, turtles and heard several kinds of frogs. We also learnt how people live in the area.
Our driver for the tour, Daniel, was also very nice and pointed out many interesting things along the route.
I highly recommend the tour.
Captain Pat was great! We were visiting out of state and the boat tour was fabulous. We saw gators, family of racoons, many many turtles and a snake.
Visited in February 2023 and absolutely loved our tour with Captain Sam! Great facilities, well organized, fun gift shop and awesome staff that helped us easily book same day within a few hours of the tour. The tour itself was really fun with a fun boat ride, and getting to see some really cool animals along the way (two baby alligators, turtles, raccoons, all kinds of birds) but we also learned so much from Captain Sam. He was funny, engaging and knew so much about the flora and fauna. The highlight for me was how beautiful and peaceful the swamp was, it’s an environment I’m not as familiar with and I was in awe with how pretty it was. Also I loved the cute and interactive racoons! Just a heads up that in the winter when it’s colder you are less likely to see alligators so if you are going for alligators keep that in mind. Captain Sam said the summer when it’s warm is when all the animals come out so that’s a great time to visit. Also afterwards in the shop if interested you had the chance to hold a baby alligator and a corn snake and it was very cool!
We had such a fun experience with our guide Xander today! We loved his passion for the swamp and all the animals and plants within it. Couldn’t have asked for a better guide with all of his extensive knowledge and stories. Highly recommend!
Our shuttle driver Fran and Captain Michael we’re both so knowledgeable, fun and charming. I learned so much about the city of New Orleans on the way out to the swamp and has an incredible experience while there! The entire staff was amazing, thank you all! ❤️
The best experience on the swamp tour today! Zander was our captain and I don’t think anybody would’ve been able to do a better job than someone raised in the area! So much passion and enthusiasm sharing stories of those who live there, what life is like, all while showing us the crazy wildlife in the area. Couldn’t recommend him more or the company! Dwayne was our driver and he was also so welcoming and full of life, a man who could put a smile on anyones face!
Capt. Everett was a an amazing tour guide. He explained things about the swamp and the difference to a marsh. Also kept the tour entertaining with his jokes and knowledge. A must do experience!
Such a fun experience! Wil was our guide, and he brought a ton of energy and background knowledge to the tour. He had an answer for any question we threw at him. We saw so many alligators and cute swamp raccoons. Plus, turtles, egrets, and many more birds. Learned a lot about the area and had a great time. Thanks Wil!
Excited trip with Captain Desi. He is very knowledgeable! The trip had lots of fun! Also thanks to our bus driver (a gentlemen with a hat which I forgot his name) tells a lot of stories during the trip.
Booked online and met up at the designated pick up spot. Our driver Emika was great and informative. Very organized company. On your way back you can get off at any of the drop odd points to continue wandering around. If I don’t get a car next time I visit I will definitely book this company again
Derek was our tour guide for the New Orleans city bus tour and he was amazing! Very informative and fun. His presentation, jokes and steady voice made for a great tour. The stop at 73 Distillery was a nice bonus as well!! Highly recommended to anyone who come to NOLA….we can’t wait for our swamp tour in the next couple of days and are considering the ghost bye tour too!!!
We booked a walking tour and swamp tour and both were amazing. The swamp tour was super well organized to get there and back and the guide was awesome. You’ll see lots on your way, and while out on the water! Walking tour was also very informative, got caught out in the rain but our guide made it work well.
Highly recommend booking with them!
Cajun Encounters Swamp Tour was absolutely amazing! It went far beyond what we hoped it would be when we booked. Our boat Captain, Aily, was the BEST. He was suuuper knowledgeable, funny, and truly cared that we enjoyed ourselves and had a good time. We saw gators right off the jump; along with all of Aily’s raccoon friends. We got up close and personal with the animals and saw tons of egrets, herrings, and much more. I couldn’t recommend this tour and our captain Aily anymore. Trust me you want HIM when you go! The bus ride is also great; the driver (Steve) gave a great history of New Orleans on the way there, and that was super unexpected but also awesome. If I could give 100 stars I would! DO THIS TOUR!
Wasn't sure what to expect. Cajun Encounters was well organized and professional. Our guide Desi had the perfect background for giving swamp tours, he was previously a conservation officer - very knowledgeable. Plus he found a pretty big snapping turtle to show us. I think he enjoys his job. Would recommend the tour.
Awesome swamp tour, saw so much wildlife despite the downpour. Captain Pat was funny and drivers Derek and Dwayne both great. Highly recommend this tour company very well run.
Captain Everett was amazing! Lively tour guide with great stories to keep you amused the entire time! Luckily, we got the opportunity to see the cutest raccoons and fierce gators. Highly recommend for an experience that will give you memories forever!
Loved the is your ! It’s my second time taking it . Our driver Emicka was amazing it was such a foggy day it was tough to see the roads but she she drove us safely to our destination plus she kept us entertained the whole ride there and gave interesting facts I wasn’t aware of . Our captain Scott was so knowledgable, friendly , entertaining . He made sure we got our pictures and positioned the boat closer so we could get the perfect camera shot . He’s the sweetest ! We spotted a lot of different animals on this tour
10/10 would recommend !
Great tour! We saw so many gators, wild pigs, raccoons, gorgeous birds, a snake, nutri rats, and turtles! Our guide, Jessup, was awesome and knowledgeable. He made sure everyone got great views and close encounters. He answered all our questions and knew just where to go to!
Truly wonderful experience! Dwayne was our bus driver and he was very educated! He had a great knowledge of New Orleans and hyped us up for our tour during the bus trip. Our captain was Zander and he was very captivating. The boat ride was fun and he pointed out invasive species, animals, and described what it was like living out in the swamp from a firsthand experience. My family had a great time and the bus ride back was quick and peaceful.
My wife and I took the swamp tour with pickup on Canal Street. The entire process was so smooth. Our driver, Dwayane Brown, was really entertaining and informative - he's great.
The tour itself is so cool. I thought we'd be lucky to see one gator, but there were so many, plus turtles, birds and racoons.
Tour was fantastic from start to finish. Derrick was our bus driver he was so nice and very informative. Everyone working with Cajun encounters was amazing our boat captain PAT was very awesome I 10000% recommend this tour.
Captain Jessup was a fantastic tour guide! It was a chilly day but the boat was comfortable and blankets were provided. We had a great time and enjoyed seeing some of the local wildlife!
Our bus driver, LaJuana, was friendly and shared a lot about the area and local places to visit.
I was already looking forward to this immensely, and Captain Sambo made it as amazing as I’d hope it would be. Informative but entertaining. You learn a lot about the swamp life, get up close to some furry and feathered friends, making the two hours just fly by. Absolute must do if you’re visiting the area!
Scott D was the bomb diggity!! He was so knowledgeable about the swamp and the animals in it. He was patient and excited to show us stuff and have a good time without trying to hard. He was a truly nice and great tour guide.
Captain Zanders gave us an amazing VIP tour of the swamp. Got to see various animals and plays, he told us about them and some historical facts. Over all it was a great experience.
The best part of my New Orleans vacation is the alligator swamp tour. It is beautiful. The nature in LA is beautiful. These alligators are beautiful. It's nice to be there experience it. Cajun tour is wonderful. I love the boat ride and it was really fun. I want to do it again.
Ketchup was a great tour guide. I’ve shown at least 10 people photos of the swamp raccoons so clearly it was a very successful and fun trip. Also the alligators were cool too
Our group had an amazing time! It was the perfect escape after a trip to the city. Wil was an amazing tour guide and provided great information and some witty jokes. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for two hours of beautiful scenery and good energy!
The tour was informative and enjoyable! Rene, our Bus Driver and Captain Todd were great! We saw a lot of animals and the weather wasn’t humid, a must if you visit New Orleans!
From our bus driver Dwayne The Rock to our tour boat captain Sonny - we had the absolute best time on our swamp tour. We saw lots of gators, raccoons, egrets, and water iris. Great time. Highly recommend!
We just enjoyed a boat tour for the third time! Our captain today was Jessop and he was wonderful. Despite planning ahead, a full nap, and plenty of snacks our normally SUPER CHILL toddler decided today was a great day for a demon child melt down. He screamed and cried for the first 15 minutes of our tour and intermittently afterward. My husband and I were apologizing profusely in between BEGGING Jesus to make the kid stop. Jessop was calm, relaxed, and kind- as were the other people on the boat. I really appreciated the kind understanding they showed us. Eventually kiddo did calm down and we were able to enjoy Jessop's information, jokes, and personal stories from all his time spent on the river. Thanks very much for another fun day, despite the VERY rough beginning.
We had an amazing tour on the small boat with Captain Pat. Saw alligators, turtles, egrets, and raccoons along with the spectacular swamp scenery. Captain Pat also added a lot of local knowledge and info on the swamp and the ecology of the area. A must do on a trip to Louisiana!
Yesterday we took the NOLA City Tour & it was great! Derek was fun & full of information! He took us all over and hit the major parts of the city: Cemetery, French Quarters, Garden District, etc. I would highly recommend as you get a lot in during a short amount of time!
This was an amazing experience! We went June 2022 and did the night time swamp tour.
You can do it with or without the transport picking you up. Ours picked us up at the hotel Homewood Suites French Quarter (what was close to our hotel, as we were staying the in FQ).
The ride was about 45 minutes to the venue. The tour guide driving the bus (Dan) was extremely knowledgeable about New Orleans in general, and funny to boot! The information he shared was extremely interesting.
After we got there, the boat driver, Zander, also was wonderful! Very funny and clearly native to the swamp area, he told us all about the animals and insects Of the area. He even fed the alligators Milk Bone dog biscuits (😂) because they apparently love them. He was also very keen about us following the rules to keep us safe, but in a polite way. Very funny, and told us stories about his experiences living his whole life in this area. He even caught a frog!!
My favorite quote from him: “Is that a frog?! I’ll catch it! But if it’s an alligator ima leave that there.”
Only negative: The May Flies got BAD when the sun went down. But what else can you expect on a swamp?
Great tour! We had a vip small boat tour with Luca. He was amazing and full of details and facts. We got to see more wild life up close. Would highly recommend for your New Orleans visit
Theeee best tour guide! Very knowledgeable! Great experience with Captain Christian. The youngest captain but the most handsome and funniest. P.S. to Christian- the u.s. virgin islands water is cleaner and snapper is better lmao
Worth the experience to go around a swap . Will our guide did a great job in keeping us entertained and at the same time explaining about the swamp and vegetation around .
Definitely recommend the swamp tour to anyone visiting to New Orleans with family .
We had such a nice experience with Cajun Encounters. From the comically large bus that picked us up downtown, to Steve entertaining us during our drive up, to Emmett, our captain, getting us some great critter sightings. The whole experience from beginning to end was fun and a really great way to spend a day. Thanks everyone!
Great driver and boat driver was amazing! We drove with Daniel and rode with David. We learned a lot from the the boat ride of the indigenous plants and invasive plants. Just overall great experience!!
went last weekend on a trip with my sister and friends for her bachelorette and it was so fun! Sonny our guide was great- he was friendly, funny, patient, informative, and we felt totally comfortable with him even when he was teasing us with a giant spider and by telling us he’s seen alligators jump into the boat before!! Haha. It was pouring rain but he got us around safely and it was still worth it- we saw 10 gators!! Thanks again Sonny truly was an experience of a lifetime and I can’t wait to go back!
Bus Driver Dewayne has one of the greatest personalities ever and defines the City of New Orleans. He was very knowledgeable about old New Orleans and New New Orleans. Funny Guy for sure. Zander was our Captain and he is a true man of the swamp. He knew it like the back of his …. He showed us several large gators, turtles, racoons and cranes. Very informative and entertaining. Cajun Encounters much like the City of New Orleans can only be described by one word AUTHENTIC!
This tour was a great and feasible priced adventure. We opted to include transportation and our driver DeWayne was very knowledgeable, fun, and prompt he was a lot fun and he He gave us a lot of history. Also our boat tour guide Jesse was dope, you could tell he grew up in the swamps and was very comfortable. He showed is a couple gators, snakes, waiting birds, rats, amd moss and flowers. It was cooler so we only saw 2 gators and some other wildlife. The gift shop had some cool gifts and traditions to purchase at great prices. Overall 10 /10 def recommend
We loved our tour! It was the perfect amount of time. Zander was filled with both knowledge and humor! We will be back!l, and you should go!
Desi was the best capt! He is very knowledgeable in wildlife and was full of great information. We seen more wildlife than I expected thanks to his eye for catching things! The swamp is beautiful and the tour experience was very organized.
Between our driver Dwayne and boat captain Zander had an amazing swamp tour. Dwayne is a masterful driver and comedian. Zander invited us home, literally--gliding past his home on the river made the connection between the human and animal inhabitants of this picturesque watery enclave unforgettable. Thank you Cajun Encounters.
Due to cold weather we unfortunately didn’t get to see any alligators. Our tour guide, Will was entertaining and told us a lot about the wildlife and history of the area. I’d give it 5 starts had we seen the gator. Only do this tour if there is sunshine.
Captain Pat did an excellent job with his stories during the tour. It was really fun. Derrick our driver to the tour customer service and superb. The drive did not seem long at all due to him telling us stories. I advise to take this tour if you are visiting the area. Ask for Pat as your tour guide and Derrick as your driver.
We had a great small boat tour with Captain Desi. The small boat allowed us to access many areas throughout the swamp. We saw lots of wildlife - many alligators, a wild boar, raccoons, turtles, and several types of birds. Captain Desi was very knowledgable about the history, wildlife, and ecosystem of the swamp. I would highly recommend this tour!
Today we took a swamp tour, and where I've never bothered to rate or review an activity or experience our afternoon with Zander Thomas was so exceptional that I felt compelled to comment. He made, what could have been a pleasant boat ride come alive with great insights and a narrative that gave a different understanding to the region.
Captain Barry was excellent! He went out of his way to show us all the animals of the swamp. His knowledge of the swamp was fantastic. He is a great asset to your swamp tour.
Our guide Desi was very knowledgeable. Even though it was cold and we didn't see much wildlife, he told us all about the surrounding area. Our driver Rene was great too!
Really great tour company that picks you up in the French Quarter and takes you out to a gorgeous swamp in Slidell. Our driver Dwayane was funny and helpful. Our captain John R was incredibly knowledgeable and made sure that we got to see as many swamp creatures as possible. Word to the wise, if you tip your captain and ask nicely, they may let you hold a baby gator 🐊
Captain Zander was fantastic! He was hilarious and so knowledgeable about the history of the swamp and the local plants and animals. My photos don't it justice (my partner took better ones on his camera) but we got real close to gators, raccoons, wild hogs and more! Couldn't have asked for a better tour. Thank you from Canada!
Eddy was a great tour guide !! He was funny but gave us lots of knowledge of the surrounding areas! We saw many things including gators, baby gators racoons and much more. My daughter was excited to see the Princess and the frog tree!! This is a must do when you visit New Orleans!! A+++++
Had an AB SO LUTE BLAST!! Captain Todd was very knowledgeable with a great sense of humor! We got to see wild pigs, alligators, larkin, blue herrians, apple snails and Raccoons that got CLOSE! lol please spell check me but overall great experience I even held an alligator! I will do this again no problem!
Highly recommend this tour, we did the small boat tour, was more personal and our guide Desi was amazing. He made sure we had a great time and really viewed all the swap has to offer. He was very knowledgeable on the history of the swamp as well. Thank you Desi for an amazing experience as we really enjoyed our tour.
Desi was a great guide! Very knowledgeable and took us to the good spots to find the bigger gators! The transport was a huge tour bus with air conditioning! The boat was perfect for our first time visit, covered boat and still some speed to catch the breeze!
Our experience with Cajun Encounters was stellar! Our driver, Emicka, was super knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. Our captain, Scott, made the tour so memorable. He has endless knowledge of the swamp and everything that lives in it. The cold weather limited the wildlife we saw, but Scott made it special nonetheless. Will recommend this to anyone who’s visiting NOLA!
My friend and I booked a small boat swamp tour with Cajun encounters and it was absolutely amazing. Our captain, Wade, was so sweet and knowledgeable. He made sure we had a wonderful experience, learned a lot about the wildlife, plants, and ecosystem of the area. Would highly recommend!
The tour was awesome! Great experience and fun time for everyone. Our tour guide Captain Barry was outstanding! Super knowledgeable and really went out of his way to make sure everyone got something out of the tour! Highly recommended
It was an amazing experience. I have done one in Miami before this but the experience was completely different and our guide (Emmet) was super fun and made the tour a whole lot more fun.
A MUST DO!!!
This tour was amazing!!! 2 hours and they make sure you see as much as you can! But let’s talk about Eddie!!!!!!!!! He was the BEST tour guide!!! Down to earth and very educated about everything. He truly made the tour an unforgettable experience for all! Much love, Jenna and April from Pittsburgh!!
Went on an Alligator Swamp Tour with Captain Sonny and it was amazing. Very informative and showed us a great time. He was funny and made the trip awesome. Would definitely do it again.
Cajun Encounters was the best tour we took on our New Orleans trip! We had Captain Wade- very very informative and definitely made the whole trip interesting and fun!
We had THE BEST time with Captain Zander on our swamp tour. We saw all kinds of wildlife and he made sure we got the most for our money. He was knowledgeable, funny, and made our tour a blast. Would definitely recommend and definitely go again!
CAPTAIN SAM IS THE MAN! For the best swamp tour experience hook up with him on a 6-8 person tour ("VIP") in the boats you see in the ad pics. These boats go where the bigger ones dont so it is a much quieter, personal, and peaceful. It also has the same size engine of the larger boats so when you get on the river it kicks!. ( See vids in review.) Sambo is a good ol' bayou boy who grew up fishing, hunting in the environ he loves and cares about so much. He is also a survivalist so he knows the flora, fauna, critters from first hand experience beyond the text book. He is also a kick in the pants! Everyone in our boat had a blast. I'd travel back from Seattle to do it again and look into a kayak experience with him too! One of the best days on our 3 month cross country rv trip.
We got the small tour boat with Sonny, and it was excellent. We saw all sorts of wildlife and different parts of the area. Sonny was a great guide and kept us entertained the whole way. :)
I and my wife have a VIP swamp tour with captain Zander, it was amazing, the tour took around 2 hours and we have learned a lot of thing about the swamp and wildlife, the captain very knowledgeable and took us anywhere around the swamp that we want.
By far the most fun tour! We got to see swap coons! And through the journey we got the best guides, stories, history, and recommendations from captain Walker and our pick up driver but we can remember his name. Fantastic facial hair though, but nothing beat captain walkers mustache for the journey!
The tour was fantastic and the driver was super friendly and did an excellent job narrating. We thought we had seen a lot of New Orleans until the tour now we think we will stay a little while longer. I would recommend this tour company to anyone looking for a informative tour.
Amazing tour and with an amazing guide. John R was very informative and kept the tour exciting. He made sure we were able to see any animal, or gator, available to us. Very happy with tour !!
This tour was the best part of our vacation! We got picked up by the shuttle at our hotel and taken to honey island swamp where we met our tour guide Robert. He was amazing! He was so knowledgeable about all of the wildlife and animals in the swamp and we got to see a bunch of gators! I would definitely recommend this to anyone
Capt. John Katz was amazing on the swamp tour. We saw more alligators than I thought we would. He was informative and humorous, educated us on the swamp and more.
Had an amazing time and the tour guide will was super funny! While we didn’t see much wildlife the swamp was really pretty and enjoyed the whole trip
My apologie first. I am out of practice in English, so excuse my writing mistakes.
To the tour. First of all, the Tourbusdriver. Sie was friendly, funny, direct and very informativ. I am so sorry, that I forgot her name. Would have loved to mention her. Former Schoolbusdriver and her daughter is a Cook. She was brillant
The Swamptour itselve was absolutely stunning. Gators, Owls, turtles, Blue Heron etc. Captain Zander, showed us all. His lifelong experience combined with thé acadamic Know-How his daughter (She is a teacher ) gave him, makes is a super mix of Baju-reality and science. Great Trip, Mandy thanks!
This was amazing and a favorite in our trip to New Orleans! Super easy drive from downtown New Orleans and well organized when we arrived.
Our captain John R was fun and sooo knowledgeable about the swamp and bayou.
Went on the swamp tour guided by Captain Pat. Great experience, got to see some of the beautiful wildlife and plants that thrive there. Pat was very friendly, knowledgeable and seems like an all around good guy. Would definitely recommend taking a tour on your trip to New Orleans.
Xander did a good job. Very knowledgeable of the area and history. Seen lots of wildlife( gators, birds, raccoons, catfish). Bring a jacket if going on the late (5:00)pm tour.
Captain Sambo is one of the best guides we have had on any of family tours. We are a family of 6 and were traveling with other family (family of 3). There were 5 kids on this trip ages 3, 6, 11, 14, & 17. Sambo was patient, funny, understanding, knowledgeable, and down to earth. We have had some not so good experiences with guides who didn’t do well with kids; Sambo was a great breathe of fresh air. No matter what question that was thrown at him, he answered and showed great knowledge of the swamp, animals, lifestyle, and habitat.
He continued to ask if everyone was ok and making sure we were comfortable and having fun.
He definitely made our experience a great one to remember. Thank you Sambo!!
Our group had an amazing experience! Our tour guide was Wil on the “VIP Tour” (8-10 people on the boat max). He was very knowledgeable and interacted well with everyone. He was able to answer everyone’s questions and pointed out lots of different wildlife and local trivia. Wil also clearly knew the locals along the way, who waved and said hi to us. We got to see animals come out and interact. I highly recommend Cajun Encounters and the VIP Experience. It costs more but is a more personal experience.
It was amazing! We did a Swamp Tour with the most nicest Captain ever - Captain Zander! We saw alligators, racoons and really nice hidden places in the swamp. This was really a highlight during our days in NOLA.
Had a great time at Cajun Encounters!
The bus ride from the city is about 45 minutes but felt much shorter with our amazing driver Emicka showing us a great time with her awesome knowledge of New Orleans!
The tour itself was also very informative of the swamp and is a great experience for anyone visiting from out of town!
Splurged and went on the small boat tour with Will yesterday...would highly recommend!! I was on the tour with one other lovely couple so we had plenty of room to move around and get close to the alligators!! We saw many and Will keep us laughing :) A lovely time!
Captain Pat was awesome! He made the already beautiful scenery more entertaining with his commentary and knowledge of the surroundings. I would definitely go again if I find myself back in the area!
My group had a wonderful trip through the city on the City & Cemetery Bus Tours today. Our driving narrator was Steve, and he was an awesome, knowledgeable guide. We thoroughly enjoyed our time!
I had an amazing time on the tour and Emmett was very entertaining while giving us history of the area and telling us about the wildlife. Their gift shop was filled with a variety of things and the prices were great.
My husband & I booked a swamp tour through Cajun Encounters & it was such a fun, informative, & worthwhile experience! Captain Sunny is a very welcoming, friendly, fun, & personable guide. I'll definitely be requesting him next we come to LA! My husband and I definitely saw a lot more wildlife than we thought we would & had WAY more fun than we thought we would!
Our swamp adventure was amazing with Captain Emmett at the wheel! We were able to see wildlife, and knowledgeable answers were provided to all questions from the passengers. Book a bayou tour any time you can!
Would definitely do this again and I would request Pat as my guide again. He told great jokes and was very informative about everything. The swamp was beautiful.
Will was our guide for a swamp tour and did a great job. He was funny, knowledgeable and friendly. Cajun does a nice job overall with the bus transport out and back and the organized process. We did the small bouts upgrade and the experience was worth the cost.
Our tour guide Emmett was a hoot! He was very well informed about the native plants and animals but presented the information in a way that interested my 70 year old Mom and my 12 year old daughter. No easy feat! We all agreed this was a highlight of our NOLA trip!
Such a fun and exciting tour!! We saw a lot of alligators and were informed on all of the wildlife around the swap! Captain Wade was the best!!!
We thoroughly enjoyed our swamp experience. Our bus driver, Derek, was an authentic local with great insight into New Orleans. He made excellent restaurant recommendations and we are very appreciative! Captain Katz was knowledgeable and entertaining. He was courteous by providing blankets! (Feb was a bit chilly!) We loved seeing the swamp with him!
Perfect introduction and tour into the Louisiana swamp environment. We had a blast with Captain Eddy and learned so much about the ecosystem. Saw so many alligators, racoons, birds, frogs and plant/trees. Weather was perfect as was the company on the boat. So happy we ventured out of NOLA to experience the surrounding environment/marshes.
Our tour guide Desi gave the best experience ever!! He explained everything very well and was very interactive during the whole tour. Loved every single second of it! Highly recommend this tour.
Took a great trip with our guide Desi today. 7 of us (4 adults, 3 kids) did the smaller 10-person boat tour, which allowed us to go in some areas the bigger boats can’t go. Saw TONS of gators, capped off near the end of the tour by a 9’ monster. Learned a lot about the animals and plants in the swamp as well as the history of the people and animals that calm the swamp home.Highly recommended!
Certainly not the best swamp tour I ever had, but possibly the best in New Orleans! If you’d love to checkout what hides behind the beautiful Mississippi, do take on this tour! Oh! Btw, the actual onboarding location is about 40min drive out of town. Do plan yourself enough time for check-in. (You will need 30min for checkin and 40min drive, aka, at least heading over the dock an hour before your actual trip time)
The driver was friendly, funny and very informative. The tour itself of the big house was short and I left with many questions, the self tour of the slave homes was informative and emotional. Every house including the big house was built by the slaves, on their sweat and sufferings...this was a sad reminder of how terrible things were back then. I highly recommend the tour.
Great trip. Easy bus ride to the swamp. Will, our boat captain, was awesome and very informative. We only saw a small alligator but plenty of raccoons, including George, the blond one!
Captain Everett was such an amazing guide! I highly recommend this tour company to anyone who wants to see local wildlife, learn something new and have a good laugh at the same time.
So glad I went with Cajun Encounters Tours for our swamp boat tour. Our bus pickup driver, Laura, was awesome, sharing stories about New Orleans and giving recommendations. Our boat captain, Neil, was fun and funny. We saw great wildlife and beautiful sections of the bayou. Would recommend, especially if you can't afford the pricier tours.
Fantastic trip. Bus picked us up on time in the French quarter. Very comfortable bus. The driver Dwayne was very funny and gave us some history on the drive out. Once there, check in was super smooth considering how many trips they had running. Captain Sonny was an excellent guide. Lots of Gators including Lola, the 12 footer. Wild raccoons up close and gators that came close so we could see them. Highly recommend as a day to get out of the hustle of the city and into some nature and quiet.
We took a small boat swamp tour today with Captain Wade. We had such a fantastic time, we saw so much wildlife and Captain Wade was so knowledgeable and friendly. Would definitely recommend this tour.
Zander was one amazing captain and tour guide! We learned a lot and got to see gators up close and even a wild hog named Kevin….Kevin Bacon. Booking again and requesting Zander! Best Father's Day per my husband.
Captain Zander was a great tour guide filled with so much information. He went above and beyond to make sure everyone enjoyed themselves. Overall a great time!
Captain Mike was an amazing captain. Very Informative, super fun. Took time to show us everything. Would definitely choose Cajun encounters over any other options. Look @ the gators!
My husband and I went on the small boat tour today with Jessep as our Captain and it was INCREDIBLE!!! He did such a great job answering questions, was knowledgeable, friendly and just a GREAT Captain!! So much more than just alligators! Definitely something we’d highly recommend!
Had a great time on the swamp tour! We booked an afternoon airboat tour and the process was very simple. After a short 45 minute drive from New Orleans to Slidell, we were soon on the boat tour. Their check in process was smooth as can be.
The tour itself was a lot of fun. Our tour guide, Everette, was hilarious and very knowledgeable. He answered all of our questions and had some cool fun facts. We saw lots of wildlife. Birds, turtles, LOTS of gators and raccoons. They came right up to the boat, so you get a good view, but our tour guide did a great job keeping everyone safe.
Had a great time, highly recommend!
Tour was awesome! Got to be on the water, see wildlife, and learn a lot about the area. Captain Mike was is halarious and a good guide.
We had a great time with Captain Wil today! Fun tour, saw lots of wildlife, Wil was full of good information on the plants, animals, and the swamp. We drove ourselves out to the tour since we are here with our car, it was an easy drive from our air bnb. Highly recommend this tour, it was a highlight of our NOLA vacation, thanks to Wil!
Took the city tour that included a drive through the French quarter and a few of the oldest neighborhoods in NOLA, got to stop in St Louis #3 cemetery, drive up esplanade Ave over to stop in Cafe Du monde for beignets, and back around st Charles to see the beautiful homes. Finally finishing in the garden and warehouse districts. We really enjoyed our guide Derek, he was super great at giving a lot of info and history tidbits while keeping it super digestible, engaging, and down to earth! I would absolutely recommend friends of mine to take this tour in the future!
Our tour guide/captain Will was great! Very knowledgeable and very funny. 10/10 would recommend! And we will probably be back in the summer to see more gators.
Will was a great tour guide! I don’t normally like boats but he made it very fun. He was extremely knowledgeable and funny!
Emmett was the best captain ever he was super knowledgeable and funny made everyone feel comfortable and safe. Our whole tour he was making the best jokes and keeping us engaged in the tour. Emmett was super kind and funny would highly recommend booking or if possible asking for captain Emmett.
Excellent tour with Captain Pat today. He was competent and confident and good fun - and we saw lots of gators, turtles, and racoons.
Steve, the driver, was actually great fun too and made the ride up to Bayou part of the experience.
I would highly recommend this company!
Great time! Highlight of our trip. Zander was amazing. We saw a huge family of raccoons, a sweet hog named Kevin Bacon, egrets, blue herons, alligators, turtles and more. It was beautiful and Zander was very knowledgeable. We will definitely be back!
Went on a fantastic swamp tour yesterday with Captain Sam! The weather was rainy and cold and therefore not hospitable to alligators but Sam kept us extremely entertained regardless. We learned a ton from him about foliage, animals, and life in the South. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting the area or locals looking for something fun to do. Thanks again Sambo!
Captain Emmett was the perfect guide for our group. He was entertaining and knowledgeable. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would highly recommend the company as a whole and him in particular!
Our bus driver, Will, was very funny, engaging, and a lot of fun on the way to our bayou tour. He was training someone new, so he was able to show us points of interest and give us some of the history of New Orleans. He played games and gave out yummy
prizes. I would definitely recommend this company for this tour.
Zander is the best. Hope you can get him as your guide. Funny, lived here his whole life, and went out of his way to show everyone a fantastic time. MUST DO attraction in LA.
Captain Xander was an amazing guide on our swamp tour. I still can’t believe how many alligators we saw! Such a cool experience, I would highly recommend!
Very helpful and friendly staff. Shaded waiting area with fans!
The tour itself is fantastic, we had Capt Zander who made sure we had a memorable tour. Got to see wild hog, turtles, birds, raccoons (including a family with babies) and plenty of gators.
We had an awesome time with Cajun Encounters! Luka was an excellent captain! He was very knowledgeable about the local wildlife, plant life, and life in Louisiana. He took the time to make us not only enjoy the swamp, but to think about our place within the ecosystem. A truly unforgettable experience and easily the highlight of our New Orleans trip. Also, the recipe recommendations from Captain Luka were a 10 out of 10!
5 stars across the board! A must-do for a New Orleans experience!!! Capt. Walker was a excellent tour guide, he showed us the bayou like it was his backyard!!
Went on a city and cemetery bus tour and absolutely loved it. Butch was a phenomenal tour guide. I highly recommend this tour, it really kicked off my stay in New Orleans and opened my eyes to so many new places to check out that I would have never thought to explore. Butch was so intelligent and personable I couldn’t have asked for a better guide, thanks!!!
Captain Zander made the swamp tour THE BEST!! My girls ( 6 and 2 ) had so much fun. He brought a personal aspect, kept us laughing and on our toes. Hope he keeps “smiling until Friday” !!
Desi was an awesome guide! So knowledgeable, encouraged questions and tailored the tour to what the guests wanted. We saw water moccasin, blue heron, alligator, wild boar and more. Such a wonderful experience!
Our tour was excellent, captain Zander our guide is very knowledgeable, we got to see alligators and he sailed us through narrow swamps and we got to see raccoons which was very cool.
Captain Zander was so kind and funny! We saw gators and Trash Pandas and learned about the different invasive species of plant and wildlife like the elephant ears and the apple snails. We were touring with a young toddler and Captain Zander was so sweet and patient with her! Even in the pouring rain we had a wonderful experience. Highly recommend!
We drove over a bridge on way to New Orleans, and voila, 5 minutes later we were on a boat with Capt Wade. Impulsive stop turned into great fun! Saw critters and learned about the slough. We were there on cold March day and needed warm clothes, tho they did provide blanket to share. Glad we went!
Best tour EVER! Our captain was Sonny & he was awesome!!! We had such a great time! Heard lots of great stories & saw lots of gators!!
Had a terrific time with Captain Zander today! He tooks us around the swamp and took us down his memory lane. Incredibly enjoyable, we got to see alligators close and personal - met “Alex.”
We got to see some raccoons as he fed them.
The wishing tree from the Disney movie “Princess and the Frog.” Would absolutely recommend for a family friendly well spent two hours!
Zander was great! Very funny and entertaining. I could tell he had a kind heart and cared about his guest. Loved the raccoons! So cute. Would highly recommend!
Had a terrific tour today with Cajun Encounters. From the pick up, boat tour and drop off, it went smooth and seamless. Capain Pat was very knowledgeable and skilled in getting us right up to wildlife. Amazing this is just outside New Orleans!
Great tour with Desi! If you are in New Orleans and want to check out the wildlife and swamp area take a tour with Cajun Encounters and request Desi! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT! just check out some of the photos of wildlife and nature we were able to see!
Plantation tour was great but our tour guide driver, Emicka was even better. She is full of energy, knowledgeable and down-to-earth. Thank you for your professionalism and I recommend this tour to everyone. Don’t forget to tip Emicka. She made us all feel safe and took great care of us.
Best,
Marisa from Cali
Xander was our captain and delivered a wonderfully detailed tour! We saw and learned about a wide variety of flora and fauna. I highly recommend this tour and more specifically this captain.
We had such a great time with Captain Wade!!! It was like he knew where all the cool critters were hiding. Very informative and fun. And we got great pics!!!
This was an amazing tour! Our tour guide Zander was very knowledgeable and entertaining. Definitely worth it and would 10/10 recommend. We saw quite a few alligators and some of the Princess and the Frog inspiration along with other wildlife.
DESI was the absolute best and so smart! He explained everything and he was so conversational with everyone! I didn’t see a single person who wasn’t drawn into Desi speaking on all so many topics! Go to see the swamps and request Desi as your captain and the experience will be so much fun for kids and adults!
We had the best time. Our guide Capt. John was so funny and very informative. We loved getting to see all the wildlife. The experience was great! We will be back.
Will was an amazing guide. He was very funny and very informative. The kids said this was the best tour they've ever been on. We all had a great time and got to see a lot of swamp life.
Zander, our tour guide was awesome! Knew all the hidden gems and showed us all the wildlife. 10 out of 10 would recommend going here for your New Orleans water tour.
I’ve lived here a for a decade but never made it out into the real Bayous until a friend from France just visited and wanted to see alligators. Our tour guide, Captain Zander beyond exceeded expectations and was the absolute best one could have hoped for! Hands down by far the best tour guide I’ve ever had in my life! He knows the old alligators by name, their comings and going’s, has a great sense of humor, very intelligent and just genuine and kind down to earth Louisiana man of the country. Captain Zander has spent half his life a farmer and half living in the Bayou and is a living, breathing encyclopedia of Louisiana and it’s Nature. Handled the boat like an extension of his body. I heard one person say to him something like he can go from Hawaii 5-0 to a Seal Team Six quiet creep haha.
Captain Zander navigated even the tightest channels with impressive ease and grace, making multi-point turns in heavy Cyprus trees, vegetation and such. Plus, He knows really well how to not startle the wildlife, but rather often attract it from dense bush… From what I experienced I’d say this is a well run operation that is respectful of the environment and wildlife and takes great care of the guests. I’m definitely gonna come back every now and then to unwind and marvel with respect at this truly special and unique corner of the universe and the spirit and endurance of the incredible folks who live in these beautiful bayous.
P.S. Special shout out to Dwayne! our bus driver who also was just amazing and hilarious and who I’m going to leave a another review for since this one is so long and he most definitely deserves his credit for the experience of the day too!
My husband and I went on a small boat swamp tour with Captain Pat and it was so much fun!!! Captain Pat was a terrific guide and shared a lot of really interesting information and history. The swamp area was beautiful and out on the more open waters we saw alligators and went down a cove where there were many raccoons. We loved it! Also got to hold a turtle before we boarded the boat which was fun. Our guide on the bus was Dwayne and he was wonderful as well!
Cap. Walker was the greatest! His endless sad jokes were the best and he had an immense amount of knowledge about the swamp and a bunch of other cool facts. Definitely deserves the yeti cooler (:
City Bus Tour was fantastic, fun and informative all thanks to our guide Derek! Have been to NOLA many times and learned a TON of things I didn't know. Very much enjoyed his humorous, kind and knowledgeable nature.
This is a great swamp tour. We saw several alligators and other wildlife. Our bus driver, Dewana, was very knowledgeable about the city and gave us many food recommendations
We LOVED this tour! Captain John R provided a lot of insight about the animals, vegetation, and “swamp people” that could only come with years of actual experience living in and navigating through this area.
Our family enjoyed all the wildlife and were thrilled and surprised to find out that there were swamp raccoons and wild hogs that were friendly enough to come right up to the boat! We loved watching Captain John R feed the alligators 🐊
It was so interesting to see the river homes and hear stories about living life in the swamp. Our family has taken a handful of tours while visiting New Orleans and if we could only recommend one can’t-miss tour, it would be this one!
I really loved this place. We went on the smaller party option which opened up more oppurtunities for hands on fun. Our captain, Walker, was super fun and he even showed us some of the racoons that he named.Lucky. Ringo, Gramps, and a few others i didnt hear the names of. He told us great stories of his childhood and made a lot of dad jokes... I really recommend this place if your going on vacation. I had a great time and we got to see some gators!!! Definently five stars. Considering that a 12 year old can get entertained by this, anyone can.
We did the swamp tour yesterday. Everything is great. The round trip bus service is comfortable and easy. We saw multiple alligators and other swamp animals. My child didn't feel well during the boat ride. The captain sent us back and provided cold towels and water. The gift shop staff is nice and caring as well. Will book other tours with Cajun Encounters next time.
Tour was great! Got to see a lot of wild life I wouldn’t have otherwise been able to see. I had Captain Walker and he had a great deal of knowledge on everything we asked and kept everything fun with his jokes.
Tour far exceeded our expectations. Captain Pat took the time to find us a beautiful Diamondback Watersnake. He was very knowledgeable about the wildlife and plants in the area.
Loved this tour so much! Best part of our trip. Zander was a wonderful guide- informative, genuine, and entertaining!!
Capt. Desi was absolutely amazing, I rather enjoyed his sense of humor and the fact that he was knowledgeable and the excitement he had with giving us information and answering our questions. I enjoyed his customer service as well as impressed with him attempting to help a fello captain who’s boat stopped working. Every employee was absolutely more than willing to assist and answer any questions. Thank you all especially Desi for a wonderful morning
First time exploring New Orleans and doing a swamp tour was a bucket list to check off during our stay! Booking with Cajun encounters was smooth and they are very communicative with pick up times and reminders. Our driver Rene was very punctual and he made sure our ride to the swamp area was engaging as well. Special shout-out to our boat captain Wil- he was phenomenal. I appreciate that he took extra time to explain parts of the swamp to us and I definitely learned a lot about New Orleans culture in this trip! Wil is super down to earth, friendly, knowledgeable, and fun! I appreciate his positive attitude and efforts to engage the group, but also ensure safety during our boat tour. Thanks for the best experience, Wil!
Went on the Cajun Encounters Swamp tour and Zander was our captain and tour guide. It was such an amazing experience and a must for anyone who’s thinking about it. Zander was very knowledgeable of the swamp land and the creatures that inhabit it. He’s also very funny and kept us entertained the entire time. Would highly recommended!
We loved the tour with Captain John Katz. His experience coupled with amusing personal stories and educational information about the area provided for a few hours of time in true bayou nature that was relaxing and extremely interesting.
Captain Walker was awesome! Funny and full of knowledge he really enhanced our trip. We saw birds and raccoons. Too cold for much else. Even not seeing gators and boars, totally awesome trip.
Took the New Orleans City & Cemetery tour with Derek as our driver/ tour guide. The tour was fun and informative. Derek was very knowledgeable and also a lot of fun, a great experience!
I highly recommend the plantation combo tour. Both Oak Alley and Laura Plantations. Rene was our driver and he was really great.
Last Sunday (27 November 2022) we went on an early morning swamp tour with Captain Sambo (move over Captain Jack, Captain Sambo is our favourite now!). The fact that it's taken me a week to write this review should in no way be taken as a reflection of my enthusiasm for the tour, because the whole experience was absolutely fantastic.
We've been in New Orleans for a month and it was our favourite day so far. Sambo knows the swamps like the back of his hand and has a genuine respect for the habitat and all who live there - he was so friendly and warm to anyone we passed on the waterway and even took a moment to let us enjoy the silence and serenity of the swamp. We deeply appreciated the time he took to tell some personal stories about living (what most of us would consider to be) "off the grid" and we left with huge appreciation for the swamp and the captains. Sambo also answered all of our questions and was great with the kids and adults alike. I'll be honest, I'm so surprised there aren't more rave reviews about Sambo on here because he was just that good - I'll just have to assume it's because he's new?!
Our driver, Steve, was also extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and funny! We loved the banter between him and the boat captains.
We would highly recommend this tour and this company to everyone - if you go on the swamp tour, see if you can get Captain Sambo - you won't regret it!
What a wonderful tour! Emicka was our driver, and she was outstanding. Funny, smart, and entertaining. She went above and beyond what one would expect from a tour bus driver. She turned what I expected to be a rather long and tedious bus ride into something fun, and informative. Tour bus itself was punctual, safe, and pleasant. Emicka kept us informed and did everything in her power to make our tour enjoyable and memorable. I highly recommend Canjun Encounters and Emicka! Thanks!
The swamp tour was an amazing experience and Will was the best guide! We saw so many different animals and Will was informative, friendly, and helpful. Excited to go back again this summer!
Our guide ( Zander ) was very helpful and knowledgeable regarding questions asked. His presentation was extremely excellent. Next time me & wifey visit New Orleans we're definitely doing the swamp tour again
We booked a Swamp Tour and had Captain Barry, he was fantastic. He was very knowledgeable, friendly, answered questions and made sure everyone got the pictures they wanted. He fed alligators and raccoons and gave everyone time to enjoy watching them. Everything about this place had me smiling. Booking was simple, we booked online with pickup, they have lots of pick up spots in NOLA, one was close to our hotel. The bus driver was great, telling us stories and history of the city on our 45 minute drive. We arrived and had time to use the restrooms which were plentiful and CLEAN. The whole process was very well organized, where you sat to wait for your bus was covered so you were out of the heat. The gift shop was great, with cold water, snacks and really reasonably priced sweatshirts and t-shirts. After the tour, it was easy to know what bus to get on, as well. I would 100% book with them again and recommend them to everyone I know.
I had so much fun, it is definitely a must do. Our tour guide Capt. Walker brought back everyone he left with which is always a good in my book. He definitely deserves a yeti cooler 💅 …
Absolutely magnificent swamp tour les by the excellent Captain Pat who was both entertaining and knowledgeable. Have done tours around the world like this and this was definitely the best - lots of alligators next to the boat, herons and great egrets and adorable raccoons. Informative explanations about the swamp itself and local life.
Well worth the money. Also many thanks to driver Derek who was equally knowledgeable on our journey although we took one his restaurant recommendations and that wasn't so good! Highly recommend anyone coming to New Orleans does this trip.
Our bus ride out to the swamp was fun and our driver (bus 50), I didn’t get her name, was very knowledgeable. When we arrived we had a great swamp tour with Captain Luca. He was the absolute best! Luca explained so much about the bayou and the way of life. It was so interesting and so much fun.
Tour with Desi was amazing! Such a wealth of knowledge from different experiences and fun to learn from. We saw alligators, raccoons, turtles, herons, and so much more. Would go again!
Desi our tour guide was very informative and entertaining. As a Texan and a previous resident of NW Louisiana, I love learning about our surrounding environments in the south. Desi is a true resident and you can tell he loves his swamp.
We had the best time at Cajun Encounters and saw so many gators on our boat tour! After the tour we were able to hold a baby gator in the gift shop. We will remember this experience for years to come!
The mid-day swamp tour with Captain Zander was an amazing experience! Even though it was the end of November were able to see tens of alligators, various birds, turtles, raccoons and even three wild hogs!
This tour is completely worth it! Our guide Scott D was very knowledgeable and committed to making sure all of the guests on the boat saw all of the wild life. We had a great time seeing the gators, wild boar, raccoons, and turtles. The bus driver Daniel was also great. Picked us up right on time in New Orleans and returned us safely when the tour was over. This tour company is very well organized and you will be well taken care of. We even got to hold a baby gator!
Was a truly awesome tour from jessup today saw countless Roscos a handful of George's a spider the size of an orange beautiful birds and other reptiles. I asked 20 questions at least and jessup answered every one thoroughly, was informative of indigenous plant and animal life. If not for the fact that it was double the price to be driven versus driving myself out would be 5 stars plain and simple. Id a dvise everyone with a car to just drive out is not that bad and worth the savings. Well be back again 100%. Also so happy that marshmallows aren't used to bait the gators made me happy. This is no knock on the bus driver either she was amazing and was so keen on the area and exciting things to see and do. Her name strated with a D but i couldn't spell it if i tried so i won't out of respect.
We went on 4 of Cajun Encounters tours and they all were great! We had Renee as a driver to the plantation tour and the swamp tour. Both rides were on time and comfortable. We also did the City tour and the ghost bus tour. We will definitely be booking again on our next trip!
Everything about our Cajun Encounters experience was outstanding! Laura, our shuttle driver was so friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Arriving at Cajun Encounters was a breathe of fresh air with a clean establishment and bathrooms. Our tour guide Luca couldn't have been better. We loved every bit of the experience he provided. I definitely recommend Cajun Encounters!
Our guide, Rene’ entertained us on the drive to and from the plantation. The house and grounds were beautiful and we had the right amount of time to see everything and have lunch. We did the Oak Alley tour. Highly recommend.
Zander was the best guide! We had a large group and they work with us to get us all on the same boat and we had a great experience!
Very exciting swamp tours! Our captain John Katz is very knowledgeable and funny, and showed us quite some wild animals, including of course alligators! He throw snacks to the gators so they swim to the boat and stay nearby for a while, and we got a very close look, At that spot we saw 5 gators at the same time! Don’t miss this tour if visiting New Orleans.
Pros: Our swamp tour was outstanding thanks to Luka. He had so many awesome stories to share. He was delightful, informative and all around great personality. The view was gorgeous.
Con: check in was very inefficient. No social distancing inside a very small area with only one check in line, which was taking forever because they were allowing people to purchase tickets in that line. Not to mention, we waited so long and the tours were scheduled to start. Many people waiting thought they were going to kiss their trip. No communication once we arrived. The other lines were also SUPER crowded and many customers were very confused. The check in could improve by being electronic instead of a paper spreadsheet and highlighters.
Thankful to Zander for an amazing, informative, and fun experience today at Cajun Encounters! You got skills! He made sure we had the best views! Thank you Zander!
We booked the small boat tour. We really lucked out as our tour guide, Desi was very informative and could answer any question we threw at him. This is a tour not to be missed. Make sure you get Desi as your guide. This boat did not have a canopy which means you get to see more (birds etc.)
I think our guide was named Captain Dan. He was an excellent tour guide. The tour itself was unique and interesting. Highly recommend!
Had a VIP swamp tour with captain Jason. He is really knowledgeable and informative. We saw many alligators, raccoons, snakes, giant spiders across the tour. Overall experience is also really smooth, from pick-up to drop-off. Highly recommend them to anyone who would like to encounter alligators!
I had a wonderful time today out on the tour. Captain John R was absolutely fantastic! He shared so much information and knowledge and if I do this again I’d love for him to be our guide. This was a beautiful part of the country to see and learn about.
Had a great time with our guide, Desi. He was very knowledgeable and lots of fun to be on board with! We saw raccoons, gators, herons, swamp rats, and lots of other wildlife.
Took the Honey Island swamp tour. Bus arrived promptly at pick up spot. Driver, Emika, was friendly and welcoming. She shared a lot of great info with us during the drive to the swamp. It made the time go by fast and helped us get a better feel for the city. She let us know very clearly what to expect/do when we arrived and when our tours were complete. Very helpful! At the facility we checked in quickly. They had decent restrooms and a fairly priced cute gift shop. We had booked the small boat tour with guide Emmett. He was very informative and fun. He seemed to have an extensive knowledge of the area, plants, animals, and was clearly an experienced boat driver. Overall tour was a great experience!
Captain Emmitt was fantastic. We really enjoyed our tour. Lots of interesting information. Beautiful area. Our family recommends Cajun Encounters.
Captain Wade was great! He was very knowledgeable about the area, the vegetation, and wildlife. We enjoyed the intimacy of the VIP tour and got lots of close up photos!
Captain Barry rocked! His professionalism & knowledge was spot on. Thank you Barry for showing our crew of teachers a fantastic time! I will be back with my family to take your tour again.
One of the best tours we have taken while on vacation. Fran was amazing and very knowledgeable! The ride to the swamp was great.
Our boat captain was also entertaining and knowledgeable. We saw alligators of all sizes, birds, turtles, raccoons and a snake. The swamp didn’t have a lot of mosquitoes or other bugs. Comfortable ride and we happened to have perfect weather.
Scott our small boat captain was awesome! He was very knowledgeable and got us up close to the wildlife. Our bus driver Dewayne was really nice, too!
I had a great experience booking, the shuttle from our hotel to the swamp was very organized, and we all had a great time with Zander! I’ve never done anything like this before and everyone had a really fun time. When I am back in New Orleans again, I want to do more tours with Cajun Encounters.
Captain Zander and Captain Dustin are the ones to go with! The tour was amazing and well worth the drive out. We saw so much wildlife including RACOONS!!
Was picked up on Canal Street by Emika and she was a delight! Would recommend for tours. It was a great drive and actual tour by Captain Pat. Did the swamp tour.
Had an amazing time on the swamp tour today our captain Sanders was very knowledgeable and extremely fun! This is a must do activity when in NOLA and I highly recommend booking with them.
We did the swamp tour with Captian Zander and loved it! He was very knowledgeable and down to earth. He knew the best gator spots and navigated very well.
A unique and entertaining experience that was as educational as it was fun. Captain Walker knows these swamps like the back of his hand and had us all laughing while he guided us through the tour. Highly recommend and would do it again.
Everything you could ask for in a swamp tour. Super nice people in every aspect of this business; Knowledgeable, entertaining and enthusiastic. Captain Wil was a blast and incredibly patient with photo ops. Worth every penny. Kid friendly. Great gift shop.
Will was absolutely amazing, entertaining, and super funny! The tour was great, we saw lots of wildlife and my kids (7 and 17) absolutely loved it.
Captain frank and Dwayne ( The Rock) were some of the most entertaining and educational people! Thank you so much for such a wonderful and fun experience. We saw gators , raccoons, turtles and a lot of birds. Thank you!
Very fun tour! Saw a lot of wildlife and our guide Zander kept everything fun and light-hearted with his commentary and jokes.
Tour was very good saw many alligators, blonde raccoon, turtles, apple snails and learned lots about the swamp habitat. Captain Wade was great and very personable.
Wil was a fantastic tour guide ! The trip was awesome we saw lots of gators, raccoons, spiders, snakes, really got the full experience we were lookin for. He really knew his stuff and had all kinds of facts and trivia about the swamp. 10/10 would recommend cajun encounters with wil
I did the Swamp Tour with Desi and our bus driver a lovely woman whose name I can't remember. The tour was great an Desi did a wonderful job, although there were a lot of small children on the boat who weren't very patient and not interested in the fascinating things he was telling us about.
Also Cajun Encounters let me reschedule my tour for free, because I was sick and couldn't get to go as originally planned.
I also did the plantation tour to Oak Alley, our driver Rene explained a lot about New Orleans and made the drive interesting. The plantation was beautiful and the exhibitions there were very informative.
Thank you Cajun Encounters for making our stay in New Orleans more special.
My family and I had an AMAZING time with Captain Jacob. The tour was absolutely beautiful and informative. We saw alligators and wild life animals. The staff was very professional and did not beg for tips like other tours. The bus ride was extremely comfortable and clean. This tour was the highlight of our trip.
Apart from the excellent swamp ride by Captain Jerry, we really liked the “pre-tour” tour given by our bus driver Derreck. He gave a very interesting mix of sight-seeing and personal view on NOLA current challenges, one worthy of a tour by itself and an excellent addition to a great tour.
We had a group of four adults visiting from Buffalo, NY. Our boat captain, Dale, was great! He answered so many questions and was very knowledgeable about the wildlife and vegetation. We were hoping to see at least a few alligators, but we saw tons of alligators! We also saw wild hogs, cranes, turtles, raccoons, egrets, and osprey. This company was so much cheaper than others we found online. Well worth the money!
Excellent trip with captain wade! It exceeded our expectations. There were so many interesting animals and sites to see! Highly recommend.
Highlight of our trip!! So serene and saw lots of wildlife. Shout out to Captain Pat for a great tour!
Awesome experience. Derek was the best bus driver tour guide. Tons of knowledge and hilarious. Go here before you explore NOLA - great restaurant & entertainment recommendations. We saw so much on the boat tour with Captain Walker- who is also hilarious and super knowledgeable. The raccoons were the best part.
