This store reminds me of when my dad used to take me thrifting as a kid. Lots of stuff available with the more valuable ones behind glass counters. Most items are clearly used with a few new or barely used merchandise. Went in just to browse and see if anything was worth refurbishing. The store could be more efficiently laid out by removing their recently donated items away from the entrance as not to cause confusion to customers and staging furniture to gain appeal.

This is a fun local thrift store. The employees have always been very nice to me and the deals are fantastic. Yes the store is a bit of a mess right now but that’s because they are in the middle of a huge merge and what thrift store isn’t a little messy. Part of the fun in thrift stores is that they are a treasure hunt. It has been really exciting finding new things as the stores merge.

12/20/2022 New name. Same owner. The current owner bought Second Chance Thrift a couple of years ago and has now consolidated her former 2nd store into this location and renamed it JCOC Thrift within the last couple of weeks. So I popped into here Sunday (Dec 18th) afternoon on a semi-regular visit and was happy to find an old Sony DSC-S75 digital camera. The entire thing was complete in the box for $15.00. While the box has seen better days the camera itself looks and runs like it's brand new. AV Cable, USB Cable, Sony Memory Card, Instructions, CD and Sony carry case all included. The battery needs to be replaced as it doesn't hold a charge like it used to but that's s small price to pay for basically a new camera. One more digicam for my gear acquisition syndrome. As always the staff was super friendly and accommodating and I look forward to my next visit in the new year. 3-20-2017 Not the best, not the worst... It's just right. Second Chance Thrift is close to my parents house and I'll often take a quick drive by there when I'm in that neck of VB. When I go to a thrift store I go for one thing and one thing only. Retro tech. That's code for classic game consoles and software. While I don't always strike gold on these visits I have definitely picked up some sweet deals here. The most recent one was an original Sega Game Gear, not the remake by Majesco, that was still in perfect working order. It also had it's power supply, two games and a carrying case, all for $27 bucks. Easily a $50-$60 purchase at a retro game store or ebay. Now as far as the other things you'd go to a thrift store for, they have plenty of that to. Ton's of cloths, furniture in the side room and lots of books, which you don't often see, and a pretty decent collection of albums as well. Last but not least, donations and patronage here supports the SPCA, which is reason enough alone to shop here. You can find Second Chance Thrift in the Lake Shores Plaza shopping center on Shore Drive between Gates 4 and 5 of Little Creek Amphibious Base. Food Lion is the anchor store and the right next door.

I have frequented this store for several years from their old location to the new. It is a shame that a person had to be so negative. Why not just tell someone in the store what he found instead of bad-mouthing the store publicly? They would have taken care of it. Donated material is not perfect.

I love coming here because of the people. Amy and Nikki are awesome! They help me so much trying to find stuff I need for my lil projects and if they don’t have it, they suggest alternatives that usually work out pretty well! I’m sad JCOC closed but everyone is working so darn hard getting things reorganized and shifted. I come here every week and have witnessed the inception of this merge and I’m so proud of them handling this stressful situation and still take the time to help me always with a smile on their faces! Even though things are rough right now, it’s a huge improvement! At least it doesn’t that that stinky thrift store smell like a sample of everyone’s dungeon in va Beach 😶‍🌫️😶‍🌫️😶‍🌫️ …aka “thrift store stench” that others have. Love you guys !!❤️❤️❤️

I have shopped at many of the local thrift stores here in Virginia Beach and this one is by far my favorite. The store is neat and clean, all clothing items are organized by size and the employees are friendly and helpful. If you're looking for something in particular they will go out of their way to see if they have that item or something similar. They offer senior discounts and they also offer 10% military discount everyday. They have a frequent shopper punch card. Spend 20.00 and get a punch on your card, when the card is full you get 20.00 off any merchandise of your choice. This store is beyond awesome, it's one of a kind in this area. On another plus note they do support the SPCA and it's efforts to find loving homes for the animals that find their way to their shelter. This is an animal friendly store as long as your dog or cat is well behaved and on a leash. You can't miss out on this great opportunity to shop in a pleasant friendly atmosphere. The prices are very low and the run sales each and every day on different colored tags. Many clothing items daily are .99 and others are half price.

This is my favorite charity shop in the Hampton Roads area, been shopping here for many years and I've never had an issue with anything or any of the staff. I almost always find something that I either like or need and the staff has always been very professional and helpful whenever I asked about an item or needed help. Staff aren't in your face all the time, they greet you when you come in, tell you about specials and sales, ask you about military or senior status in order to give you appropriate discounts, and they are always working to keep the store stocked, organized, and clean. Everything is within reach, but if you have an issue getting to something, the staff is more than willing to help you if they aren't already engaged with another customer. I've never had any issues with them personally nor witnessed bad customer service to anyone else while shopping, and I can kill a couple of hours in there easily. I'm in retail myself, so I know good customer service when I see it. This is a quality shop and is my go to for thrifting, not to mention it supports a cause close to my heart, animal rescue. If you want a good shopping experience while supporting a good cause, this is a great place to go. I will continue to bring them my business since shopping there is such a pleasure.

I love opportunities to leave positive feedback about businesses and experiences that I've had and the Second Chance Thrift Store is no exception! Clean, organized, and fairly priced are three of the many things you'll enjoy about this second hand shop. I am especially partial to supporting it because it gives back to the local animal charities, so I feel like I'm winning twice when I shop here. Not only did I find a great Patagonia vest, but they had a multitude of other quality items for fantastic prices. The staff was friendly and I 100% recommend stopping into this store.

I normally go to her other thrift store (JCOC) on S. Plaza, but I decided to venture out of my zone and was I ever glad I did. I love it!!! AND, tomorrow, Monday, September 14th, is 50% off clothes or so I was told...Halloween costumes are also there!!! This thrift store just opened not too long ago. Go show some love at the Second Chance Community Thrift Store over on Shore Drive. It Rocks!🎶🎵🥁🎸🎷

This is one of my favorite thrift stores in Hampton roads. The staff are always very kind and helpful and the selection continues to be updated daily. It does not have the typical thrift store smell either.the selection of clothing is usually very high-quality often mini still with new tags on them. There's also a high selection of furniture and glassware. there is also a small selection of antiques and higher valued items.

Dog friendly and a few miles from where I live. It's great to have places like this to help motivate my dog and I to get out and get in shape! Furniture is a bit expensive (still cheaper than new), but clothes and other items are very reasonably priced. I have gone in on multiple occasions to find exactly what I was looking for. They even have some pet stuff, so check here if you get a furry new family member. The staff are very happy to see you bring your 4-legged friends in, even big ones, assuming they are well behaved. 10/10 will run this way again. :)

Just FYI, this place has changed hands and proceeds no longer benefit the SPCA. It is jam packed full of stuff, but its overpriced for secondhand, except for the books. They have decent prices on books.

My absolute favorite thrift store in Hampton Roads! All the profits go to the SPCA and the staff is always a pleasure to deal with. Their store is neat, orderly and CLEAN with a wide variety of items to scour through. They have a dressing room and a restroom, which is a lot more than most of the local thrift shops. They also have tag sales and offer senior and military discounts! Best thrift store in Hampton Roads IMO.Love it!

This place is amazing. Stopped by today for the first time and found so much interesting and unique stuff. We picked up a few books, some furniture, trinkets, and records for incredibly cheap. I can definitely say that we will be swinging by more frequently!

This place is great! The staff and their selection of products. To say they didn't have anything is dumb. Its a thrift store. They can only carry what is donated to them. If you didn't find anything your first time that doesnt mean you shouldn't go back. They take donations everyday and are constantly putting new things out...even while youre shopping, theyre restocking the shelves! Its not "proped up" by anything either. They have been voted "best of the beach" every year since they've been open and there's a lot more than just military in the area so don't listen to the guy below me! Check them out and see for yourself why they're voted THE BEST!

Sometimes I find things that are useful to myself, some of their prices are a bit outrageous but it really depends, some of them are really great deals, their displays and placements could use some more work. Somethings are high up and above you don't really notice them. It's a decent little shop though, worth a walk around, never know what you might find for yourself.

Stopped in last week to check out the new ownership… Complete 180 of the previous owners. Staff was friendly, helpful, and a true pleasure! They knew we were interested in an item at the time we didn’t have the funds- they informed us of their specials the following day- needless to say we went back got our item and a few more.
