Reviews of J's Seafood Dock
Woah, what an amazing snack. Same as the other reviews, try the oysters!! Super nice owners and an amazing experience.
Great food for sea food lovers! Portions are small so it's better to try a few meals here or have space in stomach for all food in this french market.
The oysters here were absolutely amazing!!! Got a dozen raw and the oyster shucker Larry was fantastic, super friendly and nice. Both fantastic service and fantastic oysters. Didn't try the other dishes but I'll definitely be back to give them a try, the crawfish looked and smelled awesome and I saw nothing but empty plates all around. Highly recommend stopping and grabbing a bite here while walking through the French Market!
Try the crawfish pie!! Great place for lunch! We found this place off of youtube and it didnt disappoint!
We loved this place! Ray and Grace went above and beyond introducing us to oysters and creole cruise! We had so much fun at here and they made the experience even better. Highly recommended!
This place was recommended by my sister, from her previous trip to New Orleans.
All I can say is wow... Everything was tasty,
fresh and well made. It was all made relatively fast. The oysters were huge! I’ve never seen or tasted anything like it. I tried the other food stands, J’s is hands down the best.
This place is within the French Market and it serves fresh seafood. They had a lot of variety ranging from raw oysters to shrimp tacos and alligator sandwiches. I had what everyone else seemed to be having, raw oysters, fresh from the sea and they were really big and really fresh and really really cheap. They give you a variety of hot sauces to enjoy it with, and the bar tender is very funny and generous.
Amazing oysters, freshly shucked while you sit. Kimbo, the shucker, dressed them perfectly and was friendly and talkative as he prepared our platter.
I went here twice and the food exploded in my mouth. So good. In fact, I learned about it after a couple from Los Angeles told me about it during a swamp tour. I had the fried soft shell crab and BBQ Shrimp. First time having both meals. For one, you can get them cheaper than what you'll pay for at a restaurant. The BBQ Shrimp has the head and tail attached, which a waiter at another restaurant said that's the best way to cook them and many restaurants in New Orleans don't do it that way because it's too messy. Second, they take their time to cook the meals. Lastly, J is quite a hilarious guy and fun to be around.
Love the way I was treated at J's and love their way to prepare the oysters. I am not an oyster fan and every local advised me that I must try it at least once at all. Just got surprised by its flavour and will try the recipe at home.
It costs like 4 dollars more than another place. But I don't think you wanna leave French Quarter and go to Treme, Saint Charles, or anywhere else. You will spend about the same price for something less savory than this meal.
The oysters are the best my wife ever had, and the shrimp were amazing as well. The staff are very friendly, fun, and talented. The atmosphere is good if the weather is not too cold or hot and you don't mind a sort of old food court feel, improved by the various New Orleans music around. Highly recommended.
Fun spot in the French Market where you can enjoy an outdoor eating experience!
If you like seafood, you’ll find anything from oysters 🦪 to soft shell crab 🦀 to crawfish 🦞.
I first tried J’s while on a food tour, oysters were fabulous. I came back on my own the following day for crawfish. It was by far my favorite thing I ate during my visit to NOLA! Spicy and flavorful. I even took some back home on my carry on haha staff behind the bar were friendly and provided great service. I hope to visit again and come back to this place! A lovely gem at the French market.
Very fresh oysters and crewfish. They also have fried seafood. This is one of the best place at the French Market in New Orleans!
We tried crawfish and oysters in the market. Oysters were big fresh and juicy. Crawfish were freshly cooked and well marinade.
Food not too pricy. The vibe that sitting in a market and eating crawfish with hand is also amazing.
Delicious food! Must try the char-grilled oysters (which I did not manage to get photos of)
What an experience - I could not recommend this place more. We had the raw oysters and the chargrilled oysters. We watched them be shucked right in front of us - how shuckin’ good :). Make the effort and come here.
Such a cool and convenient stop while shopping at the French Market! I was on a mission to find the best oysters in NOLA and so couldn't pass up seeing a bed of oysters on ice being shucked right in front of the market!
The oysters had a clean taste to them, they didn't have that muck water taste, fresh in the open air of the French Market. Undoubtedly very fresh oysters straight from the dock, as advertised!
It's a fantastic stop and go! Grab your fresh food from the sea, eat, and keep on shopping/sightseeing! No need to sight see on an empty stomach, right?!
Awesome food and service! Some of the best crawfish I've ever had...great flavor, clean and spicy! Highly recommended! I'll be back next time I'm in Nola!
I had the fried oyster basket and it was awesome. The attendant was very sweet and a pleasure to talk to as well. Prices was great also.
Food is pretty tasty and the girl who takes the orders makeup is always pretty. Crawfish bites and fried pickles were what I ordered. Also tasted the crab claws, seasoning was good. Took off one star because they don’t give you to go containers, trays or anything. Just a basket of food lol. I guess since they have to be so fast paced it makes it easier on the crew
Must try when in NOLA! Loved them! They are a bit spicy so beware (at least for me) but deff worth it!
Raw Oyster was good a bit on the smaller side, still delicious and fresh. The chief special of shrimp and Jalapeño grit was missing much of the kick and I would pass on it.
The oysters were tasty, but we had to wait about 30 minutes before we got a half dozen of them.
Came here off one of youtubes recommendation videos. The mussels were okay but their fried crawfish were very good. This place is pretty expensive for what they give you, small portions and the Oysters were not as good as other places in the French district.
The char grilled oysters were great!
Magnificent shrimp boil and fried pickles!
Had a few things here and liked most of them. The soft shell crab is a bit overpriced. 1 for $17 seems excessive and it was pretty basic. That said, the broiled crawfish and grilled oysters were awesome and worth every penny. Flavors were incredible and tasted really fresh. 4.5 stars. I’d come back for the other stuff.
We tried so many restaurants looking for good Cajun food. We would up walking by at the market and it looked promising. Stopping here was the best decision we made in New Orleans. Jambalaya was really good, crab was great, but the shrimp and grits was unbelievable. I could eat here every day. Do yourself a favor and try this place.
The fried oysters were amazing as were the crayfish. Ordering system really confusing though. We were sitting down a while being ignored before someone finally told us to pay at another booth and bring the ticket. However the great food made up for the odd service throughout.
We decided to try J's seafood after watching a YouTube video thrill 6 gatekeeper series. My wife and I ordered the soft shell crab, seafood quesadilla and shrimp with creamed spinach, each dish was phenomenal. Flavorful, spicy without being too hot. We will definitely return before we head back home!
First time in New Orleans and J's Oyster Bar & Seafood in French Market is Awesome.... The staff was great and the food is delicious. Bonus.... Freshly cooked... Great place to Eat....
This was my pick from the French Market & I’m so glad I selected this one because it was delicious! Everything we tried was so good and tasty, we tried the fried, grilled & fresh oysters, bbq shrimp, rice & some other delicious plates ^_^ highly recommended! Definitely coming back whenever I come back to NOLA.
Great food!! I loved the fried crayfish tails.
The guys were super friendly. My first time eating craw fish, they showed me how to eat the lil buggers. They are so spicy and delicious, we ordered a pound then dug in, they are amazing! Will definitely be going back!
Fresh tasting seafood. Helpful and friendly staff.
Oysters were really good! Fresh!
Don't judge a book by it's cover. Sometimes food vendors can rock your taste buds world better than a sit down restaurant can. J's was very delicious. I ordered a half pound of heaven a.k.a shrimp. So flavorful. Great notes of heat. My nose got runny. Two words: Go Here. They are located at the French Market.
Crawfish was delicious with a huge kick. Perfect for the hot NOLA heat.
Their fried shrimp and fish were extremely seasoned, all over a generous amount of garlic and butter.
The Crawfish beignets were delicious and better than the crawfish pie. We waited 15 to 20 minutes, too long! We were not entertained by the gal calling me baby and Honey buns while she overcharged me. When I called her out on it she encouraged me to get something else instead, seems like she's done this before. Watched her screw up 2 other orders while we waited.
I had some really good oysters here, service was very quick. There's something relaxing about watching your oysters get prepare, then you get to sit out side, eat and wash it down with a beer.
Prices are on the higher end, but the quality is excellent. The staff are also incredibly friendly and conversational. Nice family run spot that opened just after Katrina and going strong
We tried several menu items and they were all good but the stand out for us had to be the jalapeño cheese shrimp grits.
Delicious food *and* priced well. I'm very glad a friend recommended this place, or else I wouldn't have noticed it. I had the fried crawfish tails and had to return for a crawfish pie.
Love the food, and services. Grat customer service very friendly and lively
Amazing. Love this place I’ll be here every weekend.
This is a good place to grab a pound of boiled crawfish. Crawfish are well cooked and well seasoned. It's in the French Market so be prepared to wait in line (both to pay and then to get the crawfish) and seating can be a challenge.
Heyy the staff was great and the oysters really good. BREEZY COOL and mellow. I would take a few friends. Kick back with Mr J and enjoy good food good price clean and the guys are handsome oysters shuckers !!
Delicious crawfish pie! Fresh food
Soft shell crab was so good and not very greasy. BBQ shrimp was also so good. A bit more expensive but overall still worth it.
Delicious crawfish with a little hit of awesome kick, we also had the A+ jambalaya and A++ grilled oysters (asked with no cheese).
Portions were tiny! $34 later still hungry
It was okay is all. I went next to them and got a crepe. We did have the oysters at J's and it was good. It's the experience I guess.
First time good was good, just took forever. I went back the next day, after waiting forever the food was cold and then messed up on the order giving me the wrong food.
Stevie was the best customer service in New Orleans! Made my trip, the food was good too. Try the seafood quesadilla
Worth the wait. Seriously. Don’t eat anywhere else in the market. Watching the “bad mother shucker” go to work is entertainment enough while waiting for your order of fresh, DELICIOUS, food.
This isn’t a review. I just have no way of getting ahold of this business. The phone number doesn’t work and there is no website. Does anyone know how to get ahold of them? I’m planning a vacation on December to New Orleans and would like to know if their hours are different around then.
Wow! Delicious. Loved the fish and fried oysters.
The crawfish were seasoned very well! The seafood quesadillas were delicious makes me want to go back for more.
Their oyster creole dish is to die for. I will make it a point to eat here every single time I visit NOLA. It's THAT good
I have eaten at almost every seafood restaurant there is in the Big Easy,New Orleans and y`all`s is the BEST hands down ,Love you Justin on BBOTT,I will be coming again to N.O. real soon ,your BB FAN WOOWOOT....
I had a soft shell crab poboy and it was fantastic. It's open air style market. Easy to get to by street car.
Their foods are on the higher price range for some of the same items that you can find in a proper restaurant. The taste is just slightly above average
Delicious seafood in the French market. The fried soft shell crab is a must for newcomers! Speedy service as well!
Pricey but worth it. We had the oysters on the half, and the shrimp tacos. Highly recommend them both.
We had to wait a long time for pretty simple food, the food was great but was not cheap. I had a fried soft shell crab and it was 15 dollars
food was good and a little more expensive than i imagined, in open market with other food merchants, char broiled oysters have shredded cheese
They have some of the best oysters and crawfish and the staff is insanely awesome.
Yummy. We had the char grilled oysters!
Best family owned seafood spot in the city go get some love made food fresh oysters and a good laugh!
Best Shrimp and Oysters I've ever had. Super friendly staff.
A little pricey but the crab claws and crawfish tails were great
Grilled Oysters Amazing, Fried Blue Crab great, but crawfish so so, no potatoes, sausage, or corn.
If you do one thing while in New Orleans you must go sit at the oyster bar and have fresh crawfish and oysters and enjoy the great people.
Crawfish beignet? Yes please! Delicious
Tastes good but very small portions and it took a while for our food to be cooked.
Amazing fried oysters!
The shrimp and jalapeño grits were absolutely delicious.
Pretty darn good! Try the shrimp tacos and crawfish pie. Staff are super friendly and helpful!
Some of the freshest oysters I've ever had! A must in my book.
Great Oysters, and the shucker was a great host. I would go back to meet him again.
Amazing food!!
Got the Jambalaya, Shrimp Creole, Broiled Oysters and Crawfish tails! Soooo goood!
Great food friendly environment, charbroilded oysters were amazing!!!!
Great no fuss market stall food. The crawfish boil was delicious!
Go early if you want crawfish, tasty fried seafood goodness
Excellent food and reasonable prices. Be sure to get the crawfish pie!
Just got the shrimp but damn I wish I got more. Line was really long though but that's to be expected when a place gets popular.
Great Oysters!

Great place to eat oysters are shucked right in front of your eyes
My oyster shucker was one bad oyster shucker! Very nice and delicious.

Good food and good service! Drinks are expensive , but that is typical here.
The soft shell crab 🦀 is a bit pricy but so good! …
Loved the Char-grilled oysters
Go on the weekend and ask for Steffen, the bad mutha shuka. Tip him well. Funny guy.
This place stays with a line. The price is ok but you can find better deals 5 mins north
The people here were great they make you feel good to be here. I love it here.
Nice place in the market, little pricey. Good fresh food.
Amazing service, great food. This is New Orleans cuisine.

Everything
Absolutely best oysters I've ever had! Service and staff was absolutely fantastic! Wont let me add my photos unfortunately...
The food is delicious. But the process is a disaster. The checkout was still quick, but the guy at the oyster bar was hopelessly overloaded and got no support. Over an hour for a dozen is not OK.
Nice food, nice staff.

Nice food, nice staff. Everything is a bit touristy at the Frenchmarket, but it was really delicious here. The food was tasty and the price was okay. Everything came quickly and we were given nice advice. All in all, the area is a bit run down, but has charm.
