Reviews of Routes Bicycle Tours & Rentals

I'm a teacher traveling with my family and a small group of students from St. Louis during our Spring Break. I stumbled upon Routes Bike Tours after our trip pricing had been set, but paid out-of-my-own-pocket to make this happen... and it was awesome! The owner was easy to work with and even led our tour himself. Our 2 hour tour was great for cyclists of all abilities and everyone in my group enjoyed it! Highly recommend!!

We enjoyed a fun and memorable day with Routes touring around to local wineries on our bikes celebrating a Bachelorette Party. Delicious wine, good food, great company and fun tour guides. This is the perfect activity for a Birthday, family get together, bachelorette party or just a day out!
Jeff Burgess
Highly recommend the Breaking Bad bike tour. The friendly guide was knowledgable about local history and you don't have to be a Breaking Bad fan to enjoy the tour. We learned a lot about Albuquerque and visited interesting spots like Old Town Farm and various shooting locations from Breaking Bad eg Jesse's house and a murder scene along the river. The bike route next to the river was a lot of fun. Unlike a walking tour, with a bike tour you get to see much more of a city like Albuquerque and it is a great way to learn about a place in a short time. 5 out of 5.

We loved our snow-shoeing expedition on 1/22/2023 atop Sandia Peak with Routes Bicycle Tours! Josh and Bob were terrific guides –– friendly and experienced. We'll def do this again!

We rented bikes to ride the Bosque Trail. All the staff were friendly and helpful and gave us a map with spots marked for off trail visits. The map is really good. I wish we had the same in Austin. We got the electric bikes and would have to say it wasn't necessary given the flat terrain. Plus the electrics seem to take off fast and are hard to control, especially on turns. Just get a regular bike is my 70 year old advise!

I was over in Albuquerque working and went to Route Bicycle Tours and Rentals to hire a bike and attempt the ride up Sandia Crest. Meet with Luke a few times, he was really friendly and gave me a lot of tips for cycling around. Hired a couple of Canondale's for myself and a colleague, they were in great order. Luke even made sure I was re-hydrated after the ride as I was looking a little worse for wear! Definitely recommend to anyone looking to hire some bikes over there.

Great experience renting a bike here. Josh was awesome in helping me choose the best bike for my trip up and down the river trail, He also gave me a map and spent 5 min describing and marking the best stops and other pointers which made the ride MUCH better than it would have been otherwise. 100% recommend!

Helpful staff gave us a map with lots of ideas for stops and sites on our bike adventure. Bikes were quality bikes that have seen a lot of miles but still work great. Highly recommend renting bikes from Routes Bicycle while you are in ABQ.
Samantha Sharp
Great service, great bikes, and very well priced. We really enjoyed our bike ride on the Albuquerque river path and appreciated all the advice and recommendations from Joshua. Would recommend and rent bikes from here again!

This is a beautiful little bike shop in a historic building on a quiet side road. I rented a cruiser here to ride along the river, and the staff were extremely helpful and provided all sorts of suggestions for my ride. This is the kind of local shop that makes you love the ride even more and feel like you are part of the community.
Maria
Very reasonable rates and friendly staff. This is in a great area near all the shops in Old Town and not far from the bike path. The rental process was quick and smooth and the deposit was quickly refunded after the bike was returned. Thank you for helping me make my trip a memorable one 😌 …

Super friendly and helpful. Great bike got our crew to top of Sandia Peak (and back!)

The absolute best! Rented hybrid bike for me & wife did an electric. Locks & helmets included. Super helpful, friendly & knowledgeable. We biked to the petroglyphs and Google maps had us on normal roads, they directed us on bike friendly trails & provided a map. We had a great experience. Highly recommend.

I brought my bike to get serviced and this is a phenomenal bike shop. Quick. Knowledgeable. And Jonah is a very friendly individual that knows his way around bikes. I'm very happy with this bike shop.

From start to finish our experience with Routes was excellent. I called months in advance to book two bikes during Balloon Fiesta week. They were super helpful over the phone and worked to accommodate us, even reaching back out to me when they found a second bike more to our liking. During our visit we went on the Bikes and Balloons tour, which was such a cool experience. Josh has an amazing knowledge of the Balloon festival and Albuquerque in general, and his demeanor and personality make him enjoyable to be around, even at 5:30 AM :) Yes, we signed up for that! Then when my bike rental ended up being not the best fit, Josh called me later that day when something became available for my use. The personal touch extended by the business owners during the busiest week of the year was much appreciated. We will be sure to reach out to Josh and Heather at Routes when we return to ABQ! Highly recommend!

I flew in from Canada for a few days for some meetings and wanted to enjoy that New Mexico sun. I called Luke before I came and explained my goal to get in a good ride on a decent road bike. Jonah was there to help me when I arrived. What a great help he was! The bike was ready, as promised. They put on pedals to match my shoes. They fit me to the bike (which is no "small" feat at my height!) and I was off to the races.
Absolutely loved riding the trail along the Rio Grande. Got 45km in without stopping. But, there is nowhere I could find to refill a water bottle other than McDonalds! So, plan accordingly. It was dry and hot on my ride.
Back at the shop, the guys let me prep for my business dinner that followed. This was an EXCELLENT experience. Wish I could give them a 10 out of 5!

A wonderful, local bike shop with a nice selection of a variety of bikes and helpful, friendly staff. Kyle, my tour guide, made sure I had time to stop and see all the interesting sites along the way while telling me much of the history of the area. I was impressed how much I got to see in just 2 hours. Overall a fun, informative and also safety conscious ride at an easy, comfortable pace.

This place was amazing ! Josh, the owner made it so smooth, worked so well with us and we were able to have an amazing time with our Tandem bike! We just walked right in on memorial weekend and plenty of options available. Would highly recommend for anyone in the area!
Trig Stewart
A mom and pop store that is just out of this world with customer service.
Stopped in on a whim to get some information and was overwhelmed with generous help!
Josh Arnold not only gave us information but also tightened my handlebars as he saw they were loose. Then invited us on one of their tours
Lexi Oatman
We absolutely LOVED this tour!! The company was able to very quickly respond to us to set up a time which made us feel confident going in (we have never visited the city before so having somewhere so welcoming was great). Our tour guide was Josh who was the absolute best!! I’ve been on a lot of different city tours and Josh’s hospitality and familiarity with the city was unmatched. Would give 6 stars if I could—could not recommend more to others!!

We took the Historic River Bike Tour, and it was one of our absolute favorite experiences during our trip to Albuquerque. Setting up the tour and getting a bike rented was extremely easy and quick, and the staff was really helpful in getting us set up with a comfortable bike. The tour departed from a very convenient location in Old Town right on schedule!
Our tour guide Josh was EXCELLENT! He was very friendly and knowledgeable about Albuquerque history and architecture and did a perfect job at helping us feel safe navigating the brief road sections of the tour. A tour by bike was the perfect way to experience the Rio Grande and the Bosque!
Katrina Hagger
My family of four purchased the Private Flavors of Albuquerque Tour with Routes Bicycle Tours and Rentals of NM. Brad Frye was our tour guide for the day. Upon entering the store, we were greeted with a smile and great conversation. He was happily waiting for our arrival. He immediately fitted us for our bikes and helmets and we were on our way around town. The schedule and reservations were well-organized throughout the trip. Brad gladly took family photos for us throughout the trip and really provided details of the foods and spices at the various restaurants. We biked over the Rio Grande and various other fun locations. We shared candid conversations over various topics getting to know each other's backgrounds , and life's experiences. It was such a joy and so refreshing to talk with Brad ....even our kids (13 and 12 yrs.old) loved it and didn't want the tour to come to an end. If we are ever back in Albuquerque, we will definitely request Brad for our tour guide.
This business establishment is great!!! I would highly recommend the purchase of bike tours from this company if in the area.
Brad....give us a holla if you are ever in the Houston, TX area. Much love from the hot, humid Houston. Hope you remember us!!!

We took the Historic River Bike Tour, and it was one of the highlights of our trip to Albuquerque! Our tour guide, Josh, was super friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Riding along the Rio Grande was so cool!! I’d recommend this tour to anyone looking for an engaging and enjoyable way to experience Albuquerque.
Juan Marin
My wife and I rented bicycles from Routes and it was a great experience. The guy at the front desk (I forgot his name) was super helpful, he made the rental incredibly easy. Being locals, this was the first time using a rental shop and we were surprised to learn how much we don’t know about the bike trails. He gave us the rundown on the bosque trail which I highly recommend. The shop is centrally located relative to the bosque trail. He gave us a map and gave us all the sightseeing spots including the best lookouts, places with restrooms, and little tidbits of info that made the ride that much more fun. Highly recommended and amazing customer service!
Maureen McGuire
Routes is the best! I recently had a friend visiting ABQ for the weekend and we signed up for the Routes Biking Bad Tour. Not only is the Routes staff always friendly, responsive, and accommodating, but their tours are SO fun, and this one was no different. Our tour guide this time was Josh, who happens to be one of Routes' awesome owners. He was fantastic! We learned a ton of fun facts about Breaking Bad and also about Albuquerque itself. Whether you're a native to Albuquerque or just in town for a visit, Routes offers some of the best ways to explore the city!
Lindsay Kenney
We had a great time on the Spirit of ABQ tour. Saw a lot that we wouldn’t have gotten to if not for being on bike. Definitely recommend

Routes bicycles did a fantastic job with our group that went on a bicycle wine tour from downtown Albuquerque to a lovely winery, along the river, through a park, and then back into downtown. I highly recommend it as a way to spend an afternoon OUTDOORS being active, seeing the sights, and feeling safe. They provided everything, including helmets, waters, and bikes. and worked with us in advance on a fun itinerary that was customizable for our group's activity level. We had an AMAZING time and Brad Frye was the best. Highly recommend this bike shop and their employees.
Roland Mora
I stopped by Routes to buy a couple of tubes and compressed air and Mike jumped in and helped get me back on the road in no time. Super knowledable and friendly staff. Look to this shop for all of your bicycle repair and rental needs.
Liz McGinn
This is THE place to rent a bike. Wonderful people! Quick service. Extremely reliable. I would suggest them to anyone, whether you are local or visiting.
Louis Mayer
These people are amazing! My girlfriend and I have rented tandem bikes from them twice now and each time they have been courteous, helpful, and overall amazing. Their prices are excellent and they provide everything you will need for a bike ride. Their bikes are kept in excellent shape by their professional staff making your bike ride even more worry free! The entire staff are some of the most polite people I have ever met. 10/10 would tandem bike again.
Robert Donnelly
Routes is great! The staff, the tours, the service, the value. Whenever I'm in Albuquerque, Routes is my go-to bike shop, tour specialist, and bike rental service-provider
Ellen Hayes
What a cool idea! Even though I live in Albuquerque, my friends and I took their daily bike tour which covered old town, downtown and the river trail. We had so much fun and the tour guide was excellent (we rode with Josh)! the tour was full of knowledge and humor - I learned things I never knew about the city. The tour was about 2 hours with a restroom stop. We were told there are special tours each month (wine tour? YES!) and even a haunted tour. Super friendly staff and a cute store - we will be back!
Scott Lewis
We did not end up renting bikes but the people at Routes were exceptionally good to work with.
NeeceeB
Our bike tour was awesome! Our guide Brad was informative and supported 👍🏽.
The bikes/helmets were good and the trail awesome. They even gave out mini hand sanitizer and we traveled with covid 19 protocols. Can't wait to come back on covid has been conquered! …
Mike Liddle
Awesome Albuquerque experience. Super friendly and helpful staff. Thank you!
Mandy V
Wonderful experience! Totally recommend.
Had a great time. Thanks Brad! He was extremely helpful and knowledgeable!! We called to give him a heads up when our hour was almost up and he told us to take our time, enjoy and didn't charge us extra!
Thank you for helping us have a safe and peaceful time biking!!
Rami Katrib
Rented 3 mountain bikes from them a few months ago. They have great prices and gave us maps and everything we needed to ride the foothills. Very friendly and welcoming staff. I also scheduled to rent a bike for this coming weekend for my girlfriend. I ended up borrowing my neighbors bike for her. I called routes and asked to cancel and the friendly employee even waved the $5 cancellation fee because I gave him a few days notice.
This is how all businesses should be ran.
Lisa Vangorder
Took the basic morning tour with a great guide by the name of Dan. The ride was pretty much a private tour with gave us time to see the sites and enjoy the morning. The equipment was well maintained even though it was during balloon fest. Got a bottle of water with our ride and they worked to try and accommodate the bike fit to the persons size. Would recommend this ride and business.
Andrew Ferguson
I traveled to NM without a bike and rented one from Routes. They put my pedals on it for me for free. They showed me maps of good rides around ABQ and Santa Fe. Super knowledgeable, super helpful, and really nice. Rent a bike from them.
Cynthia Michaelson
Super nice staffer and very fair rental rates for the age/condition of the bikes, which functioned just fine on our 17-mile ride on the Paseo del Bosque. This would have been a 5-star review if the "free" helmets had not been incredibly grotesque. I almost went without, but since we would be on unfamiliar terrain, I tamped down my disgust and put it on. Suggestion to RBT: Helmets CAN be washed, especially the straps! We were also given a really great map, which the staffer marked with places to refill water bottles, so we left two large bottles of water in the car. However, caution: None of those places are easily accessed for drinking water. The most promising place, a large trailhead, had a nice bathroom but NO place to get drinking water?!? Whut? The brewery he highlighted on the map, which we held out hope for on a water refill, didn't open until noon. (We got to that point around 11.) Our daughter then went a half-mile off trail to a Sprouts to buy more water while mom & dad waited on the trail. Otherwise, a good experience overall!
Randy Howell (AZsteelman)
Great folks, good price, great bikes! Got in to town and wanted to rent a bike to ride for a couple of days. Their location and proximity to good biking areas and trails was perfect. Heather set me up, and gave me ideas of where to ride. I rented a Cannondale road bike, perfect condition. You can't go wrong, and I'll be back when I'm in town again. Thanks!
Patricia Peinado
Routes Rentals is the best bike rental in ABQ! The staff goes out of their way to help you understand the route you want. They also take extra time to make sure you are comfortable on your bike and feel safe.
Johnny O
Routes fixed up my bike after a bad spill, replacing the fork and other things. Reasonably priced and way quicker than I had anticipated. Also threw in an upgrade for free.
I will return in the future and recommend them!
Michelle Keller
Very friendly staff and high-quality bikes. We rented two bikes to do the Parqueo del Bosque trail and the guy at the bike shop was super friendly and suggested all sorts of stops along the way. The bikes are really great and are very well maintained. $20 for four hours per person, pretty good deal!
mark rackham
Started with phone call response to my online reservation enquiry for a peformance road bike. Discussed options and offered maps and tool kit, helmet. Didn't need the extras as I came prepared. However I forgot my Garmin attachment and Josh did a great job of zip tieing and rubber banding it to the stem. 24 hours for a great a price, including fit and pedals. thanks, see you again.
Ryan Hull
I got a flat while riding close to the shop. The owner not only graciously took time out of his day to help me out by fixing my flight but also took the time to share good bike routes and share a city bike route map. Can’t recommend this store high enough!
PATTI Harper-Slaboszewicz
Routes is an amazing business. Great bikes to rent and wonderful maintenance services. Haven't tried their bike tours but the people on the tours smile a lot.
Matt Lorenz
Great place to rent if you aren't into mountain biking. I asked for a full suspension and they showed be a bike that maybe had 50mm of travel on the front and cheap coil suspension in the back.
I would probably rent a road bike or hybrid there but if you want to rent a decent mountain bike go a few blocks away to the Bikesmith
Luke Davis
These folks are great! I take all my carts and bikes here for sliming. They do a great job and actually know how to it. Prices are surprisingly reasonable considering the location.
Chris Sanchez
They just fixed my cannondale bad boy hybrid. They went above and beyondt o get me back on the road. These guys are great, affordable and customer centric. I will use routes from now on, and if I see any of them at the pub pints are on me.
Lisa Cecil
Super nice staff and a great tour for a reasonable price!! Thanks Nico for my birthday ride! Loved the lavender farm ,the skoockie and especially the singing of Las Mañanitas. Priceless!
Scott Seay
Way more than rentals, this is a full service bike store and dealer for Cannondale and GT bikes. Prices here are very competative, and they do repairs, service and even quick fixes.
Glenn Olson
Great bike, great price, very helpful service, nice map. Easy access to lovely bike trails. Pretty much perfect. Thanks!

We took the standard history of Albuquerque tour which was very easy in difficulty level. The bikes performed well, sized to us, helmets optional (but you ought to take the option to wear a helmet).
Our guide was astounding. I can't remember his name, but he was brilliant. Multiple stops with lots of great info, and he handled our random questions with ease.
He made us feel safe even when biking down and across route 66 and other roads and intersections.
He pointed out to us a special treat, porcupines up in the trees sleeping. I guess they're only visible when there aren't leaves on the trees. It was a treat!
A great way to learn more about the city and see the sights.
Jairo Rosales
