Reviews of City Market
Matt Mead
This little shop is an interesting place. Selection is solid enough, staff are cool but the location makes for a lot of weird interaction with those panhandling around the area. It's safe enough and obviously those you encounter heading in aren't the stores responsibility but would recommend coming in the day or in groups just for the sake of safety.

Love The Workers My Dog CocoBean & I Generally Go Here Late Night At Least A Few Nights A Week. It's A Short Walk From My Apartment & We R Almost Always Greeted By The Cashiers & They Are OK With My Dog Coming In & Routinely Greet Him By Name & Give Him A Treat. Prices Could Be Better But They Are The Only Store Open That Late Near My Apartment & Even If There Were Another Store City Mart Has Gained A Loyal Customer In Me & CocoBean!!!
J Anen
Friendly staff, decent selection, convenient. Prices are higher than big chain stores but we are paying for the convenience. Glad they are there.
S Nerdrock
They have all the essentials like American Spirits, Pepperidge Farm cookies, Ben & Jerry's ice cream, and a selection of blue cream sodas. That's good enough for me, so they're A-Okay in my book.
Carl Joslin
City Market is great. I have been going there for years. They are open till 2am and it's a great place to get your late night drinks and snacks. They also have a small deli with fried chicken, burritos and other assorted goodies. If you like that Seattle freeze attitude, you will definitely meet employees with no customer service skills as well... but not everyone who works there is rude. Check it out, they even have a small parking lot.

I wish you could keep the vegan sandwiches in stock for more then 3 days a week. Your deli is not vegan and vegetarian friendly and coul easily be fixed if you made the vegan options in store. The world is switching slowly. I guess I'll only come on Thursday and Friday only.
Bob Purcell
This is my go-to place for quick early-morning/late-night grocery/beer runs, nice staff, good packaged food made onsite (haven't tried everything, but the fried chicken, breakfast sandwiches, & pudding are good.) Good beer selection, hot coffee to go in the am...not super-cheap, but it's Capitol Hill...
James Dean
Great stop for a quick food or snacks, some home goods, household staples. Tad more expensive then the regular grocery store but super helpful in a pinch
Leslie Marshall
Seriously has the best fried chicken I've ever had. No joke. I was giving a coworker a ride home, and he asked if we could stop in. He is vegetarian, but STILL recommended that I get the chicken. I was noncommittal at this point. However, when I walked in, it smelled like some *delicious* fried chicken. So naturally.. I had to get some. Got a four piece for 6.49 (breast, leg, thigh, and wing [I request that they sub another wing for a leg cause... well.. I like wings.]) I've been back twice in three weeks. But this place has so much more! Its actually like a little grocery store, and has a pretty decent dry goods and frozen foods assortment. No more movie rentals though.

I'm going to miss this place when it goes. It has been the best market that is near me. Everyone is so nice here and business is excellent. The service is fast and kind. I'd love to see this place stay so I can continue to go here
Makalapua Goodness
One of the only places in Capitol Hill where you can get a good sandwich for under $10.
Ashley Houston
*Cheap eats
*Cheap chicken
*Kinda pricey regular hygiene products, but this is a convenience store!
*They got flume vapes
*And a buttload of beer! Wish y'all had a malt liquor but you know Seattle... No malt liquor in bad areas.
Sure some people may not be gleeful, but I don't blame them... Have you been on Olive Way lately!?
Bailey Keeler
It’s not just an amazing convenience store, it’s the spot with the BEST fried chicken to go!
Robert Kinard
Great local family store to get what you need if you don't want to go to the big grocery stores. Staff is excellent and products are fresh and reasonably priced. This place is consistently clean and well kept by their friendly and respectful staff.
Brett Huemmer
Cool little market that attracts terrible people. I once saw the owner chase a guy into the street with a baseball bat. I have mixed feelings about that. One the one hand, the guy was stealing - so yeah. But on the other hand, are you really going to brain a guy for stealing a beer? I mean, it's an impossible situation I guess. Nothing great, nothing terrible overall.

Big city living means big city obstacles to daily sanity, such as the nearest full service grocery store being dozens (or wayyyyy more!!) of blocks away.
Capitol Hill has been blessed to have an intermediary located in the vibrant heart of city life, the iconic landmark City Market for well over 30 years!
DON'T MISS THE FAMOUS HAND DRAWN DAILY SKETCH OUT FRONT AS YOU ENTER!! They have reached legendary status amongst the true locals round these parts!
BEST HOT DELI IN DOWNTOWN!
Jason Brown
I love city. It's a nice market. Friendly folks and it's kinda my local spot.
John Chowning
A small but fairly complete selection of food as well as everything from a hammer to a ball of string you may need for city living. The deli and fried chicken are awesome as well so enjoy this Capital Hill treasure and shopping local is investing in our own neighborhood.
They also own the laundromat and wash and fold nextdoor and their laundry service is amazing and costs less than you would think. Give it a try once and afterwards you will likely do as I have done and decide that you too will never have to stand gaurd for hours over your laundry again.
Shawn M269
City Market has the most polite customer service oriented staff I've had the pleasure to deal with and the best fried chicken hands down...better than the place in Georgetown and place on beacon hill. The best chicken...ive purchased multiple times and it's as if it gets better each time...the crunch when you bite into a piece literally melts in your mouth...chicken heaven. The best....go get you some chicken...city market.
James Druckemiller
They have very good food.they we're very friendly when i came to visit
Jillian Mcwhorter
Good for late night last thing open but late night employees be kinda rude and they are taxing for anything .... plus i hate that they downsized the pasta bowls but charged a dollar more now need 2 to even be satisfied smh I loved those pasta bowls and marble cakes roo lol
Trevor Gilmore
You know when you need to pick up something, just like one thing, but you'd rather dive into a wood chipper face first then go to Safeway or QFC for just a quick thing? This place has what you need and then some! They have an incredibly well stocked freezer, a respectable selection of fresh produce, and things that I didn't think I would ever find in a corner store of this size. They also have fantastic hot and cold deli food including some pretty legit frozen Thai meals made locally. Plus, sometimes the people behind the counter give my dog a treat, which always gets a full five-star rating from me.

During my visit to Seattle, I spent 4 months for business. The customer service was average, not bad but not great either. The store selection is basic and pricey. The cooked food is salty and horrible too people with taste buds. Overall, if you need something quick and convenient it will do.
Dmitriy Todd
I live quite close to City Market and visit often. They are open late (until 2AM) and have really saved my bacon late at night when I needed a toilet plunger, light bulb, or power strip for whatever reason.
They sell a very respectable selection of beer and soda. There’s the usual suspects like Bud, Bud light, and PBR but also an unusually good selection of other beers, namely a banana beer that is very popular and a few sours/stouts/ciders/etc. that I haven’t been able to easily locate elsewhere.
There are also many food items: frozen pizza, ice cream, chicken patties and nuggets, those frozen chicken pot pies, but also ramen, canned goods, etc. The pet supply section is really great as well for the space it’s given.
Overall, I would recommend!
Nate Bryce
Love City Market! This spot has an impressive variety of shopping options, in our case everything we needed to make breakfast burritos, nachos. They also have some produce and household necessities. Have them make you a sandwich! Tom Skerritt on marble rye will not let you down. They also have quick bite grabs, a solid beer and wine selection, and a movie store.
The staff is awesome, super friendly. If you're in Cap Hill and need a thing, try here first.
TC
This is seriously the best bodega I have ever been to. The curation is incredible and unexpected, and I easily found a lot of my favorite things I can’t easily find in one place anywhere else I go. I was just a visitor in town, but I miss it already. Those Jojo’s potatoes and chicken tenders with their honey Dijon... *chef’s kiss* And they have refrigerated pre-prepared meals from several local eateries which is also a nice touch. Overall really robust and considerate, they’re open pretty late, and the staff was friendly! I hardly ever write google reviews, but had to say something about City Market. Highly recommend!
Jennifer Marie
It's an odd little store lol...I actually came out here to do a Mobee Mission. It's really small! There's only like 5 isles total. They have condiments with household items & soy sauce. Musty smell. The BEST thing about this store? Not ONE employee came by to bother me or to 'watch' me to see if I shoplift! For me this is a good thing because this Mission took a little bit of time & I had to take ALOT of photos & some store employees will try to ruin that, NOT HERE! It's nice to not be bothered! I just don't know how fresh their food is... 😶🤔
Gabe Bursk
Came here for the fried chicken and jojos, wasn’t disappointed. I’ll probably opt for the strips next time over the breast though. Seemed like the threw half a bird in the fryer and didn’t even try to debone it. Delicious, but not for me.
David Snyder
Far better than other Capitol Hill corner store. They open early and close late, no slashing hours like other places. They also have nice staff, unlike the other place
Robert Benson
Great market to go to. Never had any problems and they usually have what I need. The deli is also not bad at all, I like the chicken tender meal combo.
David Jack
Great store food was really good

The mini food mart side is open from 6Am to 1:50AM, 365 days of the week. I have never seen them closed in over 35 years except once when the power was out for 2r hours. The staff at City Market are always helpful. Care about the community. Stock lots and lots of items. Prices are a bit higher than Grocery store but they have a wider selection than most mini marts. The Deli will make any sandwich you want, they always have Been and Beef Burritos, Joe Joe fries, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, chicken fingers and fried chicken in the hot counter. The cooler has cakes, deserts, boiled eggs, cold sandwiches, take n bake pizzas and salads all made in the deli. They also have vegan sandwiches and other items from Hill Side Quicky. They have a small fresh fruit and vegetable area. A small selection of video DVDs for sale but not for rent any more. They have parking for about 10 cars. They have a londromate next door that is open from 10AM to 9PM. (Small load is $3.75 wash/ $0.25 cents per 10 min to dry). The londromate is always clean, machines work, give you clean clothes, they have tiny boxes of detergent and dryers sheets for $1.00. They have a drop off laundry service where someone else will wash and fold your laundry from 11 am to 5PM. They have a change machine that takes $1, 5, 10 and $20 dollar bills. If a machine takes your money without wash and no attendent is on duty just go to the mini mart and they will help you.

This store has become essential in my life

My favorite corner store in Seattle. Sure, it's more expensive than Safeway or Kroger but the hilarious shop signs, great selection, and super cool employees make it worth it. Support local!
Sean
Love the Mom and Pop atmosphere here. Prices are a little high which is absolutely fine by me. I will usually do all my "this and that" shopping here and will continue to contribute. Stop by here some time if your close, heck just swing by and see what I'm talking about.
Zachary Boyle
I frequent here often, it being one of 2 stores right next to me.
Vaughn Kline
Cool store, always interesting people and friendly, helpful staff. Wouldn't expect it but their fried chicken is awesome. Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and well seasoned. if you're a fried chicken fan, you must try it!
Kaira Alberona
This place has the best fried chicken 🥰🥰🥰 …
Oscar Silvestre
Pricey! But they have a good selection and friendly staff, plus they are open late, so that's a big plus.
Nicolas Rounds
My favorite corner store at the Bottom of Capitol Hill; everything you could possibly need and more. Amazing Wine/Beer selection, solid fried chicken and every corner store food item you could possibly desire. Did I mention that I got my Thanksgiving turkey from here? The staff rules, this place rules; go visit them.
Russell Dobbins
So expensive, at least they're open late
Naomi Ishikawa
No more overpriced than anything else in the city. They do however have a good selection--if I'm paying a little bit more, at least here I have a choice. My opinion is merchandise is merchandise is merchandise. I totally dig the employees who are always friendly though, and it's their service that sets them apart.
j griego
Great clean and fast service. Workers are nice and helpful.
Delta Varela-Glos
You have got to got to try their bone-in fried chicken. It's made fresh in house and some of the very best in the city. Pricing is honest and for the neighborhood it's reasonable too.
Richard McLean
The sisters here are awesome, and this sandwich I ordered is rediculously delicious. For the price, Idk how they make $! HUGE! (Penny for reference). All the ingredients taste super fresh, love this place!
Gucci Velli

Deanna Keahna
My first visit was some years ago needed to do laundry so I found out that this laundry mat was here from a friend so I thought I would give it a try.so here I am putting my laundry in and while I'm putting in the last of my laundry thinking about where I could get some food so when I got to the dryer putting my clothes in I could smell this aroma of this scrumptious food so I went to find out where cause I didn't want to go far cause I'm New to Seattle then and it was nextdoor thank God so I'm looking forward to that great smell of fried chicken had dark chicken of course and potatoe wedges and a Mountain Dew so when I'm doing my laundry yep that's where I get the best chicken in Seattle js
Jason Thompson
2021 edit. The deli is always closed and they’re not as friendly. What a shame.
Such friendly staff. They have what you need and even a hot deli. Good place to stop for a late nite snack.
