I have been shopping here on and off for the past 20+ years, even more so in the last few, have purchased RC trucks, cars, mini crawlers, crawler kits, planes, electronics, paint and more, they are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, just make sure you tell them your experience level, especially if you are a beginner, so you can understand and learn, or it all might go over your head. They recently took care of a problem I experienced with a purchase that ended up in a larger purchase, so thanks to the staff and management.

Very big store full of lots of different hobby items. Die cast, models of just about everything-Gundams, planes, trains and automobiles! R/C stuff and slot cars. Staff were friendly and the prices are good.

As Hobby Shops die off around the Country, Riders seems to have found the way to succeed. Knowledgeable staff, great selection of a wide variety of products, open hours that are realistic for the customer and not just convenient for the owner and a clean, well lit and organized store all contribute to their longevity. Prices are a little on the "high end" of normal for some things but I suppose you get what you pay for with the rest of the package. Quite highly recommended!!

An Absolutely Amazing hobby shop! They had everything I needed, and their weekend hours were the real reason I visited. I even had them replace the parts I bought for my RC Truggy, because I forgot my tool kit at home. They didn't hesitate to help me out. There just aren't that many Hobby Stores left, and Rider's is great. I've been shopping here for over 30 years. The staff is knowledgeable and many are modelers that work here part time, mostly for fun. I go for the trains, but they also have a large RC department and board game department.

It's a big toy store for men. Although they had a good selection of puzzles and paint by numbers, But I needed to use a bathroom, and I was denied; it's not open to the public, and nowhere other places within walking distance. So I had to leave.

Staff is always very helpful. They have a wide selection of basically everything. Board games, slot cars, models and tons of RCs and loads of trains. Only downside is the pricing can be a bit exspensive my go to spot for all rc stuff

They have an incredible inventory! They have lots of RC car, model car, and trains inventory, but they also have a great selection of puzzles and board games. Their prices are fair and affordable. The staff are very knowledgeable of the products that they offer, and their customer service is amazing! I bought a display case for 1/18 scale and when I got it home, I discovered that the clear case was cracked. I called them up about it and they said I could just bring it in and exchange for a new one. When I'm in the area, Rider's Hobby Shop is now my go to place for model car and RC car needs.

These guys are the best! I came in on the fence of which r/c truck I wanted and these guys gave me their true opinion instead of trying to sell me the most expensive one they could. They answered all my questions and even offered to let me bring them truck in and they would install the upgrades for free if I paid for the parts. They never try to oversell me every time I'm here and their selection and prices are great! I refuse to go anywhere else and highly recommend these guys for anyone looking for information and an honest staff who just wants to help and send you home with a smile.

This store is fantastic and the people who work there are amazing! I came in looking for a couple last minute gifts for my 6 year old son and he's particularly obsessed with the titanic. The store associate looked all over for me without luck and then the manager selflessly sold me HIS model he was saving for himself. They made my son's Christmas!!! Even if you are not interested in the main things they offer (RC car stuff, trains, planes, model cars, etc) they've got a whole bunch of other cool stuff too! They have warhammer stuff for really good prices, and a great variety of d&d models and citadel paints. The staff is really helpful and knowledgeable on all of that stuff.

Granted they have parts for everything they sell but they don't carry extra parts like wiring extensions for lighting kits. Overall a great hobby store with very competitive pricing on everything. They sell modeling kits, DCC trains, rc planes, rc helicopters, rc boats, and obviously rc cars. They also sell puzzles and model paints and a myriad of all sorts of really cool stuff you may not have known exists.

Ryder's hobby has a great selection of RC covers/hoods as well as tires and various parts.... and very helpful seasoned associates who are not only very knowledgeable yet willing to assist you through the thought process. We have had different associates and all have been very willing to help us. They can direct you to the best option so you are not trying to cut corners and waste money. They can direct you to other resources as well if they come up short.

Unreservedly the best hobby shop in the Grand Rapids area. Lots of cars and trains and stuff, but for miniatures (my personal interests) a fantastic selection. Really great Reaper models (especially the larger ones) and tons of GW if you're into that as well. Small selection of Wizkids and others too. Huge rack of Vallejo and Citadel paints. Staff very knowledgeable and friendly. I could spend hours here.

I visited the store to learn more about HO trains. They provided a demo on the latest technology along with them answering many questions I brought with me as I start The process of building a train set. As I walk to the store I believe that it will be my one shop for everything needed to make a train set a reality except plywood. Be warned that the cost of an ho train engine increased a lot in 40 years but there is a reason, ask for the demo. I'm glad I did I almost walked out. They have several other hobbies they're like RC cars and planes and I'm guessing many other things however I was only intrested in trains.

I've been going to riders for years. Extremely helpful people and lots of things to look at. I purchased a cheaper airbrush from another store and someone there took the time to show me how to use it. That kind of help led to my buying another brush from them along with supplies. Minus one star because they used to carry a game I enjoyed and they no longer carry it. Didn't seem interested in doing so in the future. To be fair, it is quite niche, but that should be what friendly local hobby shops are about. Partly at least.

This place it's like the fulfillment of all of the things you wanted to do as a kid but were told you'd get tired of it to quickly. Your parents were right about that, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't pick up a slot car set, a few kites, and some model airplanes. The stuff they have is beyond fun, and if you're a dad that's looking to encourage your kids to explore STEM, you really can't go wrong. And while you can drop some dollars here, you don't have to. The staff will try to steer you toward the entry level options where it makes sense. Everyone I've spoken to in this store is passionate about their hobby and willing to go the extra mile to get you started on the right path.

I will start off by saying Rider's is probably the furthest hobby shop from my home, but I will always go out of my way to go there then some of the of the other hobby shop in Grand Rapids. There selection is much bigger then other shops and if your like me and build models they have just about anything you can ask for. Staff is always helpful and personable. I'll have to say, my experience here has gotten worse and worse. And I'm basically giving 2 reviews here for the guys on each side of the store. The guys in here work there. And literally that's it. They show no appreciation for their work and basically want nothing to do with their customers. They were rude, and were just there to sell items. I went in there with an old electric plane I had purchased at an auction. It needed some work so I brought it in to get there opinion and some help in buying new parts and what not. I myself before I went there had the plane running and all the servos running. I just wanted to get his opinion on it and if I should get some parts for it. I've only been flying for 4 years or so so I know I little but there's plenty I can still learn. But they treat you like you know nothing and shouldn't even be in the store. The guy I had talked to basically had told me I shouldn't have purchased the plane. I mean isn't that the point of being a hobbyist? To build, buy, fly, work on things, tinker stuff like that? He wanted nothing to do with me. I've stood back and watched them "deal" with other customers in the same fashion. Now on the other hand the guys on the other side of the store were extremely helpful and friendly. The guy was working on something and he had dropped everything he was doing to give me a 5 minute solder lesson. Because again I could solder but could still learn a lot. And I did. I now know how to solder PROPERLY and thanks to the gentlemen that took time out of his day to teach a stranger. And I greatly appreciated it. SO I GIVE THE R/C GUYS ON ONE SOME OF THE STORE 1 STAR and that's just because they knew how to sell items. AND I GIVE 5 STARS TO THE ELECTRONICS AND MODEL GUYS ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE STORE. Thanks guys!

I was a loyal customer of Ryder's Hobby Shop when I was a little kid and took part in their RC races in the parking lot. I remember their expertise and encouragement, and wide selection of replacement and upgrade parts for my RC car, which I spent all my money on, as I was not interested in girls yet. Now I'm 30, and I started to get into quad copter flying a little bit with some friends. I can say that they are providing the same level of service as always, if not better and the store is now twice as big! This would get them at least 4 stars, but they get 5, because the first product I purchased did not perform well, through no fault of Ryder's. They handed me a new one, as a demonstration of how they stand behind their products. Then the same thing happened with the second, and they allowed me to choose a different quad copter off the shelf with their recommendation. I could not be happier with this experience, and I really recommend giving Ryder's your loyal business, as they will take care of you without exception.

This is the best place in the area for Table Top Gaming resources. I've gone to several different hobby and comic/Gaming shops around GR and they often have NOTHING for table top gaming. Rider's has the best selection of rpg books, miniatures, and dice sets that I've seen so far. The guys here have helped me multiple times deciding on what the best paint is to use for my mini's and also different techniques. This is a really great place for anyone looking for D&D or Pathfinder items.

Great place, been coming here since I was a kid,lot of starship models hanging from the ceiling,only gripe is the kitbashed sovereign class model (star trek Enterprise-e), it's badly done compared to the ton of other models.
