Reviews of Gray Line Trolley Tours of Asheville
Lisa Suzanne Joiner-Cummins
We had a terrific experience riding the trolley two days in a row. We bought the hop-on/hop-off tickets which allowed us to explore different areas of Asheville easily. We had several different drivers between the two days and wanted to thank all of them for their entertaining stories. A special shout out to Matt and another driver who wore a white cowboy hat (sorry, we can't remember your name)!!!
Highly recommend the trolley service and also the wonderful people at the Visitor Center!
Monica Gomez
If you take a ride on the Gray Line you'll be privileged to hear a trove of interesting facts, stories, and history about Asheville. Even things that you didn't know you'd enjoy knowing. And for a little bit more, you can choose the option to hop on and off the trolley at different points of interest, making it easier to explore. Kudos to the drivers too, they're great. I'm really happy that we took the trolley ride.
Michelle Sloan
Such a cool and interesting tour. Definitely one of the best haunted tours I've been on. Scary Cary and Haunted Honey were fantastic, fun and informative you can tell they care about the town and the people (and ghosts) in it.
I would definitely recommend!
PennieDee Studio
By far the best trolley tour I've ever taken. I enjoyed myself so much. The trolley was comfortable and the drivers were knowledgeable and friendly. I learned so much about Asheville and I'm sure they only scratched the surface. The stops were worth seeing and we hopped on and off and spent time at the Asheville Museum, Grove Park Inn, and at the Grove Arcade. If we'd had more time, we would have hopped off to explore more of the stops. Definitely recommend!
*The trolley is only empty because it was the last route of the day and we were the last few ppl on it. At the beginning of the day, it was very busy & full
Jenn Bryson
I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone who is curious about the paranormal/murderous side of of downtown Asheville. Scary Carrie and Haunted Honey are awesome tour guides! Can't wait to do the walking tour soon. Thank you!
Denise Simmons
Loved our Tour of Asheville SC, DAVID was very informative and a great guide & driver!! Enjoy your new job David!!
Only took a couple photos because I was listening to the history of AVL ( Ashville)

"Uncle Ted" took our Society of Air Force Nurses on an amazing tour this morning. Lots of really good historical and music-referenced history...he also customized the tour for a group of 30 former USAF nurses. Get job and gave everyone a good idea of "where to go next". Highly recommend! Thanks, Uncle Ted!!
Larry Birks
We truly enjoyed our tour! Having lunch at the Grove with that incredible view was a memory we won't soon forget. The two tour guides we had were "top drawer!" They knew their town, what was important, and did an excellent job negotiating all the areas we were exploring. We are thinking about coming back to Asheville in the spring and doing the tour again with family. Your tour is a wonderful way to see Asheville and a great value
Keith Hurst
We did both the hop on hop off and the ghost tour. Both were very good on giving history and stories of the area. All the drivers and commentators we had were VERY knowledgeable of the area with many facts and answered all the questions from the group. The Ghost tour did cover some of the same areas of town but went into more detail of some of the darker events. The hop on hop off was a great way to get around town, hear the history and not worry about parking. For any first time visitors to the area I would highly recommend the tours.
Amanda Coleman
My mother and I jumped on the hop on hop off day tour and had the best time! The ride was comfortable the route was perfect to view our area of interest. Our driver Dean was excellent he was very knowledgeable and engaging. His tales of the area sprinkled with very funny stories and anecdotes really made our day. If your in town definitely hop on Dean's trolley and enjoy
Traveling Bird
Fun activity filled with historical facts about Asheville, albeit the facts seem to vary depending on who's behind the wheel. We had the opportunity to ride with two different guides and both were fun and engaging. The fun historical facts were widely different but amusing nonetheless. This is a great way to learn about the Asheville neighborhoods and an easy way to explore town. Highly recommend the hop on and hop off option.
Sean Bianchi
Good experience to do to learn about the history of the town. Very informative and interesting.
Uncle Ted was awesome. Very entertaining and got the trolly involved in the stories.
Hans
My girlfriend and I did a 4 night trip to Asheville. We stayed out of town and traveled in everyday. We really liked the hop on hop off tour it was convenient to the locations we wanted to see and saved us from having to pay for street parking. We did two days on the tour to get around town. I thought it was nice we could use the trolley for 2 days instead of 1 day. I really liked the information and history the tour guides told us while on board. Walt, Matt and Dean were very nice and were happy to answer any questions.
I would highly recommend making the gray line trolley tour a part of your Asheville experience.
Michelle S-K
Some drivers are phenomenal guides but it’s a little pricey and they only run until 5/6pm so you really only have time for 1-2 stops. It is nice if you can do it for 2 of 3 days. Great for tourists without a car but not sure I’d do it again. Some really interesting Asheville was shared with our tour guide Dean! A different driver just talked about restaurants most of the time.
C Lucey
Highly recommend. Best hop-on-hop-off tour. We’ve taken tours like this in several cities and this was by far the best. “Uncle Ted” White regaled us with historical facts and fun stories. If they aren’t true they should be! This was well worth the price. BTW, we stopped for a full rack of ribs, collard greens, and baked beans after the tour.
Corin Sheehan
The driver was great. He explained Asheville with such great details. It was nice being able to get off and on all day at different stops. The driver made the tour very interesting and enjoyable. Had such a wonderful experience! Would recommend to anyone looking for a tour of Asheville.
Brianna Biondo
My husband and I were visiting from the chicago area, and we traveled to Asheville for our 3 year wedding anniversary! We took this gray line tour since we were unfamiliar with the area. Uncle Ted was our tour guide, and I mean this…it was one of the highlights of our entire trip! Uncle Ted was knowledgeable, humorous, kind, and brought southern hospitality to life during the tour. He gave us great food recommendations, and just made the experience worth it! It was the perfect day to keep the windows of the trolley open so we got crystal clear views of the town and mountains! This is a must-do if visiting Asheville. Ask which trolley uncle Ted will be on, and enjoy!
Elizabeth Koekebacker
We started our tour at 12pm from the Asheville visitor center with a delightful tour guide who had great stories to tell and made us feel welcome. We hopped off at the Hayward Hotel and hopped on again at Grove Arcade to yet another delightful guide with great stories and puns that he shared. Then we hopped off and back on at the River Arts district - South. When we got back on at 4:13pm, the tour guide was not welcoming. He wouldn’t even let us raise the window in the backseat for fear of rain. He treated the tour as if he were a professor in a lecture hall instead of a guide in customer service. I didn’t like how he said to refrain from talking while on the bus. That was extremely rude. None of the other two drivers we got to ride with were as strict or boring as he was. If we come back and tour again and see him on the bus, we’ll wait for the next trolley rather than spend anymore time with him.
Joyone Farmer
One of the best Birthday presents ever. When visiting Asheville I seriously recommend this Trolley Tour. Super educational and super Fun. My driver gave us the ultimate tour. Can’t remember if his name was David or Daniel. Big guy with a beard. I’m sure all of their staff are well educated. Definitely a must do when you visit Asheville.
Petra K.
Highly suggest this tour! The drivers were fun and very knowledgeable. Gene went above and beyond when we were the last ones on the trolly at the end of the day to drop us off closer to a brewery that we were on our way to! Awesome way to see all neighborhoods of Asheville without having to worry about driving or parking. When we went, pick up was every 30 min which gave you plenty of time to check out multiple areas.
Debra Hollifield
The haunted history mystery tour was fantastic! Honey and Trevor were excellent guides bringing the past to life.
The tour was just what we were looking for in a Halloween activity. I highly recommend this tour. Even better than the ghost tours I have taken in Savannah.
Krista Anderson
We had a great experience on the Gray line trolley. Our guide, Mark, was funny and knowledgeable. We got a fun history lesson on the area. We saw houses and things we would have never known on our own and we had the opportunity to get off the places we wanted to to see more. We especially liked the Arts District at stop 8.
Fran Nahabedian
We enjoyed our entire experience of hopping around Asheville. Our first driver, Dean, was just wonderful and kicked off our tour very well. There were a couple of drivers that wore masks (which is fine) and we couldn’t understand them. Both mumbled.
Regardless, we would highly recommend this experience.
Kathi Z
So interesting! The informative, nighttime ghost tour creeped us out sufficiently, but did not cause bad dreams later. I highly recommend this easy-paced trolley tour for the spooky factor, the highlights around an Asheville we wouldn’t have found on our own, and the friendly, deeply invested tour guides.
Katie Thomas
I had the pleasure of taking the Hop On/ Hop Off Tour with David in Asheville both times I rode the Trolley Tour, and he made the experience so enjoyable! I would definitely come back and do this tour again and again just because it’s easy to step off and explore, then get back on and go back to your original spot. Thank you David & Trolley Tours of Asheville! You made the trip so memorable for me!
Carol Robb
A must do when visiting Asheville! A great way to visit the city without the hassle of driving. Our tour guide and driver David was outstanding. He told us very interesting stories about everything on the route. Excellent!
K Bit
We utilized the tour to gain a general understanding of Asheville and the surrounding areas as a stepping stone to plan the remainder of our trip. Our guide was knowledgeable about the area and Asheville’s rich history. He utilized humor and kept us engaged during the hour and forty-five minute tour. We would definitely recommend it if you just have a day in the area or are trying to plan your stay.
Janelle Jolly
The Holly Jolly Trolley Tour was awesome. Our tour guide gave very interesting facts about the area. The musician led us in some great Christmas songs and carols. I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting the Asheville/Biltmore area.
Caroline Finstein
I recently moved to Asheville & wanted to see this beautiful city as a passenger. I learned so much about the history & fun facts about Asheville! Now I'm booked on the Holly Jolly Tour in Dec, yippee!
P.S. all 3 of the drivers I had were awesome! 10 thumbs up!
Lloyd Lee
Whether you are a first time visitor or a local, this tour provides a very comprehensive view of some of the key highlights of Asheville! Tour guides are all very courteous and knowledgeable and the staff at the Chamber were all VERY nice and helpful. This is a must do in Asheville!
Marilyn Romanowski
This tour was a lot of fun. The mix of history with tall tales kept the crowds interest. The prices are reasonable and the jump off , jump on style great for tourists. Was happy as a new local to take the tour with an out of town friend.
Ron Maiden
My husband and I were visiting from Florida and decided to take the trolley tour to see the city. Our tour guide AJ was excellent and told so many interesting facts along the way. We really enjoyed all the sites and felt it was worth the price.
Diana Bessire
We went on a Christmas caroling tour. We were disappointed. They unloaded the bus right where we were all standing, but they drove away. They called one of the people and made all of us go to a different location than where we were told to enter. They also shook a stocking as we were leaving asking for tips. It was very disappointing.
Richard Hughes
Our guide was Uncle Ted White and he was phenomenal. Our company was in AVL for a company wide annual meeting so we opted for the private tour through Lynn Graby of Accents on Asheville (another 5 star experience). Uncle Ted's dynamic story telling skills coupled with his profound love and pride of Asheville and all things Western NC make this tour something you DO NOT want to miss. I'd do it again tomorrow.
Daizy Neri
Had such a great time with Dan the man who showed us all that Asheville has to offer. Even with the pandemic they took precaution and care for us and the overall experience. Highly recommend that you take this tour because it was very informational and scenic and not boring at all. Lots of laughs and very interactive 🙌🏽 …
Eileen Scales
We just finished our ride on GrayLine trolley tours and it was fabulous. So easy to hop on and hop off. Special shout out to “Uncle Ted”! He was the best tour guide ever! He’s a winning combination of knowledge and fun! Thank you again “Uncle Ted”!!!!!
Maria Elena Rubio
The Holly Jolly Tour was full of Christmas cheer! Great stories, Christmas carols, laughs and a great tour of Asheville to go along with all the fun. A don’t miss family experience!
Lucinda Queen
My husband and I took the ghost tour, and it was incredible. Carey, our tour guide, was so knowledgeable about, not just the hauntings, but the history surrounding them. She is an excellent storyteller. If you are a fan of mysteries and haunted history, I highly recommend this tour!
laurie johnson
What a fun way to learn darker history of the town. I would highly recommend this tour. This tour made us realize we need take a ghost tour in every town we visit! Thank you for a fun and informative evening!
Carolyn Knipping
We truly enjoyed our ghost tour trip, with driver Honey and Trevor as our guide. Those two really took our expirience to the next level and we cant thank them enough for the outstanding job they did. They worked very well together and really offered something for everyone, with ghost stories, exciting Ashville history, and even shared personal experiences. My Husband and I agreed that the Grayline trolley Ghost Tour was the highlight of our trip to Ashville, we even preferred it to our visit to the biltmore, and will definitely be returning when were in the area again.
S McHugh
Creepy Carrie and Haunted Honey were hilariously informative. They stopped at each haunted site long enough for us to take pictures and tell their stories with a laugh. It wasn’t a hokey tour —
Holly Jones
I had never been to Ashville before. I'm already planning my next trip thanks to the wonderful guides Gene, Ted and David. I learned about the rich Ashville history peppered with their own family stories. Hopping on and off whenever a stop struck my fancy gave me as a solo traveler the confidence to see and do more. Best way to see and learn all that is Ashville
Elaina Smith
This is one of the best bus tours we've been on! So much great information about Asheville and so fun. Highly recommend!
Janice Torel
We took the ghost tour and the daytime hop on hop off tour. Both were very entertaining and we learned a lot about Asheville! You should definitely give it a try!
Kotran Joseph
We loved the tour! The sights and information was great. Our driver and your guide was great too. He made the trip fun and informative!
Ana Alarcon
I'm glad we purchased the hop on/hop off pass. I'm especially happy that we get to use it twice within 3 days. We were here all day and didn't get to see everything so we will be back. I love the tour guide! This was super informative and so much fun. There's tons of history in Asheville and this is where to start.
Mike LeBoeuf
A perfect way to enjoy the attractions. Your hosts/drivers have prepared a supremely enjoyable presentation on all interesting things Asheville, North Carolina. There are at least seven different stops at which you may disembark and rejoin the next bus at the top of the hour of the next bus of your choice.
Judy Hargrove
Very informative and we loved the fact that we could hop on and off. Worth the cost.
Laurann Pierce
We loved the convenience and ease of taking the Asheville Gray Line tour. I learned a lot about the history and present art decor culture of the city. I only wish that Gray Line would include the YMI Institute on the route, (since it's in the downtown area). The tour guide made NO mention of African -American contributions or involvement in Asheville/Biltmore history !!
Patty Prestemon
"Uncle Ted" was the most entertaining and informative driver we had ever experienced. Being a former history teacher and an Asheville native he gave us the local information and then some in a serious and comical way. We truly enjoyed the 2 hours and hope we have the good fortune to hear him again when the next visitor comes to town.
Cara Schrader
The tour was full of some really great history about Asheville. Both drivers were very knowledgeable and one had some great jokes too
Ann Hildreth
1/25/2020- Matt , really has the knowledge of Asheville NC. The ride was about 90 minutes
I did not get off I just went for the history of Asheville which Matt really knew a lot about the rivers about the Biltmore about the people that really put Asheville on the map is quite interesting
The red trolley bus was clean and plenty a room
Donten Photography
Had a great time on our trolley tour in Asheville. The trolley was a great way to see the city. Not only did the guide do a fantastic job of telling the story of Asheville, the trolley was an easy way to get around the town. The 2-day hop on/hop off ticket allowed us to see what Asheville had to offer without the hassle of navigating the city and finding parking. We have used Gray Line Tours in other cities and the Asheville Trolley Tour lived up to the high expectations we had from our past experiences in other cities.
Jennifer Cipullo
Had a great experience today with our tour guide Dean. Because of Covid, no hop-on/hop-off option , but it was very enjoyable and relaxing driving through the fall leaves and listening to a history of the city. We were also able to bring our dog (<20lbs) on board and she loved sticking her head out the window and seeing all the sights too.
Would recommend for all ages- we’re in our 20-30s and were the youngest on board by quite a bit, but would definitely recommend.
Bob
Enthusiastic and friendly guides. Easy to book and trolley is comfortable and sticks to the schedule Does seem to cover all the important areas of Asheville well so good idea to take the tour as soon as arrive. Would be helpful to have some more stories at the stops and along the way to make the second trip just as informative The last routes of the day were a little difficult to follow on the schedule, specifically the last trolley to get back on to get to the original pick up point. Maybe present the schedules in a table that could be easier to follow
Shahram Ghadimi-Navai
This is a great deal. You can park your car at the Asheville Visitors' Center and take the trolley to all the sights. You get to ride it two days and they even let you take a day off in between! We took the whole tour the first time around and then did the hop-on-hop-off after that. It gave us an idea of all the places we wanted to see. Our tour guides, Michael and Tom, were very nice and knowledgeable.
Melanie Fowler
Uncle Ted was great fun and very knowledgeable. We had a great time during our tour!
Julia Boog
We used Gray Line Trolley for our wedding last month at The Barn at Honeysuckle Hill. We also used it the night before for our rehearsal dinner at Highland Brewing Co. Overall, it was a lovely experience and our guests really enjoyed getting to and from the events using the trolleys. There were a couple communication delays during the planning process and the weekend of, but otherwise it went relatively smoothly and everyone got from point A to B easily! Would highly recommend Gray Line to anyone looking for wedding transportation services.
Sam & Julia Carver
Marcia Findley
An absolute must when visiting Asheville for the first time! We enjoyed the hop on/hop off feature that let us explore when we wanted to. All of the guides were great- especially liked Dean and Matt, but all were knowledgeable and fun. Do this on your first day in Asheville!
Parrish
First time in Asheville, or a frequent visitor, these tours are worth it. Love the hop-on, hop-off aspect. You can get around town all day (second day is free) and enjoy the most popular spots in Asheville. We had some charismatic drives and some not so much, but all was good.
Geoff Johnson
Jaquan was funny and informative! Definitely a fun experience getting to see all of Asheville and learn some history. If I could I would give 4.5 stars because the benches inside the trolly are a bit uncomfortable after a while. Would definitely recommend to tourists!
Stephanie Lovell
Such a fun experience! Was a great Halloween weekend event! Interesting stories and the guide and driver were both amazing! Would definitely recommend!
Candace Armstead
Dean was the best tour guide! He was enthusiastic but also very educational. I learned more from him than I would sitting in a history class. 🤣 It began to rain but the trolley was equipped with roll-down plastic window covers so it was easy to unroll them and keep going. …
Ashley Ouellette
I took the ghost tour. The driver was a total sweetheart and the the guide was amazing. He had the perfect dramatic flare for telling the stories and humor to balance with some of the heavy details.
Maureen H
I have been to Asheville many times, but took the Hop On Hop Off bus this time to save parking hassles. I was really pleased with the excellent overview and colorful stories from all the drivers and the seamless way in which you could pick it up from one driver to another.
Sherry Williams-Basham
Johnny was an amazing guide! We learned so much and really enjoyed our trip! However, we mistakenly thought we would (at least) drive by the Biltmore House, considering one of the stops is the Biltmore Village. It was a let down, to say the least.
Robyn
We had a great time with the Grey Line tour!! The hop on hop off is 100% worth the fee ($33 for two days' fare per person). We had a great time with David and Uncle Ted, who seemed to know every little thing about the area. Great daytime schedule.
Ilse Descher
I took my three younger children on this. I enjoyed learning more about Asheville. I wish the seats had been a little more comfortable. The driver AJ was very nice.
Judy Pulliam
Ed was our driver and such a pleasure. Love his sense of humor and he was so knowledgeable about Asheville. This is a great ride, you won't see or learn the history of Asheville on your own, trolley is a must.
Robin Whitwham
Roughly 90 minutes of genuinely interesting tour, which for the most part is outside of downtown and shows the true character and history of Asheville.
It's worth every penny. What truly made it worthwhile though was the friendliness, extensive knowledge, and great humour of the driver/guide. On my trip it was Matt - what a guy!
Shawn Simmons
Was great all the drivers were fun and knew a lot about the city. Very informative which I had done their ghost tour.
Gregg Deters
The tour lasts about 1.5 hours and well worth every penny! Our trolley drive was a driving, breathing, history book of names and dates. Highly recommend this tour. Our driver was Matt. Awesome!
Jenn Rowlands
The best way to move around the city. We heard something new every time we rode. The drivers are very knowledgeable and fun. The ghost tour was a ton of fun. Scary Carrie and Honey are the best!! Hop on and off as well as Ghost Tour are worth it. Great value!
Elaine Clem
Very informative. We enjoyed our drivers Gene and David. Great way to explore Asheville.
Barbara Glover
The Trolly Tours were so much fun. Very informative, and so easy to jump off, have lunch, then jump back on for the rest of the tour.
Blake Harthcock
Hop on hop off tour worth every penny. We made one trip on the tour without hopping off. Found out what we wanted to do and got off on lap 2. Must do if in Asheville.
jokkerBANG
Lots of fun to ride around in a trolley and hear the unique history of Asheville. The driver was very accommodating and patient. The seats might be a little uncomfortable for some folks like myself for the duration of the ride. But it's definitely worth the experience. I would recommend it to anyone who is unfamiliar with the city's history. They seemed to have done their research. It doesn't go up to the Biltmore, so you won't see that of course. But you will find some beautiful estates and hotels.
Pat Willson
I feel like I know more about Asheville's colorful history than 90 percent of it's citizens! Great safe knowledgeable driver!
Donna J. King
My husband and I really enjoyed this tour! Our original plan was to get on and off the trolley at several stops, however, our driver (Dean) was so knowledgeable and entertaining that we decided to stay on the trolley! Later that day we drove back to several places we wanted to explore on foot. I have visited the Asheville area multiple times and look forward to going back. I highly recommend this tour!
Bradley Frasier
This is an excellent value. I have ridden twice and have experienced 4 different drivers. I love the narration along the way. The drivers are constantly informing you of every historical/architectural detail as you ride along. The seats are a bit rough on my aging back but that's my own problem. Simply get off and enjoy the beautiful sights and jump back on after a stretch. This is a must if you are a newcomer to Asheville. We love it.
Lorri Levine
We had an absolutely fantastic time on our Trolley Tour! This is a must-do for visitors to Asheville. We had a group of 7 ranging in age from 21 to 65, and it was everyone's favorite part of the trip! We had 3 different tour guides, and while all were great, Brian was a stand-out for his colorful narrative, endless fun facts, and effervescent personality. The trolley itself is comfortable, clean, and easy to access. So much area is covered, from Biltmore Village to Grove Park Inn to RAD to fun stops downtown. With frequent drop-offs and pick-ups, all running very punctually, the trolley is the most convenient way to see all of Asheville without worrying about parking, directions, traffic, etc. We can't wait to come back to take the Ghost Tour!
Kimberly Smith
Tour was fantastic!! Michael the tour guide was hilarious!! Learning about the history of Asheville was great and very informative. I would definitely recommend this tour..it took about 1 1/2 hours and had stops along the way.
Ni Ha
This was so much fun. I highly recommend it when you're Asheville. It's great when you want to see the city with two little kids and don't have to haul arounds carseats. Uncle Ted and Aj are amazing tour guide and drivers.
Margi Grimwood
Taking this trolley tour on the first day while in Asheville is a great way to learn about this delightful community and then decided what you want to go back and spend more time at. It is a good orientation, with knowledgeable tour guides. Tom was our guide and he was excellent. He also explained how to hop on and hop off and the schedule, so it made it easy to do this! We got off the trolley at the Grove Park Inn and had lunch and looked around. This was fun to do, and easy to get back on the trolley later.
Heather Randall
We enjoyed our tour with Gray Line. It's so much easier to park for free at the Asheville Visitors Center and hop on the trolley - no hunting for parking downtown. We even left our car there and walked back into downtown for dinner after the tour was over. Well worth the price!
Kirstie Stevens
Uncle Ted did a great job. Very enthusiastic funny made our day. My husband and I had never done anything like it before. It was our first trip to north carolina. Uncle Ted made our first experience the best part of our day. We just wanted to thank him.
Courtney Henning
We took a tour with Matt on a Friday afternoon and it was phenomenal. He was so knowledgeable and friendly, we really enjoyed the sights and learning about the history of the town. Matt made it so enjoyable! He made you feel like you were hanging out with a long time friend!
The troll was also very nice! Clean, well kept, I loved that it was open air!
This is an amazing way to experience Asheville and see what all the city has to offer while learning about the town.
Kelly Von Eyser
What a FUN evening on the bridal trolley honoring Aubrie and Rudy for an After Wedding Celebration with family and friends!! Our friendly driver took us to area breweries as we sang and passed out Poppy popcorn and drank more beer!! What a blast!! Thank you to Gray Line Trolley Tours of Asheville!!!!!!
Matt Watkins
Great deal, if you plan to be around for a few days. Better if you can coordinate your hotel with one of the stops on the tour. You can pay online, so it's easy to get tickets literally anywhere (as long as you have internet access).
We enjoyed our trip with Lynn! A local to the area, she was able to answer many of our questions.
Edna Rugayo
There is an art gallery right next to the square and they have real paintings on display outside. One if those was a Manet. There's also a group of people drawing/ painting under umbrellas. If you are lucky you might enjoy a concert. I happened to be there in the day there was a concert.
Bill Houghtaling
An excellent tour lasting almost two hours. On and off is allowed. Our driver Tom was an excellent guide with many interesting stories.
Carol Heckman
My two-year-old will talk of nothing else but the trolley. We had an excellent tour guide, and my husband and I learned a lot about Asheville and it's architecture. It was a very pleasant way to get the lay of the land.
J Mera
"Uncle Tea" white was a extraordinary tour guide we cought the trolley ride with him at stop nunmber 4. He was informative, funny, and very patient. I recommend the ride to anyone sightseeing Asheville North Carolina.
Julianne Fleischmann
Best way to see Asheville, especially if you don't have a car. I experienced 4 different guides. They were all very knowledgeable and extremely interesting. The bus is open air and very comfortable. Thank you so much!
Dori Japka
Wonderful and informative tour and tour guides. This is a great way to get to know the city of Asheville and all it has to offer.
Clete Flanagan (WNCMOVERS)
The most amazing your of the downtown Asheville area. Learn how Asheville came to be. See the Historic Montford area, Grove Park Inn and Grovewood Gallery, Pack Square, Thomas Wolfe Memorial, River Arts District and Biltmore Village. There are 2 days passes also! "Get On" and "Get Off" at 10 stops around town! Ask question throughout the tour!
Jolina Goad with Jolina does Makeup
My boyfriend and I were traveling from Roanoke, VA to Asheville, NC. We had paid for a 7 o'clock reservation for Friday 4/1/22. We did not make it due to an accident on I81. We called, left a voicemail, and Matt called us to re-schedule. The whole staff is AMAZING! After working in Customer Service for about 30 years-this company knows how to treat real life people and real life situations. If you can request who does your tour I would highly suggest Honey and Carol. The history you'll learn is so cool.

Great time with Honey and Trevor. Perfect amount of time, saw really cool landmarks, stories were definitely spooky.
Amy Riley White
My 10-year-old daughter and I did the haunted tour and the hop on/off tour and LOVED both! Very informative and the tour guides were great. If you do the hop on/off tour, be prepared to spend two days to get it all in.
eric helton
Excellent tour. Michael was our fantastic guide. A great sampling of iconic architecture and a dynamic history of the city. 90 minutes. This is an excellent thing to do first thing, first day to give ideas of what to see, where to go, and most importantly where to eat! Would absolutely do again. =)
Damon Barta
A great tour to get a sense of what Asheville is all about. If you have never been to the city, it is the perfect way to see where everything is and get a good history of the city. Try to get on the bus with Matt.. he was preferable to the other driver.
Kimberlyn Beattie
I love this type of tour on day 1 in a new city for an overall view. Lots of information about the history of Asheville. The driver was a story teller. Highly recommend.
Sharon Fiorini
This tour was the best part of our trip. Uncle Ted was so knowledgeable about the area and funny. We felt we got to see everything in Ashville and went back the next day and saw the city on our own. Very great tour.
Diane Johnstone
Definitely take this tour!! Only about 2 hours and you can hop on and hop off. Every stop is fantastic! Our favorite stop was to explore the Grove Inn - WOW!! Don't miss that! Then downtown Asheville with all of the shops and restaurants. Make sure to have dinner reservations ahead of time. We loved the history lessons on the tour! Johnnie was our guide - he was great!! Also stop 1 - the tourist center is fun for shopping and information. If it is cold you need to wear a jacket as it is open air, which is perfect for taking pictures.
Cindy Montalto
We took this tour back this summer and have been talking about it since. We've gone to Asheville many times, but this trip was our first time taking the tour. Our guide was fantastic; knowledgeable, personable, funny and full of stories about the area we'd never heard before. He also had wonderful suggestions for things to do in Asheville. We went back to Asheville last week and still had a list of suggestions from our tour. This is now on the top of our recommendation list for things to do in Asheville and we hope to take it again soon.
Eric Newton
Our first tour was spent with a self-styled "Uncle" tour driver. He was a character, but not one I liked. You might love him, but he ruined the experience for me. I don't care about music or sports, but I love history. He was enthusiastic about the first two subjects and filled in the last bit with more attempts at humor than I liked. He tried to prompt reactions from riders with questions, which was silly since we'd hardly be heard from the back of the bus. On subsequent rides we liked the drivers and commentary much better. The tour offers a nice overview of what Asheville has to offer. I recommend it and a trip to the visitor center which was very nice. If you find Uncle Foghorn Leghorn annoying, just get off at the first stop and wait for the next bus.
D Kaufman
Informative tour highlighting the most interesting parts of Asheville. Recommend this for any visitor
Judy Rhodes
The very best ghost tour I have ever been on. Uncle Ted was very entertaining!
californiafogg
Great history telling and very friendly drivers (Uncle Ted ftw!), but the trolley itself is closed in. Window seats have blind spits which make it hard to see everything; best option is to get the large open window/side panel seat.
(If Old Towne Trolley was an option, I think we would have chosen them because of the style of trolley)
robert deffenbaugh
Our guide, Bob, was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about Asheville. It was a very enjoyable tour and I would recommend it to everyone.
Dominiek Brown
Great tour. Our tour guide, Matt was excellent and kept us engaged with his sense of humor. We learned a lot and enjoyed ourselves.
JoAn Tintera
We loved the tour! It is such a great place to start to tour the city. The tour guides are local and provide lots of history, and insight into the city's history and places to see. Loved it!
Penn Engebose
My wife and I had a delightful time on the 90 minute tour of Asheville. Our tour guide, Joachim was delightful and pointed out so many wonderful things about Asheville. The tour price was reasonable and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Joachim told us it was only his third time doing the tour, we found that hard to believe as it flowed so naturally. He is a great representative for Gray Line Trolley and the city of Asheville.
Wendy Race
This was a great was to see Asheville on a short trip. The tour guide were funny. Just be aware that they may run late on their picks up and if they are full they have to send another trolly to pick you up. This said if you are a planner and you want to get off and on make sure to add in extra time in case this happens.
claudia henley
Tour guide "matt" was the best story teller that I've had the pleasure of hearing. Love the hop-on-hop-off option.
Holly Brown
We really enjoyed our tour. It was a Saturday and very busy, but they were accommodating and friendly. Our favorite driver was Dean who obviously really loves his job. We learned so much about the area. It’s worth the money to be able to get off and on.
Myriam Asbury
We had a group of 10 and everyone in our group said not only did they have a great time but it was far better than expected! One person said it was like we were in a Hallmark movie! From 3 years old to 81, everyone had a fantastic time and created lasting memories! Kind, entertaining and professional folks from the booking stage till the end! Thank you!!
Stacey Harrington
We had Matt for a tour guide. He was amazing! Loved the tour. I highly recommend taking the trolley around and listening to the history of Ashville before deciding where to go. Wonderful experience!!
Diane Pochmara
Thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Matt as our guide yesterday! It's a great way to hear about the history of Asheville and get to see a lot of the sights that you might miss if you were exploring on your own.
Dori Doerfler
This is a really fun and informative way to explore Asheville. The guides were all great but Uncle Ted was hilarious! So much fun!
Karen Briere
Had a great city tour with David! He was funny, knowledgeable, and gave us an informative and relaxing tour of the city. Even without the chance to jump on and off - we felt we got a great value for the money. This is a must do for anyone new to Asheville and wanting to learn more about the city.
Hamlet Arias
This was a charming tour. We had a terrific guide who explained all the fascinating historical spots and made recommendations for places to eat.
Domo _
We had a blast on the haunted trolley tour tonight! Our guide (I can't remember her name) and driver (Honey) were absolutely the best and sweetest. The ride through downtown was enjoyable and the stories were so interesting. Check in was a breeze, getting on/off the trolley was a breeze. We're so glad we went on the tour. Thank you for such an awesome experience here in Asheville!
Scott McKenzie
We had a really nice time on the holiday tour. The driver and musician were both great. This is an interesting way to see the Asheville lights and have some fun.
Michelle O'Leary
An amazing way to learn about historical Asheville and stop at all the must-see neighborhoods. I especially enjoyed the stop at the art district.
Dylan Solden
We took advantage of the $35 on/off trolley which had stops all around Asheville. It’s good for 2 days so for someone who wants to primarily walk and explore the area it’s really convenient. David was a really knowledge driver who helped make our experience great!
Manuel Henao
We had David as our guide and he was awesome. He was very knowledgeable and cordial. Highly recommended the tour.
Rebecca Tirs
Our tour guide Ed was the best! He was a great historian and made the tour fun with his humor & trivia questions. It was fantastic!
B
We really enjoyed our tour, our driver was very knowledgeable and entertained us with her stories. Thank you for a great experience.
John Pantel
I’m usually skeptical of touristy things like this but this was awesome!! I would totally do it again thanks Trevor you are amazing!!
Gail Benson
My husband and I did a weekend getaway and had a few hours with nothing planned. The trolley tour was a perfect way to spend 90 minutes! Lynn was an absolute joy and truly knows and loves her city of Asheville. I highly recommend this tour for anyone!
RoseMarie Pronovost
As new Asheville residents, we decided to take the 90 min trolley tour and we loved it!
Our Tour Guide/driver, Dean was funny and exceptionally knowledgeable about the important people and places that make Asheville such a special city. It certainly increased our appreciation and knowledge ,
and we will return with others to take it again.
Talece Y Hunter
I cannot think of one negative thing to say about the Gray Line Trolley Tours of Asheville. The location of the stops are perfectly situated for touring beautiful Asheville. Gray Line Trolley Tours of Asheville has a friendly and accomodating staff. "Uncle Ted" is the BEST DRIVER AND TOUR GUIDE EVER!!! He is very funny!
Deb Hall
The tours are informative and their customer service is excellent.
Phoebe Isaacs
The trolley is such an amazing value and experience. Travelling to various areas of Asheville in style, with a cool breeze and a charming host is the best way to live.
The hop on and off feature is fantastic. Also, one reservation nets two days of riding! They can even be separated by a day.
James Perry
The tour guides were very informative and it's a nice, leisurely way to get the lay of the land. However, I would definitely suggest taking the entire route first before deciding where to get off. The historic arts district is not very accessible and not even easily walkable with the torn up sidewalks and construction. Would have skipped that and just done Biltmore Village and the Grove Mall if I had it to do over again.
Mitch Swergold
This tour was excellent! Dean was a very knowledgeable, nice and very funny tour guide! We went on a kind of dreary, rainy day and he really livened it up. they also do a great job of keeping things very sanitary, cleaning all the trolleys between each tour, seating people only every other seat (bench) and with windows open when appropriate. Very worthwhile and a lot of fun!
Stephen Fuhrmann
Had a great time on the trolley tour. So much history to Asheville that was unknown and was able to see so much more of the city than just where we were staying on vacation. Highly recommend the trolley tour and would also be interested in the haunted trolly.
Ahmad McIntosh
We had good time on the tour with Uncle Ted. He is very knowledgeable and funny, and can drive that bus like nobody's business. The tour is a great way to see some of Ashville especially if you have no idea about where to begin. Highly recommended.
Ben Hotelling
Had a great time with the whole family. Highly recommend!
James Quigley
Very nice tour, well worth the price. The driver was fun and knowledgeable and you could tell he loves his job. He also is a local so he knew alot.great job matt.
Synclair Gonzalez
Super fun and spooky tour! Our tour guide was phenomenal.
Bryan Wojciechowski
Great tour throughout most of Asheville. I recommend doing an entire loop first then stopping at certain locations after you complete your first loop, to get the full experience.
Samantha Regan
Fun, great experience! The tour guides did a great job.
L Scheid
We felt very taken care of when we arrived for the 11:00 we bought, and the first driver said he had no more seats since it was a hop on hop off. The coordinators at the Visitor Center accommodated us by bringing another bus out and suddenly the new bus was half full! Or driver Walt was very good. Humorous and well spoken, and though I'd lived in Asheville sixteen years, the route he took was perfect. I like that they take you to River Arts district. I also liked how candid he was, asking people in a funny way not to talk over him, because others paid money to ride. It's an excellent deal because it's fully narrated, and you get to hop on for two more days.
Bill Brown
Outstanding! Michael was our guide and he was very informative with his knowledge of the city and presented it with just the right amount of humor. If you plan on visiting Asheville the tour is a must. The on/off option allows you to stop at any site and re-board to continue the tour. My suggestion would be to take the complete tour then stay on the trolley and jump off at one or more of the sites you were interested in the first time around. Again, thank you Michael for a great tour!
John Aiken
Liked the Christmas tour, but Asheville residents need to decorate more if this tour is to continue. Also, this is not a tour to bring a screaming toddler on. It ruins the experience for everyone on the bus.
Brandon Krout
We did the hop on / off tour and the drivers were great. We enjoyed the knowledge and stories of the area. Would recommend this to anyone wanting to tour the area.
dana moses
This is an absolute great way to see a lot af Ashville in a limited amount of time. Let them do the driving and you enjoy the sights! Open air trolley. Can get off and on at stops. Trolley has the last stop to the visitor center at 5:30pm. Watch the schedule they give you. Highly recommend.
Tee Gee
My friend talked me into this tour. Good call! We enjoyed touring the city, hearing about the rich history of the homes, landmarks, celebrities, artists, writers, etc. Our driver/tour guide was the best. He made sure to engage with us throughout 'til we all felt like old friends on a ride. So worth it! Don't forget to tip! 😊 …
Selene Fabiano
I got the Hop-on, Hop-off tour which gives you a lot of flexibility. A friend and I had only planned to ride a few stops and get off and walk for a bit but we liked Matt, our driver/guide so much that we stayed on for almost an hour. Matt was a very engaging guide. He had a lot of interesting and informative stories and engaged the group by asking us questions from time to time. Matt shared that he had grown up in Asheville and his appreciation for Asheville's history, architecture, and natural beauty was infectious. His pace of sharing information was just right. The price of the tour was money very well spent.
Joyce Blythe
Great time on the trolley ride learned the local history and got to go down town without paying for parking and having to fight traffic. Worth every penny. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Asheville.
Harry Dollahan
Great tour the guide really knows her Ashville history and was genuinely funny.
Gene Blair
Excellent tour of Asheville North Carolina. Scott, our host was unbelievably knowledgeable and informative about asheville. Good sense of humor. We learned more in that hour and a half then we could have learned on our own in 2 weeks.
Excellent price for what you get. Great way to start at the very beginning so you know the places you want to go back to.
Nick Lane
UNCLE TED IS AWESOME!!
Started this off with that because it’s true. An absolute wealth of knowledge of his beloved Asheville. Funny and friendly. Made us and everyone on the tour feel like we were long time friends. Not once were we uncomfortable with the stories or the ride. He could handle that trolley like no body’s Business ! Pointing out restaurants and places to go see after the tour was a great asset ( local knowledge is everything). We went to a couple of places he suggested and we were not disappointed. If you are looking to have fun and learn a little history as the same time I definitely suggest that you take the tour with UNCLE TED HE’S AWESOME!! Thanks Ted
Melisa Lowery
We did the 90 minute tour. Got there early and they let us go ahead and join the next trolley tour. Our driver was Dean. He was very polite, knowledgeable and funny! I would highly recommend this tour!
Jaguar Palmer
Very informative, was fun to learn a little history about Asheville. Michael the driver was great, had some fun stories to tell the tour. Trolley was clean, and the visitor center had information on pretty much anything you could want to do in town.
Lisa Lindsay
I’ve been in Asheville for several years. This was an exceptional way to see our beautiful city and learn the history of our amazing town. Our guide David was fantastic. Definitely worth the time.
Barbara Engro
We had a wonderful tour today with Dean as our tour guide. He is very knowledgeable about the area's rich history. We did the hop off tour and got off for lunch and then back on with Dean again to finish the tour. It was wonderful !!
Allen Franklin
My wife took 3 of our daughter's to Asheville for a girls weekend. They loved this tour ! Said it was one of the best ghost tours they had been on.
Joy Hebebrand
90 minutes of interesting information. Social distancing on the trolley. Our tour guide Matt was terrific. Clear, informative with the right touch of funny. We learned a lot and saw parts of Asheville we may not have seen otherwise.
Sam Parsons
Very much enjoyed the tour. I highly recommend it
Herb Riley
The Gray Lines Tour of Asheville was tremendous. Every time my wife and I travel to a new city we always prefer to take a Gray Lines tour of the city. The Asheville was nothing short of a vibrant and insightful overview of history, architecture and unique personalities from the mid-1800's to today. It could not have been articulated any better than by our tour guide, Dean. Dean gets our 5 star rating or our A+++. Thank you, Dean. He knows Asheville, North Carolina!!
P K
What a great way to tour Asheville. They give a tour of all the historic places and also go through downtown. I got to see everything I wanted to. The guide on the bus was entertaining and also really informative. It was relaxing and well spent time and money.
Victoria Wilkes
We did the tour 2 times the day we visited getting on and off to see the sites and take pictures of beautiful places. Learned so much interesting things about Asheville. All 4 tour-guides we have met were so different and so enthusiastic about the city they were talking about. The staff at the visitor center was very pleasant and friendly. We had a great time. Thank you!
John Kurton
A great way to get around Ashville with this hop on hop off service. We had 3 different drivers each were very knowledgeable and entertaining in their presentations.
Andrew Latham
Worth the tour. Learned a lot about Asheville from very knowledgeable drivers. The hop on/off was great for grabbing food downtown without have to navigate and find parking.
Kati Robinson
Perfect way to see the city of Asheville and learn all kinds of interesting facts about the city! The trolley drivers were super knowledgeable and fun which made it an even vetter trip! My husband and I jumped on and off at different parts of the city and ate at a few places the drivers recommended! If you're visiting Asheville for the first time it's definitely a perfect activity!
linda carter
Gene was a great host! We had a great time.
Rawchell Carter
Visited my sister in Asheville and she said that this was the best way to see and learn about the city. Matt was our guide. He was so knowledgeable about the history of the city and entertaining. It was chilly but the trolley's windows were closed and the heat was on so we were comfortable. We didn't take advantage of the hop-on/hop-off feature due to the chilly weather but that's an option if you'd like to explore on your own.
Stu Schulman
All was great until we were left at a stop for 45 minutes because 1 of the trolleys did not come to the stop we were at when scheduled. Probably would not have been an issue except the stop was at a location that did not provide shade and was not downtown...was frustrating having no way to call anyone to notify them. Took 30 min of calling the visitors center to have them tell the trolly desk to take our call. Not fun doing all that in 95 degree heat!.
Beverly Johnson
We had a great experience. It gave us an opportunity to see the city and determine which places we wanted to return to during our visit.
Tammy
I've been on many trolley tours in different cities. Some really good and some... not so much. It all depends on the individual drivers. This tour was okay. I think the driver should have stuck more to the history...too much time was spent cracking jokes.
Joshua Harrison
This was a great experience! A trolley ride, historical tales, and caroling packed all in one night! Definitely recommend this and all other trolley tours. Can't wait for the haunted one!
Jeffrey D Johnson
Paid for the full "Hop on-Hop off' tour. Well worth it and you can use it 2 days. We made 4 stops and her enthusiastic stories from 4 different drivers.
Jacqueline Burleson
We had a great time on the trolley. The drive was very knowledgeable of the area and made the trip really fun!! Can’t wait to go on another tour when it’s warmer outside.
Cody Ramel
At river arts district. South side of the circle heading to north side at 11:00. Driver blew by stop. Brochure said we could get trolley at 11:05.
Thank you for the reply. The tour is very nice. Next time we’ll not trust brochures. I updated my review.
Linda Spates
No hop on hop off due to Covid, masks required on trolley. Very good 90 minute tour with lots of area history and details. We went on our own afterwards to the River Arts District and a filling and delicious late lunch at 12 Bones Barbecue.
Debbie Moore
I really enjoyed the trolley tour which covered much of the city. Our tour guide, Dean, was very knowledgeable about the history of the city and it's famous present and past residents. He has a great personality and made the tour fun and interesting.
Crystal Purple
My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time on the haunted tour. We learned a lot about the history of asheville and the reported paranormal experiences. The tour guide and driver were funny and had an upbeat personality. The only negative notes were that you had to go into a very crowded pub to get the tickets, I would suggest the driver or someone at the trolley scan in customers. Additionally the trolley was very crowded with small seats. I would suggest having assigned seating at time of purchase to make sure groups can sit near each other. Overall this was a wonderful experience and I am very satisfied.
Tammy Bradford
Dean was our tour guide and he was very knowledgeable and informative about the history of Asheville and its most prominent citizens
He answered all our questions and had a great sense of humor!
Lane Ulrich
We have been on this tour twice in 2018. We like to take tours of places because it just gives that overview of the city. In the Spring and then late August we got the same driver! He is a middle school teacher (Brian? maybe). Incredible. He is funny, very informative. Even hearing his spiel twice I loved it. The second time I was with my mom and was very pleased to have be entertained and informed. Ask for him, you won't be disappointed (you can ask inside the visitor center where you buy the tickets)
Melinda Whitehurst
Awesome way to see different parts of Asheville. Informative and friendly drivers. Great to get on and off while touring different areas of town.
chamelle mitchell
We absolutely loved this tour!! We had such a good time!! We didn’t see any ghosts but it still great all
the same!! Recommend this tour for anyone to take!
James
Good way to learn the history of the beautiful place in person. Tour guide was helpful, informative and friendly. The tour lasts a good time and you get to see some interesting architecture. I learned more about Asheville on this tour than anyway else beforehand.
Definitely a must do
Philip Holland
Lynn was fantastic. Would go again just because the added humor made the ride so enjoyable.
Nicole Spetoskey-Gault
Great experience, learned about the history too and entertaining! Definitely recommend!!
Peggy Hunter
What a wonderful way to see Asheville! Our drivers were both entertaining and shared alot of information about the area. We're so glad we chose Gray Line Trolley!
Drew Petzold
The Gray Line Trolley Tours of Asheville is located at the Asheville Visitor Center in the downtown portion of the city. It's fairly easy to get to from Interstate 240. You won't necessarily see anything about them on the outside, except for maybe seeing some trolleys there.
When you come into the visitor center there will be an area to check in and get tickets/stickers for the Gray Line Trolley Tour. There wasn't a wait, so we were immediately serviced when we went up to their section there. They asked us if we were looking for tickets for the trolley, and of course we were. We paid for the tour and then explored the visitor center for about a half hour as we just missed the trolley that had just left. We were also be given a brochure with info on each of the ten stops, as well as the pick up times from each of those stops. Also, you can use that ticket/sticker for a second consecutive day and also for a discount on their ghost tour.
Once the next trolley was here, it was time to board and explore the city of Asheville. Our guide for this trip was Tom. He noted he'd been working there for about a year. Our plan was to do a full loop of the tour before starting to get off and explore the different stops. However, during the ride, the weather turned and it was pretty wet outside for the duration of the trip, so we ended up not getting off at all. For this experience, after seeing other reviews, I thought we'd get a lot more info about Asheville as we toured, but there were many points during the travel where it was just quiet and could probably hear yourself think. For this tour, we both thought we didn't get our money's worth out of it this time, but would try again in the future with a different driver/guide. At least for this visit, I would give it two stars. The overall rating reflects the overall experience for this and the ghost tour, which we did as well.
In the evening, we decided to take the evening ghost tour. We purchased the discounted tickets inside the Pack's Tavern with one of their representatives. After that, we were on the trolley for the tour, which stars and ends there at Pack's Tavern in Downtown Asheville. Our guide for this evening tour was Honey. She was awesome. I learned a lot more about Asheville, and of course the haunts too, from this tour than I did during the daytime trolley. Many of the places we stopped at for the ghost tour were also stops for the daytime trolley tour, and in pretty much the same order. We learned about the Pink Lady at the Grove Park Inn, an arson, and even an unsolved murder. We even went by Thomas Wolfe house, were Honey told us about paranormal activity that occurs there at night, such as rockers moving with nobody in them, lights going on and off, and so forth. In the end, this ghost tour was awesome. Honey was funny and very informative. I would want to have her as my guide during the day too, if she does the regular tours during the day as well.
Based on the overall experiences the final review for me is three stars, with two stars for the daytime trolley tour and five stars for the ghost tour. The ghost tour should be an absolute must do if you're also visiting this area. For the daytime hop on and off tour, I think the experience would have been better with a different guide and better weather too. If I am in the area again in the future, I would definitely do both again. Either way, it's a great way to see the city of Asheville.
Carol Greening
Wonderful guides, and i am so glad we got the 2 day hopper. Learned from every driver we used. We took the trolley to each section of town we wanted to explore, then hopped back on in 2 hours. Well worth the cost, parking can be a nightmare in Asheville
Gigi Manthey
Our tour guide was great! I think her name was CJ. We learned a lot about the city and got some ideas of where to go. They can't do the tours where you get on and off right now but it was a great way to spend a rainy afternoon. I look forward to do more tours the next time we visit.
Mary McNay
We got off at two stops, so we were able to experience three drivers. Each was excellent. Apparently, the drivers are school teachers so they speak clearly and really know the city and the historic. I highly recommend this tour. I'd even do it again! Allow time for stops, especially on Saturday when there are so many different activities (street markets and entertainment) in various locations.
David Ball
This made all the difference and wanting to stay another day at Asheville. I think I may start doing this kind of tour in any City where they have it available, unless I already know my way around like San Francisco and New Orleans. Lots of great sites to see, bus drivers were great storytellers with lots of history and current info. It was a wise investment of my money and time
Gail Pilmore
Awesome tour guide! Very clean and well run!
Janice Samsa
We did the ghost tour and the history tour. Both were great information and fun. It is so nice to have someone do the driving so we both could enjoy the scenery and information.
Bill Kingsley
We totally enjoyed the tour and wish we could have taken it earlier as it provides a great pallet to work with to fill In the pieces of a memorable and enjoyable visit. I would recommend this tour be among the first things you do when I'm Asheville. You won't regret it.
Julie Dichtl
David is a knowledgeable tour guide who shared lots of interesting information about the history of Asheville and places to visit. We enjoyed the tour.
Ric Rini
If you want to get the lay of the land then this is prefect for you. I would take the tour as soon as you arrive to get a good feel of the city before you start your trek.
For us it ended up being the best $24.00 dollar investment. Book the 90 minute tour as soon as you arrive that way you can get a great lay of the land and it will take into all the cool sections of Asheville all at the same time being narrated by the bus driver. When you finish it will give you a good idea as to what areas you may want to spend more time at.
Craig B
Excellent tour and made even more excellent by “Uncle Ted”. Uncle Ted grew up in the area and pointed out many key places to see while adding his musical talents to the tour - our kids loved it!! As we visit the Hendersonville and Asheville area often to escape the FL heat, we have been fortunate to encounter Uncle Ted on many occasions. He helps make the trip! Well worth the money for the trolley - leave your vehicle safely at the visitor center and the trolley takes you to all of the hot spots in town!
Ron Welk
Informative driver. He had great knowledge. Areas toured were diverse and provided a varied perspective of the coty.
Charlene Nelson
Great tour with Honey and Cat. Lots of great stories and interesting places we would not have made it to on our own. Adding to the tour were wild turkeys, a black bear and two cubs raiding the garbage at a private home.
Wish we had done the day tours. A definite must next time.
Robert Wilson
Had a great experience with Michael driving our trolley bus through Asheville. Very knowledge about the area and has a huge amount of stories to tell. Certainly made our trip to the mountains a good one. Thank you.
Teresa Law
The drivers tell wonderful stories of the history of Ashville and they share insight about restaurants and points of interest! They are delightful people with entertaining personalities! The trolleys are also a great way to avoid parking and traffic!
David Shuler
First time getting to play tourist in my town. The driver kept a running dialogue the whole trip. I learned a few things. It was a great way to spend a lazy afternoon. The weather was perfect. Definitely worth doing if you are visiting Asheville
ava lazzaro
Loved the trolley ride. Our tour operator was so knowledgeable about Ashville history.
F Maney
Family came over from TX and we took the tour one day. Matt was our guide and he was great. He knows lots of stuff. For two of us it was our second time and this one was just as much fun as the first.
marie laidler
Dean was an amazing guide and extremely knowledgable about the city. It was a fun, informative, and humorous 90 minutes. We learned a lot and saw places in the city we never would have found on our own.
Jess Ingles
Our driver was Kathy. Very knowledgable and witty, without overdoing it. We stayed on the entire tour, though you can exit and wait an hour for the next bus to arrive. I took notes and plan on using our second free day (which doesn't need to be consecutive) to have the trolley be our shuttle to a couple of the locations and avoid parking fees. We took the tour our first morning of vacation in Asheville. I thought I had a good plan of action, but this gave us new attractions we want to see and also made me cross a few things off of our list.
We took our two and a half year old and he was pretty entertained by looking out the window for the whole ride. We went in December, so the plastic sides were down; I imagine the ride would've been much less toddler-friendly if I had to be trying to keep him from falling out of the windows.
Recommend.
Audrey Robuck
The trolley was great. The guides were awesome too. It started raining so we had to put the plastic down on the window. That was an unavoidable annoyance. We had a lovely time..
kelly fanning
This was an amazing experience. Honey and Trevor were both so genuine and entertaining. I would highly recommend this tour!
Michelle Rogers
"Uncle Ted" and all the employees were entertaining and informative. We would definitely recommend to anyone who would like to get a broad overview. We, also, did the Haunted trolly tour. It was really cool!
Rick Lupton
Best city tour, can hop on and off at various places, great history and facts shared by the driver
Brianna Lamb
It was so much fun!! My husband and I learned so much about Asheville’s history and got to visit so many neat places.
Beatrice B
We had the pleasure of riding with two different drivers and both were very knowledgeable about the area. They were founts of information about the buildings and homes and the people who built them. Plenty of anecdotes made the tours interesting and fun. Many thanks!!
Shirley Duke
All three of our drivers/tour guide were very informative and knowledgeable. Steve was our first guide and it was obvious that he enjoyed his job. Ted was truly entertaining. I would give all three a high 10!!
Shannon Ludwig
We signed up to do the 2 day tour. Day 1 was awesome, our guide, Michael was entertaining...so. Ugh so that we didn't use the hop on, hop off feature! Day 2 was a different story...we arrived at the visitor's center about 20 minutes prior to the 2:30 tour. We checked in at the inside booth. At 2:30, we didn't hear the announcement that the tour was starting. (Day 1, with a crowd of people inside, we heard an announcement). On day 1, we were informed that sometimes the trolley runs late, because of traffic in Asheville, so, on day 2 we really didn't think too much that we hadn't heard an announcement. About 10 minutes go by, no announcement (keep in mind, there wasn't even 10 people inside the center this whole time). We have overheard the booth telling a family that the tour that would be starting next, didn't have the hop on hop off feature, as it was the last tour leaving for the day. We then asked where the 2:30 tour was at, and was told it had left. We asked if there had been an announcement; no one heard it, and a staff said this wasn't the first time this guide did this. We reminded them that we checked in for the 2.30 tour, and they remembered. It's difficult to understand how the driver left without us, as a headcount us given prior to the tour. We were informed we could have an extra day; unfortunately we had plans. Professionally, if it's known this driver doesn't always follow protocol, then it needs to be addressed, and additional plans put into place to assure this does not happen again. We are reasonable people, and we understand things happen, and it was later in the day that we wanted to use the tour. That does not dismiss the fact that the driver did not follow protocol, resulting in leaving 2 confirmed passengers behind.

A must do! An extremely entertaining and informative trip through local history. Highly recommend!!!
Robin Thompson
Thoroughly enjoy the Gray Line Trolley Tour of Asheville. Fun to hear all the secrets and stories and history of the town. Definitely worth the money.
Isaiah A
Great way to start off your vacation in Asheville. Helps you understand where everything is and how things came to be around there. Our tour guide, Larry, was very knowledgeable and personable. Well worth the money.
Trey Barclay
Haunted ghost tour was alot of fun! Uncle Ted and Honey were a great team, they made the tour....on a side note, they also did a good job as far as covid safety. Highly Recomend this tour.
Timothy March
I took the tour on to different days with two different friends. We had two different tour guides who gave each their own unique set of stories and information. Even if you've taken the tour before, I recommend taking it again with a different guide! It was wonderful and both of my friends enjoyed it.
Don Neal
Good way to see Asheville as you can get on and off the trolley at any of the stops with trolleys coming by every half hour. Our trolley driver was like a history book about Asheville with lots of local lore and history details as well as the history of the houses and buildings.
Judy Byers
On December 21st our tour guide was Matt, a native of the area gave us a very informative tour adding a few unknown facts in a humorous way. Good driver and entertainer making it a memorable event. Any questions we had, he knew the answers.
Doug
Great way to see and learn about the city. Hopped on & off several times so had a few drivers. All the drivers were great!
Claus Ihlemann
Our tour guide AJ, we as amazing. Provided great information during the tour and was very friendly and engaging.
The tour is a great way to get familiar with the area
Rhonda White
Awesome tour. Driver very friendly open to customers asking alot of questions and super knowledgeable about the area. Downside seats are very small and hard. Not good for a 90 min. Ride.
Christina Bello
This was an enjoyable way to see a great deal of Asheville. Our bus driver was very knowledgeable. The stops we're in good locations and the ride was comfortable. I would say it was worth the price!
Wayne Olles
The tour was very informative and helpful to figure out what we wanted to do next. Tom was a great tour guide and even had good joke along the way. Would recommend this to anyone visiting Asheville.
Bob Lamb
We started our trip to Asheville by getting a tour of the city on the Gray line probably. Tom, our guide, did a wonderful job showing us the sites and telling us stories about the city. It could not have been a better start to our trip.
Patricia Cochran
Excellent way to start a visit to Ashville. You get a wonderful over view of the history, the architecture and the personality of the city. Our tour guide was wonderful
Martha Taylor
Our experience taking the tour was not pleasant, but I do not fault Gray Line for this. I assumed that the tour would be kid-friendly as the website did not state otherwise. I was shocked when the driver gave extremely graphic details about women killed in a fire as well as info about mistreatment of mental patients. It seemed this info could have been omitted with a 3 year old on board. We left the tour early for this (and other reasons). When I called Gray Line after to discuss my situation they were very accommodating. It seems the level of detail shared by our driver was not typical. I recommend calling and talking to Gray Line if you will be riding with children (or are sensitive to graphic info). They will help you pick a driver/guide that will be a better fit.
Jim Boyd
Had a great day on the Asheville trolley hop off hop on. Uncle Ted was amazing. Informative and entertaining. The visitor's center is also top notch.
D Cooper
If I had to do it all over I would skip the Trolley tour of Asheville and spent the ticket money on something else. In my opinion there is just not a whole lot to see or points of interest for a trolley tour. I believe 3 out of the 9 stops were at typical chain hotels. Of interest, we drove past the river arts district where the points of interest were a few shops and a bbq joint. The ride was rather boring and could have been in just about Anytown, USA.
The driver was friendly as were the staff at the Visitors Center.
Lena Vandevander
Michael, our tour guide was amazing 👏 …
Clayton G
Informative and enjoyable. Dean was a great guide; knowledgeable and witty. They currently don't offer "hop on hop off" which would suit our family more.
Heather MacKintosh
Love love the driver Micheal worth waiting for him ,his story telling will have you laughing and joining in, the best way to see a good portion of Ashville and take the trolls again to do the hop on and hop off so you can take in the shops and the food
Terry Hall
I liked it very much, our tour guide was great, He also cared enough about the rest of us to ask for no cell phones ringing on the tour. Good job. It is great to see a guide excited about the information he is sharing with you.
Marilyn Pugh
A group of 29 of us did the sight-seeing tour. They were wonderful to work with in advance and the driver, David, was absolutely the best 👌. …
Michael Walker (KarmalKnowledge)
Informative sight seeing tour around Asheville. Enjoyable way to spend the day and learn about this city.
C C Franklin
We learned a lot of spooky Asheville history.

Took a trolley ride on Sat the 4th of July, with a wheelchair bound family member. So happy with the customer service of the company, accommodating the wheelchair and family to that everyone could ride. The tour guide was sensational!!.. He stated he had been working there for 10 years, and was a school teacher.. He made the trip very educational, he made lots of jokes and kept everyone's attention 100% throughout the ride. He threw in lots of recommendations to local eateries and local merchants as well.. I learned ALOT about the town in which I recently moved to, and look forward to another trolley ride in the VERY near future!!! Hats off to all involved!! (even the ticket sales people were super friendly and eager to assist, and answer any questions!)
Jill Steele
When you buy your trolley tix at the Visitors Center, ask if “Uncle Ted” White is working a shift and if you can WAIT for his run - a native of the area who’s informative, smart, humorous without being arrogant, and just a lot of fun to listen to...we had 3 drivers in 2 days and he was the best!! I’m not a ‘tipper’ but he got mine! 6 stars.
Logan McLaughlin
Grayline Asheville Trolly was a great experience! It was very educational and historical. You got to visit a lot of different places and got a lot of information about those places! The trolly driver was very friendly and informed about the area.
Juli Goff
Professional, informative, punctual tour...one of the best city tours I have experienced! The driver was truly a storyteller, Michael, and was a delight. The trolley was itself a fun ride.
Ron McCurdy
A very entertaining and informative ride. My opinion, take the tour the 1st day you arrive. We didn't know how much we had missed before.
Dorée Mortillo
Don't hesitate it's 52 bucks for 2 people for 2 days! Btw...free parking at the visitors center (1st stop). Considering we spent half our time looking for parking and paying for it, I wish we had done this the first day! Michael is our guide! Has great! Funny and informative.he actually talked the whole trip! Answered all questions with great answers that were funny, true and very clear. Loved him. Great way to see this city. We take the hop on hop off in every place we go.. Rome, paris, london,ny,chicago etc..now Asheville! Best one yet.
Don Tyson

Matt is a wonderful story teller! Great thing to do if you don't want to drive around to find things to do in AVL. The wonderful, rich history and sights of AVL are so nice to learn about while riding in the trolley.
Adriana R
I would 100% recommend! Did the hop on hop off option. Since we got off at a couple of stops and got back on we had several different tour guides; all were great! Got to see places and hear historical information that otherwise I wouldnt have.
Emily Wood
We had an awesome tour with Carol and Honey. The tour was very entertaining and informative! Would most definitely recommend!!
Virginia Nannini
Hop On/Hop Off Tour guides very informative with information. They keep all Trollies going and call more if Trollies get crowded. Great system. Really enjoyed especially the history which they continually informed in detail.
Sarah Acosta
We had a wonderful tour. Our tour guide Matt was great! Tours are a great way to see new things and learn about a city.
Blair Madren
Superb accounts of local history, real estate and murder in the Ghost stories & hop-on/off tours. Tour guides that should be tipped and a great demonstration of the local uniqueness.
Thomas Arthur
This is a typical Greyline tour, the right stops, the trolleys were clean, and the guides/drivers knowledgeable. We have taken many of the Grayline tours, and find them first rate. They have the Get On / Get Off option which is great. Why the three stars? We were with four drivers, and none of them wanted to answer questions. The narration was so focused on time, distance, and so canned, even the jokes took place at the right corners. If a question was asked, it was given a brief gloss over, and the canned speech continued. Unlike all other of the many wonderful Greyline tours we have taken, this one might have as well used a tape playback system. Again, well run, clean, the right stops, just no personalization.
A Enoch
We had an amazing tour guide Uncle Ted and very knowledgeable about the city and its History! Would definitely reccomend as something you'd have to do before leaving the city..

Charles Willis
Loved the Trolley tour and they treated us well. I felt safe unlike walking downtown. Downtown was very disappointing so the Trolley worked for us.
Kim Bell
I had a prior review and wanted to update: the company made it 'right' and refunded the fee 100%, promptly and courteously! Thank you so much for doing the right thing and going above and beyond. We must have just hit town on a 'off' day, with staff shortages or high tourist volume. Thanks again! Very professional!
Carolyn Crisp
