Reviews of Crain Memorial Welcome Center
This is a nice rest facility. Lots of good parking close to the building and the facility is well taken care of. There's a very friendly visitor center there also. Rest rooms are very clean.
Tidy welcome center with a nice view and space to walk your dog. There is also a store that is open during the day inside the main building.
Staff at the center were very helpful and considerate. Our battery died, personnel stayed with us while contacting AAA, very friendly offering coffee and warm place to wait. Just want to say thank you to all of them.
I always stop here when I travel from VA to PA. It's a smaller rest stop, but it is clean and well maintained. Nice dog walking area and several picnic tables and trash cans outside of building.
Very well maintained for its longevity and quite scenic surrounding.
Nice facility. Wonderful volunteers with lots of helpful advice. An electric car charging station on site.
Two of the loveliest people helped us and were just wonderful!!! Thank you
If it is your first time visiting the state of Maryland and you are traveling on route 301 North then this is a great spot to stop and learn some quick information about Maryland. They have vending machines and restrooms here and not to mention a really cool windmill that helps generate power for the welcome center.
Very clean and nice staff. Also had two EV charging stations on site. 👍 …
Amazing gift shop with super helpful staff. Browse the free touring materials and get all your travel questions answered. I stop here every trip…even if I know where I’m going and don’t have a question.
Very friendly staff ready to answer any and all visitor’s questions. The bathrooms are clean and in good working order. Nice visitors center.
Route 301 is a great way to avoid the mess of I-95, and this little welcome center just over the Nice Bridge on the Maryland side is a nice place to stretch your legs, grab a drink, recharge your electric vehicle, and use the facilities, which are always spotless.
Downside is the limited hours of operation. Unlike interstate rest stops, this one is not open 24 hours.
Very clean and safe. A good place to stop for bathroom breaks.
small welcome center at just the right location. one family / handicapped bathroom is available in addition the the men's and women's facilities, and Maryland tourism info
A welcome spot for a break from the highway. Gift shop, clean restrooms, vending machines, and friendly staff always ready to offer directions to your destination. Dedicated parking for RV and travel trailers.
All over this country rest stops are fantastic especially to older people...
When I can find them I always thank the people who take care of these places...
I usually give them a small tip in appreciation for what they do...
Many times I tell these people I wish I was really rich
I'd send them to Hawaii in appreciation!!
They smile
And say they would take the tip to Hawaii...
Not a bad place to get a little information and take a break from traveling. Restrooms were mostly clean, better than nothing and the staff tended to be on the rude side. Tho being from the south it may have just been our perception.
This is a Rest Stop and it was exceptionally clean and nice! It's a small one with Vending machines.
Convenient and clean rest area for folks on MD 301. There are picnic shelters, a dog area and clean indoor restrooms and visitor services.
Great stop and a nice place to walk around and have a picnic.
Excellent welcome center. Lots of information and the staff are so friendly!
Beautiful grounds but the bathrooms were pretty grimey. Access from Southbound 301 was a bit tricky
Nice and clean travel rest area... you learn something about the state
Great rest stop and can learn alittle history when you stop.
Great restroom before going over that scary bridge
A very nice welcome center. Super friendly staff.
Restrooms are amount the cleanest on us rt 301.
Hardly anyone using this great place.
Very clean but parking is very limited for campers and dog walking is opposite side of trailer parking. If your pup has to go badly and your parked in trailer area then you still have to walk through the area not for dogs and trust me they are not going to make it! Lol. Beautiful place
Always clean restrooms and beautiful. Always a stop on our travels. Have picnic tables for a picnic lunch. Trees usually block the wind most days. Interesting info inside when open. Love to watch the wind turbine while eating.
Clean, plenty of parking, plenty of restroom stalls.
Always clean, after 24 years of stopping, multiple times a year. And a safe rest stop. Staff is very helpful and friendly.
Not much to say. The bathrooms were clean and well-ventilated. We didn't go into the Welcome Center part of the building.
The building was locked & bathrooms closed on 8/28/20 - looked like it's been that way for a while so if you're looking for restrooms don't stop there. There is a decent-sized field behind the building for walking dogs.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Well stocked with brochures covering eastern Maryland.
Welcome center hours don't match what are displayed online.
A good place to stop on road trips. The bathrooms could be just a little cleaner, but over all, a good stop.
A perfectly placed rest area. Clean, nice views. Has an electric car charger (level 2)
Stopped here on way home to Ellicott City. Very nice facility with clean restrooms
Rest stop open but welcome center is limited days. Sign said find maintenance if you need to use ATM, no maintenance in sight. Halfway clean.
Friendly, helpful and clean. Great place to stop
Be aware - open only 6AM - 6PM. Restrooms and a small, staffed visitor center.
No bathroom access after closing.
Great people maning this site... Sharon and Charmaine are the best... Helped me, immensely, during a very stressful situation... They were able to find and point me in the right direction... They went above and beyond the expected.... Thanks Sharon and Charmaine...
A nice place to stop rest rooms, a visitor center, doggie park!
Very clean, helpful staff.
Very helpful staff..absolute a must to stop off going into Maryland and getting travel info. Very clean restrooms, nice quiet area. Very peaceful..nothing like getting off an interstate rest area..much better.
A great place to pee, etc. Dated but clean.
A very nice and clean Welcome Center, both inside and out. Picked up some lunch at a drive thru and my friend and I say a a picnic table and enjoyed each other's company.
I use this rest stop Everytime I take 301 to or from Virginia. It is easy access and clean. I really hope access to it survives the new bridge design.
There were two ladies there at the Rest area.Mary was very nice I don't remember the other lady's name. They gave us directions home.
Not the friendliest place we’ve been to, restrooms were okay, but not as well cared for as you would hope.
Surprising stop on the way home from a whale watching trip to Quebec. A huge fossilized whale skeleton hangs in the lobby of this modern visitor's center.
The rest rooms were clean and there was plenty of parking, including four pull-through spots for RV's.
A sign invites guests to bring their picnic inside if it is too hot outside. The lady behind the counter explained the local story of the ancient whale and even gave us a postcard. Much nicer than freeway rest areas, we will make it a point to stop here again.
Just over Patomic River Bridge on Maryland side.
Hours 6 to 6. Due to Covid19 only the bathrooms and grounds are open.
Visitor Information Center is quite good when it reopens.
Nice.place to .stop use.rest room.walk your. Dog take.rest
Absolutely a clean stop area with plenty of parking. Getting across the road to go south is a little tricky
I stopped in to pick up a few brochures to learn more about what Maryland has to offer. There are many to choose but the staff is very knowledgeable. They can offer insight into local food, shopping and directions.
Very clean and well maintained. Sharp right turn off 301.
Very clean welcome center. Very friendly staff.
Quiet, not staffed for visitor center during Covid. Clean restrooms with on site maintenance personnel. No vending machines.
Nice, helpful and friendly staff here. Clean restrooms, free charging station for electric cars and a wind turbine. Nice area for pets. Pretty cool!!
Nice stop as crossed over into Maryland from Virginia. Clean rest rooms & good pet area to walk the dog. The Information Center closes at 4:30p.
Great place to stop and freshen up
I want to give the maintenance crew a big thank you for keeping the facilities clean and in order. This is always a nice rest stop when driving along through MD.
Very clean and convenient, but the soda machine will rip U OFF.
Has restrooms. Clean. Charger for your electric car. Too bad we don't have an electric car.
Was there to visit for funeral as we lay my father to rest a really beautiful place for veterans to be laid to rest with honors military go all out for the veterans
A friend and I went into this clean visitor center and pretended to be from out of state. I asked the lady behind the counter, "If you could only visit one place in Maryland, what would it be?"
She told us about several places, "Twin Kiss, right up the street on the left. Point Lookout, at the southern most point of St. Mary's County. Durham Church, in Nanjemoy... many more then ended with Old Town Annapolis." She was nice and very knowledgeable of Maryland, but especially Charles County, which the visitor center was in.
The local literature was bountiful and up to date and it's all free. As we walked out with a free map of Maryland, we told her that we were from Charles County and appreciated her knowledge of our county.
When we were leaving, we noticed this strange apparatus in the parking lot, with more inspection we figured out, that this was charging port for electric cars. COOL.
Nice place to visit
Friendly staff. Lots of local brochures.
There may not be many other places one might find that is more suited to have the quintisential stop-and-smell-the-roses experience. On the Maryland side of the Potomac, its facilities are imaculately kept. There are clearly designated areas for pets, smokers and others who have been yearning for miles to stop, though not necessarily to "smell the roses." As a welcome and info center, the library of informational pamphlets stewarded over by, literally, a welcoming staff could imbue one just a few minutes a sense of having paused at a resort's lobby. Finally, barring inclement weather, it would be sad to pass up a free and public engeneered to impart relaxation and respite to shave off a mere few minutes on whichever, longer journey of yours that had your vehicle due to do a lightning round on the potty?
Lastly, don't forget to sign the guest book. Each signature continues the case (and, therefore, funding) that it IS serving the public with exellence, and that one would like to see it continue its good work in, G-d willing, perpetuity
If so inspired, check "other" in the column of "reason for visit," and writing in the line, "#SmellingTheRosesInMD"
Very scared of the lack of cleanliness of the restrooms. Fortunately we have Lysol wipes for the shoes.
Great stop to walk my service Dog Damian.
Small but tucked back off the road. Nice place to stop and eat out of your packed cooler.
5 stars for the electric vehicle charging station alone. Kind and helpful lady at the welcome desk gave me maps of the state and other attractions.
Quick rest stop with clean restrooms
Nice rest area with a very nice staff.
I drive by...I live near there, but I am pretty sure they are CLOSED now due to New bridge construction .
Friendly Volunteer staff WHEN they ate open.
Google maps made a Boo Boo
Clean and the welcome center is beautiful, very friendly staff
Always clean whenever I travel I stop there.
Has EVSE to recharge electric vehicles. Restrooms only open when visitor center is open. Really should put it on a sign, restrooms only open during hours.
Beautifully kept way station. Full service tourist information center with illuminated displays. Doggie runs, picnic areas, shade 😊 …
A nice quiet place to catch a breather after a long stretch of stop lights and traffic in southeastern Maryland. Good place to enter Maryland, and a great place to leave it.
Clean facilities. Very helpful staff.
It stayed open reasonable hours for the Holiday Rush. A great place to grab last minute gifts. And a great place to shop overall.
Very clean facility. Variety of vending machines for snacks & drinks. They also provide area maps, sightseeing pamphlets & a gift store.
Nice, clean bathrooms..not a bad stop
Very good place for a rest stop. It has vending machines for drinks and snacks.
Pretty nice and convenient for a rest stop
Just stopped to check on my AC. Didn't go in. Easy pull in/pull out but not much trailer parking.
Clean and safe, just wish it was open all hours for restroom availability. Only open from 6-6
