Great selection of fish and plants. Good turnover so you are likely to get fish that are healthier. I visited a number of other shops in town, but kept returning here. Only shop that consistently checked on my tank size and stocking level prior to selling me more fish.

Support this business!! I came here to buy my first fish and just set up a basic fish tank with no filtration system. I am not looking to create an aquarium at this moment, but if I was, the selection at this store is great! I have to emphasize that the staff members were extremely nice and super helpful!! The store was busy and near closing time when I visited. I was asking a bunch of questions about setting up my tank and fish care generally (because I am determined to not kill my first fish haha). The staff did not rush me at all and answered all of my questions - even the ridiculous ones. This is also just a fun store to pop into because they have turtles too and so many fun fish to look at. I went here on a Friday and it was a fun way to begin my weekend. The prices of the fish and supplies are also very fair. I paid about $10 for my Siamese Fighting Fish. All the creatures at the store seem to be well cared for, and the store was organized, neat, and clean. If I decide to build something more elaborate than just a simple fish tank, like a small aquarium - I will certainly be coming here. You can also come in at any time and they will give you a container of aged water. I was told this is useful for maintaining healthy water for your fish and also useful for when you clean the tank and give "new" water - the aged water helps reduce shocking the fish due to the change in environment. I'm learning, and my fish (Moksha) is still alive! Yay!:)

i love it here but look for evidence of snails in the tank if you’re looking to buy plants. we brought home a bunch of tiny snail hitchhikers and the guy basically said that was guaranteed with their plants. then he scoops up two assassin snails that would take care of it, thinking he was taking responsibility for the issue and giving me these as a courtesy so i say thank you and go to leave with these things i was handed and never asked for and he asks for payment and being taken aback by this and holding these now displaced snails i handed him my card but it’s not sitting right with me maybe load your own tanks with assassin snails instead of creating problems you happen to sell the solution for..?

Wow!! What a selection of equipment, decor, food and live fish!! I was looking for a specific fish and had been all over the twin cities to find it, Aqualand had it! Their live plant selection was amazing! And if anything you have to stop in to see the Mata Mata turtle! She’s so cool! Will definitely be recommending this place to my friends and others!

Tanks were very clean and all the fish looked super healthy, only giving 4 stars cause I walked around for about 45 minutes looking for something and not a single worker asked me if I needed anything

I can't say enough good things about this place!! Their knowledge is abundant and they are so willing share to ensure your fish are healthy and happy. The selection of fish, plants and supplies and great. It's also a great place to go and see some really great/fun species of fish. They will also refill your empty containers for food and such to help reduce plastic consumption.

I like shopping at Aqualand, they have a great selection and their tanks are well-maintained. However the employees are very uneducated on what fish goes with each other. I bought two cichlids, to go with a red parrot cichlid and a red albino catfish, (which both get along) I bought two ciclid from a tank that had red parrot cichlids in it, when I put the two cichlids I bought from them in my tank, all they did was pick on my fish I had in there. You think they would get along since the two cichlids I bought from them came from a tank that had red parrots cichlids in it, but no. I have ended up flushing both of them since they picked on my catfish and my red parrot cichlid. I will never buy cichlids from here again. Only other fish.

Amazing selection of fish and a great supply of live plants as well. I made the mistake of buying some plants for the tank online from a highly reputable vendor. And was disappointed when the plants arrived and they were absolutely miniscule for the price I paid for them. Took a trip to Aqualand and got some awesome healthy and so far snail free Java Ferns and Anubias all for a fair price. The plants were decently sized too! The owner was super helpful and answered all of my questions patiently and even helped me pick out some rocks for aquascaping. Will definitely be coming back for many of my future plant, aquascaping and stocking needs.

Friendly and knowledgeable staff, huge selection of aquarium products, and more fish than I thought could for into that little building! They were more than happy to help my 6 year old daughter get set up with her simple Betta tank and a Mystery Snail, spending almost a half hour talking with us about water quality, food, tank cleaning, and fish selection for what was a minimal sale for them. Can't say how much I appreciate the great customer service!

Wow! The selection here is just superb. The fish seem to be in great health. This place has probably 10 times the fish as the average PetSmart or Petco, but it may have been a fluke but I didn't spot a single dead fish! Seeing the Mata Mata turtle was a treat for me and my girls.

Don't go here for saltwater. I received a gift certificate and only keep a saltwater tank. I had to really scrounge to find anything remotely useful. No fish, no coral, no saltwater specific foods, no chemicals, etc, only a couple pieces of dry rock. If you're after freshwater, this seems like a paradise, but I don't know anything about that side.

We generally have pretty good luck with getting fish from here. The older staff can be very helpful and nice to to talk to. My only complaint (as a turtle owner) is that they do not provide proper lighting and basking areas for their turtles. Yes turtles are hardy and will live long without it, but they need UVB and heat lamps in order to be healthy. I would really like to see them add this for the turtles sake, and to set a proper example to other people who may be looking at getting a turtle themselves.

I love going in here and seeing all the special varieties of fish and the beautiful tanks. You can really tell he cares deeply for his business and the fish as well. Large place with a lot of cool and amazing fish. They don't have any salt water fish yet but they said they're in the process of getting some tanks set up but there's no ETA on when they'll be up and running. The guys working there were nice & seemed pretty knowledgeable. Great place though, I'll definitely go back!

Highly recommended for fish, shop somewhere else for supplies. I used to love this place and used it as my sole fish supplies store. Helpful and friendly staff, but the best aspect is their broad selection of fish: saltwater and freshwater. Three out of five solely because they will upcharge if you don't check the price on an item before checking out. More than that, their supplies are about 1.5 times more expensive than other local fish stores.

I absolutely love the owners of this place. I’ve gotten my fish here about 5 times now and every time he seems to actually love his animals and care. I never got the same level of care from basic pet store employees like those at Petco. He even told me what food they’d been taking and asked if the tank had been run for the proper amount of time before adding fish. I love to see it when people actually care for their animals.

Fish keeper paradise. Fresh, brackish and salt water fish. Nice collection of corals for sale, last time we were in they had discus. And everything in between. We've also purchased moss and freshwater plants from here. Good selection. They even have a variety of driftwood and fish tanks. Seriously, this place has it all. I stopped in to ask questions about my current tank. I've had fish before but it was a while ago. The guy who helped me, I believe his name was Dave, but I'm not sure, was very knowledgeable. He asked me so many questions about my tank and gave me a lot of helpful advice. He truly wanted to help, and not just sell me something. He gave me many different options to create a good tank and proceeded to have me choose what I thought was the best option. I would strongly recommend them to anyone who is looking into starting a tank, or needs advice on how to begin to move in a better direction for a happier/healthier aquarium. I also want to note that their establishment is amazing! the outside is decorated in different aquarium futures. Inside are some of the most amazing aquariums, and selections of fish you will find! I recommend at least checking it out! Thank you for all of your hard work guys! Keep it up!

First time visit: Everyone was super helpful and knowledgeable! We were able to comfortably browse and only after making our initial lap did anyone ask us if we had any questions. The fish were healthy and happy. I didn't see stress behavior. Lots to choose from. The largest variety of aquarium plants I've seen. Plan to spend an hour or more if you really want to see all the fish. There were some incredible electric blue cichlids. If you're looking for QUALITY foods come here. They also carry a nice selection of the SeaChem biological support products. I also saw canister filter supplies for a number of brands. Noticed a lot of repeat customers, and other newbies too. I know one thing for sure - when we come to the cities I'm going to make time to stop here again. Thanks Aqualand for a really nice experience.

This is my favorite aquarium store, I’ve had only good experiences here. Their staff are so helpful and informative, never condescending, and I feel like they truly care about the wellbeing of my tank. They have an amazing selection of plants that are also pretty well priced. Plus they’ll analyze a sample of your tanks water for free, and are always so nice and helpful about any questions regarding improving or maintaining the environment of your aquarium. Aaaand they have the oldest mata mata turtle in North America. Her name is Linda and she always looks so happy and well cared for. Edit** The younger employees need more training but the more senior employees are well informed.

I was introduced to this store by my wife who keeps a small tank at her job. I have recently started keeping fish after a ten year break and what I used to find at other LFS’ I’ve been in was a group of people who were very passionate, but also, many times, very judgmental. I am by no means an expert or as knowledgeable as a person who does this for a living, but I do know that a-lot of amateur fish keepers have learned through trial and error and developed a certain expertise. The employees here did not come off as, I know everything and you know nothing, they offered great suggestions and products that could help me as well as suggesting fish, I love Barbs and the assortment of new ones(new to me at least) is amazing! I am looking forward to getting back to the four or five tanks I used to have and these folks will be receiving my business, keep up the great work!

Very knowledgeable staff and so many new and super cheap used aquariums for sale. Tons of freshwater fish and even some saltwater fish for sale as well. I will be coming back in a few weeks to buy some fish. The reason it will be a few weeks is because staff told me you have to let a new aquarium sit for 3 to 4 weeks to let the ecosystem of positive microorganisms to build up before you introduce fish. I had no idea! They could have just sold me fish and then sold me more fish when they died, but no, they helped me understand the hobby better and help me to be successful. That really showed me their honesty and won me over. Fair warning this is a fish store not a pet store so you won't find dog food, bird stuff, hamsters, ect.; but you will find the best selection of everything fish you can find in the Twin Cities.

I saw some of the biggest tiger barbs and platys there! Really wish I had a tank set up for the tiger barbs. Wish I would have tooken pics of them. Super knowledgable, super helpful. I had purchased a tank from here a while back. I needed to replace the filter, but didn't know what kind I needed. I mentioned the brand of tank, and showed the cashier the approximate size of the tank with my hands, and he knew right off the bat what kind of filter I needed. They also know how to help new fish owners, and are good at providing guidance for fish care. Perfect place to go for n00bs and experts alike.

I was looking for an alternative to Petco and the like and saw Aqualand and thought I would check it out. What a fantastic store. I went in and had all of my questions answered by David. He was one of the best people I have dealt with in a long time in regards to customer service. David helped me with all my questions since I am pretty new to fish keeping. He showed me what live plants would work best to start off and was very knowledgeable once I explained my set up. He also told me to wait until my aquarium is more set up before moving into more sensitive fish. He didn't try to sell me fish just to make the sale. He seemed to genuinely care that my fish would thrive. Bottom line is I will absolutely shop there again.

Dont let the dark depressing atmosphere turn you away, this place is great. They have knowledgable staff that will take their time to help you through any decisions or trouble shooting you may have for your tank. The salt water selection may leave a bit to be desired but they have an expansive selection of fresh water fish. Kid friendly with pellets and such to feed their koi and turtle ponds.

I really liked the customer service, they were quick to greet me and help as much as they can with salt water fish. Although, they have very few salt water fish. Their saltwater livestock is only about 10% of space and not well kept. If their saltwater tanks were kept as well as their freshwater they may be better. One of the owners said they were trying to expand the marine area but only to will show.

I love this place and I also drive 45 minutes to get there. I like to support local because if we don’t they and their knowledge will leave with them. When I read the reviews I am surprised on how many complaine about the price being higher then what they expect. Please note it is located in Minneapolis ($15.00 min wage) and you are also paying for knowledge. How would you expect a small business to stay in business when the city says what you have to pay for a child to clean a fish tank? I will support this place and pay their prices. I understand.

Came here with my roommate to help her purchase some new pet fish and had my expectations blown away. There are so many fish varieties here as well as tank decor and live plants, and the staff were very helpful and professional. My only concern was for the happiness of Linda, their 45+ year old South American Mata Mata Turtle, whom I had at first mistaken for a huge rock, who sits in an empty tank.

I’ve loved this place since I started in the hobby over twenty years ago than took a break. Big mistake! Takes some money’s to get started again but John was a big help in suggesting used items. This place is amazing! They've got small fish, big fish, salt water fish, fresh water fish. Lots of aquarium decor stuff. The staff war very friendly and helpful to us, even when they didn't have what we needed they still did they're best to try and help us in other ways. Very family friendly! The place is well organized and everything is clearly labeled. They've got a section where is only empty tanks for sale! They for Koy fish by the front door that you can feed! The parking lot is very tiny and can onky fit about 5 cars but there is free street parking on both sides of the street. It can be a busy street as well so be on the look out for cars if you've got little ones.

Great customer service, great selection. They even have a feeding pond to keep the kids entertained while you shop. They have almost no saltwater fish, but that isn't what I was there for. For freshwater fish though they have basically everything you need and then some.

I called Aqualand on a Sunday night about 5 minutes before they were scheduled to close to see if they would be able to help me with a situation I was having with my tank.
