Reviews of Independence Visitor Center

My first time in Philly and I had the most AMAZING experience. I’m glad I visited the Independence Visitor Center first. Best decision ever!!!
I enjoyed watching a virtual tour of the city in the National Park Service Theater. Very insightful and it made locating tourist attractions easier. I also purchased the most lovely travel memento at the gift shop. I highly recommend this as your first tourist destination if you are visiting Philadelphia for the first time.
It’s a must see

Recommend heading upstairs to the balcony level for free, panoramic views of Independence Hall and the Philly skyline. On this visit, we discovered that the Center offers an excellent short video about Independence Hall's history. There's also a small interactive exhibit for all ages that celebrates famous early Philadelphians. The Info Desk staff will assist in arranging tours and giving directions. It's also worth a stop to see the 2 Philly history murals by Mural Arts near the parking lot entrance.

Good! And, at a time, the only bathrooms open! Nice second floor balcony to see independence Hall and the park. You can buy tickets, tours and take the kids for a small hands on bit of history. The touch screen maps tell you what’s open, times and all. It was useful to stop there. They have a couple of short movies that help me organize what I want to make time for while in Philly. Worth it!
William Olmstead
Liberty bell, beautiful park, statues, gift shop, history, and much more! Visit the independence visitor center to enjoy our nation's history.
Emily Selmer
Awesome visitor center! I got my National Park Passport Stamp and a few pressed pennies. Very cool building, lots of information about the surrounding sites (Liberty Bell, Independence Hall).
Cody Weikel
The Visitor Center offers a large gift shop, museum and history aspects, food, seating, and very nice restrooms. The facility is beautiful and well maintained and is walking distance from all other attractions.
Linda Duncan
Great photo opportunities and lots of cheap souvenirs. I also like the movie that told you about Philadelphia. Would have preferred some new food options but overall very good

Had a amazing time at the Bernie Sanders union rally last Saturday. Beautiful day too, people were out. The unions turned out, people supported, really was a amazing day. I appreciate the teamsters, CWA, and everyone else that showed up!
Ethan Lindstrom
Great spot to start your visit to Independence National Historical Park. There is information on the park and about other activities in Philadelphia.
You can pick up the Junior Ranger booklets here.
The visitor center has bathrooms, a gift shop, and a Cafe as well.
Maria M
They have a great gift shop. Its a great stop to make a break after visiting the bell of liberty. Staff is most welcoming and friendly. There are maps and restrooms.
Robbie Robinson
It had been many years since I’ve visited this park or the Liberty Bell. This visitor center was very impressive! I enjoyed walking through the halls, seeing the merchandise, enjoying the exhibits, and simply enjoying the atmosphere. This center is a nice place. The underground parking was very easy to access and navigate. A very nice and interesting place to visit.
Wade Williams
Very nice and organized visitors center with a gift shop, restrooms, national park service area, and restaurant.
Sherry R. Goff
Visitors center was very nice everyone there was extremely helpful.
Noreen McAneny
Hadn't been there since before COVID. Lots of great souvenirs and helpful staff.
Only thing missing were the pimple balls!! Every time I've gone in the past I grabbed a few but there were none to be had this trip
Tommy Taylor
Across the road from the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. Huge gift shop, everything overpriced. Clean public bathrooms, cafe, theatre.
Robert Carinci
The visitors center is a big open structure with a gift shop, a small café, restrooms and a place to watch an informative video. The place is bright and welcoming.
Matthew Arthur-Gray
What a fabulous and well-informed place! The park rangers were so knowledgeable and able to give recommendations and historical facts. I’d definitely recommend this to be your first stop in Philly. Parking is a sensible $20 for on-site parking.
Sarah J
Beautiful visitor center! Bathrooms were clean and the gift shop had a nice selection of things.
Anupam Dhasmana
Good place to learn the understand about the history of USA....kids and adults both can enjoy and enrich their knowledge.
Brenda
A very nice put-together visitor center with a lot of cool souvenirs as well. Visit here first before taking any tours or going across the street to Independence Hall. There is a lot of information and helpful hints to help your site-seeing journey through these bits of our country's historical beginnings.
Fred Alluso
The Independence Visitors Center is a great place to get all the information you seek regarding tours, events, places to eat, shopping destinations and much more.
The amenities include seating areas and restrooms. You can also purchase light snacks, coffee and beverages. There is even a very nice souvenir shop located inside, albeit a bit more expensive than it should be.
Among the information booths you will find a National Park Service booth offering information on local destinations.
Randi Steffler
Lots of great resources, helpful and friendly staff (they gave trading cards to my son, which he thought was so special!).
shanika w
Very nice place! went for Wawa National Hoagie day! Pre 4rh of July kick-off
Jacque “Jacques” Paris
Staff were very knowledgeable and friendly. Bear in mind there are no reservations required for the Liberty Bell. When you book a tour - it will be for Independence Hall. Stop and smell the history - the conflict that must have powered and overpowered the Men of that era. Apply what they went through to present day conflict. Not much difference. The power of the pen lies with our power of the vote regardless of your party or view. Take in the history so that the same mistakes nay not be made again.
Tri Nguyen
Very friendly, helpful and professional workers here with any info you need for your day visit Philadelphia city , clean place and there is some stores if you need break or snacks. Good times was there!
Kendra Studer
Very cool experience! Could use a loud speaker for the tour guides so you can actually hear the speaker. Tickets go SUPER fast (enen though it's free) So pick them up ASAP at the information center. It's about 30 minutes total. Very informative as well.
Adrianne
The Independence Visitor Center was a god send despite it being the obvious first choice to look when it comes to suggestions on what to do in Philly.
We went and drove to Philly from New York on a whim last minute, and when we arrived, a lot of government facilities were closed and couldn’t tour Independence Hall and such because of the government shutdown. So we were at a loss on what to do.
Good thing the center was open even with the shutdown so we got great suggestions on free and paid things to do around the area that were open and operational.
anon ymous
Really interesting place. Really well put together informational displays with artifacts, and even a show near the end. Plenty to see. But I think It could use more historical pieces not just reproduction pieces.
John Junge
Watching video helps you understand what you are seeing at Independence Hall
Sean Houde
Honestly, the best thing for my visit was the air conditioning. Needed the chance to cool off. The root beer float helped too.
Bobbie H
My mom, son and I visited the Independence Visitor Center. It had a lot of helpful information about Philadelphia.
Jennifer Liddle
Very nice Welcome Center! Two different movies (one historical, one city overview), a tourism counter where you can buy tickets to many attractions, a Park Ranger desk with an exhibit, a cafe, shop, and very nice and clean restrooms. If the second level is open on the day you visit, go upstairs for a lovely view!
LANCE SAUNDERS
This is where to line up to get tickets to see Independence Hall. Get there when it first opens and you’ll be able to get the tickets and time you want. It’s worth it. The tour through Independence Hall is amazing. To think of what happened there and how lives would be different had those who were there not had the courage they did. An amazing tour.
Sanjay Gupta
nice to know about 1st United States Postmaster General”
Philadelphia keeps the same importance as Boston in American independence history. and their downtowns are almost similar. Franklin court was in our checklist of Philly and it did not disappoint us when we get to know how Mr Franklin started post office, how he lived there. Remains of the old house are still preserved and well maintained. The old path which Mr. Franklin used to take to reach his house, is still in use. See pics for more
Donna Fernandez
This is a large building with a fun gift shop, information desk, place to get tickets to visit Independence Hall, large, clean bathrooms and more. There is a cafe here, but it wasn't open when we were there.
Everyone who worked there was really helpful and friendly.
You can get maps, brochures, and arrange a variety of tours here, too.
Elizabeth Kingsbury
Make this your first stop in Philadelphia... tourist info is second to none..staff very helpful & informative.. take the guided walking tour... one of the best!! Liberty Bell is housed here & although there was a lineup to view it, there were some great displays and visuals to make the time go by fast.. Highly recommend!
G L
Great location. Parking right next to it/under it, price for parking is a bit high but half the price of others in the city. The place seems well funded with cafeteria, gift shop, restrooms and helpful, friendly and knowledgeable staff. There are a few exhibits. You get the free tickets to Independence Hall tours here.
S Mukherjee
Great! Very helpful staff. Here guided tours to historical areas of Philly are available and also you can get tickets for the hop on and off sightseeing bus. Staff is multilingual and I saw English and Spanish desks featured prominently, Im sure they support other languages too. I saw a guided tour of the Liberty bell being conducted for and in Chinese.
Highly recommended. Please do visit.
David Lawrence Scuderi
Nice place to get off your feet for a few minutes.
Snack bar and souvenir shop.
Very clean and modern restroom
Romy Coers
Loved visiting the area. All the rangers were extremely knowledgable and helpful. The visitor centre has public toilets, wifi, airconditioning and seating areas available which was very helpful throughout the day. Definitely recommend visiting!
Robin Faehnle
The Museum did not disappoint. From the Rocky statue and steps to the rich artwork and delicious food. This is a beautiful museum.
Daniel Peden
Great Place didn't know was free tour with videos of the highlights of Philadelphia and Surrounding areas as well as an Event Room so Fascinating with a Great View
TAC AUGUST
Clean restrooms. Theatre room has info show. Souvenir stores to browse around.
Nice AC inside.
Shin Kim
Two times here.
Frankly speaking, there are not many tourist place in Philadelphia.
If you are traveling in Philla, it is the place to visit in order to the history of U.S.A.
But if you don't know the history, it would be a little bit boring place.
Kerry Smialek
Great , the gift shop was huge and the people were very informative!
Elizabeth Bernal
Great public parking lot with easy entrance/exit. There are a number of interesting displays and demonstrations going on inside, as well as plenty of helpful information for visitors. The bathrooms are modern, and very clean. This is a good starting point for your visit to Philly!
Stephen LaGuardia
Well organized information center. Recommend early arrival as independence hall tickets are often out by 11-12. Small food kiosk, clean bathrooms, great although very crowded souvenir shop.
Stewart Wattson
Look at these clean bathrooms! This was towards end of day on a Sunday, Summer weekend- typically a time hit hard by tourists. But the staff kept it sparkling clean. Their sinks also include faucet and hand dryer in one! (Se pic in other review. Unfortunately I only have video of this wonder.)
Great free movies of all the local places of interest in a roughly two block radius- nice for when you rather just stay inside in A.C. than be present at historically important places.
Amy SK
I visited twice during my week stay in Philadelphia. The centre is a great pit-stop for some air con, clean public bathrooms, wifi, and a water bottle refill. The staff at the information counter were so helpful in helping me navigate the city with tourist recommendations. They recommended the museum of the American Revolution which was not on my list of places to go but I trusted their recommendation and had a great informative time there! Highly recommend their advice. They also had lots of maps available to scribble one which helped with directions and recommendations.
Nate Waite
Lots of things to learn here. Very nice variety and kind of a fun gift shop too.
Maureen Rose
Wow!!! Just an amazing place to learn all our History. His Story !!!
Nicole
What a fun place to visit to reconnect with your American Roots! The gift shop is GOLD!! I wanted to buy everything. Ask to be checked out by Daniel Washington the talented story telling announcer!!
Peggy Lamberton
Highly recommend visitors coming here first to discover all the fabulous historical places to go, and to buy discounted tickets. We loved the professional, knowledgeable concierge/docent (at the circular kiosk) who helped us August 2 at about 11am.
Julie Frigm
Unfortunately I do not remember the lady who was so kind and helpful to us. My husband and I brought our 3 grandchildren to Philadelphia to do site seeing.
We started our day early Wed. 8/10/22 at the Independece Visitor Center. I can not say enough on how kind and helpful the lady was that gave us some great ideas for kids. We purchased the double decker bus tour, Franklin Institute, Betsy Ross House, and National Constitution Center.
We ended our day at the same place that we started, the visitors center and just getting off of work we ran into the lady that helped us at the start of your day. She room the time to talk to our grandkids of how they enjoyed their day. I thought that was so nice if her. I really do appreciate her for her interest and kindness she gave us. That experience really warms my heart and puts a smile in my face. Best employee award in my opinion !!!!! 😊😊😊😊😊😊
William Andrews Photography ASMP, PPA
There's always so much going in there and the events I attend are great and mafmde greater by the venue.
Brad Crump
This is where you'll go to get your tickets for tours you're taking later in the day. There's a coffee shop, tour vendors, clean bathrooms, warmth (very important in winter), and a rotating exhibit. I'd suggest you meet up here and use the restrooms before queuing up on line to see the Liberty Bell.
Angie Messner
The people who work there are very nice. They give you information about stuff in the area. You can also buy tickets for different tours around Philly. There was also a girl there who told me and my family a story. There is different people dressed up. There is also a little museum there.
Bronson Stephens
As a venue it is fantastic, great views from the wrap around deck. The main level feels sort of sterile and mall like. That said the grounds are beautiful and overall I'd say it's a pretty good place to check out.
Richard Broadbent
Just enjoyed a fascinating walking tour with our guide Sarah. Exceptional knowledge delivered in a fun engaging way. Highly recommend you join along to discover the history of the birth of America.
M. Jay Hilano
Located across the Liberty Bell.
Clean bathrooms available.
There's a souvenir shop and small Cafe.
Nice place to eat and relax in between historic sites.
Christy Ashlene
It’s a very clean place. They have used latest technology tap in the restroom (automatic wash & dry using the same tap).
Milton Farr
The bell is cool, even if it's a little cracked:)
Li S
Lovely, modern, clean, accessible space!
Bathrooms are clean!
Matt Peppes
Great place to come if you need help planning your day’s activities and sightseeing.
Shalima Simó
They were super helpful, the place is nice and clean. We got tickets to Independence Hall, we got there at 10am and got tickets for 4pm. Tickets go fast, so go early or you won't get them.
Julia Loehlein
This is a lovely visitor's center. Great gift shop, nice staff, clean bathrooms and a place to rest your bones. There is an observation deck upstairs with a great view of Independence hall. Nice photo op opportunities and a place to get coffee and a snack.
G Aquino
It’s easy to spend an entire day in this place and its immediate vicinity, checking out all the historic buildings and visitor attractions and learning about their history.
chris2004x
We enjoyed Hershey's hot cocoa on a cold day. We also stenciled words on a small bit of Liberty Bell replica and watched a free short movie about Philadelphia's historic past. And, used the bathroom :)
Sondra Knight
Get information and maps for around the city! There is also a gift shop, bathrooms and Hershey Ice Cream! New to the city? The Phlash bus is definitely worth it to get around and you can buy tickets at the information desk!
Susan Williams
Really nice visitors center with lots if interactive narrative. Big gift shop. The information desk was helpful and informative. Be aware, masks are now required in all federal indoor spaces in Philadelphia.
Shannon Raynard
Very clean and had a nice amount of historical information as well. The concession stand was VERY expensive.
dino bot
Live show was good. Statues the signing hall were fun but, I felt that the price was a bit high.
Dragon Plays
Great place to buy Philly souvenirs. And they have a clean restroom.
Christa Mason
Wonderful. Very good exhibits, helpful staff.
Excellent gift shop (something for all pricepoints)
R S
Fantastic historical data on past US history, great for the kids. Be prepared for information overload.
Fredrick Omondi
This is the Excellent place to learn, understand and appreciate the contribution of the Founding fathers in the creation of the US!! Very insightful
P. O.
A must for all history students!
Epstein didn't kill himself.
Julia Gao
It has a free secure charging station! You lock your phone in with your phone # and a security picture; it's quite secure and a lifesaver. There's lots of resting areas, benches, and a cafe. I bought an amazingly cute bald eagle here for $20 on sale (4/5/2017)!
Robert Rakowski
Great and clean place however queues are super long even on week days
dennis dennis
Clean, huge, and informative visitor center. Learned a lot of historical event and information throughout my time there.
Venugopal K
Had the opportunity to visit this centre during my stay at Philly as a tourist. My sincere advice is that visit to this centre should be foremost, as all the information of tourist importance are available here. The historical importance of Philly could be seen in the theatre. The film is very informative in the amphi theatre. Guidance on booking entry tickets to various monuments, bus ticket for guided tour, pamphalets of important places, Philly map are available. Starbucks coffee and snacks available. A store to buy momentos like miniature liberty bell, magnets, Tee Shirts, Umbrellas, stickers, images of rocky, Philly art museum, rocky steps , key chains and many gift items from local artists etc is on the ground floor. It is located just opposite the Independance hall and near to liberty bell monument. Please spend atleast an hour's time which will be beneficial for planning Philly tour.
Ashani Hettige
Bustiling place to learn all things "Independence". You can munch on snacks to sandwiches and attend documentary movies. Have great rest rooms and very spacious, and its the only place to buy Independence related souvenirs(we got a little magnet of Liberty bell from here) and good thing is there are plenty of parking spaces across nearby streets(paying depends on the time). And you can pose for a pic by the Philadelphia sign inside!
John De santis
This it's a heart of all of Philadelphia tour, over here it's a huge parking lot where it's very cheap to park $14 all day, the place is very nice and very clean over here you need to go together free ticket to visit the Independence Hall, the ticket are closed number first you got there and for sure you got a ticket usually by 9:20 they all finish I suggest you to get them from internet the day before, here you can buy all the souvenir that you want
Ramamoorthy V
Nicely organised with brochures detailing the important places of interest near by.
Cathleen Thomas
Great place to start in the historic district! Has all the maps and help you could need, along with the added convienence of clean restrooms and small refreshment stand and souvenir shop! I was impressed!
Sara Beth Wade
Very helpful staff here - I had a nice chat with Sam while getting a bus pass. There's also bathroom, a gift shop, a movie presentation, and a national parks counter. If you have questions about anything in the area, they can help you out here and give you a map and ideas.
The Critical J
Nice visitor center for this type of area, they have bathrooms available, gift shops, and a information desk. Located right in the middle of the city it's the first stop to make when you visit here. Very clean and the staff is nice too
Joseph Santos
Good slice of American history. The center has parking, a gift and coffee shop. It leads to Independence hall and the Liberty bell exhibits.
Todd Porter
The Rangers were knowledgeable, interesting, and enthusiastic.
Ken McIntosh
They have video telling about various historical sites in Philadelphia, as well as friendly staff and rangers to assist with finding places and providing tickets.

BcOneSeven
Clean and beautiful! Parking nearby.
Cosita Linda
Great place to buy souvenirs and get info
Chuck Benslay
The Visitor Center was very helpful to us. We were able to get maps and discounts to several exhibits. We ended up doing the 2 day all inclusive pass and it was well worth it. It is very convenient to the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall and the Constitution Museum.
Gerard Rose
Very clean, and information. Good bathrooms, maps of the court, and the Park Rangers address set up here. Probably the best place to start the visit, and get your bearings. If you have kids, visit the rangers, as they have a program especially for them. You can also grab a snack or something from the souvenir shop. They also had a movie going off some sort, if you want to sit and rest for a bit, and enjoy some history.
Jen Jump
Amazing. Filled with information to learn the history of the bell. It is well taken care of.
Lyss
A welcomed reprieve from the heat with lots of great facts, info, stores, and a bathroom.
Glenn Stucky
Was a very interesting place to visit was glad that we went and checked it out.
Solace T
So, I tend to get emotional at historical places and this was no exception.
Maria James
It's always nice to visit this area tourist are from all over the world they seem to really enjoy visiting the Liberty Bell even though I am from Philadelphia I enjoy it as well.
Rob Nagle
It's a great visitor center compared to many other cities visitor centers. What's really nice is that it's very well staffed by helpful employees as well as national park rangers that are very knowledgeable. They have multiple maps in multiple languages to help you around the city. I also recommend that you take a moment to watch a video on Philly in the visitor center, it's pretty neat and not too long. Also, this is where you can get your free tickets to go inside independence hall.
John Smith
Standard visitor centre with focus more on gift shop and café than on the history and artifacts, which was disappointing.
Janessa Palmer
We were impressed with the management of it all. The space and atmosphere itself was very open and welcoming despite being busy with people.
We arrived ~11am and quickly got our tickets for the Independence Hall tour. You pick them up HERE at the National Park Service desk and meet AT THE HALL for the tour later. Could be confusing, but worked out well for us. Also, the tour is free, you just need tickets.
There's a nice gift center here, as well as a lot of visitor center information.
Bylu Wertheimer
It's a beautiful and comfortable place for people who like the American history. And even for little kids.
John Howard
Very friendly and informative crew.
Mary Ann Raymond
Museum displays were very politically oriented before you reach the actual bell. Guide at the bell itself was excelleny
Kirsten Barnes
Great place to get oriented with the city and figure out your plan for the day. We stamped our National Parks Passports at the check in counter and picked up our tickets for Independence Hall. Great bathroom facility here that was large and clean and a very good gift shop.
Rachel Rijnders
Clean, informative and very conveniently located with parking below.
Sarah Comfort
Great clean bathrooms. An extremely overpriced gift shop ($50 T-Shirts!!!!) The walk up process for tickets to Independence Hall was a huge bummer, I tried to reserve tickets online and it said walk up only and for our size group the only tickets available were 5 hours out. It's a beautiful building I just wish they would've allowed the ticketing to be done ahead so we could have planned better.
Jenni Preece
Ellie was very helpful, we could tell she loves her job. Our first time to Philly, she made it a great trip! Everyone friendly and helpful. We are from the west coast and will visit again. Bathrooms clean.
DoomeStrings
Gift shop is nice. I'm not sure about the rest of the place.
Anne Grimmer
Great resource for first-time visitors. The t-shirts in the gift shop are way overpriced($30). Be careful- the ladies' shirts run small. I normally wear a medium so I bought one and it's too tight. Now I'm stuck with a shirt I can't wear since I live in FL.
Randy Labatte
Very large and comprehensive. You could actually spend a couple hours in this place alone. They have a Philly film that plays on repeat in the theater that will show you many of the cities attractions. Also, there is a couple places in here to grab a coffee or a quick bite to eat. One of the better visitors centers that I've seen and I definitely recommend that you start here if you're sightseeing in Philly for the first time.
Adilson
Top Place for visit
Michael DeCarlo
Just had my daughter's wedding here! Wow what a PERFECT event! Amazing staff! Excellent food! Beautiful event space. You can't go wrong holding a celebration here.
Timothy Yeung
Nice little refuge when it is hot out or you need a clean bathroom to use.
Amber J
Great place to start if it's your first time here. Very helpful. You'll find Brochures, maps and information provided on anything and everything. If you're looking for somewhere in particular they'll point it out on the map for you and make it even easier to navigate.
There's a gift shop with shirts, key chains, magnets, the typical tourist stuff. So be sure to check it out.
Highly recommend you stop by Hershey's for a treat on your way out. Great cookies and drinks. They also have a little gift shop area with chocolate themed gifts with a Philadelphia twist.
Sterlin Ruther
History fanatics and tourists will love this place, especially considering it unbelievable low admission fee of $0.00 - for the most part, anyways. The museum and everything there is to see, including tours, will cost you absolutely nothing. The gift shop is also pretty rad with variable items at reasonable prices... The food, however, is definitely their way of making money. $3~ for a soda, $7~ for a sandwich? Hopefully you ate ahead of time.
Sonal Patel
Great History.
Well organized.
Mya Matos
Perfect location for your tour of the area. Clean and stocked restrooms, lockers, friendly staff. I definitely recommend coming here and letting the great staff assist you with planning your time in the area. Tell them how long you have and they’ll help you customize your experience. Wonderful experience. You should definitely start here!
N Meier
This should be your first stop in Philadelphia if you are a tourist. Great spot to learn what is available for tours, museums ...and more. People here were extremely helpful. Liberty bell is straight across the street as well. Fyi, this is where you pick up tickets for independence hall tours. Come early in the morning!
Kevin Judd
Nice and cool. The Rangers were helpful. You need to get tickets for the walking tour of independence hall and they go fast. Tickets are free but the number of people is limited. The line for the liberty bell is generally long. The parking prices are very high. If you get there early you can get get parking for around $15. This is a phlash stop so that might be an option. If you park all day. Bathrooms nuce and clean
Beth Billnitzer
The staff at this center and the National Historical Park really treated our family well; and the tour guides at Independence Hall were so helpful and knowledgeable. These are people who are in the right jobs for their skills and temperament. Even the guy on register in the gift shop was attentive and positive. An overall very positive experience.
Craig Parker
Very helpful, the people who were working are out going, friendly, and inviting. They made it fun for our 11 year old who did not want anything to do with the trip. There is bathrooms, handicap access, well lighting, and information on the walls.
Kenneth Strom
A lot of history and information, employes very helpful and informative.
One young kid was very informed of the history in the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the events that happened prior to the signing. He also very informative about the men who signed the Declaration of Independence
Building is beautifully designed, easy access for handicapped. Only complaint is the air conditioning was not working.
Andrew Gustavson
Incredible place to visit the site of some of the most important events in American history. I have been twice. First time the Parks service guides were great. Second time not as knowledgeable and somewhat arrogant. Not the best combination. New guides might be better.
Beth Mercer
The rangers are super helpful. There are clean bathrooms, a cell phone charging station and safe parking. There is also a cafe. Where you can get lunch or a snack. Parking here as well is safe and easy. All the people that worked here were friendly and helpful.
Betty O
Great place to start your visit to historical Philadelphia. The tickets to the bus tours and other attractions around the City can be purchased here. If your are planning to visit the new Museum of the American Revolution and the Constitution Center they have discount combo ticket for both museums.
Karl Chase
There's lots to do here and most of it is free, although parking is a bit of an expense. This is an important place to visit to reacquaint with the tenets that our country was founded on as it seems many of our current government representatives have completely forgotten. The national park service has a great program for fourth graders that grants a year of free access to all national parks for them and their immediate family and you can register at the visitors center...also available on line.
Dottie Raudenbush
Parking garage elevators bring you directly to the Visitor Center. Places to eat: Hershey's chocolate, cheese steaks, coffee. Nice restrooms. Nice gift shop, not too expensive. Helpful information staff, free maps of the area, colonial period dressed people playing music, reenactors drawing Betsy Ross's house, free movie about Philadelphia and area. Great place to visit. Within walking distance of so many historical buildings such as the National Constitution Center, Liberty Bell, Congress Hall and Betsy Ross house, Christ Church and a lot more. Just wonderful to take a tour or sit and relax on the mall (grassy area).
Christina Wieser
Nice staff, all you need in there and you get all information you need and can buy tickets as well. On hot days it is also recommendable to cool down again 🤣 The shop has really nice and high quality souvenirs so it is worth it to habe a look. There is also a Rocky Balboa statue if you didnt get the chance to male a photo at the stairs, you can male it here 🥳
Suz Lusi
The best things All Things Philly!
Deidre Sims-Dill
Stopped by during the Hoagiefest to pick up info on Lancaster County. Extremely crowded with people trying to stay out of the heat. The young women behind the info desk were very pleasant and helpful. Best place to secure info on events, attractions, etc., in and around Delaware Valley. A definite go-to if you're having company & want to find great places to take them. The new Hershey food venue looked great but too crowded to try! Will return there soon
Carmelo Giuseppe
I enjoyed my experience. Lots of information on current events and places to explore
Michael Grotemat
Very helpful, clean, with a very nice souvenir shop
Dyne L
Free tickets to the Independence Hall can be acquired here. Clean bathroom also available.
Axel Müller
Nice visitor center in Philadelphia. At the information desk they even help you to find a hotel/accomodation in the city.
Kind and helpful staff!
If you need information about Philadelphia and its tourist attractions, you will most probably find it in this Independence Visitor Center. And you will get answers to all your questions regarding Philadelphia.
It's recommended to walk in, even if you just want to look around.
Come in & find out!
Michael Bennett
Nice clean restrooms. There are some gift shops here. You can also get tickets and information about other Philadelphia attractions. There are many photo ops here on the grounds. Parking can be tough. There is an underground garage across the street.
Steve P
Best part of all of this: It's free! Now of course, you'll have to pay for gift shop items and food items but that doesn't compare to the free amount of cool knowledge that awaits you inside the visitor's center. Tons of historical information and exhibits, and it is location within walking distance of many other landmarks and restaurants and bars, so it's the perfect addition to a visit to this area of Philadelphia. Only downside I'd say was locating parking.
Nora English
Loved it and really educational. But you got to climb all those stairs and they are not wheelchair access neither. Which means no ramp or elevator for people who can't walk up and down stairs. I have no problem walking upstairs but going down stairs is a problem
Jacquie Walters
This place is awesome and a great first stop on your Philly history tour. The NPS staff are so friendly and knowledgeable, the bathrooms are large and clean, and the gift shop has something for everyone.
Rhonda Usry
Beautiful, informative, easy access.
Arvind Rajagopalan
So very fun! My 2 sons got all of these awesome trading cards with the park rangers. They also learned a lot, did scavenger hunts, and earned their junior park ranger badges.
Chris Towers
Love the national parks and learning about our history!
JackieP Spence
They give discounts and they have an awesome gift shop
K C
The best visitor's center I've even been to! Huge space with a small theater playing a fantastic short film highlighting things to see and do in Philly, a large gift shop, and lots of stalls in the bathrooms.
michael xu
The best place to rest during the day. There are lots of tables and chairs by the information booths at one end, clean bathrooms and water on the other end. Theres even a phone charging station here! This place is amazing. There's also some historical stuff here too and a gift shop, which is cool to look at.
Rebecca Rene`e
Very convenient. You can buy tickets to pretty much anything there (carriage rides, tours, buses, etc). Also has a hershey's kitchen in it as well as multiple squished penny machines. Very overpriced.
hiker ponc
This is the place to pick up tickets for Independence Hall tour. The rangers are very helpful. The bathroom is clean. The sinks are a bit confusing. The faucet and the hand dryers are attached. The two sides are for hand drying and the middle is for water.
Sonal Patel-Sheth
Informative and well created learning space, I wish the National Park Rangers did a better job of involving the children during our visit. I TRULY respect and LoVE the national park Rangers I have met at more than 20 locations on the east coast, but this visit I did not feel their passion for the work they do. (Ofcourse this is not for all there in Philadelphia, but many) I want to believe that it might be due to a busy summer and we were there on Labor day. I would like to go back and learn more about our nation's history. Definitely worth the visit.
Kevin Williams
Great to see American history in its glory
Javier Gutierrez
The Rangers at the Independence Hall visitors center are incredibly helpful. I visited the main desk to get my stamps for my National Parks Passport, and the ranger on duty told me about the many other ranger guided tours you can take while on your visit. I wanted to give special thanks to Rangers Rick and Ray. Rick took me on the steps of our Foubding Fathers, and told me the relevance of all the historical points of interest. Ray gave a fantastic tour of Bishop White’s house. My experience in Philadelphia was so much better thanks to their help!
Emma Clarke
Some cool picture ops in here! There was a statue of Rocky. There was also one of those 3D Love signs written out. They also have a small gift shop with American souvenirs and many things about the Mint. Public bathrooms are available as well! Can’t beat that.
Stephen “Chewy” Hanna
You have to go here to get tickets for the Independence Hall Tour, so it is a must stop. During the day there were characters roaming the halls or with stations set up to discuss the times in the 1700s. Air conditioned, bathrooms, and Philadelphia souvenirs. All in all, not bad.
Saket Ram
If you are visiting the city, this is a good place for you to start your visit. There is a lot of information, and it is very cool. The bathrooms are clean, and the staff are very helpful and informative. It is moderately crowded, especially on weekends.
Holly Boyle
The visitor center is a nice clean place to stop. Has restrooms and information. This is also where you pick up free tickets for Independence Hall. Right across from the Liberty Bell.
Zaccaria Dickerson
The park rangers were really helpful and factual about the structures, time period and events going on around the area. There was also a neat gift shop inside.
Laura Zifer Powell
I highly recommend that the Independence Visitor Center be the first stop for visitors to Philadelphia. There is underground parking (not free) and easy access to the visitor center above, where you can get free tickets to Independence Hall, brochures, maps, and information about the city. You can also sign up for walking tours, use their clean, public restrooms, refresh in the air conditioning, and shop at the gift shop. It is also very close to Independence Hall, the liberty Bell, and the (highly recommended!) National Constitution Center. I'm so glad I went here first. This will surely be my first stop again next time I visit the city.
Doodle Girl
This must be your very first stop when touring Philadelphia
You’ll get all the maps, all the defat of latest events and attractions, good commute options like phlash and while grabbing a warm breakfast.
The independence hall tour was closed when I visited due to government shutdown but you can catch a nice documentary there and the tour too when it’s open
Justa GoodOlBoy
Honestly the best place to start your Philly experience. Here you can grab something to eat, grab some gifts and souvenirs, there's a couple theaters that play some awesome audio visuals of Philadelphia as well as the fine folks of Independence NHP to help with any information as well as help you get your tickets, maps, and everything to ensure that your time in Philadelphia and the Old City are memorable.
Douglas McDowell
Wonderful experience, learning about our country, and how the liberty bell came to existence
M C
Many goods you can choose!
Frank Gioffre
If you are sightseeing in Philadelphia and are interested in our country's history then this is a mandatory stop.
The crowds can get hectic during heavy tourist times but the tour and information gained is very good.
Karina Salinas
This isn't your usual National Park Visitor Center, Park Rangers weren't as friendly or helpful compared to others.
Patty Penna
Nice touristical complex. Go with available time to go around and watch videos and learn about history. It's the best place to start touring if you are not that familiar with the american history, so you can go after in the Liberty Bell and Independance Hall.
Erik Covert
Beautiful building and great gift shop after a day at all the Independence attractions
Ash
I went here for the first time today to check out the new Hershey's stand. I was impressed with what was in the building. A nice amount of history that residents and tourists can check out for free.
Erica Morales Combs
Visitor Center is currently undergoing construction. There was still a ton of useful information found there and the only bathrooms in the whole park. At least they were clean!! Prices are high for touristy stuff.
Kush Patel
Pretty good info center. The location is centered to the main attractions so its Nice's to take a break from walking between sites too. Decent enough tables and chairs to sit down and have a bite.
Steve Shelby
Amazing experience a must see if the subject interest you!
Darina Doyle
Really cool visitors centre with friendly staff who are only too happy to help you plan your visit. Great gift shop, wide selection of tat and a really cool Rocky stand thats perfect for a quick photo opportunity.
Matthew Dietzenbach
Great place to start your trip in Philadelphia. This is where you get your Independence Hall Tickets. You can get your maps of the area. If you have kids stop buy and get there junior ranger magazine.
Samantha Landzettel
This place was absolutely amazing. Lots of history and knowledge!!!
James Davis
They've done a great job on this, and the information shared here is just splendid! I really want to give my gratitude to whomever was acting as Ben Franklin on Sunday, 2/14/2016. It brought some joy to my eyes to see a re-enactment of him, and it really blew my daughter away when she got to take a picture with you! It's something she'll cherish when she gets older!
I plan to visit again!
My only complaint: Parking prices are absurd, they should be lowered, for a few hours, we paid $18.50 (I think?) for one vehicle... I thought that was a bit crazy. Otherwise it was a great experience!
Rahul Dhawan
Awesome place to visit whenever you are in Philly, it tells you all about the great history of United States of America in great detail, you will be amazed to learn so much about the United States at one place itself, do watch films which are showcased at the center also at different times, definately worth visiting
Lina Rivas
The visitor center is right above the underground parking garage. This should be your first stop if you are a tourist (like us). The staff at the visitor center has a lot of information on tours, places to visit etc. and can help you plan out your day.
Darren Brown
Plenty for the kids to see and do. Book your tickets to Independence Hall online a few weeks in advance to avoid missing out on. Otherwise some tickets are available first thing in the morning but best to line up before it opens.
Jasmin Hollywood
Really nice family oriented educational experience. Such amazing self guided tours with interesting facts about American history , President George Washington and the slavery in America etc.
Keith Larson
Really friendly staff, beautiful area, and people visiting from all over the world. The liberty bell line was long so I couldn't see it. Also, get tickets for Independance Hall early as they run out quick (but they're free).
Shakura Bey
The best books at souvenir shops
Kathleen Seibel
Clean, bathrooms were excellent, lots of great information
However the information staff person said we could buy tickets at cost or cheaper there
One ticket was at cost, one ticket landed up being 2.50 more per person
A service fee was charged and on mondays tickets were 2.00 cheaper on site
Staff person also was not friendly
And seemed impatient with our questions
Angela Hou
Good tourist center near Liberty Bell/Independence Hall area. Lots of helpful pamphlets and maps. Also a souvenir shop inside. This is also where to go to get free timed tickets for Independence Hall tour.
N10 Fit
A small welcome center with two gift shop areas, a Rocky statue & Independence Mall.
Pathway4electronics Enterprises
Oh my God. It's a memorable visit for my family. And, I believe every citizen of this country needs to visit. It's not just the birthplace of America, but a place of education and for intellect minds to learn from about the oppression and liberation of black people
Nick Cvetkovic
Often take advantage of the clean restrooms(Sign on the wall: Even the germs are history here.
Good information from the Park Rangers and from the IVC Concierges who sell attraction tickets as well as giving great advice
Michelle Whitlock
This place is located in the center of the historic area. Easy to find (if you live thru the traffic nightmare). Very helpful staff. Very clean. You should definitely stop in for info, direction and yours.
Lynn Vinson Raybon
Go here first to get tickets/time for Independence Hall Tour. Then you can go to the Liberty Bell exhibit on your way to your tour. Saves a lot of steps!
Sunitha Ratnakaram
This is the place from where mega buses would leave for Newyork and dropped back from there. It's very near to the subway line. Buses would stand on the opposite side of this centre. Though the name is not visible from the road following directions will make us reach easily.
Jim Shaw
We visited Philadelphia on our way back from the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina. The staff here were incredibly helpful. Don't forget to stop off here for free tickets to the Independence Hall tour!
Shawnna Mcmichael
Gift shop little pricey. Smash a penny for $1 in visitors center. Huge bathrooms so you dont have to wait in line. Needs more brochures on attractions though.
Nelson Cintron
Gift shop has a variety of souvenirs to purchase, also the snack kiosks has a good assortment to choose from, a little pricey, but delicious all the same.

Park staff is very helpful and explained the various sites in the Independence Hall and Liberty Bell. Arrive early to get timed ticket entry to Independence Hall. Better option is to get one of the tickets up to 10 pm night before your visit. Park makes up to 40% tickets available this way. Site is recration.gov
Tina Doobay
Nice souvenirs but quite expensive. Need more items for toddlers such as t shirts. And always had great sayings on shutters for adults, but not this year.
Susan Hall
Parking garage was a little tight for a Yukon suv. Exhibit was great.
Leathie McIntyre
Wonderful so much to see and learn from the past and present

Samantha Huynh
Bathrooms are really clean, water fountains are clean, and the building is overall very well taken care of. Only downside is the absence of a changing table; it’s literally just a granite countertop.
megan ross

Ted Phillips
Huge welcome center for tour groups. Very impersonal - but they have good bathrooms and it is the only place to get tickets for some of the sites. A necessary evil...
Andrew Dumboski
Great starting point for the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. It's excellent for information and has a couple of short movies to watch. There's a food court inside, but beware it's very expensive.
