Helpful and nice staff! So many wonderful art supplies and even a small section of beads. And the beads they offer are pretty outstanding bigger than pony sized (2/0) in rad colors. Nice findings too. Many wonderful things for gifts lots of blue q too. Can't wait to go back!

LOVE THIS STORE!! Finally a real artist supply store in my regular stompings! (They've been here since 85 i don't know how i missed them for so many years!) My 13yo son is obsessed with art and always gets mad when Michael's is suggested cuz "those aren't Art Supplies™️". I've been to A&C a couple times to get him gifts but today I actually got him to go with me with the promise that this isn't Michael's. He's IN LOVE now! They have everything his little heart desires for sketching Manga and creating story boards. We got him a bunch of really cool alcohol markers for an amazing price! Also, tons of heavy-duty sketch pads, pencils, blenders, etc. And the price wasn't that much higher than Michael's, but the quality is far better. We also spent a ton of time looking at all the little miniatures and cooing over the kitchy gifts. The clerks are all very knowledgeable about products and have a way of letting you know they're available to help without being stalky about it. Really nice people and great vibes. And it's employee owned! Power to the people 😊 Like I said... obsessed 💚 if you're looking for real art supplies for serious artists... Look no further than artist and craftsman!

One of the best art supply stores I have ever seen!! The prices are incredible and they support SO MANY mediums. They supply top quality brands in such a wide range of products. They also have amazing sales, which is usually when I stock up on supplies. I enjoy shopping here sometimes to even gather inspiration. Staff is always incredibly friendly and helpful, you can tell they love working here. Tons of cute gift items too for artists of all ages.

A&C is the best place to get art supplies. It's employee owned! I've been going for four years! At one point I was on a first-name basis with some of the employees. They're super helpful if you ask, but also give you your space. Theyve got a great selection of supplies for paper arts, fiber arts, airbrush, leather, beading, drawing, painting, markers, kids, sculpture, even stuff like caddies, bottles, desks and lights. The front 1/3 of the store is mostly notebooks and fun tchochkes and gifts, like pins, magnets, and all sorts of other stuff. It's my first stop whenever I need supplies.

For a national chain, A&C does very well. Every store is funkily-designed, there is a good selection of fine-art paints, brushes, and drawing supplies, and the staff is pleasant and helpful. Free WiFi too!

I dont feel comfortable here. Its strange. I don't have that issue at any other art supply store. Maybe it's just me? I feel like they think I am going to steal something the way they seem to peek at me around corners. Must be because I take a long time to shop. I look at everything. Who knows. I will probably go there again for Prismacolor pencils. They have every color open stock.

How have I not known about this 5-year-old retail gem until now?? I was like a kid in a candy shop, willing to squander my life savings on the gorgeous Japanese and South Asian handmade paper they have in stock. So much more to discover on future trips, likely to be frequent, enough to turn me into the "Norm!" of this place. This is a fantastic art supply store. It's a bit off the beaten path in southeast PDX, but once you find it, you won't go to another shop! They've got everything you need - even stonecarving tools! They have everything! I couldn't believe how much they have packed in a small small, yet it didn't feel overwhelming and everything was nearly organized. We needed a puzzle for a rainy spring break day, they had several. The staff/owners (it's employee owned) were friendly. If you need something to keep kids busy, they've got games, craft idea books and small toys. You can find crayola markers or imported water colors, all kinds of journals, sketch books and paper - whatever you need for kid crafts or works of art.

I've spent a fortune in this place. They're begrudgingly friendly, and will always help if you ask. Typically have good product knowledge. Whoever stocks their painting supplies should consider that support frames for large canvases are a critical component to large canvasses.

Love coming here to browse. The prices are decent, with all ranges and lots of sale prices. They some how manage to fit a bit of everything in this space and the staff are super helpful. The only reason I give them a 4 star is because it always feels like the staff views every customer as a suspicious shoplifter. Never not felt hella watched in here.

This shop is beautifully curated and has lovely staff! While I can sometimes find the layout a little overwhelming, I also usually find something I wasn't looking for that I enjoy and end up buying. They've always got a good sale going, and I love helping support a local business! I highly recommend wandering in when you have a free hour and see if there's a fun hobby you can start! This place is great. Cute little shop with all kinds of different stuff. You can just walk around and check sales for anything you might be interested in trying that you haven't ever tried before. The location is conveniently right off Powell. Parking is tight but it's never been so tight that I've not been able to find somewhere to park.

Amazing variety of just about any kind of art supply you could possibly want. Fantastic prices--most discounted by at least 50%, and many up to 75%. The staff area friendly and knowledgeable about the supplies they carry, with useful info about uses, and ideas for inspiration to get your creative juices flowing. To say that we love it there is an understatement! The only thing I would love to see them add is letterpress ink for my husband. He does his printing the old fashioned way, and none of the large variety of inks or paints they carry are suitable for the vintage/antique metal presses and fonts that he owns. Still 'n' all, it's a great art supply store, and we heartily recommend it to any creative people out there.

Includes pro quality paints, brushes, printing ink and hardware, as well as student quality and plenty of artsy stuff for children. A very large selection of journals, watercolor papers, etc, and a lot of absolutely gorgeous Japanese-style decorated paper available by the sheet. Noodler's inks if you're into fountain pens and calligraphy. Beads and supplies. Leather and supplies. Basically, if they don't carry it, you'll have to order online whatever it is that you're looking for. The staff is knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. A highly recommended place to look for art supplies-and at a discount, too!

Tons of paint! Huge selection of canvases of all kinds. The place to go to gift shop for the artist in your life. Lots of cool stuff. My only request and suggestion is please expand the wax stamp selection. I love that you have the whole alfabet in stock, but if your stamps and wax selection were more diverse I would def come to your store to buy it instead of ordering it online. Plan on spending some time here; theres lots to see!

I had to drive for this, and it was wholly worth it. Best place I've found for fountain pen stuff in town, and they have a lot of Noodlers pens and ink! They definitely lean heavy towards calligraphy pens but they have normal fountain stuff as well. I don't do painting but they had a huge selection of all different kinds of stuff, including not only paints and equipment, but lots of stuff to paint on as well - canvases and art notebooks galore.

This is the best art store chain, hands down. This location has very, very tall shelves. I asked if I could climb them and was told that you cannot. It's really difficult to not climb them. They're just so...tall. Anyways, great selection on paints, super great deals on defective brushes (minor misprints or slightly bad hairs), and a plethora of stuff you didn't know you wanted. I always intend to go in here for just a few things and end up spending well over my budget. I've got to say they are blowing away the competition in terms of options for supplies and prices.

This store is the greatest artist supply store in the city. Montana, the manager is a definite lightworker and loves her shop. One woman works for the bad guys as a seed. It's quite easy to spot this dark haired sorceress, so I just recommend staying away from her. Otherwise, the rest of the girls are amazing and know an insurmountable bit of knowledge about their products and art.

This is hands down my favorite art store in Portland. It's tucked away, just off of Powell and was convenient for me when I am visiting the Fred Meyer main office. The selection is insane and the prices are competitive, making it a much better option than Blick Art supplies. The staff is extremely sweet and knowledgeable, and I always seem to walk out with more than I planned on buying. Every time, lol! I've suggested they look into setting up a booth for Rose City ComicCon, so more local artists know that they have valuable options and the store would greatly benefit by the increase in customers. This shop has everything you could want in an art or craft store - and they are willing to order anything they don't have! What a crafter’s or artist wonderland. The ladies running the shop also had wonderful, warm attitudes, made sure I was finding what I wanted, and one of them hurried off her ladder to help me select some inexpensive paint brushes for my project. Off the beaten path a little in SE and I was so happy to have found it. They even let you use their clean little lav. :) it’s not often people let you do that in those parts. Anyway. I didn't know this place exist until one fateful midnight I was in desperate search for large chipboard and cardboard sheets. Ironically it was very close to where I work, so I got there the day after. Paint, brushes, paper, they have almost everything arts and crafts related. The staff that helped me was very helpful and patient and she was only by herself. The only complain I had was the cardboard sheet they have there are slightly curved, but it can be fixed with just letting it sit on a flat surface for a couple days.

This employee-owned store has been in Portland for about a year as of early 2018; it is one of two in Portland, with some 30 across the country. The firm originated in and is headquartered in Maine. The company also sells its products on-line, with free or flat-rate shipping. Everything I viewed in the catalogue beforehand was present in the physical location. The web page allows for a wish list, to which one can connect in-store via their guest wi-fi, a useful convenience for me. Employee ownership is of value to me. The store initially seems small because it is densely packed, and this can feel overwhelming; the store prioritizes product diversity and quality over shopping ambience. The array of products available in this amazing place is impressive; significantly, products are first-rate, not merely cheap or of low quality. Nearly anything you might need for typical art work is available here, from from painting to sculpting to printmaking. Some product types that are particularly well represented include all manner of paints and drawing pads, but there are others too. Some unexpected products include things like bookbinding supplies and limited architectural model-building needs. Some other firms in Portland offer a wider array of specialty art papers, although you should check here first if you haven’t yet been in. They even have 4 foot by 8 foot foam core board. When you browse, don’t forget to look very high up and way down by the floor! While the product selection is naturally of prime importance, this store would not succeed without its high quality staff support. The two women who helped me on a Monday afternoon in late January were friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient, and readily went out of their way to help me, as well as the many other customers who were there during the same hour as I was. As a person with limited mobility, their uncommon assistance was greatly appreciated. Remember, the store is employee owned and operated. Through February there is a significant sale, with discounts up to 40% on a very wide selection of products. Meaningful to me. I have no connection to the company nor any staff member, and am not being paid for this review. In fact, I just discovered the store via the web this morning, a couple of hours before my first visit. My assessment is sincere and uninfluenced by anyone. I rarely write reviews. It has a large selection of art supplies. It also has craft supplies, frames and toys. I bought a bamboo brush and a bamboo calligraphy pen that i haven't seen in any other art stores in Portland. It's located on a quiet side street off of Powell.

If you use it in any medium of art- it's likely they will have it. It's a very stimulating environment with well stocked aisles so keeping little humans close is wise. The staff is made up of rockstar art afficionados so you are in great hands there. Discovered this gem in Dec, 2017. On my visit home for the holidays, my mother fell gravely ill, in between visits to the hospital a friend introduced me to this place. This place kept me sane and distracted for the few months I stayed in town while my mother recovered. I discovered colorless pencils here and bought a hummingbird to paint.
