Beautiful place to stop for a break and stretch your legs. The restrooms are clean and the view is spectacular! Plenty of info on Maryland located inside the Welcome Center along with coupons! There's a place to walk dogs and playground for the kids. FOR THOSE DRIVING A TRUCK - one of the few places you can exit to use the restroom since there are nearly no truck stops around!

I feel a little silly doing a review for a rest stop, but it felt warranted bc of how nice this one is. Fir off, the bathrooms are the cleanest I have ever seen at a rest stop, by far. I hope that the custodial crew is well appreciated because they do an excellent job. Also the bathrooms here are huge with plenty of sinks and they even have a second overflow bathroom in case it gets busy as well as a handicap/family restroom outside of the women's and one outside of the men's main restrooms . This rest stop also has a very nice playground for kids (I'm talking and all out playground, not just one little toddler swing or something....). It also has an area for walking your pets and an indoor information center with maps and other info about the area. There are plenty of parking spots for cars, a vending area, as well as a nice sized parking lot for trucks. Last, but not least, if you catch it at the right time of day there are some pretty spectacular views here as well. Definitely far exceeded my expectations of a highway side rest area! This is one of the nicest rest areas I've seen, and I've seen a lot. It sits back from the interstate and there is a row of trees blocking it from view. There are picnic tables, though they aren't covered. There's a nice playground for kids. The bathroom is big and smelled like a pool, which is not my favorite smell for a bathroom, but it's not the worst. There is also a welcome center but I can't speak to that as I didn't go inside. I saw some vending machines, but I didn't look at them closely.

Incredibly courteous and polite staff! Plenty of parking, vending and toursist info.The location is super convenient... Kudos to the all the staff/s for keeping so clean. We will definitely return again and again and again! The only negative is the access in can come up quick (Southbound). However, would still give more than 5 stars if possible.

Very clean rest stop. Easy to get in and out of. If you are looking for information on Maryland they have tons of it. The staff working at this stop are very pleasant and courteous. There are vending machines and tables. There is also play area for the kids.

The playground and welcome center are nice, but there is no indoor lobby outside of the restrooms and the vending machines are located outside. If you need to wait nearby for a family member's safety, for someone who may need help, or to use a family restroom, you'll have to wait outside. The temperature was in the teens when we were here, so it wasn't the most pleasant experience.

Definitely one of the nicer rest areas/ welcome centers I have seen so far, the restrooms are definitely clean and well maintained, they have a nice little exhibit of the history of the state of Maryland as well as historic information and maps.

The facilities were nice, clean, and well maintained. The only knock I have is they don't have paper towels and the air driers are weak. They do have a playground and room to sit and hangout for a little while. Great place to plan a stop.

I don’t normally review rest stops, but this place was weirdly pretty, so here I am, reviewing it. What do you know, guess there’s a first time for everything!

After a long road journey of over 5 hours, this rest area was like a true oasis in the hot desert. It was a nice, neat and clean place with a beautiful play area for kids. The most important thing was that the cleanliness was given the foremost priority over there. We really enjoyed a short stay there!

Great rest stop but my goodness I almost ruined my car breaks pulling into this rest stop! It has the most awkward entrance. You're going downhill on a very busy highway, then suddenly you're told the right lane ends and you need to merge, so I sped up and merged thinking I didn't want to slow down to miss my chance, and boom! The entrance ramp for the welcome center totally comes out from nowhere and I had to hit the brakes so hard to be able to make it in safely to park going 65 to 10 mph was not ideal! You've been warned lol otherwise the rest stop itself is great! Gorgeous views, nice and clean toilets, great and helpful staff for all MD brochures and booklets! Definitely worth a stop if you want to find all kinds of info on MD. My advice to you is if you're pulling in to this rest stop, ignore the merge sign right before the entrance otherwise you'll be ramming it down the entrance of this rest stop. Weird road systems in this location.

Literally, half of the urinals were broken and the inside the men's room door was gross. Other than that it was clean and there's a lot of interesting information and an information center, vending, plus easy off and on the highway. So it was okay.

Restrooms are clean and there are vending machines on site. The visitors center was closed during the day so I assume the covid policy is to keep it permanently closed for now. Water fountains have a metallic taste to them but work fine.

The stop was precisely when we needed it, the buildings were bright, the bathrooms clean. The only thing that would have made it better would be if the center had Monday hours, but I understand why it wasn't open (who travels on a Monday, anyway?) I did like seeing the historical information on the walkway and info signs--Maryland had planned to teach people about the state, even if the information center was closed.

The area was unbelievably nice. Bathroom were clean despite the larger amount of traffic it got. The gift and information shop was good as well. Can't say I'll keep coming back, but I'm glad I had this on my route!

Off-Grid Mountain Adventures

This is one of the coolest rest stops I've ever seen. What a massive map of the state in the window that is awesome. An information booth to the side that is digital is pretty cool. There's a playground for children that has a lot of stuff for kids to do. Ordinarily clean bathrooms and nice vending machine options. Besides the fact you're in the mountains with that fresh air this is the place I would stop and rest if sleep is needed because it's much cooler due to elevation then the Midway rest stop

I travel the route with some regularity and South Mountain Eastbound is always on my stop list. The facilities have been clean each and every time I've stopped; the grounds are clean, and overall it's a relaxing place to be. At night, it's nice and quiet making it easy to get in a quick nap.

I was actually wowed by this rest area. On the inside, it was huge, with lots of clean stalls. On the outside, it was SUCH a nice place to stop and rest during our 14 hour drive. The had a playground, which the two year old loved, even though it was great toward much older kids (5-10ish). They also had nice walk ways/paths (complete with doggy drinking fountain), and picnic tables both in the sun and in the shade. I was impressed that they even had wheelchair-ready picnic tables.

More truck parking would be a huge plus, but other than that great place to stop and poop, restrooms are big, and usually smell of bleach (aka clean) and they have real toilet paper here not the wax coated stuff that doesn't work like most places

Awesome rest are filled with historical monuments, effigies, and historical information. Lots of space for walking, great clean are outside as well as clean facilities that are ADA compliant. Gotta be the Best Rest Area I've ever pulled in to use, ever.

A large rest area with lots of parking and excellent facilities, always clean, a nice walking path to stretch the legs and various historical markers documenting the region's Civil War history. All in all am excellent place to get off the road for a few minutes. It does have a large manned visitor's center as well, open during the day only.

I was expecting just a regular rest stop. I was amazed at how clean it was and how big the restrooms were. The landscape was also very well kept and I loved that it has a play area so my son could get out some of his energy before we got back on the road. Very nice all around

This is a great location for a rest area heading East on I-70. It's not too far from Baltimore and much easier to make a quick stop than at the I-81 and I-70 exits that take you WAY out of your way to find a restroom or place to walk your pet. The parking lots are large; there's a great play ground; there's plenty of grassy areas to walk your dog and picnic tables to eat. They have nice historical displays, separate buildings and very large restrooms. I'm actually being somewhat generous with my rating based on my last visit and I may edit this after future visits because we travel from PA to the BWI airport somewhat often. My biggest complaint is that the restroom smelled bad, and the soap dispensers were empty. It wasn't that busy, either. It wasn't filthy, but definitely not worth a 5 star rating. You are always going to do better to stop well out of Baltimore because the traffic is usually a mess. Perfect location.

Restrooms were open. I saw a sign near the Welcome center that read, Maryland we're open for business. The Welcome Center was closed at 11:45 on Tuesday morning. Things that make you say Ha!

Do not use the vending machines I put money in it I had no product I push for my money back they give me $.50 I put two dollars in it so somebody’s a thief I watched another couple put their money in one of the vending machines and got nothing not to me the change back
