A splendid way to experience the rivers and diverse architecture of the city. The tour guides were very knowledgeable and it added to the experience. This is a great way to see the city and it’s definitely a must do.
Gari Garrity
Loved the architecture cruise! Very knowledgeable guide, informative and fun. We did the 10am, free coffee was good and plentiful. Sit on upper deck near the ramp for great views.

Boats and buildings 🚢 🏢.
Let's do a quick blog on Chicago! I was really impressed by the architecture boat tour. We went on the Chicago Line Architecture Cruise and were not disappointed. Neither of us are architects so it was refreshing to learn facts about the buildings and architects in Chicago. To top it off, the sun was shining and it was the perfect day to be on a roofless boat.
Tip: If you go in March, bring a coat! While it may look beautiful and sunny, the wind on the boat can be chilly.
Michael Braniecki
Did the architecture tour in October 2021 and it was outstanding. Excellent, informative tour. Beautiful to see the city from the river and learn interesting details about the buildings. Would do this again, and it's the number 1 activity I would recommend for those going to Chicago!
jonathan eppley
This was a fun cruise. We went in the middle of the day, but it's like to take one of their evening cruises.
Great tour. Staff was very knowledgeable about the Chicago architecture and history of the city.
Plus, the served drinks on board.
Dana Todd
I've been using this tour for years as my go-to for entertaining my guests who visit Chicago. The boats are smaller and more intimate, the docents are very knowledgeable and each has a different script so you'll always learn something new. Plus, free refreshments! There is no better Chicago river architectural tour IMHO. They were impacted by pandemic though, and seem to have lost their nice office with bathrooms, which is the only downside. There are restrooms on the boat though.
Ángel Pérez
I had an excellent time here, I really liked the tour, if you're in town just for a couple day, this one definitely worth it, you will learn about buildings and history. Something I liked the most is that this is a small tour, not with many people, so they can handle better and get better time for you.
A J
I personally highly suggest any first time Chicago visitors to try the cruise. One of the best experience I've had. The guide was very informative (former civil engineering student) who was extremely passionate about architecture & buildings. All the pictures are taken from the tour!
Robin Leung (Eatwithrobin)
Very knowledgeable volunteer tour guide takes you along the Chicago river, learn about the history of old and new buildings along the river. If you are going around the October time, it’s cooler so dress warm.
Tip: Go early and get the tickets right there and save the convenience fee online.
John Davison
Great tour. Our guide was excited and super knowledgeable. Definitely a must do while in Chicago.
Ali
You did not visit Chicago if you did not get a ride across its river! The tour ticket office are very friendly and their tour guides are very nice and informative, they will mainly speak about the history of the city, the story behind its marvelous buildings and the ideas that pushed the engineers to put the designs of the buildings in their current architecture. I would highly recommend the tour in the river, you get to know a lot about the City of Wind.
Chris G
Lynn (Lin??) Was our tour guide and we had so much fun and learned a lot. It was really easy to hear her but if you think the guide pace is too fast feel free to just enjoy view. They provided free water and cookies on the cruise. Would recommend for anyone in Chicago!
Mark Manthy
What a wonderful experience. Our docent Ed, was incredibly knowledgeable and took the time to meet everyone on the boat and learn where they were from, incorporating portions of the tour into the home towns of our fellow passengers.
Can't wait to do it again at night.
Eric Huynh
Liked:
1) coffee, tea, and water in the lobby while you wait for your cruise to begin.
2) cookies, water and lemonade on board the ship with an option to buy alcoholic beverages (wine or beer)
3) bathrooms on ship were surprisingly very clean and tidy
4) should have mentioned her first, but our tour guide was highly knowledgable and funny all throughout, delivering, what seemed to be, a hilariously captivating historical comedy set on a boat buzzing down the Chicago rivers. I would go again.
Disliked:
1) I did not like that there was a ribcage of poles that either blocked our view or ruined a good photograph. Not sure if you'd have the same boat but mines had them.
2) the plastic seats on board got uncomfortable after a while
Arun
Lovely way to see the city and its skyscrapers from the river. The narrator was very informative that he described the story and architecture of each skyscraper with fun facts. There is a sky scraper that is in the shape of a whisky flask and you can see the glass ledge from Willis Tower from the river. Easy way to tour the city apart from walking and this tour sums up the city easily. This company provided snacks and lemonade that helped us to beat the heat. Got a groupon deal that made this tour company cheaper than the others plus its free for kids under 6 unlike other tour companies. Access is near the navy pier which is far from the center of the city that lady tour does.
David and Ruthie Wu
My neighbor who lived in Chicago recommended the architectural boat tour and I found this company on Groupon. It was very easy to book online.
My coworker and his wife decided to join me. It was a beautiful, sunny day for the tour. Inside the office there was a station for coffee for visitors to enjoy. Restrooms were available before the 90-minute tour. On board the boat, they served complimentary cookies, lemonade and water. The chocolate chip cookie were so soft as if they were freshly baked. I believe cocktails may have been available for purchase.
Initially I sat in the rows of chairs and later moved to the front of the boat since I love taking pictures. Definitely more unobstructed views from the front! I was even able to capture a panoramic photo.
Very educational tour!
Alida Paljevic
We took the architecture tour! The guide was fsntastic, the story about the city super interesting. Worth the money and time invested. Loved it!
Larry Brooke
Wonderful Cruise! Very experienced and knowledeable history teacher with a masters degree in history. Every detail about the cities history, architecture and funny stories made the cruise exceptional. Highly recommend!
Ryan Smith
I loved this cruise, they show you alot of the famous structures of the city and fill you in on how they were built and what they are for. They also teach you about the living structure of people there and how they build them. Pretty interesting!
Alexander Paulavec
Great boat and guide. Hot coffee and tea help to stay warm when it's cold outside. The only major downside is the metal frame over the main deck that obstructs you from taking nice pictures.
Lenny Pierce
We took the historical cruise . It took about 90 mins . The staff was all very friendly and helpful. The tour director was very informative .everything was great including the soda and snacks offered for free with the tour we did. I would definitely recommend it if you enjoy history or just as a chance to see chicago from the river. Thank you to all the staff and crew for the wonderful experience! !
Catalina Güiraldes
The highlight of our Chicago trip.
We took the architectural tour at 5pm on a beautiful day.
Our host was great. The tour gave us a new perspective on Chicago.
Free refreshments and cookies were highly appreciated!
Kurt Collins
Lived in Chicago all my life, cruise still provided fascinating new information. Katie (tour guide) was 6 stars!!

A must thing to do while visiting Chicago, you will have the experience to see and learn from these amazing buildings while on the river cruise. Great staff!
Lily Ball
Great tour! We did the architectural tour at night and it was very fun and informative.
Jordan Clayborne
This is an absolute must. The history and beauty of the architecture of Chicago is truly unique and captures beautifully by this company. Our tour guide was called Lynn and she was amazing, easy to understand and funny. Get to the port early to get a good seat. Free cookies and water was also provided. Also Make sure you go towards the morning on a good weather day.
American Pyro
Highly Recommended to do this Cruise it will inform you about all the history and culture of the Chicago River and explain what all the different architecture of the buildings mean.
Mari Fenili
We had a great experience. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and we learned quite a lot from the tour. The boat ride was very smooth and were very pleased that they offered free nonalcoholic drinks and delicious cookies. During our trip, it started raining and the cruise company provided ponchos for everyone! It’s because of all these little details that we would definitely do this again!
Phil Garnier
We took the 90 minute architecture tour. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and pleasant. She also gave out a lot of other facts and tips about the city other than just about the buildings. We were able to see a lot of the city from the boat. I recommend this tour for everyone.
Sammy Mastroianni
This was just hands down amazing and an excellent way of seeing the beautiful skyscrapers of Chicago from a whole different perspective. The River cruise was amazing and the host was so informative and interesting to listen to as you stare at these monstrous buildings. This is a must when you visit and take the later cruise as you get to see the whole city lit up when the sun goes down.
Whereisbecca
Great tour filled with lots of knowledge about the city's architecture!! Pictures came out great and it was a nice/different way to see the city is Chicago!! I bet the night time trip is amazing too!! Next time we are in town we definitely will be doing the firework tour!!
Candice Stylez
The tour of the city with this company is PHENOMENAL! Our tour guide was great she gave us so much knowledge about the city that you just don’t get from walking on the streets. The ambiance the crew everything just went hand in hand. Definitely a MUST DO!!!
Lisa Arnold-Dempsey
We were fortunate to catch this ride and the sun set. What beautiful Chigao architecture to see from the rive at night. My teen whispered it was better than being at Disney!!!!!!
David S
Tour guide was fantastic. Children 6 and under are free and 7-12 are half price. Refreshments and snacks were provided. Toured all three branches of the river. Total tour was 90 minutes. I would definitely recommended the architecture tour for anyone visiting Chicago.
Geoff P
The architectural boat tour is a neat way to experience Chicago. Would recommend doing it once. The tour guide was very knowledgeable...only thing is, it was way too many facts and would been nicer if points were more succinct. Could be just me. Overall I still recommend it as you can always stare at the sights instead of listening
Stefan Micic
Amazing crew, great cocktails and a route that goes thru the whole downtown and Navy Pier. You can enjoy the view and learn so many interesting things about Chicago!
We had a blast!
Dad Dad
YOU SHOULD GO!!! Tickets may be a bit pricey, but that shouldn't stop you! A great way to learn more about Chicago, meet great people, enjoy complimentary food and drinks, and learn more about the city, as well as take amazing photos.
J-Rocks!
We went on the architectural tour, our guide was informative and knowledgeable and we learned a lot, excellent tour, I highly recommend it.
Charles Williams
First time doing an architectural tour and learned so much despite living in Chicago. Highly recommended!
Grace Sotomayor
Fun activity that helped the whole group discover more about this beautiful city. The location is a bit more hidden than other companies, but the tour itself made up for it. While the tour was great, I think 90 min is a bit too much time for this (60 or 75 min is probably the sweet spot). They provide water, soda, lemonade, and cookies for free, and have adult beverages for sale on board as well (beer, wine, and some mixed drinks).
Overall, would definitely recommend it to other travelers.
JeneFa Joanna
This should be on the FIRST activities to do in Chicago! I LOVED being on the cruise. The tour guide was fantastic and i learnt so much about the city and it's magnificent buildings! Who knew there's a treasure house of history behind the looming skyscrapers. You gotta do this, you'll look at the surroundings in a different perspective after the cruise. :D
Stefanie W
Great tour would do it again cool way to see the city and gives you a better appreciation of architecture.
David Katibah
Fantastic tour with friendly staff and an excellent tour guide. Learned a lot and really gained some perspective on the city--also got some great views. Would highly recommend for anyone, local or visitor alike.
Vanessa Bertelli
Wonderful cruise along the river!! Amazing architecture. Staff very professional and helpful. Not to be missed if you are in Chicago
cove gallagher
This cruise taught me everything I needed to know from a tourists perspective about the beautiful city of Chicago. The staff was very nice and there is even wheelchair access.
Carlos Printe
I really enjoyed the tour. Great views and a very knowledgeable local guide that new the history and architecture of every building. The bridges are beautiful with their industrial rusty look.

Hello. I took a ride with chicago line cruises in one of the hottest day of april 2019. Excellent boat ride thought out historic buildings. Entire ride takes almost two hours and it is totally worth it. Our guide was a asian girl I guess named Katie with a great sexy voice at the point that I didnt want her to stop talking. Dream voice to say good night or good morning!!!
On the first level of the boat theres a bar where they serve free lemonade, iced tea, water, etc. They also have beers and wine for sale.
Add it to your to do list in when you visit chicago!!!
Christine J. Culbertson - Boyle
90 minutes on the river snapping pics of fantastic architecture and led by a knowledgeable tour guide.
Elizabeth Brady
Excellent experience. Our tour guide had a wonderful, informative and thorough presentation and everything was well organized and easy to enjoy. Nice complimentary food and snacks on a clean boat. Would recommend to any visitor.
Clare McKerracher
We had a voucher we purchased for a Go city, Chicago River cruise, no one could point us in the right direction, after going from place to place for 4 hours, we got sent here, the manageress didn't know who our voucher was for, she saw the state I was in, I have bad arthritis in my legs, she kindly gave us seats on their next cruise, as a gift, what a wonderful couple of hours we had, thank you Chicago Line Cruises
Chate Ruengruglikit
Good guide, free drink and snack at lower deck. 1.30 hours full of histories of each building.
hassan alnaqbi
Very nice boat trip with a very knowledgeable and informative host who showed us every part of the city and explained the architecture of the amazing towed in details
Robert Kulat
Very decent docent, she was very great. Staff on and off the boat was very accommodating. One of the guys even opened up the short cut to the parking lot at 505 Illinois. Very helpful for an old guy who has trouble walking. An overall great experience on a beautiful day.
Mark Winger
Great way to see all of the amazing Chicago architecture. The tour lasts about 90 minutes and covers 3 sections of the river. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and had a great, well paced delivery. I would definitely recommend.
Mark Mazzella
Great river tour of the Chicago skyline and architecture from the water side. Free hot chocolate and cookies too! A few bars to enjoy a cocktail or food right next to the boat along the walkway .... Roberts and Pinstripes.
Hovsep Sanassian
Amazing tour quide, interesting history & a beautiful way to enjoy downtown Chicago.
Jeremy B
Took the water taxi to Willis Tower. Great was to see the city from the river!

Awesome experience, fascinating and fun. I recommend the 8pm tour in the summer; you'll get to see the city in the light, during sunset, and at night!
Ken Mandel
Super tour, not too big a boat and terrific guide Lisa.
Jenny Gryczka
Very informative, amazing sights enhanced by the insights and knowledge of the wonderful commentary.
Yotam Barnoy
Took the architecture tour and found it very enjoyable. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable, overflowing with information about and love for her city. Chicago is beautiful and this is a great way to be introduced to this awesome city. Highly recommended.
Brandon W
Take the history tour narrated by Marshall. He’s a great guide for the 90 minutes and provides the stories behind, and sometimes beneath, the city.
Jennifer J
This tour was superb. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable. The architecture is amazing in Chicago and this is definitely a must do when you visit. We did the first tour of the morning at 10am to ensure it wouldn’t be too hot! I liked that this tour was smaller in size than some of the larger tour boats I noticed once we got out on the tour. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and there is refreshments on board. There is also areas on the boat that are shaded for those sunny days. Overall I have no complaints!
Colin Smith
They have extremely informative guides. Highly recommended chicago line cruises.
The free snacks and drinks are a plus as well.
Carissa Cooksey
Beautiful river ride....chilly but worth it. 10.29.20
Eric Sapp
What a fantastic and fun way to learn about the city of Chicago! The tour guide was phenomenal. I feel bad I don’t remember her name, but I did the 10am tour on 6/10/2021. I have a newfound appreciation for the buildings; I can’t wait to do the walking tour of the lobby buildings. Don’t pass this up!
Gaurav Hegde
Amazing experience. A very knowledgeable guide , great views and coffee tea and cookies ❤️✌🏻 …
Tony Buck
It was a crisp cool spring day. The sun was shining, and the boat was full. I hadn't taken it in years, but we had friends from out of town, and they said they loved Chicago architecture. We all loved it, there was so many new buildings, and some old favorites. The root guide was very knowledgeable, and funny. The boat has free cookies, coffee and hot chocolate. They also have a bar, but you know that's not free. The boat also has restrooms. The tour last 1.5 hours and is worth the price.
Keeping up with Atul
At first i thought it would be boring but We have enjoyed the tour. Our guide, she was extremely knowledgeable and funny. She is a history teacher and she made it seem very interesting. We got to know lot about the buildings and architecture in Chicago. Must do this if you are in Chicago. Many people who are from Chicago were on board with us. You won't be disappointed.
Olavi Torni
We took the 90 minutes architecture cruise and it was amazing. Our tour guide lectured us the whole time nonstop about interesting facts about the history of Chicago, Chicago's development and architecture. If you are at all interested in the history of Chicago or architecture, this is a great cruise for you. The tour suits all ages and the whole family.
Stacie Schroeder
We took the architecture tour on a cold November day and enjoyed the knowledgeable guide's narrative so much that we didn't notice the cold! I have a whole new appreciation for the Chicago skyline! The boat was very comfortable, easy to board and the cookies and hot chocolate were most welcome. The ticketing process was clear and efficient.
Jamie Barth
We took a 90 min river boat tour on a partly sunny day. It was a special treat to see the city skyline from the water. Our guide was excellent! For the full 90 minutes, she offered great facts and informative details about the various buildings we saw. Even though I live here, I look forward to making this an annual event.
Jasmine Langdon
Very friendly and informative staff when I picked up my ticket.
The cruise was a good length and the tour guide was very friendly and held my interest.
Complimentary tea and coffee was available. There were cookies though I’m vegan so didn’t try them (no egg and dairy for me!) but I think that is a nice touch!
Highly recommend them!
K H
The guide was entertaining, and I did learn some things about Chicago history, even as a local. With that being said, however, the boat turns A LOT. It was to the point that my poor cousin and I felt very queasy by the end of the tour. Not one of my favorites.
Raymond Francis Youell
Very memorable experience. I would definitely do it again. Very friendly staff, clean accommodations, beautiful views from the Chicago River. The guide or narrator was extremely knowledgeable and funny. He discussed architectural design and the history of the city.
Becky Brajner
Their architectural tour is hands down the best in the city! Their staff is really professional, fun and knowledgeable. The boat and seats are very comfortable. I've had the pleasure of being on their smaller, more intimate boat, and the larger one--both are great and provide superb, nearly unobstructed views of the beautiful city. I got TONS of great photos! Their tours are guided by extremely knowledgeable members of the Chicago Architecture Museum (or Society?). Our tour guide was super informative, engaging, witty, fashionable and surprisingly funny! She even knew some of the architects about whom she spoke.
As stated on their site, they offer complementary tea, Starbucks coffee, water, lemonade and cookies (or muffins) which are super fresh and delicious. I'd recommend this tour to anyone who's looking for a fun, informative experience learning about Chicago's rich history.
Mariia Stepantsova
Absolute must-ride for tourists as well as for locals. Be ready for some tan on a sunny day while on a 90-minutes ride.
Chris Smith
Very interesting tour. Ed was an awesome giude.
Adrienne Winterhelt
Our tour guide was FANTASTIC. The tour could have lasted 4 hours and she would still have stories to share. We enjoyed a bonus of fireworks. Evening tour was just as good as daytime. Luckily, we had lovely weather. ABSOLUTELY WOULD DO IT AGAIN as Chicago is always changing.
pavani G
Staff is very friendly , informative and above all that funny. His humor made the history lesson on Chicago captivating.
The ride was not too short or not to long so you will not get bored, our guide paused so we could take the marvelous buildings and capture pictures as well.
Complimentary tea ,coffee and lemonade were available on the boat are a nice touch.
There are alcoholic drinks for a price
Peggy Franco
Absolutely AMAZING way to see the city AND learn all about the architecture, history and see the view from the water!!! Worth every penny. Crew and guide were exceptionally courteous. Boat clean and such a lovely ride. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Chicago.
Haji Syed Hassan
Not sure about tour but price is competitively better. Offers free complimentary Starbucks coffee. When I arrived, they were fully book for rest of the day.
And the best part is that, they have a very friendly staff. I really like the way they treated us.
I will try their tour next time when I will visit Chicago again.
Moien Farmahini
Really fruitful, informative and at the same time fun cruise. I recommend it to all visitors especially people who like architecture and history of Chicago. Crews are friendly and welcoming. Hot Beverages and cookies are available during the cruise to help to stay warm at winter time.
David Silber
Great insight and the tour guides were extremely friendly
Sha ZHU
Fantastic experiences at the 6pm architecture cruise. A full 90-minute eye opening and breath holding experience with a very knowledgeable guide and super friendly crew. The tour was a rescheduling from May when it was cancelled due to heavy rain. Not only the staff promptly arranged the rescheduling, they also offered a complementary guest pass and a drink pass. Would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoy architecture.
Lisa Murphy-Tate
Good tour. Fast talking tour guide. Day was overcast but was still able to see the buildings. Kind of expensive but better architectural information with this tour line. Nice 90 minute cruise.
Dawn Labby
This tour was so amazing and informational!!
Kristen Portland
Excellent tour. Information and entertaining, with drinks and snacks included.
Kristen M Rees
The narrator was fascinating. She was so knowledgeable. I wish it had been a little more about the architecture and history and less about the architects. I know many people probably care who planned, built, and financed different buildings ... that group just doesn't include me. However, there were plenty of historical and interesting facts.
Monica R
Ed did an amazing job hosting our architecture cruise. He was funny and informative. I've never looked at buildings much, but taking the time to really just admire the design and craftsmanship that goes in to structures all around us was really nice. They offer complimentary drinks and cookies. I would use Chicago line cruises any day!
Jackie Tang
Very comprehensive guided boat tour! The tour is roughly 90 minutes or so, including building introduction, as well as corresponding history. With an open deck and a shaded lower deck, you have the two seating options. They also have a bar on the lower deck, providing complimentary water as well.
Jessica Diep
Must do here in Chicago. It's a great way to see the city, but also to learn about it's architecture and history. Book early though as it runs out fast, for good reason. We had to change our time slot suddenly due to scheduling issues and the staff and their customer service was awesome. Highly recommend!
Barbara Byrne
We did the 11:00 tour on a Monday Morning with Katie. Enjoyed it immensely! She is very passionate about the city's history and architecture, and it comes through with her tour. Katie talked for almost the entire hour and a half. It was very enjoyable and would recommend to anyone visiting the city as well as those living here. My husband and I have taken other Architecture tours and would recommend this one above all others. The docents do not read anything from a script.
Katrina Boehmer
Six of us ranging from 13-68 enjoyed our trip. The guide was very knowledgeable and funny. She told great stories and educated us all!
Elias Sharba
Nice and informative activity, smaller boat allows for better experience. The guide was excellent and learned that he has a degree in architecture. Highly recommended.
Lediona Canellari
Great experience although a little overpriced. Friendly staff and free cookies and hot drinks available on board.
Matt Thompson
Great views of the city that you can't get just walking around.
Stanley Lawson
Captain Crew very professional friendly made for a wonderful experience The narrator was extremely knowledgeable of Chicago building architecture and the history of Chicago One of the best tours I've taken a very long time and I strongly and highly recommend it!
Ayesha Zubedi
I and my sister had an amazing time at the cruise. Our tour guide was knowledgeable, funny and knew how to keep a crowd entertained while managing to make us appreciate the city and its architecture.
Hands down the best thing my sister spent and I spent our money on. The free cookies, coffee and lemonade were a plus!
Adam Hurley
My family and I took part in a 4PM architectural boat cruise with Chicago Line on a Saturday. From start to finish I was very impressed with the organization and especially with the tour leader - she was incredibly knowledgeable and definitely passionate about Chicago’s architecture. There is bar on the boat that serves complimentary drinks (pop, coffee, water) and for-purchase drinks (beer, wine, bar rail). Overall, I highly recommend this tour service!
John Miller
I was lucky enough to take the Historical Tour on Friday afternoon with a friend from out of town. Our docent, Deb, was absolutely fantastic. I was engaged for the full 90 minutes, and seemed to learn something new about Chicago or architecture the whole tour. I would recommend this tour for visitors to the city and those living here, as the Chicago Line tour taught me things I had never previously known about Chicago. The complimentary snacks and refreshments were a great touch! There is no other option for boat tours in Chicago, this one is the BEST!
Brenda Shacks
Relaxing experience, complimentary Coke product/Lemonade/Tea & Coffee. The guide was well informed about the background and structure of the buildings, this was also a great way to find other places to hang out, walking distance from the Pier.
Matthew Bean
My wife and I went on this cruise on a 90 degree day. The staff took excellent care of us during the tour. Plenty of water and juice was available. Our guide was great and a lot was learned. Definitely would tour with them again.
Soapy
It was an especially crisp and windy day, but I couldn't have asked for a better cruise. It wasn't too busy or too big, so to me the boat seemed more personal and inviting. The actual cruise in itself was lovely, easy to hear and full of interesting facts. The staff were warm and inviting, and don't get me started on the wonderful selection of free refreshments. The hot coffee and teas especially hit the spot that windy day. Remember to bring well-insulated clothes, though, especially in the colder months of the year.
Bre Kruger
My family and I have spend a lot of time in Chicago, but this week was the first time we tried a river cruise. Chicago Line Cruises was the perfect choice. They dock at the lovely and quiet Ogden Slip and the boats are "vintage" but in great condition and beautiful. The complimentary coffee/tea/soda is a great perk, and the staff was kind and knowledgeable. It started to rain and there was fog, but we were offered ponchos and they worked to keep cover overhead and our seats dry (And the moody weather was gave a fun sort of drama). The guide pointed out notable restaurants, parks, and attractions, several of which we went to visit later in the week. We'd recommend for tourists and experienced Chicago travelers alike.
Jay Joshi
Really expensive, but really good tour. Nice boat with refreshments and coffee. Tour guides are knowledgeable and answer all your questions. The route of the tour is extremely comprehensive, and you disembark with a better appreciation for the city and the people who live in it. Well worth it.
Khalid Aun خالد عون
Highly recommend if you're in Chicago, it's a great way to learn about the history and architecture of the city and relax as you enjoy a sweet ride and complimentary lemonade and cookies. Tour guide was very knowledgable and friendly.
Devon McDonough
Loved this tour! The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and had a personality... she didn't just talk. Just make sure you don't go when its under 60 degrees as it does get a bit chilly... no sun at all then entire ride because of the buildings!
Monica Amado
Love this tour!! I will do it again and again!! I have a lot of family that comes to visit from all over and I always take them on a river cruise. I have to say this is the best one. Only issue is that there's a lot of walking and standing. Closest garage was two blocks away. I'm handicapped so it was a bit of a struggle but the staff and all involved with the company was more then patient and understanding. I will come back with my out of state family anytime!! Highly recommend it!!
James Downey
Considering that a Chicago River cruise is considered one of the best things to do on a short visit to the Windy City, and that there are about a hundred different lines to choose from, Chicago Line Cruises stands out from the rest in its professionalism, cost for families, and perks.
1) Adult passes are a bit more expensive than the next cruise line, but kids are free, and coffee/juice and cookies are provided. So you actually end up paying less.
2) Docent was very entertaining and knowledgeable on Chicago history and architecture without being cheesy.
3) Staff was very friendly to us and my kids.
4) Multiple convenient departure times from a location right off Miracle Mile.
Fetesha Downs
Every time I have a friend new to Chicago in town, I bring them on the Architecture Tour. The pricing isn't bad for the city and it's a great introduction to the city--even if you're in town for a short while. Tour guides are always entertaining and insightful about any questions you may have.
Jean-Francois Desjeans Gauthier
I did an Architectural cruise at 10:00 on Saturday. It was simply amazing. The docent was not only very knowledgeable, but had great insight and stories on every single building around the river. The boat goes at a perfect speed to take all the pictures you want, and last around an hour and a half which I thought went by quickly. If you are visiting Chicago for the first time this is a must see. They also offer cookies, muffins and coffee which were decent. Price wise, I paid 43$. I thought it was slightly pricy, but given how good it is I'd recommend splurging on the expense.
Manjula Mathur
Chicago Line Cruise tour taken on 24th July 2016 in Chicago river amidst high rise buildings was pleasurable. 75 minutes commentary provides detailed historical perspective of difficulties faced by architects due to very adverse environment of Chicago. The aesthetics of skyline is spectacular. The hospitality of Cruise staff is nice. The awesome tour is a must for travel and architectural enthusiasts.
Carlos Fernández
Can't compare with other cruises since it's my first one, but I really enjoyed it despite of the rain.
The speaker had perfectly timed the boat speed with his own speech... it was 2 hours non-stop of information and stories around Chicago's most famous (and infamous) building. I recommend it.
Gunther Luken
My wife and I took this cruise based on Groupon, and were not disappointed, 1 deck boats seem small compared to other companies, but we liked that, complimentary soft drinks and lemonade made everything easier and more personable, just, the bar staff could pretend to like their jobs as opposed to just get paid! The deck people and tour guide were wonderful

Very informative, and interesting trip. I learned several new things about this beautiful city. Although I did feel the tour guide was a bit biased and the political views can be left at the dock. Even though it was a chilly day I'll come back and do this again in warmer weather.
Erin Bach
We went on the late night architecture and fireworks cruise. Our guide Shawn was extremely knowledgeable about the city, was funny, easy to listen to, and answered all the questions thrown at him with ease. This is definitely the best way to see Chicago!
Jordan Calderon
Must for visiting friends and family
Jennifer Herrera
I used a Groupon and felt the price was pretty great ror 2 adults on a 90 minute ride with free lemonade, coffee and cookies. The tour guide was very informative but there were some obvious buildings he didn't address. Please bring sunglasses or you may not be able to see the 1st half of the 6pm tour because of the sun glare.
Jerri Sartore
We would never have had the appreciation for all the beautiful buildings in Chicago if we had not booked a cruise on the Chicago Line Cruises. It started sprinkling and the crew immediately passed out rain ponchos. We loved it!
Sid Bratkovich
Mr Ed, who narrated our architectural cruise, was great. He knew his facts and, more importantly, knew how to share them without sounding like most tour guides reciting facts.
I grew up in the city and was amazed by the changes. If you haven't done this in the past 15 years, you really should take this trip.
Russ Z
Affiliated with the Chicago History Museum, take it from someone who has been on every river tour several times over the years, this tour is hands down the best of the architectural river cruises. Professional tour guides that are Chicago Historians (so tour not scripted) who engage cruise goers from start to finish with their dynamic narration that includes both history and architecture!!!! The whole organization is a class act and they are committed to delivering a first class tour, outstanding hospitality and they are priced right for families (refreshments included and they offer children (6-18yo) and senior discounts and under 6yo is free!) THE BEST river tour available!!!
Simon Faliks
We went on a jazz cruise. Sunset time is the best for a cruise on a Chicago river. Excellent performance surrounded by sublime views. At least half of the audience in this touristy venue was local - it must tell you something...
Rhonda Coley
Attended the 6pm cruise last Saturday! It was a wonderful experience with lots of interesting facts and tidbits about the early builders in Chicago, where the name comes from, and the history of the "balconization" of it's buildings. My grandsons and I had a very memorable afternoon!
Sheryl Reed
Even in the rain it was a great tour! Lynn was a great guide full of interesting information! Loved her! Would take the tour again.
Nicole Smith Daniels
This cruise/tour was amazing! Our tour guide talked nonstop for the whole 90 minutes. She knew so much about so many of the buildings. Best way to see Chicago.
Suzanne Bloomer
Amazing tour. Docent spoke entire time, very informative and interesting. Snacks and drinks were fresh and plentiful. Great experience. I recommend it highly. Even members of our team who had done it before learned new things.
Mayank Saxena
One of the best ways to enjoy the Chicago River is through a cruise. The guide on our boat very knowledgeable. He narrated the details of every building on the way for the full 90 mins, non stop.
They served refreshments as well. Tour started on time, and we were back exactly after 90 mins.
Well Worth the price paid.
The location is conveniently located close to Navy Pier, and there are many options for Street Parking as well.
Carrie Gofron
Great tour, crew was lovely and so knowledgeable and we had the best weather!
Benny Moran
Terry the tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the buildings.
Sue Bushong
Our tour guide provided amazing architectural information along with lots of Chicago history. Highly recommend!
Josh Busch
This is a great way to celebrate a special occasion! The ride was smooth, the guide really knew her stuff, and of course the buildings are beautiful. It gave me a new appreciation for the city.
JIM FREEMAN
This is an excellent tour that covers the main channel and north and south branches. Our guide was very knowledgeable, pointing out buildings, the architect and history of the buildings. Refreshments included lemonade, ice water, coffee and excellent cookies.
Justin Jacob
Went on a tour for our first anniversary and it was a great way to get out and see the city! It was very thorough and the docen kept talking from beginnign to end. Make sure to score the free cookies and coffee which are rather excellent!
German Garcia
My family came and visit from out of town so I bought some tickets from Groupon for the Architecture Boat Tour. It was AMAZING!!! There was plenty of seats with great view even though it was packed. They had complementary N/A beverages, water and cookies. The instructor that was telling us about the Deco and Architectural facts of evry single building really knew her stuff. I was born here in Chicago but I still learned knew things about the city that I never knew. Highly recommend this Boat trip through the Chicago river.
Michele Dunning
Though we took the cruise on a miserably cold, windy day, our tour guide, Mr. Ed, was topnotch. He was very informative and really knew his stuff. All the staff were pleasant and helpful, and we had a good time.
Kevin Pustz
Guide Marshall was amazing. The Captains were fun and very talented. The entire staff was kind and helpful. Awesome tour
Amanda Tanner
This architectural cruise was AMAZING! My dad and I took this tour on a beautiful, sunny day in Chicago. The tour was super fun, most informative, and all around a great way to see Chicago in a nutshell. HIGHLY RECOMMEND the architectural cruise with Chicago Line Cruises.
Peter S
What a fantastic experience! The tour guide was very knowledgeable and funny. I've been on many tours and this one was one of the best! The free coffee and cookies were delicious as well!
Jessica Estevez
Absolutely beautiful and the tour guide was very knowledgeable. Free refreshments. A must even if you live in the city. See and learn something new each and every time.
Sky Tech
Somewhat informative. Good angle-perspective. I like architecture, but it got boring 4/5th of the way. The boat was surprising stable - as if it weren't even on water, and quiet - no "buffeting?". The tour guide have a BS excuse once, so, idk how believable they are, but, luckily, the information was general enough that it wouldn't really matter.
S A
It's a fantastic informative cruise through the city canal. The guides are very knowledgeable and make the 2 hours funny and not boring at all. Our guide talked nonstop for 2 hours. Very organized and the city is beautiful. Worth it!!👍👍 …
Warren Jones
Architectural tour is a relaxing method to explore the landscape of downtown Chicago. Free beverages and light snacks are offered. A tour narrator pointed out building and their history as we sailed along the 90-minute trip.
Peter Marks
Lovely way to see Chicago. Guide was very informative, but the style was a little annoying.
Kunal Patel
My Mother and I enjoyed the lovely architecture cruise on the river. The cruise guide provided ample information about what we were seeing and shared the best angles. There was complimentary cookies and juices. The staff was very friendly and even let us board passes the cut off (we were running late from a flight). We had to take our Groupon tickets to the main desk, before boarding. Make sure to redeem the Groupon vouchers on Chicago Line Cruises website before going to main desk. The main desk is about 200 feet past dock area, if you're coming from Wacker Drive.
Jacqueline K.
Money well spent. Saw different parts of Chicago from a different point of view. Can be chilly so bring a jacket. Judith our tour guide was great!
Nora Young
We had a very enjoyable tour of the city. Our guide was great and gave very detailed information about the buildings and history of Chicago.
Erin Maxim
Such an awesome experience! Chicago Line Cruises is hosted on what feels like a traditional sail boat rather than one that looks like a barge, making it feel authentic. The host narrator was spectacular at her job!
Fal Hen
The architectural footprint and history of chicago all in a 90mins dive
Miraz Pirani
Great tour guide, Awesome views
Absolutely worth it!
alyce phyall
The magnificent dulcet explains Chicagos architectual history in a fun filled adventure through the lake. The magnificent skyline is one of the many views of the tour. A must see and must make sure to bring a camera, while stopping for lunch along the way.

We started the cruise tip on sunny day around 2pm in noon. But still due to winds,we felt shivering.Winter protection is must for the trip if you are planning before summer,if at all it happens in Chicago☺️.Ride was for 90 minutes.Tour guide was very much informed about the places in and around Chicago and gave many insights into architecture of the buildings in Chicago starting from century old to recent buildings. It was wonderful and memorable experience overall.Complimentary snacks and coffee were provided during the trip.If you want to see the beautiful skyscrapers of Chicago, you must take this cruise trip.
