Second edit: Giving them 5 stars back. I realized I had more good meals here than I had bad ones, thought of giving them another chance last Friday when I was around the area. Also give them props for acknowledging my review. This time they did taste as good as I remember so I felt compelled to come back and give them what they deserve. The 2 guys were very nice and friendly also. I had barbacoa, campechano and chicharrón prensado. The chicharron doesn’t taste or look anything like I’ve seen before but still good. Will keep coming back! EDIT: They have gone downhill… if you can see my pictures side by side, the black tray is from maybe a year ago and the red one is from yesterday. The meat was barely cooked and didn’t have much flavor. I have a stomach ache right now and I guess that’s why, since it was pork. The salsas were at least still pretty good. I really used to like them but not anymore, won’t be back. I’ll go to El chilango or Sabroso for tacos. I’ve come here for 2 weekends in a row. Great, very good tacos, quick and cheap just like an authentic taco should be. I’ve tried pastor barbacoa and carnitas and they are all awesome. I’m from Mexico City and I miss the good greatly, these tacos do the job. Taste almost like home. The salsas are also super good which usually make or break a good taco. It’s a bit far from me but I’m always willing to drive for good food.

This "supermercado" is a long time anchor tenant in the middle of the Cherokee shopping district. I went there shopping for some commercial quality cooking pots, which they have a great selection of. I was envious of all the copper and stainless steel pots. Like 80 quarts & beyond! Heavy gauge.

I think this is the best street taco place on Cherokee st. Everything is good, not to say other places aren't good, I just prefer El Torito. Chorizo, al pastor, and Barbacoa are my goto

We love this store, we hardly get to visit Cherokee street, but wen we do, we have to eat the authentic Mexican style tacos and shop at El torito! I recommend visiting "little Mexico" aka Cherokee street soon. The summer days down there are very fun w alot of different diversity of ppl!

Authentic Mexican market on Cherokee Street. Whenever I'm making Mexican dishes that require quality ingredients, I make sure to stop by this market. They have an amazing selection of produce, meats, spices, etc. This is also the best place for large tortillas, if you plan on making burritos. The prices are more than fair, and the staff is both welcoming and helpful. If you're planning on making any kind of Mexican cuisine, be sure to get your supplies here.

I have never been disappointed eating here. Great selection of food and prices are excellent. I was happy to find that they have milder things for my friends who don't like a lot of spice. I love hot stuff and they have that too! Though every time I've been in the place has had few customers (sometimes only me), I don't mind that. At times our waiter has spoken little English but there were no communication problems (I speak a tiny bit of Spanish). They treat you well and do a fabulous job. The food is always fresh and delicious. If you want to be picky about the look of the place, ok. The tables, though not the fanciest, are clean and look new. The entire place looks very clean. I could go on about it but I'd rather just say it's fantastic and I will continue to eat here for many years to come! If you go, after your meal go browse the attached market. It's an added treat!

The atmosphere and decorations are awesome and the tacos are pretty excellent. Our server didn't speak very good English, so be prepared to be flexible in how you order and pay the bill. They were out of strawberry margarita mix and our server generously gave me an extra large regular margarita. It was a start to a glorious New Year's Eve on Cherokee Street.

I've eaten here quite a few times. Since it's a Cherokee restaurant, you know it's going to be a bit better than most. Is a good place to have in our rotation. Pretty standard fare, and the attached grocery store is a plus.

Products seemed rather old. The fluorescent lights in the ceiling were flickering, the freezers had built-up frost in them, and folks were walking around unmasked despite a mandate at the city level requiring masks in retail spaces. I decided against purchasing anything.

Very good authentic tacos only cooked outside on Saturday and Sundays. They have all the fixings to go with such as cilantro, cucumbers, onions, and limes. The red salsa is not to spicy. A must try if you're visiting Cherokee St. on a weekend.

Tried this place twice now. Tacos are good. This time I had the enchiladas which were great. I had the spicy sauce with them, and yummo! According to my mexican friend the mole is the best! So I'll have to come back to try that!

It's better than Chili's. It's not better than some of it's Cherokee Street neighbors. Not bad, but a little meh. Wait stuff was quick and kind and the food was good with a lot of options (even for vegetarians), but there are better spots on Cherokee.

This used to be my family´s favorite restaurant to go to. Recently we noticed that the food here is expired (mainly the meat) and WAS SERVED TO US ANYWAY. This happened twice and to a friend of ours (who by the way, never returned after that incident). Please use fresh ingredients because that is a health hazard. Too bad we won’t enjoy el molcajete here ever again. POR FAVOR HAGAN ALGO. Not only that, but the waitress was so lazy and in a bad mood. Service was not good at all. We still go here to buy snacks, pan dulce and more but we are never returning to the restaurant.

Hands down best al pastor I've had in STL. The outdoor grille serves them up hot and fresh and you add your own toppings. I love loading up on fresh sliced radishes and salsa verde, cilantro and lime. It's the spice of life to eat here and people watch on Cherokee St.
