We had a fantastic time and learned so much! Our guide Christian was a wealth of knowledge and kept us engaged the entire time. Very unique and memorable experience!!

This is truly a wonderful experience! I had zero knowledge of foraging and hoped to at least be able to identify a couple of types of edible plants by the end of the hike. My expectations were beyond exceeded. Upon arrival we were greeted by our sweet guide and she made us feel welcome and comfortable even though we had minimal knowledge. We then were given baskets and tools to collect our finds with. From there the guided immediately started identifying and explaining a variety of different edible plants and fungi. After awhile we were given time to go off our own to forage anything we thought might be edible or just interesting. Our group then gathered and laid out all of our finds. Our guide helped us identify what item were safe and unsafe to consume and then selected some of our plants and cooked a snack for us right there! My 10 year old thought this was the coolest experience and felt like she was on a treasure hunt. I would highly recommend this to anyone and I hope to do more foraging hikes with No Taste Like Home in the future!

As we pulled up to the edge of the forest, I could tell from the first minute we met our guides, Christian and Steve, that we were in for a treat! Their big smiles could barely contain
the excitement and wealth of knowledge they were about to share on the flora that lay at our feet!
The adventure quickly unfolded as Christian drew us forward into identifying and tasting the bounty that immediately lay under our feet and along pathways! After seeing how to identify poison ivy properly, we were off to climb hills and scour the woods for mushrooms. Branchy kind, shrimpy kind, cap kind, all colors, and shapes!
But what to look for, and what is safe to eat? Ahh, that's why it's so special to have someone like Christian and Steve who are well trained. It was like having an all-access backstage pass to nature's most fantastic show on earth. Afterward, we lay our collective tribal bounty out to learn from one another!
And the best part, Steve cooked up some of our edible treasure right then and there! It was great to learn and make new friends that day. I can't wait to return to Asheville for another morning of foraging. There is always something to discover!

This tour was fantastic!!! Dimitri was so knowledgeable and fantastic to be around. My wife and I spent 3 hours learning, finding and eating different wild plants and fruits. There is so much out there, and most people don’t even know! Totally spend some time with Dimitri and Liliana, it’s well worth it.

Super fun and interesting activity! Even our college kids really got into it. Christian our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and kept everything interesting. The mini tasting tease at the end was so good! Would highly recommend and hope to come back at different seasons to learn more.

Ramey and Kate did a great job with our foraging tour today! It was a very unique and informative experience and you could tell they were very passionate about it and it was infectious. There was a level of trust. They were cheerful and bubbly and inclusive of all of ages. The appetizer after foraging was delicious on the Sour wood leaves.
We took our chestnuts, onions and honey mushrooms to Rendezvous and the chef made this delicious puff pastry galette! The chef was fantastic and met with us personally. Steven our waiter was fantastic and was super excited to see what the chef came up with for us. We shared it with a neighboring table that wanted to order it and they were super impressed! We recommended your tour to them as they wanted to know more. Thank you!

Fantastic experience for all ages and skill levels. My husband and I consider ourselves pretty well versed on foraging in our home state but learned a lot about North carolina edible plants and that we have several crossovers. My dad and his wife had never foraged before but are now hooked. There was a toddler on the tour that seemed to have a blast too. We opted to bring our mushroom finds to marketplace restaurant to have them prepare an appetizer and it was one of the best dishes I've ever had, made extra special knowing we picked the mushrooms ourselves. I wish this tour was in all 50 states!

Fun experience. I wasn't sure if my husband and our 9-year old son would enjoy foraging but they loved it. Kat was a wealth of knowlege. We were kind of disapointed that it was to early in season for berries (even though it was July), but we enjoy learning about all the leaves and trying them. Our group did find some mushrooms, but they were not really edible. We did, however, tried some flowers. The day lily bulbs that Kat cooked up at the end of the tour was delicious, something you might find in a high-end restaurant good. Thanks to her, I know that stinging nettle is super healthy and how to brew my own root beer. I even found so wood sorrell growing (as weed) in by flower bed. Who knew weed would taste so good!
Definitely wear good shoes that you don't mind getting a little muddy. It's not a real hike but expect a little streneous walking, and it was quite humid in the forest. Luckily Ashville weather is not blisteringly hot so the humidity was tolerable. Also, it might be a good idea to either eat a good meal before the tour or bring a snack. We were starving at the end of the tour.

My wife and I took a 3-hour foraging tour with No Taste Like Home this week at Bullington Gardens, which is about 35 minutes south of downtown Asheville. What an enjoyable and educational experience.
Our guides, Cat and Ramey, did an outstanding job leading us through the garden area and then through the surrounding woods, frequently stopping to point out, explain and sometimes taste the various plants, trees and mushrooms that we came across. They were very knowledgeable and took time for all of us to learn about what we found. Most of the plants we tasted we never realized were edible; they just looked like weeds that you wouldn’t even take a second look at!
After about 1-1/2 hours, they cut us loose to forage for about 25 minutes on our own. We then re-grouped and laid what everyone found on a blanket. Our guides then proceeded to identify and explain, in detail, what we found; some of which were edible, some not and some to avoid because they were toxic. They also stressed the importance of really knowing for sure the identity of what you forage before eating.
At this point, we walked back to a picnic area where we laid out everything gathered and out guides prepared and cooked some of what were found. This was much better than what we tasted along the way.
To wrap up our tour, for those that had made a reservation at one of the restaurants listed on their website, our guides gathered up and bagged three items to drop off a few hours prior to our reservation. From these foraged items (for us it was leatherback mushrooms, quickweed and mountain mint), the restaurant would prepare a free appetizer. Our restaurant was Rhubarb and they prepared a delicious appetizer dish using our foraged items (see photo).
The remaining foraged items were checked and bagged with the name of the item written on outside of the bag.
This was an OUTSTANDING experience and we plan to do again several times during the year since what’s in season changes throughout the year. Our guides did an EXCELLENT JOB! We highly recommend No Taste Like Home Foraging Tour!

Such a peaceful and mindful, yet very fun, experience!! Kat was a wonderful guide and patiently taught our group so many things about the wild world of edible nature. One of the best experiences I've taken advantage of while traveling!
Jonathan Mustich
We had a wonderful time on the morel and ramp tour this past weekend. Alan and June were such informative guides teaching us a lot of new things we could potentially be foraging for. The highlights were the morels and the ramps. Not only were we successful but Alan and June helped guide us on what to look for when hunting morels. I would certainly recommend giving this tour a try, if not for anything else, some of Alan's comedic adventures.
Loren De Leon
A very fun, very informative tour. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the walkabout - it was a fun and educational outdoor experience. We left feeling like we'd spent a few hours learning with good friends.
Jon Zalon
This was a really fun and educational experience. The guides (Dimitri and Jessica) were very knowledgeable and entertaining. I moved to Asheville 7 months ago and finally did the tour last week when my daughter was visiting. Even in the winter there are some edible and medicinal mushrooms as well as herbs, nuts and fruits. I'm going to have to come back in the "high" seasons when there are many more wild things to find.
Elizabeth Outten
Such an awesome morning “meeting” plants and mushrooms in the woods. Dimitri and Jessica made it fun and interesting - I learned so much while having a fabulous time. Highly recommend.
Paola Myers
Kat and Jessica were great, friendly, engaging guides. My group had a wonderful time. We learned a lot and are excited to come back in the future!
Cynthia Giles
A delightful stroll and successful foraging expedition! Alan is extremely knowledgeable and wonderful teacher. Thank you for the experience!
Jake Kuklick
Wonderful time learning the edible and medicinal qualities of many different trees and herbs! Great teachers and a very accessible location to get to! Highly recommend.

What a way to connect with your inner child again! Exploring and learning about the treasures of nature is my idea of a fun and a productive way to spend a Sunday. We did the "Foraging Tour"- Alan was our guide and was so knowledgeable about the plants and mushrooms. He had things he scouted out beforehand, but let us freely pick and ask questions. He taught us how to use our senses and compare/contrast certain mushrooms that may have toxic look-a-likes and told us about some of the medicinal properties. Though finding mushrooms is not a guarantee each trip, we harvested quite a bit within our group: some cinnabar chanterelles, wild portobellos, boletes, blewits, lots of honey mushrooms and much more!
Alan’s enthusiasm for nature is so refreshing and really set the mood for the entire experience. Most of us didn’t want to leave when it was over!
Jessica & Alan cooked us up little appetizers of some of our finds and used some homemade spices which made the flavors of everything really pop! Beautiful organic cotton shirts are for sale at the end and a link to a free ebook is given via email that you can print off and make into a nice binder. Alan even surprised us with a little mushroom rap he performed at the end which really was the icing on the cake!
Overall I was super satisfied with the experience and would love to be able to go on another adventure next time we’re in town. This experience has definitely inspired me to learn more about nature and maybe someday start my own little foraging hunt in my town someday!
Side note: you’re also given the option of making reservations at a nearby restaurant to incorporate some of your finds into your meal!

Absolutely AMAZED at my experience today 8/26 with instructors Christian and Steven. We are visiting Asheville for just under a week from Northern Virginia and have never done any sort of foraging tour. This was a wonderful introduction to the field. Christian was incredibly patient, knowledgeable and definitely kept us entertained! Steven was so fun to chat with and the tasting he prepared at the end was delicious and has inspired me to do the same at home! This experience elevated and exceeded my expectations - not just in what I learned (which was a lot!!) but also in what we found. I went home with so many mushrooms and greens I could barely carry it all. Thank you both for making this experience so special and personal, I will definitely be back for another tour with the company!
Jessica Reschke
My husband and I went on the foraging tour with Jessica and Kat and had a wonderful time. We learned so much! This was a great, new way for us to explore and enjoy the outdoors in the Asheville area. We also enjoyed the appetizer course the restaurant made with our foraged ingredients. Highly recommend.

My family (wife and 10 year old son) and I had a wonderful time on our No Taste Like Home expedition with Ramey and Gavin. Getting to the meeting point was smooth, and both were super friendly, entertaining and knowledgeable about the plant life we foraged. We were lucky to find (with Ramey and Gavin's help) a few rare species of forest mushrooms as well as some other delicious and interesting plants, and returned home with enough forest finds to nourish us over a few meals during our stay in Asheville. And, Gavin cooked up a delicious plant-based appetizer at the conclusion of the tour as Ramey reviewed our finds to make sure all were safe to eat. The experience was really compelling for us as city folk hoping to explore a bit of the 'country' but our local fellow travelers also had a great time. Thank you!
Devon Smith
The foraging tour was AMAZING! Not only was our tour guide, Christian, incredibly knowledgeable, but she was also a fabulous teacher. By the end, we had all learned a textbook’s amount of mushroom and wild foods knowledge (and it wasn’t boring)! The tour was fun, interactive, educational, and so memorable. In fact, this was the highlight of our entire trip to Asheville!!! I’d recommend this for anyone interested in learning more about healing wild foods and harvesting some for yourself!
Danielle Zack
Tons of family fun and we learned so much! It was the perfect start to our visit in the Asheville area. We were able to use our new found knowledge on all our hikes! Our guides were Dimitry and Kelsey(hope the spelling is right). They were super kind, super knowledgeable and had us laughing a lot. They also cooked us a delicious treat with what we foraged! 😋 Fantastic experience!!
Simone Snook
Highly recommended! My husband and I had been wanting to do a foraging tour for years, and we were finally able to make it happen in celebration of his birthday. We had a fantastic time with Christian and Jessica, who were knowledgeable, engaging, and fun. We learned a lot and even enjoyed a little appetizer platter with our kiddos later that day made with our foraging finds! We can't wait to do another tour again soon.
Tammy Hileman
Despite the time of year and the rain, we had a plentiful “harvest” and excellent tasting. We learned so much! It was exciting for us to bring our finds back to Indiana and incorporate them into our meals. Forage on, friends!
Emily Baker
Had such an amazing experience on our foraging tour with Christian. She was extremely knowledgeable and down to earth, and we felt so comfortable asking questions. I left having a deeper fascination and appreciation for the plants we see and take for granted every day (looking at you weeds & invasive species). We were also lucky and stumbled on some beautiful honey mushrooms that we roasted up with chestnuts, jewelweed, and plantains. So delicious. Overall an amazing experience that I would highly recommend to anyone and everyone!
Terri Abruzzese
This excursion was absolutely delightful! We learned so much about edible plants fungi, and where to find them. We even got to taste them when our hosts cooked them at the end. Our hosts, Allen and Jessica were fun and knowledgeable and so were the other guests. We would recommend this adventure to anyone wanting a great experience!
Aimee Chonoski
We bought ourselves an early Christmas present of a Home Tour with No Taste Like Home...and it was so magical! My husband, son and I had a lovely afternoon with Hannah in the woods behind our home finding all kinds of neat herbs and mushrooms. We had no idea how much treasure we were sitting on top of this whole time! I'll be making plenty of herbal treats for Christmas gifts this year. Goldenrod sugar, white pine shortbread, sour-wood salt etc.
Hannah was so kind and informative answering all of our follow up questions and my one million extra questions on the tour! Seeing our property through her years of wisdom and love for nature was such a delight! The home tour would be an excellent gift for families trapped indoors and needing a bit of nature's peace this year.

My husband and I joined the Saturday afternoon tour and we really enjoyed ourself. Christian and June were wonderful hosts and were very knowledgeable. I especially enjoyed the tea that they gave to each of us upon arrival, it was such a nice touch. We live locally but can’t wait to come back again in the Spring and will definitely bring guests!
Michael Canfield
This was an absolutely stellar experience and a great way to interact with a part of nature that is so engrained in the human experience, but something from which we are removed so much of our life.
Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, his confidence, expertise, and engaging instruction made the experience enriching and comfortable. It’s a little intimidating just simply eating out of the ground or from mushrooms on trees.
In addition to getting a firsthand view of valley beauty, you get a list detailing the results of your forage and then of course the opportunity to take it. You can also request that the guide prepare your food and I highly recommend it. They have a plethora of sourced ingredients from hand pressed nut oil, to sumac flakes, and homemade wild onion salt. They combine these with your forage, various mushrooms particularly and it’s extremely interesting. We had sunchoke canapés with wild persimmon, pan fried hen of the woods, and wild onion. This was something we would gladly do again.
Kathy McLean
Christian and Steven were excellent tour guides. The moment I arrived, they made me feel right at home by starting out the day with a "spot" of herb tea. Christian was extremely knowledgeable and though this wasn't officially a class,I learned so much! I also have a deeper appreciation of all plants in the forest and how they intermingle and support each other. Getting to taste some of our collected bounty was a delicious way to end the morning. I can't wait to take another tour!

Went on this tour for the first time in April and really enjoyed my time with Hannelore and Steven learning about the brand new world of foraging. When my parents came to town later in the year, I brought them along for this tour as well, this time with Christian and Steven!! Twice in the same year and I would still recommend this tour. Both times I took advantage of their partnership with the local restaurants and was wowed by the dishes that these local chefs come up with.
Elizabeth Eubanks
Our second tour. Fantastic, a wealth of knowledge shared. Both Christian & Jordan taught us so much. ~ Kind, friendly, interesting “stories” folklore & scientific research based plant info. Nice of Christian to bring homemade tea and extras. Day & $ very well spent. Food prep was great~ love those little fairy potatoes!
* love what y’all are doing, will totally partake again when we come into town.
* downloaded and printed the book last time, read the whole thing and have purchased books based on the authors suggestions and got myself a cool little fungi “brife” from Gather Americana, also found a guy in AL doing mushroom yours. ~~ Good stuff, keep doing what you’re doing! If I lived here I’d be signed up for your 10 week course!

Absolutely one of the most fascinating and fun tours we’ve ever been on. Our guide, Christian, and co-guide Kate were super knowledgeable, took time to walk us through our foraged finds, and were so kind and thoughtful. Would 100% recommend!
Alana Stanley
My bf and I took a tour in late October. It was such a delightful experience! Our guides were so knowledgeable and I learned so much. Highly recommend the experience for anyone interested in learning more :) Thanks so much, no taste like home!
Johnny
Jillian and Joe were seriously amazing! The weather was dreary and drizzly but that didn't get our group down! Jillian led us lazily through fields and forests talking about each plant we passed, while nibbling here and there on leaves and twigs. It sounds like a joke doesn't it?! But that's truly what we did! We drank tea made from Sweet Birch twigs and snacked on Wood Sorrel (which tastes like sweet tarts!). At the end of the tour we came to a covered barn and Jillian sautéed us up some of our foraged finds paired with black walnuts and wrapped in a Sassafras leaf. I highly recommend this amazing experience, it was so interesting! Joe, took photos and offered up tidbits of information here and there to really round out the tour!
Lisa Tracy
I really enjoyed learning about foraging! Dimitri was knowledgeable and personable, and the tour was a perfect introduction. Thank you for a fun morning!
Omri Cohen
Great tour, fun experience, knowledgeable guides, and yummy food!
Georgia Tan
No Taste Like Home's foraging tour was such a fun & informative activity/class. Our guide, Jillian is a pure joy & incredibly intelligent (without seeming overwhelmingly so). This was experiential learning at it’s best as foraging can be intimidating, but Jillian provided a safe & fun learning environment, providing us with the right amount of information without overloading us with details. Highly recommended!
Alton Barbour
So much fun and very informative. We got to eat some of the food we found and learned a ton about foraging. If you're curious this is definitely worth the experience!
Kim Cruickshanks
We’re rather new to foraging and have found many other mushrooms, but we’ve never been able to find ramps or morels! This tour was a dream come true. I learned more in one day than the last 2 years. Alan is a hoot - dad jokes and all. ; ) Thank you for sharing your secret spot with us.
Maura Farrell
We enjoyed our foraging tour with No Taste Like Home. Just as described: a relaxed nature walk with knowledgeable guides who introduced us to smartweed, hemlock, sourwood, birchbark, chanterelles, old man of the woods, and other wild edible plants. We were all adults in our group, but there was a family with kids and they did great. At the end, we took our "catch" to one of their partner restaurants, and they cooked up a great appetizer with it that same evening. Highly recommend!
Morgan Jerrick
Great foraging tour during our trip to Asheville. Location was easily accessible about 20 minutes from downtown. Kat and Steven were very friendly and knowledgeable. They not only explained how many of our finds could be prepared while cooking but also how they have been used for medicinal/health purposes. They also took candid photos of the group throughout the tour so everyone could be in the moment and enjoy the experience. We picked about 15 wild edibles throughout the tour. Turns out some of the wild edibles we found on the tour grow in our backyard!!
Ann Pedersen
Christian and Kate were wonderful, well informed, engaging tour guides on our foraging adventure. We had time to explore in the woods and learned a lot about mushroom morphology and identification. Christian offered many ideas about how to use the edible plants we found in teas, salves, syrups and infusions! Great morning adventure and the opportunity to take mushrooms home to cook for yourself. I made a delicious mushroom omelet with plant based Just eggs. Highly recommend this tour to start your foraging hobby.
Hailey Contreras
We went in with no prior experience of foraging and this experience went well beyond what we expected. Our tour guides Dimitri and June were extremely knowledgeable, funny, and extremely interactive. I left with some great knowledge on various plants and mushrooms, how to tell the difference between lookalikes, and how to prepare what we found. Highly recommend!
Miguel Hernandez
A very unique and fun experience; Christian and Steven were both very knowledgeable, entertaining and also took extra time to educate my partner and I through everything as we were both obvious newbies. I can walk away from this with a new perspective on foraging that I look forward to using on every hike I go on from now on, and to top it all off the delicious taster they cooked for us at the end was worth the price of admission alone.
A nice touch was that Steven was very attentive in taking several pictures of the group the entire time, allowing us the freedom to fully immerse ourselves in the environment and keep our phones away completely. I cant imagine a better first experience for foraging 👌
Kathleen Wyatt
If you like the outdoors and want to learn what's edible, this is fun. Learned a lot about wild plants. Great guides, it was a very educational experience. Now everywhere I go I try to remember the different plants, going to take the next level.
Amy Moore
I greatly enjoyed my foraging tour today led by Justin. Being only one of three "tourists" allowed for a more immersive experience. Justin was a very knowledgeable guide and inspired me to discover more "wild" foods and learn how to cook with them.
Diana Petrukhina
Kat did an incredible job teaching me about the local plants and berries and nuts of this area! Very informative and she is great and easy to communicate with! Would highly recommend for anyone whose interested in foraging, or just looking for something different to try :)
Dana Rothbart
A truly unique and authentic experience! My husband and I were shown the forest through a new and exciting lense. In a time where we have strayed too far from our connection to the natural world and a more simple way of life, No Taste Like Home is here to bring you back!
Honey Bees & Basil Leaves
I had the best day I’ve had on a very long time on this tour. We did a family trip and we learned so much and now everywhere I go, every time I walk outside, I find myself recognizing one edible plant or another.
Go! You’ll have an amazing time and learn some lifelong lessons about foraging your own food! I highly recommend!
Kimberlee Neff
The foraging tour was so much fun and we learned so much! We all loved it and can't wait to go back for another tour. Our guides Christian and Steven were incredibly knowledgeable and really took the time to answer all of our questions.
Lauren Konchan
Far exceeded my expectations. This tour was awesome! Full of personal touches (yummy mountain mint tea to start off the morning to the garnishes on the samples at the end of the day), excellent information/guides, and just overall the message behind the day (be wild/explore with all your senses/etc.) I gifted this to my boyfriend for his bday and we truly had such a cool day learning/tasting/being outside! The table was FULL of foraged items at the end from greens to mushrooms - truly epic!
Also, shoutout to Dimitri for his spunky way of guiding. Super cool guy.
Jake Stoetzner
Great experience. Christian and Jessica were extremely knowledgable, kind and patient. Plus they found some tasty treats in the forest. Learned a lot and all around fun time.
Josh Mullins
We had an outstanding time foraging with Kat and Steven!!! Such a fun and educational experience. Well structured experience. Highly recommend.
Ren Taylor
Dimitri and Kelsey were so knowledgeable and friendly! I definitely recommend this tour to anyone interested in sustainability, foraging, or botany!
Ann Kemske
On behalf of my family, I would like to thank you for the incredible edible
experience we had with you yesterday.
The entire event, from start to finish, exceeded our expectations.
We found more varieties of mushrooms and plants than we could deliver
to our restaurant chef.
The appetizer that our chef at The Marketplace prepared for us was delicious.
Alan and Jordan packed up bags and bags for us to take home.
Today we cooked them all up and made a delightful Mushroom Soup that
we served with homemade bagel chips.
The T-shirts and special gifts were greatly appreciated and three generations
of our family all agree that we would highly recommend this tour to local families
or any visitors to Asheville.
We had a fruitful foraging harvest and made many very special memories.
Surely this will be one of the greatest memories of all.
Vanessa Ramirez-Sparrow
Christian and June were AMAZING tour guides! We learned so much and had an overall great time. Would highly recommend this tour for anyone interested in getting started in foraging.
david hare
My wife and I went on one of their foraging tours today. Our guides Christian and June were really knowledgable and seemed excited to answer questions. We left with a handful of mushrooms, a little bit of knowledge, and a bunch of easy to find plants that can go in teas or salads. Would recommend this if you like the idea of finding food.

GREAT FOR INDIVIDUALS, FRIENDS, FAMILIES AND COUPLES - A ROMANTIC ADVENTURE IN THE WOODS: We are locals, interested in learning how to forage from Asheville's plentiful environment. We've tried foraging events and workshops in the past, but they all left us feeling a lack of confidence in our instructors. NO TASTE LIKE HOME PROVIDED A WONDERFUL, COMMUNITY-BASED LEARNING EXPERIENCE. Our instructors were heartfelt, passionate and knowledgeable about what they do. They had expertise that comes only from having dedicated oneself to both the art and science of foraging, for many years. All of us, on the tour, became progressively excited and involved as we began recognizing various plant-foods in our immediate surroundings - and this was in Winter! I can't wait to take a No Taste Like Home tour, in the Spring ;) To top it all off, we ended our day with a delicious oyster mushroom and wild onion bite. Breaking bread together is sacred and bonding, but that's exponential when you've actually harvested the food that you're sharing! I WOULD GIVE NO TASTE LIKE HOME 10 STARS, IF THEY WERE AVAILABLE!
Alyssa Fetini
Absolutely incredible experience connecting to nature and understanding more about how the earth can sustain us. Kat and Kate were fantastic guides and I left having learned so much. Very grateful for this experience
GABRIELA FOJT
Feeling again like a kid and having fun with my grown-up teen - not easy to find both things in one experience! Hunting for mushrooms and edible plants while listening to knowledgeable guide and then cooking and tasting all together - definitely worth to do! Thanks to Kat and Kate for their great job!!!
Susi Husty
We just completed a tour with Justin and found a beautiful array of mushrooms and other plants. It was a fantastic experience! We would recommend the tour.
S'hani McGhee
I learned a lot of great info from Allen and Steven on the foraging guide! At the end of the tour they cooked the mushrooms we found and they were phenomenal
Sheree Owens
Really wonderful tour, delicious and informative. Kat and Steven were great! We are excited to go home and continue learning
Lisa Murphy
My foraging tour with Dimitri and Jessica was wonderful! I had so much fun, learned a ton, and can’t wait to do another tour! I highly recommend this experience to visitors and locals alike.
Jessica Wishart
This was a wonderful experience! Our guides, Christian and June, were so knowledgeable. I learned so much about foraging and will definitely come back in another season to do it again! I highly recommend this!
Kalman Heyn
LOVE THIS! A friend booked a foraging experience for my wife and I as a birthday gift, and it was such a fun way to really get our hands on Asheville, North Carolina. Our tour guide Christian led us through the forest identifying edible mushrooms and greens. She was so friendly, funny, and knowledgeable. I would 100% do another tour with her. So inspiring! And at the end Christian cooked us a light meal with everything we found.
Aimee Lim
This was so much fun! Dmitri and Steven were awesome and so informative, and the cooked finds were great too! Definitely would recommend this experience.
Roya Headley
Such a fun experience!! Demetri was wonderful and very informative! We can't recommend the tour enough and we will be back!

Partner & I did this on a whim and had we known how great it was, it would've been a bucket-list trip. Not for people who already have deep foraging experience, more intro level, but we had a couple that had done this multiple times & they also had a blast. If you're not a forager, it will really open your eyes to your food. Also, they take pictures for you to help you remember all theyre teaching you & feed you a little (3-hour tour). So glad we did it!
Daniel Fink
Steven and Christian were great guides and the whole experience was fantastic!
Lionel Vital
Amazing experience - went on a foraging tour with Hannelore and Stephen through the woods. Learned a ton about new plants I've never tasted before (hemlock tips!) and plants I'm sorta familiar with (sassafras!). Was my favorite activity while in Asheville. This inspired a new hobby I can take home and I'm excited to come back to this new home and discover new yummy plants and mushrooms!
Chere Bossard
We had an amazing time learning about the menu of nature. Both Jess and Rommey (?) Were amazing guides. The tasting throughout the "walk" was great and the appetizer prepaired at the end was amazing. We even got a little performance from Roomey. We enjoyed ourself, would do it again and recommend it to others.
Alexis Croswell
I highly recommend No Taste Like Home Wild Food Tours. The morning of my tour in April, I woke up to see snow on the ground and texted to see if we were still on - we were! I bundled up and I'm so glad I had this experience. Our host, Dimitri was knowledgable and made our tour so much fun. I've enjoyed my sassafras tea at home, and the tasting we had on site was great too.
Rob Smith
A very enjoyable and informative experience. Tour began at a location about 20 min outside of Asheville. My understanding is that the location varies depending upon the season and other factors. The guide Ramey and her assistant Steven gathered the group together and after some introductions lead us on a roughly three hour walk through a community garden and an adjacent wooded area. Ramey and Steven were very engaging and thorough in pointing out different edible plants as well as things to avoid. Near the end, participants were given a chance to roam the woods nearby to gather plants and some of the gathered plants were cooked into a tasty snack. I would highly recommend this and I would definitely book this again.
Cheri Wilhite
We had a great tour, a lot of interesting history and science and learned to identify a few things. Kristen and Stephen were great guides and the appetizer they prepared was amazing. We opted to take our finds home to cook ourselves. I would definitely go again in another season.
Pictures are nettle soup, sourwood wrapped shrimp, false jelly fiber fan mushrooms (with shiitake) seasoned with ox eye daisy leaves, and homemade root beer from sassafras root.
Danielle Zinn
Foraging with Kat & Stephen was so much fun. They were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. They were professional and provided baskets and tools to assist with foraging. We foraged about a dozen different plants and they shared facts about identification, scientific properties, uses, and preparations. Toward the end of our time together, we had a “treasure hunt” where we all freely explored and foraged, then shared our findings with the group. Finally, Kat prepared some of the plantains that we picked (which were delicious!). We brought our two kids (5 & 8 years old) and they loved it! Three hours is a long time for kiddos this age, so if you plan to bring kids, be sure to pack some snacks and drinks. The ultimate ending to this experience was that we made a dinner reservation at The Market Place in downtown Asheville for that same evening. We dropped off our foraged goodies to The Market Place and they prepared a dish for us incorporating our finds. It was delicious!

I attended the Foraging Tour on July 1st. I was really looking forward to it after arriving the night before after a long drive from St Pete, FL. The tour did not disappoint! :) Our guides, Christian & Steven, were friendly, knowledgeable & generous with their time. Steven even brought a black staining polypore to cook with the greens we had foraged. The appetizer he made was delicious!!
Donna Affronti
This is an adventure everybody should experience, well worth the time. Fun mixed with education. It amazing to discover the plants around you that are edible or have medicinal benefits but also take caution not to sample the wrong one.
Shannon Howard
We loved the wild food tour! It was fantastic. Hannah was so knowledgeable and made the tour a lot of fun. Once we got home, we were much more easily able to spot some of the things we had seen on the tour. :)
Andrew Post
Christian and Steven did a great job guiding our tour and teaching us a whole lot about edible plants that can be found in almost any woods and even our back yards. Well worth the time and money.
Summer Wheeler
Fun, interesting, and informative tour. We went with my family of 10 and every person had a great time and learned a lot. Allan even cooked up a few of our finds at the end and they were delicious!
Casey Thomas
The Wild Food tour was a unique and wonderful experience. Our tour was on a beautiful day in March, and we foraged flowers, greens, nuts, twigs, and roots.
I can't speak highly enough about our guides, Dimitri and June. They were knowledgeable, funny, friendly, and interactive. Above all, their passion for foraging was contagious! Along with educating the group about how to prepare some of our items, Dimitri and June pose questions and ideas that make you pause and reassess your relationship with nature.
We started our morning with a complimentary tea that our guides brewed, introduced ourselves, and soon the entire group was eagerly searching away. The small group encouraged questions and ensured that no one was eating the wrong thing.
If you want a unique way to enjoy the outdoors, don't leave Asheville without going on this tour. My boyfriend and I are already planning to do the tour again in a couple of months.
Michelle Beers
My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our foraging tour with Kat and Steven. They were very welcoming and knowledgeable. I would take more classes with you guys if I lived closer to the Asheville area. Thanks for a great experience!
Courtney Hunsberger
DO IT. Kat and Kelsey rock. Charming, wonderful teachers who just overall exude the love they have for nature and can nurture your total fairy inner animal. Have fun!
Robert Grimes
Christian and Steven were amazing! We learned a ton and had such a good time foraging. It was an experience like non other and i will definitely be recommending it to everyone.
Daniel Gloede
Justin and Jordan were super knowledgeable and friendly. Got some great shrooms!
Amber Leathers
Christian and June were great. You can tell they really enjoy their job and we're very knowledgeable about items we saw.
Mary Sue Weinaug
Christian was so knowledgeable and fun! Great time by our group of 8! Would totally do it again!

No Taste Like Home knocked it out of the forest. Our guide, Natalie, and her assistant, Andy, were incredible. Natalie cheerfully showed us how we could eat well from our own backyards. She started the tour off with a delicious home brewed tea, and mid-tour recited a poem from memory about mushrooms. The poem was perfect for the content of the tour, but it was honestly also just a very, very good performance. We were set loose for 20 minutes in the woods to seek out mushrooms, (with very strict instructions not to eat anything) and I think we all felt like Lewis & Clark a bit. When we brought Natalie our finds, she spent almost 30 minutes sorting and explaining all of the species and collecting what was edible. She cooked them up and served them to us on violet leaves with the most delicious sumac seasoning I’ve ever tasted. After the tour, we took our gatherings to The Market Cafe and the chef there created a delicious appetizer of mushrooms and peppers with them. Such a niche and incredible experience! Thank you!
Mike Gallagher
Dmitri and Gavin did a great job. Very cool course. Found mushrooms and all sorts of plants to eat..they cooked em up and it tasted delicious..

I've had 2 tours so far with this company in different seasons and they both have been so enjoyable and informative. I had really been wanting to learn more about edible wild foods and this experience has been so great for hands on learning. It so helpful to learn from an expert with the ability to ask questions and hold and taste the plant/food. Cooking demos are informative, fun and delicious. Not only do you learn how to properly identify wild foods as well as the "look-a-likes", you also learn how best to prepare, store and cook your foraged finds. I highly recommend!
Esthefany Richard
I loved the tour, it was my first foraging experience and I learned about many different edibles in the wild. The guides were very informative and made me feel welcomed. I recommend this for anyone who wants to Learn or is just curious about what sorrounds us. Depending on the season you might find different things out there. At the end of the tour we enjoyed a tasting made of the different things we all found. It was great!

We booked a private foraging tour with a large group including children ages 5-13. What an amazing special day. Everyone had a wonderful time. Alan and Christian were extremely knowledgable, helpful, and entertaining.
The tour engaged and captivated kids and adults alike. We had a wide range of interest in foraging; Alan was adept to pay attention to each individual, welcoming and encouraging each - from the novice child to the expert grandmother.
The bounty of the mushroom harvest was truly astounding - words cannot do it justice. They personally made sure that our corresponding dinner reservation, where they cooked the harvest we had gathered, would be exceptional - and it was.
We cannot recommend this experience enough. The memories - and more importantly the knowledge gained from this trip will last on long after our vacation.
We need more experiences like this, and more people like Allen and Christian to foster our spirit, imagination of what is possible, and to spur us to take action to appreciate the extraordinary that is around us, hiding in plain sight... if we will only stop, take notice and ask questions.
Kyle Sitzman
Our tour guides, Justin and June, were friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. We learned a lot and are excited to take this experience home with us to enjoy foraging in our own backyard. We left feeling inspired. Highly recommend!
Robert Leduc
Our guide was Rami.
She arrived right on time and was not only very informative about all the edible leaves and plants we came across at the Grove Park Inn but also very enthusiastic about the subject.. All together we sampled about 12 different wild items.
It was a great introduction to natural edible items growing all around us!
Heather HILLAERT
This is a must! Dimitri was our guide and due to really good luck we got a private session. He not only taught us a ton but he also created an experience in how he framed greeting us to leaving us - by that I mean he gave us "food for thought" as we began the day and as we ended the day.
We went foraging in early spring so most of our findings were green plants (no mushrooms yet) but we had a delicious snack and took the rest to The Marketplace in Asheville for a yummy salad. We have been able to apply what we learned to do a little foraging at home.
I look forward to heading back out in other seasons.
Becky hayden
Hannah and Steven were incredible! Very knowledgeable and patient. We went with our bachelorette crew and they answered every question and made it so fun! I would highly recommend this tour and having Hannah and Steven as your tour guides!
Julian W
Truly espectacular experience, learn so much about recognizing and picking the right leaves, roots and mushrooms.
Justin was exceptional, his knowledge was incredible.
Just amazing to be able to walk on the forest and pick the right mushrooms then go to the Aux restaurant in downtown Asheville and chefs Mitch and Gaven will cook a delicious meal using only your ingredients you picked up an hour earlier.
Jill Slater
Christian was incredibly knowledgeable, she made it fun and exciting to smell, taste and eat plants that I walk by everyday and call weeds! Great to learn about different types of mushrooms and how to identify them. Enjoyed learning about plants like poison ivy that often grow next to plants that can sooth the rash. Will definitely take the tour again in the fall to see new and different plants and mushrooms.
Kassandra Vaughan
Really great experience with Justin & June on the foraging tour! Very patient and friendly people. Learned so much!! Recommend going at the beginning of your trip so you can use the knowledge on later hikes.
Betsy Warren
Our “What’s In My Yard” experience with Alan was SO MUCH FUN!! I can’t stop thinking about all the edible plants I learned about, right here on our small property in Swannanoa. And today on a 5-mile walk in north Asheville, we practiced identifying and sampling some of the plants we learned about. I’m SO glad we got to do this — huge thanks and even larger kudos to No Taste Like Home.
Deanna Jacobson
What a fun and educational way to spend a morning. Heather and Steven did a great job teaching these newbies about foraging and helping us find a variety of foods right under our feet! We were fortunate that our B&B hostess agreed to cook our fairy potatoes for breakfast next day and we hardly recognized the greens, chestnuts and mini grapes that the chef at The Market Place turned into an amazing caprese appetizer!
We hadn't made dinner reservations before our forage, but were able to find one that fit our plans. It would be nice if there were a more budget friendly restaurant as an option. Still, what a great experience for our first visit to Asheville! We haven't looked at 'weeds' the same way since!
Mary Lewinski
Hannah was our guide and she was AMAZING! I never, in a million years, expected to go through the parking lot and surrounding area of a hotel and munch away at the green foliage. (Yucca leaves rock!) When I first came upon her, she was as if she had been dropped from another century as she sat with her wicker basket on her lap and one on her back. She went out of her way to accommodate "Henry who could jump" (3 years old) and "Mary who could not jump" (me) who had a very bad knee at that time. I still can't figure out how she has gotten the knowledge she has nor how she convinces her partner to eat whatever leaves, mushrooms, and berries she can find. I'm lucky I can convince Tom to eat lettuce from Publix. She has secrets of the universe which are a mystery to me. I applaud her beautiful, kind manner.
Cheryl Soltesz
This it a fun and unique activity to do on a trip to Asheville. Our guides, Ramey and Stephen, were knowledgeable and fun. We took our gatherings to a local restaurant that prepared a delicious appetizer for us which made the foraging extra special.
Conni Brennan
Went on the foraging tour with my mom and we had a wonderful time. Our guide Justin was excellent. Perfect way to spend the morning, and seems to be an activity that anyone could enjoy. Really unique, engaging, and interesting. We look forward to being able to go again already.
Alex Foster
This was one the greatest experiences of my life. I will encourage everyone I meet to take this tour because I think there is a lot of value in learning about the plants that we live around. This was seriously so much fun and so informative I feel like it has changed me!
Melanie Dickson
We had Justin come out to our mountain cabin to ID edibles on our property. He arrived promptly and went right to work surveying our land. Shortly after checking things out, he came and got us and showed us all the edibles he found. He labeled them for us and described in great detail all the qualities of each plant, fungi, and nuts. In all over 20 different varieties! His passion for wild food was evident which made the tour very enjoyable. Thank you Justin for sharing your vast knowledge of mountain food with us.
W.M. McCollough
We had a great time. The guides were enthusiastic, knowledgeable and dedicated to an excellent experience. Everyone in the group finds the edible plants and then everything is put together, cleaned and apportioned. The guides prepared a delicious snack made from several of the plants.
I highly recommend completing the experience by taking your generous assortment of foraged foods to Rhubarb (or one of the other participating restaurants) following the tour, where they will create an incredible appetizer. The day was unique and delicious.
Moriah Stock
Would highly recommend as a must-do activity for locals and tourist alike! Had a private tour for my group and it was absolutely an amazing experience! From the start, very informative and educational but also a lot of hands-on learning! Hannah was such a delight to have as a guide, very knowledgeable and helpful not mention an incredible cook! 👍 hopefully our group can return for another tour in a different season!
Katie Durden
This was one of the coolest activities of our trip. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable, and I was impressed by the number of plants we found and learned about. I especially loved learning about the different mushrooms we discovered. Excellent tour guide and experience.
Devorah Thomas
A very fun and educational experience with Christian and Stephen. I would like to hire No Taste Like Home to come look at our property in Bat Cave and help learn to forage there as well. Thanks.
Dane Fearon
The guides teach you a lot about safety, medicinal properties of plants, conservation of certain sensitive plants, and ways of cooking certain plants. Even ones you wouldn’t think of, like stinging nettles. I was hoping to find some mushrooms. But they’re not out this time of year. I was told July-September is the best time for most mushrooms. Morels are an exception, and their season apparently just ended. Last thing is they tell you that if you want, you can bring 3 of your finds to a participating restaurant, and if you buy a meal, they’ll turn your finds into an appetizer. What they did not mention is you need to book a reservation and submit your finds to the restaurant a day in advance. So keep that in mind if you decide to take them up on that. I enjoyed my food from the restaurant I went to, so if I did this tour again I would put the effort in to have them make me an appetizer.
Liza Elsner
Wow! What a fun morning we had with Hannelore. She met us at our property and took us along one of our neighborhood trails. She spotted both edible and toxic plants and marked them. Now we can show our children what to avoid when they are out exploring. Hannelore was delightful—so kind and knowledgeable. We even harvested the edible part of a reishi mushroom and some wild cucumbers. That evening we incorporated them into our dinner. What healthful and delicious additions to an amazing meal—and all a hike away!! I can’t wait to sign up for a tour during mushroom season.
williamblakeloggins
It really was a great experience. They were very nice, funny, and informative. Recommend.

My wife and I have never been on this type of tour but I can say that this was one of the highlights of our time in and near Asheville. Justin and Hannah are amazing and super nice as hosts. I know it wasn't meant to be a workshop but I sure did learn a lot and got to take some of the findings home. They cooked the findings for us at the end of the tour and had us taste each thing. I didn't know that there were so many more flavors than what we are sold at the grocery stores. Thank you for your adventure!
Dennis Brodowski
Great experience! Knowledgeable guides that made it easily accessible. Lots of great little tidbits about the history of certain plants. Got quite the haul! Looking forward to using the harvest and to continue my education of wild foods. Thanks!
Nan Leininger
My sister and I (median age: 70.5) joined a 3 hour foraging tour one July morning. It was educational and FUN! Alas, we were not very good at foraging (I will continue to dehydrate our meals for backpacking trips!) but Natalie provided us with a nice bag of Chanterelles which I turned into an omelet the next day. Divine! We're planning on a 6 hour intensive tour in April for ramps and morels. Better luck next time.
Ethan Bodie
Did the Forging to Table tour out in the Black Mountain area. Our guide Natalie was awesome, knew a ton about forging and was easy going. I knew it would be interesting but also turned out to be super fun looking and learning about forging (which we never really thought about or had interest in before). Also being able to sample some of our finds at the end of the tour, as well as by a professional Chef (with the restaurant reservation option) made it even better. If you are thinking about doing it, then book it now. If you aren't thinking about doing it, book it also!
Emily Wheeler
Great first foraging experience! Kat and Steven were excellent guides with such a wealth of knowledge. A must-do when visiting Asheville!
Marissa Pearrow
It was magical and so much fun. Another time of the year would be fun to try but I value this unique experience :) Hannah and Alan made the outdoors come to life - showing us how the plants we encounter all the time can be made into meals and medicine. It’s so amazing to see how nourishing the world around us is! 11/10 would recommend!
Laura P
This is an amazing experience and so educational. Me and my boyfriend went and met other cool couples as well as a sweet family. Becky and Ediranna (I incorrectly spelling her name, I apologize) were our tour guides and they were phenomenal. They were both so knowledgeable and caring about the vegetation. Inspiring! We tried out the $80 foraging trip to see if we thought the experience was worth the cost and by far we will be back for more experiences with this unique organization. After we harvested our finds, we cooked a small meal together, and then took our findings to Rhubarb in downtown and they made us a free appetizer using our ingredients. Delicious and so thoughtful. A must try excursion while in Asheville!
mo heretick
we had Hannah and Tiffany come to our unexplored property in Waynesville. We had quite a group of young family members to corral as the staff showed us edibles and non edibles from the property. We will use them again as the kids loved their tour and information. Thank you for such a great experience!
Kristie Galloway
We had a great time on our foraging tour. It was three hours and our guides were very knowledgeable about the plants we found. They also provided us with look-alike plants and how to differentiate between the two. At the end, they made us a nice appetizer bite of what we had found. If your curious about foraging for food, this is the tour for you!
Lindsay Moates
Great experience! Cat and Steven were the best and did a great job.
Amanda Sprunger
Learned so much!!!
The guides were fun, extremely knowledgeable, and such a pleasure to spend the day with.
It was great to learn hands-on; and after this tour, my friends and I that went kept spotting edible foods on the rest of our camping trip, and I’ve spotted the same edibles in my own backyard! Makes me want to learn more. ❤️
Nate LaGoy
Christian and Steven were such great guides. I cannot believe how knowledgeable they were. I learned more on this tour than I ever expected and the knowledge they impart on their tour is worth the cost alone. Thanks for a great day!
Amy Boudreau
Fantastic educational and interactive experience that truly makes you feel at home in nature. Allen and Alexa taught us to recognize 3 dozen edible plants and mushrooms. The best thing: many of the plants we foraged I’ve seen in my own backyard. We’ll definitely be adding these tours to future trips to Asheville
Maci Brown
I cannot recommend this enough! It is the perfect Asheville foodie activity. It is a fantastic way to learn about what we miss everyday, and truly a fun experience! The guides are very informative and knew about any plant you would ask about! I would love to go again in a different season to see what else we can find!

Our guides were Dimitri and Jessica and they were wonderful on our tour. They were patient and great with our kids. Great job and thank you Dimitri and Jessica.
Melanie Seal
My whole family enjoyed the foraging tour. Our guide was knowledgeable and clearly enjoys what she does. Spending time outside in nature as a family is one of our favortie things to do, and this did not disappoint! I highly recommend this if you're in the Asheville area, and would go again.
Tiffany Kramer
Very educational and fun! Will definitely visit again
Cortney Boles
It has been wonderful. Perfect weather and even better company. Loved the taste test and all the good vibes/energy. Very educational! Wonderful learning experience. I’ve been inoculated with a need to forage!
Janet T
I wish we'd been shown a larger variety of plants. Too much time spent on dandelions. The taste at the end really was just a tiny bite. Overall, interesting but expensive.
Michelle Fletcher
Incredible tour and tasting experience. I was amazed by how much I learned about several plants, and I loved hearing their local history and medicinal uses as much as I loved eating them! I felt so connected to the earth and nourished by the whole experience. Thank you to Becky and the whole team!!
Rebecca Chaplin
Our No Taste Like home foraging tour exceeded our expectations. As we had hoped, we learned more about how to identify and gather wild foods. The experience also deepened our connection with nature and one another. We were fortunate to have Alan as our tour guide. Alan has a gift for connecting with all types of people and he was brilliant at harmonizing our group of various ages and needs. One of the many poignant moments that stands out for me - Alan stopped to notice the leaf of a plant with disease and he said, "isn't that beautiful? Even disease can be beautiful" what a deeply touching sentiment.
Lakshmi Swamy, MD
My son and I really enjoyed the tour. It was just enough detail and moving around. The partnership with restaurants is clever! Hanna's cooking demonstration at the end rivaled what we had prepared by the chef at the restaurant. We'd take the tour again!
Katherine
We came out for our 6 year anniversary. This has been a wonderful experience. It truly opened me up to the land + forest. I love to learn about new plants + this tour was very informative. Thank you!
Robert Tankel
Fantastic trip and fun time! We went on a foraging tour around the Grove Park Inn last year with Alan Muskat, capo de tutti capi of the foragers and wanted more and boy did we get it. Drove about a half hour from Asheville and Becky, our guide showed us about 2 dozen plants and trees that are edible (some aren't-no secret eating). It's amazing what nature has provided us right before our eyes.
Michelle Weitzman
So much FUN foraging with Kat and Steve. What a great adventure and worthy tour packed with education and experiences. This is a must do off-the- beaten path other than touristy experience.
Ryan Reardon
Went on this tour with a small group of friends, and a tweenager. Everyone loved it! Highly recommended for anyone traveling through the Asheville area, and for people who live in the area. Take advantage of these amazing things we have around us. We foraged and found chanterelle, black trumpet, leatherback mushrooms (and a few more). I had never heard of leatherbacks, but they were delicious. AND, it's not super clear on their website, but you can make reservations at a local restaurant (we chose Aux Bar in downtown Asheville) and they will cook up a few dishes with your foraged food. How cool is that! Don't miss it.
I can't give enough positive feedback for this tour. We learned a lot, had a bunch of fun, took home a bounty of fungi, and ate really well. Highly recommended.
Beautiful Booze
We did the dinner package with dinner at Nightbell following our foraging tour and it was the perfect day. The tour itself was great with our guide Becky showing us around her farm and surrounding forested areas and teaching the group (around 10 people) about all the different edible and inedible plants growing wild. There were "weeds" everywhere I would never look twice but Becky was picking them out of the ground, off trees and stalks then telling the group all about them and giving everyone a taste. The smallest plants and leaves were absolutely delicious and it was exciting picking them out and considering what the restaurant could do with them. At the end of the foraging everyone went to the barn and Becky cooked up a delicious appetizer with just the ingredients we had just picked.
Misha Rowe
All the specifics we experienced- kindness, knowledge, great responses to questions, friendliness, patience, excellent cooking, care with labeling bags. We arrived at a secluded quiet private farm and there was Hannah with baskets, bags, COVID-19 face mask. Relaxed, fun, and adventurous way to learn about natural foods and enjoy them at the end. Highly recommended with mushroom hunting towards the end. (10 -- hope you keep her!)
Cathleen Turner
Great experience! We had a lovely haul of bitercress, chickweed, dead nettle, onion grass, winter cresss and more. Guides are amazing!!!

Thanks for the tour today with Allie and Hannah. Allie was a skilled and personable guide. Together, we found and tasted sourwood, wine berries, birch, ginseng, plantain, spice bush, wood sorrel, stone crop and the chanterelle snack was amazing. We will surely come again. It was an inspiring and educational afternoon that was well worth it!

If you are looking for a memory that you will savor, I would suggest you join Alan Muskat on his Ramp and Morel adventure. Alan is not only a wild food forager and expert but he has a gift for weaving in lore and storytelling into the forgotten language of plants.
Alan took us Morel and Ramp hunting and all I can say is the memory is indelibly engraved in my heart. We started the tour by walking up a winding path towards the “secret” spot where the elusive Morel mushroom is said to be found at this time of the year. Along the way, Alan pointed out the spring ephemerals growing along the path and patiently fielded a constant stream of questions. “What’s this plant?”, “Is this a …[xyz]… plant?” and so on. We sampled and filled our baskets with edibles such as wild mustards, purslane, violets, and others. We smelled different plants and their roots and even came across a medicinal plant that smelled like tires! Finally, the moment of great anticipation came and we were at an invisible threshold where the “secret” spot started. The scenery of the woodland forest was incredible. If faeries existed, this is where they dwelled! And so the magic continued…. We found Morel after Morel mushroom. They came in all sorts of sizes and there seemed to be about 4 different species. After we filled our baskets it was time to move on to finding the Ramps. While I’d never tasted a Ramp, I had heard they were an Appalachian delicacy and festivals were made in the name of Ramps! We visited different Ramp spots but my favorite was near the base of an old tree. In the foreground was a dense carpet of Ramps forming a semi-circle around the tree. In the background where tall pink Trilliums. The tree trunk formed a Y shape and a wild ginger plant (how it got there I’ll never know) was nested where the trunk split off into 2 directions. Its prehistoric flowers (resembling wood flower carvings) dangling downwards. The beauty of the area might have one convinced a Master Gardener from a botanical society carefully arranged the scene. But this was nature at her highest artistic expression.
The day’s memories lingered and intensified. That night back at the home base, the forest smells entered my Kitchen and the sound of Morels, Ramps, and greens sizzling in butter could be heard.
Ann Mckinley
We had a wonderful time on our tour and learned quit a lot. I thought the Jack O Lantern mushrooms were cool. Hope to go again in the spring.

Such an amazing learning experience. Have you ever learned anything that you think EVERYONE in the world should learn. This is that! I wish I could cast a wand to have everyone learn what you learn from this amazing company

I highly recommend this foraging tour! We spend so much time outdoors but don’t get introduced to the nature around us -- so thanks to No Taste Like Home for all your knowledge and time!

My fiancé and I were visiting Asheville from South Louisiana and when I came across “No Taste Like Home” in my search of things to do in Asheville, I knew we couldn’t pass up the experience. We truly enjoyed our tour with Demetri and Jessica. Not only were they knowledgeable about their craft, their personalities and senses of humor were also great. There’s nothing like building a sense of community than being in nature and laughing together. The location we met at was a beautiful, unique, sustainable community in the mountains and the drive there and back was an experience of its own— breathtaking. I am so happy that we booked this tour, it was a wonderful experience. Highly recommend!
