I just got my 6th tattoo but first at Black Hatchet and I can honestly say I won't ever be going anywhere else. Jess was awesome. Super down to earth, easy to talk to and did absolutely incredible work. My tattoo is perfectly crisp and sharp and came out even better than I'd hoped. The shop itself is clean and has a fantastic environment. From beginning to end everyone I dealt with on the phone or in person was friendly and accommodating. Went to Ricky to get my upper arm done and had an amazing experience! Not only did I leave with an amazing piece of art on my arm but Ricky and his staff were awesome. I love this place and recommend it to everyone anytime tattoos come up in conversation. Right before COVID hit I got a traditional plague doctor mask on my leg by Eric Hesseltine (@hesselkong) and it looks amazing. Then in October ‘20 we started a Japanese piece on my chest that I gave him free range to use his artistic abilities and do his own thing. (The only parts that were stenciled are the mask on the chest, the daruma doll in the armpit and the face of the samurai on my arm. Everything surrounding that is freehand.) About 25hrs of time under the needle later we have finished the chest, a portion of my ribs, full armpit and the lines on my upper arm. I cannot wait to finish this project. Not to mention the shop itself is extremely clean, they have a bunch of books with everyone’s portfolios upstairs, flash books, TV’s everywhere and as many jolly ranchers as you want, and everyone there is very nice. I do quite a bit of research on shops and artists before I get work done and I’ll save you the trouble, just book an appointment. The only artist I’ve gotten work from is Eric, but I wouldn’t hesitate to get a piece from anybody at this shop. They have someone at this shop for everybody’s tattoo needs whether it’s traditional, Japanese, realism, the cartoon color style, coverups… everything. Check their Instagram/online portfolio’s, the pictures speak for themselves.

I had my first tattoo done by Dave in the past month. Both sessions ran about 6-7 hours but he made it feel like nothing. Great attitude and environment to be in. The guy is an artist and it shows. He is the first and only artist I will see for work and I can't say enough about how great of an experience it was and how amazing the tattoo came out. Worth every penny and every hour spent there. Gina was absolutely amazing as well, from the moment she answered the phone she gave off such a great vibe that carried over to every phone call and email exchanged.

Five months later, not only am I still consistently going to Ela for my eyelash extensions, the lash tech that used to do my lashes is now going to her too! Mariela provides exceptional service and is unbelievably knowledgeable, talented, and accommodating! Her level of professionalism continuously impresses me. My appointment always starts on time, and my lashes are never anything less than fabulous. One of my favorite things about Ela is her honesty and dedication to her craft. Like any of the talented tattoo artists at Black Hatchet, Ela will always explain to you in-depth why something may or may not be a good idea. She is the licensed and certified professional after all. Ela genuinely has your best interest in mind, and providing you with an outcome you will love is of utmost importance to her. I recommend Ela to anyone looking for eyelash extensions and other cosmetic services! The front-of-the-house staff, Sam, is probably one of the friendliest and most welcoming individuals I've ever interacted with. Black Hatchet is undoubtedly a top-notch shop that provides the best possible experience out there – all the way around!

I have been getting my lashes and brows done by Ela for a few months now and I can't say enough good things about her and her work! Every set of lashes she gave me have been gorgeous, and she found the perfect balance of glam and fullness that suited my style without being overbearing. Also, after having had my brows microbladed 5 years ago at a different place, I decided to try it here since they were almost completely faded out. Ultimately we opted for a powder brow and I could not be happier with the end result! My brows have always been sparse and slightly uneven, but Ela found the perfect color match and gave them a more defined and balanced look that now takes 0 effort on my part for them to be perfect every day. I'll be recommending Ela to anyone I know who is looking for lashes, brows, or other related cosmetic services. She explains the process thoroughly, is happy to answer questions, and makes sure aftercare instructions are clear so you get the best "life" out of your lash extensions and tattoo brows. Overall, the shop is always clean, the other staff members I've talked to have always been friendly and welcoming, and all of my visits have been great experiences so far! I'll definitely be back for more lash work in the future and also won't hesitate to book one of their tattoo artists once I finally decide what I want next!

My first time here was two years ago when they were still Painted Soul Tattoo. I walked in one night right before they were closing to talk to someone about what I wanted to do for a tattoo and book and appointment. I was hoping to do it on my birthday which was three weeks away. There wasn’t anything available for about 5 or 6 weeks out. Which I was going to book. But I explained I was going to be starting school for massage therapy and need to have time for my tattoo to heal before that because I would need to be able to be massaged in school. Plus I had my birthday off from work. I didn’t know it at the time that I was talking to the owner Ricky. But after explaining my situation he looked at his schedule and asked one of his friends who had an appointment to reschedule so he could get me in. I was so appreciative and my tattoo is beautiful. It’s three 3D butterflies and a dragonfly on my arm. I get so many compliments on it. I’m very excited to say I am going there again next week to have another tattoo done. I am booked with Jess for this one. After my first experience I would trust anyone there. I recommend them to people all the time⭐️🌟⭐️🌟⭐️

Great experience and great results. I have never received more compliments on a tattoo than the one I got from here. Line work and lettering was impeccable. Staff is very friendly and personable. The detail with every interaction and artwork is second to none. Very clean environment and after reviewing the new health department standards it is clear even before COVID-19 came to town, Black Hatchet Tattoo was already going above the standard to make sure their clients were in the cleanest and best environment. I was originally referred by a friend to Black Hatchet Tattoos, formally Painted Soul Tattoos. I was looking to have a large, black and white, piece done on my back. Ricky Borchert, was top-notch from the beginning. I gave him my ideas and images for the piece and he worked to create something I would love. His craft, customer service, and thoughtfulness exceeded my expectations. I left with a piece that was better than anything I could have come up with. Since the original piece, I have gone back for several other portrait pieces, and am looking to go back for more!! Aside from Ricky’s individual work, the shop itself is 5 stars all the way. It’s a clean, welcoming, professional space if you’re looking to get some quality work done. I am north of Boston, it takes me about 3 hours to get there, but it is worth the drive!

I was impressed from the moment I walked in the door. The shop is very clean and has a really cool atmosphere. The downstairs tattoo area has an open concept with tv monitors all around. The crew play movies and engage in banter with one another -it's very entertaining. From what I saw, everyone does phenomenal work. My artist was Bryan Aponte. He truly is a master of the craft. I am beyond satisfied with the way my tattoo came out. It is one of the most realistic tattoos I've ever seen -I get compliments on it all the time. Truly a great experience in every aspect. Ela (Mariela) was great - easy booking process and lashes. I booked a custom set because I wanted them to look natural, but she recommended a hybrid set because it would be more "durable." She didn't overdo my lashes and they still looked natural when she was done. Ela seemed knowledgeable about lash application and care, and I picked up a care kit (lash shampoo, brush, fan) from her. A week in, and I've shed a few lashes, but they still look nice.

Everyones personality at this shop is just so awesome we felt so comfortable right away. All of the artists' work at this shop is incredible, I would have work done by anyone there. Our artists listened to our ideas and worked hard to get it right in the design phase to make sure we loved it before moving on. I love this shop! The artists are amazingly talented. (Shout out to Bryan!) The atmosphere is fun. But the thing that makes me a life-long fan & customer is the professionalism and genuine care for their customers. Once while I was getting a tat done another customer came in who was quite clearly under the influence and in no shape to get a tattoo. The customer was treated with respect and care while being refused service. This person was offered food, water, and also use of the couch for a nap. A taxi ride was also offered. This wasn't just done to protect the business from a lawsuit. If you heard the genuine concern for this person's welfare that was said out of earshot you would also know it is not just about the business, it's all about the customers in this shop.

I've worked with Katie Slaughter on two pieces -- an original composition on my back over several sittings and a touch-up for a small piece of flash on my arm in which the color did not heal correctly. I've known Katie since she was an apprentice, and the scope of her talent and vision has always been incredible. She's tremendously gentle, always checking in with clients to ensure they're comfortable and asking if they need to take breaks. I would absolutely work with her again.

Can honestly say this is my favorite tattoo shop. The work that gets put into each design is unreal. They always take what you want to heart and go about making it the best piece of work you could ever dream of. The quality is unmatched. I live in a South Africa now and regularly get asked where I get my tattoos done and everyone is sad when I tell them it was somewhere in Wallingford, Connecticut lol. If you have an idea and you want something 10x more dope, go here. If not, you're weird.

I drive by Black Hatchett Tattoo Co all the time on my way to and from Matthew’s Printing. It always looked like a really neat place from the outside, so I checked them out on Instagram. I found Lex’s profile and saw she was doing some amazing flash for Christmas. Well I’ve wanted a Narnia street lamp for the longest time and she had a design that was exactly what I envisioned. The shop is extremely clean. Everyone there is super friendly. I honestly can’t wait to get back to do my next piece! I just have to figure out what it is! Haha

I came in and got a hybrid set of lashes done by Ela and have gotten tons of compliments on them!! I booked with her through her Instagram account (@lashedby.ela) where she was super responsive and answered all of my questions and got me booked in no time. I've heard from friends who have lash extensions that getting them done can be a little uncomfortable or tedious but Ela was so gentle I honestly dozed off more than once. Once my set was complete she talked me through the process of washing them and brushing them and recommended quite a few ways for me to improve retention and keep them looking fresh. She provided me with a lash bath and a few different spoolies to brush them out and get them clean. She also reached out to me the next day to see how they were holding up. Two weeks later they are almost as full as they are the day I got them done - I am super in love with them! Ela is super thorough and incredibly professional and I can't recommend her enough!

My artist jessica recently moved there and Saturday was my 1st appointment. instead of having individual rooms everybody shares a large space which I was really comfortable with. Instead of music fighting against each other from different artists they put on Netflix and we had a great time watching some really stupid shows altogether. I never felt awkward at all the apprentice is super sweet and will get you whatever you want including lunch. Location was really easy to find and right off of the highway, lots of parking.

This review is based solely on how my tattoos turned out. I’ve been here twice and both times the artists were super nice, everything was clean, and the atmosphere was welcoming. Which is why it truly saddens me to leave a less than stellar review. As I previously stated, this review is based on how my tattoos ultimately turned out. Let me preface this by saying I have multiple tattoos from both in state and out of state. I’ve seen quite a few artists with different techniques. For whatever reason my tattoos heal so badly here. I got my first one here a couple years ago. It healed kinda weird and I even went back for a touch up. The artist was super nice about it. I was hesitant to come back after that but I decided to give it another go because the artists are so nice. Well it happened it again and this time definitely worse :(. The lines spread out almost looks smudged. It looks all scaly. I really don’t know why the tattoos from here don’t heal well. All my other tats healed flawlessly. It really is such a bummer cause now I’m so embarrassed to have the tat showing. I really wish this place could have worked for me since everyone else had such glowing reviews.
