Staff are Friendly and knowledgeable. Has a nice selection of both art and stationery supplies. They also offer fountain and dip pen supplies too. Many materials are accompanied by hand-made samples, and you are able to test certain brushes and pens. Their watercolor paper sampler pack is great - when they have it Able to request a special order for an item they don't stock.

FAMILY FRIENDLY, approachable, knowledgeable staff. If you have ever felt intimidated by visiting an art store or have ever felt an art store was exclusive or "out of your league," the way I did years ago, or if you have imposter syndrome about being an artist or wanting to be an artist, I urge you to pay Wet Paint or their website a visit. They have so many fun classes for all levels and supplies for adults and children alike. Great gift ideas, and of course tons of open stock, so if you can't buy a complete set or if you just want to replace something or create your own "flight" of materials, this is the place to go. I was not surprised to hear some well-respected artists I follow on YouTube talk about Wet Paint and how they wish they had something like it near them. Prices are good for art stores (not craft stores, but selection is SO much better, including professional grade rather than only student or craft grade), sales regularly, customer service top-notch, a reputation for treating their employees well, located in fun area with excellent nearby restaurants and shopping, and locally owned. You can also take a stroll around Macalester College grounds and charming neighborhoods. Win-win all around.

This is THE BEST art store in the St. Paul. I have been shopping here for at least 25 years. I always prefer to shop local small stores over big chains. The prices are a wee bit more in certain items, the same on some, lower on a few, BUT they stand behind the quality of their products and you can return things. The Wet Paint Staff is so incredibly friendly and knowledgeable! They are always there to help without being overbearing or intrusive. Sometimes I stop quick for 1 item, other times I browse for hours. On the rare occasion they don't know the answer to my random question, another staff member will, or they will find out for you. They have also special ordered things for me when I need them. This store is also wonderful for children to learn about art and have fun, the staff is very supportive with kids. They have tons of kid sets too. There are bigger stores with more items, but you won't get the help and knowledge of this AMAZING STAFF! This store is always clean, colorful and tidy. It's so fun to browse and meander through all the beautiful displays. They have wonderful paper, pens, paint, easels, canvases, an amazing selection of spray paint, oils, acrylics, pastels, pencils. Just everything!! I can't say enough wonderful things!!! Stop by and see!!

I am not an artist, I came in for fountain pens. That being said there was an overwhelming amount of art supplies all over the place, I'm sure you can find what you're looking for. If you come for the fountain pens you'll definitely have a good selection. It's not huge but they have a variety of pens across many price points and styles. The ink selection is even better and was a lot of fun to peruse.

Came here as a complete beginner to acrylics. A super friendly sales associate helped me find the best option for a palette and helped me with a technique problem and gave me a solution. All the employees were helpful in giving me advice and directions to other art stores in the neighborhood too. I also loved their selection of paint colors and the prices looked very reasonable for a small business art store which I expected to be pretty spendy. If I need art/paint supplies in the future I would definitely return to Wet Paint for them!

I ordered from Wet Paint after learning about them through Steve Mitchell's Mind of watercolor videos. I ordered a number of paints, brushes and paper. They shipped super fast, quickest way too which I very much appreciated, the box was packed very well, everything wrapped almost like Christmas presents, my brushes protected...just so well done like they really cared. Wow! What an incredible store and staff. Fixing up an old plastic toy for my family, I needed a paint that wouldn’t rub onto clothing or skin. After consulting with a very helpful staff, they put me onto a couple tiny bottles of paint. It worked perfectly! Great products and knowledgeable artists working at this shop. Hands down the best art supply store I've been to. They have the largest selection of dip pen calligraphy nibs (both pointed pen and broad) and inks I've ever seen. They have a large selection of fountain pen paraphernalia as well -- basically, Wet Paint is a calligrapher or fountain pen aficionado's heaven. I must also mention the other reason I am a repeat customer: the staff is fantastic. Everyone is so friendly and knowledgeable about everything they carry, and they all seem to genuinely enjoy working here, which I think makes all the difference in the world. I never write reviews. Ever. That's how much I love this place! They have something for everyone, and it's probably my favorite store.

Don't waste your time or money anywhere else. I've been searching for paint pens. Nobody had what I needed, on a whim, I stopped here. Bingo! Within a minute of entering the store I was asked if I needed help, maybe it was the look on my face, the woman showed me what they had and I was thrilled & the price was better than I've seen elsewhere. I decided to look around, cuz I was feeling lucky. I found tie dye supplies, mounted canvases, inks, paints of all sorts, brushes, and even skate board decks. I didn't even make it thru the entire store before I blew the money I had w me. I even had to put stuff back. The store was comfortable and inviting. Wet Paint is my new favorite store.

This place is amazing. It has all an amazing of specialized tools for painting and other crafts. The staff is very knowledgeable and kind. They helped me with the most obscure questions I had about many different things. There is a parking lot in the back in addition to all the street parking. This shop is located on Grand Ave. one of St. Paul's more pretty, nostalgic streets. I love Grand Ave. thus many of the shops located here feel special to me. Wet Paint is no exception. You could go to five or six stores, or just one. A cute art store up on Grand, this is my favorite place to go. Their stuff can sometimes be on the expensive side, but nevertheless it's great quality. I have gotten cute pens there too such as a banana shaped one with a monkey on it. I love this place. Although I have to drive about 25 minutes just to buy art stuff from here it's worth every time. Everytime I come here the staff are amazing and very welcoming which I love, they conversate with you and also very knowledgeable about everything. I like the fact they don't talk to you all robotic and actually talk to you like a person. Knowledgeable staff, great service, and large selection of high quality art products. We went to get some supplies for my son's 3rd grade project and got the perfect paint and pearlizing medium. We got good advice on how to paint an unconventional surface. Buy local! A craft store big box may be cheaper but here you can find someone to really answer your questions and offer suggestions. I've heard they have wonderful classes too, and plan to attend one soon.

As a long time customer, I love the supplies and store. However, as a younger artist, I have experienced a strong negative vibe from the older male staff. They act condescending and impatient towards me when I ask a question. I am also followed around the store and watched wherever I go. I understand this might be due to shoplifting, but it makes me uncomfortable (especially as someone who has been shopping here for so long). I love the store- but I think there needs to be reform on the costumer service side.

More intimate and less corporate than places like Blicks, Wet Paint has the feel of a neighborhood boutique yet with an ample supply of everything you need for your creative projects. The staff is extraordinarily helpful and will go out of their way to give you advice and help you find or order what you need. There's a great selection of kids' art supplies, paints, painters' mediums, tools, canvasses, pens (exotic ones too), specialty papers, notebooks, and space for a variety of art classes. I am in north central Indiana and use St Paul Wet Paint for my needs. One of my most recent purchases has been the mechanical colored pencils from Zebra. 26 different colors and they have refill colors available. The price point let's you know that these are not Derwent or Carandache, but they live up to their price point. I have used them for on the go sketching and drawing. No sharpener to carry around, just grab your pallet colors and go. They are not blessed with an over abundance of pigments, they do blend nicely with odorless spirits. I do not mind lending them as they are not my good/favorite materials. I am sure you understand that dynamic. The service from Wet Paint is as always above and beyond. (Looking for paints?) This Location Has Near Everything You could ask for from an art store. They sell for a price that I can say is gonna be as high as the quality of what it is you buy. They are high end most definitely. Therefore if you are not willing to invest 50$ or more than this location may not be the one for you. I spent 70$ and got a comfortable variety of acrylics for myself. And I walked home with 8 tubes. Its hard because I want to buy all the colors but the spectrum is just too grand.. Regardless the eiseles are wayy too expensive. ..imo...as some of the standing models ranging upwards of 350$ after that idk if many people could afford the eisele, and a canvas with 10 colors! In conclusion this place is organized well and the people working there know what they are doing by making the atmosphere of color a little more fun to jump into!

Fan-damn-tastic lil store. No, it's not giant, but it's crammed with cool stuff. Look in all the corners and go through all the shelves--you'll find multiple things that make your jaw drop, like truly massive chunks of graphite and The Best Drawing Pads. I was there this past weekend and asked them to recommend a pencil sharpener. The owner pulled one out from behind the counter and demonstrated it, and even grabbed a prismacolor pencil off the shelf and sharpened it when I asked him if those pencils would survive it. The one he had was missing the desk clamp and he ordered a new one for me and would mail it for free when it came in. It didn't *quite* beat me home, but nearly! I think it was three days later when I saw it at my front door.
