i can easily say it was the most unique store i've ever been too. it i can justify spending $250+ for the taxidermy of a chipmunk i'd do it. maybe at some point in the future! the employees here are beyond friendly however. i'm sure most people coming in are just browsing and not coming it with intentions of buying something, but there's definitely a large selection of cool stuff!

What a fascinating store! I highly recommend to at least stop by if you are in the area. If you like science and evolution this is a store for you. It could be a store or an amusement experience. I would give 10 stars if I could.

The store itself has so many unique items to view and purchase.There were so many specimens that were attainable for an average person like myself. I had to fly back home that day and they were able to tell me what can go in a carry on,etc. i wish i could have stayed longer.

If you're looking for the perfect set of skulls carved from vintage billiard balls, a 5' long snake skeleton, pieces from that special meteorite, a mounted butterfly collection, skeletons for your family closet, slices of colorful minerals, or geological decor . . . this is the place. It's pricey, a little snooty, somewhat aloof staff, and a whole lot of fun. When our kids were younger, and Evolution was in Soho, we couldn't keep them away from the place. After it moved, we lost track. Just happened to walk by Saturday. The store has improved. It's bigger than it used to be and seems more varied. The oddities are great! It's very entertaining. Prices are a bit high, but I think that's what you'd expect for the unique

Always interesting to just walk in and browse at all their taxidermy collection! The butterfly they have are just amazing. This store is special in the sense that city people get to reconnect with the nature through taxidermy art. Every piece of specimen is very well done with live-looking and postures. It’s truly an icon for Manhattan. Almost like a mini- Natural History Museum. Give it a visit while in town !

The people who run this store are so nice! They have a genuine paleontologist on staff! On request, he went into cases to take out different fossils and explain their history. Like a tiny museum! The stuff in here was wild and so fun to pick through. I now happily have a fossil of a Brittle star on display in my home.

A spider eclectic store that sells gem stone, fossils, animal bones and skins, to actually human bones. Your out of town friends will be super impressed if u take them here as a stop in your nyc sight seeing. A must see store with lots of instagram photo opportunity.

This store was fascinating to say the least. I absolutely LOVED it! The products are very unique and they are reasonably priced to boot! I bought a strawberry conch shell and an urchin in perfect condition for less then 5 dollars. Bones, bugs, shells, minerals, and more: it was certainly my cup of tea!

Just happened to pass it per chance. And ended up killing about an hour in the store looking at all their items. I'm not sure how everything is obtained but i know one of the store clerks made user to point out that some items are molds from cast and not actual bones. There is something at every price point from $6-36,000

Interesting store with a nice collection of 'this and that' you may not find elsewhere and great gifts - who would not like a bat? I don't feel they deserve the $$$ they get - it is not overly expensive (sure one could get better prices online but this is Broadway and that costs).

In love with this store. So many cook and cute things. Price ranges from cheap $5 items all the way you up in the thousands haha. I will say I wish they had better wrapping options. I bought a couple resin items and they got scratched up in the bag rubbing against each other. So maybe some way paper? But still overall will deff be going here on my next visit

That place is a must go and is a museum in itself. All kinds of fossils, gems, dead animals (not as creepy as it sounds) and exclusive merchandise that you can think of from expensive to affordable. Anyone can find a cool gift in there.

Visited The Evolution Store while I was on a vacation from Los Angeles and fell in love immediately. Totally reminded me of The Necromance Store that use to be on Melrose. Anyways, Mal was working when I went in and she was so helpful and friendly! She helped me pick out a very comfy sweatshirt and some awesome teeth. There are some places where it feels as if browsing if frown upon. This isn't one of those places. I happened to walk in at the same time as a mother and her young son. We were all browsing though the young boy was ready for his mom to purchase a taxidermied monkey. I've walked passed this store so many times and occasionally stopping to view the windows. I am satisfied having finally stopped in. The items are unique, interesting, and reasonably priced--according to that mom though, excluding the taxidermied monkey. The staff is chill, helpful, and pleasant. Purchased items are mindfully wrapped so that delicate items travel well. Stop by. Browse. Buy. Spark your imagination.

One of my FAVORITE stores in all of NYC. It's one of those places you just have to stop and look around in even if you're not going to buy anything (but please buy something!) because they have such amazing artifacts as well as just fun stuff. It's like a mini museum without paying admission. I've actually noticed their prices are a bit lower for similar or the exact same items sold elsewhere, so I really appreciate that and love supporting them when I can!

I always love visiting this place when I’m in New York. It reminds me of my father’s study back before the manor burned down. But a nice assortment of curios and trinkets and my only regret was I think I overwhelmed the staff, who were very young, thanks to my unflinching eye contact and bombastic voice. Sorry guys. Love this store. Located in a fun area and filled with bizarre and interesting goodies. I always bring back souvenirs for my nephews from this store because they think it’s so cool! Artwork, bones, skulls, taxidermy, bugs, etc— all meticulously arranged or made into creative art pieces in their own right. Staff is wonderful, too.

Fantastic stuff at great prices. Due to Covid, they're probably trying to limit the number of people inside the store, and how long they stay. Thus I didn't mind calling from outside, so that they'd open for me and take my first name. But then why was there this woman, chatting nonstop with the sales boys, with no interest whatsoever to purchase anything - and the guys were delighted with the chitchat?! Hey buddies, if this job is boring, there are plenty of people who want it! Management should look for more responsible personnel.

A truly unique store selling fossils, minerals, skeletons, rocks, gems, and other geology/paleontology related artifacts. I've never bought anything here, but regularly stop by to check out the interesting collection of items - it's almost like a museum with all the boring parts removed. It's definitely worth stopping for a browse or pick up a gift you can't find anywhere else.

Fantastic store carrying amazing things. Everything is laid out on the tables or in display cases clearly, so that it can be handled and examined. They have a large assortment of beautiful and unique natural items atan assortment of prices. (Most seem reasonable, through some indeed expensive.) The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I spent over an hour looking around, and never felt any pressure. I could easily have spent more time.

A bit of a natural history nerds paradise. This store is well over priced for the taxidermy items they sell, but it still seems to attract the customers with it's weird and wonderful items anyway. Upstairs you'll find larger items, which if just visiting, probably won't fit on the plane ride home, but are great to marvel at anyway. If you want to take away a souvenir they have smaller items at better prices, like beautiful framed butterflies, small animal skulls etc. Everything in here is done with love and respect for the animals in which they're selling, the taxidermy is made to showcase the animals beauty rather than freak people out. Worth a visit!

This is a fantastically interesting place. Although I can't imagine buying any of their larger products (snake skeletons, model human skeleton, etc.) they do have a lot of happy knick-knacks available that make fine souvenirs. Overall, it's a lovely store to visit.

If you are in the NYU area, stop in and look around at this shop. They have tons of interesting fossils, skeletons and general oddities. The prices actually seemed reasonable for the type of items they are selling. It is almost a museum where you can buy the artifacts that are on display.

What terrific store! It's like a little natural history museum where everything's for sale. Fossils, asteroids, taxidermy, dinosaur bones, rocks (They're minerals, Marie), etc. Such an unusual store filled with atypical, creepy things like a dissected rabbit encased in resin, and cool science souvenirs. A little expensive. Wish the store was bigger and I hope they stay around for a long time. There needs to be more shops like this.

Interesting place, if you're a science and/or archeology fan, though I think it's more for souvenirs than for "serious" science. Not everything is just fossils and bones though, they also sell some nice mineral sample collections, for those who would like to own a variety of different minerals. I would say the collections are the kind for beginners who appreciate minerals from a scientific perspective, not for beauty or decorative attributes, though they may have those too. The samples are large enough that you don't need a magnifying glass to examine them, about 2 cm long, give or take.

If you are one of those people that likes to collect bones, skeleton models, eyeballs, corpses, animal furs, stuffed life size animals, etc...well, this is your place. It was just insane walking in there to see what the store was all about. I thought it was some sort of Gothic clothing store at first. It's always a fun stop to go by when in the area.

This store consistently offers the strangest items at different price points. From rocks and minerals to shells and preserved octopus, there are tons of weird things here. It seems like the footprint of the store is small, but there is a lot to see. There's skeletons and taxidermied animals too, which are interesting and super creepy.

Interesting shop, makes it easy to collect fossils when you’re nowhere near Montana, Nevada, the Carolinas, or Arizona to get down in the sediment and dig yourself. I walked away with a pretty good size Meg tooth for a cheap price. The stock changes based on what is brought in by the store, so it’s never the same materials. The store staff also answered a lot of my questions as to how the operation is ran and where all of the stuff comes from, pretty fascinating arrangements they make.

From reading reviews as well as gauging the reactions of the customers in the store, this is among the more polarizing shops around. Anyone who has done any kind of research or read a tourist guidebook is aware they sell human skeletons (completely legal and displayed tastefully) as well as taxidermied animals and butterflies. So if that kind of thing isn't your cup of tea, why go? From my perspective this was utterly fascinating and unique. I view nature as something interesting and worthy of study and admiration. All their specimens are expertly worked on and displayed. Prices may seem high, but the amount of skill needed to fully disassemble a lobster (for example) as a natural history museum quality piece is really difficult to come by. For those not interested in the museum quality pieces, there are plenty of fossils, geological specimens, books, and educational pieces. Gloriously strange objects like cross-sections of mineral encrusted water pipes, Fordite, meteorites, and the like. Some more basic 'museum giftshop' pieces as well, but it helps ensure people without hundreds of dollars to spend can find something of interest as well. Absolutely amazing!

If you are looking for an unusual experience, this is the place. It is a science based store, ergo the title in the heart of the Village. They carry butterflies, moths, beetles, all sorts of skeletons, posters of flora, fauna and insects. There are taxidermy alligator heads, hides, birds, etc. You never know what you might find.

This place is so unique and interesting, it's worth venturing to the area just to see it. I've never seen anything like it in NYC and it's surprising that you can find lion heads, stuffed creatures, etc. in the heart of such a liberal city. It's so different that it's awesome. You're likely to walk into the shop with your jaw wide open and when you leave, you are going to say "wow". There are some little cheaper trinkets you can buy there as well as tens of thousands of dollar stuffed animals. There's enough things in each nook and cranny of the shop to spend an hour or more browsing. Marvel at the wonders.

This is a lovely trinket store down in the village. My partner had been following them on Instagram for years and it was a bucket list item on our trip to New York. He was fully satisfied and even purchased a beaver skull which is in our bedroom. If the previous sentence makes you chuckle rather than squirm: this is the place for you!

I was very surprised by the quality of the stuff found here, and the prices seem way better than other places that sell similar fossils. Highly recommend coming here if you are interested in bones, shells, fossils, or taxidermy of insects.

Going down hill. I love the store and have for years but on my most recent visit the store was not nearly as great as it once was. It no longer has as many skulls and the ones it does have a lot are replicas or relatively common animals. They didn't have a leopard or lion skull for example. Also Alex is gone, I guess he left or maybe was fired, but he was great. It still has a lot of cool insects, a few common cheap things, and a nice interior decoration, but its loosing its luster. I HOPE THEY CAN GET IT BACK.

A little overpriced but definitely better than Obscura. You can find much better prices in a less trendy store, certainly. But it's well decorated and managed, the people are relatively friendly & knowledgable. The store is a little cramped and can be not worth going into when there's a lot of people there, though.

A natural history museum where the displays are for sale. Downstairs has small items that range for smaller skulls to metalwork jewelry and more. Upstairs seems to have more of the bigger mounts and skeletons. Worth a stop whether you're looking for something unusual to add to your collection or don't want to wind your way through a big museum.

Evolution should definitely be in your list of places to drag friends visiting from out of town. They have all sorts of odd natural ephemera, from skeletons (human & animal) to rocks and crystals. A nine on a scale of ten for Interesting, and luckily maybe a two on the scale for Gross.
