A great store for art materials, but not so much crafting, e.g. knitting. It's great to have a locally run art store to support, and the staff seem sufficiently proficient at helping you get the right materials for your projects. Decently priced items, too!

Nice store to pick up art materials. You'll find most of the things you need. Employees were nice and helpful. They have roadside parking. Also a small lift for wheelchair etc. Neatly arranged. They also have custom framing.

I'm an artist so I'm biased! My favorite thing about Blick are the large portfolio carriers. Which i customize with my comic art. Great prices too. That's the cost of a portrait kit in the ajacent photos

This is by far the most extensive and "complete" art store in the D.C., Maryland and Virginia metro area. It was the only place that had a 72 Copic Sketch set (and they had all sets) in stock. We drove the near hour (instant gratification, of course) and were speechless when we walked in. I do not like shopping for pretty much anything, but I was like a little girl full of joy, wonder, imagination, giddiness and overwhelmed by all the treasures in there. My boyfriend, who loves shopping, got to the point that he was feeling a bit embarrassed by us. We spent about twice as much we had intended to. Not sure how some of those items ended up in our pile? ... also, the staff was incredibly helpful and super friendly. It is not for "just experts" or "real artists"... it's got something for everyone... and then some more!

Fantastic art store. I just walked out maybe 5 minutes ago and had to leave a review. The customer service is amazing a 10. The selection is a 10. The overall atmosphere is a 10. I'm backing packing the east coast for the holidays and came in to buy a pencil bag that I'll use a toiletry bag (forgot to bring one) and I not only found that but ended up buying a sketching starter kit. Being here reminded me of when I used to enjoy art. I was inspired by this spot and cant wait to start sketching again. Thanks!

Found a really good quality big art portfolio that had all the features I wanted at a very good price. They have a wonderful selection of art and craft supplies. Staff was friendly and quick to help. Just a cool and happy vibe from the workers and customers.

Great selection! They definitely have a different selection than the relatively close by PlaZa Art location. Staff were friendly and available but not at all intrusive. I think their selection of pencils and watercolors is a little better, but I had hoped to see more of their budget Blick papers.

Running an errand for work, stopped in on my way to an office supply store. Surprise, they had the paper I was looking for! Staff was super helpful and very nice. I was just looking for print paper, it worked fine for our project. The store is small and fully stocked without feeling crowded. I overheard a conversation with another customer and staff member, I'm no artist so it was beyond me, but the staff member seemed to satisfactorily answer the patrons questions.

I visited for the first time today, and I was happy with my experience. I was greeted warmly when I entered, and the clerk was super friendly. She helped me find everything I needed to round out my supplies. I usually order online, but I will definitely be back to this store simply because everyone there was so knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly.

Well stocked art supply store with (generally) helpful staff. However, there is very confusing sale signage displayed throughout the store. As an example, I was swayed to buy watercolor paper because the sign next to it said "Spend $80 get 20% off". I did not notice the fine print that stipulates that you must buy $80 of that product based on the regular price to get the discount. Probably because that part is printed in teeny tiny type. When I questioned the clerk at the counter about why I didn't get the discount, he responded in an extremely frustrated tone that he had already explained this to me when I was in last week (my last visit was actually six weeks ago) and then spit out a long diatribe about how their pricing worked, directed me to the website, and also to a big sign in the store where these policies are explained at great length. I think he is sick of explaining this nonsense not just to me, but to EVERYONE who is trying to get the discounts that are misleadingly posted next to many items in the store. Still, I did not appreciate being lectured to like a misbehaving child when I was spending $100. And honestly- who has time to understand the intricacies of their pricing policies. We all just focus on the big discount number right? I won't be shopping here in the future. I'd rather buy online and skip the attitude.

People are very nice. They had a good variety of supplies. Unfortunately you have to use a stair lift if you use a wheelchair and that can get a little sketchy, especially if you’re traveling on your own and the door doesn’t shut correctly. Luckily, the staff came to help. But it’d be better if I didn’t have to rely on them to get in.

As physical stores go, this is one of the best. They even match what you would pay if you ordered from their website. This location is a bit smaller than some others I've been to, and it doesn't feel as spacious, but they still have a large selection of art materials.

If only I could give this place more than 5 stars. If you look up customer service in the dictionary, you will find this place listed - everyone was outstanding, friendly, and eager to help. You don't often find service like this, and I came in less than a half hour before they closed when most other places have already slammed the door in your face. I came in for an item that was only a few dollars and Google directed me to this place after going to other more well known places. From my call to confirm that they had the item to the actual purchase, the experience was overwhelmingly a joy and I was able to complete my project.

A very wide selection of different art supplies. I recently went here during my visit to D.C. I needed to get a present for a friend's daughter. The staff was very helpful and pointed me in the right direction. The wide selection of different products made it simple to find what I was looking for.

It's refreshing to find a well-stocked art supply store in the middle of the city. Docking one star for their poor price-matching policy. They refused to match their own web prices, insisting they could only match the price "with shipping." Useless policy for small items, will likely only return if I need something that day.

I haven't been since they remodeled this location but I have loved it so far. The staff is nice and friendly and they ask if you need help multiple times. They are often roaming the store to make sure everything is in order. That being said, I haven't came across a dried up marker yet in this store. Oh, and their prices are pretty cheap.

It's fantastic to have such a great art supply store right in the middle of downtown DC. Utrecht has a national reputation for high-quality supplies for all levels of artist - and this store certainly lives up to that expectation. The paints, canvases, drawing pads/materials are all very well priced - and the convenience of the location definitely can't be beat. The staff are extremely helpful, especially when you're looking for something a little obscure, or need recommendations for a specific type of product. Great for browsing art supplies, there is always something to find, even if you aren't much of an artist. You can always pick out a new weird pen from the fantastic variety. Traditional artists will find all their supplies and mediums. There is usually a clearance section in the back for bargain hunters.

This is a great store all around. Helpful employees, wide variety of products and styles of art to explore. They even have these awesome little blow up pugs if you live in a building that doesnt allow pets. I named mine Dougie.

I got lost a lot because there is so much to see and I get distracted by the ideas that flowed through my head as I walked around. And the music they play is always awesome. I've been tie-dying since before it was quarantine cool. My favorite Jacquard Procion MX dye can be difficult to find, and more so now that everyone and their quarantine kid is doing it. But Blick carries the full color line. I ordered online and was very pleased with all services. Thanks, Blick!

Utrecht DC shipped me a much needed supply of markers for my business when the other sources were out and back ordered for months. I got them the next day. Thanks Utrecht DC! I upgrade my review from one star yesterday to 5 stars today. I got them overnight. Now when I am sketching caricatures on Saturday I won't have to use the old ones which are low on ink, I do a lot of party caricature sketching and Utrecht markers are the best, what I have searching for since I started.

Blick's aka Utrecht and (another unrelated business near 21st NW) Plaza Arts are my two favorite spots for art supplies. The staff at both places share their knowledge with everyone, from the non-artist to internationally known folks across a diverse set of artistic fields. Business folks, students, crafters looking for balsa wood, families, drafters, multimedia hacks, graffitti and comic artists...they can because they actually do those things. Check out their bulletin boards of local artists business cards. They are up Metro Center at 13th and Eye nw. Get the free disount card. And if it ain't in the store check out the online site.
