Reviews of Algiers Ferry Terminal
Tony Apperson
Just your typical ferry ride, felt safe during the trip but will say one of the workers was extremely rude to one of the people that was with us for no reason. We kinda just blew it off because we wanted to go check out the other side and regardless the ferry was the only way. Had some nice views though and got to watch the sun start to set.
Trisha bratcher
Only $2 to ride unless you have the jazzy pass.
Great views of the city especially at sunset and then come back after dark to see the city lights.
Sheric Adventures
As tourists staying in Belle Chase, we decided to see NOLA through public transportation (ferry, streetcar, bus) and private transportation (our feet.) The high speed ferry boats from Algiers to Canal street are clean and efficient and there is ample street parking close to the terminal. The RTA go mobile app is an awful navigation tool, but buying and using the $6 one day regional ride ticket is a breeze. Great outdoor rooftop views from the water and on-time departures on our two round trips. Bicycles allowed, no cars. Highly recommend.
Zen Cat
If you get a Jazzy Pass, ferries are included and it was a very inexpensive way to get a neat photo of the skyline and enjoy a short ferry ride. Air conditioned on the lower floor, and sunny seats up top for photos.
Kayla Andrews
Very beautiful place to get pictures of the city. Didn't ride the ferry this time tho. 😕 …
John Hsieh
It's a ferry terminal... It does what it needs to do. Boats dock to the terminal, people get off, people get on, and the boat depart for the other side of the Mississippi. For $2 per person per ride, I don't see what the big deal is (well, you must have exact change). You can now officially claim that you've been on a boat! If parking is too expensive, there are plenty of street parking available all throughout Algiers Point. There is a big statue of Louis Armstrong just to the south of the ferry terminal and a couple of watering holes on Bouny St. To the north of the ferry terminal is the beautiful scenic spot labelled "New Orleans Downtown View".
Kettering
Easy breezy. The local community at Algiers is very welcoming!
Alte Nijhuis
Best alternative to avoid parking in French Quarter. And nice to pass the Mississippi nu boat. Cheap tickets, cash only.
blanca santiago
Loved the smooth ride from Gretna to the French Quarter. Easy, quick and you don't have to worry about parking your car. Last ferry leaves at a good decent hour. 9:45pm.
Talal Zraik
The terminal itself is not interesting and you do not need to enter the building. The ferry travel from this terminal to the other side of the Mississippi to duck near Canal Street/ Riverside Walk in New Orleans. The trip takes only 5 minutes where you can take nice pictures.
You do not need to buy a ticket. You pay $2 at boarding in cash. They take only exact amount in cash, no change given back and no credit card accepted. I believe the ferry runs from around 6 am to 9:30 pm.
The ferry is God sent if you were visiting/staying in Algiers. You can drive to terminal park close buy for free and land near French Quarter avoiding traffic hassle and very expensive parking there.
Sam Tran
Cool ride across the Mississippi River to Algiers Point. Exact $2 fare is a must.
Ryo Flying
Loved it. As a tourist, by day 3, I felt like I was commuting into NOLA business district from Algiers every morning. The ferry service is very reliable, friendly, safe, and clean. I recommend sitting at the top to enjoy the breeze and the view of the business district. The ride is only for 5 mins, and I actually wished it was a bit longer.
Terri Austin
Best way to get across the river for Mardi Gras parades. Friendly staff and easy boarding.
Nic Begley
Love the ferry! Easy, enjoyable and convenient.
sybil orr
Riding the Ferry is a real treat. It is a great way to relax when you are riding across the Mississippi River at the end of a day, Not everyone has a Ferry.
Ynot
This is an excellent form of transportation into the heart of the New Orleans if your staying on the other side of the Mississippi River during holidays and/or Mardi Gras. The bridge crossing is usually slowed down to a crawling speed while everyone one is trying to get in and out of downtown/French Quarter. Traffic will be hectic one you arrive to downtown and chances are many of the parking lots will be filled to capacity.
Alternatively, you can park your car at the ferry terminal and take the $2.00 ferry across the Mississippi, into the heart of NOLA Downtown and onto the front steps of the French Quarter.
Definitely consider the Ferry if your on the other side of the River! Considering this was my fiances and my first time taking a ferry we found it rather romantic.
Word to the wise... keep close tabs on the hours of operation. Your not ganna wanna miss your only ride back to your car unless your ganna champion throughout the whole morning in the French Quarter until the ferry opens up again!
V.C. MacFarlane-Lewis
Crossing the Mississippi River from Algiers Point to Canal Street is a great experience. From the deck of the Ferry, you have a spectacular view of Downtown New Orleans. Also, you have an awesome view of the Mississippi River Bridge.
Jenny Gutierrez
the Ferry ride was great. but when you get to Algiers there is nothing to do there... so just walk around and get back on. On the plus side I can say I was on the Mississippi River.
Anandi Premlall
The attendants were really friendly and made sure we were safe. The ride was quick and uneventful. It wasn't as bad of a commute as I thought it would be.
Wayne Balsiger
Nice short trip across the Mississippi river. Nice views.
D Arso-Frison
Updated schedule needs to be added or posted somewhere. Besides that an amazing ride for the whole family (view of the crescent city bridge)
Deepak
The terminal is located on the other end of New Orleans and can be crossed within 5minutes in ferry.
Suggest to install RTA app for ticket purchases. Limited parking is available next to terminal
Kollan Kolthoff
This is a hidden gem for people staying just across the river from downtown NOLA. They come every 1/2 hour and is a quick trip to downtown. We tried to drive a couple of days and definitely wish we would have known about this earlier. Worth every penny and made our vacation much cheaper. Just be sure to anticipate taking a cab home if you stay out too late. The terminal could use some updating and cleaning but other than that, adequate for what it is used for. Also, make sure you bring cash and exact change!
Ronald E Robbins
The ferry station is pretty outdated and has seen better days. Would be nice to have some restroom facilities which were opened to the public but there were some on the ferry. All in all, worth taking to the French Quarter if you don't want to spend an obscene amount for parking/plan to have a few drinks.
Venom RT J
Haven't been on there in 20yrs and everything looks new and everything was smooth even with the heavy French Quarter Festival crowds. 👍🏼👍🏼 …
Rachel K
Usually I would say 5 stars, love the ferry but (and yes Ida is mostly to blame) the temporary point on the east bank is only accessible by an un marked bus that is never on schedule or easy to find. Also the regular RTA bus drivers may or may not have any idea what you are talking about and the RTA website doesn't reflect the updated route or limited times. Call left until the regular ferry and schedule resume.
Marcus K.
Used the NOLA public transportation app to pay for two passenger tickets to get across. Took our bikes and it was easy to get on the boat after the tickets were scanned off the phone. Getting across took about 10 minutes. There are no toilets on board so use the ones in the ferry terminal. One room on the ferry has AC, otherwise enjoy the breeze. Once you get across there does not seem to be much to do. We just biked and biked along the Mississippi. Then turned back. Have fun and enjoy the ferry. Nice views of the city.
Steve Schlicht
A great treat with a gorgeous view of New Orleans and the Old Algiers historic district from The Mississippi River!
Keep a few dollars in ones and some quarters on you just in case the Ferry isn't operating upon your return to the terminal.
An alternate way to get back to the Algiers side of The River is to take a streetcar on Canal St. north to Elk St. and catch the bus. Signs are plainly marked with which number bus will take you back (100 and 101) and you can even text the posted number for an ETA.
You'll be back in no time. I think it's a couple bucks total for this streetcar and bus ride route. Same as you'd have spent on the Ferry return.
Slow life down and enjoy the sights and the history!
Chris Jeffery
I ride this ferry often. It's very relaxing and a very affordable way across the river.
Ratha
The ferry is air conditioned so that's nice. The staff was friendly as well. We parked along the street to take the ferry downtown, 4 stars because there is no gated parking for ferry goers. I recomend taking the ferry if you are coming from Westbank to any one of the awesome events downtown, it beats getting stuck in traffic on the way home.
Robert Cameron
As a resident of the Lower Garden District for over 30 years the Algiers Ferry has been a godsend since I moved to Algiers 2 years ago. A quick bike ride and a short trek across the river and I'm back in the old hood. Except for holidays and festivals the ferry usually has a reasonably small number of passengers and there's plenty of room for my bicycle. I never go inside the ferry terminal so can't describe it. The $2 fare is well worth it when you consider the alternatives for a non-driver. Taking RTA buses across the river takes forever and a cab or Uber can be expensive. Plus you get a unique view of the river and vessels passing.
Joe “UmbruSpatior”
Noisy, smelly but runs every half hour like clockwork. Efficient for public transit not sure what else you can ask for. $2 a trip if you don't want to mess with exact change pick up the RTA app on your phone where you can buy a 1 time use, day, week, or month pass. The wife and I got more than our money's worth out of our 5 day pass. I see a lot of folks asking about the schedule so here it is.

Great way to avoid the traffic on the bridge if you're heading to the CBD. The terminal really needs to be updated to add a public restroom. They only take cash and you must have the exact fare because they will not make change.
Sharon Hoyt
This is not a cruise ship..its a very short senic ride across the river to Algiers.
Stop at a hotel for bathroom in route.
Algiers is cute. Good drinks & food close to embankment.
Cash only no change. $2 unless over 65 or under $2
The RTA pass works for ferry too.
This is the view when you first board in New Orleans side
. .the Natchez is a tourist riverboat..not the ferry.
Mario Cavicchi
In old Algiers. Good area to walk
Bradley Mccord
The best way to get from one side to the other, no parking fee, $2 per, it's literally a 5 minute ride. The reviews below are comical. Who doesn't like old and classic fun in Nola. If you can go without a bathroom and Air condition you don't need to be here.....lol
Brian Runk
$3 per ride is very fair. Fast with little to no waiting. Great views from the ferry. Park on the street if you can find a spot. Parking lot near the ferry is $10.
Stephy Boggs
The ferry ride was very affordable and fun. Everyone was so nice!
Keshava Mysore
it is one of the terminals of the 4 or so ferry terminals in NOLA region that helps people moving across the river for a reasonable price. the place can be maintained better, but well the ferries are maintained and are safe, so no complaints of other stuff!!
Roy McNee
As the ferry is a replacement for the moment, and no idea when normal service will be restored, this is a basic service. No facilities are available. Just walk down the ramp, pay and get on board.
Lamont Robinson
At $2 per person, it's a low-cost alternative to driving to downtown and paying $20 for parking. Combined with a streetcar day pass for $3, it's a cost-effective way to see most of downtown, French Quarter, and the Garden District.
Jonathan Zapata
Fairly cheap ferry. $2 for a one-way ticket. The ferry ride is short, so do not expect a long trip. Great view of the NOLA Riverwalk!
John “Kevin” Griffin
If driving near New Orleans experience the Algiers Ferry across the Mississippi River. Drive onto the ferry boat then get out of the car and walk to the boat rail to experience the scenic views of NOLA and the sound of the ferry boat as you cross the river to or from NOLA riverfront.
H III
It was a nice quick ride. You really dont have to wait too long for anything. I do wish it ran it bit longer but I get that those are the high traffic times. The main thing i had an issue with was one of the employees. To be honest thats why i knocked off a star. I understand now that you need to have exact change but at the time i didnt. The exact encounter happened like this. I approached him at the place where they take money and he was barely paying attention. Face down on his cellphone. I'm not the type to care about service with a smile but at least show some type of caring. The smallest bill i had on me was a $5. I said "hey can i get change?" "Dont got change" he replied while not even looking up from his cellphone. As I said he obviously didn't care. My thoughts were since everyone is giving dollars anyway how hard would it be to collect $3 from the people behind me and give me that exchange for the ride and the $5. It would have litterally taken a couple of minutes. I ask "couldnt you just collect 3 from the people coming up?" "Why dont you do that yourself" luckily enough a guy behind me informed me of the coin machine because again he didnt care enough to do that either. I go back grab change and deposit it. He still never looked up from his phone. Aside from that one senerio I enjoyed catching the ferry 3 other times before I left. All in all good experiance.

Convenient and a decent facility. Remember that the ferry takes exact change only, the fare being 2 dollars. There is a change machine unlike the Canal St terminal.

A tired but still functional terminal. Ferry is a great way to get to the French Quarter without the hassle of transport and parking. Visited numerous times in February 2016.
Nina Biniji
The fare is $2 each way and you must have exact change. Its cash only. Overall the ferry is a great way to get around.

Five stars. It's a ride straight to the quarter and is in two blocks from my house. Closed in fog and yesterday closed due to debris in the dock caused by the flood. I wish it ran all day.
