Relaxed environment. They do walk-ins, saving the whole day of Saturday for them. If you want a larger appointment you'll first need to set up a consultation appointment. Then if you want an art check before the tattoo you can set up that appointment up to two weeks ahead of the tattoo date

Daniel is awesome! His recommendations really gave the concept I wanted a good pop. Really excited to work with him on growing this piece. By the way, seriously listen to the artist if they have thoughts, reservations and/or suggestions because THEY DO TATTOOS FOR A LIVING NOT YOU. My husband got a cover-up done on his hand by Chad. You seriously can't even tell what he had underneath. Both tattoos were very reasonably priced. Definitely will keep going back for more.

Only been here three times and one was to finish up a half-sleeve that I had started several years ago, finish up a leg sleeve, and to start on another half-sleeve. I can't speak much on the expertise of the other guys in the shop but Chad is amazing with his work. From pictures that I have seen of the other guy's art, I'm surprised my tattoos have been as cheap as they have been because it all looks beyond amazing. Plus, they dedicate their Saturdays to just walk-ins which is amazing for a shop to do, so I definitely recommend them to anybody.

Previous works line the walls and made me feel confident that I was in the right place because of how amazing they were. I had Steve doing my tattoo and it was a very enjoyable experience. Highly 'unprofessional'! I had some lettering done, and although Gunner did a decent job, the didn't finish the shading I requested. He told me "no problem 'we can get you back in to finish the shading . I called to see when he could finish ( I did let him know that I wanted to be done by vacation time), got a recording saying someone would call back. But they never did. They blew it off saying "we don't make appointments over the phone".Also added a color that I 'didn't request' . Now it looks like a flower is 'bleeding'!! NOT fading, but a red that doesn't belong! Although I know the owner, and it is the closest shop to my house, I seriously doubt that I will go back to that location!

I was so excited! I had an amazing experience. I have already booked for my next one. I’ve always heard tattoos are addictive and now I understand. Drove in from Charlotte for work, my guy down here was sick and had to cancel. I found this Gem and they had a 2 hr opening and got me in for the last 2 hrs of business. Steve absolutely did a fantastic job on a custom add on to a previous tattoo that I had. I will definitely be back when I make it down. Steve did an incredible job blending the 2 and on top of that hand drew it straight to my arm and then tatted it up. Great personality and an amazing talent!! The shop was so clean and very professional atmosphere. Great find and I really wish there were 10 stars I could give Steve and his studio!

Very nice and clean studio. Everyone who works here is super friendly and awesome. Ashley Henson is my artist of choice, and does outstanding work since becoming a client of hers. She listens to what you want and designs your tattoo to your liking. Want only black and white? No problem. Want some color here and there? No problem there. Never had a problem with the designs or after care of any tattoo I've received from this place. Highly highly recommend this place, and Ashley, for all your tattooing wants and needs.

Came as a walk-in. Never heard of this place but I was close so decided to stop in. First off, the place is super clean. Smells good and everything seems sterile and kept well. Lots of light. Right off the bat had a good impression. Got with Steve and told him about my idea. He took about 10-15 minutes to draw up a sketch and while doing that I reviewed his work. Has a folder on the front table. Liked what I saw. He came back, showed me the sketch and I decided to do it and wow, came out great! Steve was friendly and polite and super talented. Almost fell asleep on his chair! Recommend to all. Again place is clean, even the bathroom. Parking was super easy and simple. Gave me a receipt for my tattoo which Is a first! Whole experience was perfect. Will be going back again for sure!

So I moved to Charleston and needed a solid tattoo shop. I walked into upper hand the first week they opened, and met Russell. He was friendly, helpful, and an all around nice guy. He helped me decide on a tattoo and we went for it. During the tattoo process, we had great conversation which made the tattooing fly by. I really enjoyed that. The finished product, was amazing. His lines and coloring are perfect. I couldn't be happier with it. So I kept coming back and he has tatted me a few times. I found my shop for sure. Let's not forget about Mr. John Black, who has also tatted me a few times. This dude has some awesome stories and has been doing it forever. His skills are second to none, and he did a very cool "Aloha Mickey" tattoo which I feel is very original. Both guys have been a pleasure to get work done by, and I always recommend this shop to anyone that asks. The place is clean and inviting. I love it. Can't say enough good things. Keep it up guys! Met with Ashley Henson at Upper Hand Tattoo to get a sun tattoo with a few things baked in. She did a fantastic job and exceeded my expectations. It has taken me 5 years to get this done and she designed it and knocked it out of the park. I would also say that I had a great time because the other artists there were very fun and you could tell they all got a long including the 30+ year guy that didn't say much. Upper Hand was also very clean and a very nice office. I am so jacked over this tattoo! Thank you Ashley for doing a great piece on my shoulder.

All lines are smooth and straight, wonderful and bright coloring too! Was vacationing in Charleston last week and walked into this studio. The studio was extremely clean, the artist met with me immediately drew up the tattoo I wanted exactly how I wanted it no edits or modifications. He then placed the tattoo exactly right and very quickly and efficiently inked me and it looks perfect I love it. I have been tattooed all over the country the is my 14th tat and this was one of the best and most professional studios I've ever been to. Highly recommend and would go back in a heartbeat.

A friend of mine recommended Upper Hand Tattoo Studio. I'm glad I listened! Upper Hand made my (first) tattoo experience worthy of a written review :) The business was organized and clean; even the bathroom was spotless! I arrived just after they opened, and showed them the design I wanted. Chad offered to ink my tattoo, and I'm so glad he did. Chad was patient, listened to my ideas about the design, size, and placement. After coming to a mutual understanding, Chad created the stencil, a simple outline of the tattoo with none of the shading or colors. I was nervous about the lack of detail, but then realized that Chad, being the artist he was, would fill in the blanks, knowing what I wanted. Throughout our two hours together, Chad and I talked and laughed about ourselves. I learned about his love of all things tattoo, from the joy of endless variety in art and design, to the necessary science of needle quality, ink colorfastness, and building his own tattoo machine. Chad definitely loves going to work each day! After inking the black and shading, Chad took a break. Taking a peek at the tattoo, I was stunned at the details he added. I sent a picture to my daughter, who joked that I should leave the tattoo as is so my grandkids could use colored sharpies to color in the rest. Already Chad's artistry was evident! After the break came the colors and more shading. When Chad finally finished, I stared at the mirror, amazed at the beautiful tattoo Chad had given me. I definitely appreciate Chad's mastery of his work. Go to Upper Hand for your tattoo! Ask for Chad!

I visited three other tattoo parlors today before ended up here. This place was spotless smelt amazing and the staff was super friendly. The first place I visited was rude so this was very welcoming. I told them it was my first tattoo and that I was a crybaby. All three of them made me and my sister laugh Dave held my sweaty hands while Steve answered all my questions with humor which is just what I needed I didn't catch the woman's name but she stayed longer because I asked her to just for morale support and asked how I was doing after Steve began working on me. He did amazing work didn't rush even though we went into closing time and he made sure I liked it. If ever I want another tattoo this is the only place I will go.
