Reviews of Bunker Hills Campground Visitor’s Center
Greg “FlyBoy”
Great place for families and friends. The weekends are jumping and the week days are laid back and mellow. Campground hosts are nice people, down to earth motorcycle enthusiasts. I will definitely be back!

It is nice here, the location is awesome and nice that they have 50amp spots for big rv. It’s also good that they have a 7 day max stay so everybody gets a chance to stay here. There’s a lot of loose sand piles in the spots so it gets a bit messy for an RV park but that’s not the end of the world. The signage to get to the spots is kind of confusing so it’s easy to accidentally go the wrong way, the older lady on the golf cart got kind of mad at me for going the wrong way by mistake and came and ripped our camping pass off on our departure day, she doesn’t seem very friendly, a friendlier smile and maybe more forgiving and welcoming attitude would go a long way. The front desk people were super nice I believe the lady’s name was Lauren she was awesome. Need to figure out a system to take Canadian credit cards though, was a pain to get it to work. They also questioned why I was taking firewood kind of accused me of stealing it but I had paid for it the day before I guess it’s good they watch the pile but also was kind of taken aback by the comment lol. Oh well, I’d stay again, my kids liked the play park, the price was really fair and the grounds are very clean. Great dump station also. One thing I’ll say, please change your website reservation system. It is awful, I can’t imagine somebody not very tech savvy trying to figure it out.

Great campground with extremely roomy sites.

It's nice, clean. Neighbor campers were a bit obnoxious and loud but that didn't bother us too much. I have never camped in city park in MN so it was different. I wasn't worried about wildlife which for me was a bummer. Staff were extremely helpful and they get 5 stars.
Aaron Guetter
We've camped here multiple times in various times of the year. It's always clean, fairly quiet, and you don't realize you're in the middle of a city.
Rick Post
Friendly staff. Really nice park fits pretty much any size rig.
Billie Dobbs
Great value, close enough to the Metro, but still feels like the countryside.
Gyeoung-Jin Kang
It is a nature reserve park that can be enjoyed near the city. The campground is also very well maintained.

So far, so good. I'm currently in my third of 7 days here. I reserved a spot usually for campers, but I am in a tent so that I have running water and electricity if I want it. The trails are well-maintained, and the restrooms have showers - those are clean as well. No complaints. A simple, satisfying environment.

I've camped here twice and enjoyed it both times. This most recent visit (late August 2018) there was a marching band practicing or something nearby in the early morning. That was a bummer, but understandable based on the location. We had a secluded campsite, which I loved. There are fire pits and the sites are clean on arrival. We got a TON of firewood for the money and ended up leaving some for the next campers. The bathrooms and showers are clean, although it can take a bit for the water to get warm. Also, the showers are the type that automatically turn off which I suppose is efficient.
Adam Pope
Pros: Cleanest bathrooms ever
The most spacious campsites we've ever experienced
Paved trails
Near by waterpark and stables
Cons:Nonkilned campfire wood
Campfire pits could be better
Overall we had a great experience here. All staff were wonderful. Great activities to keep the kids entertained. Close to the twin cities metro. Definitely will come back soon.

This is a nice family friendly Campground with plenty of trails and playgrounds to keep the little ones busy. Location is ideal as it is near Coon Rapids, Minnesota, allowing for quick errand runs. Campsites are sufficiently spaced apart to allow for a more private experience. However, campsites are close enough to accommodate groups wanting to camp together. Firewood is available for a reasonable price costing $5 for a bundle of seven logs. Bringing in outside firewood is not allowed. Friendly and accommodating staff.
Rocky Tingler
Nice campground in the midst of the busy suburbs. Very quiet, large shady sites and a friendly staff. Well maintained paved bike trails all throughout the park.
Justin W.
The thing I love about this campground is that you feel like you are in the woods far away from the city but actually you’re in the middle of a suburb. Great trails to walk and full hookups available however the trees prevent satellite signals.
Miss Frizzy
Nice area, quiet. Water and electric, they have a dump station at the beginning of the sites.
This campground is not big rig friendly - the sites and roads are very narrow. We had to very carefully get through to our site which was thankfully one of the pull throughs (site 43). This park has a lot of things to do here.

Easy to register for sites using website. The campgrounds are spaced nicely in order to prevent the feeling of being crowded. Trails are well maintained and parking lots are also in very good shape. Located in suburbs, it is isolated enough to get the feeling of being away from all the hustle and bussle.
Mark Frick
Rating is for the trail system, from the perspective of a trail runner. There's lots of well maintained grass and asphalt trails for running. You won't be bumping into people all the time. Definitely one of my favorites in the North Metro. Also has pretty good hiking, but watch out for poison ivy.

WE STILL LOVE THIS CAMPGROUND! (2020 update)
It's been over 15 years our family has come here, and we will keep coming back. Five stars easily, despite some awkwardness.
SOCIAL DISTANCING?!? (2020)
Due to COVID some bathrooms are shut down. What was extremely awkward and frustrating, but not the camps fault, is the walkers and hammock-ers this year. Many walked right through our campsite and setup their hammocks or blankets right next to us. We have little kids, and at times this was really creepy. The office and park rangers told us to kick them out, and even put up signs, but it was still really awkward especially when they ignored the signs.
CAMPSITE: Over the years they have expanded and improved the sites. We have our regular one we love, but the expansion has meant a new and improved shower house! As well as other features too.
BICYCLISTS and HIKERS: There are many scenic trails here, paved and not paved. Maps are posted everywhere and the paved trails are even visible on Google maps. One new update is a bike maintenance station. It has several of the standard tools you would need including a bike pump, all "locked down" so they won't disappear. You can find it next to the campground visitor center.
WILDLIFE: You are camping, there is going to be wildlife! We saw dear on the bike trail! Heard wolves/coyotes in the distance (in Andover?!?!)! What was the worst was the whippoorwill bird at 4am. It's camping though, so even though we've heard this little guy before, we come back. No raccoon 🦝 issues. We even leave our food out at night.
GROUPSITE: The group camp site ⛺ has water and electric hookups, but you can't pull your car or RV in. I'd like to see them change that, at least for loading and unloading. However, it does have a ton of room for many families or groups of friends.
CARETAKER (2020): Keith and Mary are awesome! Though our kids needed some correction from them, they were polite to our kids and friendly. We look forward to seeing them again next year.
It's great to have this campsite here in the suburbs. Believe it or not, when we lived an hour from Canada we would drive down to camp here. Definitely a family tradition now.

For being our FIRST time(ever), with a pull behind
It was easy to get into, easy to check in, the campsite was clean, and easy to exit. I will definitely suggest Bunker Hills Campground to any and everyone. Thanks for making our very first camping trip a successful on.
Kimberly Marie

So this was my first visit to Bunker Hill campground... The gals in the office were more than friendly and helpful to me.. and the other campers were as cool as i could possibly imagine... I was able to take a warm shower without any interruption and take a night hike through not only the paved trails, but also through the mowed trails throughout the grounds.. I did not get a chance to go into the water park yet, but I will make it a point to check it out soon with my children and any of my friends who want to join us... Besides all I've mentioned so far, the tent sites offer seclusion if you want it, but also are close enough to the other sites, that a camping community gathering of sorts can easily take place as well, which in my case, I thought was as cool as could be... There were some really loud night birds which made me feel like I was somewhere way out in the wilderness, even though we are right there camping in Blaine.. Overall, I enjoyed my stay at Bunker Hills campground and suggest a visit for anyone who wants to get out and camp without a long drive because it's so close to the cities...
Marcia Gangl
Very nice campground! A lot of space between sites. We had a problem with our 5th wheel and the camp host was great in helping us. Can't say enough good things about this campground
J.R. Giesecke
Great little campground, so close to home.
But don't tell anyone. Don't want this place to get too busy ; )
Right now it's almost empty on weekdays.
David Froome

Sydney Esser-O'Neill
Great park, totally worth the 6 bucks to get a day pass. There is camping, bike trails, a water park, play grounds, a vet memorial, and a majority of the area is covered with oak trees. Its beautiful and super fun.
D Hampton
Definitely booking a visit ASAP after visiting with family recently I’ve been working on making another trip in the near future this location was great for the entire group.

Spent one weekend here and went to the water park for the day. It's a really nice park and the kids insist we come back. Nice trails for biking on and large sites.

They need Wi-Fi around the camps sites. Also to need your phone to call emergencies if you need to.

Wish the pool wasnt under construction and or a lake was near the grounds. Besides that it was awesome get away feel in the midst of the city.
