There are other snorkeling experiences out there but this was by far the best I have ever been on. Captain Max and Santiago provided an amazing time, they were able to provide one on one instruction, conversation and answered all of our questions. You can tell this is their passion and not just a gig for them, their knowledge of the waters and species around Hawaii was astounding. You can go with a bigger operation if you want but you will not get the experience we had, not even close. Do yourself a favor and book with Captain Max. P.S. the photos were taken by Santiago with the go Pro camera, worth every penny!!!!

Truly had a great experience with my daughter when we went over a week ago. The staff is very friendly and knows a lot of interesting facts. Not only did you get to see plenty of turtles but we also got to see different types of fishes as well. They had a ladder when returning to the boat which made it easier for me to get back on and they help you if you need extra assistance. The views on the way back was incredible of Waikiki and diamond head. I look forward to bringing more of my family members on this in the future. Mahalo Captain Max and crew! Definitely a trip to remember

Enjoyed our trip out to Turtle Canyon with Camila at the helm and Savannah as our snorkel guide. Both make you feel like you’re welcome on board and they have great customer service skills. There were five customers on the boat and Savannah made sure we all had a great time in the water. We saw plenty of turtles and colorful fish and and held a sea urchin! Both ladies were taking photos on their personal cameras and sent them to us so we didn’t even need to pull out our phones. If you are like our group of three that prefer small boat tours then this is worth every penny as compared to going on a boat with 50 plus. We would definitely book with captain Max again and we even bought sun shirts from them and we don’t usually buy souvenirs!

We took the semi private tour and it was the best choice ever! Capt Max and Devon were great hosts. All the other boats seem like they were over crowded and did not get the attention from their captain to point out where the marine life was. We saw turtles, sting rays, fish, and dragons. Yup dragons. 😝 A major plus was the speed boat!!!!!! Don’t book the other boats. Book with Captain Max. You will not regret it.

What an absolutely wonderful experience! Camila and Savannah were so friendly and informative. Savannah made sure we all got to see sea turtles and pointed cool things out to us while we were snorkeling! The water was clear, the sea creatures were out and about, the weather was perfect. All around perfect trip. Don't hesitate to book your trip with them, it was really nice having a smaller group!

Last minute booking wants the perfect way to spend my last morning in Hawaii. Service was excellent and I felt at ease while out on the boat and snorkeling! It was a small group of 4 which felt little was a perfect size. It was my first time and I can't wait to return. We went to a great spot that had an abundance of fish and three sea turtles! It was such an amazing experience. FUN TIP: BE SURE TO BRING OLD CRACKERS OR DRIVE CEREAL FOR SNACKS FOR THE FISH. 🤙🏾

This was the most amazing experience!!!! I was super nervous because it was only the second time I’ve snorkeled… my husband a Florida native loves everything water and it was also his 50th Birthday and I couldn’t have imagined a better way to spend it!!! Our instructor was so awesome!!! She helped to calm me down and put me at ease … she was super informative and knowledgeable and she even had me contemplating getting dive certified upon leaving 😜🤔 After about 5min I was able to relax and fully take in the experience!!! Seeing the turtles up close was amazing also their relationship with the fish that clean their shells was beautiful to see!!! I love that it was a small group (3 couples) plus the captain and instructor. It was a very intimate experience and I loved every moment!!!! I definitely recommend Captain Max Boat Tours and we will definitely book them the next time we are in Waikiki ❤️

What an awesome morning! I’ve been snorkeling before but never like this. Crew was awesome and so knowledgeable. It turned out to just be my daughter and I on the tour after the other group cancelled. After watching the bigger groups and crowds I was so happy we decided to book with Captain Max! Booked through the link that came up on my Facebook. The crew is very knowledgeable and patient. It’s a semi private tour since they max the tour to to 6 people. Camila and Alex ate great they really instilled confidence and helped us get all of our family safely into the water and back in the boat especially with our 5 year old that is learning to swim. Highly recommend this tour to turtle canyon with Captain Max! We just got back and saw plenty of turtles and fish. Book now if you’re in Honolulu, trust me you won’t regret it!

Captain Max Boat tour to Turtle canyon was such an amazing experience. We had Garrett & Savannah to take us out & honestly Savannah is what made the trip so wonderful. She was not only knowledgeable about the sea life but she gave us a little history tidbit of Pearl Harbor & literally took our 8 year old daughters hand & showed her the turtles personally. Our daughter was extremely nervous being out in the open ocean & we did not think that she would stay out there for 10 minutes but because Savannah was so welcoming & patient with her she was out there the entire time, swimming around with no worries. I would recommend these guys over & over! We had the best experience!

Libbie and Gabriel were fantastic guides! The tour was wonderful- saw several sea turtles up close and personal - but safely and legally distanced! I loved that Gabriel was so passionate about us grabbing trash out of the ocean when we could. Beautiful fish - even a couple of puffer fish! Love the small group setting- especially after seeing the massive other tours. The very best part of the tour was that I made a friend for life on our tour- Melissa from Michigan and I became fast friends (even the same age!) and ended up biking back together to Waikiki and spending the day together while my poor husband was stuck in meetings. The following day, we spent the day adventuring again! Thank you, Captain Max!

We booked our tour kind of on a whim. I was on the fence about as I’ve never snorkeled before but my husband really wanted to go (and I REALLY wanted to see turtles!!). Captain Max was friendly, funny and welcoming but the real gem here was Savannah. She made me feel so comfortable and kept checking to make sure I was okay. It was a great experience all around and we’ll probably be back next year!!

We had the most amazing time. Garrett and Kyla were extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and brought us out to the reef on a small but spacious boat with a group of 6. This was perfect if you don't like big groups. It made the experience a lot more personable. One guide has the boat, the other stays in the water with the group and points out cool things to see, gives instructions for easier /better snorkeling and makes sure everyone is safe. We didn't have kids in the group but first timers. I honestly think the tour is perfect for every experience level and kids as well. And....we saw plenty of fish and turtles. It was prefect and i am very glad we choose Captain Max.

By far, the best snorkeling experience my husband and I have ever had! Max and Devin are absolutely awesome and super sweet. The experience in itself was unlike anything before! We saw about 15 + turtles, a load of beautiful tropical fish, and swam in the most serene blue waters with Honolulu & Diamond Head as a backdrop. Cherry on top, Devin even took photos of the turtles underwater and AirDroped them to all the passengers afterward. Oh, I should mention how intimate the experience is.. small crowd, up to 8 people so you don’t deal with the hustle and bustle of 25+ people being wild and annoying. Highly recommend!!!

I highly recommend this amazing snorkeling tour if you are staying near Waikiki Beach!! I have to be honest I was nervous about booking this, as it just randomly came up on my FB feed, while visiting Hawaii. I ran their name through every search engine and found 5 star ratings all across the board. I thought maybe this was a hoax or too good to be true, but instead it ended up the highlight of our trip!! The 2 young ladies guiding us were so knowledgeable. It was our first time snorkeling (including my 15 and 11 year old) and they made us feel so comfortable in the water. The extra money spent on the videos and pictures of the whole experience was well worth it. They even made sure to include my older father in-law, who stayed on the boat. We will definitely book them again, when we come back for another family vacation.

Truly a highlight from my trip! I am so glad I got to do this tour. The staff is so incredibly knowledgeable and you can tell they really love what they do. I wasn’t sure how I was going to get back on the boat but they provided a ladder which was east for me to climb up. They even helped me if I needed any assistance with getting up. We saw lots of turtles and even a lot of fish! The views of Waikiki was amazing as well. Mahalo for everything and I can’t wait to do this tour again and bring more people with me!

Highly Recommend!! You will be swimming right next to tons of beautiful fish and will see massive sea turtles up close. The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. Great even if it's your first time snorkeling since they can teach you everything you need to know to make the most of your experience!

Captain Max and his deck hand and snorkel master Devon were absolutely outstanding! We had the best time with them and loved that the experience was limited to a small group. We opted for the GoPro photos of the trip and were so glad we did. The pictures were perfect! Do not hesitate to book with Captain Max, you will not be disappointed!

My fiancé and I booked this tour because we wanted something more local and personal, rather than a giant tourist vessel. This trip did not disappoint! Our boat was for sure the coolest one out there, and Libbie and Camila were awesome guides. They were both super friendly and made it feel like our little group (6 people max) was just a pulls of pals hangin out. They also threw us some facts about turtles and different species of fish. Libbie even showed us a sea urchin! Another thing of note, they were both very respectful to the turtles and their space. While many other divers with different tours were getting far too close with their GoPros, Libbie stayed a respectful distance from the turtles and still got great shots! All in all I’m very glad we booked this tour. It was a great time!

This was the best thing we did in Hawaii! Highly recommend. It’s a smaller boat so it can feel like a private tour. Snorkels are provided. Music during the boat ride and some history provided. All around awesome time!

My wife and I had an amazing experience on Captain Max's Snorkeling trip. We were nervous because we've never been that far out in the ocean but their dive master Savannah was a terrific guide who got us prepared and coached us along. We were taken to an area where we saw plenty of fish and sea turtles swimming in the open ocean. The small group was a big plus, as it was just us and another couple during our time out. I can't recommend this company enough!

Her first mate was very nice and was in the water with us the whole time taking pictures and guiding us. We saw a ton of fish and quite a few sea turtles. Captain Max & his crew were amazing! Best boat in the harbor by far. Extremely safe, good speed and true experience! Although we didn’t see turtles due to high tide, they made the expense well worth it giving us a coastline tour and allowing us to swim in deep waters! Truly amazing and highly recommend. We had such a great time on our Turtle Canyon adventure. The smaller boat ride was awesome and Captain Camille and 1st Mate Libby were so much fun! They promised turtles and we saw turtles everywhere. This was so much better than a group of 20 or 30 people. Libby was awesome in the water with our group and even took pictures for us. She did offer a Go-Pro package and as a hind site it would have been worth it. Captain Camille finished the trip with a couple blows on a Conch shell. This was easily a favorite adventure of our week in Hawaii! Just to be clear…the yellow catamaran in the picture is NOT the boat Captain Max’s adventure uses. They use a rigid hull inflatable boat, seen in another picture. This particular boat was used in the British Royal Navy. We were a bit worried the boat was “inflatable” but rest assured it’s solid and SO much more fun.

The trip was fantastic! There's a maximum of 6 people per trip so my family of 5 got to do the tour alone. The guide took a bunch of pictures for us on the boat with my phone, then took his Go Pro in the water with us. In addition to bringing us to all of the turtles, he shot a ton of pictures of us and is the turtles. It was a really special experience. One thing to be aware of is that the boat is FAST. The trip out and back is bumpy as the boat bounces off the waves. We loved that; it was like an amusement park ride. As someone who regularly experiences sea sickness on bigger, slower boats, I can say that I vastly preferred this!

Perfect duration (90 minutes), location (Waikiki), and size (6 people max) for what our family was looking for on the morning of our flight home. On the way out and back we saw a huge pod of dolphins swimming around and under our boat. Once we were in the water we spotted several turtles, and tons of colorful fish were swimming a few feet beneath us. Camila and Victoria were awesome guides. This is a great option if you’re looking to get out and see some marine life but aren’t interested in the full day / lunch / booze excursions.

Such a great tour! We arrived at the dock at 7:30 and got right into it, ended up seeing around 10-15 turtles and got to swim and take amazing pictures with them!! The deckhand Luna, was able to get some amazing angles and was very informative the entire tour. Would recommend for anyone looking to swim with some beautiful turtles🤙🏽

I booked this snorkel adventure on a whim since I had a free afternoon on my solo trip to Oahu and was staying nearby in Waikiki. I have snorkeled before, but this was by far the best experience! I was a little nervous about swimming in deep water, however, our snorkel guide Libby was in the water with us the whole time and made me feel so safe and comfortable. We saw too many turtles to count and even saw a sting ray. Libby was great about pointing out all of the cool things to see and sprinkled fish food to attract the fish to us. What is great about Captain Max's tour is that it is limited to only 6 people. While maybe some tours are a bit cheaper, being able to get going faster because there aren't 30+ people being herded on and off the boat and getting the attention of the snorkel guide is definitely worth it. I went on the 3:30pm tour and there were actually only 5 of us, which was great. I'm really glad I decided to go with Captain Max Boat Tours and would recommend it to anyone wanting to snorkel with sea turtles!

Best experience during our trip to Honolulu. Our captain Garrett was warm and welcoming and dive master Savannah ensured we saw plenty of turtles! One of the main things I enjoyed about this trip was the small group size. Our boat could've have fit 6 people however only the 3 in our group was present so it was basically a private tour. When we got to the snorkeling site we saw other tour groups of 20+ people with maybe one guide in the water. I definitely felt like we would not have as great of a time. Savannah also helped our friend who wasn't as strong of a swimmer through the strong current. We decided to purchase the GoPro video package even though we did have a GoPro on us. And it's a good thing we purchased it because the GoPro kept malfunctioning the entire tour! The only thing we maybe would have changed was the timing. There were morning and afternoon tours. We did the afternoon tour and the visibility under water wasn't very clear making it difficult to see all the way down into turtle canyon. I imagine it would be much clearer if one were to go during the morning tour. Despite this we had a blast and would definitely do it again if we find ourselves in Honolulu again!

Such an amazing experience!! Would HIGHLY recommend Captain Max Boating Tour to anyone visiting for vacation or currently living on the island! I had never seen sea turtles before so it was quite an emotional and personal experience for my husband and I. The staff we had, Garret and Kyla, were hands down the best guides, super helpful and friendly! Will definitely request them for next time! What we really loved, aside from the obvious gorgeous island and sea creatures, was the personable connection we had to our boating partners. Since it is a 6 seater boat, we met a great couple from Canada and really enjoyed each other's company! Can't wait to book another trip with them in the future! We had an amazing time on the Turtle Adventure with Capt Max's team! I cannot express enough how worthwhile it was taking a small boat out for our family. There were only 5 passagers which made for a true hands on experience for all of us, as it was our 1st time snorkeling. Even my 16 year old loved it, and she is super hard to please...LOL! Hands down, absolutely the best part of our Hawaii trip! They were super easy to book online, and the boat crew was great at their jobs, and tons of fun. Thanks Alex for pointed out the different fish also! There were fish and turtles everywhere we snorkled. We also got to see our first pufferfish in the wild, which was amazing. They promised turtles and we literally started seeing them almost as soon as we left the harbor. Oh, and the views were amazing also. We also appreciated the speed of the boat as it gets you to Turtles quicker, so you have more water time, compared to the big boats. We will book again on our next trip to the islands. We Highly recommend! (Note: 100% lesson learned - bring an underwater camera or just book it in your package. We did not and only had our cellphones...ugh! We missed alot of amazing photos underwater.)

This turtle tour at sunset was the best thing I have ever done! The views were amazing and so were Kyla and Garrett. Both of the staff working were more then happy to help take pictures and stop to appreciate the incredible sunset. Kyla lead the snorkel tour and we got a pretty much personal experience with a turtle without hundreds of tourists around. It was genuinely a core memory moment. I would 100% recommend this tour to anyone and everyone!

Great experience. Fun boat ride. Savannah was so nice and helpful. She pointed out the turtles and gave so many snorkelling tips as we were true beginners. The water was clear, and sometimes the turtles came up to the surface to breath very close. Savannah even brought us a sea urchin to hold. Great small group limit, which was perfect for us. A definite highlight to our trip.

Wow this tour blew my mind ! It was the coolest adventure I have done in years ! I have known max for a while and he showed how a real captain can maneuver through the Waters. The snorkel was awesome saw many turtles, fish and even some dolphins !! Will tell all my friends and family about it !

The turtle snorkel was amazing! Garrett & Devon were friendly and energetic. Plus they made the ride to/from the reef a fun adventure; we even detoured to follow a spinner dolphin pod! we had a guide in the water spotting the turtles for us and also explaining their behaviors/habits. Major advantages of this tour over others is the intimate group size and the small agile boat which gets you close to the water and wildlife.

Amazing!!! 5 stars, 10/10 recommend. Captain Camila and our guide Libby were so friendly and fun. We saw so many turtles and cool fish. I have only been snorkeling one other time in the Bahamas but this topped it. Only having 6 people in the group as opposed to the huge tour groups was also a major bonus. It made the experience more personal and Libby could show our small group where any turtles/fish were. She was also more than willing to dive down and take pictures of my friend and me for us! Had an amazing time! Two lovely ladies took us out to Turtle Canyon Bay where we saw MANY turtles! The semi private tour was intimate and they even took us to see dolphins swimming and jumping right alongside the boat! It was truly a once in a lifetime experience and I HIGHLY recommend it. Because its a small boat, you get close attention from the captain and crew who point out all the sea turtles and cool marine life and keep you safe and comfortable on the boat! Cpt Max Tours were so amazing we went not once, but twice during our week long stay! From the minute the tour starts they make you feel like ohana! They go above and beyond to make sure that you have a blast, and see turtles while staying safe and keeping the appropriate distance. Our deck hand for the first tour Savanah went way beyond her duty to male my mom feel comfortable, safe, and included after being told she was very hesitant and nervous in the water. She made sure she was able to still stay safe, gain confidence, and see fish and turtles. She also gave me some great pointers to help me dive down foe better views. Our second tour was with Devin and Garrett! Both were absolutely amazing, and quick to lend a hand If you needed help, they also answered all of my questions and even went on the hunt for a pod of dolphins that swam by when we were swimming with the turtles. Both tours kept it fun but educational and made it a memory I won't forget. Can't wait to come back so for now To cpt max and his crew I say "mahalo for the fun amazing tours, a hui hou kāua" To everyone else. Don't delay book ASAP!! You won't regret it. 10/10 I highly recommend

We had a perfect trip. It was fun to see Honolulu/Waikiki from the water on the ride out to nearby stop. There were only two other passengers on our trip making everything quick and easy from start to finish. Garrett and Alex were great - friendly, knowledgeable and authentic. I was a little nervous we wouldn’t see any turtles close-up, but the opposite was true. We enjoyed time viewing and swimming with many and had to almost dodge them as they swam up toward us to keep a safe distance. Highlight of a wonderful trip!

Oh my gosh this snorkel charter was so much fun! Captain Garrett was awesome! He drove the boat so well and we got to the snorkel spot so quick. Garrett and Libby did a great job getting all our gear and showing us the turtles and where to go. I was amazed at how much time we got in the water to see all the marine life. This is the experience you want! Do not do those big group boat snorkel tours. They are over crowded, expensive, loud, and not intimate. Captain Max’s tour is the best (and affordable)! Our crew was so fun, comforting, and shared so many interesting facts and stories about the land, ocean, and history of Hawaii. Seriously, these ladies were the sweetest. I personally am afraid of being in a big open body of water, and they made me feel comfortable and confident the entire time. The max group size is 6 people, and one of the guides goes in the water with you, taking photos, giving names of fish, and helping us spot turtles. Such a better experience than the larger groups where you have a crowd of 20-30 people swimming in one area with 2 tour guides constantly yelling at everyone. Captain Max is the way to go!

Our family had a great trip to Turtle Canyon, it was early morning so our small group did not run into many other people snorkeling. There were a lot of turtles and fishes of all kinds, and visibility was excellent. Our guide and captain Alex and Devin were knowledgeable and kind, especially making our kids feel safe snorkeling. A semi-private turtle canyon snorkel is definitely the way to go! Alex was our guide in the water. He was patient, well-informed, and willing to answer questions about turtles and wildlife. We saw lots of turtles and even got to watch them get cleaned by the reef fish! Both Alex and Captain Max were safety‐minded and attentive to their guests. Being in a smaller group also means that you can feel better about not having such a big impact on the ecosystem. Take only pictures, leave only bubbles! Mahalo for an awesome experience!

Alex and Garret provided such an amazing turtle snorkeling tour for us! 6 people at a time for each tour, it’s about 1.5 hours. But it was worth whole! It was short and efficient. They took us right out to the area, we immediately see turtles poking their head out of the water! They were patient and gave us good guidance on the experience. It’s really amazing to experience good customer services on Oahu island. It’s very rare!!!

We took a turtle canyon snorkeling tour with Captain Max. Our skipper, Camila was amazing. She spotted a dolphin pod and took us near enough that the dolphins surrounded us and started playing around our boat. We got amazing pics, and she even sent us some videos she took from her phone. Savannah, our dive supervisor, took great care of us. She even did some badass free diving and brought up a sea urchin for us to touch. We saw a ton of turtles, and really enjoyed ourselves. Captain Max Boat Tours is the best. Garrett and Kyla were terrific guides. We’ve been on many snorkel tours on other islands. Several things make this one stand out. First- there are only 6 customers on the trip. You aren’t jammed onto a boat. We all had plenty of space. Second- The boat is a flexible bottom boat that zips through the water. Not scary, just exhilarating. Third- we were given the clearest, most concise directions on how to snorkel that we’ve ever received. We had a first timer in our group and they were made to feel so comfortable. Four- Kayla was in the water with us directing us to turtles. If you like turtles, this is the trip for you. We swam with turtles, giving them the 6ft. Distance that is required by law. Garrett stayed on the boat keeping an eye on everyone. Kayla checked in with every person, making sure that they were ok. Another benefit of a small group. Finally- everything was clean and sanitized. Book your trip now.

A fantastic trip. Can't beat the intimate experience of a boat that only takes out a max of 6 customers per trip. Not only does that make the boat rid far more enjoyable, but you basically have two guides (captain Max and a guide) for just the small number of people. That means you get as little or as much attention as you want for your questions etc. Had a great time snorkeling in clear waters with turtles and countless fish and Captain Max made a significant effort to find dolphins on the way back, resulting in us getting to see a fantastic spinner dolphin aerial performance. I scheduled a 7:30am tour and specifically selected Captain Max because it was 1.5 hrs instead of 3 like many others. I wanted to snorkel early and have time to drive to the North Shore before my evening flight. The length of the tour was perfect; we spent about 45-50 minutes in the water. There were 4 turtles actively swimming around and below us and a lot of fish. On the way out to the snorkeling location, we spotted a pod of dolphins with some babies, and we stopped to watch them. They came right up to the boat. The gear provided by Captain Max Boat Tours is professional and not cheap gear. They had my favorite Cressi short fins, so I used those instead of the ones I had with me. I absolutely recommend this tour and will book this immediately the next time I am in Oah'u.

We booked the turtle excursion from Captain Max Boat Tours through our hotel in Waikiki. What an amazing choice! We got to the pier (B) and filled out the online waivers by accessing a QR code. Soon we were getting on the boat and getting prepared for our snorkel session. Captain Max and Kayla (?) We're amazing! They were super friendly and we chatted on the way out to the turtle area in the water. We listened to tunes on the way back, and we're given some complimentary water or juice. Captain Max even took some photos of our group. There is also an option for Kayla to GoPro your party, but the girls had underwater cameras so we didn't choose that option. But the time we had was amazing! We received great instruction in order to have the best experience. Kayla brought snacks for the fish so we would have great views and be surrounded by schools of fish, then let us know when she saw a turtle that we may not have seen. What majestic creatures! It was so great seeing them in groups near the bottom, and come up even to the surface of the water. Then one of the guys that Kayla knows showed us an octopus that he got, and that was really cool. This excursion is great for those with and without experience. It helps if you are at least a moderate swimmer, but there are life jackets another flotation devices available to help you along. We really had a great family outing, and would recommend Captain Max boat tours to anyone. Mahalo!

It’s my 2nd time snorkeling. The first was on a bigger boat that had at least 2 dozen passengers on board. With a big group they take you to the spot but once there they’d just let you go on your own. With Captain Max, I love that they accomodate only a small group of 6 pp max, it’s much more personal and you’re assured that they got your back especially if you’re a bit apprehensive in the water. Capt Max is a cool captain, and Libbie is the best person to be with out there. She made sure all her guests are having a great time and the best snorkeling experience. We took the Turtle Canyon Snorkel trip reading the stellar reviews on some of the Facebook posts of Captain Max. Swam with more than 5 turtles, saw many more of them, and also encountered 2 humpback whales. Overall the tour was very intimate (as there are only 6 people onboard) and gets you more time in the water.

5 start adventure for sure!! We were blessed to have had Captain Garret and his first mate Victoria who were both super kind, chill, welcoming, knowledgeable, and fun. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. This is a smaller/faster boat with less guests so be ready to smile, laugh, and hold onto your hats 'cause you'll be in for a ride. If you want a giant boat tour to see the Turtles and want to wait around for everyone to get on the boat and then get in the water while the select few people on Captain Max's boats are swimming with the turtles...then go for it! Guy on the phone wasn't real friendly but as far as the overall experience the people in the boat are very helpful and respectful you don't have to worry if you have mobility issues cuz they will help you they are very knowledgeable about the area and you'll see more spinner dolphins and you can shake a stick at can't say enough nice things about the people in the courteous and professional I'd very much advise trying this

Santiago was taking really good care of us in the water and the fact that he speaks Spanish really made communication with my das easy, who doesn’t speak any English. Capt. Garret and 1st Mate Devin were great. They stayed out longer than planned to give our small group extra time to snorkel with the Turtles. Devin took time take pics at no charge. The guide was even kind enough to take my phone to get closer pictures of the turtles for me( I had a waterproof case on). I cannot recommend them enough. My wife and I did the turtle canyon tour with Captain Max in August of 2022. We arrived at the Ala Qai Boat Harbor about 30 minutes before the start of the excursion. There was unfortunately no sign for Captain Max and we were worried we were at the wrong location. As soon as the tour was due to start, someone came out and found us. Make sure to fill out your waivers online. It’ll speed up the process. We chose Captain Max because of the great reviews on multiple review websites and because it had a 6 people max rule. This allowed for everything to move along quicker and provided a more personal excursion. Once at the turtle canyon, you’ll see all the other boats circling the area. All the boats seem to keep to their own designated space. There were enough turtles and fish for everyone to see that there isn’t a rush of people going to one area at the same time. The guide on our tour pointed out fish, turtles, some white tip reef sharks that passed by, and got us a sea urchin to see up close. The captain and guides feed the fish and at times there will be a frenzy of fish all around. Don’t forget to bring your gopro. Captain Max provided fins, snorkel gear, and life vests. We didn’t see any pool noodles, but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t. We read there was water and juice, but we were not offered any and we didn’t ask. Overall, we enjoyed our excursion with Captain Max and would recommend them to anyone who’s looking for an intimate outing.

This snorkel trip turned out to be the highlight of our trip. Libby and garret were excellent guides. They showed us around the reef, avoiding the overcrowded groups who chose to go on a bigger tour. Libby has great videographer skills, taking our camera down to the coral where we as beginner snorkelers can’t yet descend to. The small boat offered lots of one on one time for us with the guides. Their knowledge of the reef and wildlife is extensive. Why bother with the larger charters where you’re clustered together with dozens of other inexperienced divers who might kick you on the head with thier flippers? Go with Captain Max for a unique and fun experience!

I can honestly say this is one of the BEST experiences I have had on the water. I've personally been on numerous excursions, both snorkeling and diving, and this is one you don't want to miss. The small group size made the experience much more intimate than the usual large boat / large group excursions. This allowed us the opportunity to talk with Libby and Captain Max at length, ask questions, and overall have a custom built experience that you just don't get with larger groups. Libby is a ROCKSTAR!!! This was my first time brining my kids (13 & 16) on an excursion and I could not have felt safer in the water having her there to keep an eye on everything. We saw our first turtle before we even got in the water, and once we were in the water there was anywhere from 2 - 6 turtles at any given time, we even had one surface right in front of us. We also saw a puffer fish, Libby brought up an Urchine for the kids, and even a brief glimpse of two white tips! The whole outing was only about 90 minutes, with most of it spent in the water. Honestly, I wish we could have spent more time with them, but it was great that we could be in and out without losing half a day or more as is the case with larger operators. Can't wait to get back and do it again!

Size of the boat is perfect for me because I can get really close to dolphins when I see them (I don’t touch them though). We are very happy we chose the boat tour to Turtle Canyon with Captain Max. Another boat at the pier must have had a couple dozen people on it. Our trip was during the covid pandemic, and the smaller boat and crew allowed us to relax and really enjoy the experience. The rigid inflatable boat (like the Coast Guard uses) carries six passengers, and a lot of conveniences come with that. We could quickly maneuver and drop in closer to snorkel spots. We saw dolphin pods, turtles, and Captain Max made sure we turned the boat for a great family picture with Diamond Head in the background. They also offer GoPro videos. Captain Max and his mate, Santiago, were friendly and laid back. Our kids (9 and 12) were so excited to tell their friends about their amazing dolphin and turtle experience. If you are looking for a local, non-touristy, intimate experience, this is a great choice!

Max and his co-captain (can't remember her name) were AWESOME! They were friendly and professional. We went snorkeling at the turtle canyon and seen dolphins! I will be back to visit Max!

Amazing guides took us on a super fun speedboat ride to a beautiful spot beyond the break, filled with fish and turtles. Our guide was very sweet and discrete when pointing out turtles so crowds wouldn't swarm around us. She was also very attentive in making sure where everyone was and that we were safe and feeling okay. They even threw some bait around me and fish were swimming all around me in a circle! They're extremely knowledgeable on the wildlife and gave amazing recommendations for other (free) activities back on land!! Couldn't have been more happy with our selection!
