Reviews of Southern Candymakers - Main Store
This is charming candy store offering excellent pralines and all kinds of other treats! The pralines they make feature whole pecans, not pieces - as many of their competitors do. Pieces are fine - but there’s just something very appealing about the way Southern Candymakers is doing it. The store is neat and clean, and they are well stocked for chocolate lovers as well. Can’t wait to go back!
Near the heart of the French Quarter, this confectioner has been in business for decades. Their good reputation is well earned.
Ordered the basic praline, a little pricey but the high quality justified it. Made on site, they were fresh and stayed fresh for a couple of weeks.
This place is amazing for anybody's sweet tooth. We got pralines, they were amazing. Very friendly cashier, she'd answer any question we had. Highly recommended place.
The staff was soooooo friendly. The candy that we got was sooooo delicious. My son cant have sugar for health reasons and they offer sugar free candy. Needless to say he loved this place. We ended up making another visit to this awesome spot before we left. This will be a must stop on our next visit.
All kinds of sweet things await your sugar tooth here, including salt water taffy, praline pecans, and sugar n’spice walnuts. Chocolates galore and other nifty gifties, including hot sauce, gumbo seasoning, and jambalaya seasoning. Affectionate service and prime location.
With so many shops selling Pralines, it's hard to stand out. This shop offered varieties I didn't know about previously. The Pumpkin Spice was delicious. Tastes just like pumpkin pie. Along with all the other flavors and sweet and unique treats, your bound to find something you like. The staff was great as well. Patient, friendly, and willing to share a little knowledge and info about their product.
I live out of town. My parents were coming to New Orleans for vacation. I wanted to surprise them with a little something in their hotel room. I called Southern Candymakers to place an order. The man I spoke with was so attentive and nice on the phone as he took my order. He also called me back after the delivery was made. This was by far one of the best customer service experiences I’ve ever had. I would suggest Southern Candymakers to anyone for placing orders to be delivered.
This place is so good! I wanted to try the infamous pralines while in Nola a month ago and we came here bc of the great reviews. Their products a little pricey but it’s worth it. We got a small batch of the pralines and a small variety box of chocolates to bring home and share w the family. Came out to $66.50. My family liked the Mississippi mud. Pralines were great, nuts were fresh and not stale. A month later and I still have a few pieces left and it’s still delicious. The tortues are yummy as well.
Very friendly staff! The place smelled amazing and there is a pretty big selection of things. I have a pecan allergy, and they were very quick to show me and let me sample some of the non-pecan items. Ended up getting some almond toffee that is perfect.
Don't order online! I used to visit this candy store when in New Orleans. Now I live too far away to enoy them as often as I used to. I ordered online this week. I always buy their regular southern pralines and have for over 15 years. The mail order came today delivered by Fed Ex (they required this type of delivery and exhorbitant cost I'm sure to keep them fresh - the cost of the delivery was almost as much as the pralines). I opened the box and what to my surprise - there were "SMALL pralines in sealed baggies". This was NOT what I was expecting knowing that in the past they would ship them hot off the assembly line, fresh out of the copper pot and ship them quickly as they do have a shelf life. OK...I expect to pay a high cost of shipping when they come hot off the press...but NOT when they arrive in a small sealed baggies. Just wasn't the same. Taste was OK...again...not like hot off the presses. You have now reduced yourselves to a praline no different than Aunt Sallie's in a bag!
So thankful that they give out samples to try the different flavors! Really helpful except that they all taste amazing! Can tell they are fresh and made right there. So yummy and a great gift to bring back home as a souvenir!
We have been coming to Southern Candy makers for years (since 1994). They have the best pralines in area. The other candies are great as well. We routinely place orders to be shipped to us and give these treats as gifts on special occasions. They are so helpful and there is always something cooking.
I placed my order, paid and left the store. I began walking down the street and bit into a praline. This was my first time having pralines and I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious it was. My friends and I immediately turned around and went back into the store to purchase more. The staff is warm and welcoming! They offer a variety of flavors which are baked fresh daily...I highly recommend!!
What a great shop! Passed by so many praline shops but this one caught our attention with the open doors allowing the smell of fresh candy to roll into the streets. Both times we went in they were making candy. (So we know it's all fresh!) The staff was super friendly and welcoming. I guess we lucked out because it was uncrowded both times. We took home regular, chewy, and sweet potato pralines as well as a piece of Rocky road I think it was called. The chewy was hands down my favorite. Only regret was not getting more and not getting any turtles.
What a fun shop with a team that really wants to satisfy you. They make all kinds of pralines and every one is delicious. How do I know? Because they encourage you to sample them. We fell in love with the Lemon, King Cake, Peanut Butter and Original Creamy. This is a must stop for praline lovers. They also have a lot of knick-nacks and candy they make such as assorted turtles.
Pralines are amazing. The Kings cake pralines are awesome, a must try! I love love rum and original pralines...The lemon, coconut and even the sweet potato pralines were amazing too!!
Great service and friendly staff. There are a lot of options available like fudge, pralines, taffy and other homemade candies.
Great experience. Haley was a True Heaven Maker by helping me havea great experience. She offered me the caramel pecan and I just fell in Love with it. I will be back.
I now know that pralines are bits of heaven!
I had been wandering the French Quarter when I came upon Southern Candymakers. I stepped inside and the smell was amazing. It got even better when I was offered a very generous sample of their mouthwatering pralines to try. While I looked at the other goodies, I ended up leaving with half a pound of pralines and then actually made it home untouched. I should have bought a whole pound!!
This store has a great selection of sweet treats and the service was friendly & helpful. The pralines were 5* but the chocolate was 3*. The dark chocolate, which should be a nice balance of bitter & sweet, tasted like pure sugar. Definitely worth a stop for the fresh melt in your mouth pralines but pass on the chocolate.
If you are from Georgia you know about Savannah Candy store for their pralines and bear claws… these are similar.
The tortunes are like bear claws in Ga.
The tortunes we got here were too gooey and the pralines did not have enough pecans.
I got 4 tortunes and 2 pralines $21 plus 4 peanut butter cups $36 total.
Pretty expensive sugar sweets .
I would recommend going to Cafe Du Monde get yourself a cold laite and beignets for $10.
Some of the best cookies and desserts I've ever had. Travels well in their boxes. A must-visit if you like sweets.
Nice shop as you can see them make candy, it's quaint and smells nice. Also friendly service and they promote samples liberaly. Pralines are good though sugar bombs. Expensive. Makes a nice gift for folks back home.
An overwhelming selection of delicious candies and fantastic personal service. A true gem of southern hospitality and great customer service I can't wait to visit again!
Best pralines hands down. Get the toffee ones. You will be glad you did!
The moment you walk in you are welcomed by the sweet and salty aroma of fresh makes sweets. They have such a wide selection of candies; from gummies and taffy to chocolates and pancake mix. Employees all welcomed us in and offered samples of their praline treats. 10/10 would definitely recommend.
Lovely people, stunning store, amazing candy. Can't say enough good things
Best pralines I've ever had! A little pricy but worth every penny.
Waited for the store to open before heading home. Everything is so delicious! Especially the pralines, turtles and toffee.
Wow! Just the smell of this place is amazing. The chocolates are fantastic and they have plenty of options. Prices are fair, staff is friendly, dress is casual.
From the 1st time that I tried Southern Candymakers on 334 Decatur, I was hooked! Best caramel, prilines, and chocolate. My favorite 2 items are the caramel & pecan apples along with the dark chocolate turtles. The best!!! Not only is the candy the best, but their customer service is awesome. Pablo & Frank went the extra mile to make sure that I was able to take home caramel apples on my way back. I will be returning again on my next trip back to New Orleans or order on line if I don't return soon! Thank you!!!!
Great assortment of sweets! There are 2 stores in the French Quarter. The original store is smaller and by the French market. The 2nd one is further away toward Canal St. The original Pralines are really good but make sure to try all the other flavours, especially the salted caramel ones.
Small shop that's kind of hidden if you're not paying attention. Glad it caught my eye. In my opinion has the best pralines I've had so far. Wife thinks so too, to the point where she now wants to order some to deliver to Chicago. She was skeptical of the place until she got to enjoy some of the treats and wishes she had gotten more.
Variety of caramels, turtles, toffee, and one praline. The shop was wonderfully clean, and you could see through the big display window when they make the fudge and the candies.
Just found out from a girlfriend in Virginia Beach but these are the only handmade caramels that she buys when she comes to the area. We do not disagree with that assessment.
#aclarifiedwoman
The Original Pralines are something to sing about! Yep, I said sing! And the Sweet Potato ones.... Mmmm..... I’m in love😍! The staff were all friendly and attentive, and not too bad looking either. 😉 This is definitely a place to add to your list! …
Tastes just like my mother's candy. Aside from the original, I like the coconut and rum flavored pralines. They are always freshly made while you wait and the staff is always warm and welcoming. The store also sells other yummy gourmet candies packaged up nice and pretty for gifting.
More than just pralines, but they do have some of the best of those as well! The guy working the evening we were there was very patient and friendly as we sampled several varieties and put together an assorted 1lb box.
Not only were the candies amazing, the staff there were so friendly and likable. They made us feel welcome. Those pralines...they gave us some fresh warm ones even though they had some in the tray...total mouthgasm. My whole face pulled in to wrap itself around that warm delicousness. We got traditional, peanut butter/dark chocolate. Soooo good. We will return next trip to New Orleans.
absolutely a must stop for PRALINES & FUDGE & all delicious chocolate goodies. they go above and beyond to help you. even offer free samples before purchasing pralines. spent $100 in this place because Laura's Candies customer service was absolutely terrible.
If you like chocolate you must go to this place.
Everything is made fresh and tastes heavenly.
It is a must to visit and make sure to buy something, you will not regret it!
Best pralines in New Orleans!
My trip back home wasn’t complete til I made a visit to Southern Candymakers. The young man, Chad, was so kind in the shop. He asked me if I wanted to try a sample of the original flavor praline. ☺️ Of course I accepted that offer then ordered a pound of original and lemon flavored pralines to take back with me to Austin (TX). Beautiful shop. Nice people. I love my hometown. Keep up the great work!! Southern Candymakers so sweet!! ⚜️❤️⚜️❤️⚜️
Almost a daily stop while we were in NOLA. Their pralines are amazing. You can sample before you buy, and their staff takes the time to answer your questions (like What's a praline?) They also sell smaller King Kakes.
Best candy 🍬 I have ever had. I order this to be delivered in Texas and go here every time I'm in NOLA …
Not sure if I had reviewed this yet, but I JUST bit into a White Chocolate Tortue from Southern Candymakers that I brought home with me a week ago. It is still so soft and delicious, even after travelling home in my suitcase, and sitting out for a week! Kudos to you Southern Candymakers for your delicious candies! My sister and I thoroughly enjoyed your city, and your candy! I highly recommend.
Best pralines in New Orleans!!!! I promise you all the others do not compare. These are fresh and amazing. My go to everything in New Orleans.
The pralines are magnificent. They also have a large selection of other yummy treats. Anytime You see the word Southern with anything edible, it is worth a stop and see 👀 😋 …
Quite expensive and I think it is not that good. Although my girlfriend really liked it and they give you first some samples which is really useful. Also the people working there were very nice.
The turtles and pralines were delicious! Highly recommend checking this place out for yummy sweets!
Chad was awesome.
The sweets are wonderful.
They have a fantastic selection of chocolate AND praline delicacies! The shopkeeper was really helpful and fun.
Always the best Pralines in New Orleans, made fresh daily.
I am a local business owner and when looking for holiday gifts for some other businesses that I work with regularly, it was important to me to find another local business to support. I am SO grateful that I found Southern Candy Makers! They have lots of beautiful options and all at very reasonable prices. The customer service was above and beyond - because I was late getting my orders in, there is a possibility that the gifts won’t arrive before Christmas and THEY had the thought to include a Happy New Years card as well so they didn’t seem late - such a simple thing but it truly made all the difference for me! And to clarify, I placed my order on 12/20 so the fact that there is even a chance they will arrive on time and they did not give me any grief for ordering so last minute is amazing! Wonderful company, wonderful staff - I highly recommend them!!!!
Our customer service experience was better than great. They allow sampling and we got 1 pound of assorted pecan candy for a reasonable price.
Sue is pretty awesome and the candy matches her energy
This place is old af and deserves the crown for best candy / praline in Nola. Their fresh Carmel and chocolate is amazing to try, but the nuts are what’s so well done, decadent and always good
Best pralines in New Orleans! I have been coming to this shop to buy pralines since I lived in New Orleans '91-'95. Their pralines never disappoint. I was in the store the last week of July 2020 and the pralines were just as amazing as I remembered. The pralines were well loved by my friends at home who received them as gifts. I was glad to hear the same two brothers who founded this shop in the '90s still own and manage it.
My brother in law insisted we go here while in town. We tried the chocolate praline and it was fresh and hot so good. We also tried a couple other things including salted caramel praline and it was sooooo good. So many options and everyone was really helpful and patient.
There candies are little pricey but worth spending money. You can see their workers making candies right there.
Love this place, especially the peanutbutter fudge 🥜 …
Spencer waited on us.. Excellent customer service. He took care of our Christmas Gift orders with an assortment of Delicious Candy.
This place was great. We tried a sample of several items they were all wonderful. They have a wide variety of chocolate covered items. The pralines were the best that we had the entire time we were in the area. They do a great job with gift wraps for souvenirs. I would suggest their salt water taffy they have a large selection of flavors.
I was looking for a real candy shop that wasn't so commercial, and boy did I hit the jackpot. Spencer went out of his way to help me find everything I was looking for. I loved the dark chocolate sea salt tortue (French for turtle, of course :-) that Spencer recommended. Will definitely go back!
We were told that this is where to get the best pralines in NOLA. When you enter the store your greeted with the delicious smell of candy being made fresh right in the store. The gentlemen behind the counter were very friendly and knowledgeable about the candies. Due to Covid, we could not taste test the pralines in the store. We were given two prepackaged samples that we could try outside the store. When I finally tasted the original pralines sample I gave to see it was amazing.
I try to stop by every time I'm in the Quarter and everything I've tried there has been delicious. However, my favourite go-to has always been the dark chocolate glace fruits and especially the candied orange peel which I've gotten a good half dozen or so people hooked on. Due to the location they can sometimes be a bit busy but everyone working there works as fast as they can and are always really polite.
Recently I couldn't make it in in person so I placed a gift order for a pound of the orange peel to be delivered and made the request for it to be made up of smaller pieces. Not only did they do so, they went above and beyond making sure not a single piece was more than about two inches long and the recipient absolutely loved it.
I went in but I swear I didn't get anything to those who know I am dieting. It was, however, very hot outside and the chocolate would have melted before we got back. The is a playground for chocolate and praline lovers of phantasmic proportions. You can watch them make the candies through a plexiglass window. You can peruse the bountiful shelves of wonderfulness untill you finally settle on what you want now. Gotta go back when I am not on a diet.
The most delicious pralines in New Orleans! My only regret was buying only two, rather than a couple of dozen to take home with me (don’t let this happen to you!). Located in the “strip mall” between Cafe du Monde and the French Market.
Their Prailines are amazing!! I bought 2 lbs of them.
A local friend brought me here 4 years ago when I asked him who had the best pralines in the city. I was not disappointed. Yes, they are a little pricey, but after savoring a sweet potato praline or a coconut praline, you will want to pay them for the privilege. Quality costs extra, and these pralines, fudges, toffees, and nuts are worth every penny and then some. You're not buying candy. You're indulging in a New Orleans experience you will not regret.
We taste tested a bunch of different pralines during our weekend NOLA trip, and this shop by far had the best one. Not oversweet and the right amount of chewiness. They also have other amazing treats like turtles. We went home with two boxes and still enjoy them.
I never had pralines. OMG, this place is wonderful. I had pralines and my absolute favorite was the chocolate covered peaches. Knowing they shipped was great news.
Read this...because I don’t even eat candy much...I decided to see what all the hype was about regarding pralines and and talked to the confectioners there before purchasing. The confectioners were not only friendly but were super descriptive regarding the flavor and consistency before I even attempted to taste it. I tasted them and my whole world changed. I purchased king cake pralines and original. That was 16 dollars..
Fast forward the hotel room five hours later. All gone. We quickly awakened to walk to southern candymakers before a tour. I purchased 36 dollars worth this time. Amazing.
Fast forward one day later...we awakened early thinking we could get to our flight in time and purchased. I was so sad when I realized we wouldn’t make it. On the plane, I purchased 68 dollars worth. They just came in the mail today and changed my world. What an amazing treat and a beautiful reminder of all that is wonderful in New Orleans. 100% worth it...and we actually attempted to try another company. They were disgusting. This place is the best!
I have been to the actual store and was overwhelmed with deliciousness and now, I order for friends AND me. Some deliveries have been far away from New Orleans, and I have never been disappointed with melted gifts. It is perfect every time. Friends go way out of their way for me in order to get these treats 🥰. …
Praline are the best ever. They reeled us in on the free samples. After tasting about everything they offer we got a pound box of pralines, toffee, and tourtus. We will definitely have to stop again before leaving town
The pralines are probably the best around, having a nice buttery taste, but at $26/pound for a sugar and nut candy they OUGHT TO be! Good heavens! The other candies, even lowly chocolate covered peanuts, are all also $25-$26 a pound. REALLY??? I can buy the finest chocolates imported from Belgium for less than that. Place is still packed. All I have to say, I'm in the wrong business.
They gave me samples! I'd never had pralines before and they were wonderful. (My friend from New Orleans approved of them when I returned home.) Better to get fresh than the prepackaged items. They will seal the box for transporting home. Very helpful staff.
Never disappoints! Went here on my first trip to New Orleans and 3 years later is just as delicious and addicting and always with friendly staff. The sweet potato praline is my absolute favorite! I love that you can try all the different pralines and majority of the delicious treats!
They have a wide variety of chocolates and a few other types of sweets, such as glazed nuts and ice cream. Everything I tried was very good, although a little pricey.
Absolutely worth the awards, hype, and excellent location. Although the sweet potato version is not for me - too much cinnamon - the creamy pralines are perfect. Just done enough to bring out the caramel-y maple flavor, tons of nuts, and whole nuts too. Pralines and sugar caramels in general are a subtle art and these folk are artists.
I don't know if it's the best. I haven't tried enough. However, it is very good. It's not grainy, the pecans as good.
I'll keep looking, but this is my go to place for something to take home when I visit New Orleans.
Always great...pricey but great.
Very cool laid back place. Workers were nice and they let u sample the goods. Many praline flavors and also chocolates everything i had was sooo good. you can see the person making the pralines as u enter. I find that they had the fresher pralines vs the other places and name brands claiming to be the freshest. They sell many other things including food seasoning which I did buy they also sell boxes of whatever they have. I wish i had bought more to bring back home I've been craving it sigh.
Free samples (which is always a plus). The workers were very helpful and outgoing, without being pushy. We got a coconut white chocolate, mint square, and original praline and they were all delicious. An employee accidentally bumped into my husband who didn't have a firm grasp on the mint square and it fell to the ground. They got us a new one for free! Thank you!
Delicious candy! A little overpriced! We had some homemade pralines from new Orleans school of cooking a dozen for $10 & and they were just as good. Maybe they price it bc of the tourist location.
I was very impressed with the customer service. I needed a last minute gift. I placed an order with a special request and, not only did they call to help me, they shipped the order that day. Two days later, everyone seemed to love the pralines and agreed they were the best that they'd ever had. I'd highly recommend them! *The rum praline seemed the be everyone's favorite...
I literally followed my nose into this fabulous family owned handcrafted candies store. I was greeted with fresh pralines and it is a sweet tooth's dream in there. The ladies were making fresh caramel, pralines and chocolates. There is something for everyone in this delightful place, and the staff is always smiling and friendly.
My cousin wanted to send a "New Orleans" gift to a friend in Boston. I convinced her to try Southern Candymakers. There is a large assortment of candy for sale. They encourage you to sample the various confections. If you are on a diet this place will test your willpower. The service was friendly and top notch. My cousin wanted pralines but they weren't individually wrapped for shipping. No problem. The wonderful young lady offered to individually wrap each praline then prepare them to be shipped. My cousin got a few things for herself while we were there. This was a sweet trip.
Triple dipped oreos sweet enough to cause a cavity and a mouth orgasm.
Dark chocolate covered orange peels are amazine. Pralines of all types - you gotta try the king cake pralines! Huge cases of freshly made candies and chocolates. Everyone is always super friendly and if you go at the right time, you can watch the pralines being made. YUMMMM
Fresh daily, and amazing. Highly recommended
The BEST praline shop and candy maker in New Orleans. We pass by every time we're in the Quarter. The Chocolate Pralines are our favorite. Just go in and taste a sample, you'll be hooked too... シ
Best pralines in the city, in my opinion. They're fresh and they will let you try several samples. My favorites are the chocolate, original, coconut, potato and peanut butter. They sell rum too, if that's your flavor give it a try. Ice cream isn't bad either. I never miss a chance to go here on my trips to New Orleans now. They'll wrap the pralines up nicely in a box or tin so you can give them as a gift to your friends or family back home, but please don't put them inside your luggage on your flight back home. TSA will open them up (if your luggage is checked out) and they'll be all crumbled when you open your bag.
Excellent candy! The lemon pralines are to die for. We found them the Candymakers on a happy accident and we walked into the building only to be enveloped in a smell of cooking caramel and melting chocolates. It was what I imagine heaven smells like. Both ends of the store, there were people making fresh candies and at the display, there was a lovely young woman offering up free samples of ther extraordinarily awesome goods. She was polite, informative, and very accommodating. She was patient while I couldn't make up my mind. Actually, everyone was friendly. The lady making their version of turtles (I dont remember what they called them, but I called them turtles several times and they were very polite about not correcting me) and explained their process and engaged in general conversation with me. She let me take pictures as well. I very highly recommend Southern Candymakers to any and everyone. And we will most definitely be back. <3
Good candy and a large selection of chocolate treats. The best pralines around, as well as chocolate covered oreos, fruit, and more. Friendly staff serve up fun items, and you can see them making pralines at most hours. A great experience and a fun trip for anyone.
Many places in New Orleans make a good praline, and many claim to be the "world's best", but in my experience this place is tops! You can't beat their original praline but try the rum, chocolate, and peanut butter ones anyway, you won't be disappointed!
Prices are pretty steep, you can expect to pay $15 or so for a nice bag of pralines, but ... you get what you pay for. Highly recommended.
Absolute lovely candy place. As soon as you walk in you are hit with a delicious cookies in the oven type of smell that makes you feel happy and at home. The candy is so delicious & beautifully made. If you are in the French quarter area your going to want to get to this place!
Was going to go to the Praline Connection but they were closed. Glad they were because this place is Awesome! Great service and the Pralines are soooooo good. They have peanut butter Pralines and more sweets. Definitely a place to go while in the N.O ..... 5 ⭐
Always a treat visiting here not least for the wonderful aroma of caramelizing sugar and browning butter! They're of course most famous for the praline pecans, but my personal recommendation and favorite is still the glazed pecans which allow the nut to shine with highlights of brown butter, salt and caramel! You just go ahead and try having only one...
Very good selection of candies. Staff is always willing to give you samples and had s nice variety of gift boxes. Of all the candy ships visited, these pralines were the best in my opinion.
Best tasting Pralines in New Orleans. Simple ingredients: butter, sugar, cream, pecans...keep it simple to really taste the flavor. And then it comes down to the Praline maker..timing and attention. Also best shipping around ...same day orders ship out as late as 3 pm!
Great selection of pralines and chocolates + very friendly and helpful staff.
I love ordering from them! Their orders are made fresh to order and are handmade! They provide friendly, helpful, and prompt customer service. Their commitment shows in the taste of their sweets! I'm hooked.
Much love to this place for its complete lack of glossy veneer; a decidedly un-touristy vibe in a quite touristy neighborhood.
This is the only praline I've tasted, but it was definitely quite tasty. Sugar is melted in completely, no feeling of biting on sugar crystals. The original is good candy, but the sweet potato version is better - a legitimately interesting, memorable flavor. Warm and spicy sweet potato pie flavor meets the texture and sweetness of the original praline. Excellent with a cafe au lait!
Super friendly, one of the originals. There are praline shops everywhere, this one is worth the trip to. Many feel generic/touristy, not so here, very local feel. I tried one of each praline, which is just over a half pound. So dang good I ate the whole box in one day lol.
I love this place! Staff was super nice. Pralines were the best we tried in all of New Orleans. I'm not even lying when I said ALL of NO LA. The rum pralines were my favorite. This is a must visit if you are anywhere near NO LA.
This shop was a goldmine I randomly walked into. Definitely the best pralines I’ve ever had along with a ton of amazing candies. It’s a bit pricey, but you won’t regret buying some!
If you've got money to spend this may be the place for you. They allowed us to sample several varieties of their confections (which is good if you don't have money to spend😉) upon further inspection you will find that none of their confections are priced less than 25.99 per lb. Thinking back on all the tasty samples i tried to think of how much they weighed as opposed to how they tasted. Each tiny Sq. cm of treat weighed quite a lot. I gurantee you if you were to get two whole pralines, you're already looking at .5lbs or more! Thats a lot of money for not a lot of treat!
We live in Idaho but have need to the Southern Candymakers several times and its the first place we go when we get to the French Quarter. My son is getting married in December and wanted a gift box to be served with the refreshments. I noted this on my order as I was concerned it would get here on time and still be fresh. Jenny from the Southern Candymakers contacted me and said they would send my order out in time to get here and be fresh. So much appreciate their customer service and their great candy. It should be on the must do first list for visitors to the French Quarter. They are awesome to work with and candy is great.
*NM DONUT KWEEN ADVENTURES*
Our last day walking around the #frenchquarter we met a kool group of young locals that referred us over to the southern candymakers! We were in search of the best pralines in New Orleans and we were definitely not disappointed!
Not only do you get free samples before you purchase but they have amazing flavors! From your "anything but standard" pralines to chocolate, rum, coconut and the best and only lemon praline I've ever tasted!
The cute candy making shop also has peanut brittle, cashew brittle and many other candies and chocolates to chose from. Don't forget to look through there section that has items made by other local vendors such as Banana Fosters sauce and items from Cafe Du Monde.
I love to see local businesses supporting other local businesses!
Workers were super friendly and nice. Pralines and other chocolates were amazing
Opened me up to what pralines are. Very small and friendly spot. Stopped in here instead of a 3rd party shop selling their goods. Try everything. And without a doubt buy a pralines and cream milkshake. It's dope.
The only reason why I gave it a three star is because of the price. If a do the math each praline and torture piece ended up costing me pretty much a buck. But rest assured they taste heavenly. It’s just that I couldn’t buy a whole lot and bring it back for everyone back home because of the price.
Always a favorite spot for the whole family.
Candy is amazing, staff is amazing, we only wish we had one on the west coast.
Good pralines fun store smells great free samples and friendly staff
All varieties of chocolate covered goodness in this little shop. The first time we visited they were about to close and let us in and helped us with no attitude. The staff was great the next few times we visited. Always fun to visit local candy makers.
Customer service was great and their pralines are the best I've ever had. My favs are sweet potato, original and chewy praline. The tortues are pretty tasty as well.
Go, or if you can't, order online: these pralines are worth the wait either way! The shop is clearly a family operation, with decor from the fifties (if not earlier), and cheery staff, who will let you sample their array. But be sure to get the classic pralines, their flagship sweet. The staff will be happy to tell you how they confect their treats, the sources of pecans and the process: all natural and all good.
#15bday
Great store to buy pralines.
I have a huge sweet tooth and my blood sugar level is usually completely cracked out. I feel like I'm admitting defeat or something when I say this, but all the pralines I tried were way too sweet for actual enjoyment. The intense hockey pucks of sugar poison did for a while make the whole constellation appear before my eyes.
3 stars for all the samples, efforts put into the wide variety of praline/relevant selections, and cute old school layout.
Price for a small box of pralines was more steep compared to all other similar candy-stores/chocolatiers I've been to. I wonder if I'm paying premium for some sort of hallucinogenic effect from that dangerous dosage of sugar that might soon make me believe I've turned into a wolf.
Ok, I just left this place and had a wonderful time! Eddie and the rest of the crew were soo helpful and willing to share their knowledge about praline! However, Eddie tried to come for the LA Chargers, seeing that I come from Cali!
You must stop by and as soon as you hit the front door the sweet smells will have you filling a box, bag, crate😂🤣! Thank you for share your southern hospitality!!!!
Bought my mum some praline from here, she loves it, my friend tried the chocolate which went down very well. The smell walking in is divine. The praline is freshly made on site
The best pralines. It just melts in your mouth. It's smooth with the right crunch. It's not gritty or chewy. There's got to be a secret ingredient. I ate two as I walked. You just want to keep eating it.
I come to NOLA often... they really are the BEST pralines! I have tried other stores and no one compares. My favorites are the original and coconut. My daughter loves the tortures.
Fantastic candy shop. Best. Pralines. Ever. As soon as you walk in the girls behind the counter offer you a sample of their fabulous pralines. There are many other types of candies to choose from, most of which are chocolate covered dreams. I was visiting New Orleans on a business trip. I will return to New Orleans to for two things, pralines from Southern Candymakers and dinner at Restaurant August. If you are in New Orleans and want the best pralines, you must visit this shop.
Staff was super nice. The original praline was so sweet and creamy...I felt like a kid in a candy store. The rum praline was my fav.
I discovered this place back in the 1990's. As far as I am concerned it is the ONLY place to get pralines in NOLA. I come here when in the city, and always direct friends here when they are visiting. I always get effusive thanks. Can't wait to come back. RUN DO NOT WALK TO THEIR DOORS!!
The divinity! Besides everything else in the store, the divinity is worth the trip, the wait...the whatever it is. Don't wonder. Go get the authentic and delicious southern candy treats here.
I received a box of assorted candy as a Christmas gift this year from a friend. This is the first time I had ever had their candy. Let me just say, A-MAZING!!! By far the best box of candy I have EVER had! I cannot say enough and highly recommend. If you want to send a special, impressive, wonderful treat, you can't make a better choice!
The Pralines here are very good. The one thing I did not like his when I went in I noticed that one of the candymaker's was pouring melted peanut butter out of a huge Jif jar. The jar was melted in at the bottom. The toxins released from plastic when microwaved with your food in it is terrible. That is the reason they get four stars
We stopped in a few candy places to try - but we had to come back to southern candymalers again before we left 😂 the chocolate pecan turtles are to die for. So good. The pralines are also very good. …
Best pralines and toffee ever. I love the sweet potato praline. Creamy original is the absolute king though. White chocolate macadamia nut toffee is heavenly.
Had to stop and get the fresh cashew 'turtles'...so yummy. Sweet potato pralines weren't my cup of tea. They have ice cream (Blue Bell) for those warm/hot days.
The candies are okay, I mean they are just candies after all. They are quite expensive actually. I think the pralines cost over $20 per pound, and that's about 10-12 candies, which means each piece costs over $2. There's a store not far from there (the cooking school) that also sells pralines for 99 cents apiece, and I sampled those too and thought they are not that different.
Excellent! Candy is phenomenal! My favorite homemade place candy place in the entire city. The staff is wonderful! Very helpful, patient and kind. They even stayed open beyond closing for us!
Freshly made Pralines and other delectable candies, don't wasy your time getting the boxed pralines at other locations they taste horrible. This place is the real deal and will satisfy your sweet tooth!
The ladies were so helpful and the candy and sweets delicious. Everything was made in house. Definitely a great stop for those with a sweet tooth.
The absolute best place to get genuine New Orleans pralines. A little pricey, but so is everything else in New Orleans.
The people are great and the food is DELICIOUS.
I Love this. If I lived in New Orleans I would be 500lbs. I get the praline on special occasions and they are so good. Celebrating my anniversary and came from Baton Rouge just to get candy.
Such good prawlines! They are bigger than the other stores I went to. They give samples too. The sweet potato prawlines taste like thanksgiving day sweet potato pie. I would also recommend the chocolate turtles
This is the best candy place on earth!! TRUTH!! Everytime my family and I visit New Orleans, we stop by the store.
The customer service here is great. They weren't trying to force a sale on us. Suggested we come back to buy the fresh made daily (delicious) pralines on day of checkout to remain the freshest for a longer time.
I live in New Orleans and their pralines are my favorite. They are desert tonight!
The pricey & decadent goods in a simplistic storefront. Fudges, pralines, turtles & other sweets abound. Watch as the chocolate artisans craft these treasures or slip in for almost sinful delight. Remember if you enjoy sweets, get double what you think you need.
I am a fan of all things delicious but Im an even bigger fan when those things are fresh and cost conscious. I don't know what the average person is willing to spend on great food but my tolerance is pretty high. Imagine my surprise when the best carmel apple I've ever had only cost $7.00. They took a jumbo granny smith apple covered in this amazing chewy sweet caramel and rolled it in....wait for it.....PECANS! OMG! Im in love. Now mind you I bought this apple during the French Quarter Festival April 11, 2015. I kept it refrigerated until i ate it today April 23, 2015. Talk about guaranteed freshness! Its surely a guilty pleasure and well worth the wait, since I don't live in town. The store is also known for its Pralines. They come in a myriad of flavors like rum, chocolate, sweet potato, and classic. You can get a catalog for seasonal orders or the holidays. Individual candies are charged by the pound. At your request they will package them for travel with tissue paper and shrink wrap to ensure freshness. Talk about above and beyond. Samples are offered of some products if you're not quite sure what you want so don't be shy just ask. Already looking forward to my next trip!
Got a candy craving in New Orleans? Head to Southern Candymakers for some great options. They have many different varieties of pralines (of course) as well as chocolate covered Glacé fruits and all the regular favorites; mint chocolates, chocolate covered pretzels and marshmallows, chocolate covered Oreos and salt water taffy.
The smell pulled us in! The awards on the wall guaranteed we bought way more than we planned. The taste makes me wanna go back before we leave!!
Customer service is great they will ship your items to your home so that you don't have to take them on the plane. And the pralines are just fantastic great gift items
Absolutely the BEST pralines in New Orleans... And such pleasant clerks. Plus: free samples so you get what you like!
Small but amazing place. I go here every time I visit NOLA for their pralines and delicious chocolate covered Oreos. Free sample of pralines, too!
The best store bought pralines! Bought a box to bring back to Maryland and ate most of them myself. Taste like Mom's.
If in New Orleans, please stop and treat yourself. The pralines are the best. My favorite is the chocolate. You can watch them make the candy right in the store.
These are THE BEST Pralines Anywhere!!!
I 've traveled a lot and tested the pralines wherever I found them.
These are better than all others.
Everything made by this family store is wonderful
The best fresh made praline shop in New Orleans! They also have plenty of other candies including sugar free options.
Get the pralines, just do it, you'll thank me later and I'm from Texas where we know a bit about pralines. Turtles were exceptional as well. They aren't cheap but you get what you pay for.
My second stop every trip to NO (after Beckham's Bookstore on next block). Best pralines and tortues are wonderful. Staff very friendly and helpful. Thanks!!
The best pralines - prahlines - whatever. Ever. regular, chocolate, sweet potato. whatever you want. And toffee. and Super nice helpful people and Lots of samples! I always go there!
It was a little pricey. But the items were tasty. They let me sample the praline, which was delicious. Staff was super friendly!
Best pralines in New Orleans. Selection is great. Quality is consistently great. Always a hero when gifts are bought home as souvenirs.
I go here every time I visit New Orleans. The staff is awesome, and the pralines are incredibly delicious. I recommend Southern Candymakers over every other place!!!
That classic praline is pure heaven. I ate a pound of it in 2 days!!! It was magnificent. Can't wait to get more. I think I will have to order some online!
OMG you can smell the candy being made a block away. When we walked in the smell and samples make you want to by and taste everything in the store. This is definitely a place to stop when in the area.
Great, freshly made pralines and gobs of other candies. Great customer service. My 2nd visit to NOLA and I came back to Southern Candymakers.
I absolutely love this place! Just found out they do mail orders lol
The worker gives out samples of the pralines, and they are delicious. It is a tiny place, but when we went they weren't too busy and were able to get in and out pretty quickly.
Nice counter people. Very generous with samples of homemade pralines and chocolates. Bought tasty dark chocolate squares, one with almonds, another with cashews, and a third containing pecans.
The smells comming from the shop were wonderful. The staff was very friendly and eager to help. Don't waste your money on prepackaged versions. Make this a mandatory stop
chocolate was good, definitely go there if you want some upscale dessert, but keep in mind it is EXPENSIVE
Cute candy store. Great selection of pralines and other chocolate based candies. A few taffy and other candy selections were available as well. The service was nice and very helpful.
The BEST in the French Quarter. We visited twice...friendly people and amazing pralines, tortues and chocolates... must visit this spot.
The praline turtles were so fresh and delicious! I also was corrected in the way I pronounce praline to the correct way apparently, PrahLeen, not PrALeen. So says the young man behind the counter.
Great selection. Friendly staff. Delicious treats!
Very friendly. Allowed us to have samples since we had never tried pralines before.
Get the glazed pralines! Pricey but well worth it. Make sure to clearly read what is in a mix if you get one. They deliver to other states which is awesome.
It was first time and I chose different flavors of candy! So far, I've tried the dark chocolate covered glace' pear, it was delicious!!
I love this place for 2 reasons...tortues and pralines. Other stuff is good or ok but those 2 things will ensure I go back or order on line
A must go to when I'm in town.
Amazing. So friendly. Allowing you to sample items at your desire. Best praline (classic) I've tasted. Mint chocolate Oreos were 👌🏻- insane. …
The smell. The smell alone gets 5 stars. Everything here is great. There isn't a point in saying this or that. It's all amazing. But the pralines... Get the pralines.
We can't go to the Quarter without a stop here. Love the turtles and the toffee and the peanut butter cups are a meal in themselves. If they sold stock I would buy it.
Absolutely the best candy store in New Orleans. As you walk by the sweet scent of caramel will draw you in and there tasty sweets will not disappoint!!
This store was a refreshing break from the cheesy t-shirts and beads souvenirs stores all over the area. They have gifts you can actually bring home to friends proudly.
Amazing pralines! Stephanie, Terry, and TJ made me feel welcome and happy as soon as I walked in. I look forward to taking the pralines home as treats for my friends!
I always love it here. Friendly, knowledgeable staff and the best pralines ever!!!!! A must visit EVEYTIME I come to NOLA.
Smells like heaven...make multiple stops with each visit to New Orleans..love the Decatur St location
Great people and some of the best pralines in NoLa
They have a great selection of all kinds of sweets and chocolates here. They'll ship to almost anywhere, and it's well worth the walk if you're in the area.
Love this place. Tried going to other praline stores but none were attractive for me to even try their items. Came back to this shop twice and were beyond impressed.
By far the best in New Orleans, maybe the world! We stopped 3 times this week. They make everything there and really knew their stuff. And they ship!
This place feels like going back in time. You can see them making the candy and all of it tastes amazing! Staff is very friendly too. Go to this place!
Oh my, why did I only bring half a pound home??? Thank God for shipping!!! Best pralines I've ever had in my life. Will be ordering from y'all for life!
Always busy. Always great.
Super yummy treats! They let you sample most things before you buy, which is nice. And the employees are very friendly and helpful!
Many different flavors and candies..
The best! Pralines made daily! Had to have some to take home for my kids. 🙂 …
Absolutely delicious pralines. I also got some of the salted caramel fudge and regret giving it as a present. I should have eaten it all while I had the chance.
Delicious. But a little pricey. Your eyes will order more than you need. It's very rich so you can probably deal with less than you want.
This place offers great Pralines. Price is slightly above average, but recommend trying if you are traveling near the area.
Must must must must have. And if you forget. They sell online and ship nationwide.
Very friendly style good selection of chocolates. Great for taking home souvenirs
Amazing. Everything is absolutely amazing. They have tons of samples for you to try and were super helpful when it came to narrowing down the overwhelming amount of sweet options.
I am from New Orleans, have made the pecan and coconut pralines, know the original taste and your company has proven to be among the best.
love this place. delicious. fresh. buttery. no artificial flavors. worth every penny. every thing and i mean everything, melts in your mouth.
Love this place! If you're ever in the French quarter check them out and grab a tortuse!! Sooooo goood!
Awesome selection. Very friendly staff.
Ordered pralines, divinity, and peanut brittle. Very disappointed in the pralines and divinity. Peanut brittle was a huge hit for my husband.
Staff was very helpful and also offered samples. Purchased a pound of tortues and a chocolate Oreo - everything was delicious!
Best pralines I've had in N.O. Love that we can sample before you buy. Always friendly.
The best pralines in New Orleans, plus a great selection of homemade candy. Perfect for souvenirs or to bring home for yourself
Great small candy shop that makes pralines so you can see them being made. Fun place and very good candies.
Every candy perfectly hand made in house. They also package and hold for you if like. Great staff and service
Yummy sugared treats. The smell hits you at the door. Friendly helpful staff. Enjoyed our visit!
Recommended to me by several tour guides as the place they buy from. It was a smaller shop with a short wait. The candy was excellent. We will buy more.
A MUST-GO spot in NOLA! Their candy is AMAZING!!
Fresh locally made candies, great staff.
Went to this shop when on holiday and have never looked back on any other toffee
Best regards the happy to find out but it was really great to find out more
Staff was awesome. Candy is out of this world. I walked, with blisters, for over a mile. I would do it again. Completely worth it.
Cute place with some great coffee mixes. Also had a lovely mint choc. Covered oreo mmm-mm!
It smelled so good and had so many wonderful treats. I went crazy and got a bunch of stuff for everyone back at home.
It was crowded with only a couple people working but I didn’t have to wait long. Items I purchased were delicious.
Very yummy and good selection of flavors! Staff was very friendly. A must stop in NOLA.
The best pralines in New Orleans...you'll never eat Aunt Sally's again!
The prices are pretty up there for the quantity. I do understand that they hand make all of these. There selection was rather large which was nice.
Friendly staff and great candy options. I enjoy the occasional sweets and they were very helpful in finding one I would enjoy.
Best pralines in town! And free samples! Try the various flavors of turtles.
Such nice workers and AMAZING pralines and toffee! A place in the French Quarter where the pralines don't taste "touristy."
Beat place for candy in New Orleans. Great staff and yummy treats. The s’mores are probably the best I’ve ever had
One of my favorite stops in New Orleans. The staff is great and the pralines are the best.
Stop by and try their pralines. They make them fresh there, and the staff is super friendly. And tell them that 'Justin' sent you. 😂 …
We tasted several different candymakers and this was by far the BEST Praline in New Orleans❤
This place had the best candy, my girlfriend loved the pralines I brought back!
Very knowledgeable staff. Knew what was gluten free off the top of their heads. Really good "prah-leans."
Very good pralines and tortues (turtles). Slightly pricey, but probably the best pralines in the French Quarter.
I love going here whenever I am in the city. I order on line too. Their service in person and on line is very professional.

Loved! They let you sample before you buy. They also ship their deliciousness!
It is exactly what the sign says it is but the truth is it's not actually a touristy or show off place it's just a candy store upscale
I bought rum, original, and peanut butter pralines.
Awesome little shop. Liked it a lot. Went for pralines, and got a lot more.
