Reviews of Beacon's Closet
Very professional selling experience! The notice board and staff shared clear instructions before selling. Had a clear lining up system so I knew to shop for 30 min before my name was called. I sold 3 out of 15 pieces of jewellery but felt great cos the gentleman was clear in explaining why rack was rejected. They definitely are exerts here in fashion and I respected their decisions. They pay you 30% for cash, not a lot but great experience
Tips: bring winter clothes in winter, summer clothes in summer only!
This review is dedicated to the staff of this location. I came to this location after having an incredibly terrible experience at the Bushwick location. Lyric was the buyer and did an excellent job of explaining what she liked about my pieces and what pieces would not work. Anna should be promoted to a corporate position. She went above and beyond listening to my story from the other location and getting me the information I need to speak to the right people. Annas vibe was consistent with everyone in the store . I buy/sell to 4 Beacons. This location should be studied and replicated throughout the company chain. This is the best Beacon's they have.
My friend who lives in New York City suggested I go thrifting while I was there. I really enjoyed it! affordable, cool shades were discovered. They had lots of adorable dresses and jeans.
You can discover a lot of nice stuff for a fair price if you have the time to properly browse everything and try things on:)
absolutely adore beacons closet. so many of my favorite pieces come from here!! everything is easy to sort through, and all the employees are always so friendly :) im a forever customer !!
Some short boots and some leather hand bags r around $25-$40 just giving u an idea of pricing here
Great shop. Bustling scene of hipness. Got a good bargain on the Holy Grail - perfect condition black leather pants that fit like a glove. Also a jumbo leather Tumi carry on bag. Didn't break the bank!
Great experience buying online. Got a pair of basically new rare designer sneakers well below MSRP. Super curated, so yeah you won’t be paying Goodwill prices but you’ll definitely be paying less than at other places.
One of the better used clothing stores, the focus seems to be more on usability than fashion, making it a gem vs the overpriced "vintage" stores throughout NYC. Small aisles, so do not recommend carrying lots of bags when the store is busy.
I'm not too far from here and I absolutely LOVE to shop here. however I have to agree that some of the employees are rude and unprofessional. It would get 4 stars if they weren't so stuck up and cared more.
Instead of getting money back for the things you sold them. You come out better by shopping there. You get a little more of a percentage back to shop there. They have a large variety of things to choose from.
Been coming here 8+ years, one of best thrifting / vintage in Manhattan. Also best resale value you’ll find. But you come here for the wonderful finds, not the customer service. Staff are, and always have been, unwelcoming and flat out rude at times. The clothes make it worth it, but have to dock a star for the highly unpleasant interactions I have to endure each time I visit.
Lastly - please do not ‘donate’ here. They will turn around and sell it. Super ugly morals going on here if they’re saying this is getting donated to people who are in need… Another star docked.
The one in Bushwick - both quality of clothes and employees! - is so much better.
My favorite clothing store from New York can deliver goods to me now that I live Chicago. Ordered an Isabel marant blazer from the online shop today!
Excellent service. Well run store in NYC - very wide variety of merchandise, both vintage and modern. I will continue to shop at this store.
Best selling experience I’ve ever had in the thrift stores. Reasonable prices. Anna bought my clothes and make it easy and transparent, I could ask any questions about items she didn’t choose and prices she offered. Got my store credit, got new beautiful dresses, refreshed my spring wardrobe and definitely will be back soon.
Decent enough prices for nyc and large selection. Almost too large of a selection, makes it difficult to look at anything and nagivate store
Pretty good as a buyer! Of course, still quite more expensive than your usual “thrift shop” which I’ll attribute to the location + curation - and it can be quite busy at certain times. Try avoiding going at peak hours on weekends etc to not feel overwhelmingly claustrophobic while browsing. Some items seem more fairly priced than others.
I love the vibe of the store when I am there along with the huge selection. I’ve bought many quirky items along with brand names when I’m able to visit. Most recently, got a huge score on a pair of brand new Paul Smith loafers off the website. You can never go wrong at Beacon’s Closet!
This review is for the selling clothes process. I was comparing reviews between the Buffalo exchange to this place Beacon and the reviews didn’t lie - the service was top notch, super friendly staff, I wish I could remember all their names they work very well together as a team, get stuff done, very personable and pleasant to work with. I was in a rush so might’ve been able to eke out a few more bucks for my stuff, and will give Buffalo exchange a shot to see if they pay more next time, but for today I sold 10 good shirts for $53, which is fine. Was hoping to see a bit more upscale collection too (no Dolce and Gabanna mens shirts unfortunately 😂). Either way, 5 stars for 5 star customer service and selling process.
Prices are fair and their clothing is exceptional. If your are looking for quality clothing try this shop first
Clothes are a 10. Exquisite. The staff members were rude and unhelpful. There is an exclusionary air about them (if you're not a skinny, hot, alternative 18-26-year-old, it's like you don't exist). But the clothes...
I've been to beacon's a lot and I've always left with something. The prices vary from very affordable to pretty expensive but there's something for everyone and all price ranges
I feel like most thrift places in Manhattan are either a) a bunch of fast fashion from last year being toted as “vintage” or b) horribly overpriced, but this manages to be neither which I appreciate. Haven’t tried selling so I don’t know the experience there but as a buyer it was awesome, loved the selection and prices 😎 …
Great selection in the store, wide variety of brands. It can be a bit overwhelming so go in with the right mindset! Things are sorted by item type and color. You can find some good pieces here, but you have to have the right eye and be willing to dig through everything. If you’re up for it, it’s a great store!
When you sold, they're very picky and you would get 30% yet prices are reasonable and they have great variety to choose from!
Beacon’s closet is a treasure trove of magical items. I always find something new and exciting whenever I come here!
i think it’s a little bit overrated. i never find anything good here. very nice staff though
This is my first order from Beacon's Closet, but it looks like a great source for high-quality used/discounted clothing. I appreciated that for my region, shipping in 2 days via USPS is only 34 cents higher than UPS 3-day. I also appreciate the precise description of the condition of the clothing, as I'm nowhere near NYC to check it out myself.
A pleasant shopping experience, we can find a lot of beautiful clothes here, good price, very recommended!
I lived in NY years ago, before having my son. This summer, we have 2 weddings to go to and I had been hunting stores to find the perfect dress and just couldn’t find anything I loved! I remembered Beacon’s Closet from my time in NY and decided to check out their site. I ordered two dresses and absolutely love both of them! I’m also glad that I went the sustainable fashion route and got two beautiful pieces that will be in my closet for years to come! The shipping was so fast and I couldn’t be happier!!
Deals for sure, but with a wait out the door, is short sighted not to group by size. No one wants to sort through the entire store to find their size, which inevitably leads to lots of “moments of disappointment.”
This is my favorite location in the city!! I never leave emptied handed. Everything is very organized and put into sections so you can be sure to find specific items you’re looking for. They have a great jewelry and shoe collection. If you can’t make it in person, their online store offers the same great finds and affordable shipping!
I just received my third mail order from this store. As I have been in the past, I'm so happy with what I purchased! The items were as described, fairly priced, well-packaged, and shipped quickly. I will be ordering again and am hoping to visit the store in person soon!
The store had a large selection, but the clothing items were mainly synthetic materials. The prices were fair, though a little higher than one might expect for fast-fashion resale -- a better deal would be the leather shoes. The staff is indifferent to the customers, but at least they have a system.
I can tell they have a great selection, but having items organized by color and not by size makes it particularly difficult to shop consignment. This isn’t Forever 21 where merchandising by color means you can locate an item in every size when you go over to the purple rack. Not even the shoes are organized by size.
Staff ware always so helpful and kind! Great place if you want to freshen up your wardrobe and cleanse out some old items! Happy return customer!
I love Beacon's closet. I've been coming to here for years and the service is always top notch. They're doing great at taking precautions for covid and it was smooth shopping.
Kareem checked me out and was very friendly and able to answer any questions I had.
Peace and love to the Beacon's staff!
Wow ever since COVID they have a long line to get in every day. They have a very specific range of styles here- it’s not like goodwill where it’s a mishmash of everything. The focus here is on vaguely retro, somewhat 70s-leaning fashion, nothing casual or “everyday” wear. They organize by color. The place is somewhat cramped due to how many folks shop here. There was always a long line to try anything on, now since COVID this translates to a long line to get in the place. I think they might be the only recycled fashion store of this type left on the island- other places haven’t survived rent hikes and pandemics. There’s other shops around that are focused on super high-end boutique used clothes, this is similar but significantly more price-friendly, and a lot more colorful. They take clothes too but that process is extremely frustrating. The best thing in this place, in my opinion, is the jewelry. I frikkin love the jewelry. Also the home goods. The front part of this store has become extremely awesome and I love it.
This place is great for selling your used clothes
Out of all the thrift stores I've been to in NYC, this is my fav.
This place is perfect to find unique things. Also Reasonable price and nice staff.
My son loves it here, and after shopping, said there is no reason ever to buy stuff first hand. He raved to highly that I just got him s gift card for the holidays.
What a great little boutique thrift store. Trendy and fun. Staff was excellent. Safe neighborhood and it was CLEAN! My daughters both found some amazing deals. Must see for young fashion minded people.
Beacons closet is the best for unique vintage and style! The shop in green point is amazing along with their online shop. I have had multiple shipments online and they are fast and efficient! Highly recommend
My favorite thrift store! the prices may range but all the clothing is unique in its own way. If your around please check this place out you'll never know what you'll find. Inside everything is organized by color and clothing type, this one is a bit more crowded inside than the one in Brooklyn.
Clothes are sorted in colors, you got a lot to choose from. Affordable price, you can find clothes around $10 - $20.
They have exciting items, you just need to keep looking. The major issues I have with them are sizes, density and lines. I usually wear s/m but find most of their clothes to be too small. Even when the marked size is M it's more like xs. I think its not the store's fault. Its just that so many of the items are vintage or designer and they tend to go small. Customers are better off knowing this when they come in. the other difficulty I have there its that it tends to be very crowded and there's very little room to move, stand or check out the merchandise. Last is they they only have 5 changing rooms and allow up to 10 items at a time. Taking into account the type if clothing and clients, this adds up to very long lines to dressing rooms. Easily 10-20 mins wait. Prices are not cheap like in other second hand stores but the type of clothing sometimes justifies it (I bought a Giorgio Armani maxi flare skirt for my nieces's bday for 35$).
Everything is so overpriced here! A dress costs upward of $30, a shirt usually around $20-- which is much more than you would normally pay for secondhand clothing. It's really more of a boutique than a thrift store. There are some lovely designer clothes there, but be prepared to shell out your money to pay for them. All in all, I'd rather go to Goodwill.
Nice stuff and good brand names at affordable prices.
Awesome selection, great prices, and styling employees. (I noticed some choice Raf Simons Stan Smiths on the staff member who gave me the key to a fitting room, and my cashier Billy was rocking a killer Moschino sweater.) Pretty much everything in this place is a find. Highly recommend at the very least taking a look.
This is not a place for someone who likes cheap clothing because it is rather expensive for second-hand. However, everything looks in good shape and you can find really unique pieces. You just have to remember that it's on the pricey end of thrift stores!
The other downside for me is that it's very crowded. But great selection of clothing.
As far as these types of stores go, it's decent. If you have the patience to rummage through the racks and potentially repair an item once you buy it, this is a good place to go. They're a bit stingy when you sell items to them, but it's still better than getting nothing for that old dress your grandmother left you.
Amazing selection! So excited that they ship. Amazing vintage options and contemporary.
Always a joy ... To go to beacons been going for years and years always something new exciting.
Great selection of clothing. However, I have been to this store twice, and both times there were a few employees who were very rude to me and my friend.
The clothes are great, however, the staff need to be less pretentious about their position at this job. It’s not like they get paid more than minimum wage, but for some reason they like to act as if they are hot shots. I’ve only met one girl here who was down to earth. Shocking
The only good secondhand in nyc, always leave with a few items. It can be crowded but if you go early it won’t be as bad!! The prices are super reasonable especially for New York for good quality clothes.
I have some great finds from Beacon's! Now that fall is approaching, I'll go back to get a nice coat-- they have lots and they're beautiful and well priced!
Huge selection of different styles, but not always as high of quality as Buffalo Exchange or Crossroads. Tons of shoes too!
I come here every time I visit New York. It is my absolute favorite spot, amongst Joe Tokyo and Tokio 7. You’ll definitely find designer items and never leave empty handed ! Be sure to get here early, around 11 AM so you can get the newest items on the rack!
I love shopping at Beacon's Closet. They always have the interesting pieces that you want in your closet. The sales team is really good about putting things up online with descriptions that match the product so you know what you are buying. Returns are hassle free!
A visit there is a "must be" when ever I am back in NYC. My favorite clothes and bags are from Beacon´s Closet! The shops have a great variety of exceptional and unique items, the staff is friendly, helpful and inspired whenever you come, whether it is 11 am or 7 pm.
This place has a really great mens clothing selection and the prices are good. I went on a Saturday afternoon and it was pretty busy. I got a really nice jacket and a vintage t shirt under $50. Definitwly coming back
So much selection and prices are reasonable and staff is helpful. I explored many thrift shops in NYC. Beacon's has them all beat. So impressed I stopped in twice in one day!
Shopping experience was good. Don’t know the girls name, but she wears ed hardy often. Whenever she’s there my shopping experience is pleasant. Doesn’t hurt that she’s cute :)
Oh! Beacons how I love thee! Let me count the ways:
1. Incredible deals and steals!
2. Eclectic and orignial merchandise
3. Friendly staff who have personality
4. Lets me use my old clothes to buy new ones
5. Fullfills my retail therapy without breaking my bank
It was smaller than I expected, and mostly aims at feminine clothing. But, I did fund an amazing jacket and pair of shoes.
Also, not expensive and everything is top quality.
The clothing selection is great - you can find pieces in a wide accessible price range. However, the employees were rude and it's usually so crowded that it's hard to really browse at your own pace.
I have been to the store a few times, but mostly shop on their online website. Deliveries are always on time and prices are very competitive among similar vintage stores in the area. Highly recommend!
I purchased two items and online and received them in an incredibly timely manner. They're so affordable and fashionable; so, like, why not? I'm moving to New York soon and I look forward to regularly frequenting the store; but online will do for now. Thanks, BC! <3
This is a place you have to go all the time to find really great pieces. I would go at least twice a week and always score. The usual selection is alright, but every once in a while you find the item that is a real gem. The item you die for. That you live for and that you lust after for a decent price.
Excellent condition, as described, well packaged
Bought a pair of almost-new special edition Converse for $14 and a pair of BEAUTIFUL Louboutons for $45!! I had so much fun. Highly recommend.
SERVICE WAS VERY SLOW, OVER AN HOUR AND A HALF WAIT
THE MANAGER WAS VERY KIND AND SHE'S NICE AS WELL AS THE YOUNG MAN THAT SERVICED ME.
I BOUGHT 3 VERY EXPENSIVE ITEMS THAT WERE BRAND NEW WITH TAGS AND PRICED SO LOW FROM BEACONS CLOSET, I COULDN'T AFFORD TO LET THEM STAY.
COUTURE PANTS/ HOODIE AND COAT
Nailed it once again. I found a pair of one of a kind coach hi tops for a very low price. Never worn. I am always so pleased with the products beacon's provide. Thanks again.
Great vintage shop! Very nice brands and really good prices.
Good place it has more womans stuff than mens but they have some great deals on nike & jordans under $50 for some good shoes Tee shirts over priced Also i got a $225 sunglasses for 29$
I am not usually a vintage used clothes person but I always find amazing things here! Save lots of money and the planet by recycling! Love It!
Friendly staff, very organized. Take your time and you'll find it is worth the visit.
You can find real treasures here if you dig dig dig! Also really wacky vintage clothing. Staff can be really snotty. It's not fun to have a 20 year old dressed in a literal curtain sneer at your clothing. Do not stand while your clothing is sorted thru. Let them do it alone and then you come back grab what's left.
Love it it’s my favorite destination always find amazing items that are in excellent condition and at a great price ... definitely go you will love it
Cool store! I found a Star Trek necktie and a unicorn salt and pepper set. It cost $30 total (chotto takai de) but they're all unique pieces.
Awesome thrift store with a great variety. They have a lot of designer stuff, sometimes with tags still on!
Pieces are great, staff is friendly for the most part. But was a bit crowded and i was sneezing the whole time because of the dust. But thats to be expected for a thrift store.
My go-to shopping location! Brought some excellent pieces - no hassles and no drawbacks in sustainable consumption. Clear conscience and an excellent wardrobe....win-win.
I love this place! I have gotten great designer items from here. I definitely recommend this hidden gem, to anyone who wants unique designer items for a fraction of the price.
I wish the clothing was organized by size because I found myself having to flip through everything only to get on a long line for the fitting room. This thrift shop has clothing, shoes, accessories, and a few non-fashion items for sale; there isn't any furniture, books, music, etc.
Yet another amazing purchase. I’ve found so many gems and I just recently found the perfect top to celebrate my birthday in. Beacons Closet never fails me.
No space for stress free shopping
After a couple of years of purchasing online finally made it to this location. Good choice, I must admit. Great selection and friendly stuff. Recommended!
Been shopping here for almost five years now. Remains to be one of the best secondhand clothing stores in New York City.
I have been going there every week and everytime I will buy something!! The store is great.
Really good items in great condition and at affordable prices. There's a good mix of high end and mainstream pieces so its always fun to uncover treasure!
They have many items in good condition but selling used clothes is not really worthy or easy. Maybe that's why they have good items.
Very crowded with racks but you will definately find something, they have a very versatile selection. Still has a good selection.
This place has really cool and unique items. It is a bit small and crowded however, and the prices aren’t thrift store prices.
Don’t sell here if you think your clothes are worth any money at all. Especially now with covid restrictions the buyers really rip you off.
I ordered a sweater online. It arrived in a timely manner and it was in excellent condition. I would recommend this store to anyone interested in vintage/designer fashion.
Always has designer goods at a reasonable price and perfect for selling stuff you don’t wear anymore and trade in for beautiful new pieces!
It was a good experience. A lot to choose from. Customer service was great.
Amazing space. Ive always manages to find something great here with great price! And digging through racks of clothes is half the fun!
Love beacons closet, always helpful staff and great finds at wide ranges of prices!
I love this thrift store! You can find so many high quality items for a good price. :)
Cool stuff here!
The staff are sumtimes grumpy but mostly cool.
Love the accessories
No mirrors, anywhere. You have to go to the dressing room even to try on coats. But lots of great finds if you're willing to squeeze your way around.
Very unique carefully curated vintage clothing at reasonable prices.
Great customer service and curation of great vintage! Only wish they would take store trade-in credit at the web shop, but I hear they're working on it!
Great selection and pretty organized. I have yet to purchase anything here but it's always fun to browse.
Great finds, organized by color. Always worth a stop when I’m in the area as they always have new stuff worth looking at!
Great selection and prices. One of my fave shops!
I bought a jacket online is perfect I love it, they have a lot of stuff in a very good condition!
A lot of clothes, if you go here you'll leave probably with one item or none, the prices could be better, a lot of the stuff I'm interested in, will have high prices...I'm thrifting for a reason
great experience, love shopping with beacons closet. Received an online purchase from them and was better than described. A++
Great prices and quick shipping. All items purchased were nearly indistinguishable from new condition. Couldn’t ask for more.
Love this beacons - always something good to find here. Love that you can drop your bag of things to sell and don’t have to wait for it.
Found some AWESOME gems here, fantastic quality items, some even branded!! 100% wish I put 3 days away for this place
Loved it here! Great finds, lots of selection and the staff was super friendly and helpful!
Nice store. Friendly staff! I bought a really good clothes here.
Great place to shop!
Decent selection and decent prices. Solid option for Manhattan hunting but not the best.
Nice staff, too much stuff but it's all good
They have great prices and I’ve found so many hidden gems at this store :)
Great place to find treasures — been shopping at the Manhattan location for 7 years and have some of my favorite pieces ever from here!
Large, stylish, and affordable thrift shop. The prices and selection are great
Great selection. A little crowded. AC seemed to be broken day I was there. Got cute stuff
Treasures as far as the eye can see. Yes, you have to dig but it's worth it most of the time.
The staff often seen overewhelmed but I would to in here so...
I love beacon’s closet, have been shopping at beacon’s for a couple of years, great customer service and great products, always find something unique and special, thank you beacon’s!
best place for vintage - so well curated! good selection and changes all the time.
Found an amazing pair of R13 boots here! Love this store.
Rude workers. None of them treated us well. Clothing was good though. Good brands and items in good condition.
Very crowded store and the staff are unpleasant. Very few great fines as most of the merchandise is heavily worn.
Amazing finds! Spend a weekend going through every rack. It’s worth it!
Beacons Closet is a great place to find amazing items for a fraction of the retail! Enjoy your time here!!!
very friendly and found good stuff!!!

This is a really good place for buying clothes,, I approve
Racks can be overstocked (and too many racks even) lately making difficult to shop
I like how they color code the tags according to price ranges, making it clear they have stuff for every budget.

The staff members were welcoming and kind, prices are good for a lot of stuff they own did buy a shirt so worth it tbh, but it’s the selling your clothes here, you’re probably better off selling somewhere else, it didn’t bother me that much but it’s the fact I bought 2 bags worth of clothes and only got like 7 bucks out of it
Vintage clothing store used mainly for women.
You can find clothes, shoes, bags, underwear, accessories, eyewear and much more
Mecca of vintage items piled up with various vintage items! I've been to Manhattan and Brooklyn, and I've been to both, and there's no big difference. (*The product is bound to be different, of course) I think it's a bit expensive for a vintage item, but it's fun to find items that suit my taste like a treasure hunt.
I liked the one in Brooklyn better, but highly recommended. You have to go with time to search and try on quietly. There are many things.
New York's best quality vintage clothes and frips are at Beacon's Closet, there are also lots of brand new shoes and the girls are super nice!

Second hand store with some very interesting products at a good price. It has a lot of variety and quantity and everything is a bit cramped, so it's a good idea to look calmly.
The best thrift store in NYC, affordable prices for quality, tidy and smelling clothes. I recommend!
It's best to avoid weekends if possible.
The space is large, but passing is narrow, and the fitting room has to do weights, so I think it's better to go at a time when there are no people.
Very friendly staff, clothes constantly arranged and tidy, prices are good and there is a lot of variety.
Famous vintage shop. What a fun place! It was like a real treasure hunt. It was fun just to look around.
The staff was good and it was fun like a treasure hunt. It was good to be able to buy used items at a reasonable price.
Don't be surprised because it's a small place and the staff can be rude.
Clothing a little expensive, and selected with a particular taste!!!
I love
