The great place to go for those special gifts. The second you walk in you see the vast selection and you are greeted by friendly and happy people. It really sets the tone and starts you off on an adventure. The top brands, latest gadgets and specialty items under one roof covering two floors. We found the staff to be very knowledgeable and helpful.

Tha place gives an old time general store feel with outdoor wear and shoes. They do have dresses, blouses, men's wear as well. You can also an assortment of jewelry for women. They greet you and will engage in a conversation when not busy.

Mast General Store is the best. This place is huge with a plethora of items from candy, dishes, clothing, hba, candles, etc etc etc. Visiting the area and needed to replenish my Blenheim hot ginger ale. Mast General Store had it in stock. Bought 2 cases. Didn't stop to shop anything else but will make it a delibrate destination for the future. The candy barrels are awesome. Make sure you check out the downstairs. 👍 Easy to find

Mast General Store is a delightful shopping experience every time I go! They have curated thoughtful and quality products in a wide array of categories. Mast is one of my few go-to places for gifts. There is something for everyone! The candy barrel and toy section is lots of fun and a bit of nostalgia. The store is always well-organized and tidy, and the staff is friendly and helpful.

Very cute general store. Employee's greeted me as I walked through the door. The store has 2 floors and a wide selection of things to buy. Good selection of souvenirs I love the candy section. They have barrels you can pick a few pieces or load up your own barrel. If you like ginger, buy some ginger candy it's amazing.

Cool store to putz in if you have time to kill in downtown. Every little trinket under the sun you could think of from candy to spatulas to hammocks to coolers to cookbooks to clothing. Easy to spend an hour browsing all the stuff inside.

I cant believe all these yrs living in the Columbia area, I finally went into the Mast General Store! Conveniently located down town on Main St, good luck with parking, its a hit or miss at times. But I do love hanging out DT and discovering new shops and places to eat, Columbia has a small time charm. The store is clean, packed and neatly organized, they have everything that you can think of, literally...Take your time and stroll, this isn't a store to rush thru, they have a upstairs and downstairs. You will miss something if your in a hurry! I actually found some cute sun dresses and ole timey candy in the back area! Kinda expensive but they do have sales all the time, so visit often as you can. Yes, this will be a store that I visit often thru the yrs. Customer service is excellent!

Omg,, LOVED this quant little place, so warm and cozy, inviting to say the least!! I could spend hours upon hours in this store!! Smells old, the floors crack when you walk, and alot of the stuff was on sale for a super low price! In fact, I bought my first robe from here, couldn't resist myself, it was on sale and it was pink and fuzzy, and soft, while checking out, the girl behind the counter sid that I would be living in my new robe, I said nah, but that's exactly what I've been doing, lol, living in my new robe! Please give this store a try, they have everything under the stars, you name it, they probably have it!!

One of the coolest store I’ve ever been in —I just loved it. Unbelievable variety of high quality outdoor gear, all top brands and fantastic selection. Amazing look and feel to the store, which is something like 130 years old. Still intact squeaky floors and banisters, old memorabilia everywhere —very cool vibe. Extremely friendly, helpful and polite staff. Can’t wait to go back.

This was more than a General store. It had lots of clothing, outdoor wear, shoes, souvenirs, pottery, books, and then you come to the classic general store candy barrels, baking mixes, syrups, jams, jellies, chips, nuts, etc. This is certainly a must stop for a visitor and a check in for a local.

This location is two stories, and the store was very clean during our visit. The first floor that you enter from the street had a lot of fun things to look at (home decor, gifts, old candies, toys, etc). The bottom floor is for those who are more into the outdoors (knives, high end outerwear, and camp gear.)

Love it! The old fashioned candy and games are the best. I also found a Burt's Bees toner I'd been looking for. Alas, the cashier was confused when I gave her a $20 and a $1 for a $10.71 charge. She tried to give me back the $1. The new math defies logic.

If you're visiting Columbia, you should go to the Mast General Store. I find it hard to describe. Two floors of merchandise that you probably don't need but you will want to purchase.

We just found this place and..... WOW. We'd walked past it numerous times because the outside does not reflect the inside at all. Endless high-end outdoor clothing, a huge candy/toy area, great kitchen and camping section, shoes and more clothes down stairs... We already decided it's going to be our One-Shop-Stop for Christmas this year. One more observation. You would think the shoes here would be a little more expensive. That is incorrect. I like a particular pair of Merrell hiking shoes and my mother wears Birkenstocks both of us found this store to be a good $30-$40 less than what we buy online.

The Columbia, SC location is the only Mast store I have visited. The employees are always more than helpful. They make sure that you know that they are there to help, but stay far enough away that they do not actually bug you. The clothing options are great. If you're in the mood for candy...this is the place to go for candy! Now that we are starting hiking more, I have a feeling that we will be back for hiking supplies. Keep up the fine work.

This place is a bit of a tourist trap but you can get a lot of things here. It is chocked full of very cool things that means very good gifts for people. They got everything from kitchen gadgets to rare candies. Yes the place is large and it is a chain but I really have never had a bad experience going to one of these places

I was looking for a store with a good selection of hiking supplies. I live an hour away and had never heard of General Mast. Today, I was in town for another appointment and decided to visit. WOW! I was greeted as soon as I walked in and given a quick tutorial on the layout of the store. Then, I was directed downstairs to the bottom floor which is entirely devoted to quality, highly rated outdoor gear. Once again, I was immediately greeted by Ashlin. She was amazing. She was so patient and detailed helping me select everything from boots to socks! She really knew the products well. I price checked against Amazon while there. I paid only $8 more for boots (well worth the expertise and convenience) and the other items were priced the same as Amazon. I was so absorbed, two hours literally flew by and I didn't even get to check out to first floor! Can't wait to go back!

Great place to shop and to work! I’ve always really liked shopping at the Mast General Store because they have a lot of unique and cool stuff. I will also forever appreciate them for my brief time working there. I was a teacher’s aide and needed a summer job. A lot of places turned me away despite ten years of retail experience, but Mast was happy to hire me, even knowing it was temporary. It is a very positive and friendly work environment, just like my shopping experiences always had been. The popcorn is great and (speaking as both a customer and former employee) they’ll pop a fresh batch whenever. Try the birch beer or the Blenheim’s ginger ale.

Lots of mast general themed foods like jams and sauces. Lots of clothes that are locally themed or generally southern themed! Definitely a good place to go for locals or tourists. We went there because of a promotion they were running. I like Mast a lot, but parking is usually difficult to find. End of summer prices led me to purchase a pair of shorts and a polo. Mast is a great general store. Great place for outdoor products and wear. I suggest you look into the tailgate style rockers.

I had some shoes that were messed up and they let me bring them back for a full refund without a receipt(they we're able to bring up the transaction in their computer). I'm a little overdue on this review because I've visited it a few times over the past few years. I think that alot people just don't know how much is offered in this store that is located in the downtown of Columbia SC community. It's conveniently located on main street in Columbia and there is garage and street parking nearby. I usually visit this store whenever I'm visiting other business on Main street or on Saturdays while I might be visiting the Soda City Market. This store is always clean and well maintained by the very professional staff. Currently the store is operating on limited capacity and within the COVID-19 pandemic precautions. All the staff and customers must wear face masks. The store is 2 floors and has pretty much anything you might need for any outdoor adventures. I'm positive that i will be back in near future and I'll recommend them for friends and family members.

I absolutely love this store. It follows a niche that is sorely underrepresented in the common market, and that's a tradition general store. The classical wood boards on the floor complement the hallmark antiquated style. The store features a wide variety of departments, with a massive candle isle, locally made crafts such as leather bound notebooks (I love mine!), Clothes from popular brands, and an extensive supply of camping supplies from ultralight packing or simple nalgene bottles.

Super adorable place! It's like a down home kinnucans, on steroids. I loved the local products found upstairs and the candy filling stations. There was an apple cider sample lady who was super sweet. They have all sorts of high end outdoor clothing brands with wealths to choose from. They sold clothes, kitchen ware, toiletries, food, toys, shoes, etc. This place was like Mary popping bag, it just kept going.

I had a blast!! Remembering all of the candies that I used to eat as a kid. Razzles, Mary Jane's, Boston baked beans, candy cigarettes, bazooka gum, swedish fish,etc... I'm still smiling!! Now for the grown up stuff, ugh,lol. I found some great kitchen gadgets ( silicone cast iron pan handle covers, jelly making bags 40% off, pie crust covers). I really enjoyed looking at their extensive array of canned products ( dilly beans, chow chow, strawberry rhubarb jelly,etc) for sale. They also offered a great selection of apparel currently 40-50% off. I saw the cutest pink Yeti cooler and tons of good wholesome toys and games for children. Truly did my heart good to flashback the good ole days and fun times. They even had handmade soaps, salves, and other hard to find items, like oil lanterns and replacement wicks.Theyo gave a military discount which was 15% off the most expensive item that is not on sale. It was well worth the hour drive from Fort Mill. I'll definitely come back to explore and find new treasures again. Such a great store and with pleasant customer service like Darlene gave us at check out, what more could you want.

Love this place! Between personal trips and taking out-of-towners here, I visit this store often. Most recently, I was meeting with my best friend who now lives in Massachusetts. We agreed to bring each other a basket of local goodies. I knew Mast was my go-to place: Adluh grits, Charleston teas and cookies, local honey and jams, locally crafted soaps, etc. They also give a military discount ! I think this store is really cool, from the moment you walk in and you realize that their floors are probably older than you are yeah, maybe even your parents, you get the feeling of being in an old timey store. Once you get used to the fact that walking around sounds the same as walking through an 1800s Plantation home from the hardwood floors creaking beneath your soles, you can begin to look at what store has for sale. I was pleased to find all of the outdoor goods that they carry, from Yeti to Patagonia you can pretty much find it here. Beyond that you can find cooking Goods, hats, purses, scarves, cast iron pans, even candy and toys. I'm a little disappointed in their bulk candy prices, they're absurdly expensive. Why buy in bulk when buying somewhere else is cheaper? They had some cool slingshots, hand made from wood and I couldn't help but get one.
